AJ Francis makes case for TNA Slammiversary main event

TNA’s Slammiversary is less than four weeks away, and at this point, there is no main event. But one name on the roster thinks he should be challenging Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship on that show.

AJ Francis talked about Santana and Slammiversary in a conversation with pro wrestling/MMA interviewer Jim Varsallone.

“Me versus Mike Santana at Slammiversary for the world title would probably be one of the greatest matches in the history of TNA,” Francis said. “Me and Mike only ever had one other singles match and it was an instant classic, nominated for Match Of The Year—the only match that wasn’t a pay-per-view match that was nominated for Match Of The Year last year, might I add.”

Francis’ match against Santana was a street fight that aired on the episode of Impact that aired on June 26, 2025. TNA eventually named a Santana title defense against Mustafa Ali at Rebellion in April as its match of the year.

“To have that in my back pocket, to have that in the back of my mind, knowing that he went from that match with me to now being the world champion,” Francis added. “The fact that I’ve been putting on banger after banger after banger ever since and so has he—I genuinely think if you gave me and Mike Santana 25 minutes for the world title in the main event of Slammiversary, you would walk away from that thinking this is one of the best matches I’ve ever seen in my life and one of the greatest matches of all time.”

To date, Francis has only had one other shot at the TNA World Championship. He unsuccessfully challenged Nic Nemeth for the belt at Final Resolution in December of 2024.

TNA Slammiversary takes place Sunday, June 28, from the Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Two matches have been announced for the show: Lei Ying Lee defending the Knockouts Championship against Xia Brookside, and Cedric Alexander defending the X Division Championship against Leon Slater and two other wrestlers in an Ultimate X match. AJ Francis tells critics to ‘cut that victim bullsh*t out’ regarding TNA pulling talent

AJ Francis has a message for the critics, calling out TNA for pulling out their talents from matches against AEW wrestlers.

Just ahead of the WWE WrestleMania 42 weekend, multiple TNA talents were scheduled to face AEW wrestlers. However, at the last moment, those bouts were canceled and replaced by other matches.

While TNA President Carlos Silva received major backlash for this, multiple TNA talents spoke out defending the decision, including Matt Hardy and now AJ Francis.

On social media, Francis praised Silva’s recent explanation for pulling Leon Slater from his scheduled match against AEW’s Ricochet. When asked by a fan if Silva was wrong for pulling his talents, Francis replied:

No, because nobody had a problem w/ AEW not allowing Powerhouse Hobbs to lose to me at 4th Rope even though the next night in the SAME BUILDING I was in a SOLD OUT MAIN EVENT vs Nic Nemeth for the TNA WORLD TITLE… cut that victim bulls*it out. Every company protects interests,” Francis wrote.

Nic Nemeth’s TNA Rebellion opponent revealed

With over a week left for TNA Rebellion, the promotion has finally revealed and announced Nic Nemeth’s opponent.

Nemeth was recently ambushed backstage by a mystery attacker, following which he filmed a video and issued a challenge to whoever attacked him for a match at Rebellion.

On the April 2nd episode of TNA Impact, fans witnessed A.J. Francis admitting to being the one who attacked Nemeth backstage last week at TNA Sacrifice. Shortly after, it was confirmed that Nemeth would now face Francis in a singles match at the upcoming TNA Rebellion event.

Later in the show, fans saw Moose vs. Special Agent 0 as another match that got confirmed for TNA Rebellion.

BVV: A much improved episode of TNA Impact

The TNA Impact reviews on the Big Vinny V Show are back for another week and it’s a good thing, too, because this was the best episode in the AMC era.

The main event saw Moose and Cedric Alexander tear things up in an Atlanta street fight, but the show was stolen by a trios match pitting Order 4 against Trey Miguel, Rich Swann & BDE. We also had two other fun matches with The Hardys vs. Sinner & Saint, and AJ Francis vs. Elijah.

Mind you, there was plenty of stupid stuff too: the Steve Maclin storyline got even dumber, Santino is a horrible GM, and there was a completely incomprehensible Rosemary segment.

We’ll take in the good, the bad, and the ugly on the new Big Vinny V Show!

Update on AJ Francis’ TNA Wrestling contract

AJ Francis will be with TNA Wrestling through at least the end of this year.

It was announced today that Francis — previously known as Top Dolla in WWE — has re-signed with TNA. Skubie Mageza of ESPN reports that the deal is for the remainder of 2026. Francis is a former football player who attended the University of Maryland before joining the NFL with the Miami Dolphins in 2013. He spent time with several teams prior to his football career ending in 2018.

“Former Maryland Terrapin, and NFL Defensive Lineman, A.J. Francis has re-signed with TNA for the remainder of 2026,” Mageza tweeted. “He said a major reason behind his decision is the continued exposure and growth of the partnership between TNA & AMC.”

Francis was a member of the faction Hit Row during his two separate stints with WWE. He debuted for TNA in 2024, plays a heel in the promotion, and is a former Digital Media Champion.

TNA announced more contract news this week with it being confirmed that Steve Maclin has re-signed. The promotion’s next major event is Sacrifice 2026 on March 27, where Maclin is slated to challenge Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship.

BVV: TNA Impact with Rich Swann vs. AJ Francis

Impact had some highs and lows this week, but the street fight pitting the former members of Fir$t Cla$$ against each other was one of the peaks. Other highs included Nic Nemeth vs. BDE in a shockingly good match, plus Jason Hotch of Order 4 vs. Elijah.

As for the lows, we had Stacks vs. Home Town Man in a dull, repetitive angle disguised as a match; Elayna Black showing the flaws in WWE’s developmental system; and the idiotic fallout to the Feast or Fired match.

Oh, and a bunch of wacky backstage skits.

We’ll explain it all on the Big Vinny V Show!

Thursday Update

WWE

  • WrestleVotes reports that Charlotte Flair’s return is imminent and could happen as soon as this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event:
    • Sources indicate that Charlotte Flair’s return is imminent, with the possibility of it happening as soon as this weekend on NBC. We are told creative was tasked earlier this week with structuring the presentation of her return.
  • The Daily Mail asked Kevin Owens if his teenage son Owen’s interest in becoming a wrestler has grown since the last update:
    • No, there is still interest but I am not pushing him to do anything he shouldn’t be doing before it is too soon. I started training when I was 14, had my first match at 16, and while I feel pretty great for my age – I am 40 now and have been doing this for 25 years – I probably could have benefited from waiting a few years and starting my career a little later.
    • Obviously the circumstances are not the same for him as they were for me, I had no idea where to start and felt like time was against me at any point of my career because you are not getting any younger. You have got to get your name out there.
    • Now the way things have changed, I know some people that might be able to help him. He is focusing on his school and other stuff, when he really is ready to dive in head first, he has all the tools at his disposal, so I am not rushing him and he is not in a rush either. He is still growing from what I can tell I think, that’s not going away.
  • For a WWE Playback video, Rey Mysterio & Kurt Angle rewatched their handicap match from the March 18, 2006 episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event where they teamed with Randy Orton against Triple H & John Cena.
  • Paul “Triple H” Levesque appeared on the Roommates Show podcast with New York Knicks stars Jalen Brunson & Josh Hart.
  • Levesque tweeted the following: “Three weeks till #WWERaw on @netflix. Are you ready? First time ever. Our stars. Our fans. Open the doors to @WWE HQ. Next Wednesday. More to come…”
  • Diamond Dallas Page was the guest on today’s episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet.
  • Ring The Belle interviewed Trish Stratus & Lita.
  • Here’s the lineup for NXT Level Up on Peacock this Friday:
    • Oro Mensah vs. Niko Vance
    • Dani Palmer vs. Wendy Choo

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • AEW uploaded a post-Dynamite promo from Mariah May, along with promos from Claudio Castagnoli and Brody King.
  • A new vignette aired on Dynamite last night building up the return of Bandido.
  • In the 2024 Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, Adam Copeland received a nomination for his role as Ares in Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Copeland is among the nominees for Supporting Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program.
  • Hangman Page made a post on Bluesky seemingly referencing Logan Paul: “i hope the next person they give half my moveset to is at least kinda cool”
  • Shelton Benjamin was interviewed on AEW Unrestricted.
  • Great-O-Khan and Taichi revealed the stipulation options for their KOPW 2024 title match. It’s taking place at NJPW’s Road to Tokyo Dome show on Sunday, December 22 and will determine the official KOPW Champion for this year. Taichi said that, win or lose, this will be the last time he ever competes for the KOPW title.
  • AJ Francis (former WWE wrestler Top Dolla) spoke with NFL.com ahead of challenging Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship at Final Resolution this Friday:
    • Friday’s honestly the biggest moment of my career. It’s my first world title match. Some people wrestle for 20-30 years and never get a world title match on the caliber of TNA. As far as world titles in wrestling, there’s not many as prominent, as historic, as important as the TNA world title. So, to be given the opportunity to even be in a match for it, is an honor and a privilege.
  • Francis said he believes this will be the best match of his career:
    • It’s gonna be a crazy environment. And it’s gonna be, I’m calling it now, I think the best match of my career and I’m very much looking forward to proving to everyone who a year ago thought I was an afterthought, that I’m the first thought that you should have every time.
  • While Francis felt like a backup lineman in WWE, he tells NFL.com that he now feels like a star quarterback in TNA:
    • In WWE, I felt like I was like a backup O-lineman. They would use me when they needed me, but they didn’t really have a need for me. In TNA, I’m a quarterback. A Pro Bowl quarterback. A Super Bowl-contending quarterback.
  • Atlantis & Atlantis Jr. vs. Blue Panther & Dark Panther will take place at MLW Kings of Colosseum in North Richland Hills, Texas on Saturday, January 11.
  • ECW legend Sabu turns 60 years old today.
  • AEW wished happy birthday to The Butcher and Hologram.

AJ Francis to challenge for TNA World title at Final Resolution

AJ Francis challenging Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship is one of five new matches official for the December 13 Final Resolution special on TNA Plus.

Francis challenged Nemeth to a World title match for Final Resolution on Thursday’s TNA Impact, and authority figure Santino Marella made the bout official for December 13.

Three more title matches, plus a number one contender’s match are also official for Final Resolution.

Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich will defend her title against Tasha Steelz at Final Resolution in another new bout announced during Thursday’s Impact.

The rivalry between The System and The Hardys will also continue on December 13, with The Hsrdys defending the Tag Team titles against Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards in a tables match.

After winning a number one contender’s match on Impact, KUSHIDA is next in line to challenge Moose for the TNA X-Division Championship, and that match has also been added to Final Resolution.

Rounding out the new match announcements, a four-way will decide the next number one contender to the TNA World title, with Joe Hendry vs. Josh Alexander vs. Steve Maclin vs. Mike Santana.

The Final Resolution card for Friday, December 13:

  • TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth defends against AJ Francis
  • TNA Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich defends against Tasha Steelz
  • TNA Tag Team Champions The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy) defend against The System (Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards) in a tables match
  • TNA X-Division Champion Moose defends against KUSHIDA
  • TNA World title number one contender’s match: Joe Hendry vs. Mike Santana vs. Steve Maclin vs. Josh Alexander

AJ Francis wins Digital Media title on TNA Impact

The former Top Dolla has captured his first championship in TNA Wrestling, winning the Digital Media title on Thursday’s Impact.

AJ Francis defeated Laredo Kid on the Thursday, June 6 edition of TNA Impact to win the Digital Media Championship.

Laredo Kid was distracted by Francis’s First Class teammate Rich Swann at ringside, hitting a dive to Swann right before the finish. Francis benefitted from the distraction and hit something resembling a powerbomb to score the pinfall victory:

Laredo Kid had held the Digital Media title since defeating Crazzy Steve for the belt on the Countdown to Rebellion pre-show on April 20, and managed one successful defense of the title before dropping it to Francis.

The title change was taped on May 19.

Francis had two separate stints with WWE as Top Dolla in the Hit Row stable from 2020 to 2021 and again from 2022 to 2023, with both runs ending with him being released from his contract.

Our full report from Thursday’s TNA Impact episode is here. The show was the 20th anniversary edition of Impact.

8-4-1 match returning on next week’s TNA Impact

For the second time ever, the 8-4-1 match will return to TNA Wrestling as part of next Thursday’s Impact with the winner earning a future Knockouts title shot.

The match will begin as an eight-woman tag team bout. The winners will then compete in a fatal four-way where the victor will earn the shot against current champion Jordynne Grace (seen above), presumably at next month’s Rebellion pay-per-view. Grace successfully defended her title against Tasha Steelz on Thursday.

The competitors were not announced, but the match will take place this weekend in Philadelphia as part of two nights of TV tapings.

The initial 8-4-1 match debuted at last June’s Against All Odds and featured men.

Next Thursday’s show will also feature former TNA World Champion Josh Alexander in action. While his opponent was not announced, Alexander has been announced as facing Tracy Williams as part of this weekend’s tapings.

After former TNA World Champion Rich Swann recently turned on Joe Hendry and aligned with AJ Francis, the two will be on the show to talk about why they did what they did.

Here’s the current card:

  • 8-4-1 match where the winner earns a future Knockouts title shot
  • AJ Francis/Rich Swann promo
  • Josh Alexander in action

Top Dolla says botched spot on WWE SmackDown ‘saved my life’

Top Dolla says that his memorable “Flop Dolla” dive on SmackDown last year led to a revelation that saved his life.

AJ Francis, formerly known as Top Dolla in WWE, responded to a social media post on X memorializing the botched spot on the one-year anniversary of the event and says that because of it, he learned that was suffering from Type 2 diabetes.

Francis wrote:

The botch saved my life. I made that dive a dozen times before, legs felt off but I didn’t think about it. After I failed I went to the doc & found out I had Type II diabetes & my blood sugar was 626. I almost lost my life & was about to lose both feet. The botch saved my life.

Francis continued to discuss his health in subsequent replies to the post, noting that he currently does not require insulin injections, and speaking about the importance of proper medication:

I thankfully don’t need insulin and hopefully never will but that could also change any day

The blood sugar was taken like a month later when I couldn’t put weight back on so I got my blood tested to get approved for TRT… knowing how I track my sugar levels now, the night of the botch it was prolly 250-300 which is still terrible

Proper medication changes EVERYTHING

Yes now I’m on Metformin, Glyburide & Gemfibrozil twice a day with meals

I’m properly medicated. 330 lbs again and I look the best I’ve ever looked in my life…

Francis is a former NFL defensive lineman who originally signed with WWE in 2020. He made his in-ring WWE debut on the NXT brand in May 2021 as part of the Hit Row stable. Hit Row was called up to the SmackDown brand in October 2021, but Francis, Ashante “Thee” Adonis, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, and B-Fab were released by the company in November 2021.

Francis, Adonis, and B-Fab were re-signed in August 2022 and returned to the company on the SmackDown brand as Hit Row. Francis would again be released by the company in September 2023. Adonis & B-Fab remain signed to WWE, while Swerve has since joined AEW as Swerve Strickland.

Francis has announced that he will be taking independent bookings beginning on January 1, 2024, and has already been announced for GCW’s Look at Me on January 26, 2024.

Report: WWE bringing back two released Hit Row members

WWE is planning to bring back two members of the Hit Row group, according to a report.

PW Insider reports that AJ “Top Dolla” Francis and Ashonte “Thee” Adonis are planned to be at Friday’s SmackDown taping in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Top Dolla and Ashonte Adonis would be the latest WWE talent released by the former regime to be brought back by new executive vice president of talent relations Paul “Triple H” Levesque, joining Dakota Kai, Karrion Kross, Scarlett, and Dexter Lumis.

As part of the Hit Row stable, Top Dolla and Ashonte Adonis were drafted to SmackDown in the WWE Draft along with B-Fab and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott on October 1, 2021. B-Fab was released by the company on November 4, 2021, while Top Dolla, Adonis, and Scott were released on November 18, 2021.

Prior to their main roster call-up, Hit Row operated as a stable in NXT, debuting as a foursome in May 2021.

Scott has since signed with AEW and is one half of the company’s World Tag Team Champions, along with Keith Lee.

AJ Francis says he’s had ‘very good conversations’ with Impact Wrestling

AJ Francis (FKA Top Dolla) says he’s had discussions with Impact Wrestling.

During a conversation with Sportskeeda, Francis revealed he spoke with representatives of the company over WrestleMania weekend.

“Nobody knows this but we did WrestleCon at WrestleMania and Impact was at that hotel and I’m just saying that there was very good conversations had,” he said.

“There’s still things that need to be looked at and worked out and a lot of discussions that still need to be had but The Hit Makers were in the building.”

Francis signed with WWE in January of 2020. He wouldn’t have his first match in the promotion until the May 18, 2021 edition of NXT. Along with the other members of Hit Row, he was called up to the main roster that October. He made his Smackdown debut on October 22, 2021 when he teamed with Isaiah Scott and defeated Daniel Williams & Dustin Lawyer. WWE would release him and the rest of the stable the following month.

Hit Row to reunite at MCW Pro Wrestling event

The group formerly known as Hit Row are set to reunite at an independent wrestling show next month.

MCW Pro Wrestling has announced that Shane “Swerve” Strickland, AJ Francis, Tehuti Miles, and Briana Brandy will all be appearing at their Spring Fever event on Saturday, March 19. The show is being held at Tall Cedars Hall in Parkville, Maryland.

“The 2022 #MCWSpringFever Tour kicks off on Saturday night March 19th in Parkville, MD with special guests & former #WWE / #NXT Stars formerly known as Hit Row,” MCW Pro Wrestling wrote. “Tickets Are On Sale Now & Going FAST”

Strickland was formerly known as Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in WWE, Francis was known as Top Dolla, Miles was known as Ashante “Thee” Adonis, and Brandy was known as B-Fab. The group formed in NXT, with Scott holding the NXT North American Championship once before Hit Row were called up to the main roster.

Hit Row were drafted to SmackDown last October. But shortly after their SmackDown debut, Brandy was released from her contract. The remaining members of Hit Row were then released two weeks later.
