Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss advance to WWE Evolution Tag title match

Can they coexist?

The odd couple storyline pairing of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss have advanced to the Women’s Tag Team Championship match set for WWE Evolution following their victory on Friday’s taped SmackDown episode.

Flair and Bliss defeated the teams of Piper Niven & Alba Fyre, and Michin & B-Fab in a three-way qualifier on Friday’s show to move on to the Tag title bout at Evolution. They will challenge current champs Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez, and two teams to be determined in a four-way in Atlanta on July 13.

The current Evolution card includes four title matches following the events of Friday’s SmackDown. The updated lineup:

WWE Evolution, Sunday, July 13, 7 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock in the US and Netflix internationally —

  • WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defends against Trish Stratus
  • Women’s World Champion IYO SKY defends against Rhea Ripley
  • NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne defends against Jordynne Grace
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez defend against Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss and two teams TBD in a four-way
  • No holds barred: Naomi vs. Jade Cargill
  • Battle royal for a championship match at Clash in Paris

No holds barred match added to WWE Evolution

Jade Cargill and Naomi will renew acquaintances in a no holds barred match at WWE Evolution.

Women’s Money in the Bank contract holder Naomi and Cargill will square off in the no rules contest at Evolution in Atlanta on Sunday, July 13. The match was confirmed during Friday’s taped WWE SmackDown episode.

Cargill and Bianca Belair held the Women’s Tag titles as a unit from August to December 2024. An injury storyline where a mystery attacked took out Cargill led to Belair choosing Naomi as her new tag partner, with Naomi assuming Cargill’s role as Tag champ. It was later revealed in storyline that Naomi was Cargill’s attacker.

Naomi and Cargill faced one another previously at WrestleMania 41 night one on April 19 of this year, with Cargill winning.

The updated Evolution lineup is listed below:

WWE Evolution, Sunday, July 13, 7 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock in the US and Netflix internationally —

  • WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defends against Trish Stratus
  • Women’s World Champion IYO SKY defends against Rhea Ripley

  • No holds barred: Naomi vs. Jade Cargill
  • Battle royal for a championship match at Clash in Paris

WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus is returning from hiatus to challenge for the Women’s Championship at Evolution.

As confirmed during Friday’s taped SmackDown episode, Stratus will challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at the Sunday, July 13 Evolution event in Atlanta.

During an in-ring promo with Queen of the Ring winner Jade Cargill, Stratton revealed that she had been granted the opportunity to choose her challenger at Evolution and had chosen Stratus. Cargill will face the winner at SummerSlam set for August 2 and August 3.

Stratus and Stratton teamed at the Elimination Chamber event in Stratus’s hometown of Toronto earlier this year.

A former seven-time Women’s Champion, Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Stratus has held the WWE Women’s title since January 3 of this year when she cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Nia Jax on SmackDown.

Mercedes Mone comments on WWE Evolution 2: ‘It’s about time’

AEW’s TBS Champion Mercedes Mone has thoughts on WWE Evolution 2, the upcoming PLE set for July 13.

In a clip from her subscriber-only chat on her Instagram leaked to social media, Mone spoke on the all-women’s premium live event concept:

“Any thoughts about Evolution 2? I think it’s about time. They waited way too long to have an all-women’s pay-per-view, but I love and will always support and be a huge advocate for women’s wrestling. So, I’m excited for that, for the women that get to perform on that.”

Mone often holds subscriber-only live streams on her Instagram account as part of the $9.99 per month subscription fee.

In another leaked clip, Mone spoke about her short AEW feud with Britt Baker in response to a fan wanting to see more of their rivalry:

“Well, if the D.M.D. wants a back adjustment, she knows where to find me. In my locker room. But make sure you knock on the door first before entering or I’m gonna call security and then the cops.”

New SNME, Evolution matches made at WWE SmackDown taping

At last night’s SmackDown taping, a couple of new matches were confirmed for WWE’s upcoming major events.

– It was announced that Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre will take place at the Saturday Night’s Main Event episode in Atlanta on July 12. It will be McIntyre’s first time wrestling since losing to Damian Priest in a steel cage match at SNME back in May.

McIntyre had been working hurt but returned on the SmackDown taping to interrupt a segment with Cody Rhodes and Orton. He ended up being laid out by an RKO from Orton, setting up their match for SNME.

– It was also set up that Hall of Famer Trish Stratus will challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at Evolution. The two teamed together at Elimination Chamber earlier this year with a victory over Nia Jax & Candice LeRae.

After not wrestling in 2024, this will be Stratus’ third match of 2025 so far. She appeared in the women’s Royal Rumble match in addition to the tag team bout at Elimination Chamber.

Stratus was not announced for the SmackDown taping in advance but was brought out by Stratton as a surprise during an interaction with Jade Cargill. At SummerSlam, Cargill — the Queen of the Ring winner — will challenge either Stratton or Stratus for the WWE Women’s Championship.

It was confirmed on SmackDown that Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss will be one of the teams challenging WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez in a fatal four-way match at Evolution. Full spoilers from the SmackDown taping — with the episode set to air this Friday on the Fourth of July — can be found here.

Here are the updated cards for both SNME and Evolution:

The Undertaker on joining WWE’s creative team: ‘I would definitely entertain it’

The Undertaker is open to being a part of WWE’s creative process.

Talking to WrestleSTAR, the WWE Hall of Famer said he would definitely entertain the idea of joining WWE’s creative team, but it would depend on scheduling working out.

“I’ve always kinda had and interest, it’s just a matter of making it work with my schedule and the other things I have going on because the ask for something like that, it’s really big,” he responded. “I have to be 100 percent committed to be part of that, right? I mean, you have to be involved in all of these creative meetings and all of this other stuff. If we can figure out a way to make that happen, make it happen, being obviously in Texas, I would definitely entertain it. If there is something I can do that can make our product better, help talent, then I’m on board for that.”

WWE Hall of Famer Michelle McCool was also interviewed and was asked about the possibility of competing at WWE Evolution, which takes place next month.

“If they ask, I’ll be there,” she said. “In fact I would love a Laycool reunion, that would be, I think Layla’s finally kinda getting back in the scene. But look, I’m always down to fight, I’m always ready. I have not been called but I would love to do anything they ask me to do.”

Both Undertaker and McCool will be judges for the upcoming season of WWE LFG, which premieres this Sunday.

WWE Evolution, Saturday Night’s Main Event & NXT Great American Bash set for July 12 weekend

The rumors of the return of WWE Evolution have become a reality.

Announced during WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, the second-ever Evolution will take place on Sunday, July 13th at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The show will be a premium live event airing on Peacock/Netflix.

The all-women’s show will be preceded the night before by Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th in the same venue, airing on NBC and Peacock per usual.

During the video, the annual NXT Great American Bash was also announced for the weekend but without a time or date attached. With AEW running All In: Texas during the afternoon, it’s appears a strong possibility they run head-to-head.

A pre-sale takes place Tuesday with combo tickets available on Wednesday.

History of WWE Evolution

The first and only Evolution took place on October 28, 2018, at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. It was WWE’s first-ever all-women’s event, headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella, and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair in a Last Woman Standing bout.

The show was seen as a make-good for their female talent as WWE was heading to Saudi Arabia days later for Crown Jewel, but women were not allowed on those shows at that point.

As early as December 2019, Stephanie McMahon said she hoped to have an announcement about a follow-up soon but it wasn’t until earlier this year that rumors began that it was actually going to happen.

Charlotte Flair addresses possibility of WWE Evolution returning

Charlotte Flair is looking forward to “creating more magic” at WWE Evolution if the return of the event comes to fruition.

Though not officially announced yet, the all-women’s PLE is expected to make its return this summer. The rumored date for the show is Saturday, July 5 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The inaugural Evolution event took place in 2018 with a Last Woman Standing match between Charlotte and Becky Lynch being one of the top bouts on the card. Charlotte told the Daily Mail that it’s one of her favorite matches of her career.

“One of my favorite matches is from the first Evolution. Becky Lynch, Last Woman Standing. One of my top three favorite matches,” Charlotte said. “There’s always rumors that it’s happening, so until it happens, I can’t say yet because we don’t know. Y’all are the ones with the scoop!”

Charlotte thinks bringing back Evolution is a great idea, but she believes the goal for the women’s division is still having more main events and storylines on all WWE shows.

“No, I mean, I think it’d be great if we have it,” she told the Daily Mail. “But I still think the goal is to have more main events and more storylines and so on. The magic that I created on the first one, if it comes to fruition, I look forward to creating more magic on Evolution 2.”

When Evolution happens, Charlotte could be defending championship gold. She won the 2025 women’s Royal Rumble match and is set to challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 41 later this month.

WWE bringing back all-women’s Evolution PLE this summer

Nearly seven years after the show first took place, WWE is reportedly bringing back its all-women’s Evolution PLE.

WrestleVotes confirmed today that WWE is planning for Evolution to return this summer. Cory Hays of PWNexus first reported on the news earlier this month, saying that the PLE was tentatively planned for Saturday, July 5 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Dave Meltzer also confirmed that WWE had that venue booked with Evolution being the tentative plan.

“After speaking with sources, we can confirm WWE is set to bring back the highly anticipated ‘Evolution’ PLE this summer,” WrestleVotes wrote. “The return of the all-women’s event is expected to be officially announced before WrestleMania.”

The first WWE Evolution was held in Long Island, New York in October 2018. Though it was well-received by fans, the pay-per-view did not become an annual event. Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair were among the matches that took place, with the card also featuring returning legends from past eras of the women’s division.

When Evolution 2018 happened, women were not allowed to wrestle at WWE’s shows in Saudi Arabia, so it was speculated that — in part — the PPV was a response to the criticism WWE was receiving. Saudi Arabia then hosted its first WWE women’s match in 2019.

Members of the WWE roster have frequently called for the return of Evolution in the years since the first event.
