Nickelback song announced as WWE WrestleMania 42 theme

Nickelback is reuniting with WWE for WrestleMania 42.

Triple H announced on X that the band’s latest single “Bones for the Crows” will serve as an official theme song for the event.

“They’ve rocked with us for over 20 years, and their new song will soundtrack the Grandest Stage of Them All. @Nickelback’s “Bones For The Crows” is an official #WrestleMania theme song.” tweeted Triple H.

From 2009 to 2012, Nickelback’s ‘Burn it to the ground’ was the official WWE Raw theme. A few other tracks like Rockstar, Edge of a Revolution & more have been featured for WWE programming over the years. Bones for the crows was initially created for the Dungeon Hunter 6 game in 2023. This is the band’s first single release since their ‘Get Rollin’ album in November 2022.

Aerosmith and Youngblud’s version of ‘Back in the Saddle’ was earlier used in WWE’s promotional material for WrestleMania 42

WrestleMania 42 will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19, 2026. Roman Reigns and CM Punk collide for the World Heavyweight Championship. Randy Orton takes on Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. From the women’s division, Rhea Ripley challenges Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Title as Stephania Vaquer defends her Women’s World Championship against Liv Morgan.

Fight Game: Is Oba Femi’s time now?

John LaRocca and Garrett Gonzales return with a brand-new Fight Game to discuss some of the most interesting topics in pro wrestling.

We gave out our thumbs up and thumbs down before talking about the very violent AEW Revolution main event and wonder if the violence has become too much.

We also talked about the WrestleMania main event angle with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton and discuss why the psychology was really good, but also how it felt a little too rushed at the same time.

We finished up the show with our new Observe This segment talking about stories from Dave Meltzer’s 1985 Observer Book. We focused on Mid-South on WTBS, AWA faking a title change, and all of the Barbarians there were in wrestling in March of 1985.

Update on planned WWE WrestleMania 42 matches | Exclusive

Dave Meltzer has an update on the currently planned WWE WrestleMania 42 card.

In today’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer wrote that in addition to the announced matches, Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu and AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch are expected to be added.

Meltzer wrote:

“Matches that have been confirmed to us on the show or announced are the two main events, Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan and Jade Cargill vs. Rhea Ripley for the two different women’s titles, AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch for the IC title, Lesnar vs. Femi, and Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu. McIntyre vs. Fatu is scheduled for the 3/20 Smackdown show but it was described as something designed to heighten interest in their Mania match.”

Meltzer also speculated that Seth Rollins will either wrestle Logan Paul or Bron Breakker on the show, depending on if Breakker is healed from hernia surgery in time.

“In looking at other things, Seth Rollins vs. either Logan Paul or Bron Breakker seems like a likely direction. It has not been confirmed to us on whether Breakker will be ready after hernia surgery and we were [told] the Paul & Austin Theory vs. Usos direction does not necessarily mean Paul won’t be in that match and is unrelated.”

Theory & Paul vs. The Usos is scheduled for Monday’s edition of WWE Raw.

Earlier this month, there were reports that WWE is planning at least six women’s matches for the WrestleMania card this year. Meltzer added that a multi-team match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships could be added to the lineup.

Meltzer added:

“It certainly appears there will be a multiple team women’s tag title match with Nia Jax & Lash Legend, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria, Asuka & Kairi Sane and the Bella Twins all seeming to be in that mix. I could also see something similar for the Smackdown tag titles.”

Earlier this week, it was reported that Gunther vs. Rey Mysterio had been the plan for Mania before Mysterio suffered a rib injury.

“Gunther doesn’t seem to have any kind of a program. Some think Rey Mysterio, who has also been injured. A Grande Americano vs. Grande Americano mask vs. mask match would seem to be a direction, whether at this event or later,” Meltzer continued.

“Carmelo Hayes seems to be in the direction of Ilja Dragunov for the U.S. title, Trick Williams with Sami Zayn as well as Giulia vs. Tiffany Stratton for the US title.”

Meltzer further speculated about Jelly Roll’s possible involvement for WrestleMania 42 following his SmackDown appearance last week as a guest on The Miz TV.

“There seems the possibility of something involving Jelly Roll. But that looks to be most of the show right there given there are expected to be 14 to 16 total matches over the two nights.”

The full edition of this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter is available for subscribers here.

WWE WrestleMania 42 announced lineup:

  • Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship
  • Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship
  • Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship
  • Jade Cargill vs. Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship
  • Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar

Update on potential Jelly Roll WWE WrestleMania 42 match

If Jelly Roll competes at WrestleMania 42, it doesn’t sound like it will be in a tag team match with Royce Keys.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that, after asking about rumors of Jelly Roll and Keys teaming together at Mania, he was told that it will not be happening. It’s not officially confirmed that Jelly Roll will be wrestling at the event, but Meltzer expects him to given what went down on SmackDown last week.

“I kind of wonder where they’re going with Jelly Roll,” Meltzer said. “It just feels to me they’re going to build to some gimmick match with Kit Wilson, maybe a tag with The Miz because The Miz has been involved in the storyline. They could do that. I had asked about the story because there was a story about Royce Keys, and I was told that it’s not Royce Keys, for whatever that’s worth. I wasn’t actually told that there is a match [for Jelly Roll], but when you look at it, it certainly seems like they’re building it.”

Last Friday’s SmackDown saw Jelly Roll return to WWE programming and interact with Miz and Wilson. The Miz TV segment ended with Jelly Roll inadvertently dropping Miz with a punch after Wilson moved out of the way.

A music superstar with an inspirational life story, Jelly Roll is a big WWE fan and has wrestled one match for the company so far, teaming with Randy Orton in a loss to Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam 2025. He received significant internal praise within WWE for how hard he worked to prepare for that match but still came out of it thinking of all the things he could have done better.

The Jelly Roll-Wilson storyline will continue on SmackDown this week with Wilson calling Jelly Roll out.

Jade Cargill names Charlotte Flair as her ‘dream opponent’

Jade Cargill has Charlotte Flair on her radar after checking Rhea Ripley off her list of dream opponents.

On Complex Grabs The Podcast, Cargill was asked about the fantasy match bookings fans were conjuring up after WWE announced her signing with the company in 2023. In the interview, she also discussed who was the dream opponent she expected to face on a stage like WrestleMania out of Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair.

“Of course, she’s the top girl. She’s the number one girl in our company currently. You know, she’s placed at such a high position and I’m going to reach the top, the highest of heights within this company. I mean, in what five years now, I have a title. I’ve been a champion three times over. I never worked the indie scene. I’ve been blessed to create such splash and to be the type.”

“So, yes, she was one of my opponents. I mean, one of the dream matches I wanted to have amongst others like Charlotte Flair. And I thought that’s actually the opponent I thought I was going to face at Mania was the likes of Charlotte Flair. You know, we’ve been teasing it for so long. And I think that’s a money-making match. I mean, she’s a Queen of home, right? And I am as well. And I think we have such similar aesthetics sometimes that I think it’s more of a like who’s who? Like who’s really like that Queen or whatever you want to say. I didn’t really dream book Rhea as being the person I would have had my ‘Mania match with this year.”

Cargill’s answer remained the same when questioned on feuds for the second half of the year particularly if Bianca Belair and Naomi made their returns. She reiterated Flair still being the No.1 dream opponent noting that SummerSlam would be the perfect stage for it to happen.

“Well, when I retain, we’re gonna, yeah, assuming that in the air. I think well I would love to go on to face Charlotte at SummerSlam, but if Bianca returns, I don’t know what ‘cause the way the big three kind of split up was, like it was like a missing piece.”

“So, I think it’s a storyline we need to embark on when everybody’s healthy and ready to go. I think everybody will want to see that story line. it’s so many avenues you can go with that storyline, right? But the person I would want to see at SummerSlam since I’m not seeing them at Mania will be Charlotte. It’s already there.”

Cargill gave further backing on her reason for choosing Flair.

“It’s about breaking her. She’s stoic. Like I’m stoic, but she’s very like, you know, so I think it’ll be a great match. And I know Charlotte’s a woman for pulling people up and making them better. And that’s the people I want to work with.

Earlier this month, a social media encounter began when Ripley posted a throwback of her championship matches at WrestleMania over the past six years. Cargill took notice and responded by calling her a “second option.”

Ripley instantly clapped back by sharing throwback interviews of Cargill labeling her a “dream opponent.” As the back-and-forth continued, Ripley claimed that all Cargill did was talk. Eventually, Ripley showed up to the March 6 edition of SmackDown to confront the champion and set up their title match for WrestleMania 42.

Liv Morgan discusses ‘Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo,’ film release timeline

Liv Morgan opened up about her mindset heading into WrestleMania 42 and details on her upcoming film Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, including the release timeline.

Speaking on Director’s Cut Radio, Morgan explained how WrestleMania marks the beginning of the wrestling year for her. With Backlash taking place in her hometown of Tampa in May, she feels confident she’ll return as a “hometown hero” and the new Women’s World Champion.

Morgan said:

“Yeah, so WrestleMania to me kind of signifies like the start of the wrestling year. You know, we work all year to lead into WrestleMania to tell these stories and have these matches at WrestleMania, and once it’s done, it kind of feels like a reset. So, Backlash being the first PLE in the wrestling year as far as I’m concerned in Tampa, where I’m currently from. So, I kind of feel like the hometown hero walking in a brand new champion.”

Morgan reflected on her time working on the film and confirmed that it’s scheduled for release in September this year.

“I have something on the way. Bad Lieutenant I filmed in Japan last year. It, it’s going to hit theaters in September. I was very excited about the project,” said Morgan. “I learned a lot, and I feel better after the fact. Having the experience, I was lucky to be in the room with all of these incredibly talented veterans of the film industry. And the WB audience is going to see me in a way that I think perhaps they never thought they’d see me. So I would tune in.”

In the thriller film directed by Takashi Miike, Morgan plays the missing daughter of a politician, whose disappearance is central to the story. The movie follows a troubled Tokyo police officer who becomes entangled in a dangerous investigation after an FBI agent’s arrival in Japan searching for the politician’s missing daughter.

On the WWE front, Morgan, who won the Royal Rumble, challenges Stephanie Vaquer for the WWE Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 42.

Update on Gunther’s WWE WrestleMania 42 plans

WWE reportedly had another legend lined up for Gunther at WrestleMania 42.

BodySlam reports that Gunther was originally slated to begin a program with Rey Mysterio which would have culminated in a WrestleMania 42 match. The angle was to begin after Gunther attacked Dragon Lee on the March 2 episode of WWE Raw. However, plans for Gunther vs. Mysterio are currently uncertain due to Mysterio having suffered a rib injury in January.

Mysterio suffered fractured ribs during a match with Austin Theory on the January 26 WWE Raw. He took part in the Royal Rumble match the following Saturday but hasn’t wrestled since. Mysterio has been doing commentary for recent editions of AAA on Fox, including Saturday’s airing of the first part of Rey de Reyes.

Gunther’s attack on Lee earlier this month was his last televised appearance.

WrestleMania 42 will emanate from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19. Already scheduled for the show is Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight title and Randy Orton challenging Cody Rhodes for the WWE title.

WWE releases footage of Roman Reigns after Raw goes off-air

After an intense conclusion to Raw, WWE has released off-air footage with a promo from Roman Reigns.

Reigns and CM Punk came face-to-face yet again ahead of their highly anticipated bout at WrestleMania 42. Following the end of the broadcast, Reigns grabbed a microphone and addressed the crowd. He called Punk a “hypocrite” for pretending to keep it real with the fans and proceeded to insist his genuine love for them, unlike his opponent.

“Your Tribal Chief never lied to you. I’ve always kept it real,” Reigns said. “And there ain’t nothing real about that one there. I told you, he’ll say everything he can, but all you gotta do is jab him the right way and he’s a hypocrite.

“At WrestleMania, I remind him and the rest of the world who runs this company. At WrestleMania, in the main event, CM Punk will acknowledge me and he will apologize to my family. San Antonio, you’ve been wonderful. We love you. Look at this, all the way up, huh. This is what happens when the Tribal Chief comes to town. God bless you. Get home safe, your Tribal Chief loves you.”

The friction between the two men has only increased ahead of their showdown at WrestleMania 42. However, it seems there were some creative changes made to their planned confrontation on Raw last night. Reports suggest that after Punk’s disrespectful comments about Sika Anoa’i, Reigns was originally supposed to retaliate with a “darker response” referencing Larry — Punk’s dog who passed away in December 2025. That ultimately did not happen with Reigns instead mocking Punk’s age.

After winning the 2026 Royal Rumble, Reigns chose to challenge Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. The two-night event is being held in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19.

Report: WWE changed original creative plans for Punk-Reigns Raw segment

CM Punk and Roman Reigns’ encounter on WWE Raw, as tense as it was, was reportedly not the original ending that was planned.

According to BodySlam+, the show-closing segment of Monday’s Raw was initially planned for a different creative direction. It was supposed to end with Reigns bringing up Punk’s dog, Larry, who passed away in December 2025, in a “darker response” than WWE ultimately ended up going with. This would be in retaliation to Punk’s comment about Reigns’ late father Sika Anoa’i a few weeks earlier.

Larry was CM Punk and AJ Lee’s rescue dog adopted from Paws Chicago in 2015. Following Larry’s passing, the couple participated in a fundraiser to raise money for Paws.

After what transpired with Punk mentioning Reigns’ family, social media was flooded with people anticipating a rebuttal about Larry. It seems it was heavily considered for last night. But instead of the planned route, the Raw face-off saw Reigns mock Punk for being old. The confrontation ended with Punk punching Reigns in the face as security rushed out to separate the two men.

There’s been no word as to why WWE changed directions for the segment. Punk and Reigns are facing off for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 this April. It’s expected to be the main event of night two on Sunday, April 19, though no official announcement has been made yet.

Indie wrestler confirms role in Brock Lesnar WWE Raw angle

Independent wrestler Vin Parker played a role in the opening segment of WWE Raw last night.

The March 16 edition of Raw kicked off with a chaotic angle where Seth Rollins had a confrontation with Paul Heyman. Brock Lesnar then made his presence felt. The masked men who have been accompanying Rollins surrounded Lesnar as he tried to invade the ring — and one of the masked men ended up being taken out with a slam onto the steel steps.

Responding to a clip of the incident on social media, Parker shared that he was the man under that mask.

“Not my wisest decision,” Parker tweeted.

Parker is an independent wrestler who has trained at the Rhodes Wrestling Academy, owned by Dustin Rhodes. He has made some appearances for Ring of Honor and is based out of California for his independent work.

The Raw segment led to the announcement that Oba Femi will be Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania 42 opponent. Femi stood toe-to-toe with Lesnar, overpowered him with a Fall from Grace, and put his foot on top of Lesnar as the audience cheered. WWE’s clip of the moment currently has nearly 1.5 million views on YouTube.

WWE selling tickets on top of WrestleMania 42 stage

WWE is opening up new WrestleMania tickets with a “one-of-a-kind elevated viewing experience.”

The company announced today that, beginning this Friday (March 20) at 1 p.m. Eastern/10 a.m. Pacific, fans will be able to purchase tickets to WrestleMania with seats placed atop of the Mania stage. In WWE’s announcement, the company hyped that this is the first time it has ever sold these kinds of seats. Only a limited number will be made available.

WWE’s announcement said:

  • WWE, in partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, today announced that fans can purchase seats positioned atop the iconic WrestleMania 42 set for the first time ever when the Premium Live Event takes place on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Pricing details for these stage seats has not been revealed.

This is the second straight year Vegas has hosted WrestleMania. For WrestleMania 41, the stage was modeled after a Vegas hotel and did have some seats located in that area, though they were not available for purchase.

WWE notes that the WrestleMania 42 stage will be unveiled in the days prior to the event.

“Each year, WrestleMania features a theme-based set that transforms the host stadium and enhances the live event experience,” WWE wrote. “In 2025, the custom-built WrestleMania 41 set leaned into the tradition of Las Vegas, incorporating a resort-inspired design to reflect the city’s iconic entertainment culture.”

So far, there have been five matches officially announced for the WrestleMania card:

  • World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk defends against Roman Reigns
  • WWE Champion Cody Rhodes defends against Randy Orton
  • Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer defends against Liv Morgan
  • WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill defends against Rhea Ripley
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi

Oba Femi isn’t the only good option for a Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 42 opponent | Opinion

Last month, Brock Lesnar issued an open challenge for WWE WrestleMania 42 with rumors running rampant afterward that Oba Femi will be the man to step up.

On tonight’s WWE Raw, it’s possible that we will finally learn who will answer the challenge as Lesnar is scheduled to appear.

Femi exploded onto the main roster scene at the Royal Rumble, not only marking his debut at the event but also entering at number one. He eliminated five men before his run came to an end at the hands of Lesnar who eliminated him.

But what if Femi isn’t the pick if WWE doesn’t want to defeat either he or Lesnar right now?

Given that, here’s a few other names to consider, some longer shots than others.

Gunther

As of late, the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has built his reputation and in-ring performance on being the “career killer.” After adding Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles to that list, it would be natural for him to target Lesnar next — another bold statement feat on his wrestling resume and one that would continue to solidify him as a ruthless heel in 2026.

They have never battled each other in singles competition despite it being teased nearly three years ago. Coincidentally, it was at the 2023 Royal Rumble where the two briefly collided in an intense exchange. Both Gunther and Lesnar have openly expressed interest in the blockbuster clash which has yet to come to fruition, but could at WrestleMania or perhaps SummerSlam if Lesnar does indeed retire in his native state of Minnesota.

Royce Keys

Keys was a dominant force in AEW for nearly six years as Powerhouse Hobbs before moving to WWE. He also made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble this year. However, he has not made any appearances since then and has yet to make an impact. If Lesnar walks into WrestleMania 42 without knowing his opponent is, Keys could be an interesting one to answer the challenge.

Such a high-profile match could help sustain Keys’ momentum and establish him among the fanbase. Despite a potential loss in this once in a lifetime match against Lesnar, it could possibly be remembered as a career-defining moment and reveal his potential as a top star going forward.

Talla Tonga

The nearly seven foot giant has proven to be a formidable weapon for The MFTs on SmackDown. Towering over the other WWE stars, Tonga uses his size and agility with brutal strikes in the ring.

A potential match between he and Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 would be the ultimate battle of strength and supremacy. Both men possess overwhelming athleticism and power aligning with their physique which could set the stage for a first time ever encounter.

Tonga made his WWE debut at Night of Champions later year to assist Solo Sikoa in his United States Title match against Jacob Fatu. It not only established Tonga’s powerful presence but also an immense challenge for future heavyweights and anyone who dared oppose The MFTs.

Omos

While it would not be a full-fledged match, WWE could use the opportunity and capitalize on Omos’ return for WrestleMania.

Omos and Lesnar already share a history with their WrestleMania 39 showdown. The wrestling giant’s last televised match in WWE was in 2024 but since then, he has been somewhat active in dark matches in NXT and appearances in both Pro Wrestling NOAH and AAA.

His potential return at WrestleMania 42 to challenge a former rival could bode well in his re-establishment as a dominant force on the roster, even if it lasts for a few minutes.

Bron Breakker

Breakker’s meteoric rise to stardom on the main roster within a couple of years in addition to being dubbed ‘the next big thing’ would have made him the perfect rival for Lesnar. However, the uncertainty surrounding his hernia surgery recovery puts him at a disadvantage for being out of in-ring action for most of the first half of 2026.

In spite of reports on Lesnar’s WWE retirement some time this year, a bout between the two at some point is a must. It’s unlikely for WrestleMania, but would be a surprise if it happened.

Final Thoughts

Gunther would be an ideal fit to face Lesnar at WrestleMania 42. If he destroys Lesnar at WrestleMania, he could be further positioned as the prime heel in 2026, possibly joining the ranks of Roman Reigns as one of the defining villains of the decade.

As of this writing, Gunther has no feuds on his radar. And to avoid a failed boost that built momentum over the past few years, the opportunity should be seized by WWE to check off a blockbuster feud against Lesnar. Regardless of whoever would walk away with the win, the bout would leave a lasting impact and could leach to a rematch.

While Femi’s rising popularity is not to be forgotten, a push too soon for a WrestleMania clash combined with a premature loss on a stage of such grand magnitude could impact his ever-growing momentum.

Perhaps we’ll see what happens tonight.

Steve Austin on possible WrestleMania 42 appearance, his WWE future

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is open to making an appearance at WWE WrestleMania 42, but he thinks most of the spotlight should go to the current roster.

To help celebrate 3:16 Day (March 16), Austin called into Busted Open Radio for an interview on Monday. When asked about his status for WrestleMania 42, Austin said it would be cool to be involved in some form. But he thinks WWE has a quality roster right now that deserves to be showcased on the biggest stage.

“It’s funny because you’ll sit there or they’ll put something on [Instagram] and people will say, ‘Oh, no, no. Man, he’s too old. Let the current talent have the spotlight.’ Let the current talent have the spotlight, of course. If I can go out there and do something, that’d be fine,” Austin said. “But God damn, when I crashed that four-wheeler last year up there against that wall, man, you talk about sh***ing the bed big time. I was so pissed off about that. Because I was looking forward to going out there and announcing the attendance and then watching the show, seeing what kind of show the superstars were going to put on. And, man, I sh*t the bed on the big stage.

“We’ll see if they have me back. If they do, that’s cool. I always say — they got a pretty good roster, you know? So I think those guys and gals, they need all the time.”

Austin made an on-camera appearance at WrestleMania 41 in 2025 when he announced the night two attendance. He drove an ATV down to the ring and accidentally crashed into the ringside barrier, knocking down one fan.

WrestleMania is back in Las Vegas again this year — and Austin will be among the guests at the WWE World convention. He told Busted Open that he’s honored that fans still want to see him involved. But if he were to come back to WWE, it would be for a moment rather than an actual wrestling match.

“It’d be to go back for one of those moments,” the 61-year-old Austin responded when asked if he ever gets the itch to return. “Not a match itch, right? I got a left knee replacement a little over a year ago. And God dang, my leg feels good, I’m glad I got it done. But, yeah, I get the itch for certain moments. But to try and do a match? No.”

When asked if he’d be interested in coming back for a cinematic match, Austin said he loved The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles from WrestleMania 36. However, Austin thinks Undertaker vs. Styles was appropriate for the time it took place. He doesn’t know if he wants to see too many more cinematic matches.

“I don’t think so,” Austin said about a possible cinematic bout. “I think I’m good.”

One of Austin’s biggest hobbies at the moment is his off-road racing team. He’s preparing for an upcoming race, which appears to rule out Austin being in Texas for Raw tonight.

WWE seemingly confirms WrestleMania 42 main events

WrestleMania 42 is about a month away — and it looks like we now know the main events for each night.

On WWE’s official ticketing website, it’s indicated that Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton’s WWE Championship match will be taking place on night one of WrestleMania 42 on Saturday, April 18. A graphic for that match is used for night one of Mania on the WWE.com schedule. Subsequently, CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship is the graphic displayed for night two on Sunday, April 19.

These would be the expected main events for both nights of WrestleMania, though WWE has not officially announced the match order yet.

Punk vs. Reigns was confirmed for WrestleMania shortly after Reigns’ Royal Rumble victory. During the build, issues between the two have been heightened with Punk bringing up Reigns’ late father Sika Anoa’i. That then led to a confrontation between Punk and The Usos taking place on Raw last week.

The Rhodes vs. Orton match was confirmed when Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre on the March 6 episode of SmackDown to regain the WWE Championship. Orton had already earned a WrestleMania title shot through his win at Elimination Chamber — and he turned heel last Friday by bloodying Rhodes ahead of Mania.

WrestleMania 42 is being held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. On the WrestleMania page of WWE’s website, the graphics for Punk vs. Reigns and Jade Cargill vs. Rhea Ripley both have a blue color scheme. The Rhodes vs. Orton and Stepanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan graphics have an orange color scheme. It’s not known if that means those matches will be taking place on the same night.

There are five matches officially announced as of now:

WWE WrestleMania 42 card —

  • World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk defends against Roman Reigns
  • Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes defends against Randy Orton
  • WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill defends against Rhea Ripley
  • Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer defends against Liv Morgan
  • Brock Lesnar open challenge (opponent TBA)

Dominik Mysterio proposes stipulation match for WWE WrestleMania 42

Dominik Mysterio has an idea for a stipulation match at WrestleMania 42 to regain the Intercontinental Championship.

Ahead of his title defense this weekend at AAA Rey de Reyes, Mysterio spoke with Brad Gilmore on The Collection Podcast about his mindset going into the bout. He also talked about his quest to win back the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania.

Mysterio said:

“So first things first, I gotta retain my AAA Mega Campionato this Saturday at Rey de Reyes, which obviously is not a problem. But I think going into it, I want my IC Championship back. I don’t care what I have to do. I know Penta’s an ugly, ugly dude. So, I’m willing to put my hair up on the line against his mask and that IC Championship if he’s more than willing to. You know, hell, I’ll even put up my mustache, whatever it takes to get my IC title back, because at the end of the day, I beat this dude probably seven or eight times already. He got lucky on this last one because of Finn Balor’s dumba**. But, anyways, I would like to walk in as a double champ or walk out as double champ of WrestleMania.”

Mysterio first won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. In September 2025, he defeated El Hijo del Vikingo to win the AAA Mega Championship.

Mysterio later entered a feud with Penta that lasted for much of 2025 in WWE. Penta defeated Mysterio to win the Intercontinental Championship on the March 2 edition of Raw amid tensions within The Judgment Day.
