AEW Rampage live results: Orange Cassidy vs. Johnny TV International title match

The AEW International title will be on the line as part of Friday’s AEW Rampage.

Orange Cassidy will be gunning for his 28th title defense as he faces Johnny TV of QTV. The former John Morrison is looking for his first AEW gold of any kind while Cassidy is two months away from a year-long reign as champion.

In the second of three qualifying matches for an AEW Women’s title four-way at All In, Saraya will take on Skye Blue. The winner will join champion Hikaru Shida and Toni Storm who have already qualified with one final match (Britt Baker vs. The Bunny) taking place this Wednesday.

Darby Allin will face Brian Cage of The Mogul Embassy days after it was announced that Allin & Sting will take on the group’s Swerve Strickland & AR Fox in a coffin match at All In.

ROH Tag Team Champions Aussie Open will face The Outrunners in non-title action.

Taped in Columbus, Ohio.

Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho and Excalibur were on commentary.

Darby Allin defeated Brian Cage (w/ Prince Nana) (10:46)

Allin started out fast with Cage and hit him with a high speed tope, but Cage soon overpowered Allin to take control. On the floor, Cage picked up Allin for a vertical suplex, then walked up the ringsteps and dumped Allin back in the ring. Cage then dead-lifted Allin into a superplex while standing on the middle rope.

The fight went back to the floor. Allin had Cage in a sleeper, and Cage broke the hold by throwing himself and Allin through the time keeper’s table. Cage dumped Allin onto the ring apron with a back suplex.

Cage dominated Allin through the split-screen break. After the break, Cage hit a pair of powerbombs for a near fall. Allin tripped Cage on the ring apron with his belt, then came off the top with a Coffin Drop that sent both guys tumbling to the floor. Back in the ring, Allin hit a code red for a near fall. After interference from Nana, Cage hit the F-10 on Allin, but Cage didn’t hook the leg and Allin kicked out. Cage took Allin up to the middle rope for what looked like a super samoan drop, but Allin countered that into a crucifix bomb. Cage went for a suplex, but Allin caught Cage with a small package to get the pin.

After the match, Luchasaurus ran in and chokeslammed Allin to remind the audience about the only match booked for All Out. Christian (with the TNT belt over his shoulder) watched approvingly on a monitor in the back.

–In the back, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D told Renee Paquette she respects Bunny working hard to come back, but she will beat her next week to take her place in the “historical” women’s title match at All In.

– A brief video package highlighted NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston’s run in the G1 tournament.

Orange Cassidy defeated Johnny TV (with the QTV crew) to retain the International Title (8:25)

Harley Cameron sang the entrance music for Johnny TV. This was Orange Cassidy’s 28th straight successful title defense. Tony Schiavone chided Jericho on commentary for the way the Jericho Appreciation Society abandoned him on Wednesday.

Harley Cameron distracted the referee with her feminine wiles, and the QTV guys entered the ring from all sides to jump Cassidy. Just as they were about to pounce, Cassidy turned the referee around, and he ejected the entire QTV crew from ringside. Wheeler Yuta came out of the crowd to distract Cassidy, and TV caught him with a springboard kick to take control.

During the split-screen break, Wheeler Yuta joined the commentary team. Yuta continued the tradition started by William Regal of calling Excalibur “The Man in the Mask.”

Cassidy went for a tornado DDT, but TV blocked it and hit a neckbreaker for a near fall. TV then hit an even more convoluted neckbreaker for another near fall. TV missed “the Superstation” (his finisher) and Cassidy came off the top with a diving DDT. Cassidy hit the tornado DDT, an Orange Punch adn the Beach Break to get the pinfall.

After the match, Yuta slowly skulked back to ringside, and Cassidy grabbed the house mic to challenge Yuta. Soon the rest of the BCC surrounded the ring. The BCC didn’t attack Cassidy and leave him beaten and bloody (like they could have, according to Yuta), but instead Yuta challenged Cassidy for the International Title at Dynamte in Nashville next week. That should be very good.

– Ian Riccaboni ran down the history of the Ring of Honor World Tag Team championship. This was unintentionally the best commercial for HonorClub they’ve ever done.

ROH World Tag Team Champions Aussie Open defeated The Outrunners (2:12)

The Outrunners are Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd and they’re “channeling the 1980’s” according to their graphic. Aussie Open destroyed the Outrunners. I don’t think the Outrunners got one offensive move the entire match, and Aussie Open won with the Coriolis.

After the match, Aussie Open mocked MJF and Adam Cole (which got the crowd to chant “Double Clothesline!”) and accepted the challenge from MJF and Cole for Zero Hour.

– Jeff Jarrett announced the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre Death Match Championship” as a tie-in to a video game that’s coming out. Leatherface may be at Dynamite for a Death Match between Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Hardy. Spoiler alert: the winner will be Jeff.

Saraya (w/ the Outcasts) v. Syke Blue to qualify for the AEW World Women’s title match at All In.

Blue and Saraya went back and forth exchanging pin attempts early. Blue went for a sunset flip, but Saraya shifted her weight to cradle Blue, which she countered by shifting her weight back, and this went back and forth for a bit. Saraya went to the floor to regroup. Blue tried to follow her out with a cannonball, but Saraya dodged her and Blue hit the floor.

Saraya got all the heat during the split-screen break. Saraya got a near fall after a pair of knees. Saraya then locked in a chinlock. Blue came back with a tijeras and her own running knee for a near fall. Blue escaped a suplex attempt, hit a superkick and caught Saraya with the Code Blue, but Toni Storm distracted the ref. Ruby Soho got Blue’s attention on the other side of the ring and sprayed her in the face with spray paint. Saraya hit her old finisher, the “Rampaige” and got the pinfall. She ended Rampage with a Rampaige! I love it. Excalibur might have called it the “Good Night” instead, which I like a little less but I understand.

After the match, the Outcasts beat up on Saraya to end the show.

Final Thoughts:

Happy two-year anniversary for Rampage. This wasn’t as exciting as that first episode two years ago, but it was a perfectly cromulent hour of wrestling.

AEW Rampage spoilers: Orange Cassidy vs. Johnny TV, Saraya vs. Skye Blue

The following are spoilers for this Friday’s AEW Rampage, taped after Wednesday’s Dynamite in Columbus, Ohio.

  • In a four-woman tournament to advance to a four-way AEW Women’s title match at All In, Saraya defeated Skye Blue. Afterward, Toni Storm and Ruby Soho joined in an attack on Blue until Madison Rayne returned to make the save. Rayne has been out of action with an injury.
  • ROH Tag Team Champions Aussie Open defeated The Outrunners, accepting the challenge from MJF & Adam Cole for All In.

CM Punk, Ricky Starks to appear on AEW Collision

One week after Ricky Starks defeated CM Punk in the finals of the men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament, both men will appear on Saturday’s AEW Collision.

Starks will be on hand in Newark, New Jersey, to celebrate his victory while, according to Excalibur on AEW Rampage, Punk has said he will be in Newark “and looking for a fight.”

Following their staredown with title challengers Adam Cole & MJF on Wednesday, AEW Tag Team Champions FTR will have some comments ahead of their title defense next Saturday on Collision.

The men that failed to wrest the titles from FTR last Saturday — Bullet Club Gold’s Jay White & Juice Robinson — will take on Action Andretti & Darius Martin as they look to get back on the winning track.

In a similar situation, Taya Valkyrie will look to rebound from her loss to AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm last Saturday as she takes on Skye Blue.

The new additions join the previously announced Trios title match between champions House of Black and The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn.

Here’s the full lineup:

  • Taya Valkyrie vs. Skye Blue
  • CM Punk and Ricky Starks appearances
  • FTR appearance
  • Action Andretti & Darius Martin vs. Bullet Club Gold (Jay White & Juice Robinson)
  • AEW Trios Champions House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King & Buddy Matthews) defend against The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn

Skye Blue advances in AEW Owen Hart Foundation tournament

Skye Blue has advanced in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

On Friday’s Rampage, Blue was the first to advance in the tournament, defeating Anna Jay AS after hitting the code blue. As a result, she will face the winner of a match between Britt Baker and Ruby Soho that will take place on next week’s AEW Dynamite.

Two more matches in the opening round of the women’s Owen Hart Foundation are set to take place in the coming days. Willow Nightingale will face Nyla Rose on Saturday’s Collision. The winner of that match will meet the winner of a match between Athena and Billie Starkz that will take place on the Forbidden Door Zero Hour pre-show that takes place on Sunday. The men’s tournament will begin at Forbidden Door, when CM Punk takes on Satoshi Kojima in an opening round match.

The finals of both the men’s and women’s tournaments will take place on the July 15 edition of Collision at the Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Skye Blue reflects on AEW Collision hometown victory

While the AEW Collision premiere was a homecoming for CM Punk, it also was one for Skye Blue.

The 23-year-old Blue teamed with Willow Nightingale to defeat Toni Storm & Ruby Soho on the Collision premiere. In her hometown of Chicago, Blue pinned Soho to win the match.

Blue (Skye Dolecki) reflected on the moment in an Instagram post on Monday. Blue wrote that she still can’t wrap her head around the feelings and emotions that she went through, but she’s so grateful for the opportunity to show the world who Skye Blue really is.

**WARNING THIS IS GOING TO BE SAPPY AF**

If you would have told 17 year old trainee Skye that at the age of 23 she would pin Ruby Soho on the debut of AEW Collision in a SOLD OUT United Center, in my hometown of Chicago, AND my ass (quite literally) broke the internet….. I would have never believed you.

I still can’t wrap my head around all the feelings and emotions that went through me from the moments leading up to walking out onto that stage to me just typing this caption. I am so grateful for the opportunity to show the world who Skye Blue really is, and I can’t wait to keep making you all proud. I love pro wrestling so effin much, it’s my life, it’s all I know, and I can’t wait to wrestle til I’m 85 years old still trying to bump and wrestle to put smiles on everyone’s faces. Let’s f*cking go

AEW officially announced the signing of Blue this April. She had been making appearances for the company since 2021.

Earlier this month, Blue defeated Nyla Rose, Britt Baker, and Mercedes Martinez in a four-way match to become the number one contender to the AEW Women’s World Championship. Blue got her title shot on Dynamite last Wednesday but lost to Storm.

Wrestling Weekly: The time limit draw that (almost) never ended

On this week’s Wrestling Weekly, Les Thatcher and I talk all things AEW and with WWE’s top storyline involving The Bloodline.

We take a look at this past week’s AEW Dynamite and how MJF vs. Adam Cole might have been brought up a notch, which inspires a great territory story about the time limit draw that nearly never ended.

Les and I also look at debut of AEW Collision this Saturday and Jey Uso still has a decision to make.

Thanks for listening and have a great weekend~!

Skye Blue match added to ROH TV lineup

A new match has been added to the lineup for ROH TV this week.

Skye Blue vs. Viva Van is now advertised for the show.

Blue challenged Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship on Dynamite last night. She appeared to have the match won at one point after hitting Storm with a Code Red but Ruby Soho prevented the pin by distracting the referee. Storm would pick up the submission victory with a Texas Cloverleaf not long after.

This will technically be Viva Van’s ROH debut, although she challenged Mercedes Martinez for the ROH Women’s title last year on AEW Dark. Van is 0-7 in AEW, having last wrestled for the promotion in January. She is also the current Future Stars of Wrestling Women’s Champion.

ROH TV 6/15 lineup:

  • ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe defends against Matt Sydal
  • ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Embassy (Brian Cage, Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun) defends against AR Fox, Darius Martin & Action Andretti
  • ROH Women’s Champion Athena vs. Trish Adora in a non-title match
  • The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch) and Stu Grayson vs. Dalton Castle & The Boys (Brandon & Brent Tate)
  • Iron Savages (Bronson & Bear) vs. Tracy Williams & Rhett Titus
  • Daniel Garcia vs. The DKC
  • Diamante vs. Teal Piper
  • Mark Briscoe vs. Anthony Henry
  • Tony Nese vs. Serpentico
  • Nick Comoroto vs. Deimos
  • Miranda Alize vs. Notorious Mimi
  • Skye Blue vs. Viva Van

Toni Storm vs. Skye Blue Women’s title match set for AEW Dynamite

The next title challenger for AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm is official.

Skye Blue picked up a win on Friday’s Rampage in a four-way that included Britt Baker, Nyla Rose and Mercedes Martinez to earn her title opportunity that will come this Wednesday on Dynamite.

Blue earned the victory by pinning Rose as Baker and Martinez fought on the outside of the ring. She will be looking for her first AEW title of any kind.

After regaining the title at last month’s Double or Nothing, Storm will be looking for the third defense of the gold.

In another new match announced Friday, TNT Champion Wardlow will defend against Jake Hager. This is Wardlow’s first match since defending the title against Christian Cage at last month’s Double or Nothing.

The new additions join the previously announced MJF vs. Adam Cole AEW World title eliminator match, the Blackpool Combat Club vs. The Elite trios match, and eight-man tag team match featuring the return of Sting.

Here’s the current card for Washington, DC:

  • AEW World title eliminator: MJF vs. Adam Cole
  • AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm defends against Skye Blue
  • TNT Champion Wardlow defends against Jake Hager
  • The Elite (Hangman Page & The Young Bucks) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta)
  • Sting, Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy & Keith Lee vs. Mogul Embassy (Swerve Strickland, Brian Cage, Kaun & Toa Liona)

AEW Rampage live results: Four-way Women’s title no. 1 contender’s match

Four women will vie for an AEW Women’s title shot on Friday’s Rampage on TNT from Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In a four-way former champions Britt Baker and Nyla Rose will face Skye Blue and former Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Mercedes Martinez. The winner will challenge current titleholder Toni Storm on this Wednesday’s Dynamite.

The plot will continue to thicken in the AEW trios division with two matches.

In one, ROH Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers (Penta & Rey Fenix) will unite with Bandido against former Firm teammates Ethan Page, Lee Moriarty & Big Bill. In the other bout, former AEW Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) and Billy Gunn battle the Spanish Announce Project (Serpentico, Angelico & Luther).

Powerhouse Hobbs will return to action ahead of an anticipated move to the impending Collision show on Saturdays.

Our coverage begins at 10 PM Eastern.

Taped in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone were on commentary.

Bandido & The Lucha Brothers vs. Big Bill, Lee Moriarty, and Ethan Page

Ethan Page was teaming with his former partners in The Firm, even though his contract is now under the control of Matt Hardy. Because this match was signed before Hardy got control of the contract, you see. Page hit a nice-looking rana on Rey Fenix before tags were made to Bandido and Moriarty. Bandido hit Moriarty with a tornio and then a tijeras, before tags were made to Big Bill and Penta. Penta showed no fear facing Bill. Bill kept going for a choke on Penta, who kept breaking free with kicks. Pent tried for a tope through the ropes on Bill, who cut him off with a right hand. Bill whipped Penta into the barricade, and soon everyone was brawling around the ring.

After a split screen break, Bill overpowered Bandido in the corner. Bill hit Bandido with a boot, and Page hoisted Bandido from the mat into a powerslam for a near fall. Bandido slipped out of a powerbomb attempt and hit an enziguri, then got the tag to Ray Fenix. Fenix sent Page to the floor with a superkick, then the Lucha Bros took out Bill with a series of double team superkicks. Penta catapulted Bandio over the ropes into a torino onto their opponents on the floor. Back in the ring, Page took a beat from the Lucha Bros. Bill ate some more superkicks, and Moriarty caught a cutter from Fenix.

The Lucha Bros hit the Fear Factor on the ring apron on Moriarty. Page got his knees up when Bandido went for a splash. Page set up the Ego’s Edge, but the Hardys came out to chastise Page for not wearing the special arm sleeves that Jeff Hardy gifted Page. Page pulled his brand new arm sleeves up, but this distraction allowed Bandido to hit the 21-plex and get the pinfall.

– A QTV segment. They can’t think of an edgy idea for Collision that hasn’t already been done, so they agree to send Powerhouse Hobbs out to beat someone up.

Powerhouse Hobbs (w/ QTV) defeated Caleb Crush (1:11)

Crush is from Colorado Springs, which is probably convenient for him since he’ll know where the hospital is. Hobbs destroyed this poor kid. Crush caught Hobbs with an enziguri. Hobbs bodyblocked him into the ropes and put him through the mat with a spinebuster to get the pinfall.

– Rene Paquette interviewed Arn Anderson and Wardlow about the beating Brock Anderson took at the hands of Christian Cage and Luchasaurus. Wardlow promised to make Cage and Luchasuarus pay, and talked about an open challenge he has next Wednesday with Jake Hager for the TNT title.

The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn defeated Serpentico, Angelico, and Luther

Collectively, Serpentico, Angelico and Luther are known as SAP, and in his rap Max Caster revealed what that really stood for.

The first four minutes of this match were just goofiness around scissoring spots before they went to a split-screen break.

After the break, Billy Gunn got the hot tag. Angelico caught Gunn with an enziguri and Luther got a near fall. Bowens got the tag and hit Luther with the Arrival, and Caster dropped the big elbow to get the pin. As a match, this was nothing but the crowd was happy.

– A Dynamite recap.

– Rene Paquette brought out Jeff Jarrett’s crew for an interview. Karen Jarrett grabbed the mic and demanded Aubrey Edwards come out. Edwards came out with Mark Briscoe. AEW won’t sanction a one-on-one match between Edwards and Karen (because Aubrey is a referee and Karen “sure as hell isn’t a wrestler.”). But Mark announced that they will sanction a mixed trios match, The Jarretts & Jay Lethal against Aubrey Edwards, Mark Briscoe… and Papa Briscoe

Skye Blue defeated Nyla Rose (w/ Marina Shafir),  Britt Baker (w/ Hikaru Shida) and Mercedes Martinez in a four-way match to become the No. 1 contender for the AEW World Women’s Championship.

Toni Storm and Ruby Soho were shown watching the match in the back.

Shafir interfered and tried to choke out Martinez, and Shida chased her to the back with a kendo stick.

After the split-screen break, Rose had Martinez hung up in the ropes for her guillotine legdrop, but Baker pushed her off the ropes to the floor. Baker hit Martinez with a slingblade for a one count. Blue and Baker exchanged forearms in the middle of the ring, and Blue got a near fall after an enziguri. Baker went for the lockjaw on Martinez, and Blue added a half crab, but Rose broke the submission attempt up.

Blue and Barker hit a double superkick on Rose. Rose chokeslammed Baker and went for the pin, which Martinez broke up with a running knee. Baker gave Rose a stomp, and Martinez dumped Baker to the floor. Baker pulled Martinez out. Blue then snuck back in the ring and hit Rose with the Code Blue and got the surprise pinfall. Blue teared up after getting the surprise win.

As a result, Sky Blue will face Toni Storm for the AEW World Women’s championship on Dynamite Wednesday. Toni Storm reacted to the win by spray painting a green “L” on the monitor in the back.

Women’s World title match set for next week’s Ring of Honor TV

A Women’s World Championship match is set for the May 11 episode of Ring of Honor TV.

As announced during this week’s show, Athena will defend the Women’s World title against Skye Blue on next week’s episode.

Athena defeated Angelica Risk in a Proving Ground match on this week’s show, then called out Skye Blue. Later in the episode, Blue answered the callout in a backstage promo segment, challenging Athena to a title bout for next week. Athena then responded to the challenge in a separate backstage promo later, accepting the match and noting that it will take place next week.

Blue has won four consecutive singles matches in ROH, and remains undefeated overall in ROH with a 5-0 total record. Blue also defeated Adena Steele in a dark match at this week’s AEW Dynamite taping.

Athena is 11-0 in ROH, and has held the Women’s World title since defeating Mercedes Martinez for the gold at Final Battle last December.

Skye Blue officially signs with AEW

Skye Blue is officially All Elite.

Shortly before Friday’s live edition of AEW Rampage, Tony Khan confirmed on Twitter that Blue has been signed to the company.

“Some great news for Easter Weekend: One of @AEW’s rising homegrown stars @Skyebyee is officially All Elite! Wishing everyone the best on Good Friday!,” Khan wrote.

Blue started training in 2017, working in the Illinois independent scene. She started to appear on AEW shows in 2021, losing to Britt Baker on the April 7 edition of AEW Dark Elevation. After her match against Red Velvet on the September 3 edition of AEW Dark, she was invited by Tony Khan to compete in the Casino Battle Royal two days later at All Out that was eventually won by Ruby Soho.

After All Out, Blue started to make more appearances for the company. Last year, she competed in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s tournament, losing to Jamie Hayter in a qualifying match. Her most recent match on Dynamite was on March 22, losing to Toni Storm.

AEW suffers power failure during Dark: Elevation taping, two matches affected

AEW suffered a power failure during the Dark: Elevation tapings on Wednesday.

Two matches scheduled for the show were unable to be filmed. The problems started during a match between Cheeseburger and Max Caster and continued as Nyla Rose faced Skye Blue.

Our own Dave Meltzer addressed what happened on Wednesdays’ edition of Wrestling Observer Radio

“The entrance and the announcing place all of a sudden went dark,” Meltzer said. “So, they did the match, Max Caster won, and then they did another match that they announced which was Skye Blue and Nyla Rose and they just said, ‘This match is only for you fans in the arena, it will never air.’ Because they couldn’t tape it because they had the power failure, or whatever it was. Luckily, they got the thing fixed by eight o’clock and there was no problem with Dynamite.”

The scheduled Dark: Elevation main event between Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs. Nick Comoroto & QT Marshall was then taped after Dynamite.

Marina Shafir vs. Skye Blue added to AEW Dynamite

Ahead of challenging TBS Champion Jade Cargill, Marina Shafir is set for action on this week’s episode of Dynamite

AEW has announced that Shafir will make her Dynamite debut against Skye Blue this Wednesday. Shafir, who was released from WWE/NXT last June, arrived in AEW at a set of Dark tapings in December 2021.

AEW tweeted: “After dominating competition on Dark, @MarinaShafir (4-0 #AEW record in 2022) will debut on @AEWonTV vs. young fan favorite Skye Blue (@Skyebyee) on #AEWDynamite tomorrow night LIVE on @TBSNetwork @ 8pm ET/7pm CT. The TBS Champion @Jade_Cargill will be watching this bout closely!”

Shafir has been confirmed as the next opponent for Cargill, but when that match will be happening hasn’t been announced. Cargill is looking for the 30th win in her undefeated streak.

Wednesday’s Dynamite is being held at UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. Here’s the updated lineup for the episode:

  • AEW Tag Team Champions Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus defend against reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish)
  • ROH Television Champion Minoru Suzuki defends against Samoa Joe
  • CM Punk vs. Penta Oscuro
  • Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz vs. Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager & Daniel Garcia)
  • Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee vs. Powerhouse Hobbs & Ricky Starks
  • MJF vs. Shawn Dean
  • Marina Shafir vs. Skye Blue

Tony Khan tweeted that TBS has granted AEW an overrun for the episode: “Thanks to our great fans, great ratings + a great card of matches set for Wednesday Night Dynamite, @TBSNetwork granted us an overrun for #AEWDynamite tomorrow! It may just be a few minutes, but whatever happens there’s a chance we’ll run past 10pm ET/9pm CT tomorrow on Dynamite!”

AEW Dark Elevation results: Leyla Hirsch, Lance Archer, Fuego Del Sol, more in action

It’s Monday and you know what that means: a seven-match AEW Dark: Elevation taped last Wednesday at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mark Henry, Paul Wight and a returning Tony Schiavone were on the call for this week’s episode of Elevation.

Jay Lethal defeated Jorah Johl (with Matt Hardy & Jose)

Lethal started the match strong, but Johl was able to use his strength to put things in his favor for a few minutes. Lethal tried to go for Lethal Injection, but Johl was able to counter it. The second time, however, Johl was not lucky. Lethal’s record is 6-1 after this bout.

After the match, Matt Hardy cut a promo about Johl disappointing him. Hardy threatened Johl that he would delete him from AHFO if he doesn’t impress soon.

Red Velvet defeated Skye Blue

While Velvet and Skye were facing each other, Leyla Hirsch showed up and distracted Velvet. Blue used this for a superkick and a nearfall. Red Velvet connected with the Final Slice and was able to win the match and improve her record to 45-21.

Frankie Kazarian defeated Alan Angels

Paul Wight and Mark Henry mentioned on commentary that if they were in the ring facing Angels, they would rip off Angels’ earring to teach him a lesson. This was very funny.

Kazarian and Angels had a battle of small packages and it ended with both standing tall. Angels tried to use his speed to overwhelm Kazarian, but the experience of the latter played a factor in this match. Kazarian sent Angels flying with a Stan Hansen-esque lariat. Kazarian went for a flying leg drop, but Angels countered it into a reverse figure four. Angels tried to go for another small package, but Kazarian countered it into a chicken wing to win the match by submission. Kazarian’s record after his match with Angels was 64-29.

Diamante, Emi Sakura & Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated LMK, Kayla Sparks & Paris Van Dale

This match was the AEW debut of Paris Van Dale. The heels started the match quickly by attacking the non-AEW wrestlers. Nyla Rose’s power in particular helped her team establish the early advantage. Diamante with a brand-new submission move (modified rear naked choke) was able to win the match for her team.

Lance Archer defeated Fuego Del Sol

Fuego Del Sol tried to outsmart Archer, but failed. Archer tried to go for a Blackout, but Fuego escaped at the last second with a flip. Archer spent most of the match toying with Fuego. Fuego tried to go for his famous Tornado DDT, but Archer countered it with a suplex. Archer on his second attempt was able to hit the Blackout and improve his record to 47-10.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Willow Nightingale

Hirsch started the match not taking Nightingale seriously. Nightingale used her size advantage to overwhelm Hirsch. Nightingale went for a beautiful moonsault but there was nobody there, allowing Hirsch to win the match by submission with an armbar. Hirsch’s record after this bout is 32-12.

Evil Uno & Stu Grayson defeated Chaos Project

Luther tried to use Serpentico’s back for an assisted cannonball on Grayson, but it failed miserably. Serpentico tried to go for a Lethal Injection, but Grayson and Uno countered it into Fatality to win the match. Their record is 25-7 after this match.

Final Thoughts:

The chemistry of the commentary team has improved a lot since day one, you could clearly notice this when Schiavone, Henry and Wight were talking about cupcakes. In terms of matches, Kazarian vs. Angels was the best match of the night, but Archer vs. Fuego is also a match worth watching.

AEW Dark Elevation results: Andrade, Lance Archer, AQA

It’s Monday and you know what that means: an eight-match AEW Dark: Elevation taped last Wednesday at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, with Excalibur, Mark Henry and Paul Wight on the call.

Red Velvet, Tay Conti and Anna Jay defeated Freya States, Angelica Risk and Arie Alexander

Even with States clearly being the strongest member of her team, Velvet, Conti and Jay isolated her for a good portion of the match. In the end, Jay got the Queenslayer on Alexander to get the submission win for her team.

2point0, Daniel Garcia & Gunn Club (w/ Billy Gunn) defeated Dean Alexander, Dominic Garrini, Chico Adams, Ariel Levy & Kevin Ku

This was the AEW debut for former MLW roster members Garrini and Ku, known as Violence Is Forever. The heels easily dominated this ten-man with Garcia getting the submission with a scorpion deathlock on Adams for the win.

The Bunny defeated Kaitland Alexis

This was the AEW debut for Alexis. This was a squash match with Bunny hitting Down the Rabbit Hole to improve her record to 31-20.

Andrade, Private Party and The Butcher & The Blade defeated Shawn Dean, Carlie Bravo, Jameson Ryan, Baron Black and Chandler Hopkins

AHFO controlled this match from the start and there was nothing their opponents could do to turn things in their favor. Dean did get a great hot tag and even planted Isiah Kassidy with an impressive DDT. Andrade used his El Idolo hammerlock DDT to help Kassidy get the pin on Bravo.

This was Butcher’s first in-ring action since last November following a torn biceps.

After the match, Matt Hardy appeared on the ramp and looked happy for what just happened. He had been disappointed with Private Party’s recent outings prior to Andrade coming on board.

Ruby Soho defeated Haley J

This was Haley J’s debut. Soho dominated early with several corner kicks, but one poke to her eye complicated things. However, the No Future kick ended it for Soho, upping her record to 16-4.

Lance Archer defeated Joey O’Reilly

This was O’Reilly’s debut and he got destroyed by Archer who won the match by ref stoppage. This was Archer’s first match (and win) after falling short to Hangman Page in their recent brutal Texas Death Match they had.

Nyla Rose, Leyla Hirsch and Emi Sakura (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated Skye Blue, A.Q.A and Kiera Hogan

The experience of Sakura, the power of Rose and the grappling from them were the deciding factors of this match. This was another good showing for Blue, especially when she was paired up with Sakura and Hirsch. Hirsch hit a running knee strike on Blue to get the win for her team.

This was A.Q.A’s second match in AEW after her debut two weeks ago against TBS Champion Jade Cargill.

Jay Lethal, Matt Sydal, Frankie Kazarian, Lee Johnson & Brock Anderson (w/ Arn Anderson) defeated Chaos Project and The Wingmen (Peter Avalon, Cezar Bononi & JD Drake) (w/ Ryan Nemeth)

Chaos Project and The Wingmen tried isolating and grounding Sydal, but his speed was enough for him to reach Kazarian. Nemeth tried to intervene in favor of the heels, but Arn Anderson took him out and prevented him from cheating. A combination of a spinebuster from Brock Anderson, a frog splash from Johnson and the Macho Man-esque elbow drop from Lethal on Serpentico was enough to pick up the win for the babyfaces.

Final Thoughts:

Something interesting on this week’s Dark: Elevation was the amount of multi-person matches: five to be exact. All felt quick and went directly to the point. The highlight of the episode was Archer just destroying his opponent and winning by ref stoppage.
