ROH TV results: Tag team main event, Matt Taven appears

A recap of Matt Taven winning the ROH World Championship at Madison Square Garden opened the show.

Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman called the action from ringside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Matt Taven came to the ring alone. The crowd littered the ring with streamers. Taven said, “I earned this…and I deserve this.” He ran down his own accolades. The crowd was actually supporting him respectfully.

As Taven was ranting about someone needing to earn an opportunity, the lights went out and Flip Gordon’s music hit. Gordon walked out on the ramp wearing a suit and said that he already earned his shot by winning the Sea of Honor tournament last year.

Gordon said that his knee is 100 percent and that ROH officials have declared him the number one contender. Gordon said he’s ready to challenge Taven.

A recap of the Jonathan Gresham and Silas Young feud aired.

Silas Young defeated Jonathan Gresham

An intense Code of Honor handshake started it off as Gresham was not going to be intimidated by the larger Young. A double hip toss sent both men to the floor. Outside of the ring, they exchanged some chain wrestling, which included a series of headlock takeovers.

Back in the ring, Young grounded Gresham as he showboated. Gresham finally fought free and landed a monster chop that got Young’s attention. This started a chop exchange that Gresham got the better of by using a closed fist. Young had gotten to him.

Next, Young used some nice chain wrestling to get the upper hand. Each man threatened a closed fist. Gresham attempted to counter out, but Young kept reversing into a wristlock. Gresham eventually got out of the hold with a dropkick that sent Young flying.

Young bailed to the floor and grabbed both a chair and the ring bell hammer. As referee Todd Sinclair took away the chair, Young blasted Gresham with the hammer. He then hooked on an abdominal stretch on Gresham. The referee had no choice but to stop the match as Gresham was out.

A replay of the finish of Kelly Klein defeating Mayu Iwatani at Madison Square Garden aired. This was to set up the angle that happened after that match with the Allure group debuting, featuring Mandy Leon, Angelina Love, and Velvet Sky.

Klein cut a promo saying that the Women of Honor World Championship was about wrestling, and that she’s going to give Allure the attention they desire. Klein said she’s there to clean up the hot mess they created.

ROH replayed the entire Rush vs. Dalton Castle match from Madison Square Garden, which Rush won in 16 seconds. This set up the heel turn by Castle as he destroyed the Boys post-match.

Riccaboni and Coleman talked about the disgusting actions of Bully Ray laying out Tenille Dashwood. This led to a promo by Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams. They said they are going to handle Bully Ray, but before they do, they’re going to take out The Kingdom.

The Briscoes defeated Soberano Jr. & Caristico

Mark Briscoe started it off with Soberano. Some kicks by Soberano set up a springboard hurricanrana onto Mark, who then tagged in Jay Briscoe. Caristico got Jay’s attention by hitting a back handspring flip and a hurricanrana of his own. Caristico used a springboard flipping arm drag to send Jay to the floor, where The Briscoes then regrouped.

After the break, Jay was beating up Caristico in the ring. He tagged in his brother Mark, who unloaded with punches. The Briscoes cut the ring in half, isolating Caristico in the corner. Finally, a double back handspring caught both Briscoes and gave Caristico the space he needed to tag in Soberano.

The two luchadores used some tandem flying maneuvers to send the Briscoes to the floor. Soberano did a running backflip dive on the brothers and Caristico followed that up with a high crossbody off the top turnbuckle.

Caristico was in the ring with Mark, who got hit with a kick and a flying crossbody — but Caristico only got a two count. Soberano hit a Doomsday-style crossbody off of Caristico’s shoulders, but Jay broke up the pin.

Jay landed a Spicolli driver for a two count. The Briscoes hit Redneck Boogey, but Soberano kicked out at two. Jay then hit a Jay Driller and Mark followed that up with the Froggy Bow to get the win.

Guerrillas of Destiny vs. Briscoes set for ROH War of the Worlds show

The social media back and forth between Guerrillas of Destiny and The Briscoes is leading to a match on ROH’s War of the Worlds tour.

ROH has announced that ROH & IWGP Tag Team Champions Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) will face The Briscoes at the War of the Worlds show in Villa Park, Illinois on Sunday, May 12. The show is an ROH television taping.

If Guerillas of Destiny are still ROH Tag Team Champions, the titles will be on the line when they face The Briscoes. Guerrillas of Destiny are also defending the ROH Tag Team titles against Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham at War of the Worlds: Buffalo on May 8.

Guerrillas of Destiny became the ROH Tag Team Champions by defeating PCO & Brody King, The Briscoes, and SANADA & EVIL in a title vs. title match at G1 Supercard.

Tonga tweeted about the angle with The Briscoes and Enzo & Cass that took place after their match at G1 Supercard: “I love the fact that Enzo and Cass came and jumped the losers of our match. @ringofhonor booking at its finest.”

The Briscoes then cut a promo challenging Guerrillas of Destiny, with Tonga responding by saying The Briscoes were lucky to even be in the match at Madison Square Garden.

The War of the Worlds tour also includes stops in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 9 and Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 11. Guerrillas of Destiny, Yuji Nagata, Satoshi Kojima, Hikuleo, and SANADA & EVIL have been announced for all four events. Hirooki Goto will be wrestling at the shows in Toronto, Grand Rapids, and Villa Park.

ROH TV results: Crockett Cup qualifying match

The Briscoes started off the episode with a promo about Jeff Cobb & Willie Mack. They’re facing off in a Crockett Cup qualifying match in this week’s main event.

Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman called the action on this week’s episode.

Shane Taylor defeated Luchasaurus

A pie-face contest started it off. Luchasaurus then used a vast display of kicks to knock Taylor off balance, but Taylor caught the monster with a draping cutter. That sent the show to its first commercial break.

After the commercial, Taylor was in control of the dinosaur-man until Luchasaurus used a snakebite and Shining Lizard to get the edge. Taylor fought back to his feet and a striking exchange ensued. Taylor ended that exchange with a big clothesline that earned him a two count.

Taylor wasted time jawing with his downed foe, who then managed to sit up and grab Taylor for a chokeslam. Luchasaurus followed that up with a standing moonsault, but Taylor got his knees up. Taylor used a side slam and a big knee to set him up for the Greetings from the 216. It connected and got Taylor the victory.

Silas Young was backstage talking trash about Jonathan Gresham until Gresham walked up. There was about to be a scuffle until security broke them up.

Tenille Dashwood joined Riccaboni and Coleman at the announce table for the next match.

Sumie Sakai & Mayu Iwatani defeated Mazzerati & Katie Forbes

Iwatani and Sakai went for the Code of Honor handshake before the match, but Mazzerati and Forbes weren’t having any of that. Mazzerati instead slapped Iwatani in the face. That only served to fire up Iwatani, who tossed Mazzerati around by the hair. Each woman then tagged in their partner.

Upon locking up, Forbes launched Sakai, but Sakai fought back until Forbes used a stink face to Sakai in the corner.

After the break, Mazzerati and Sakai were in the ring. Mazzerati missed a leg drop and Sakai went for the tag, but Forbes pulled Iwatani off the apron. Mazzerati used a DDT and went for a cover, but Iwatani broke it up at two.

Mazzerati missed a kick and Sakai hit a swinging neckbreaker. She then managed to get the tag to Iwatani, who came in and used a double flipping arm drag on her opponents and followed that up with a running dropkick on each.

Sakai and Iwatani ran into each other, and that allowed Forbes to pick up both on her shoulders. She delivered a double Samoan drop. There was a bit of miscommunication on the part of Mazzerati and Forbes as all four women were in the ring. Iwatani then superkicked Mazzerati right into Sakai’s Smash Mouth finisher to pick up the pinfall victory.

PJ Black talked about his loss to Bandido and how he’s since changed his mindset. Those two will have another singles match next week.

Nick Aldis joined Riccaboni and Coleman to call the main event.

The Briscoes defeated NWA National Champion Willie Mack & ROH TV Champion Jeff Cobb in a Crockett Cup qualifying match

At the start, Cobb held Mark Briscoe up for a delayed vertical suplex. The Briscoes seemed rattled by that. Mark tagged in Jay Briscoe, who went for a waistlock on Cobb. Jay used some nice ground work to put down Cobb, but Cobb just used his strength to stand back up. Cobb went for a test of strength, but Jay booted him in the gut and tagged in Mark.

After a break, Cobb was in trouble as the Briscoes went to work with a double shoulder tackle. The Briscoes illustrated why they are 10-time ROH Tag Team Champions with some impressive double-team moves. Mark landed a twisting moonsault on both of his foes on the outside. Jay put the boots to Cobb in the corner and then tagged Mark back in.

Cobb finally got the tag to Mack, who came in and cleaned house. He isolated Mark, but the numbers game caught up with him as the Briscoes used a sneak attack to get Mack to the ground. The Briscoes stomped Mack down in the corner and kept control with big punches and kicks. However, Mark got caught with a pop-up flatliner and Mack tagged in Cobb.

Cobb came in and overhead belly-to-belly suplexed each Briscoe in opposite corners. Cobb picked up both Briscoes and launched them overhead. He followed that up with a standing moonsault but only got a two count.

Mark tagged Jay. Jay leveled Cobb with a lariat. Cobb finally got to his feet and tagged in Mack, who also used a standing moonsault. Mack went after Jay on the outside, but Mark cut him off with a dropkick. The Briscoes used a blockbuster on the floor to take out Cobb.

Mack and Jay were the legal men in the ring. Jay caught Mack on his shoulders, allowing Mark to hit the Doomsday Device on Mack. Jay made the cover, but Cobb broke it up at two.

Jay tagged Mark in and they went for a combo move, but Cobb broke it up before it happened. Cobb went for the Tour of the Islands, but he was taken out by Jay on the outside.

Mack and Mark got into a heavy chop exchange. Mack caught him with a big boot, but Jay slid in and landed a hurricanrana before Mack could follow up. Jay then hit the Jay Driller on Mack and Mark hit the Froggy Elbow for the win.

Briscoes challenge Villain Enterprises to ROH Tag Team title rematch

It appears that Villain Enterprises will have a Tag Team title defense before G1 Supercard.

ROH posted video of a promo today where The Briscoes said they’re invoking their rematch clause for a Tag Team title rematch against Villain Enterprises (PCO & Brody King) at Road to G1 Supercard: Baltimore. PCO & King won the ROH Tag Team titles by defeating The Briscoes in a no disqualification match at last week’s 17th Anniversary pay-per-view.

The ROH Tag Team Champions facing IWGP Tag Team Champions Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) in a title vs. title match with both sets of belts on the line has been announced for G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, April 6.

Road to G1 Supercard: Baltimore is taking place at the UMBC Center on Sunday, March 31 and is ROH’s last show before Madison Square Garden.

Here are the other matches that have been announced for the Baltimore show:

  • ROH World Champion Jay Lethal & ROH TV Champion Jeff Cobb vs. IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson & Bandido vs. The Kingdom (TK O’Ryan & Vinny Marseglia)
  • Rush vs. Tracy Williams
  • Mark Haskins vs. Silas Young
  • Kenny King vs. PJ Black
  • Cheeseburger, Eli Isom & Ryan Nova vs Coast 2 Coast (LSG & Shaheem Ali) & Colin Delaney

Rush vs. Haskins, Crockett Cup qualifier added to ROH TV tapings

A matchup between two recent additions to the roster and a Crockett Cup qualifier have been announced for this month’s Ring of Honor television tapings.

Rush vs. Mark Haskins has been made official for the tapings, along with ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes vs. ROH Television Champion Jeff Cobb & NWA National Champion Willie Mack in a non-title Crockett Cup qualifying match. The tapings are being held at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, March 16, which is the night after the venue hosts ROH’s 17th Anniversary pay-per-view.

The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan) defending their ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles against Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, PCO & Brody King) is also set for this month’s tapings.

The NWA and ROH are partnering together for the Crockett Cup. It’s taking place at Cabarrus Arena in Concord, North Carolina on Saturday, April 27, and PCO & King and Jax Dane & Crimson are the first two teams that have been confirmed for the tournament.

Tag title vs. tag title match confirmed for ROH-NJPW G1 Supercard

A match for both the ROH and IWGP tag team championships has been set.

At this morning’s Honor Rising event, the Guerrillas of Destiny defeated EVIL and SANADA for the IWGP tag team titles. The Briscoes also won their match, retaining the ROH tag team titles against Juice Robinson and David Finlay in the main event.

After the main event concluded, Jay Briscoe got a mic and challenged GoD to a title for title match on April 6 at the G1 Supershow. GoD then came out, with Tanga Loa accepting the challenge on behalf of his team. The four then had a staredown, lifting both sets of titles in the air.

A few days later, New Japan officially confirmed that both champions will face one another. The ROH tag team championships will be defended on the ROH 17th Anniversary show, with the Briscoes defending against Brody King and PCO. The winners of that match will likely face GoD.

This would be the first match officially set for the G1 Supercard, which will take place at Madison Square Garden. It was announced earlier this week that the winner of next month’s New Japan Cup tournament will face IWGP Heavyweight champion Jay White for the title.

NJPW-ROH Honor Rising night two results: Tag team titles on the line

New Japan and Ring of Honor ran the second out of two Honor Rising shows tonight, featuring ROH, ROH tag team and IWGP tag team title matches.

Toa Henare and Jonathan Gresham defeated Zack Sabre Jr. and Taka Michinoku

Good opener. Gresham looked great, he and Sabre had some cool exchanges. He should really be back here soon, he would fit right in and he got over both nights.

Sabre seemed to have tweaked his knee while running to the corner. He worked most of this match, but tagged out to Taka. He and Gresham went at it as they had some nice exchanges, including a shooting star press from Gresham that looked really good. Taka eventually submitted to Gresham’s Octopus stretch.

They mentioned that the participants for the New Japan Cup will be revealed this Monday on the company’s website.

Marty Scurll defeated Robbie Eagles

This was fine. Pretty athletic, people were into Marty and the match overall but it was short. It also felt like a there was just a bunch of moves with no real story.

A lot of this match featured some back and forth that got over with the crowd. Scurll dodged a 450 splash by Eagles at one point. Eagles met him on the top rope and hit a super frankensteiner off the top rope for a good nearfall.

Scurll went for the fingers spot, but Eagles escaped. As Eagles hit the ropes, Scurll grabbed him and sunk in the chickenwing. Eagles immediately tapped out.

Colt Cabana and Toru Yano defeated Delirious and Cheeseburger

This was fun, and the crowd had fun with everyone’s antics. Colt Cabana and Cheeseburger wrestled and due to the size discrepancy, there was a lot of comedy. Most of this match was, really. Delirious and Yano were in and Colt Cabana introduced not one, but two turnbuckle posts. Yano smashed Cheeseburger with one, but he rallied back and struck Cabana with the shotei palm strike.

Cabana took down Delirious but was repulsed when grabbing his feet. Delirious low blowed Cabana and rolled him up, but he kicked out. Cabana cut off Delirious, hit the Chicago skyline (a snake eyes across the turnbuckle) then used his feet to roll up Delirious for the win.

Will Ospreay and Hirooki Goto defeated Jeff Cobb and Dalton Castle

A good match. They kept Cobb isolated, knocking out Dalton multiple times during the the match. He may still be injured as Cobb worked most of the match, though Dalton did get involved here and there. Ospreay in this match looked excellent. Ospreay hit the elbow to the back of the head then hit the stormbreaker for the pinfall victory.

Tetsuya Naito and Shingo Takagi defeated Matt Taven and Vinny Marseglia

This was alright, a standard tag team match. Everyone worked hard and for the most part, the crowd was into it. Kingdom got the heat on Shingo until he finally tagged in Naito who cleared house. Shingo came in and hit the pumping bomber on Marseglia, with Naito capping it off with the Destino for the victory.

Jay Lethal defeated TK O’Ryan to retain the ROH World title

This was very average, at best. O’Ryan just isn’t there as a singles yet and they had a competent, okay match that was nothing special.

Lethal entered the ring and immediately hit a suicide dive, taking out O’Ryan and suplexing him on the mat. Once back in the ring, they had a decent back and forth match. Lethal hit the Lethal Combination but O’Ryan cut him off on the top rope, but Lethal countered with and inverted suplex.

Lethal applied the figure four, then went for the Lethal Injection. O’Ryan escaped and tried for a pin with an O’Connor roll. Lethal escaped the roll, springboarded off the ropes and hit the Lethal Injection for the win.

Matt Taven jumped Jay Lethal after the match, grabbing the ROH title and said that he’ll see Lethal in Vegas for the Anniversary show.

Guerillas of Destiny defeated SANADA and EVIL for the IWGP tag team titles

Real good, action-packed match. These two teams have great chemistry with one another and had another hot match tonight. GoD are the most pushed and consistent team on the roster right now, so putting the titles back on them makes sense, especially after what happened following the next match.

Some good back and forth to start things off. Eventually, the challengers took the champions to the outside and started to brawl with them around the arena. Heels worked on SANADA until he cut them off and made the hot tag to EVIL, who went at it with Tanga Loa.

After SANADA was tagged back in, he and EVIL hone in on Tama Tonga. He escaped the magic killer and hits a gun stun on EVIL. SANADA grabs him and puts him in the skull end and looked to finish with the moonsault. Tonga rolls out of the way, sending SANADA crashing to the mat.

Loa entered the match, but EVIL followed with a lariat to the corner. They take Tonga for the magic killer but he shoves SANADA into the ref. GoD take control, grab SANADA and hit the super powerbomb for the win, making them five time IWGP tag team champions.

The Briscoes defeated Juice Robinson and David Finlay to retain the ROH tag team titles

This was a pretty hot match until David Finlay injured his shoulder, landing badly doing an uppercut off the top rope. It was serious enough that the match grinded to a halt and went right to the finish. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious but it didn’t look good here.

More hot back and forth action to start things off. Mark launched off with a giant tope con hilo to the floor, wiping out Lifeblood. Good back and forth throughout the match. Lifeblood are also starting to gel well as a team, taking out the Briscoes with stereo rolling sentons to the outside.

Lifeblood tried to go for the Doomsday Device but Jay cut them off, hit a superplex on Finlay as Mark landed the froggy bow for a nearfall. Finlay countered with a roll-up and cleared the ring, tagging to Juice. Finlay went for a uppercut but landed badly on his shoulder on impact. He told referee Todd Sinclair that his shoulder went out. They immediately went to the finish, with Mark posting Juice then landing the froggy bow on Finlay, with Jay covering to retain the titles.

Jay started the post-match promo saying they’re still the tag team champions. They brought up the Guerillas of Destiny, who are the new IWGP Heavyweight tag team champions. They officially challenged the Guerillas of Destiny for a title vs. title match for the G1 Supercard event on April 6.

Guerillas of Destiny came out. Tanga Loa accepted the challenge on their behalf as the two tag team champions held up their titles. They did a fake out on the Briscoes, left the ring as Jay said they’ll meet them at MSG as the show closed.

A pretty hot show overall. The tag team titles matches were good and work overall was pretty strong. We also have our first official match for the G1 Supercard, which sounds really cool and intriguing on paper. If the first match is indicative of anything, these two promotions are going to have some hot matches during WrestleMania weekend.

Bandido vs. Mark Haskins, more matches set for ROH TV tapings

In his Ring of Honor debut, Bandido will be facing one of the promotion’s other newest signees.

ROH has announced Bandido vs. Mark Haskins for their television tapings at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, January 12. Haskins has wrestled for ROH in the past, but this will be his first match for the promotion since signing with them.

A Tag Team title match has been announced for the tapings, with The Briscoes defending their titles against Best Friends (Beretta & Chuckie T). The Briscoes won the titles in a ladder war match against SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) and The Young Bucks at Final Battle last month.

David Finlay, who has wrestled at ROH/NJPW Honor Rising events in Japan in the past, will make his stateside ROH debut against Tracy Williams at the tapings, and Eli Isom vs. Silas Young in a match where the winner will get a future shot at the ROH Television title is also set.

ROH TV results: The Young Bucks vs. The Briscoes

– A recap of the Tag Team title change from last week where SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) defeated The Briscoes and The Young Bucks aired.

The Kingdom (Matt Taven & TK O’Ryan) defeated The Boys

Colt Cabana and Ian Riccaboni reminded us that The Kingdom laid out Dalton Castle with a three-man con-chair-to last week.

Before the match, Taven got on the mic and sent O’Ryan to the announce booth and said he could do this alone. He cheap-shotted The Boys to get the early advantage. Taven dominated until The Boys were able to fight back and land a double dive. However, the red balloons appeared and Vinny Marseglia emerged from under the ring to grab Boy One and pull him under. This left Taven alone to hit the Climax spike DDT on Boy Two for the win.

– Cody Rhodes talked about his upcoming match for the ROH World Championship against Jay Lethal at Final Battle.

– Riccaboni was in the ring and called out Jonathan Gresham to be interviewed. Riccaboni asked who he would be challenging at Final Battle. Gresham issued an open challenge to anyone who thinks they are the best technical wrestler in the world. Appearing immediately on the video screen was Zack Sabre Jr., who accepted the challenge.

Gresham responded by saying he would tap out Sabre.

– SoCal Uncensored were backstage. Christopher Daniels, who was wearing a neck brace, was on the phone with Joe Koff, and when he hung up he alerted Sky and Kazarian that they had been awarded contracts. Unfortunately, Daniels was not given a contract since he is not one of the Tag Team Champions. Daniels said he’d figure something out.

Kelly Klein defeated Jenny Rose in a Final Battle qualifying match

Klein got in Rose’s face immediately and took over with some brutal knees. Rose finally came back with a spear and some nasty slaps to the back of the head. Klein landed a cheap elbow, which allowed her to land the K-Power driver on Rose for the win.

Women of Honor World Champion Sumie Sakai had been watching from ringside and did not look to be impressed. She’ll defend her title against Klein, Madison Rayne, and Karen Q in a four corner survival match at Final Battle.

The Young Bucks vs. The Briscoes ended in a double DQ

Mark Briscoe and Nick Jackson started it off. They wrestled to a standoff, but Jay Briscoe came in without a tag and the double-team cheating began. Matt Jackson followed suit and landed a double dropkick. The Young Bucks used a hanging draping neckbreaker combined with a slingshot elbow to get the advantage.

After the break, The Briscoes were firmly in control as Mark worked over Matt. Matt evaded an attack and connected with a double clothesline. Matt tagged in Nick — who came in fired up. The Bucks hooked on a double Sharpshooters as the crowd chanted “tap.” Nick tagged Matt back in — which may have been a mistake as Mark laid waste to both Bucks. Jay got in and used the Sharpshooter on Matt in retaliation.

All four men ended up in the ring and exchanged strikes. The Bucks hit the ropes and each ate a superkick before immediately firing back with superkicks of their own. It looked like the Bucks were going for the Meltzer Driver, but Jay threw in two chairs. Jay grabbed one — as did Matt. Jay launched his at Nick as Matt launched his at Mark. Referee Todd Sinclair had no choice but to disqualify both teams.

The match was over — but the fighting continued. It was an all-out brawl for a few minutes until security finally made their way to the ring to separate the teams. Just as it was seemingly calmed down, SoCal Uncensored’s music hit and Sky and Kazarian came out.

Kazarian said that since there was no winner, they’d be happy to defend the ROH World Tag Team titles against both teams in a Ladder War match at Final Battle.

Ladder War match confirmed for ROH Final Battle

A Ladder War match for the Tag Team titles has been confirmed for next month’s Final Battle pay-per-view.

On this week’s episode of Ring of Honor television, The Young Bucks faced The Briscoes in a match to determine which team would challenge for SoCal Uncensored’s (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) Tag Team titles at Final Battle. After the match ended in a double disqualification, Sky & Kazarian came out and set up them defending their titles against both The Young Bucks and The Briscoes in a triple threat Ladder War at Final Battle.

In the most recent Ladder War match, The Young Bucks defeated Kazarian & Christopher Daniels and Motor City Machine Guns at All Star Extravaganza VIII in 2016.

Final Battle 2018 is being held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Friday, December 14. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • ROH World Champion Jay Lethal defending against Cody Rhodes
  • ROH Tag Team Champions SoCal Uncensored defending against The Young Bucks and The Briscoes in a triple threat Ladder War match
  • ROH Television Champion Jeff Cobb defending against Hangman Page
  • Women of Honor World Champion Sumie Sakai defending against Madison Rayne, Karen Q, and Kelly Klein in a four corner survival match
  • Marty Scurll vs. Christopher Daniels (for Scurll’s future shot at the ROH World Championship)
  • Matt Taven vs. Dalton Castle
  • Jonathan Gresham vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
  • Bully Ray vs. Flip Gordon in an I Quit match

ROH TV results: Six-man tag main event, Lethal issues a challenge

ROH World Champion Jay Lethal came to the ring to talk about his Iron Man match with Jonathan Gresham from last week. After listing some of the classic matches he’s had in ROH against opponents like Roderick Strong, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles, he called the match with Gresham his favorite.

Lethal then went on to issue a “Lethal Challenge” to any wrestler in the world.

Will Ospreay appeared on the video screen and accepted the challenge for a World title match in Las Vegas at Death Before Dishonor on September 28.

A SoCal Uncensored promo aired. They talked about how they will beat The Briscoes & Punishment Martinez in tonight’s six-man tag team main event.

Brandi Rhodes joined Caprice Coleman and Ian Riccaboni to call the next match.

Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai defeated Tasha Steelz in a non-title proving ground match

Sakai put a hurting on Steelz in the opening sequence, but Steelz landed a springboard bulldog for a two count. She went for the Boricua Butterfly, but Sakai countered into her Smashmouth finisher for the three count.

Backstage, the Bullet Club talked trash about the other factions in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Riccaboni got in the ring with Sakai and stated that the Women of Honor Championship is now known as the Women of Honor World Championship. Sakai took the microphone, said ROH is her home, and then challenged Tenille Dashwood to a match. Dashwood came out and accepted. She said the title match will be at Death Before Dishonor.

Riccaboni stayed in the ring to speak with Gresham. Before Gresham could finish, Bully Ray came to ringside. Ray claimed he single-handedly sold out Madison Square Garden and then called Gresham a jobber. Gresham took the mic and challenged Ray to a wrestling match, not a fight. It was neither as Ray immediately kicked Gresham low and the referee disqualified Ray.

Ray went for his chain, but Flip Gordon came out to make the save for Gresham. However, he ran into a big boot and looked to be in trouble too. Then Lethal came to the ring to make the save for both men. He fired up on Ray until Silas Young came out and landed Misery on Lethal.

Backstage, Lethal and Gresham went off on Ray and Young and challenged the two to a tag match on ROH TV next week.

SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) defeated The Briscoes & Punishment Martinez

Chris Sabin was on commentary to scout Martinez for their upcoming ROH TV Championship match.

SoCal Uncensored jumped their opponents and turned this into a brawl at the beginning. The Briscoes took over on Daniels and used quick tags to isolate him. Martinez and The Briscoes were working well together until Daniels was able to land a Blue Thunder Bomb and tag in Sky.

Wheel kicks and cutters galore sparked SCU, but Sky walked into a Spicolli driver from Mark Briscoe and a Silencer from Martinez.

Kazarian took the tag from Sky and landed a DDT on Mark Briscoe. The match broke down as everyone landed big moves. Mark Briscoe got a chair and wanted to hit Kazarian with it but accidentally nailed referee Paul Turner. That allowed Martinez to hit Kazarian with the chair. The Briscoes nailed everyone with chairs — and that caused Sabin to head to the ring to attack Martinez. The two of them brawled to the back, and Sabin used a shoe to hit him.

In the ring, Daniels and Kazarian finished the match with the Best Meltzer Ever on Mark Briscoe to get the win.

ROH announces Tag Team title match for Death Before Dishonor

Ring of Honor has officially announced the Tag Team title match for next month’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view.

It will be The Briscoes defending their titles against SoCal Uncensored members Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian at the PPV. The teams have been feuding since Best in the World in June, where SCU said they wanted the titles after making the save while The Briscoes were attacking The Young Bucks.

The Briscoes are also set to face Kazarian & Scorpio Sky in a non-title match at All In (during the Zero Hour broadcast on WGN America) this Saturday.

Death Before Dishonor is taking place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 28. The Bullet Club (Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Marty Scurll & Hangman Page) will take on Chaos (Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, Rocky Romero, Beretta & Chuckie T) in a 10-man tag match, and Jay Lethal vs. Will Ospreay for the ROH World Championship and Sumie Sakai vs. Tenille Dashwood for the Women of Honor title were set up for the PPV at ROH’s television tapings over the weekend.

Two matches set for All In: Zero Hour

Earlier today, it was announced that the first hour of All In will be airing live exclusively on WGN America.

Two matches have since been announced for that broadcast, which will be called “All In: Zero Hour” and will start at 6 p.m. Eastern time on September 1. The Briscoes are set to face Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky, and there will be a 15-participant “Over Budget Battle Royale.”

Moose, Rocky Romero, Colt Cabana, Jordynne Grace, and Ethan Page are the first five wrestlers announced for the battle royal.

The All In main card will then begin at 7 p.m. Eastern and will air live on pay-per-view, Fite TV, and HonorClub, though further details on the HonorClub option have yet to be announced. Fite TV lists the price for the show at $39.99.

Here’s the updated card for All In:

  • NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis defending against Cody Rhodes
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll
  • The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi vs. Rey Mysterio, Fenix & Bandido
  • “Arrow” star Stephen Amell vs. Christopher Daniels
  • Hangman Page vs. Joey Janela
  • 15-participant Over Budget Battle Royale (All In: Zero Hour)
  • The Briscoes vs. Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky (All In: Zero Hour)

ROH TV results: Best in the World go-home show

Episode #353 of Ring of Honor television was taped in New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Dalton Castle and The Boys kicked things off with a promo about the upcoming three-way World title match at the Best in the World pay-per-view this Friday, June 29 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Castle said he’s not afraid to get into the ring with two men (Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll) because he used to play semi-pro Jai alai in Tampa. He then attempted to use a pretzel as a metaphor but acknowledged that he was not sure what a metaphor was, but said that the title will remain his for a long time.

A highlight reel of Jay Lethal avenging his recent losses aired. Next on that list was Chuckie T.

Jay Lethal defeated Chuckie T

Respectful chain wrestling started it off. Chuckie got the advantage early, taking time to pose during a submission. He went for a moonsault and landed on his feet, then knocked Lethal down with a dropkick.

After the commercial, Lethal connected with his patented triple dive sequence and took control of the match — that was until Chuckie connected with the Soul Food boot to the jaw. A ton of reversals with each man landing on their feet repeatedly went until Chuckie landed outside and Lethal snapped off a Lethal Injection on the floor. Chuckie barely made it back into the ring before the 20 count expired.

Chuckie was able to stick Lethal with a snap piledriver for a two count. He then went for the Awful Waffle, but Lethal countered and landed the Lethal Injection for the victory.

A video recap played of Bully Ray low blowing and mocking Flip Gordon leading to their matchup at Best in the World.

The Young Bucks & Hangman Page defeated The Briscoes & Punishment Martinez

It took about 30 seconds for this one to break down into a wild brawl. The Bucks briefly took out Martinez with a double dropkick. Page landed a Shooting Star Press off the apron, then the Bucks double teamed the Briscoes and had control until Martinez came back and landed an insane flip dive off the cap of the ring post onto the Bucks and Page.

The Briscoes set up a table on the outside, with Mark Briscoe landing a huge elbow off the top rope onto Matt Jackson through it. The referee had been distracted by Martinez. Finally, Nick Jackson landed a huge dive, wiped out the Briscoes, and tagged Page, who landed his dropkick moonsault combo. Martinez and Page had a standoff until Page spit in his face and sent him outside with a clothesline. Page then hit a gigantic moonsault on all three opponents from the corner to the floor.

The Bucks hit a combo splash moonsault of their own on Martinez. It looked like the end, but the Briscoes broke it up. The Bucks were able to apply double Sharpshooters on the Briscoes, but Martinez grabbed their throats until Page connected with the Buck Shot. Martinez was in trouble after a draping 450 by Nick, but he kicked out at two.

The Briscoes took control and seemingly landed a Doomsday Device, but Matt landed on his feet. Martinez hit his psycho driver and a curb stomp on Matt, but he kicked out at two as well.

Nick bounced a chair off of Mark Briscoe’s dome, which led to a super kick party on Jay Briscoe. It looked like it was all over, but Mark cut off the Meltzer Driver with an insane cutter off the top rope. Jay landed the Jay Driller on Matt, but Page broke up the pin. Page then took Martinez off the apron and powerbombed him through a table. The Briscoes went for the Doomsday Device, but Matt ducked and was able to get the pin with the victory roll.

Cody made the save for the Bullet Club team as the Briscoes tried to attack them after the match.

ROH TV results: The Briscoes vs. Roppongi 3K

From the Odeum in Chicago, Illinois, this was episode #351 of Ring of Honor television. Colt Cabana and Ian Riccaboni called the action.

Flip Gordon defeated Jonathan Gresham

The match started with some impressive chain wrestling, and unsurprisingly, flips by each man. Gordon landed on his feet after a leg sweep and gave Gresham a “You can’t see me” hand wave. Gresham then attempted to hook up his version of the Octopus. A dropkick sent Gresham outside and Gordon launched himself onto him on the floor.

After the commercial, a strike exchange ensued for a very long time until Gordon hit an amazing back heel kick over his own shoulder and landed a Falcon Arrow. Gresham kicked out and managed a quick roll-up, but Gordon kicked out and then landed a Star Spangled Stunner for the win.

Bully Ray came to the ring and said his perspective of Gordon has changed because he has learned that Gordon is from Montana. Ray told a story about wanting to buy a ranch for his father in Montana, but his father had a heart attack and died before he bought it. Ray said that he respected Gordon in life because of his Montana roots as well as his time served in the Army.

Ray said that there was no heat anymore and asked for a handshake. He shook Gordon’s hand, gave him a salute, and then hit a low blow. Ray laughed and told Gordon that he is nothing but a stupid young boy.

A video package aired setting up the grudge match between Kelly Klein and Deonna Purrazzo.

A recap aired of last week’s main event of Austin Aries vs. Silas Young and Aries’ subsequent loss and meltdown involving his groin attacks of both head referee Todd Sinclair and former friend Kenny King.

Kelly Klein defeated Deonna Purrazzo

Purrazzo came to the ring in street fight gear — jeans and a T-shirt. She got the early jump on Klein, beat her down, and went to work on the arm.

After the break, Purrazzo remained in control and hit three German suplexes, then locked on an arm submission. It was all Purrazzo until Klein was able to counter and launch her into the ring post. Klein landed a fall-away slam from the second rope. Purrazzo got back to her feet and pushed Klein, who bumped into the referee.

Purrazzo landed a cutter, but no referee was there to count the pin. She hooked up the Fujiwara armbar, but Klein reversed it into a choke and Purrazzo tapped out immediately.

In a promo, Jay Lethal announced that his rubber match against KUSHIDA for Best in the World was now official.

Also in a promo, Dalton Castle said that Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll should fear him at Best in the World because his internal fire rages like a furnace.

Caprice Coleman joined Cabana and Riccaboni on commentary for the main event.

ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes defeated Roppongi 3K (Sho & Yoh) to retain their titles

The Briscoes got a lot of heat on Yoh until Sho got the hot tag and ran wild. Sho hit three German suplexes on Mark Briscoe with a superkick assist by Yoh. The Briscoes got back in control after a lariat on Sho. The Briscoes hit some impressive double-team maneuvers, including a double football shoulder tackle and a Razor’s Edge into a cutter. They also hit a power plex elbow combo, but Sho kicked out.

Roppongi 3K fired up and made a comeback with double knees and double flip dives. They threw Mark back in the ring and landed their 3K finisher, but he kicked out. It looked like 3K was on the verge of winning until Jay Briscoe threw a chair into the ring for a distraction. Then Mark kicked Yoh below the belt and the Jay Driller finished it.

The result makes it official that The Briscoes will be defending the ROH Tag Team belts against The Young Bucks at Best in the World on June 29th.
