WWE

  • During an interview with TV Insider, CM Punk was asked if he and his wife AJ Lee have any plans to work together on a TV or movie project:
    • There are really two things me and my wife don’t do together. One is to work out and the other is to work together. It’s really the perfect relationship. She is my partner through and through. She has her things, and I have mine. When the right thing comes along, I guarantee we will work together. Although I’m not looking over her shoulder while she is slaving away at her computer telling her to write a role for me for her many projects coming up. I’m sure it will happen if it fits. And it has to fit. It can’t be forced. It can’t be her just writing something for me or vice-versa or me trying to get her slotted into something because she is my wife. She is a creative genius and extremely talented in her own right. So, anything we do end up doing together will be super fun, but it has to be the right fit.
  • Peacock announced that it is increasing its price by $3 per month beginning on July 23:

  • On a new episode of their Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki and Brie Bella recapped WWE Evolution weekend. Brie Bella said she was bummed to miss the show, but she believes everything happens for a reason:
    • I was yearning to be in Atlanta, to either watch live or I would have loved to have been in a match or been part of something. At the same time, where I’m at in my life, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Everything is meant to be.
    • There were so many Bella Army people hitting me up, ‘I’m so bummed you’re not there.’ I am, too, but it’s Nikki’s time. Fingers crossed, I would love to come one day. If that will ever happen. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t. That’s fine.
  • Rhea Ripley thanked IYO SKY following their match at Evolution: “Always bet on yourself. From the Pre show dark match [Ripley vs. Dakota Kai] at Evolution 1 to the Main event of Evolution 2! Thank you @Iyo_SkyWWE for making history with me”

  • While speaking with The Takedown on SI, TNA President Carlos Silva reiterated his desire for TNA Impact to air live weekly if the promotion can secure a TV deal that would make the idea financially feasible:
    • I think the first thing, I mean, I’m a live guy. I’ve been a live guy my whole career. The team that we’ve built believes in live, I would love TNA to be live every week. Live, every week, is a different animal, logistically and operationally. I know the team that we’ve got can handle it.
    • The partnerships that we’ve got would support it. But there’s a different cost structure around going live 52 weeks a year, whether you’re in a location like a performance center-type of place, some of the year you’re traveling, part of the year, it just changes the dynamic around operationally allocating your costs. And I think that would be the first thing that would change.
  • Silva added that he knows going live is something the fans want as well:
    • I know the fans want us to be live every week. I want to be live every week. It’s why we’ve started to open up some more live windows, because I think the wrestlers perform differently live as well, and they’ll tell you when we have our meetings together, they love the energy of live. And so really, that’s the linchpin of what it would do for us as we sort of go to the next level.

Update on AJ Styles-TNA Slammiversary rumors

AJ Styles — the greatest homegrown star in TNA Wrestling history — could be returning to the promotion for an appearance this weekend.

Speculation that Styles will be appearing at TNA Slammiversary began this week when, while posting a tweet promoting the show, TNA President Carlos Silva was sure to capitalize the word “PHENOMENAL” — a possible reference to Styles. There has been no official announcement that Styles will appear, but Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown reports that several members of the TNA roster expect him to be at Sunday’s pay-per-view in some capacity.

“The Takedown has learned that a potential Styles appearance at Slammiversary has been in the works for some time now and was a top priority for the upper brass within TNA,” the report said. “The expectation among several members of the roster is that he will indeed be at UBS Arena for Slammiversary in some capacity.”

Styles is one of the most decorated wrestlers in TNA history but has not competed for the promotion since 2013. The 48 year old recently signed a one-year contract extension with WWE. An appearance at Slammiversary would be possible because of the growing working relationship that WWE has with TNA Wrestling.

The build to Slammiversary has been heavily featured on WWE NXT — and NXT stars Trick Williams and Jacy Jayne are competing in two of the top matches at the pay-per-view. Williams, the current TNA World Champion, is defending his title against Joe Hendry and Mike Santana in a triple threat match. Jayne and Masha Slamovich are facing off in a winner-take-all bout where the NXT Women’s Championship and TNA Knockouts Championship are both up for grabs.

Long Island, New York is hosting Slammiversary with the July 20 PPV set to take place at UBS Arena.

TNA Impact lineup for Slammiversary go-home show

As a tune-up before he defends the X-Division title at the pay-per-view, Moose will face Sami Callihan on next week’s Impact.

Tessa Blanchard will go one-on-one with Dani Luna on Impact ahead of her match against Indi Hartwell at Slammiversary.

Trey Miguel undergoing hernia surgery after TNA Slammiversary

Trey Miguel is slated to undergo surgery soon, but he’ll still be competing at TNA Slammiversary.

Miguel announced today that he’ll be undergoing hernia surgery after the July 20 Slammiversary pay-per-view. He described it as a minor operation and said a full recovery is expected.

“After Slammiversary I will undergo hernia surgery. I was given a choice and I chose to be there. I will give it my absolute best because that’s what [TNA] deserves and you the fans,” Miguel wrote. “A full recovery is expected as this is a minor surgery. Thank you all for the well wishes and messages. Apologies to anyone I missed and didn’t get to reply to.”

The Rascalz (Miguel & Zachary Wentz) are one of four teams who will be competing in a ladder match for the TNA Tag Team titles at Slammiversary. Nic & Ryan Nemeth are defending their belts against Miguel & Wentz, The Hardy Boyz, and First Class (AJ Francis & KC Navarro).

Miguel is a former Tag Team Champion and X-Division Champion in TNA. He and Wentz held the tag titles for two months from August-October 2023.

UBS Arena in Long Island, New York is hosting Slammiversary. The PPV will be headlined by Trick Williams vs. Joe Hendry vs. Mike Santana in a triple threat match for the TNA World Championship.

Double title bout one of four new matches added to TNA Slammiversary

The NXT Women’s Championship and TNA Knockouts Championship will be on the line in a double title match at TNA Slammiversary.

TNA announced during Thursday’s Impact that Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich will face the NXT Women’s Champion at Slammiversary in a match with both titles on the line:

Jacy Jayne is the current champion, but must defend the title against Jordynne Grace at WWE Evolution 2 on Sunday, July 13. The winner of that match will face Slamovich with both belts at stake.

Three more new matches have also been added to the Slammiversary lineup.

In a Knockouts Tag Team title bout, The IInspiration’s Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay will challenge Ash by Elegance and Heather by Elegance for their titles.

Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali, plus Indi Hartwell vs. Tessa Blanchard in a pair of grudge matches have also been added to the Sunday, July 20 pay-per-view lineup.

TNA Slammiversary, Sunday, July 20 on pay-per-view —

  • TNA World Champion Trick Williams defends against Joe Hendry and Mike Santana in a triple threat
  • Double title match: TNA Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich vs. NXT Women’s Champion (Jacy Jayne or Jordynne Grace)

  • TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions Ash by Elegance and HEather by Elegance defend against The IInspiration (Cassie Lee & Jessica McKay)
  • Mustafa Ali vs. Cedric Alexander
  • Tessa Blanchard vs. Indi Hartwell

Mike Santana added to TNA Slammiversary World title match

Mike Santana has been granted his request and added to the World title match at TNA Slammiversary.

After a segment on last week’s Impact where he demanded to be added to the Trick Williams vs. Joe Hendry World title bout set for the July 20 Slammiversary pay-per-view, TNA announced Monday night that director of authority Santino Marella had granted his request. The TNA World title match at Slammiversary will now have Williams defending against Hendry and Santana in a three-way.

Santana responded to the announcement with a social media post on X:

“I’ve worked my entire adult life for opportunities like this… FIRST EVER PUERTO RICAN TNA WORLD CHAMPION sounds pretty badass to me!!!”

The updated Slammiversary lineup so far:

TNA Slammiversary, Sunday, July 20 —

  • TNA World Champion Trick Williams defends against Joe Hendry and Mike Santana in a three-way
  • TNA Tag Team Champions The Nemeths (Nic Nemeth & Ryan Nemeth) defend against The Hardys (Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy), The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz), and First Class (AJ Francis & KC Navarro) in a ladder match
  • TNA X-Division Champion Moose defends against Leon Slater

Four-way Tag Team title ladder match set for TNA Slammiversary

While it has yet to be formally announced, Matt Hardy revealed that he and Jeff Hardy (seen above) will challenge for the Tag Team titles at next month’s TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view.

During an appearance on Busted Open Wednesday, Hardy announced the news, adding that he and his brother won’t be alone as First Class (AJ Francis & KC Navarro) and The Rascalz will join them in challenging reigning titleholders Nic & Ryan Nemeth.

There’s an added twist: it will be a ladder match — the Hardys’ speciality.

The Nemeths ended the Hardys’ 183-day run with the titles at April’s Rebellion. Of the three challengers, Francis and Navarro are the only team to never have held the gold. Navarro is currently out of action with a dislocated left knee.

X-Division title match official for TNA Slammiversary

The first match is official for TNA Slammiversary and it will be for the X-Division Championship.

TNA announced during Thursday’s Impact that X-Division Champion Moose will defend his title against Leon Slater on the Sunday, July 20 Slammiversary pay-per-view.

Slater picked up a victory over Jason Hotch on Thursday’s Impact as his title challenge was revealed in a picture-in-picture segment during the contest.

Although not yet official, another title match appears to be set for Slammiversary following Thursday’s Impact.

The returning Killer Kelly won the 8-4-1 match on Thursday’s episode to earn a future Knockouts World title shot against Masha Slamovich, her former MK Ultra tag partner.

A Champions Challenge match set for next week’s Impact could provide further clarity to the Slammiversary lineup, with World Champion Trick Williams, X-Division Champion Moose, Tag Team Champions Nic Nemeth and Ryan Nemeth, and International Champion Steve Maclin facing a team of potential challengers in Joe Hendry, Elijah, Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel of The Rascalz, and Mike Santana.

Slammiversary is set for the UBS Arena on Long Island, New York on Sunday, July 20.

Nic Nemeth wins TNA World title at Slammiversary

Nic Nemeth can now call himself TNA World Champion after he survived a six-way elimination match to win the title at Saturday’s Slammiversary in Montreal.

Nemeth, also the reigning AAA Mega Champion, picked up the victory after pinning Frankie Kazarian in a match that also included former World Champions Josh Alexander and Steve Maclin, Joe Hendry and reigning champion Moose.

The big surprise came when Hendry pinned Moose which ensured there would be a new champion. Alexander then eliminated Hendry to the surprise of some who may have assumed the popular star would leave Montreal with the title given his crossover success in WWE NXT.

In the process, Alexander went heel as he kicked Hendry low to lead into his C4 for the pin. The Montreal fans were not happy with that outcome, but got a small bit of satisfaction when Alexander was pinned by Nemeth shortly afterward.

The loss ended Moose’s 190-day second reign as champion after defeating Alex Shelley for the gold at January’s Hard to Kill. Going into Saturday, he had ten title defenses under his belt.

It was the fourth and final title change of the night as the X-Division, Tag Team and Digital Media/International Heavyweight titles all found new homes in Montreal.

‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey wins X-Division title at TNA Slammiversary, Earl Hebner makes cameo

Aided by Earl Hebner of all people, “Speedball” Mike Bailey is once again TNA X-Division Champion after regaining the title at Slammiversary in Montreal, Canada — Bailey’s hometown.

With the referee knocked out of the match late, champion Mustafa Ali called for Hebner to come out from the back and then applied a sharpshooter to Bailey, looking for Hebner to call the match as he did in the infamous 1997 WWE “Montreal Screwjob” with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Hebner, however, hesitated and refused to do so which enraged Ali.

Bailey rallied and eventually locked on his own sharpshooter that won him the match and the title.

It’s Bailey’s second run with the title and the first since October 2022 when he held the title for 110 days.

The defeat ends the 149-day reign for Ali who first won the gold from Chris Sabin at February’s No Surrender. He successfully defended the title seven times.

To this point, it’s the third title change on the pay-per-view as there are new Tag Team Champions and a new Digital Media/International Heavyweight Champion.

TNA Slammiversary notes: Alex Hammerstone returns, title changes, marriage proposal

Image: TNA Wrestling

After several months away, Alex Hammerstone made his return at Saturday’s TNA Slammiversary in a surprise appearance.

On-screen authority figure Santino Marella announced during the pre-show that he had a surprise for everyone with a new match: that being Hammerstone vs. former TNA World Champion Eric Young. However, Hammerstone took the loss to Young — his first since a defeat to Josh Alexander at April’s Rebellion.

Hammerstone’s last on-screen appearance was on the May 2nd TNA Impact in a street fight win over Deaner. The former MLW Champion was active on the indies throughout his time away, recently filling in for the injured Matt Cardona on an Australian tour. He was scheduled for May’s Under Siege but was pulled due to being medically uncleared to compete.

**********

For the first time since March, ABC can once again call themselves TNA Tag Team Champions.

Chris Bey & Ace Austin defeated incumbent champions The System (Eddie Edwards & Brian Myers) to kick off their third reign with the gold, picking up the victory after ABC hit the 1-2-Sweet on Myers after Edwards tended to his wife, Alisha, after he pulled Myers out of the way of a Bey Art of Finesse that she got hit with instead.

It’s a measure of revenge for ABC as Myers and Edwards defeated them for the title at March’s Sacrifice, successfully defending the titles four times.

**********

TNA also has a new Digital Media and International Heavyweight Champion as PCO is the double titleholder after defeating AJ Francis. The win came after Francis was chokeslammed onto a pile of chairs and then hit with a PCOsault for the defeat.

Afterward, PCO proposed to recent love interest Steph De Lander who accepted.

It’s PCO’s first-ever title in TNA. Francis recently revived the International Heavyweight title after it was defunct since 1987.

********

Rosemary made her return to the promotion during the Knockouts title match between champion Jordynne Grace and Ash by Elegance.

The former Knockouts Champion/Knockouts Tag Team Champion ran off Ash’s second The Personal Concierge, wielding a knife.

She has been off TV since April’s Rebellion but did wrestle a match against Masha Slamovich at June’s TV tapings that has yet to make air.

The main pay-per-view card kicks off with a shot inside the sold out building in Montreal, which features a bigger live crowd in attendance than any TNA show in the past decade.

Due to a power outage, we join the main card in progress. The opening match results for the PPV are as follows:

* The Rascalz (Trey Miguel, Zachary Wentz & Wes Lee defeated No Quarter Catch Crew (Charlie Dempsey, Tavion Heights & Myles Borne)

PCO defeated AJ Francis in a Montreal Street Fight to capture the TNA Digital Media & Canadian International Heavyweight Championship

AJ Francis of First Class makes his way out for a double title tilt. The cinematic experience-style black-and-white ring entrance for PCO is next for this TNA Digital Media and Canadian International Heavyweight Championship contest.

“The French-Canadian Frankenstein” emerges from his trademark coffin to a rock star reaction from the Montreal crowd. Fans chant “PCO! PCO!” as he makes his way down to the ring. The bell sounds and off we go. PCO immediately charges and dives into Francis to start things off with a bang.

He hits a big spot on the hard part of the ring apron and then hits a top-rope PCO-sault for a huge pop and chants of “PCO! PCO!” from the crowd. He pulls out a table from under the ring as Rich Swann hits PCO from behind. PCO no-sells it and turns around as fans chant “You f*cked up!” at him.

The temporary distraction is enough for Francis to take over control of the offense. He rocks PCO and then Swann helps him set up a second table next to the initial table that PCO pulled out moments ago. PCO recovers and fights back before anything happens.

Francis pulls a trash can out from under the ring and blasts an unsuspecting PCO with it to shift the momentum back in his favor. After some back-and-forth action, PCO throws Francis off the top-rope through the side-by-side tables, which quickly explode into 100,000 toothpicks and wood splinters.

Joey Bishop beats down PCO with a steel chair. He hoists PCO up and hits a Razor’s Edge on the unfolded chair in a spot that looked absolutely awful for “The French-Canadian Frankenstein.” If he’s not injured, it’s a miracle.

Sami Callihan tries to come out for the save, but is attacked by Swann and thrown into the ring, which is filled with chairs, baseball bats, trash cans and other goodies. Swann raises a baseball bat above his head but before he can use it, Rhino’s theme hits and “The War Machine” comes out to a big pop.

He hits a gore on Swann that turns the First Class member inside-out. Fans react big to that and then shift to another “PCO! PCO!” chant. PCO somehow rises to his feet and throws a lifeless Francis back into the ring. He climbs to the top-rope backwards and hits a big PCO-sault, but only gets a two-count.

Everyone in the building bought into that as the finish. Francis hits a blatant thumb to the eye of PCO and follows it up with a tombstone piledriver. He crosses PCO’s arms for The Undertaker-style pin, but PCO kicks out.

Francis calls for the Down Payment chokeslam, but PCO reverses and chokeslams Francis onto a pile of chairs. He climbs back to the top-rope and hits another PCO-sault, this time for the win. After the match, Steph De Lander comes out and joins PCO in the ring.

She gets on the microphone and gets down on one knee. She proposes. “PCO, will you marry me?” PCO says yes in French. The commentators hype an unholy undead wedding coming up with these two in the future.

Jordynne Grace defeated Ash By Elegance to retain the TNA Knockouts Championship

The pre-match video package for the TNA Knockouts Championship match airs to set the stage for the next match of the evening. After it wraps up, George Iceman brings out Ash By Elegance. The reigning, defending champion Jordynne Grace is out next.

The bell gets things started and after some back-and-forth action, we see Iceman getting involved from the ringside area. Out of nowhere, Rosemary comes down through the crowd as the referee ejects Iceman and sends him to the back. Rosemary reveals she has a knife and chases behind Iceman with it.

Back in the ring, Ash is dominating the offense after capitalizing on the chaos outside of the ring moments ago. She stomps on the spine of a grounded Grace repeatedly on the hard part of the ring apron. Grace fights back and hits Shades of Samoa, which is essentially a Muscle Buster, for a two-count.

Grace and Ash head to the top-rope, where “The Juggernaut” hits a huge stalled super-plex on Ash and follows up with a Juggernaut Jackhammer for a close two-count. Ash fights back and hits some big high spots, but crashes on the raised knees of Grace after attempting her top-rope finisher.

We see a big Sliced Bread spot off the top-rope by Ash for a super close two-count of her own. Following another minute or two of back-and-forth action, Grace hits her Juggernaut Driver for the pinfall. With the win, Grace retains her TNA Knockouts Championship in a hard-fought battle.

“Speedball” Mike Bailey defeated Mustafa Ali to capture the TNA X-Division Championship

After the pre-match video package wraps up, we see the “X-Factors” tale of the tape-style graphic flash on the screen to get us ready for our next match of the evening, which features the TNA X-Division Championship on-the-line.

The crowd gave “Speedball” Mike Bailey a rock star reaction coming out, and again when being introduced by the ring announcer before the bell. After things get underway, Bailey jumps into the early offensive lead, taking it to Mustafa Ali as the Montreal fans eat it up with a spoon.

Bailey sweeps Ali’s legs out from under him on the ring apron and then hits a wild middle rope moonsault to Ali on the outside of the ring. Ali takes over control of the offense a bit after that, while dealing with “F*ck Ali!” chants from the fans.

Bailey ends up recovering and hitting a huge shooting star press off the top-rope for a close nearfall attempt. Fans chant “Fight forever!” as the action continues. Ali hits a big super kick to a grounded Bailey that sends him to the floor.

Ali and Bailey end up on the top-rope, where Bailey hits a Super Spanish Fly that sees the two land on a pile of Ali’s Secret Service guys at ringside. Bailey goes for another shooting star press back in the ring, but after leaping off the top, he flips right into a big knee from Ali.

“Speedball” hits a big spot and follows up with his top-rope finisher. He goes for the pin and it looked like he got the three, with the big pop and his theme music even playing. Unfortunately, Ali got his foot on the ropes in time and the referee saw it.

Bailey tries hopping back on Ali for the win, but Ali hangs on. Bailey ends up accidentally knocking out the referee. Four of Ali’s Secret Service guards surround the ring and one-by-one, Bailey takes them all out, only for Campaign Singh to knock him out with a belt shot.

Ali follows up with a top-rope 450 splash. He hits a second one and then the referee, who is still out of it, begins counting, only to be yanked out to the floor before he hits three. A masked man removes his mask to reveal he is Trent Seven.

Seven takes out Ali’s guards and hits Campaign Singh with a DDT to the floor. Ali dives through the ropes to take out Seven. He grabs a steel chair from under the ring and blasts Seven’s leg with it. Ali brings out Earl Hebner, the infamous “You Screwed Bret” referee from the Montreal Screwjob. The crowd boos like crazy. Ali puts Bailey in the Sharpshooter, but Hebner hesitates letting history repeat itself.

Bailey ends up escaping and locking Ali in the Sharpshooter and Hebner calls for the bell. We have a new TNA X-Division Champion. “And Earl Hebner redeems himself in Montreal,” says Tom Hannifan on commentary with an excitement that doesn’t match the 27 years that have already gone by and the 10,000 callbacks to this over the years.

Nic Nemeth won a six-way main event to become the new TNA World Champion

After a backstage segment sees Santino Marella make a match for the post-Slammiversary episode of TNA iMPACT, the pre-match video package airs to set the stage for the six-way world championship main event of the evening.

All six guys stare each other down after the bell sounds to get things started, all-the-while the sold out Montreal crowd is loudly chanting “We Believe!” Moose tries aligning with Frankie Kazarian, but he’s having none of it.

Instead, all five challengers rush Moose and gang up on him in the corner. They knock him out of the ring and then everyone swarms on Kazarian and does the same thing. Hendry hits a big stalled suplex on Kazarian for an even louder “We Believe!” chant.

Nemeth and Hendry end up as the only two left in the ring after Alexander and Maclin brawl out to the floor. Alexander gets some showcase spotlight time, hitting his Kurt Angle-style series of suplexes on any-and-everything that moves.

Nemeth gets another turn for a series of high spots that pops the packed house in Montreal. Hendry takes over and takes control of the offense for some crowd-pleasing moves until Maclin takes over and gets his turn in the offensive driver’s seat.

Moose ends up taking over and he hits a big spear to Maclin for the first elimination of the match. Maclinb now heads to the back and the other five continue until one man is left standing as the TNA World Champion.

Fans sing “Hey hey hey, goodbye!” as Maclin heads to the back flipping the crowd off. Once again we see Kazarian try to strike a deal with Moose. Moose hits a uranage instead. Moose trades shots with Hendry before sending him into the turnbuckles with authority.

Hendry looks for the Standing Ovation on Moose, but Moose fights back and hits a power bomb. Moose and Alexander brawl and then Moose sits him on the top-rope. Moose slips off the ropes, prompting the crowd to get on his case briefly.

He hits a power bomb to Kazarian from the floor to the hard part of the ring apron. All of the guys end up brawling in different spots around the ring. Moose, Kazarian and Nemeth end up at the top of the entrance ramp. Kaz and Nemeth battle back-and-forth teasing a bump off the stage.

In the end, it was Nemeth who hit Kaz with a super kick that sent him sailing off the stage and crashing and burning through a table way down below. Back in the ring, Moose Donkey Kong’s Kazarian into the mat and then chokeslams Nemeth onto him.

Hendry appears behind Moose and nearly takes him out for an elimination, however the champ hangs on. Hendry hits a fall-away slam on Alexander and then one on Nemeth. Moments later, Hendry hits his Standing Ovation on Moose for a pinfall.

Moose is eliminated. The crowd goes nuts as a new champion is now guaranteed by the end of this match. As the action continues, Alexander blasts Hendry with a blatant low blow and then a C4 Spike to pin him for another surprise elimination.

Fans go from booing to very, very loudly chanting “Bullsh*t! Bullsh*t!” Alexander continues to viciously beat down Hendry after eliminating him. Alexander yells about being the heart and soul of TNA. Nemeth ends up eliminating him seconds later.

We’re down to Nic Nemeth and Frankie Kazarian as the final two. Kazarian comes close to finishing Nemeth off a few times, however in the end, it was Nemeth who connected with the Danger Zone finisher for the victory. With the win, Nemeth is the new TNA World Champion.

The reaction from the crowd, who clearly wanted a Hendry win tonight, was pretty flat. Ryan Nemeth, Jordynne Grace, PCO, Steph De Lander, ABC and others come out to celebrate with Nemeth in his crowning moment in TNA. That’s how the 2024 TNA Slammiversary show goes off the air.
