Tiffany Stratton emerged victorious Saturday at SummerSlam, retaining the WWE Women’s Championship over Jade Cargill. The finish had Cargill attempting Jaded off the top rope, but Stratton countered by sending Cargill down with a rana then hit the prettiest moonsault ever for the victory.
The two had seen themselves in different paths heading into SummerSlam. Jade Cargill earned the title match by winning this year’s Queen of the Ring tournament. However, her feud with Naomi continued into last month’s WWE Evolution, where Cargill defeated Naomi in a no holds barred match. Stratton meanwhile continued to defend her WWE Women’s Championship, retaining the title at Evolution over WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus.
On last week’s SmackDown, Stratton made the save for Cargill after she was beaten down by Chelsea Green and the Secret Hervice. On Friday’s show, the two met briefly, with Cargill saying she didn’t need any help. Stratton replied that she wanted Cargill at 100 percent ahead of their match.
New Women’s Tag Team Champions were crowned at WWE SummerSlam with frenemies Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss winning the belts.
SummerSlam 2025 night one saw Charlotte & Bliss defeat Judgment Day’s Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Despite a tease that Charlotte & Bliss could turn against each other, they stayed on the same page with Bliss pinning Perez to get the victory.
There was a miscommunication near the end of the match where Bliss went to strike Rodriguez but accidentally hit Charlotte instead. Charlotte looked like she might give Bliss a receipt for that, but she instead took out Rodriguez so Bliss could hit Sister Abigail on Perez for the win.
After the match, Charlotte pulled Bliss in for a hug and they celebrated with their newly won belts.
The story leading into SummerSlam was that, despite their bond clearly growing, Charlotte & Bliss claimed not to be friends and said that they were only allies of convenience.
Ahead of SummerSlam, Charlotte told The Wrestling Classic that she’s the happiest she’s ever been in her career — and this team with Bliss is something she needed both personally and professionally. Bliss also expressed to Fox News Digital that she’s enjoying the “fun dynamic” she has with Charlotte.
Both Charlotte and Bliss are former Women’s Tag Team Champions, but this is their first time holding the titles together. Charlotte was champion with Asuka before, while Bliss has had reigns with Asuka and Nikki Cross.
Judgment Day’s Women’s Tag Team title reign began in April with Rodriguez & Liv Morgan as champions. With Morgan being forced out of action due to a shoulder injury, Perez stepped in as Rodriguez’s new partner at the end of June. WWE recognizes it as two separate title reigns.
The OTC emerged victorious at SummerSlam, with help from his cousin.
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso got the victory at SummerSlam, defeating Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker in the opening match of Saturday’s show. The finish had Roman Reigns take the bullet for Uso, shoving him out of the way at the last second and taking a spear by Breakker. Uso recovered and superkicked Breakker out of the ring then speared Reed for the victory. Reigns and Uso shook hands after the match and celebrated in the ring.
As Heyman’s men attacked Jey Uso last month on Raw, Reigns made the save, seeking revenge after Paul Heyman’s new group took him out on the Raw following WrestleMania 41. After he took out Breakker and Bronson Reed, the duo retaliated on this past Monday’s Raw, taking out both Uso and Reigns with spears and tsunamis. After Breakker speared both into a barricade, Reed stole Reigns’ sneakers to add insult to injury.
One of Heyman’s men, Money in the Bank winner Seth Rollins, is currently out of action with a knee injury, though his status isn’t 100 percent confirmed.

SummerSlam Match Order Predictions
Roman Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed with Paul Heyman
Opening the card with Roman Reigns would definitely be bold, but it is something that we could see happening tonight.
Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross
Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross taking place in the second slot would make sense, it’s a way to keep the card moving but this match won’t be anywhere near the main event.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match – Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair
The Women’s Tag Team Championship match taking place in the center of the card would make sense, especially if the company plans on giving the belts to Alexa and Charlotte.
Randy Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul
Putting the “celebrity” match here before we get the final two title matches also makes sense. This is a decent spot on the card and the match shouldn’t be longer than 15-20 minutes (…hopefully).
WWE Women’s Championship Match – Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill
WWE has liked stacking the singles title matches towards the end of the card, much like TKO stablemates UFC, so having the WWE Women’s Championship here would make sense.
World Heavyweight Championship Match – Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
The World Heavyweight title match will be the main event, there’s no doubt about it. Punk and Gunther have been building this match up over the last few weeks and besides
John Cena has apparently seen the error of his ways.
The WWE Champion came down to the ring to start off the show but was immediately cut off by his SummerSlam opponent Cody Rhodes. Cena did most of the talking in the promo, stunning everyone by saying that after he had been attacked on SmackDown, he only had one thing to say to Rhodes: “Thank you.”
He explained that the attack was the “kick in the a**”” he needed. For 25 years he had forged a legacy of respect and hard work and flushed it down the toilet all for shock television. He said that his team ended up leaving him in the aftermath, referring to The Rock and Travis Scott. He didn’t want to take the WWE title home after his final match to ruin wrestling, but just wanted to be remembered.
Cena told Rhodes that by attacking him, he realized that he was about to enter a fight at SummerSlam and declared that August 1, 2025, was the day came back to WWE. He didn’t know who will leave with the WWE title on Sunday but each and every person in the crowd will win because he’s finally over his own BS and Rhodes will be facing someone at his best. He ended by saying the only platinum selling artist at SummerSlam on Sunday will be him, and finished with his trademark catchphrase “the champ is here.”
Rhodes responded by giving Cena a beer, simply telling him “welcome back,” before toasting and leaving the ring. Cena shook hands with fans to end the segment.
Cena turned against Rhodes back at Elimination Chamber, siding with The Rock and Travis Scott. The two faced off at WrestleMania, with Cena winning after Rhodes flinched as he faced the dilemma of using the WWE title to strike Cena. After winning King of the Ring, it was confirmed Rhodes would be challenging Cena for the WWE title at SummerSlam, with Rhodes later adding the stipulation of it being a street fight.

The main event of SummerSlam night one appears to officially be set with CM Punk saying he’s looking forward to headlining the show.
To promote SummerSlam, Punk was a guest on the Good Guy/Bad Guy Podcast with UFC legends Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen. They asked Punk how important it is for him to main event Saturday’s card against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
“Me main eventing, I think it’s important. It’s important for the title. I think it’s important for Gunther,” Punk said. “I think the title should more often times than not always be featured in a main event. So, you know, I’m looking forward to not only main eventing SummerSlam but stealing the whole weekend.”
This is the first time SummerSlam has ever been a two-night event. MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is hosting the show this Saturday and Sunday, with John Cena and Cody Rhodes’ street fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship expected to headline night two.
Punk had huge praise for Gunther ahead of SummerSlam, telling Good Guy/Bad Guy that he sees Gunther as someone who could have been a star in any era.
“Gunther’s a guy that I feel I’m super excited to get in the ring with. Like, you said it, he’s on fire. This dude is the best wrestler in the world. He’s got the gold to prove it, too,” Punk said. “Just everything about him is a throwback. I think he’s refreshing. I think he’s real. He had me speechless the one Monday, and I’m almost speechless now trying to explain how excited I am to get in there with him, you know, because he’s a guy who represents the business to me.
“He’s a guy who represents the current business, and you could take him and you could drop him into a territory in the 60s and he would thrive. You could put him in, you know, Madison Square Garden in the 70s across from Bruno or whatever and he would thrive. So he transcends decades to me. He’s one of the best right now.”
If Punk defeats Gunther, he’ll win his first WWE gold in more than a decade. His last WWE Championship reign lasted from November 2011 through January 2013.
SummerSlam will stream live on Peacock in the United States and Netflix elsewhere. Each night has a start time of 6 p.m. Eastern.

Drew McIntyre has an update on his WWE SummerSlam status.
In a social media post Wednesday night, McIntyre revealed that his passport issue has been resolved, and that he will in fact team with Logan Paul against Jelly Roll and Randy Orton on night one of the event.
In his video post, McIntyre first took kayfabe shots at anyone texting or messaging him regarding his being stuck in the United Kingdom due to a passport snafu as only looking for information to leak. He then ripped The Miz for offering to take his spot in Saturday’s tag team match, calling him “Mike Mizark” and “Missionary Mike,” before revealing that he was training alongside Paul.
McIntyre credited Paul for having more powerful friends than Jelly Roll in helping to clear up his passport issue and getting him back into the United States ahead of this weekend.
“Come Saturday, you and Randy Orton are screwed,” McIntyre said.
WWE SummerSlam takes place this Saturday and Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. Eastern time, with three-hour pre-shows set for both days at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

If there’s an opening on the WWE SummerSlam card, The Miz wants to be the person to take it.
The Miz cut an Instagram promo today saying that, with Drew McIntyre’s status for SummerSlam in question, he wants to team with Logan Paul at the PLE instead. McIntyre & Paul are currently scheduled to face Randy Orton & Jelly Roll at SummerSlam night one this Saturday, but McIntyre says he stuck in the United Kingdom due to passport issues and might not be able to make it.
“If Drew is out. I want in,” Miz wrote in the caption for his Instagram post.
Back at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, Miz teamed with Paul in what was Paul’s first-ever pro wrestling match. Jelly Roll — a country music star — is now making his debut on Saturday as he becomes the latest celebrity to crossover from being a fan to competing in a WWE ring.
Miz applauded Jelly Roll for how hard he’s worked preparing for his debut, but Miz said there’s a difference between dreaming of being a wrestler and living the reality of it every day.
“This isn’t a bucket list, this is my life,” Miz said. “And I’m sick of waiting for my moment.”
There has been no official announcement by WWE yet regarding McIntyre’s status for SummerSlam or if Miz will be replacing him. MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is hosting the two-night event this Saturday and Sunday. Both nights have a start time of 6 p.m. Eastern airing live on Peacock in the United States and Netflix elsewhere.
It looks like there will be three-hour Countdown broadcasts for each night of WWE SummerSlam 2025.
For the first time ever, SummerSlam is a two-night event this year with MetLife Stadium in New Jersey hosting the show this Saturday and Sunday. Peacock is listing that the pre-shows for each night will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern leading into the main cards starting at 6 p.m. Eastern. The Countdown broadcasts typically do not have matches, instead consisting of panel discussion, interviews, and other pre-show hype.
Peacock notes:

The PLE will air live on Peacock in the United States and Netflix elsewhere. There are 12 matches taking place across the two nights (match order not announced):

Ticketmaster has listed WWE Late Night Featuring Tony Hinchcliffe as being canceled, with refunds being issued. The event was set to take place next weekend on August 2 following the first night of SummerSlam.
“Event Canceled. Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event,” Ticketmaster’s website read.
PWInsider is reporting that a source told them that the event was canceled by WWE and that ticket sales had been “light” for the show. Only Cody Rhodes had been advertised thus far.
“Hinchcliffe, the internationally renowned comedian, one of the top roasters in the world and the mastermind behind Kill Tony, will bring together soon-to-be-announced top comics, entertainers and WWE Superstars for an unforgettable night of laughs and huge surprises,” WWE wrote when announcing the show back in June.
The event was set to be non-televised, similar to Hinchcliffe’s first event following WrestleMania where cellphone use was also prohibited. The roast did eventually leak online and caused controversy due to jokes being made regarding Charlotte Flair’s appearance and marital history, among other things.
