Thursday Update

WWE

  • Bayley thanked Charlotte Flair for stopping by the free seminar she’s holding in Orlando this week and spending some time with the attendees: “Thank you @MsCharlotteWWE for spending your morning with the Lodestone Women before flying out to Smackdown”
  • Charlotte responded to Bayley: “Bayley……. YOUR commitment to elevating women’s wrestling is unmatched, and it pushes all of us to raise the bar. thank you for the opportunity…. KEEP DREAMING & working hard ladies”
  • Fox News Digital asked Logan Paul if he could see President Donald Trump attending John Cena’s last match on December 13 in Washington, D.C.:
    • We (Paul and his friends) have talked about it. I have no idea. It seems like something that could happen. I think it’d be awesome. But I don’t know how political the WWE wants to get, so I’m not sure.
  • Paul uploaded a new episode of his vlog.
  • Becky Lynch celebrated her daughter Roux’s fifth birthday: “5 years ago, the world was introduced to the GREATEST child of all time. It’s not just me saying it, everyone is saying it. My HOT husband says it! (Sports Illustrated might have mentioned it)”
  • Paul “Triple H” Levesque wished Jelly Roll a happy 41st birthday: “Music icon. WWE superstar. Inspiration. Proud of the many challenges he’s faced and overcome and even prouder to call him a friend. Happy birthday @JellyRoll615!”
  • On social media, AJ Styles responded to a fan who claimed that he and Dragon Lee stole a tag team move from The Young Bucks: “In Prowrestling you can’t claim moves. They may be your signature, but those are still open to the public. Any confident wrestler wouldn’t ever change that. Calm down guys.”
  • Former WWE executive George Barrios is writing a book titled “Sometimes Wrong but Never in Doubt: How a Cuban Kid from Queens Transformed WWE.” It will be released in June 2026:
    • George Barrios helped transform WWE from an $800 million wrestling company into a $9.3 billion global sports and entertainment powerhouse. For the son of Cuban immigrants who grew up in a cramped Queens apartment near LaGuardia Airport and nearly flunked out of high school, the climb to the corporate boardroom was anything but obvious.
    • Barrios’s story blends grit, reinvention, and bold bets. He went from a 2nd grader forging a letter from his parents so the nuns wouldn’t expel him to the highest levels of corporate leadership. As WWE’s longtime strategist, he pioneered streaming years before other sports properties caught up and helped make WWE the #1 sports brand on YouTube with over a billion followers.
    • When Vince McMahon abruptly fired him in 2020, Barrios cofounded Isos Capital—and three years later, McMahon called him back. The Cuban kid from Queens had become indispensable.
    • Sometimes Wrong but Never in Doubt offers:
    • A framework for spotting undervalued assets and transforming legacy businesses.
    • Hard-won lessons on navigating corporate politics and surviving setbacks.
    • A masterclass in disrupting before being disrupted – and betting on conviction when everyone else doubts your vision.
    • This is both an immigrant’s story and a playbook for entrepreneurs and executives seeking to stay ahead of the curve – proof that preparation, persistence, and courage can change everything.
  • Comedian Andrew Schulz appeared on a new edition of “What’s Your Story?” with Stephanie McMahon.
  • WWE Vault uploaded a full Georgia Championship Wrestling Omni show from December 4, 1983.
  • CM Punk was featured on WWE Break it Down, looking back at some of the gear he wore throughout his career.
  • Punk said that, when he wore Randy Savage tribute gear in 2011, an unnamed higher up in WWE told him that he shouldn’t do that – but Punk wore it anyway:
    • Unfortunately, just before this picture, the legendary ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage passed away. So I wanted to pay homage to a classic pair of gear – twofold really. You know, pink looks great on me – and this is an homage to the gear he wore at WrestleMania III taking on Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat.
    • Now, I commissioned my gear maker at the time to make this gear. And I won’t name names, but somebody very high in the office walked past and saw it and found me and said, ‘Do not wear that gear on television.’
    • And I said, ‘You got it.’ And I wore the gear on television, because that’s what I do. I’m going to pay homage to Randy Savage whether you like it or not.
    • As a fan, Macho Man to me was, you know, I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, so we tend to gravitate toward the guys that we feel aren’t getting the spotlight we think they deserve. We maybe feel like, ‘Oh, Macho should’ve been in Hogan’s spot.’ And really, that kind of passion that I had as a fan, and that fans in turn have for me, is really what has propelled me throughout my career.

Other Wrestling

  • Swerve Strickland attended The Root 100 Gala in New York City last night and took a photo on the red carpet with CBS broadcaster Gayle King.
  • Chris Jericho interviewed Viva Van on a new episode of Talk is Jericho.
  • While speaking with NJPW’s English-language website, Kazuchika Okada addressed whether his match against Hiroshi Tanahashi should main event Wrestle Kingdom 20:
    • I’ve always thought that the IWGP title should absolutely go on last, but in a situation like this Tanahashi’s last match should absolutely go on last. That’s what people are coming to see. Maybe this is pushing it a bit but it’s kind of like eating your meal, having dessert and then in comes a second entree. People might be stuffed, but even then, maybe because of that I like the main event better.
  • Zilla Fatu remembered his late father Umaga, who passed away on this day in 2009: “Today be a sad day for me …. I miss you pops”
  • Maven posted an Umaga tribute:
    • Hard to believe it’s been 16 years. I still remember getting the call from D-Von, telling me that one of my closest friends, Ekie, better known to the world as Umaga, was gone. At first, it didn’t register, but within minutes, the reality hit, and the tears came.
    • Ekie was one of the first guys to welcome me when I stepped into this business. Even after I left WWE, he was one of the few I stayed in close contact with. He was more than a colleague; he was family.
    • Thank you, Ekie. Miss you every day. Rest easy, brother.
  • Indie wrestler Facade announced that, barring any serious change, 2026 will be his last year performing.

Wednesday Update

WWE

  • John Cena recorded an episode of the Bill Simmons Podcast that will be released on Thursday night.
  • On the Pat McAfee Show, WWE President Nick Khan praised Cena for how hard he works:
    • You talk about people who work their behinds off, who never say that they’re tired: Cena. You know him, you never hear him say, ‘I’m so tired, I can’t believe this, I have to do this or that.’ He just does it.
    • And you talk about the GOAT [Greatest of All Time], that’s GOAT mentality. He deserves everything that he’s earned in his life, and it’s our honor to help see him out.
  • Khan noted that he and McAfee will be meeting soon to discuss McAfee’s WWE return: “Listen, we’re going to bring you back. I know you and I are going to sit together once college football slows a little bit.”
  • Lucha Libre AAA confirmed that Natalya & Lola Vice will team up with Faby Apache for a six-woman tag match against Flammer, La Hiedra & Lady Maravilla at Guerra de Titanes on December 20.
  • WWE’s YouTube channel has surpassed 100 billion views over the course of its lifetime, making it only the 12th channel to ever do so.
  • WWE uploaded the full Je’Von Evans, Leon Slater, Joe Hendry & Myles Borne vs. DarkState main event from NXT last night, along with the complete John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar match from Wrestlepalooza.
  • Men’s Health interviewed Charlotte Flair.
  • Wren Sinclair was a guest on the Battleground podcast

Other Wrestling

  • The Thanksgiving night episode of AEW Collision averaged 285,000 viewers on TNT and drew a 0.06 rating in the 18-49 demo.
  • The Rizzler appeared on Hey (EW) with RJ City.
  • Here is the announced lineup for this Thursday’s episode of TNA Impact:
    • The Hardys, Steve Maclin & Cedric Alexander vs. Lexis King, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, Tyson Dupont & Tyriek Igwe
    • Number one contender’s match: Dani Luna vs. Xia Brookside
    • Mustafa Ali vs. Trey Miguel
    • Mike Santana vs. Robert Stone
    • First Class Penthouse segment with Leon Slater
    • Home Town Man (Cody Deaner) vs. Brooks Jensen
  • Denise Salcedo has an interview with TNA President Carlos Silva.
  • While speaking with Wrestlezone, Silva addressed how often Impact will air live in its new TV deal with AMC:
    • Probably in the first six months, I would say we’re probably going to be live a few more times than we’re usually live. We want to be live more often. There’s still some logistics and operations issues to moving the crew around and finding the right locations so many times. So, certainly, in the first six months, it’s going to be a combination of live and taped.
    • I’m a live guy, we’ve got some operational issues and workflow issues with the new network partner in AMC. We’d like to be live more often. But I think we’re going to be smart and work through this partnership in the first three months, then six months, so that we do things well, the way that we know how to do them. And then we’ll be able to pivot and do even more. I know the fans love live, I know the wrestlers love live, and I love live, but we’ve just got to be smart about it, how to do it and when to do it, so we do it well.
  • TNA Knockouts Champion Lei Ying Lee was a guest on Busted Open Radio today.
  • The Hardys will defend their House of Glory Tag Team titles against Zilla Fatu & Lance Anoa’i at the indie promotion’s Winter Warfare show in Queens, New York on December 19.

Monday Update

–Bryan and I will be back tonight talking about Raw, Ronda Rousey, Survivor Series fallout and the ridiculous weekend upcoming for events.

–Due to Thanksgiving, ratings are not out yet.  At this point, the last ratings out are for last Monday, so seven days ago.  I expect a big data dump tomorrow that would include last Monday’s Raw on Netflix, NXT, and both Dynamite and Collision from Wednesday and Thursday.  Smackdown could be out tomorrow but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s Wednesday or Thursday.

–Zootopia 2 which includes voice work from Dwayne Johnson, Roman Reigns and CM Punk, opened at $156 million over the four-day weekend, beating  Wicked For Good that did $93 million in its second week of release.  Zootopia 2  also did about $400 million outside the U.S. and Canada.

–Raw is tonight in Glendale, AZ.  Paul Levesque promised a great show as a follow-up from Survivor Series.  The semifinals of the John Cena tournament are Gunther vs. Solo Sikoa and LA Knight vs. Jey Uso.  AJ Styles & Dragon Lee defend the tag titles against The New Day   There were 8,400 tickets out as of earlier today.

–Becky Lynch is doing a worked boycott of Raw unless she’s reinstated as IC champion.

–We’re looking for your thoughts on Survivor Series, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

–Nikki Bella’s role will be changing shortly.  She is still figured into the plans.

–ROH will be doing an episode of its TV show tomorrow night at 7 p.m.  on the ROH YouTube channel.  This will likely help finalize Friday’s ROH Final Battle show.  They will air the Queen Aminata vs. Deonna Purrazzo and Billie Starkz vs. Yuka Sakazaki semifinals in the women’s Pure title tournament I believe, since the finals are Friday.–Daria Berenato, the former Sonya Deville, is in ahorro movie called “Zombois” which starts filming in Atlanta this month.

–Ken Anderson will be working the 12/13 Wrestling Revolver show in Clive, IA.

–Mick Foley  has a European tour of shows that are all sold out.

–The funeral for wrestling photographer George Tahinos will  take place on Saturday  at the Fair Lawn Athletic Club in Fair Lawn,  NJ.  Tahinos, who was the main photographer for  ECW and did photos for a number of magazines, passed away at the age of 63 two weeks ago.

–Advertised for tomorrow’s NXT is DarkState vs. Leon Slater & Je’Von Evans & Myles Borne & Joe Hendry, Josh Briggs vs Tavion Heights plus The Culling explain why they turned on Tatum Paxley.

–There is a great detailed article on the retirement of Hiroshi Tanahashi and the last year of New Japan.  We should  have more on this in the next few  days but it really goes  into the politics of AEW vs WWE and how it affected this show.

–Bill Apter sent us this interview with Jim Duggan

–A podcast interview with Ben Askren

–A story on ESPN being in bed with WWE and how much they were promoting Survivor Series

–An interview with Raven

–Noriyo Tateno of the JB Angels tag team turned 60 today.  There was just this past week a successful event in Japan for the 40th anniversary of the team and a lot of the big stars from that era appeared at it.  Trinity from TNA, not Trinity Fatu but Stephanie Finochio, turns 54 today.  Miguel Blackie Guzman, the  brother of El Santo and the top star in Texas in the early 50s, passed away 52 years ago today at the age of 57.
(thanks to Tony Richards)

–Super Strong Heavyweight Wrestling on 12/7 in Mount Holly, NJ at 22 King Street.  The show will benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center.  Tommy Cairo will be promoting the show.

–The New Japan tag team tournament continues with an A block show tomorrow with Oleg Boltin & Toru Yano vs. Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens, Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hashi vs. Evil & Don Fale, Desperado & Shuji Ishikawa vs Yota Tsuji & Gabe Kidd and Taichi & Satoshi KIojima vs. Shingo Takagi & Drilla Moloney.

Sunday Update

— Bryan and I did our weekend show covering Survivor Series and the weekend TV and other news last night. That’s our only weekend show for this week and we’ll be back tomorrow night.

— We talked extensively on last night’s show regarding Survivor Series. The Bron Breakker pin on CM Punk was to set up a future title match. Austin Theory was the guy who interfered and the original plan was for him to be part of The Vision. Originally he was supposed to be in War Games before the Jacob Fatu injury forced them to move up the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre feud one month, and thus opened both of them up for War Games, with Rhodes as Fatu’s replacement and the feeling was McIntyre would fit better in the match than Theory.

— For matches this weekend, the stuff I’ve seen and heavily recommend would be the Claudio Castagnoli win over Gran Guerrero for the CMLL title Friday night as well as the Leyenda de Plata finals with Mistico vs. Cavernario vs Soberano Jr, which was Friday’s main event before a sellout of 16,000 fans.  They couldn’t have been more different. The title match takes you back to a 1975 world title match, different moves, but same crowd feel and a little more aggressive.  The main event was a top-fight version of an Arena Mexico main event with two of the most charismatic guys in the business. The other match I saw that looked great was Chris Carter vs. Jack Cartwheel vs Aigie Blanc (who used another name) on Friday night’s AAA show. I haven’t seen the Vikingo vs. Grande Americano match on that show but was told it was great as well.  The most highly recommended New Japan match was Yuya Uemura & Shota Umino vs Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa.

— Last night’s Arena Coliseo main event with Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta & Daniel Garcia vs. Esfinge & Ultimo Guerrero & Difunto was very good, but most notable is that after the match people were throwing plastic bottles into the ring at the Death Riders. Some thought it was cool seeing that as heat. I know in CMLL they hate that stuff, and it almost never happens. It was more of a reaction to Yuta it appeared to me. The guy is a natural heat magnet. It was a great main event as well.

— We’re looking for your thoughts on Survivor Series so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

— A correction from yesterday’s Observer. We listed Dynamite on New Year’s Eve starting at  6 p.m.  It’s actually a 6 p.m. start on Christmas Eve, not New Year’s Eve. (thanks to Jose Santana)

— Court Bauer said that Thursday’s MLW show in Charleston, SC was a complete sellout of the building.  WrestleTix is listed as a sellout with a 607 capacity and the building’s listed capacity was 1,198. Bauer said they opened up the entire building and sold it out.

— Dean Ayass, a longtime U.K. manager, and longtime reader of the Observer noted to us this:

Today at Premier Promotions in Worthing, I formally announced my retirement from wrestling management. I hadn’t been able to perform on shows since February 2020, due to the Covid pandemic and then as soon as the world returned to normal, I was diagnosed with chronic migraines and headaches, something I’m still affected by today (although less so, thanks to years worth of trial and error medication). I can no longer take any bumps or knocks to the head, and a heel manager has to get his comeuppance at some point, so the time was right to go.

I started managing in the FWA in 2001 with my old Hammerlock buddy Justin Richards, who remains one of my closest friends in or out of wrestling to this day. And I finished it working with ‘Amazon’ Ayesha Raymond, another good friend and someone closely associated with Justin. A nice way to bookend things.

I have so many fond memories of working with (or against), and learning from, absolute legends of this business like Terry Funk, Drew McDonald, Christopher Daniels, Doug Williams, the UK Pitbulls, Robbie Brookside, Stixx, Martin Stone, Jonny Storm….the list goes on and I’ve probably forgotten loads of people through my concussion addled poor memory. I’ve needed security escorts back to the dressing room, had rubbish thrown at me and even had a disgruntled fan punch me in the face on one occasion! It’s still real in Worthing….

Wrestling managing is a dying art. Done in the right way, with the right people, it’s a way of elevating individuals by taking the manager’s heat and transferring that to a lesser known wrestler, as well as giving the wrestler an extra dimension to their in-ring character.

I hope that this isn’t the end for me in wrestling completely. I’m hoping that I can get my life back on track soon, get back to normal, or a new kind of normal, and be in a position where I can still MC or commentate on the odd show here and there.”

— Wrestlecade posted a statement that somebody stole Jimmy Hart’s megaphone yesterday and they want it back. They noted there were surveillance cameras and police will see who did it.  They said the person who did can return it to them and Hart won’t press charges if it’s returned.  If it’s not returned, he will be forced to press charges.

— New Japan’s tag team tournament earlier today in Akita saw:

  • Shota Umino & Yuya Uemura beat Lance Archer & Alex Zayne
  • Yuto-Ice & Oskar b Great O’Khan & Callum Newman
  • Sanada & Ren Narita b David Finlay & Hiromu Takahashi
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi & El Phantasm b Zack Sabre Jr.  & Ryohei Oiwa

We’re midway through the tournament and these are the standings:

A block:

  • Shuji Ishikawa & El Desperado, Yota Tsuji & Gabe Kidd and Evil & Don Fale 3-1
  • Oleg Boltin & Toru Yano, Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hahis and Drilla Moloney & Shingo Takagi 2-2
  • Satoshi Kojima & Taichi 1-3
  • Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi 0-4

B block:

  • Sanada & Ren Narita 3-1
  • Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa, David Finlay & Hiromu Takahashi, Lance Archer & Alex Zayne, Yuya Uemura & Shota Umino, Great O’Khan & Callum Newman and Yori-Ice & Oskar 2-2
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi & El Phantasmo 1-3

They are back on Tuesday in Yamanashi with an A block show with Yano & Boltin vs. Yujiro & Owens, Goto & Yoshi-Hashi vs. Evil & Fale, Ishikawa & Desperado vs Tsuji & Kidd and Kojima & Taichi vs Takagi & Moloney.

— For Google searches this weekend, Survivor Series was No 18 with 275,000 searches, which is above average for a WWE show. As far as individuals, Austin Theory was No. 108 and Liv Morgan was No. 110 with 20,000.  Lash Legend and Charlotte Flair were No. 177 and No. 182 with 10,000. A surprise is that Real American Freestyle, which had their show last night in Chicago, was No. 297.

— Michael Chandler beat Chad Mendes in last night’s RAF main event. Chandler then issued a challenge to Jordan Burroughs. They also announced Yoel Romero vs. Bo Nickal. If it was Romero from 20 years ago, Nickal would have a lot of trouble.  Today, it is a mismatch.

— Update on the All Japan tournament:

A block:

  • Go Shiozaki & Shotar Ashino and Talos & Ren Yabe 6 points
  • Hidei Suzuki & Kengo Mashimo 4 points
  • Hokuto Omori &Kuma Arashi and  Musashi & Seiki Yoshika 2 points’
  • Hikaru Sato & Dan Tamura 0 points

B block:

  • Xyon & Odyssey (former WWE wrestlers Xyon Quinn & Odyssey Jones) 8 points
  • Kento Miyahara & Davey Boy Smith Jr, Ryuki Honda & Naoya Nomura and Atsuko Aoyagi & Rising Hayato 4 points
  • Taashi & Kuroshio Tokyo Japan 2 points
  • Yuma Aoyagi & Yuma Anzai 0 points, forfeiting all remaining matches due to Aoyagi’s suspension
  • Konosuke Takeshita beat Japanese MMA legend Shinya Aoki in  a singles match today on the DDT show at Korakuen Hall.

— Today would have been the 85th birthday of Pittsburgh star Jumping Johnny DeFazio, the 75th birthday of Bad Bad Leroy Brown, the 67th birthday of Tom Zenk, the 63rd birthday of Jimmy Del Ray and the 60th birthday of Bart Sawyer. It is the 62nd birthday of Keiichi Yamada aka Jushin Liger, the 52nd birthday of Jason Reso aka Christian Cage and the 38th birthday of Trinity Fatu aka Naomi. (thanks to Tony Richards)

It hardly seems to me like 23 years since the death of Hall of Fame candidate Tim “Mr. Wrestling” Woods. We would have that in the issue 23 years ago in our archives.  Woods was one of the best technical wrestlers and a major star from the mid-60s until his retirement in the early 80s. I remember his matches with Jack Brisco, Gene Kiniski, Dory Funk Jr, Ric Flair, Johnny Valentine and the other elite stars of that period. At one point he was the biggest babyface in Georgia. He and Harley Race drew the first ever pro wrestling sellout at the Omni of 16,500 fans in 1973. This was actually billed as Funk Jr. vs. Mr. Wrestling coming off a landmark finish in their prior match where at the 48:00 mark, the ring broke and Mr. Wrestling was injured and couldn’t continue.

Mr. Wrestling vowed to not just unmask if he lost, but he would unmask when the match started and would wrestle without a mask for the first time in Atlanta. Fans thought a world title change was probable, figuring why else would he unmask before the match, because of the idea that the NWA would never have a masked man as world champion. It worked. However, a few days before the match, Harley Race beat Funk Jr, and it was Race’s first title defense in Atlanta and one of the biggest of his career. They went to a 60:00 draw with Race asleep just as the bell rang.

Another Tim Woods story few knew about was in 1957, he was going to cut to 174 pounds in the AAU national championships because he wanted to wrestle Danny Hodge was the best wrestler in any weight in the country and probably the world at the time. It was the opposite of most of the 174 pounders who moved to 191 with the idea they had no chance at 174 and Woodin (his real last name) took it as a challenge. However, Hodge had already started his pro boxing training and didn’t compete in the tournament.  When Woods found out, he stayed at 191, his best weight, and won his second national title.

— Tom Aspinall’s eye has not come close to recovering  as he still can’t train or even drive at this point.  It was one of the ugliest and more ignorant fan responses with the idea that she should have continued even though he couldn’t see in his fight with Cyril Gane.

— Defy runs 12/27 in Seattle at Washington Hall and 12/28 in Los Angeles at The Lodge Room.

— Kirk White’s Big Time Wrestling has sold out its 12/5 show at the Newark, CA Pavilion. The main event is Killer Kross & Scarlett Bordeaux vs. Toa Liona & Harley Cameron, Alan Angels vs. Starboy Charlie with the winner facing QT Marshall, Shane Haste vs Aaron Solo and more.

  • Harley Cameron spoke to TV Insider about how important her program with Mercedes Mone was to her career:
    • I think working with Mercedes was such an important part of my career growth because when you have the opportunity to work with one of the greats. Obviously, there are a lot of eyes on the individual who has credibility and star power. It was an amazing position and opportunity for me. I definitely think it allowed me the screen time to show my performance ability in entertaining, which is where I had the experience in. She pushed me more to prove something in the ring and it definitely gave me that fire that made me think I needed to level up and work harder. I credit her massively to my growth. I think this year without that opportunity, I wouldn’t have had the year I had. Which has been a fantastic one.
  • Camron credited Nigel McGuinness, Orange Cassidy, Shawn Spears, and Tyler Breeze for helping her train:
    • I think I got put into a very good position with very little experience, so it’s important for me to put the work in. I want to make sure to show I deserve to be there. A lot of people have been really gracious with their time. I definitely want to thank especially Nigel McGuinness. He is someone who trains with me almost every morning before work. Orange Cassidy, I’ve been training with him a lot too. When I’m home, I’ll train with Tyler Breeze and Shawn Spears. I definitely try to train whenever I can because I know if anything doesn’t go to plan, I can look back and say, ‘I’m doing everything I can.’ I’m still learning as I’m going on TV. It’s a lot of work when you’re on TV, so I feel the expectation is high. I want to make sure I put the work in.
  • AEW’s YouTube channel posted the full Kenny Omega vs. PAC match from the 2019 Thanksgiving Eve edition of Dynamite.
  • Ricky Morton of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express shared that he’s recovering from walking pneumonia: “I’ve been fighting walking pneumonia for the past two weeks, and man… it has absolutely kicked my ass. Even a walk to the mailbox has felt like a full-on marathon. Taking it day by day, keeping my faith strong, and trusting this bounce-back is coming.”

Monday Update

–Bryan and I are back tonight covering all the wrestling news including Raw, Continental Classic, and the rest of the stuff covered here.

–We still have our biggest issue of the year, the annual Hall of Fame issue with lots of history and bios including a look at Raul Paolo, one of the greatest athletes in pro wrestling history who became the promoter that really made the business in France, and the other new inductees for 2025 like Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Gran Hamada, Dorrell Dixon,  Spyros Arion, Sabu and Bobby Bruns and complete balloting results, what wrestlers did the best in different categories of voting including past wrestlers and industry pros, current wrestlers and industry pros as well as reporters and historians.

–We are looking for your thoughts on AEW Full Gear.   You can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

–A Go Fund Me has been started for Sandra Toffoloni.  That name may be familiar to many of you as she is the sister of Nancy Toffoloni Benoit, who was murdered by her husband in 2007.  Sandra is someone who was very outspoken and probably knew more about the Benoit situation and was very open and honest about it than anyone.  She did a ton of media and talked openly about her thoughts constantly while the ordeal went on and for years after as she tried to keep the memory of her  sister, who was her hero, alive.  Of late she has been living with a brain condition called aphasia that caused her to have a grand mal seizure, resulting in a flal that resulte din broken ribs, a fractured back and a compression skull fracture.  She’s been battling health issues for the past year which has resulted in financial issues due to medical bills and need for a wheelchair.  More about that is here.

–Raw tonight is from Oklahoma City as the final Raw before Survivor Series.  Roman Reigns will kick off the show.  All the War Games participants are scheduled meaning Brock Lesnar, AJ Lee, Cody  Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, plus build for Nikki Bella vs. Stephanie Vaquer and Dominik Mysterio vs. John Cena.   Cena won’t be there.  There will be a match for the advantage in the men’s War Games match plus Cena tournament matches with Gunther vs. Carmelo Hayes and Solo Sikoa vs. Penta.  The men’s advantage match will be Usos  vs. Paul & McIntyre and will be the main event on tonight’s show, which should end in a wild War Games brawl.  They had 9,000 tickets out earlier today so it will be another big house but not a sellout.

–For Survivor Series, they’ve announced a two hour pre-game show starting at 5 p.m. and the four match card starts at 7 p.m..  It has more than 34,000 tickets out so it should be sold out.  Pau l Heyman and Nikki Bella will be doing ESPN studio talk shows on Wednesday with Bella on Get Up and Heyman on First Take.  Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will be on Vibe Check on Friday at 5 p.m. on disney +

–AEW will be announcing the brackets at 10 p.m. Eastern tonight on a streaming special on the AEW X account.

–I’ve just gotten back home so aside from Full Gear and the main U.S. TV shows, I haven’t seen much international stuff besides Sareee vs. Chihiro Hashimoto from last week (if you like women’s wrestling, it’s very high level, excellent bout, not quite match of the year but a top tier bout).  I’ve had tons of people recommend the stuff from Mexico, with the bouts you’d expect to be great delivering, notably Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey vs. Mascara Dorada & Neon and Mistico & Komander vs. Mortos & Cavernario from Friday night at Arena Mexico, and Dorada vs. Komander for the historic welterweight title from last night at Arena Mexico.  The Gran Guerrero CMLL heavyweight title defense against Mortos was also said to be really good.  The AEW talent didn’t win any titles.

—The Leyenda de Azul finals are Friday which will be a three-way with Mistico vs. Soberano Jr. vs. Cavernario, who each won Ciberneticos earlier this week to qualify.

–The funeral for legendary announcer Bob Caudle takes place tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC.  The church is at 1800 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.  Fans are welcome.

–Apollo Crews returned to action after surgery to repair a torn pec on Saturday night’s AAA show at Juan de la Barrera Gym in Mexico City, beatring Lince Dorado.  Ethan Page & Chelsea Green retained the mixed tag titles over Mr. iguana & Lola Vice..  Dominik Mysterio & Grande Americano won the main event over El Hijo del Vikingo & Dragon Lee when  Vikingo turned on Lee.  After the match Dominik put out an open challenge to face them and as expected, Penta & Fenix as the Lucha Bros answered so they will team up for the first time in months on 12/20 in Guadalajara.

–That show will be the next major AAA show with that tag match on top.  Dominik & Grande are now billing themselves as Gringo Locos 2.0, after the tag team of Eddy Guerrero & Love Machine in the early 90s .  Lee vs. Vikingo, which should be great, plus El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Ethan Page for the Latin American title which they’ve been building for months, Dave the Clown & Murder Clown & Pagano & Psycho Clown vs. Dexter Lumis & Erick Rowan & Joe Gacy & Uncle Howdy and a three-way for the cruiserweight title with Laredo Kid defending against Je’Von Evans and someone to be determined.  One would think Evans should win here.  Rey Mysterio is also scheduled for the show.—Megan Bayne was back for Stardom’s show today in Iwaki teaming with Hanako to go 5-0 in the tag team tournament with a win over AZM  & Miyu Amasaki.  They are in first place in the Blue block over Saya Iida & Bea Priestley who have four wins.  The Red block currently has Natsuko Tora & Ruaka and Natsupoi & Saori Anou in first place with four wins while Yuna Mizumori & Mei Seira and Teotleco & Osita (Hazuki & Koguma) have three wins and a draw.

–The New Japan tag team tournament was in Machida today with an A block show.  Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hashi beat Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens.  Toru Yano & Oleg Boltin beat Taichi & Satoshi Kojima.  EL Desperado & Shuji Ishikawa beat Shingto Takagi & Drilla Moloney when Ishikawa pinned Moloney and Yota Tsuji & Gabe Kidd beat Evil & Don Fale in the main event.  Yano & Boltin now have 4 points  while all the other teams have two points except Owens & Takahashi who have zero points.

–Ariel Helwani said that Kayla Harrison vs. Amanda Nunes for the women’s bantamweight title is the frontrunner to be the main event of the first major UFC show in January on Paramount +.  This would be the biggest possible women’s fight in the sport right now.

–Gable Steveson had his second MMA fight last night in Albuquerque, beating Kevin Hein in 24 seconds.  Because of his gold medal and quick wins, people are wanting him in the big time UFC spotlight immediately but he needs some tests.  The three fights he’s had were not tests.  There is still a lot to learn but he could not have looked better so far.  He knocked out Hein with a left that he was only using to open up for the takedown and Hein was already out before being taken down.

–Another major story is the best heavyweight kickboxer of the modern era, Rico Verhoeven, vacated his Glory heavyweight title that he’s held for 13 years and there is at least talk of him going to UFC.

–Velvet McIntyre turns 63 today.  Beth Phoenix turns 45.  Anthony Ogogo turns 37.  One of the greatest college heavyweights of all-time who later became NWA champion, Dick  Hutton, passed away 22 years ago today (thanks to Tony Richards).

–MLW featherweight champion Shoko Nakajima derfends on 12/13 in Bangkok, Thailand against Alexis Lee.  This will be on a TJPW show in Bangkok.  Lee wrestles for Singapore Pro Wrestling.

–Isaac Johnson, 31, of Chicago, died from injuries in a Muay Thai fight on an MMA show at Cicero Stadium in Chicago Friday night.  The show was promoted by Matador Fighter Challenge.  There is an investigation going on.  Johnson collapsed toward the end of his Muay Thai heavyweight fight and was rushed to the hospital and passed away at 12:03 a.m.

–Defy results from Friday night at Washington Hall in Seattle  Travis Williams b Jack Evnas, Steven Borden Jr. (Sting’s son) b Kiran Grey, Amira & Liiza Hall b Danika Della Rouge & Anna Baretta, Bryan Keith NC  Cocy Chhun to retain the Defy title, Evan Rivers & Griffin McCoy b Randy Myers & Matt Brannigan, VertVixen NC Rebel Kel, Mad Dog Connelly b Judas Icarus, Vincent & Dutch of The Righteous b Midnight Heat.   They return 12/27 to Washington Hall in Seattle and have a show on 12/28 in Highland Park, CA at the Lodge Room.

–Tomorrow will be the 40th anniversary of the original Vince McMahon screw job where Spider Lady, Moolah under the mask, won the women’s title from Wendi Richter without Richter being told the finish.  Richter had asked for her lawyer to look over a contract offer and in those days McMahon took that as an insult and had the ref fast count her.

–Jamie Hayter and Emi Sakura will be on the Pro Wrestling Eve show on 12/3 at the Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, London, UK.

Other Wrestling

  • Orange Cassidy and Mark Briscoe spoke to the Greensboro crowd last night after their team won Blood and Guts.
  • While speaking with Adventure Gamers, MVP was asked how different it is working with Tony Khan compared to Vince McMahon and Paul “Triple H” Levesque:
    • It’s very different because Tony Khan is a completely different human being, with a completely different personality. He’s just a nice guy and a good person. I’ve never had any kind of a relationship with Triple H. Vince I was able to work with and with Vince, Vince knows exactly what he wants, how he wants to do it, and if you can present something that is better, sometimes Vince will listen, but when Vince has a vision, that’s it. You go with it. There’s no second guessing it. Tony Khan is a lot more interactive and will take in a lot more ideas and he’s more willing to be pliable when it comes to his vision and how he wants to present it and what he’s willing to do to add to it or to change it. He’s just a nice guy. It’s funny, like his energy level. He’s always happy and I’ve never seen him be mean to somebody. It’s a much different environment where WWE was very corporate, very tight laced, for some people even uncomfortable and they’re made to feel like they’re walking on eggshells and people are scared of getting fired. That environment doesn’t exist in AEW. It’s way more relaxed. No one’s walking on eggshells. The boss has time for everybody. And it’s super fun. No stress.
  • Agreeing with a statement Bret Hart had made calling Triple H a “phony,” MVP told Adventure Gamers:
    • Man, I agree with Brett’s assertion. I’ve said before, I call [Triple H] a coward and a liar. Let’s put it like this. If you really want to, you can go to YouTube and you can look up the interviews of various wrestlers through the years of what their opinion is of the man. Interviews of guys that were his friends, what they had to say about the guy. I can think of more guys that dislike him than I can think of guys that do like him. And people say MVP’s salty or bitter. Like, no, I have personal issues with the dude, stemming from professional stuff, but just the things that he does, how he carries himself, I just don’t have respect for the guy. The newer generation, they don’t know that guy yet. So the one of those that came up underneath him in NXT, they think he’s brilliant and a lot of them should for the hand he’s had in their career. But the guys that had to work with him back in the day will tell you a different story almost overwhelmingly. And so it’s not just me saying it. There’s guys who are way up the totem pole than me that are telling you that this guy’s no bueno.
  • Dustin Rhodes shared a new update on how he’s feeling as he recovers from the double knee replacement he underwent in August:
    • Knee replacements update:
    • We are just under 3 months out. I am still in a considerable amount of pain especially in mornings. I am 56 yrs old and it is taking a lot longer for recovery guys. The hardest thing for me at this moment, is getting up from a chair, and stepping down a step with right especially. My legs have always been pretty thin and cannot wait to actually strengthen them more on e I am able. I am on track for my age and then some and I would assume its because I have a strong work ethic and an athlete. Prob late Feb, early March for the greatest comeback of anyone in their 50’s.
  • Preston Vance and Griff Garrison appeared on a new episode of AEW Unrestricted.
  • Mustafa Ali told SEScoops that he would like to see TNA experiment with some outside-the-box ideas:
    • I’m going to show up to work and see what is asked to do and go do it. What I’d like to see from TNA, and this is just my controversial take, but they are in a position where they can be different. They don’t have to follow the formula. I think one of the coolest things about TNA was the six-sided ring, which was the X-Division. What I’m trying to say is I want TNA to go back to that experimental phase where we’re just trying these wacky ideas. At the end of the day, you can’t argue with the business model right now. Sold-out shows, potential network deals, and things like that. I also remember a time where I’d look out at TNA and see maybe a couple hundred people. At Bound for Glory, I looked out and saw a couple of thousands.
    • It’s a beautiful thing, but whatever TNA is doing, I think they are doing things right. They have their eyes on young talent. They have tryouts coming up. It’s a great mixture of these talented veterans, then like the middle child are trying to figure out their journey and [there are] brand-new people coming in. It’s a beautiful locker room, a great team to work with. Production just keeps getting better and better with each show. There is a lot of experimentation going on. I think at Bound for Glory we had our first 4K camera for the entrance, so there were some unbelievable shots coming out. I’m just really excited, but if you asked me, selfishly I’d just like to see them experiment more with wild concept matches because we are in a position I feel we can do it. I think that would attract even more wrestling fans toward our product.
  • Vince Russo is writing a book about his time working for TNA. Titled “Total Nonstop Agony: The Rise and Fall of TNA,” it’s scheduled for a summer 2026 release.

Monday Update

AEW blood and guts

–Bryan and I will be back tonight talking about Raw as well as the latest pro wrestling news.

–This upcoming issue of the Observer will have an amazing history piece.  That’s all I’ll say.  It’s stuff rarely talked about but covers history in a country where it was huge in its  day.  It’s the Hall of Fame issue and I’ve been buried in it.  There are many several new entrants voted in this year.

–John Cena’s next to last Raw has sold out the TD Garden in Boston with more than 16,200 fans.  Cena will open the show.  He’s not announced for a match but many expect one.  For sure we’ll start the direction for his Survivor Series match as well as the start of the tournament for a match with him with Sheamus vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Damian Priest vs. Ruswev.  Also on the show is Stephanie Vaquer vs. Raquel Rodriguez  for the women’s world title, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss vs. Kabuki Warriors for the WWE women’s tag team titles and CM Punk appears.  Cody Rhodes, Nia Jax and Lash Legend are also in town.  They are continuing to set up the War Games teams.

–The two Blood & Guts matches have 4,444 tickets out at this point for AEW in Greensboro on Wednesday.  By AEW standards for TV, it’s a good number but I’d hardly call it a great number.  If they hit 5,500 I guess we should call it a success.

–Former UFC fighter Godofredo Pepey was found dead in a Florida prison at the age of 38.  It was believed to be from suidice.  He had been arrested in June and accused of domestic violence toward his wife, Samara Mello.  He was in prison on charges of kidnapping,  domestic violence by strangulation, battery and witness tampering.Pepey fought in UFC from 2012 to 2018, with 11 fights before being released.  He continued to fight through 2022.

–This is no surprise after signing the $1.1 billion a year deal, but  Paramount+ sent a letter to investors saying that they will be increasing prices in early 2026.  They did not say what the new price would be but that the money would be used for continued investment in a stronger slate of programming this year and beyond.  They also pushed that all UFC shows will be on the service without a PPV price, claiming they will be delivering an exception a value for the cost of a subscription, noting the $59.99 annual price (which will be raised) is more than UFC fans had to pay for just one PPV show this year.

–Galeno del Mal has signed with WWE for AAA.  On Friday’s Crash show in Tijuana, Galeno del Mal & brother El Hijo de Dr. Wagenr Jr., said that with both being signed with WWE, they wouldn’t be able to wrestle and were vacating their Crash tag team titles.  Then they ended up wrestling on the show.  Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows won the vacant belts in a three-way beating D-Luxe & Pierroth.    Andrade was announced for the show and he was there for the meet and greet but ended up not wrestling or appearing at the show.  Zona Ruda said that they were told he left the building upset about something.  Andrade’s non-compete for one year is only for the U.S.

–11/18 will be Eddy Guerrero Day in E Pasto, TX.  The City Council will hold a proclamation ceremony to honor his life, legacy and impact at City Hall at 9 a.m.  Fans who wish to attend are encourage to wear wrestling costumes or luchador masks.  It will air live on the City  of El Paso social media accounts.

–Soberano Jr. has only been back for a few days and they’re already starting something with Mistico.  On last night’s Arena Mexico show,  Soberano unmasked in a trios match teaming with Volador Jr. & Averno, threw it at Mistico, the ref saw it and DQ’d Mistico & Neon & Esfinge.  Mistco wanted Soberano in a singles match this week.  I don’t see it happening this week and it’s too early and shouldn’t be on a Sunday.  Mistico & Titan face Barboza & Difunto tomorrow night at Arena Mexico.

–Gisele Shaw was announced for the 12/3 NWA Powerrr tapings at Tampa’s WEDU PBS Studios.

–The film “Traphouse” with Dave Bautista will be released at selected theaters on Friday.  It’s about an undercover DEA agent and his partner finding out  their teenage children are using top secret tactics and intelligence to steal from a dangerous cartel.

–Indi Hartwell vs. Dani Luna has been added to Thursday’s Impact TV show.

–Templario vs. Geurrer Maya Jr. for the MLW middleweight title has been added to the 11/20 MLW Don Gato show in Charleston, SC.

–Valerien Wybndham aka SoCal Val announced today she has joined the Playboy Club as a model and content creator.  She promised fun flirty photo shoots, video updates and behind the scenes looks from her shoots

–Bob Orton Jr. turned 75 today.  Josh Barnett turned 48.  Katie Lee Burchill turned 45.  Ryback turned 44. Peyton Royce aka Cassie Lee turned 33.  Dick the Bruiser passed away 34 year ago today at the age of 62.  Killer Karl Kox passed away 14 years ago today at the age of  80 (thanks to Tony Richards).

–WWE is doing a crossover with Tekken today.  Players can unlock legendary fighters from Tekken in Scopely’s WWE Champions from now through 11/21.

–Ryan Bader, fresh off  “The Smashing Machine,” where he got strong reviews playing Mark Coleman, was announced for the annual Rizin New Year’s Eve show at the Saitama Super Arena.  He will face Aleksandr Soldatkin to crown their vacant heavyweight championship.  Bader hasn’t fought since February 2024.

Friday Update

–Garrett Gonzales and I will be back doing our week in review show later today.  Our weekend show with Bryan Alvarez will be on Sunday night this week.

–The Hall of Fame issue of the Observer will be out this coming Friday morning.  It is usually our most talked about issue of the year.

–Ben Askren returned to wrestling practice today.  That’s the lead story of the day.

–The city of Las Vegas has approved $6 million for WWE for two nights of WrestleMania, Raw, Smackdown, NXT Stand & Deliver, WWE World and  the Hall of Fame ceremony as well as a variety of community outreach events.

–Luke Menzies, the former Ridge Holland, put out a video today on his sutation with WWE at
(thanks to Stephen Lyon)

–Japanese comedian and YouTuber Fuwa-Chan (Haruka Fuwa, 31). whose celebrity match on a 2022 Stardom show was a big deal, announced earlier today that she would be returning to Stardom later this year.  Her tweet announcing her return had 21 million views the last I checked.  She said she’s going full-time into pro wrestling and is back on the 12/29 show at  Sumo Hall.

–The movie on woman’s boxing pioneer Christy Martin, starring Sydney Sweeney, who is not exactly the person you would expect to play such a role, debuts tonight at theaters.

–Smackdown is tonight in Greenville, SC, with Giulia vs. Chelsea Green for the U.S. titel, Ilja Dragunov’s open challenge for the other U.S. title, Charlotte Flair vs. Nia Jax, Talla Tonga vs. Rey Fenix and more.  There are currently 6,650 tickets out for the show.  There’s nothing  wrong with that number but the peak of the boom is past, even though big shows will do well for a while.

Great story on Frank Shamrock

–The mystery tag team partner for Hanako in the Stardom Goddesses tag team tournament was Megan Bayne of AEW.  So she will be flying to and from Japan several times over the next few weeks for tag team tournaments in both countries.  I don’t know that anyone has done that one in the past.  She returned at Korakuen Hall today as a surprise teaming with Hanak & Waka Tsukiyama & Rian vs. Bozilla & Ami Sohrei & Lady C & Akira Kurogane.  The focus was her against Bozilla.  On Sunday, she and Hanako face Sohrei & C in their first tag  team tournament match.  She’ll return to the U.S. and be back in Japan on the 15th, with the team facing Rina & Konami.  A week from Sunday they’ll face Bea Priestley & Saya Iida.  She then comes back to the U.S. and will be back in Japan on the 24th.  So she can work Full Gear on the 22nd.  The round robin ends the 28th in Kyoto  and the semifinals are the 29th in Osaka and finals are the 30th in Hamamatsu.  I can’t come up with one case previously where someone was in a major tag team tournament in Japan and flew home and back for big shows.  The Funks, Bruiser Brody, The Sheik, Hulk Hogan and other huge stars never did that as far as I can recall.

–Austin Aries and TJP are in Mexico for CMLL this weekend.  Atlantis Jr. & Titan face Angel de Oro & Soberano Jr. at Arena Mexico tonight.  Aries faces Mascara Dorada in a lightning match that will be an interesting test for both guys, and TJP & Templario & Esfinge face Volador Jr. & Rugido & Vegas Depredador.  On Saturday night at Arena Coliseo, TJP & Templaro face Volador Jr. & Aries while Dorada & Capitan Suicida face Barboza & Difunto.  On Sunday at Arena Mexico It’s Aries vs. Dark Panther vs. Rugido, TJP & Templario vs. Angel de Oro & Barbaro Cavernario and Mistico & Neon & Esfinge vs Averno & Volador Jr & Soberano Jr.  TJP will also be in Puebla on Monday teaming with  Templario & Dorada against Difunto & Soberano Jr & Volador Jr.  TJP is also working in Guadalajara Tuesday in a singles match with Avenro.  They have a loaded for Guadalajara show with Soberano Jr.’s return and feud with Atantis Jr. as its Atlantis Jr. & Dorada & Templario vs. Soberano Jr & Ultimo Guerrero & Volador Jr.
–Mistico isn’t on the show tonight as he’s wrestling in Los Mochis, in Sinaloa with a main event of Mistico & Neon vs. Difunto & Euforia.

–Lola Vice has been added to the 11/28 AAA TV  taping in Puebla teaming with Faby Apache against La Hiedra & Flammer.

–Hiroshi Tanahasi worked today’s Freedom show in Tokorozawa.  Tanashi & Jun kasai beat Toru  Sugiura & Tomoya Hirata in the main event.

—Konosuke Takeshita is still in Japan.  He worked yesterday’s DDT show at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo beating Antonio Honda.

–The UFC show tomorrow I’ve seen a lot of contradictions as far as where it is airing.  According to ESPN, the period from 4-7 p.m. Eastern will be only on ESPN+ and 7 p.m. on will be on ESPN and ESPN+.  If that is the case, and we’ve seen other listings different but I’ll go with the ESPN listing, it would be the first UFC on ESPN since the change in ratings and that will make this number very  interesting to monitor.
Zachary Reese (194) vs. Jacson McVey (193.5)
Miles Johns (135.5) vs. Daniel Marcos (136)
Tecia Pennington (114.5) vs. Denise Gomes (115)
Josh Hokit (236) vs. Max Gimenis (256.5)
Mayra Bueno Silva (135.5) vs. Jacqueline Cavalcanti (135.5)
Ricky Simon (135.5) vs. Raoni Barcelos (136)
Hyder Amil (145.5) vs. Jamall Emmers (145)
Christian Leroy Duncan (185) vs. Marco Tulio (185.5)
Chris Padilla (155) vs. Israel Bonfim (161)  – Bonfim missed weight by five pounds and was fined 25 percent of his purse
Musli Salikhov (171) vs. Uros Medic (171)
Matt Schnell (126) vs. Joseph Morales (125)
Gabriel Bonfim (170.5) vs. Randy Brown (171)

–A correction in today’s issue regarding Otto Wanz.  We listed him as the promoter and top star in Austria and Germany in the 70s and 80s.  It’s actually late 80s and 90s.  Wanz only promoted in Graz prior to 1987 when he and Peter William became the dominant promotion in those countries with their CWA promotion. (thanks to Phil Lions)

–King Kong Bundy would have been 68 today.  Tony Schiavone is 68 today.  Takako Inoue turned 56 today.  Hall of Fame candidate Joe Higuchi, considered by many as the greatest pro wrestler referee of all-time, died 15 years ago today at 81. (thanks to Tony Richards).

–Aileen Eaton, the first prominent woman pro wrestling promoter and a boxing promoter who is in the boxing Hall of Fame, passed away 38 years ago today.  Eaton was the mother of Gene and Mike LeBell.  Gene was a national judo champion who was considered one of the all-time tough guys in pro wrestling history.  Mike was the promoter of the Southern California territory during huge years in the 60s and early 70s, and its major decline in the late 70s.
–Mike Tyson did an interview with Hard Rock Bet.  He said he wants a rematch with Jake Paul, saying he lost because he was in bad health.  How was that fight ever even allowed after his health issue?  He said he is fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. in March or April

–Sukeban, the Japanese women’s wrestling promotion, has announced a 12/3 show in Miami during Art Basel.

–GCW tonight in Hartford, CT has Effy vs. Shotzi, Bear Bronson vs. Ciclope, Danhausen vs. Priscilla Kelly, Kerry Morton vs. Maki Itoh and more.

Thursday Update

WWE

  • Brodie Lee Jr. shared a photo with John Cena from last night’s wrestling training session at Natalya and TJ Wilson’s Dungeon.
  • Wilson (Tyson Kidd) posted a tweet thanking Cena for his visit:
    • John, I can’t thank you enough!! For coming through and being completely selfless with both your time and information. Best part of all-it was you that wanted to come and do that on your own accord. Says a lot about you. John Cena is truly one of a kind
  • WWE Vault uploaded a 51-minute found footage video with moments from Cena’s career.
  • Natalya’s new book “The Last Hart Beating” ranked eighth in the Canadian non-fiction section in the latest Toronto Star bestsellers list:
    • HONORED. Completely blown away by how much everyone is connecting with my book, The Last Hart Beating. It’s never easy putting your heart out there, but if my story can be a tool in someone else’s handbook of survival, it’s all worth it.
  • Bayley acknowledged the 20th anniversary of women’s wrestling promotion Shimmer holding its first show:
    • HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO @shimmerwomen
    • You changed the trajectory of women’s wrestling. You changed my life. And I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. I think that’s safe to say for a lot of us. The bond we all share from those weekends will last forever!
    • Thank you @serenadeeb, @theallisondanger, Scream Queen Daffney, thank you Canadian Ninjas, and thank you Dave Prazak for trusting me. ANNNDDDD I HOPE YOU HAVE THE HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Maxxine Dupri discussed how much she’s learned from Chad Gable:
    • Oh my gosh, so much. He’s actually someone – kind of what I was saying earlier, he’s a man of few words. So when he tells me something, I take it to heart, because he’s someone that can look at something creatively. Just the business, the mind he has for this business, he’s just able to zoom out and see everything and give me these pointers that I’m like, duh, why didn’t I think of that? But I would never, and he sees it so clearly. So I go to him a lot for things like that, because when it comes to matches and just his ability to understand this business, [it] truly is out of this world.
  • Dupri explained that, when Candice LeRae mentioned her deceased brother in a segment last year, it was Dupri’s idea for her to do so:
    • Yes, 100 percent. It was that line I said, as I was the originator of the idea. So I said, we had the layout of the match where she’s going to yell at me and I’m going to walk out of the ring. And I just felt like if you want me to walk out of the ring, give me a reason to walk out of the ring. To me, I didn’t look at it as a negative towards my brother or towards my situation. To me, it felt like a positive, I get to bring light to the fact that I have a brother. To me, it was: we’re gonna acknowledge someone that’s my whole world that passed away, whether she’s saying it in a negative way or positive way. To me, it was a positive. And I love Candice, she’s an angel, such a wonderful human, a wonderful mom. I don’t have anything bad to say about her.
  • Dupri said she did make a mistake by not letting her mother know in advance that her brother would be mentioned:
    • My mom was definitely emotional about it. But again, she wasn’t emotional that Candice said something. She just didn’t know that that was going to come up. But if I would have told her, she would feel the same way that I feel. But Mondays are crazy, you know, the day gets going, you’re busy. I forgot to give her a warning.
  • Joe Hendry will be working both of NXT’s house shows in Florida this weekend.
  • After the title was vacated by Kylie Rae, WWE ID will crown a new Women’s Champion on November 17: “BREAKING….The new WWE ID Women’s Champion will be crowned on Nov. 17th at @WrestlingOpenRI at Rhodes On Pawtuxet in Cranston, RI! Whoever wins the championship will be ID’d!!! More info to come!!!”
  • Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio appeared in a holiday ad for sports retailer Lids.
  • Boxer Claressa Shields was the guest on a new episode of “What’s Your Story?” with Stephanie McMahon.
  • Logan Paul uploaded a new vlog.
