Sammy Guevara vs. Dustin Rhodes set for AEW Dynamite

A new match has been added for this Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite.

AEW announced on their social media today that The Inner Circle’s Sammy Guevara will take on Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes has been feuding with the group ever since Jake Hager slammed Rhodes’ hand into a car door on an episode of Dynamite back in October that, in storyline, put him on the shelf for a number of weeks.

Four other matches have already been announced for this Wednesday’s show: Cody Rhodes vs. Darby Allin, Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks vs. Lucha Bros. & Pac, Riho vs. Nyla Rose vs. Britt Baker vs. Hikaru Shida in a fatal four way match for the AEW women’s title and Jon Moxley vs. Trent.

MJF is also expected to announce stipulations for an upcoming match against Cody Rhodes. Chris Jericho will be looking for an answer from Moxley after Jericho offered Moxley a spot in the Inner Circle.

This week’s Dynamite, which is being labeled a Homecoming edition of the show, will take place at Daly’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Cody & Dustin Rhodes vs. Lucha Bros set for January 8 AEW Dynamite

A first-time ever match between two teams of siblings is set for the second AEW Dynamite of 2020.

AEW announced this afternoon that Cody & Dustin Rhodes will team up against The Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) on the January 8 episode of Dynamite. This is the first match announced for the show.

Cody and Dustin have teamed together twice in AEW thus far. They lost to The Young Bucks in the main event of Fight for the Fallen in July. On week three of AEW Dark, Cody, Dustin & The Young Bucks defeated Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) & Strong Hearts (CIMA & T-Hawk).

Pentagon & Fenix defeated Kenny Omega & Hangman Page on Dynamite last week. Page accidentally hit Omega with a Buckshot Lariat before the finish.

Dynamite is off this week due to Wednesday being Christmas. The show returns with a live episode at Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida on New Year’s Day.

The January 8 episode of Dynamite is taking place at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi. It’s being called the anniversary edition of the show, with it being held on the one-year anniversary of AEW’s Double or Nothing rally.

AEW Dynamite live results: Young Bucks & Dustin vs. Inner Circle

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois.

Dustin Rhodes and The Young Bucks will take on Santana, Ortiz & Sammy Guevara in trios action following their in-ring confrontation on last week’s show. These three members of the Inner Circle enter the contest with a 1-0 record in trios matches, The Bucks each carry 2-1 trios records, while Rhodes will wrestle in his first AEW six-man.

Jon Moxley (3-0-1 singles record) will face Joey Janela (1-3 singles) in singles competition. Moxley holds a victory over Janela in an unsanctioned match which took place at Fyter Fest in June.

Trent (1-1 singles) will take on Fenix (1-0 singles) in singles action after Trent and partner Chuck Taylor defeated Fenix and Pentagon Jr. in a tag match last week.

In the women’s division, Kris Statlander will take on Hikaru Shida. Shida is currently ranked as the top challenger to AEW Women’s World Champion Riho.

Rounding out the card is Christopher Daniels vs. Pentagon. Both men enter the contest with 0-1 records in singles matches.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

DUSTIN RHODES & THE YOUNG BUCKS DEFEATED SANTANA, ORTIZ & SAMMY GUEVARA

The Bucks and Dustin ran wild at the outset. All three hit a triple superkick. Matt hit a high cross off the post to the floor onto all three opposing team members. Nick hit a corkscrew dive while Dustin hit a simultaneous flip dive off the apron.

Matt tried a double northern lights suplex sequence and got cut off. Matt blocked a delayed vertical suplex from Guevara and made a  hot tag to Dustin. Dustin hit three powerslams and a crossbody, then hit Santana with a destroyer for a near fall.

Dustin got cut off after a shot with the loaded sock from Proud and Powerful. Guevara hit a 630 senton for a near fall. Guevara hit a double stomp off the top onto Matt for a near fall.

Guevara grabbed his phone and started live streaming. He jumped off the top into a double superkick. Nick hit a missile dropkick into a double piledriver combo and Matt pinned Guevara.

A fun opener. There are always audio issues on Dynamite, but even by their standards, there were significant technical difficulties during this match.

**********

REY FENIX DEFEATED TRENT

A good match, lots of good action, but not much heat for this. Kind of the story of Trent’s career in a nutshell.

I think there’s far more upside in the Lucha Bros than in the Best Friends at this stage of the game. I hope last week’s Best Friends win was an aberration.

Fenix hit a dropkick. He teased a muscle buster, but Trent blocked. Trent teased a Dudebuster, but Fenix blocked. Fenix missed a 619, but hit one to Trent’s legs on the second attempt. Fenix grabbed the right arm and worked it over as the show went to its first commercial break.

During the break, Fenix used his springboard rope-walk spot, and hit a drive-by dropkick which led to a near fall.

After the ad break, Fenix tried a tornillo. Trent blocked with a dropkick, then hit a half-and-half suplex. They brawled to the floor. Fenix sent Trent into the barricade. Trent came back with a spear on the floor.

Back in the ring, Trent hit a tornado DDT for a two count. Trent tried a monkey flip. Fenix blocked and hit a powerbomb for a two count. Fenix hooked Trent’s legs in the ropes. Fenix ran the top rope connected with a kick. Trent answered with a lariat.

They traded chops on the apron. Fenix hit a springboard double stomp to the floor. Fenix then tried a springboard attack off the top. Trent got his knees up, then hit a stuff piledriver for a two count.

Fenix hit a pop-up cutter, a rolling kick, then connected with a muscle buster and got the pin.

Trent and Fenix continued fighting after the bell as the show went to commercial break. The announcers never called attention to this. If you’re going to do stuff during commercials, it has to count.

**********

CODY SPEAKS

Cody entered for a promo. There was a lot of good stuff here but it was also disjointed.

Cody mentioned the attack by Butcher, Blade and Bunny last week. He mentioned his wife cutting the hair of people in the women’s division. He said what’s really on his mind is MJF.He said he saw something in MJF when no one else did. He made a snide reference to MJF botching the Cross Rhodes and how it’s now being botched on two channels, a shot at WWE. He said he knew MJF was a bad guy, but he was HIS bad guy.

He said MJF says he’ll never fight him. Cody proceeded to offer his truck, his watch, his shoes, and more than $50,000 to MJF for a match. Cody told him to name his price.

**********

Alex Marvez was backstage with Joey Janela. Marvez wanted to know why Janela wanted to face Moxley again. Janela said this time if Moxley wants to beat him, he’ll have to kill him. Moxley walked in, said “Kids,” then walked off.

**********

Another Dark Order hype video was shown. This was good.

**********

Nyla Rose entered for a match with Leva Bates. During her entrance, they showed a video of Rose attacking Shanna at a pre-show meet and greet.

NYLA ROSE DEFEATED LEVA BATES

Rose won with the Beast Bomb in a quick squash. The other librarian Peter Avalon tried to interfere, but Rose hit both with a double chokeslam.

Shanna ran down after the match and got powerslammed for her trouble.

During a commercial break, Rose set up a table in the ring, then powerbombed referee Rick Knox and Shanna through the table. Britt Baker was shown at ringside, distraught. The announcers referred to her as Adam Cole’s girlfriend. The “Inside Baseball” stuff is counter-productive. Again, the announcers did not address the angle during the break on the TV broadcast.

**********

LEXICON OF LE CHAMPION

Jericho entered for a promo. He ran down Champaign. He said AEW is forcing him to wrestle one more time this year on December 18.

Jericho introduced a list of people he would not face. The crowd popped at the mention of the list, so Jericho told them to get out of 2016. He introduced the Lexicon of Le Champion, a list of people he would not agree to face. Moxley was on the list several times.

Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy and Marko Stunt entered. Luchasaurus did some dinosaur humor. Jericho said children and dinosaurs were next on his list, in reference to Stunt and Luchasaurus.

Jungle Boy stepped forward. Jericho said he knows everyone is pulling for the son of Hollywood royalty, everyone loves the Jungle Boy. Jericho said that’s not the case. Jericho said Jungle Boy is “a piece of shit” who couldn’t last ten minutes with him.

Jungle Boy said he knows he can last ten minutes with Jericho and said he’s going to kick Jericho’s ass. Jungle Boy slapped Jericho. Jericho, Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, Jake Hager and Marko Stunt had a pull-apart.

**********

KRIS STATLANDER DEFEATED HIKARU SHIDA

Statlander did a bunch of cartwheels. Shida responded with a chop. They traded heavy chops. Shida tried her springboard knee attack off a chair on the floor, but Statlander caught her coming in, tossed her inside, then proceeded to work Shida over. The bulk of this happened during a commercial.

Shida hit an enziguri on the apron, then connected with a running knee off the apron to the floor. Shida hit a missile dropkick for a near fall.

Cody and QT Marshall vs. The Butcher and The Blade was randomly announced in the middle of this match.

Statlander rolled to the apron. Shida superplexed her back inside for a two count. Shida tried a running knee, but Statlander blocked. They traded enziguris. Statlander hit an electric chair drop, then a scissors kick for a near fall.

Shida picked up two quick near falls off a cradle and a knee strike. Statlander hit a falcon arrow for a two count. Statlander hit a package tombstone and pinned Shida for the upset. This was a good match.

**********

After the bell, Brandi Rhodes and Awesome Kong entered. Brandi introduced herself and Kong as the Nightmare Collective, an extension of the Nightmare Family.

Brandi told Statlander to join her collective and they’ll take care of her and protect her. Statlander hesitated. A plant from the crowd demanded to pledge to the collective. She climbed over the rail and had her head shaved DURING A COMMERCIAL BREAK, the theme of this show so far.

**********

PENTAGON JR. DEFEATED CHRISTOPHER DANIELS

Pentagon used a variety of kicks and enziguris to establish control in the early-going. There was another lengthy commercial brea during this match.

They fought to the ramp. Pentagon teased a destroyer on the ramp, but Daniels blocked it. Daniels tried for a springboard facebuster but slipped on the ropes. They rolled back inside where Daniels made a comeback. Daniels hit a right hand and an Angel’s Wings for a near fall.

The finish saw Fenix run down with Daniels’ mic stand. Both Daniels and Pentagon teased using it as a weapon, but ultimately neither did. Fenix took the referee, Pentagon hit a low blow, then used a package piledriver on Daniels for the pin.

This had its moments, but has to be considered an in-ring disappointment given the talent of both guys.

**********

A Butcher/Blade/Bunny video package played. Allie said that they’re sick of seeing Cody’s face everywhere and they’re in his house to cut the head off the snake.

**********

JON MOXLEY DEFEATED JOEY JANELA

They began with some actual wrestling holds. Moxley used a waistlock takedown. Janela hit a double sledge off the top to the ramp. Moxely used a surfboard, then an STF. They brawled to the floor during the show’s last ad break.

Back inside, Moxley hit an x-plex for a two count. Moxley teased a Paradigm Shift on the ramp. Janela blocked, then hit a tornado DDT on the ramp. Janela hit a tope suicida.

Moxley teased a Paradigm Shift off the second rope, but Janela countered into a crucifix bomb. They traded strikes and lariats. Janela suplexed Moxley into the bottom turnbuckle.

Moxley rolled outside. Janela hit a senton off the post to the floor, which the cameras missed. Janela tossed Moxley inside and hit a top rope elbow for a two count.

Moxley responded with a top rope Paradigm Shift. He then hit a second Paradigm Shift for the pin. This was a good brawl.

**********

After the bell, Jericho’s music played. Jericho and the Inner Circle entered through the crowd. Jericho sated Moxley down, as Moxley did to him last week. They are on a collision course.

**********

I think this was the weakest Dynamite so far. They can’t all be winners, but there are some fundamental things like not shooting angles during commercial breaks that need to be addressed.

There is a way to achieve a sense of chaos and unpredictability, which I think they’re going for, that doesn’t require sensory overload or cramming so much into two hours that you have to shoot angles during commercials.

Fenix vs. Trent, six-man tag match set for next week’s AEW Dynamite

Two matches have been confirmed for next week’s edition of Dynamite.

Fenix vs. Trent was announced following the events of a match between Best Friends and Lucha Bros.. Pentagon & Fenix attacked Best Friends before the bell rang and had an early advantage, but the Best Friends cut them off, with Trent pinning Fenix to score the win for his team.

A six-man tag team match was also signed for next week, with Dustin Rhodes teaming with the Young Bucks to take on Sammy Guevara and Santana & Ortiz. This stems from a confrontation that took place on tonight’s show when Santana, Ortiz & Sammy Guevara came into the ring and jumped Dustin Rhodes as he was giving an interview. The Young Bucks came out for the save, including a returning Matt Jackson who was noticeably limping.

Joey Janela meanwhile announced at a GCW event tonight that he would accept a challenge from Jon Moxley for next week. That has yet to be confirmed by AEW.

Dynamite next week will be at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois.

AEW Dark spoilers: Jimmy Havoc vs. Darby Allin vs. Jack Evans

The following are AEW Dark results for next Tuesday’s YouTube show as well as some off-air Dynamite notes from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, courtesy of Joe Kazmer:

– Dustin Rhodes & Sonny Kiss defeated Peter Avalon (w/ Leva Bates) & QT Marshall

Rhodes pinned Marshall to get the win.

– After Dynamite went off the air, PAC assaulted Jon Moxley and tried to Pillmanize his neck with a chair, but Kenny Omega came out for the save. PAC fled, but Hangman Page confronted him and challenged him to a match at AEW Full Gear.

– Emi Sakura defeated Penelope Ford, Sadie Gibbs, and Allie in a four-way match

Sakura pinned Ford following a Tiger Driver.

Darby Allin defeated Jimmy Havoc and Jack Evans in a three-way falls count anywhere match

Allin pinned Evans after a top rope Coffin Drop with a chair.

Originally, Evans vs. Joey Janela was announced for Dynamite but was changed to Janela vs. Omega. The three-way match was then announced for AEW Dark.

Two matches announced for AEW Dark

AEW has announced two matches for next Tuesday’s edition of AEW Dark.

Both of the matches will be taped this Wednesday before premiering on YouTube at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, October 29. Darby Allin, Jimmy Havoc, and Jack Evans will face off in a three-way match, while Dustin Rhodes & Sonny Kiss will team against Peter Avalon & QT Marshall (Michael Cuellari).

Evans vs. Joey Janela was originally announced for this week’s Dynamite, but the match was changed to Janela facing Kenny Omega instead.

Allin unsuccessfully challenged for Chris Jericho’s AEW World Championship in a Philadelphia street fight on last week’s Dynamite.

An Undesirable to Undeniable segment with Cody Rhodes and Marshall aired on this week’s AEW Dark. It covered Marshall’s career, his time in Ring of Honor and suffering a neck injury, and working behind the scenes in AEW. Cody revealed that Marshall would be having his first AEW match.

Tomorrow’s live episode of Dynamite and AEW Dark tapings are taking place at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

VIDEO: Eight-man tag headlines episode three of AEW Dark

Episode three of AEW Dark debuts on YouTube at 7 p.m. Eastern time tonight and will feature three matches taped in Philadelphia:

The show will be headlined by an eight-man tag match, with The Young Bucks, Cody (w/ Brandi Rhodes) & Dustin Rhodes facing Private Party, CIMA & T-Hawk. Private Party and The Young Bucks are facing off again after Private Party eliminated them from the AEW Tag Team title tournament.

Both semifinal matches in the tournament will take place on Dynamite tomorrow. Private Party will face The Lucha Bros, while The Dark Order will take on SoCal Uncensored.

Nyla Rose vs. Leva Bates (w/ Peter Avalon) and Brandon Cutler vs. Joey Janela are the other two matches on tonight’s AEW Dark. There will also be an Undesirable to Undeniable segment with Cody Rhodes interviewing QT Marshall.

With last week’s Dynamite being held in Philly, Taz appeared as a guest broadcaster for AEW Dark and did commentary for the matches with Excalibur.

AEW Dark spoilers: Young Bucks team with Cody & Dustin Rhodes

Three matches were taped for AEW Dark at The Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last night.

– Joey Janela defeated Brandon Cutler

– Nyla Rose defeated Leva Bates (w/ Peter Avalon)

– The Young Bucks, Cody & Dustin Rhodes defeated CIMA, T-Hawk & Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy)

There was also a post-show segment where a kid dressed up as Orange Cassidy was brought into the ring with The Young Bucks, Cody, Dustin, Brandi Rhodes, and MJF. A referee came out and Cody let the kid pin him, with MJF getting mad at the referee and chasing him to the back.

With last night’s Dynamite taking place in Philadelphia, Taz was a guest broadcaster for the AEW Dark matches and called them with Excalibur.

Janela vs. Cutler was taped before Dynamite. Rose vs. Bates and the eight-man tag were taped after. The matches will air on AEW Dark next Tuesday (October 22).

Jericho & Guevara vs. Page & Dustin Rhodes set for AEW Dynamite

Coming out of the ending of Wednesday’s Dynamite premiere, AEW has announced a tag team match for next week.

Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara will face Hangman Page & Dustin Rhodes on Dynamite next Wednesday (October 9). The episode is taking place at the Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Dynamite premiere ended with an angle where Jericho, Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, and Jake Hager stood tall over The Young Bucks, Cody, and Dustin Rhodes after Hager (the former Jack Swagger) made a surprise appearance and debuted for AEW. Hager gave Jericho a gutwrench powerbomb onto a podium, then Jericho laid out Cody with the Judas Effect.

Cody had defeated Guevara earlier in the Dynamite premiere and was attacked by Jericho after the match.

The first episode of Dynamite also featured PAC defeating Hangman Page. It was Page’s first match since losing to Jericho at All Out, where Jericho became the inaugural AEW World Champion.

Jericho will defend his title against Cody at AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view on Saturday, November 9.

Two other matches are also set for next week’s Dynamite episode. The AEW Tag Team title tournament will begin with The Young Bucks facing Private Party in a first-round match, and Jon Moxley will take on Shawn Spears.

Dustin Rhodes signs multi-year extension with AEW

Image: Ricky Havlik

Dustin Rhodes has signed a contract extension with AEW.

AEW issued a press release announcing the news today. It’s a multi-year extension, though the exact length of the deal wasn’t revealed.

Dustin will be an in-ring wrestler for AEW and is also joining their coaching staff as a promo coach and match producer.

Dustin has had two matches for AEW thus far. After losing a brother vs. brother matchup against Cody at Double or Nothing, The Young Bucks defeated Cody & Dustin in the main event of Fight for the Fallen.

“Dustin Rhodes has had an incredible wrestling career that has spanned decades. His amazing journey brought him to AEW, and he’s rejuvenated his career here. In addition to all of the wisdom he’s shared with us as we’ve launched All Elite Wrestling, he’s come here and worked so hard for us. His comeback match against his brother Cody at Double or Nothing was one of the most acclaimed bouts in recent years, and it marked a new chapter for all of us,” AEW president and CEO Tony Khan said.

“Dustin and I had agreed weeks ago after Fight for the Fallen that we both wanted him to stay with All Elite Wrestling. He’s already done so much for us, and I’m thrilled that it’s official now that Dustin will be on our team going forward, both backstage and in the ring!”

Dustin joined AEW after being granted his release from WWE earlier this year.

AEW Fight for the Fallen live results: Young Bucks vs. Rhodes brothers

AEW presents their third show in company history tonight as Fight for the Fallen is held at Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Young Bucks will take on Cody & Dustin Rhodes in the main event of the show. The match was set up after Cody vs. Dustin at Double or Nothing, with Dustin agreeing to be Cody’s tag partner.

Kenny Omega will take on CIMA in a singles match, and Brandi Rhodes will make her AEW in-ring debut against Allie.

Hangman Page is taking on Kip Sabian. Ahead of his match against Page at All Out to determine the first AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho will have a “live mic” at tonight’s show.

Also set for tonight’s main card: Jimmy Havoc, Darby Allin & Joey Janela vs. MJF, Sammy Guevara & Shawn Spears, The Lucha Bros vs. SoCal Uncensored’s Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian, and The Dark Order vs. Angelico & Jack Evans vs. Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy (winning team advances to All Out for a shot at a first-round bye in AEW’s Tag Team title tournament).

Fight for the Fallen is benefiting Jacksonville’s Victim Assistance Advisory Council. The 45-minute pre-show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time and will feature Britt Baker & Riho vs. Shoko Nakajima & Bea Priestley and Sonny Kiss vs. Peter Avalon.

The show will air for free on B/R Live in the United States and Canada and will be available to purchase via Fite TV elsewhere. The pre-show will also stream on YouTube.

Excallibur and Alex Marvez are doing commentary, at least for The Buy In. No Goldenboy, which makes me sad.

Sonny Kiss pinned Peter Avalon (w/Leva Bates)

Avalon tried cutting a pre-match promo, but Kiss’ entrance cut it off. Kiss was accompanied by the Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleaders and mascot.

The fans really liked Kiss as he shined early. Avalon cut him off by grabbing his leg on a superkick and throwing Kiss down into the splits. Avalon hit a really nice dropkick to the sternum. Avalon threw Kiss outside, expecting Leva to do some sort of shenanigans, but Leva just picked Sonny up and rolled him back in the ring. Sonny broke into his comeback, which included a standing moonsault, called the Twerksault. Avalon missed a middle rope moonsault and was pinned after a middle rope split legdrop, which was the same move Christy Hemme used when she wrestled, just from the middle rope.

**********

Cody and Dustin Rhodes cut a backstage promo. Cody said they are happy to donate money to the victims of gun violence. Cody wasn’t sure if you could control the pace of the Young Bucks, but what happens when the Rhodes’ grab a body part. Young Bucks may be new school, but they are old school.

Dustin said he personally will power slam them both so hard that their souls will leave their bodies and will only be as good as they let him.

The interviewer asked Cody if he is 100% after the chair shot from Shawn Spears at Fyter Fest. Cody said if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be here. But tonight he will prove that The Brotherhood is better than The Bucks.

**********

Shoko Nakajima & Bea Priestley defeated Dr. Britt Baker & Riho

Bea and Shoko both came out with their championship belts, representing STARDOM and Joshi-Pro respectively. The only person in this match who felt like a babyface the entire time was Riho. Nakajima and Priestley were pretty good heels and Baker was definitely coming across as heelish.

The Doctor got confused early on and tried to tag in Nakajima, instead of Riho. The fans briefly let her hear about that. Priestley stomped down on the elbow of Riho, similar to Shayna Baszler would. Despite being 4’11, Nakajima worked well as a heel, even though in the opening salvo the fans were more behind her than Baker. Nakajima hit a Missile Dropkick that sent Baker across the ring and let her make the hot tag to Riho. The match broke down into a 4-way. After Priestly and Baker punched out their smaller foes, they dragged their partners to the corners to tag themselves in. The fans were really into Baker and Priestley going after each other. Priestley used a double springboard knee that looked like it smacked Baker right in the face. Riho hit a really nice Northern Lights Suplex and a Double Foot Stomp for a pair of 2 counts. Nakajima missed a senton, but pinned Riho after a step-up Hurricarana.

The match was sloppy at points, but the fans were into it the whole way. After the match Priestley and Baker went at it, but got pulled apart.

During this match there were technical problems for about 5 minutes where closed captioning appearing on the screen, even for people not clicking on it and being unable to remove it.

**********

Kip Sabian said he’s not here just to sit around and be happy to collect his checks and fill a spot, but he’s here to prove a point. Sabian looked directly at the camera, saying he has no animosity towards Adam Page. However he has a problem that it seems like Page gets preferential treatment by being a member of The Elite. He doesn’t want to talk about Kip, he’s obsessed with Jericho at All Out. Sabian said he hopes Page wins because that means he’ll be first in line after he beats Page tonight.

Good promo.

JR came out to join the announce team.

MJF, Sammy Guevara & “The Chairman” Shawn Spears defeated Jimmy Havoc, Darby Allin & Joey Janela

Spears and MJF argued from the start, with Spears mockingly clapping when MJF was being worked over early on. Neither would tag each other constantly tagging out to Guevera. We had some good, solid wrestling from all 6 in the match. Allin was really over with this crowd when he demanded to be tagged in when Spears was in the ring. Spears got heat when he walked off and tagged out. Guevera flipped off Allin, so Darby tried to break his arm. Excalibur mentioned that Janela trained by getting into a fight with “the absolute scum of the Earth at a Blink-182 concert”.

Spears finally stayed in the ring for a prolonged period when Janela was down. Spears blindtagged himself in, so MJF blindtagged himself in. MJF mocked Spears by doing the Tye Dillinger “10” handsign, before flipping him off. Shockingly that did not endear him to his partner and this led to Janela making the hot tag to Havoc. At one point Spears was in the corner, Havoc sent MJF shoulder first into Spears and then stood on MJF and did a superplex to Guevara. Everyone hit a big move on everyone. Guevara looked great with a series of dives out each side of the ring and used a Spanish Fly in the ring. Janela laid out Guevara with a Death Valley Driver on the apron and then specifically gave a middle finger to Jim Cornette, calling him out by name. Finally Spears pinned Allin with a running Death Valley Driver in the ring.

**********

NFL Pro Bowler/Jacksonville Jaguar Calais Campbell, AEW Owner Shahid Khan, Private Party and two of the sponsors were shown and named at ringside.

Alex Jebailey from CEO was sitting in the front row and got kicked out for some reason.

**********

Brandi Rhodes (w/Awesome Kong) pinned Allie

Before the match started, Brandi shook Allie’s hand and held it until Awesome Kong’s music played. Kong stood in Brandi’s corner. Allie got the better of Brandi early, but rolled out of the ring to confront Kong, which allowed Brandi to hit a sliding dropkick and take over. This was more than passable. Allie looked good as always and Brandi held her own. Allie used a reverse neckbreaker where she yanked Brandi down by the hair, which can never feel good. Brandi used a tornado snap suplex, which looked a bit awkward, but it did the trick. Allie used the Best Superkick Ever and a running Death Valley Driver, but Kong yanked Brandi out of the ensuing cover. Allie tapped out Brandi with a Dragon Sleeper, but Kong was distracting the referee. Brandi then hit the Bionic Spear for the win.

After the match Brandi and Kong put the boots to Allie. Kong went for the Implant Buster, but they were interrupted by Aja Kong! The All Japan Women’s legend marched to the ring and went face to face with Awesome Kong. The referees all hit the ring and Brandi was able to pry Awesome Kong away. Aja helped Allie to her feet and they walked away.

**********

The Dark Order defeated Jack Evans & Angelico and Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy (w/Marko Stunt)

It took until the start of the match for them to distinguish with Dark Order member is Stu Grayson and which is Evil Uno. Grayson was working over Angelico and was going for a big blow, but Uno insisted on being tagged in so he could chomp on Angelico’s ear. Uno then gave Jungle Boy the what’s what, so Luchasaurus tagged in for the square off of the big men. Uno cowered away and tagged out to Evans. Evans psyched himself up and got laid out. Eventually Dark Order took over on Jungle Boy, which included a back suplex on the ring apron, which is the hardest part of the ring and a slingshot Swanton by Grayson.

Dark Order was being the best team here, taking out everyone waiting for tags, including yanking both Evans and Angelico off the apron when Jungle Boy went for a tag. Uno mocked Luchasaurus too much, so it gave Boy a chance to get through him and make the tag to his partner. Luchasaurus is incredibly athletic, especially considering his size. He chokeslammed Evans over the top rope on top of Angelico, which was followed by Boy doing a Shooting Star Press onto them. Angelico gave Boy the running BT Bomb and appeared to be seconds away from victory when Bryan Alvarez’s hated nemesis, Marko Stunt, hit the ring and gave Evans a Hurricarana. The referee threw him out, so Luchasaurus heaved Stunt onto Angelico. Luchasaurus and Boy did this amazing double team power bomb on Evans. Uno finally pinned Boy with Fatality, which is a double team Blockbuster.

Dark Order will now face Best Friends at All Out with the winners getting a Bye in the AEW Tag Team Title Tournament. I am nitpicking, but my one gripe with this match would be that Dark Order took part in too much of the ha ha at the beginning. Since Double or Nothing they were pushed as this ultimate, serious, evil alliance and they were shown to be anything but.

**********

Hangman Page pinned Kip Sabian

The story of this match was Page was fighting through a knee injury, while Sabian took an incredible amount of punishment but still kept kicking out.

Page and Sabian went strike for strike in a battle to see who would knock the other off their feet first. Page won that with a rolling elbow. Hangman sold his knee during the match, but did break out a really nice bridging Pump Handle Suplex. Sabian used a Springboard Missile Dropkick more than halfway across the ring, which was nice. Sabian used a Double Footstomp and the a Senton when he landed, which was unique. Page used a belly to belly overhead suplex that nearly dropped Sabian on top of his head. Sabian was bleeding from the elbow somehow, but Page took his head off with a discus lariat. Sabian took his own back suplex on the ring apron, which is still the hardest part of the ring. Excalibur pointed out the ring post is harder, just as Page hit a beautiful moonsault off the top rope to the floor.

Page then gave Sabian a power bomb over the top rope and onto the ramp leading from the tunnel. No one, including the production crew, were expecting that. Sabian got in at the count of 9. Wasn’t it a 20 count countout at Double Or Nothing? They teased a time limit draw until Page hit the Dead Eye just after 19 minutes for the pin.

Both men worked hard and it was a good match, but much like the 4-way at Fyter Fest, the fans didn’t believe Page was going to lose so it hurt the heat for this match. Plus it didn’t help that it was a humid night in this outdoor show.

One of the Dark Order’s minions came in and attacked Page. Everyone pretty much knew who it was. Then when we got a Codebreaker it was obvious. It was Rhino.

No, it was Chris Jericho, who also gave Page the Judas Effect.

**********

Lucha Brothers defeated Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky of SoCal Uncensored (w/Christopher Daniels)

In case I forget to mention this, Aubrey Edwards is an excellent referee and has no problem believably exercising her authority in these matches.

Scorpio and Pentagon did a series of one-upsmanship at the start of the match, with Pentagon shouting “Cero Miedo” and Scorpio shouting “SCU”. That ended soon enough as we resumed the serious portion of our match. Daniels was interfering with Fenix and Pentagon’s offensive attempts, so they gave the Fallen Angel one of the hardest chops you’ve heard today. Daniels, who is not in the match, did a moonsault onto both Lucha Brothers outside the ring. Aubrey didn’t disqualify him, but instead kicked him out of ringside. Unlike Marko Stunt, he listened.

SCU got the heat on Fenix. Not a whole lot to say other than they are an excellent tag team, but I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. Pentagon got the hot tag and the Lucha Brothers took flight. At one point Kazarian was sitting in the corner, Sky got hung up in the Tree of Woe, so Fenix sent Pentagon over with a monkey flip cannonball into their opponents. Scorpio gave Pentagon a cutter on the apron, which is the hardest part of the ring. SCU gave Fenix an assisted DDT off the top rope, which could have easily been the finish. Pentagon jumped from the middle rope to hit a Canadian Destroyer, but Sky kicked out of that. However he didn’t kick out of a Double Footstomp/Package Piledriver combination.

After the match the Lucha Brothers laid out a returning Chris Daniels with a ladder they got from under the ring. Pentagon and Fenix challenged the Young Bucks to a Ladder Match at All Out.

Kenny Omega pinned CIMA

Alex Marvez, who has been a lot better on this show, said CIMA was fighting on behalf of 1.4 billion people in China. Well, I guess if Vince ever wants to tap into the Chinese fan base we have our next champion. CIMA was using a lot of hard strikes, while Omega, at least early on, was going a lot more spectacular looking maneuvers. CIMA with a one-foot dropkick right to the nose. Omega got tired of being a punching bag, so he used a Spinning Heel Kick and a running knee to the back of the head. CIMA used a sunset flip power bomb and went for the Meteora, but Omega moved out of the way.

Omega began working on the knees, but he got a gut full of knees when he went for a moonsault. Outside the ring Omega sidestepped a Pescado and then dropped CIMA’s knee on the apron. CIMA laid out Omega on the timekeepers table and then dove off the staging area with a Meteora. In the ring CIMA hit two more Meteora’s, but Omega kicked out. Omega caught him with another Meteora, hit a snap Dragon Suplex and a V-Trigger for a 2 count. CIMA hit two more Meteoras and then an Air Raid Crash on the ring apron, which, again, is the hardest part of the ring. CIMA hit a 5th Meteora, but Omega got hit foot on the ropes. Omega got a V-Trigger and a Tiger Driver 98 for a close 2 count and then picked up the fall with a One Winged Angel.

Chris Jericho Open Mic

Jericho said he still has Hangman’s blood on his hands. He said he has waited for weeks for a thank you from AEW. He realizes that an apology from the idiots in Jerksonville or Jackoffsville doesn’t matter. He dared them all to boo so the White Trash Riviera can hear them. Jericho said he’d get his thank you one at a time by beating the crap out of everyone in AEW. He said no one would be here without him, they’d be out on the streets. He created AEW and the tv deal on TNT is also because of him.

Jericho said he watched the battle royal and wondered who he would wrestle at All Out. Would it be the kid with no legs, or Michael Nakazawa or “the Young Bucks cabana boy” Brandon Cutler, who he didn’t even know. He said Hangman Page is one of the best in the world and when he beats him it will be another notch on his belt. But if he loses, not only is it the beginning of the end of AEW, but the beginning of the end of his career. He cannot lose to the Hangman. That’s why he attacked him tonight and left him in a pool of blood. You can’t trust Chris Jericho and he’s going to prove it at All Out by becoming the AEW Champion. He’s going to prove that without him AEW wouldn’t exist. He said he is going to prove that Hangman is a little bitch.

This brought out Hangman Page, who laid out Jericho. Referees, agents and some undercard guys ran in to break it up. SCU, Peter Avalon, Jack Evans and Angelico were among the guys who broke it up. A really good promo to build up the All Out main event.

The Young Bucks defeated The Brotherhood

On a personal standpoint I thought this was one of the best Young Bucks matches I’ve ever seen, purely from a psychological standpoint. Dustin looked pretty good, which will always be impressive considering he’s 50. When the Bucks dumped Cody and Dustin they mocked the Rhodes by tearfully hugging. The Bucks got the heat on Dustin and it was noted that Dustin has been wrestling longer than Matt has been alive. Dustin would have gotten the tag on multiple occasions, but Cody kept being dragged off the apron. Nick mocked Dustin, begging for the tag, so Dustin dropped him with an uppercut.

Both Cody and Dustin used a moonsault and Cody also did a tope to Matt on the ramp. Cody used a reverse superplex and went for a Vertebreaker. Matt got out of that, but he decided to dive shoulder-first into the ring post. Cody and Dustin did what they promised earlier, which was to grab a body part and work it over. Nick finally got the tag and ran wild on his own. Both teams used double submissions, with the Young Bucks using the double Sharpshooter, while the Brotherhood used a double Figure Four. Neither ended the match.

Cody broke up a Meltzer Driver with a Beautiful Disaster kick. The Rhodes’ using a double team Cross Rhodes, but it got broken up by Nick. We got the 4-way hockey fight spot, but Cody accidentally elbowed referee Rick Knox. With the ref down we got a double Shattered Dreams on the Bucks. Cody went for a dive to the floor, but got a pair of Superkicks for his trouble. We got more Superkicks. Matt and Nick did Dustin’s drop down uppercut, so Cody and Dustin used superkicks, Matt used a Cross Rhodes and then finished off Cody with a Meltzer Driver.

After the match Matt Jackson took the mic and said that everything they said the last few weeks just about competition. He noted he spent years listening to people talking about the myth of the Rhodes family. However they are the best tag team they’ve ever face.

A lot of the locker room emptied to present a check for $150,000 to the Victim Assistance Advisory Council, which was $110,000 from AEW and money from Kenny, Jebailey and a few others.

Cody asked if when they go to TNT in the fall, will everyone follow them, which made them all cheer. Omega took the mic and thanked the crowd, before bidding adieu to the crowd.

So that will do it from Jacksonville. Thank you all for reading and we’ll see you in Chicago for All Out.

AEW notes: Moxley’s in-ring debut, Cody & Dustin vs. Young Bucks

Coming out of Double or Nothing, AEW has made announcements for their next two shows.

– AEW sent out a press release tonight announcing that Jon Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose in WWE) will make his in-ring debut for the promotion at Fyter Fest in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday, June 29. It was also announced that Moxley has signed a full-time, multi-year deal with AEW.

Moxley appeared after Chris Jericho defeated Kenny Omega in the main event of Double or Nothing. He interrupted Jericho’s post-match promo, then laid out Jericho and the referee. Moxley brawled with Omega and ended up laying him out as well.

Fyter Fest is in partnership with CEO Fighting Game Championships. The show is taking place at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

– At Fight for the Fallen, Cody & Dustin Rhodes will team against The Young Bucks. That show is being held at Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, July 13 and is the third event in AEW history. Proceeds from the gate will benefit Jacksonville’s Victim Assistance Advisory Council.

Cody defeated Dustin at Double or Nothing, with Dustin bleeding heavily throughout the match. After the match, Cody cut a promo and said Dustin doesn’t get to retire here. He asked Dustin to team with him at Fight for the Fallen. Cody said he doesn’t need a partner or a friend for the tag match — he needs his older brother. Cody and Dustin then hugged.

Following Double or Nothing, Dustin tweeted that he’s feeling okay after his match against Cody: “I’m ok. God bless y’all and from my heart of hearts, the greatest night of my life.”

A brother vs. brother match will be one of the key pieces of All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing card.

After weeks of teases, Dustin Rhodes was confirmed as his brother Cody’s opponent for Double or Nothing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 25. Dustin issued a statement about his status with WWE after the announcement was made, revealing that he had requested his release from WWE and was granted it. Dustin also posted a video where he said goodbye to his Goldust character.

Telling compelling brother vs. brother stories has often been a difficult task in professional wrestling. The audience is willing to suspend their disbelief, but they’re only willing to do it to a certain level. Making people believe that two brothers — who were aligned before and likely will be again in the near future — are in a blood feud requires a good reason.

SUNDAY NEWS UPDATE

We have a new Observer Radio show up today with both Bryan Alvarez and Garrett Gonzalez talking about all the pro wrestling and MMA news. We’ll also have a show tonight talking Impact on PPV and the rest of the news.

Vin Diesel confirmed John Cena will be appearing in the movie Fast & Furious 9.

We don’t have details as to when or where the next NXT Takeover show will be, past that the 6/8 show in San Jose is off because of the Saudi Arabia show the day before. Several ideas have been thrown out but nothing is confirmed, but the decision has to be made by Wednesday, which is the date of the NXT tapings at Full Sail University.

Scorecard notes from the new controversial decisions yesterday on Bellator:

  • Benson Henderson beat Adam Piccolotti via split decision. Judge Anthony Maness gave Henderson rounds two and three. Judge Michael Guingona gave Henderson only the second round. Judge Marcos Rosales gave Henderson rounds two and three.
  • In the Rory MacDonald title defense against Jon Fitch, Ron McCarthy (John’s son) gave MacDonald the first, second and fourth round, while giving Fitch a 10-8 third round, as well as the fifth round leading to a 47-47 tie. Judge Anthony Maness scored the last three rounds for Fitch with round three as a 10-8 round. Judge Marcos Rosales gave MacDonald rounds one, three and four, but with a 10-8 third, it ended as a draw. I had Piccolotti and Fitch both winning.

Cody has released a video talking about his match against his brother Dustin at Double or Nothing.

Local advertising in Hartford lists these names for the Money in the Bank men’s match on 5/19: Lars Sullivan, Drew McIntyre, Ricochet, Cesaro, Andrade and Aleister Black. The official names will be announced on Raw tomorrow night.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • The finals of Pro Wrestling NOAH’s tag team tournament will be airing live on YouTube on early Tuesday morning.
  • Nothing but to the mainstream this weekend. Thus far, the only thing combat sports related that made the Google trends was Greg Hardy, with 50,000 searches, and was number 4 today when I checked but it’ll probably drop down. Nothing else from UFC made the list, nothing from Bellator did, nor boxing nor wrestling.
  • In the B block of the Champion Carnival tournament, with the winner facing A block winner Kento Miyahara, Jake Lee beat Joe Doering and Naoya Nomura best Suwama, to both finish 5-3. There was a playoff match where Lee beat Nomura to advance to the finals.
  • Impact’s Kevin Sullivan produced the entrance videos for Ilima-lei Macfarlane, Jon Fitch, Veta Arteaga, Nathan Stolen and Gaston Bolanos at last night’s Bellator show. I could tell on a few of them without even knowing. Some cool themed stuff. They had a real big crowd last night at the SAP Center.

Black b Dowie James, Mad Dog b Mil Muertes in a hardcore match to keep the BCW title. (thanks to Kevin Chiat)
  • BCW had advertised Kellyanne for last night’s show in Adelaide, but she was also booked last night in Melbourne against Millie McKenzie for Melbourne Championship Wrestling. Lots of people gave BCW criticism for false advertising, and she was not on the BCW show.

Dustin Rhodes posts statement on departure from WWE

The day after he was announced as his brother Cody’s opponent for AEW Double or Nothing, Dustin Rhodes posted a statement about his departure from WWE.

Rhodes wrote that he requested and was granted his release from WWE. He thanked the company, the fans, and his co-workers and asked that fans continue to support him wherever this journey leads him next:

Hello @wweuniverse! To begin, I want to say just how much I appreciate you allowing me to entertain you over these long and winding years. Being the son of the legendary Dream has been and will always be an immense honor and blessing to me, and I have always done my best to fill his shoes while transitioning into my own. I have had so many ups and downs in our great business and I’ve learned from every time that I have fallen down and every mistake I have made.

My life has been an open book for you fans and friends all over this wide world. You’ve been there to see my trials and tribulations and have stuck with me through it all. You’ve hated me, you’ve loved me, you’ve laughed with me and you’ve cried with me. You’ve immensely enjoyed my antics and entertainment, and I would like to think that I’ve done a good job. That I’ve done my father proud. I was born straight into the thick of this business. It is and has always been my life and I have loved every moment of the ride. I want to thank you all for the unwavering support you have given me. Thank you.

With that being said, I’ve been putting my body through quite a bit these last 30 years, and many opportunities that have been presented to me have taken a backseat to my love of wrestling. I have requested my release from WWE and it has been granted. I am taking this time to explore some of those many opportunities. Life is too short to not take ALL the chances you feel driven to take, and I will give this next chapter my full focus and effort. I would appreciate your continued support as I turn this page in my life and go wherever this journey may lead me next.

@WWE has given me and my family such incredible years and experiences and I have nothing but respect and warmth for everyone there. The roster is stacked with awe-inspiring talent who want the best and are breaking down all barriers to grab that coveted, elusive brass ring. To @WWE and to each and every one of my co workers, I love you, I appreciate you, and I thank you for loving and taking care of me for so long, Keep doing your thing and find *you* out there. Thank you so very much and God bless.

Remember and never forget the name of……#Goldust.

Til next time…

Rhodes also posted a video of him saying goodbye to his Goldust character.

Double or Nothing is taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 25. Rhodes will be having his first match since undergoing double knee surgery in July 2018.
