Bayley thinks time is right for another WWE Evolution event

Bayley believes now is the right time for WWE to hold another all-women’s event.

In October 2018, WWE Evolution — the company’s first all-women’s pay-per-view — took place from Long Island, New York. WWE has never followed up with Evolution 2, but Bayley believes it’s something the company should do now that it has entered into a new creative era.

Cody Rhodes asked Bayley about her interest in another Evolution event while interviewing her on the first episode of “What Do You Wanna Talk About?,” a new WWE YouTube series that’s sponsored by Wheatley American Vodka.

“Yes. Why not? Like we were just saying, there’s so many women,” Bayley responded. “So the thing about the first one was we had so many girls from NXT for one, which they got to showcase on a bigger stage. But they had so many women from the past. It’s kind of like the first few [women’s Royal] Rumbles, a lot of women from the past because we didn’t have enough women to fill up these matches. But like, now we do. And I think it would be so cool to give everybody on Raw and everybody on SmackDown a part of that show, Evolution 2.

“You can bring girls in from NXT. You can bring girls in — we just saw Jordynne Grace on NXT. TNA girls, whatever that connection is there, we can bring different girls in. You can bring someone in from the past, like if they’re up for it, to do a little something. But we have such a stacked roster right now where it’s like, we can hold down a show on our own, another PLE on our own. And it’s been so many years where it’s not like it’s something we have to do every year where we’re kind of like, ‘All right. We’ve seen it enough times,’ but I think it’s time because it is a different era compared to back then.”

Bayley was part of the card for the first Evolution PPV, teaming with Sasha Banks & Natalya to defeat The Riott Squad in a six-woman tag match. She told Rhodes that it’s one of her favorite matches that she’s ever had.

Rhodes said he thinks another Evolution will happen and it feels like it should happen soon.

Bayley — the current WWE Women’s Champion — is set to defend her title against Nia Jax at SummerSlam on Saturday, August 3.

An incredible amount of devotion from all involved resulted in WWE’s first all-women’s pay-per-view being a special night and a strong contender for the company’s best show of the year.

Evolution wasn’t just an event that was worthy of its place in history — it elevated it. The wrestlers who competed in the ring, everyone involved with putting the PPV together, and the fans in attendance all worked in unison to make Evolution a show that exceeded all reasonable expectations.

The PPV was probably never going to be a significant disappointment. It was obvious that this was going to mean a lot to the wrestlers and they were going to work as hard as possible to deliver in the ring. With Evolution being the first show of its kind in WWE, it had a more unique appeal than run-of-the-mill monthly PPVs and was going to be an event that a lot of fans had an emotional investment in.

NXT UK Women’s title defended before WWE Evolution

When Evolution was first announced, WWE listed the NXT United Kingdom Women’s Championship as one of the titles that would be defended at the pay-per-view.

The participants weren’t advertised in advance and the match didn’t air live, but the NXT UK Women’s title was defended tonight. Rhea Ripley defeated Dakota Kai to retain the title at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York shortly before the Evolution main card started. ESPN.com noted that it was a fast-paced match that had a lot of energy from the crowd.

Ripley’s title win has yet to air on the WWE Network. She won the championship in an eight-woman tournament at NXT UK’s television tapings in Birmingham, England in August. She defeated Xia Brookside and Kai to get to the finals, then defeated Toni Storm to become the inaugural champion.

Since winning the title, Ripley has also been defending it at NXT’s house shows in Florida.

Last woman standing match set for WWE Evolution

The SmackDown Women’s Championship will be on the line in a last woman standing match at Evolution.

After Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair ended in a double countout on tonight’s SmackDown, it was announced that Lynch would defend her title against Charlotte at Evolution in what’s being promoted as WWE’s first-ever last woman standing match. The pay-per-view is taking place at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 28.

With Lynch intentionally getting disqualified at Super Show-Down, tonight’s Lynch vs. Charlotte rematch had a stipulation where the title would have changed hands if Charlotte won by DQ. After the double countout finish, there was an angle where Charlotte speared Lynch through the LED wall at the top of the entrance ramp.

Here’s the updated card for Evolution:

Bliss and James vs. Stratus and Lita set for WWE Evolution

What were originally two singles matches have been turned into one big tag team match for WWE Evolution.

WWE had previously announced that single matches between Trish Stratus vs. Alexa Bliss and Mickie James vs. Lita would take place at WWE Evolution. That has now been changed to a tag team match, with Bliss and James teaming to square off against Lita and Stratus. The build toward the match started tonight on Raw when Alexa Bliss and Mickie James interrupted Trish Stratus, who was in the ring. After some back and forth, Stratus challenged Bliss to come to the ring.

Both Bliss and James made it to the ring, but James told Bliss not to fight her. James proposed that both she and Bliss face Stratus at Evolution. She seemed fine with the idea, but also had a tag team partner in mind. Lita’s music then hit as she and Stratus cleared the ring.

WWE Evolution will take place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on October 28.

Alexa Bliss vs. Trish Stratus set for WWE Evolution

After being advertised to the crowd at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV tonight, one of the matches for WWE’s Evolution pay-per-view is now official.

WWE showed a graphic tonight that said Alexa Bliss will be facing Trish Stratus at Evolution, and the company has since confirmed the match. The PPV is taking place at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 28.

Bliss is set to defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam tomorrow.

Stratus returned to the ring for the first time in nearly seven years during the women’s Royal Rumble match this January. Along with Lita, she was confirmed for Evolution when WWE announced the PPV last month. WWE has hyped that over 50 wrestlers from the past and present will participate in the event.

WWE has also noted that Evolution will feature Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT United Kingdom Women’s Championship matches, and the Mae Young Classic finals will be held at the PPV after they were set during two nights of tapings earlier this month.
