ROH pulls The Collective talent from TV tapings as COVID-19 precaution

Thanks to help from John Pollock of Post Wrestling

ROH officials made a decision today that a number of talents brought in for the television tapings this week would not be used due to being in contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19 at The Collective series of wrestling events over the weekend in Indianapolis.

Three wrestlers have publicly come forward from that weekend, AC Mack, Dan the Dad, and Cabana Man Dan, stating that they had tested positive from the series of events that included a lot of top non-WWE talent that included stars from AEW, ROH, and Impact Wrestling. We are told that the ROH tapings had to be rewritten due to a number of people being sent home after the company learned yesterday they were exposed to people who had tested positive due to the company’s internal protocol being used in conjunction with working with the Maryland State Athletic Commission.

ROH has had some of the strictest COVID protocols of any wrestling company in the world since the outbreak in March, including a long period of not running any events nor taping new television shows. They returned to action with the Pure title tournament.

This was confirmed with multiple sources although officially Joe Koff would not comment on the specific matter.

“While Ring of Honor does not publicly discuss specific internal decisions, ROH is taking every measure to preserve the integrity of its rigorous health and safety protocol for the upcoming tapings,” Koff said in an email to the Observer.

Rush, Bandido unable to wrestle at tonight’s ROH TV tapings

ROH announced a number of changes prior to their television tapings tonight in Las Vegas.

It was announced in a tweet that new Ring of Honor World Champion Rush would not be medically cleared to compete tonight. He was originally supposed to team with his brother Dragon Lee to take on the Villain Enterprises team of PCO and Brody King. It was said that Rush will still open the event with a promo.

Dragon Lee will now instead team with ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes to challenge Villain Enterprises for the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles.

It was also announced that Bandido is suffering from a knee injury and would also be unable to compete tonight. PJ Black has taken his place in the Final Battle number one contender’s tournament and will face Jay Lethal in the first round tonight. Dalton Castle vs. Mark Haskins is the other first round match taking place at tonight’s tapings.

In addition to the above changes, Jake Atlas vs. Tyler Bateman has also been added to the card, which takes place tonight at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas

Title change at post-Best in the World ROH TV tapings

Results: @DaveMuscarella

One of the NWA’s titles changed hands at ROH’s post-Best in the World television tapings.

James Storm defeated Colt Cabana to become the new NWA National Champion at Saturday’s TV tapings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Cabana was in street clothes and tapped out to a half crab.

Cabana was doing an interview about his injury when he was interrupted by Storm. After their last match against each other in May ended in a 15-minute time-limit draw, Storm said he wanted his five more minutes now. Cabana initially refused because of his injury but accepted after Storm attacked him.

Storm tweeted after his title win: “Well I know @nwa isn’t a fan of mine and won’t post this as they do for ALL the others so……. AND NEW…… James Mother F ing Storm”

Cabana was originally scheduled to team with NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis against The Briscoes at Friday’s Best in the World pay-per-view, but he was pulled from the match due to an injury that he suffered on June 5 that resulted in a hematoma on his quadriceps muscle and made it so he couldn’t walk for nearly two weeks.

Eli Drake replaced Cabana as Aldis’ partner, and it was revealed that Drake has signed with the NWA. Aldis & Drake vs. The Briscoes ended in a double countout.

Briscoes vs. Rush & Dragon Lee set for ROH TV tapings in Philadelphia

Two pairs of brothers will be facing off at ROH’s post-Best in the World television tapings.

ROH has announced The Briscoes vs. Rush & Dragon Lee for their TV tapings at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 29. This is the first match announced for the tapings.

This year’s Best in the World pay-per-view is taking place at the UMBC Event Center in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, June 28. At ROH’s most recent set of TV tapings, Dalton Castle challenged Dragon Lee to a match at the PPV. Castle has been involved in a feud with Rush, with Rush defeating him in seconds at G1 Supercard.

The Briscoes cut a promo last week challenging ROH Tag Team Champions Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) to a no disqualification match, but when that match will be happening has yet to be revealed.

Two matches have been made official for the Best in the World PPV. ROH World Champion Matt Taven will defend his title against Jeff Cobb, and Shane Taylor will defend the Television title against Bandido.

Four matches announced for ROH State of the Art TV tapings

ROH has announced four matches for their next set of television tapings.

Two of those are title matches. ROH World Champion Matt Taven will defend his title against Tracy Williams in Kent, Washington on Saturday, June 1. Colt Cabana will also defend the NWA National Championship against Mark Briscoe at the tapings.

The tapings are the first night of ROH’s State of the Art weekend in the Pacific Northwest.

Williams defeated Eli Isom, Rush, and PJ Black in a four corner survival match at ROH’s War of the Worlds event in Grand Rapids, Michigan last week to get a title shot against Taven.

The Briscoes are involved in a storyline where they want to get revenge on the NWA after they were disqualified in their match against PCO & Brody King at the Crockett Cup.

Jay Lethal vs. Kenny King and The Kingdom (Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan) vs. The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser & Brawler Milonas) are the other two matches that have been announced for the tapings. Lethal vs. King is part of a best-of-three series between them. The series began at ROH’s TV tapings this past weekend.

State of the Art night two will take place in Portland, Oregon on Sunday, June 2 and will air live on HonorClub.

Title change at ROH TV tapings in Las Vegas

A Six-Man Tag Team title change took place at Ring of Honor’s television tapings in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night.

Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, PCO & Brody King) defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan) to become the new ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions.

With the title change, PCO & King now hold both the ROH Tag Team and Six-Man Tag Team titles. They defeated The Briscoes in a no disqualification match in the main event of Friday’s ROH 17th Anniversary pay-per-view to become Tag Team Champions.

Villain Enterprises were originally scheduled to challenge The Kingdom for the Six-Man titles at February’s TV tapings in Lakeland, Florida, but King didn’t appear at the show due to the birth of his son.

Before losing the titles to Villain Enterprises, The Kingdom had been Six-Man Champions since defeating The Young Bucks & Cody Rhodes at Survival of the Fittest in November 2018.
