Big spoiler reported for tonight’s WWE SmackDown

The following contains spoilers for tonight’s WWE SmackDown from Chicago.

The rumors of former WWE women’s star AJ Lee returning to join husband CM Punk against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch appear to be more than just rumors based on new intel from PWInsider.

The outlet reported Friday that Lynch is set to close tonight’s SmackDown. That comes after Punk’s name was removed from the official preview for the show earlier in the day.

Punk and Lee famously reside in the Windy City with Punk throwing out the first pitch at Wrigley Field Friday for his beloved Cubs.

Lynch helped cost Punk his shot at regaining the WWE World Heavyweight title at Clash in Paris, aligning with Rollins in The Vision. She then confronted and slapped Punk repeatedly on this past Monday’s Raw — the same show where Lee’s return was teased. During the aforementioned match, Rollins made a point to yell “I hate your family!” to Punk.

It’s expected that Punk and Lee will face Rollins and Lynch at this month’s Wrestlepalooza PLE that kicks off the ESPN era for WWE.

Lee hasn’t wrestled since March 2015 and had retired that same year. In a September 2021 interview, Punk said his wife would not return to the ring.

It is shaping up to be a big edition of the show with John Cena schedule, a rumored appearance by Brock Lesnar, and the potential for Lee’s return. Triple H himself tweeted earlier in the day that the Allstate Arena “is magic…let’s make some more tonight.”

Our live coverage kicks off at 8 PM Eastern.

New SNME, Evolution matches made at WWE SmackDown taping

At last night’s SmackDown taping, a couple of new matches were confirmed for WWE’s upcoming major events.

– It was announced that Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre will take place at the Saturday Night’s Main Event episode in Atlanta on July 12. It will be McIntyre’s first time wrestling since losing to Damian Priest in a steel cage match at SNME back in May.

McIntyre had been working hurt but returned on the SmackDown taping to interrupt a segment with Cody Rhodes and Orton. He ended up being laid out by an RKO from Orton, setting up their match for SNME.

– It was also set up that Hall of Famer Trish Stratus will challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at Evolution. The two teamed together at Elimination Chamber earlier this year with a victory over Nia Jax & Candice LeRae.

After not wrestling in 2024, this will be Stratus’ third match of 2025 so far. She appeared in the women’s Royal Rumble match in addition to the tag team bout at Elimination Chamber.

Stratus was not announced for the SmackDown taping in advance but was brought out by Stratton as a surprise during an interaction with Jade Cargill. At SummerSlam, Cargill — the Queen of the Ring winner — will challenge either Stratton or Stratus for the WWE Women’s Championship.

It was confirmed on SmackDown that Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss will be one of the teams challenging WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez in a fatal four-way match at Evolution. Full spoilers from the SmackDown taping — with the episode set to air this Friday on the Fourth of July — can be found here.

Here are the updated cards for both SNME and Evolution:

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (Saturday, July 12 on NBC and Peacock) —

  • Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre

  • WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defends against Trish Stratus
  • NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne defends against Jordynne Grace
  • Fatal four-way match: WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez defend against Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss and two teams to be announced
  • Battle royal to determine Women’s Championship challenger for WWE Clash in Paris

WWE SmackDown live spoilers from London

The following are live spoilers for Friday’s WWE SmackDown, airing live from London, England at 4 PM Eastern throughout the world on Netflix but at 8 PM Eastern in the U.S. per usual on USA.

We will have our usual live coverage of the show, also at 8 PM Eastern.

The show will feature a WrestleMania 41 contract signing between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and CM Punk; LA Knight defending the WWE United States title against Braun Strowman; and the Street Profits defending the WWE Tag Team titles against Pretty Deadly.

**********

  • Shots of Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Charlotte Flair, LA Knight, among others, arriving at the arena opened the show.
  • Cody Rhodes opened the in-ring portion of the night with a promo to a great ovation from the London crowd. Randy Orton showed up to interrupt Rhodes’s promo. Orton put over Rhodes for being courageous and that he respected him. He then said that once WrestleMania season is done, he was calling his shot for Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Title. Drew McIntyre then interrupted. McIntyre blasted Orton for being undeserving of the title and also called his shot for the title. Rhodes cut off McIntyre’s tirade with a punch as Orton attempted an RKO. McIntyre escaped calamity.
  • Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre was announced for later in the evening.
  • Street Profits vs. Pretty Deadly for the WWE Tag Titles was up next. The challengers were decked out in Union Jack-themed attire for the home country pop. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford retained the titles with a clean win.
  • Kayden Carter & Katana Chance vs. The Secret Her-vice was set up with a segment from earlier in the day. Piper Niven got the pin for her team after a Chelsea Green distraction and the Piper Driver. Post-match, the Secret Her-vice attacked Carter and Chance, but Zelina Vega ran down for the save. Green’s group got the upper hand with the numbers game.
  • LA Knight vs. Braun Strowman for the United States Championship ended in a disqualification after Jacob Fatu attacked Strowman at ringside. Fatu continued the assault in the ring until Knight got involved. Fatu dropped both Strowman and Knight in the ensuing melee.
  • Jimmy Uso was interviewed backstage about his slapping of Gunther from Raw this past Monday. The Miz and Carmelo Hayes interrupted with some harsh words for Jimmy. A challenge for Jimmy vs. Miz was made for later tonight.
  • Jacob Fatu was confronted by Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. Sikoa was upset with Fatu for taking matters into his own hands. Fatu said that he was going to be the last man standing between him and Braun Strowman and he’d win the U.S. title with or without Sikoa’s help.
  • A video of Naomi explaining her recent actions against Jade Cargill was shown. After that video, Cargill was shown talking to Nick Aldis asking for Naomi’s whereabouts. She was met with B-Fab and Michin, who encouraged Cargill in her quest for vengeance against Naomi.
  • Naomi brutally ambushed Michin and B-Fab before the former was set to face Charlotte Flair. Jade Cargill ran in, which forced Naomi to beat a hasty retreat. Cargill stared down Charlotte, who was making her way for her match.
  • Charlotte Flair defeated Michin via submission with the Figure Eight.
  • Tiffany Stratton was interviewed backstage about her upcoming WrestleMania match against Charlotte. Stratton said that she was going to make sure Charlotte’s chances of being WWE Women’s Champion would stay in Vegas.
  • Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton via pinfall after Kevin Owens distracted Orton long enough for a McIntyre Claymore kick. Owens tried to attack Orton after the match, but Orton managed to fight back. Orton had Owens dead to rights for the Punt, but Owens managed to escape through the crowd to avoid it.
  • Jimmy Uso defeated The Miz via pinfall with the Uso Splash.
  • Backstage, Drew McIntyre was interviewed after he chatted with musician Lewis Capaldi. Just as he was about to leave for the pub, Damian Priest confronted McIntyre and attacked him in the arena parking lot. Priest chokeslammed McIntyre on the windshield of a car (that may or may not have had real glass) to finish his assault. CM Punk was shown walking past the fallen McIntyre and had a chuckle at the expense of his rival.
  • A recap of John Cena and Cody Rhodes’ faceoff from Raw this past Monday was shown.
  • The contract signing for Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41 closed SmackDown for tonight. After the crowd sang for Reigns, Rollins was next to enter the proceedings. Rollins said that he and Reigns accomplished their “mission”, but Reigns would not have had any of it. Rollins put Reigns on full blast for letting the “snake”, CM Punk into the garden and that it was left on him to clean up the mess again. This brought out Punk not long after. Punk took his time to look for something in the contract, that something being that the triple threat match being the closing match for one of the WrestleMania 41 nights. Rollins threw a temper tantrum at this news due to his claims that Punk didn’t deserve to main event WrestleMania. The show went off the air with Reigns demanding that Punk acknowledge him for geting him this main event. Punk thanked him, but he said that was not the favor Paul Heyman owed him.

Notes

  • Bret Hart vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13 was announced as the first match to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
  • Another spooky teaser that may or may not be for the returning Aleister Black was shown, with “IV XXV” briefly flashing on the screen.

WWE SmackDown live spoilers from Bologna, Italy

The following are live spoilers for Friday’s WWE SmackDown which is taking place live from Bologna, Italy, and airing live on Netflix throughout the world with the exception of the U.S.

The show will air in the U.S. at 8 PM Eastern on USA per usual with our usual detailed live coverage.

This post will be updated as the show progresses.

**********

  • The show opened with separate shots of Jade Cargill, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, Braun Strowman, the New Bloodline, and CM Punk entering the arena.
  • Randy Orton kicked off SmackDown as the Bologna crowd loudly sang his theme. Before Orton could say anything, Kevin Owens interrupted and blamed Cody Rhodes for his actions towards Orton. Owens claimed that he saved Carmelo Hayes because he didn’t want Orton to go back to being the Legend Killer. Orton refused to accept Owens’ apology and offer to vie for the WWE Tag Titles at WrestleMania 41, instead challenging him to a match. Orton promised to kick Owens’ head “off his freakin’ shoulders” in Las Vegas.
  • Drew McIntyre & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Damian Priest & Jimmy Uso was the first match of the night. Priest and Uso got the victory after the former hit South of Heaven on Nakamura. After the match, McIntyre attacked Priest, as he laid him out with a Claymore kick.
  • LA Knight and Braun Strowman talked backstage, with Strowman calling his shot for the US Title once he took care of Jacob Fatu tonight.
  • Tiffany Stratton & Charlotte Flair had a split-screen interview with the commentary team. Flair said that she chose Stratton as her WrestleMania opponent because she felt sorry for her. Stratton told Flair that she finds the hottest thing and throws water on it, before she said that she’d see Flair at WrestleMania to conclude the interview.
  • Jacob Fatu vs. Braun Strowman was our second match tonight, with the winner earning a U.S. Title shot on next week’s SmackDown. The match ended in a disqualification win for Strowman after Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga attacked, which seemed to anger Fatu a bit. LA Knight ran in for the save to help Strowman clear the ring of the New Bloodline.
  • Backstage, Fatu blew a gasket over Sikoa causing the DQ in his match, warning that Sikoa better “watch it”.
  • Piper Niven defeated Zelina Vega via pinfall with a running crossbody after Alba Fyre & Women’s U.S. Champion Chelsea Green provided enough of a distraction for Niven to take advantage of.
  • A recap of John Cena’s venomous, hate-filled heel promo and Cody Rhodes responding to him on this past Monday’s Raw was shown.
  • Liv Morgan defeated Jade Cargill via pinfall with ObLIVion after Naomi interfered and blasted Cargill with one of the Women’s Championship title belts. Post-match, Naomi continued her assault on Cargill, ending with a forceful shove from the apron into the commentary table. The match itself was fantastic.
  • Drew McIntyre was asked about why he kept targeting Damian Priest with his ambushes in the past two weeks. As he was about to leave, he was confronted by Seth Rollins.
  • New WWE Tag Team Champions the Street Profits entered the ring to the theme they formerly used as part of The Pride with Bobby Lashley. They celebrated their victory from last week in a promo before they were interrupted by Legado Del Fantasma. Santos Escobar said that Angel and Berto were ready to challenge for the belts as they were then interrupted by Pretty Deadly, the official number one contenders for the Tag Titles. As Legado and Pretty Deadly bickered, Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford threw down the gauntlet against LDF and and wanted the smoke.
  • The Street Profits (Dawkins & Ford) defeated Legado Del Fantasma (Angel & Berto) via pinfall after Ford landed his Frog Splash on Angel to pick up the win in this impromptu tag match. One noteworthy spot saw Ford land on his feet after Angel and Berto attempted a double team suplex from the top rope, much to their incredulous reaction.
  • Pretty Deadly were confronted backstage by #DIY, who tried to broker a deal with the duo of Elton Prince and Kit Wilson to “help” them next week in their Tag Title match next week. Pretty Deadly responded with an emphatic “no, boys” to Gargano & Ciampa. After Pretty Deadly left, the Motor City Machine Guns mocked #DIY for their bad fortunes.
  • Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Seth Rollins’ confrontation closed out the night. Reigns was first to enter, as he talked about what was on his mind with what Punk and Rollins tried to do him. He challenged someone to step up to him, which brought Rollins out to a loud reaction. Rollins read Reigns the riot act for not letting him finish Punk off when he had the chance. Punk himself soon joined the fray. He brought up the favor that Paul Heyman owed him from last year’s WarGames. Punk struck Reigns from behind with the microphone as Rollins entered the scuffle. The corps of referees, road agents, and security ran in to separate the three from one another. At ringside, Reigns took out both Punk and Rollins with the steel steps. SmackDown ended with the brawl between Reigns, Rollins, and Punk still very much in progress and the three making it clear they want to fight one another at WrestleMania 41.

Notes

  • Orton namedropped Italian football legend Roberto Baggio during his promo, mentioning that he was going to punt Owens’ head as hard as Baggio’s kicks.
  • Italian rapper Anna was shown in the crowd during a segment on the show.
  • Match made official for WrestleMania 41: Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens
  • Another “4” teaser with white smoke, the number “3”, and quick flashes of someone was shown, again seeming like a tease for a returning Aleister/Malakai Black.
  • We got another apparent teaser for Rey Fenix, this time giving us somewhat a bit of a clearer shot of him.
  • Matches for next week’s SmackDown: LA Knight vs. Braun Strowman (US Championship match), Pretty Deadly vs. Street Profits (WWE Tag Team Championship match)

Setup at the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany

Post-show dark matches announced

Damien Priest vs. Dominik Mysterio and Gunther vs. Ilja Dragunov (was originally scheduled as a tag with Gunther/Kaiser vs. Ilja/Sami Zayn)

Dark Match: Street Profits vs. A-Town Down

Theory and Waller attack before the bell, but quickly get thwarted. Crowd chants “Auf die Fresse”, which basically means ” hit ’em in the mouth”. Some heat on the Street Profits, but they quickly come back and get the win with the Electric Chair/Blockbustet combo.

German announcers at ringside

Holger Böschen and Walandi Tsanti come out to call the show from a second announce table at ringside, as the show airs live in Germany at 7 PM local time.

They are followed by Michael Cole and Wade Barrett.

SmackDown spoilers

A video plays of Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton arriving at the arena airs.

L.A. Knight open challenge segment

L.A. Knight comes out to a huge pop. The German fans love him and there were chants of L.A. Knight Yeah! all throughout the arena before the show started.

He talks about it took WWE 27 years to come back for a major televised event (they taped RAW in February 1997 and had the finals of the European championship in Berlin back then). Since Berlin is the capital of Germany, let’s call the U.S. title the capital title.

Ludwig Kaiser answers the open challenge and the roof blows off the building as the local hero comes to the ring. He says is the best in Germany and will rename the title the European championship. Knight says he won’t let Kaiser win the title.

They go nose-to-nose as the show heads to commercial. During the commercial, they played a clip for the new collegiate WWE championships. I’d guess less than 0.1% of the German audience follows U.S. college sports.

U.S. Championship: L.A. Knight vs. Ludwig Kaiser

Loud “Auf die Fresse!” and “Ludwig Kaiser” chants. The German crowd keeps going with “There’s only one Ludwig Kaiser” (in German) and “Ludwig Kaiser dop-dop-dop-dop” chants.

Knight works the arm, Kaiser takes over but quickly gets clotheslined. They brawl at ringside and Kaiser gets the better of the exchange, then runs around the ring and dropkicks Knight into the steps.

Back in the ring, Kaiser stops an attack, then stomps a mudhole into Knight in the corner. Knight rolls onto the apron, but Kaiser aggressively ground and pounds him. The crowd breaks into the “Oh, wie ist das schön!” (Oh, how beautiful that is) song. The action spills to ringside again ans this time, it’s Knight on the offense as he bashes Kaiser’s head into the announce table.

Back in the ring, Knight hits a neckbreaker and elbow off the second turnbuckle for a two-count. Kaiser scores a near-fall of his own with a beautiful enzuigiri. Kaiser keepa dominating as the crowd works itself more and more into a frenzy.

But German victory shall not be achieved on this day, as Knight suddenly hits the BFT for the pin and the win and actually got booed. Crowd still chants Ludwig Kaiser over Knight’s theme.

Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews vs. Legado del Fantasma (Angel & Berto) /w Elektra Lopez

This starts out as the Baron and Apollo show, with Apollo holding a vertical suplex and Corbin taking out both members of LdF by himself. Loud Baron Corbin chants.

Corbin launches apollo over the top with a hip toss onto the heels. Apollo gets worked over as the crowd chants “Ihr seid scheisse!”, which means “you are shitty”.Crews finally gets the hot tag and Corbin runs wild with clotheslines.Apollo taga back in and hits a crossbody and some German suplexes. All four men are down and Corbin and Angel roll to ringside, where Angel eats an uranage onto the announce table.

LdF make it back into the ring and pin Crews after an assisted knee strike.

Face to Face: Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens

Nick Aldis is in the ring, he throws to a highlight reel of the recent European tour, then thanks the fans in German for their support.

Kevin Owens is out next to another very good reaction. Cody, of course, is madly beloved as the crowd sings his song and some indoor pyro goes off.

Kevin actually asks Cody what he wants to talk about and Cody says the championship. Kevin says he wants to talk about something else, an apparent knee injury Cody suffered during the recent European tour leading up to Bash in Berlin. Cody brings up that last week, it looked like KO was about to hit him with the title belt.

Cody says that maybe Owens gets too little credit and he heimaelf gets too much. Owens brings up the knee again and Cody starts getting pissed. Owens said that if the knee is fine, why didn’t Cody take a knee as he usually does during his entrance. There is some more back and forth and Owens talks about first winning the title 8 years ago.

Cody asks if they will still be friends after tomorrow. Kevin drops the mic, whispers something into Cody’s ear and leaves, while Cody looks flustered.

Backstage segment

Corbin, Crews, Waller and Theory bicker. Waller and Theory tease dissensions. They make up and still will not break up already.

Andrade el Idolo vs. Carmelo Hayes

Carmelo gets thrown to the outside quickly and Andrade hits a springboard torneo. He follows with a double foot stomp onto the apron, as Hayes is helpless in the ropes. Andrade drops him with a sliding D for a two-count and they exchange offense.

Hayes locks in an armbar, but Andrade fights out. Andrade with a dragon screw and flying forearm, then hits a one-two moonsault combo as Hayes initially rolled out of the way. Hayes hits the running double knees in the corner. Andrade counters a suplex and wants the Three Amigos but as Hayes flips out, opts for a Karelin lift into a power bomb instead. Andrade with a Spanish Fly off the middle rope for a near fall. Andrade locks in a figure four, but Carmeo turns it. Hayes goes up top again and Andrade hits a Bandido-style moonsault power slam for a two-count. Both try for O’Connor rolls and Andrade eventually hits a spinning elbow. Hayes throws Andrade face first into an exposed buckle as he climbed the ropes, which looks brutal. Carmelo then hits Nothing but Net for the clean pin.

Street Fight for the women’s championship: Nia Jax vs. Michin

Michin is bavkstage with a kendo stick and cuts a promo before coming out with a cart of plunder. She whacks Nia with the stick right at the bell. They brawl outside briefly, then Michin gets Nia back with flying headscissors through the ropes.

The crowd chants for tables in English and German and Michin complies. There is some back and forth with nia putting the table away again, but eventually Michin prevails. Two tables are in the ring, and Jax throws in all the rest from the cart.

Michin blocks a kendo shot with a trash can lid and gets a few shots with the kendo stick in, but gets slammed onto the apron from inside the ring. Nia sets up tables, but Michin sprays her with a fire extinguisher.

More lid shots by Michin and a spinning DDT on the lids, before she sets up a table in the ring. Michin ends up on the table but rolls off and powerbombs Nia through the table.

It’s Tiffy Time, as Tiffany Straton hits the ring and hits Michin with the briefcase but is torn about cashing in. Just as she is about to insert herself into the match, Bayley’s music hits and she and Tiffany brawl through the crowd.

Nia hits a Samoan drop on Michin through a table propped up in the corner, then follows with the Annihilator for the win.

Post-show dark match #1: Damian Priest vs. Dominik Mysterio

The crowd love them some Damien and despise Dirty Dom, with loud “f*** you Dom!” chants. Dom attacks right away, but Damien quickly overpowers him. Dom takes more of a beating and quickly falls victim to South of Heaven.

Post-show dark match #2: Gunther vs. Ilja Dragunov for the WWE championship

A slightly toned down version of their previous battles, meaning they only killed each other death with chops, lariats and kicks 9/10th of the way. Gunther won with a brutal delayed powerbomb. Fantastic match. Post-match, Ilja got to celebrate in the center of the ring in the city where he grew up.

WWE SmackDown spoilers: Clash at the Castle go-home show

Before it airs tape-delayed on Fox, Friday’s WWE SmackDown will be shown live in some markets overseas.

It’s a massive weekend for Scottish wrestling as the country prepares to host its first WWE PPV/PLE. The OVO Hydro in Glasgow is the venue for tonight’s SmackDown and Saturday’s Clash at the Castle. Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles will both be in the building tonight in advance of their “I Quit” match for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash at the Castle.

We’ll also get the final build to the WWE Women’s Championship match at Clash at the Castle. In her home country, Piper Niven is challenging Bayley for the title this Saturday.

Niven’s tag team partner Chelsea Green faces Naomi on SmackDown. Kevin Owens vs. Solo Sikoa and Nia Jax vs. Michin have also been announced for the episode, along with a Grayson Waller Effect segment with DIY.

Join us for spoiler coverage starting at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

– Cory Graves hyped up Glasgow as we saw clips of Cody Rhodes, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens arriving at the arena.

Naomi (w/ Bayley) beat Chelsea Green (w/ Piper Niven) [08:33]

Chelseas called herself and Piper “the hometown heroes” and promised fans would see not one but two crushing defeats this weekend. Naomi, by the way, has modeled her in-ring look after a unicorn “the national animal of Scotland” (as checked and verified by Cory Graves).

They locked up and Chelsea started out with some chain wrestling, but quickly got overwhelmed as the crowd sang the “Hey Bayley, will you be my girl?” song. Naomi hit the splitt-legged leg drop for a two-count, then followed up with a basement dropkick in the corner. Chelsea escaped to ringside, then stopped Naomi with a slap as she went for a dive as we headed into our first commercial of the night.

Back from commercial, Chelsea still was in control as Bayley got the audience to chant for Naomi at ringside. Naomi hit a kick out of the corner as Chelsea rushed in then hit a springboard enzuigiri, followed by a dive to the outside. Back in the ring, Chelsea hit a cross body from the top for another two-count. Naomi went for punches on the turnbuckle, but Chelsea yanked her down and hit a missile dropkick for a two-count of her own and immediately went for another pin. Chelsea threw a tantrum, then went for a rollup out of the corner and put her feet on the rope, which Bayley shoved down.

Piper Niven got into Bayley’s face and the two had words as Naomi hit a prawn hold in the ring for the quick three count. Bayley and Naomi celebrated on the outside as Niven consoled Chelsea in the ring.

This was a fine little match to kick off the show and put a spotlight on Bayley vs. Piper Niven for tomorrow. There were not a lot of cheers for Niven and the people were into Bayley (Bayley also was massively cheered during the Clash at the Castle pre-show that took place before SmackDown!). The Glasgow crowd, while lively, up to this point couldn’t hold a candle to the crazy French fans in Lyon from a few weeks ago.

– A clip recapped the attack of Legado del Fantasma on Apollo Crews last week

– Baron Corbin was talking to Nick Aldis when Legado del Fantasma walked in and made fun of him. Aldis promised Corbin they would postpone their talk and told LdF they were being fined for their attack on Apollo Crews last week. Santos Escobar asked if Apollo was cleared, then told Aldis to inform Apollo that he would be facing him later tonight.

– A highlight video showcased Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair and their upcoming match against Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn and Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark

The Grayson Waller Effect with #DIY

There was another disturbance in the feed with a QR code for the presumed new Wyatt Family as the segment was beig announced.

Waller insulted the crowd, saying he talked English and thus did not understand any of them. He said he didn’t bring plants as this place was so depressing not even fake plants could cheer it up. Gargano and Ciampa came out and threw one of the chairs that were set up out of the ring.

Ciampa tried to stir something up between Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. Waller said he would take a bullet for Theory and Ciampa threw it to a clip that showed how Waller pulled Theory in the way of a Gargano dive during last week’s match. Ciampa wanted a fight and wanted it here, now and for the tag team titles, which Waller straight up refused. Gargano said everyone was tired of hearing Waller talk and wanted to talk to Austin Theory.

Gargano said they went way back and Gargano always believed in him and was proud of what Theory had accomplished on his own. He told Theory that Waller was using him, prompting Waller to blindside Gargano. As a brawl ensued, Waller once more pulled Theory into the way of a Gargano superkick. Gargano took out Waller with a running knee and Ciampa did the same to Theory. The champions regrouped at ringside while Gargano and Ciampa took a closer look at the tag team titles in the ring.

A fun angle, further planting seeds of dissension between Waller and Theory that possibly might cost the the tag team titles down the line and might lead to a program between the two. Maybe this could be the breakout moment for Theory, who floundered after beating John Cena at WrestleMania and then quickly disappeared deep into the midcard.

– A clip showed the triple powerbomb through a table that Kevin Owens took from the Bloodline last week. Owens was then shown backstage sitting on a box as the Street Profits and B-Fab entered the frame and told Owens they had his back, as Owens had been there for them in the past and they also hated the Bloodline.

– The camera followed Grayson Waller and Austin Theory discussing what just happened, then transitioned into Bayley and Naomi walking down the hallway as Waller and Theory ducked into a dressing room. They encountered Blair Davenport, who insulted Naomi before walking off. Naomi wanted to go after her, but Bayley calmed her down and thanked Naomi for having her back. Naomi told her not to thank her but hug her, which Bayley did. This led to Chelsea Green coming around the corner and getting into Naomi’s face. This was all a ruse for Piper Niven to squash both of them against a wall and welcoming them to Scotland

Santos Escobar (with Legado del Fantasma) beat Apollo Crews [08:55]

Apollo started the match with an overhead belly to belly suplex but the match quickly spilled to ringside with Santos dominating as the rest of Legado del Fantasma distracted Apollo. Suddenly, Baron Corbin’s music hit as he ran out and started beating up Angel and Berto. Back in the ring, Crews used the distraction to launch Escobar into the air with a press slam and hit a standing moonsault for a two-count as we headed into a commercial break.

Escobar was back in control as we returned from break, hitting an enzuigiri from the apron followed by a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Crews came back with an arm drag, kicks to the leg and a Stinger splash into the corner. He hit two consecutive German suplexes but Escobar elbowed his way out of a third one. Crews quickly came back with a high-angle fallaway slam for a two-count. They briefly fought on the top rope before Apollo threw Escobar down and want for a cross body, but got kneed in the sternum in a greatly-timed spot.

Apollo caught Escobar with a Death Valley Driver, but Escobar managed to kick out at the last second. Corbin at ringside cheered Apollo on, but got attacked once more by Angel and Berto. He fought back and threw them into the ring steps, but Elektra Lopez used the ensuing chaos to shove Crews off the top rope. As he argued with her, Escobar rolled him up and hooked the tights for the cheap win.

This was a really good match that showcased both men’s in-ring-talent very well. Apollo Crews may be one of the most underrated guys in WWE today and seeing Ricochet looking to prove himself elsewhere made me remember how great he and Uhaa Nation used to be on the indies and in Japan. Repackaging Baron Corbin as a face is an interesting concept, but he floundered in the role in the past and really was his best as a badass in the recent Wolf Dogs team with Bron Breakker in NXT. Crews and Corbin are still at least one man (and one woman) short if they want to step up to LdF, so we’ll see who they may be able to recruit to their cause.

– a video recapped the great angles leading up to tomorrow’s Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles I Quit world title match at Clash at the Castle; we then saw Cody Rhodes in a suit walking through the backstage area

– Andrade, Cedric Alexander, Ashante “Thee” Adonis and Pretty Deadly were shown in the crowd. Everyone’s life is better with Pretty Deadly in it

Cody Rhodes segment

Cody walked out to kick off hour two as the crowd sang his song (albeit not as loud and enthusiastic as in France) and made a young lad’s day as he signed his Cody poster.

Cody said he really believed AJ was about to retire a few weeks back. He said no one wants to be become the guy who overstays his welcome and AJ Styles is starting to look like that guys. The crowd erupted into singing Cody Rhodes’ name. Cody played into it, then started talking about how AJ Styles wanted him to say the words… before he stopped himself as not to fall into the old Mick Foley trap of having the tape of saying just those words played back at him tomorrow.

AJ Style’s music hit and he came out, flanked by the OC. He said it was really easy fool Cody as all he had to do was faking his own retirement. The crowd started singing “Cody Rhodes” again, drowning Styles out. Cody asked him why he was so far away, told him to leave Gallows and Anderson (who he called “Horace and Jasper”) behind and face him man to man. Styles complied and slowly entered the ring.

They then smartly put up a “SmackDown! Live & Loud” noisemeter on the screen and the video wall above the ring, measuring the crowd at around 92 dB.

Styles talked about how it had taken him 17 years to climb the ladder to get to WWE as the crowd told AJ Styles to refrain from speaking in not so nice terms. Styles accused Rhodes of quitting WWE when things got tough. He said things did not stop there, as Cody also quit NJPW and ROH. He said Cody also helped found another company and quit it too, to which the crowd gasped. He said the saying goes “when things get tough, Cody walks”.

Cody said that Styles was right, he quit all those places but he did not quit, he walked away to chase something greater. He said he bet on himself and accomplished his goals, as he was now standing here WWE champion. Cody said he idolized AJ Styles, but if anyone quit, it was Styles quitting on himself.

Cody said that AJ wanted him to say “I Quit” and AJ pointed out how easy those words came to him. AJ also uttered the words “I Quit” at one point, so at least they canceled that out. AJ said that his family actually would rather have him own, but he told them the same thing he told the rest of the world: “I am done when I say I’m done”. He vowed to win the title tomorrow and make Cody quit.

This was a great go-home segment, hyping tomorrow’s I Quit match and making it meaningful. Mentioning the real-life career decisions of Cody in NJPW, ROH and (even though not mentioned by name) AEW added some intriguing realism.

– Cathy Kelley interviewed the Street Profits and B-Fab and questioned if it was wise for them to put themselves in the Bloodline’s crosshairs. Just as they started answering, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa appeared on cue and beat the Street Profits down. Nick Aldis and a number of officials ran in to break the melee up and the former Guerillas of Destiny calmly walked away and around the corner just as Kevin Owens came running down the stairs. He also was held back as Solo Sikoa followed Tonga and Loa at a distance.

– a pre-taped promo of Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark aired, where they talked about winning the women’s tag team titles tomorrow

Nia Jax beat Michin [01:20]

Tiffany Stratton joined Cory Graves and Wade Barrett for commentary for this match. They also showed last week’s backstage altercation between Michin and Jax that lead to this match.

Michin hit a few shoulder blocks in the corner as Jax easily threw her off. Michin hit Eat da Feet which staggered Nia and forced her to ringside. Stratton on commentary was asked why she wanted to align with Jax and answered that Jax was on the top of the women’s division and also the Queen of the Ring. She then quickly left the commentary position to jaw-jack at Michin, who quickly grabbed her and threw her over the announce table.

This allowed Jax to gain the upper hand and she quickly hit the Annihilation banzai drop and gain the pinfall victory.

Just a quick squash, with Stratton trying to prover her worth to Nia Jax.

– Backstage, Kevin Owens emerged from the trainer’s room. Cathy Kelley asked him about an update on the Street Profits. Owens said that they would not be able to have his back later on after all, but that was okay, as he had fought the “Bootleg Bloodline” on his own before and would do so again.

– a video of Logan Paul at the Tetris World Championships in Pasadena, CA aired, where he said that he “got his ass handed to him by a bunch of 14-year olds”. We then saw Paul getting home to his Puerto Rico mansion where he was informed that “his boy from L.A. was here and was hanging out in the pool”. Paul was irritated and of course, we saw L.A. Knight floating in Paul’s pool with a drink. Knight took a call, then got out of the pool as Logan screamed for security. L.A. Knight then left and told Paul that they would see each other in Chicago next week and to bring the U.S. title.

– Carmelo Hayes then was in the crowd and cut a promo on both Knight and Paul and also decalred for Money in the Bank

– Solo Sikoa was walking backstage, followed by Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. Nick ALdis informed them that after what had happened earlier, Tama and Loa were barred from ringside and if they turned up anyway, all three of them would be suspended. Paul Heyman counseled Sikoa that if he lost his match against Owens tonight, he “would his leadership position of men who did not respect leadership in the first place”. Solo told Heyman that if he lost tonight, he would be coming after Heyman, which left Heyman wide-eyed and in shock.

– Fanatics Fest in NYC takes place August 16-18 and in addition to some of WWE’s current top stars, Hulk Hogan will also be on hand

– Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn came out for a quick interview with Jackie Redmond in the aisle. They vowed to win the women tag team titles tomorrow. Alba was wearing a Scottish football jersey, which did her team no good, as Scotland was behind 2:0 against Germany in the kick-off match of the UEFA European Championships at that point.

Solo Sikoa (w/ Paul Heyman) beat Kevin Owens [16:20]

Owens came out wearing a Scotland 3:16 shirt, complete with smoking skull on the back. Owens attacked right away, sending Sikoa to ringside. Owens followed and sent Sikoa into the barricade and the Prime cart at ringside. He hit a frog splash from the apron to the outside as we headed into a commercial break.

Back from the break, both men were back in the ring as Sikoa took Owens down with a back elbow of a whip-in, which only yielded a one-count. He followed with a running hip attack in the corner, that nearly took Owen’s head off. He went for another one, but Owens moved and hit a DDT to even the odds as Paul Heyman watched on with a pained look on his face. Owens proceeded to stomp a mudhole into Sikoa. He proceeded to rock Sikoa with a few clothelines and took the big man down with a lariat.

They went on to battle on the turnbuckles, with Owens getting the better of the exchange and hitting a tornado DDT for a two-count. Sikoa came back with a Samoan Drop for a near-fall of himself as Heyman was on an emotional rollercoaster at ringside. Owens hit a number of superkicks, then followed with a cannonball into the corner and a swanton bomb, for another close two-count. Owens went for a piledriver on the apron but got back body dropped and ended up on the floor as we headed to another commercial break.

Back from the break, Solo was looking for a superplex from the second turnbuckle but Owens threw him off with an elbow to the head and hit a frog splash for another two. Owens went for the stunner but Sikoa blocked it and hit two Spinning Sikoas, but Owens managed to kick out. Owens hit two super kicks and went for another Swanton, but got thwarted when Sikoa put his knees up.

Owens hit the stunner and had Sikoa pinned, but Heyman put Sikoa’s leg on the bottom rope. Owens went after Heyman, then decided to put Heyman through the announce table. As he was dismantling the table, Sikoa hit a Samoan Spike at ringside, then hit another one inside the ring for the pin and the win.

Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga were out immediately to beat down Owens, then went to put him through the announce table again when Randy Orton’s music hit and he ran out for the save. He hit a draping DDT on Solo Sikoa, then set up for the RKO. Tonga Loa appeared from behind and fell victim to said RKO as the Bloodline retreated and Orton checked on Kevin Owens, who hugged him as the show went off the air.

A really good main event, made better by a fired up Kevin Owens and a desperate, emotional Paul Heyman. The return of Randy Orton received probably the biggest pop of the show, as KO finally got some serious backup in his ongoing battle with the Bloodline.

Overall, an entertaining sow that flew by. The crowd was lively and engaged throughout the night and I’m very much looking forward to Clash at the Castle tomorrow. The absence of Drew McIntyre may be a slight disappointment to some, as an appearance in front of his him crowd with a brief promo may have really out them in a frenzy.

WWE SmackDown spoilers from Saudi Arabia

Before airing on Fox tonight, SmackDown’s King & Queen of the Ring go-home show was taped in Saudi Arabia on Friday. The episode aired live in some international markets.

– Wrestlers were shown arriving to the arena. WWE also showed the announcement Paul “Triple H” Levesque made revealing that the King & Queen of the Ring tournament winners will receive title shots at SummerSlam.

– Queen of the Ring semifinal match: Nia Jax defeated Bianca Belair

The story for the match involved Belair having a hurt knee, which gave out when she went to hit the KOD on Jax. That allowed Jax to get the victory.

Jax advances to face Lyra Valkyria in the tournament finals at WWE King & Queen of the Ring this Saturday. Valkyria was in the crowd for Jax vs. Belair. In a post-match interview, Jax said she’s going to buzz through Valkyria to become Queen of the Ring and then go on to win the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam.

– Grayson Waller & Austin Theory were shown backstage.

– Belair was backstage icing her knee after the match. Tiffany Stratton walked up to Belair and mocked her. Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell did as well. Jade Cargill then got involved and said she was going to go talk to Nick Aldis, setting up a WWE Women’s Tag Team title match with Belair & Cargill defending against LeRae & Hartwell. That was later made official for the King & Queen of the Ring pre-show.

– LA Knight was supposed to appear on The Grayson Waller Effect, but Carmelo Hayes came down to the ring instead. Waller & Theory agreed that Hayes is a better guest than Knight. Hayes suggested that they work together against the veterans of SmackDown.

Hayes said Bobby Lashley, Baron Corbin, and Knight are selfish egomaniacs. Knight then made his entrance. The segment led to Hayes launching an attack on Knight. He fought back but Waller and Theory joined in. The Street Profits then ran out to help Knight even the odds.

– LA Knight & The Street Profits defeated Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller & Austin Theory

– Cody Rhodes shook hands with Randy Orton backstage and wished him good luck in King of the Ring.

– Tama Tonga and Paul Heyman were shown backstage.

– Rhodes appeared in front of the crowd, but Logan Paul interrupted him before he could say anything. Paul claimed that he’s smarter than Rhodes, a better athlete than him, and a better performer. After giving his brass knuckles to Michael Cole at yesterday’s press conference, Paul reiterated that he won’t need to cheat to beat Rhodes at King & Queen of the Ring.

Though Paul claimed not to have brass knuckles, Rhodes called his bluff and had the referee search him. The referee found brass knuckles in the search. Paul initially claimed they were his brother Jake Paul’s pants but then admitted that they were his.

Rhodes said that, until Paul dedicates himself full-time and respects the ring they’re standing in, he will never be on Rhodes’ level and will never be Undisputed WWE Champion. Rhodes promised to beat Paul so bad that Paul will regret ever stepping into the ring with him.

– Byron Saxton interviewed Randy Orton.

– Nia Jax and Bayley had an interaction with Jax telling Bayley to keep the WWE Women’s Championship safe until SummerSlam.

– DIY interrupted an interview with The Street Profits. Though they respect The Street Profits, DIY want the next shot at Waller & Theory’s WWE Tag Team titles. If DIY have to go through The Street Profits, so be it. The segment ended with Tommaso Ciampa dumping out Ford’s party cup.

– Bayley defeated Chelsea Green

Immediately after the match, Piper Niven attacked Bayley and laid her out.

– AJ Styles approached Nick Aldis in his office. Pointing out how close he came at Backlash, Styles asked for another shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship. Aldis said he would personally love to give Styles another chance, but Styles has to earn it.

Styles responded by saying he doesn’t have that much time left in his career. Aldis said he can’t help Styles with that.

– A video aired hyping that Andrade is coming to SmackDown soon. Berto wasn’t happy about it and said Andrade should have stayed on Raw, but Angel thinks Andrade is skilled and could be valuable to Legado Del Fantasma. Santos Escobar said they should let bygones be bygones and think about business.

– Tama Tonga was shown getting ready for his King of the Ring semifinal match against Randy Orton.

Paul Heyman said Tanga Loa isn’t at the show because they couldn’t get him across the border. Heyman told Solo Sikoa that Sikoa is recruiting very dangerous people into The Bloodline, and there’s a reason they weren’t brought in before.

Sikoa said that, until Roman Reigns is back, he’s in charge. If there are any problems, Heyman needs to fix them.

Orton advances to face Gunther in the finals. Like Valkyria earlier, Gunther was in the front row watching this match.

An RKO got the win for Orton after Sikoa tried to interfere. After the match, Sikoa attacked Orton and gave him a Samoan spike. Kevin Owens ran out to save Orton from the attack.

SmackDown ended with Orton and Gunther having a staredown.

– AOP defeated Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate

– Paul Heyman met with SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis. Aldis denied Heyman’s request to cancel the Owens & Orton vs. Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga match that’s set for Backlash. In response, Heyman said he isn’t responsible for what happens to Owens & Orton.

It was revealed during the interaction that Heyman and Roman Reigns haven’t spoken since WrestleMania. Heyman said Reigns didn’t pull himself from the draft — Heyman did it on his own to keep Reigns out of the chaos that’s going on in The Bloodline.

Aldis said that, if Heyman can do that on his own, he should get Owens & Orton to remove themselves from Backlash.
