Fuego Del Sol announces departure from AEW

Fuego Del Sol has announced he is leaving AEW.

The 27-year-old took to social media on Thursday to reveal that he will become a free agent after his contract expires on July 1.

Del Sol said:

Hello, world. As of July 1, my time with All Elite Wrestling will have come to an end and I will officially become a free agent. However, I am proud to say that I’ve been cleared to return to the ring from injury and I am now accepting bookings any and everywhere.

He thanked the AEW roster and those who work backstage for the company. Del Sol noted that he made friendships during his time with AEW that he’s sure will last forever. He then thanked the fans for all of their support.

Del Sol continued:

I will always look back fondly and cherish the night I got signed and how genuine that moment was. But even though this chapter is coming to a close, this is just the beginning for Fuego Del Sol.

At 27 years old, I’m just getting started. I’ve barely scratched the surface on showing the world just how damn good Fuego Del Sol is.

Del Sol has been out of action since suffering multiple foot fractures in a match for California’s SPW promotion on February 19. Doctors told him he fractured his foot in five different places.

Dol Sol debuted for AEW in Daily’s Place in Jacksonville during the pandemic era. His debut took place on the May 28, 2020, edition of Dark. He wouldn’t get his first win in the promotion until he and Marko Stunt defeated Baron Black and Ryzin on the July 6, 2021, edition of Dark.

AEW Dark: Elevation 4/3 lineup:

AEW’s Fuego Del Sol suffered multiple foot fractures in indie match

AEW wrestler Fuego Del Sol revealed on Instagram Wednesday that he fractured his foot in five places during a recent indie match.

Del Sol said that doctors originally thought he had suffered a single minor fracture in the February 19th three-way for California’s SPW, but a CT scan revealed the multiple fractures.

He said the big question now is whether he suffered ligament damage which will be answered following a visit with a foot specialist within the next week. The main ligament around his Lisfranc bone is “a little displaced” but not completely separated which is giving him optimism.

“If it can heal on its own, the recovery is 6-8 weeks because all my bones are in the right spots and the fractures just need time to heal, BUT if I need surgery it could be 3 months,” he said.

Del Sol said he will be focusing on social media and Twitch to help keep him busy and his mind off the situation.

He made his debut for AEW in May 2020 and eventually became a contracted wrestler, learning the news on the August 2021 debut of AEW Rampage following a loss to Miro.

AEW Dark Elevation results: Leyla Hirsch, Lance Archer, Fuego Del Sol, more in action

It’s Monday and you know what that means: a seven-match AEW Dark: Elevation taped last Wednesday at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mark Henry, Paul Wight and a returning Tony Schiavone were on the call for this week’s episode of Elevation.

Jay Lethal defeated Jorah Johl (with Matt Hardy & Jose)

Lethal started the match strong, but Johl was able to use his strength to put things in his favor for a few minutes. Lethal tried to go for Lethal Injection, but Johl was able to counter it. The second time, however, Johl was not lucky. Lethal’s record is 6-1 after this bout.

After the match, Matt Hardy cut a promo about Johl disappointing him. Hardy threatened Johl that he would delete him from AHFO if he doesn’t impress soon.

Red Velvet defeated Skye Blue

While Velvet and Skye were facing each other, Leyla Hirsch showed up and distracted Velvet. Blue used this for a superkick and a nearfall. Red Velvet connected with the Final Slice and was able to win the match and improve her record to 45-21.

Frankie Kazarian defeated Alan Angels

Paul Wight and Mark Henry mentioned on commentary that if they were in the ring facing Angels, they would rip off Angels’ earring to teach him a lesson. This was very funny.

Kazarian and Angels had a battle of small packages and it ended with both standing tall. Angels tried to use his speed to overwhelm Kazarian, but the experience of the latter played a factor in this match. Kazarian sent Angels flying with a Stan Hansen-esque lariat. Kazarian went for a flying leg drop, but Angels countered it into a reverse figure four. Angels tried to go for another small package, but Kazarian countered it into a chicken wing to win the match by submission. Kazarian’s record after his match with Angels was 64-29.

Diamante, Emi Sakura & Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated LMK, Kayla Sparks & Paris Van Dale

This match was the AEW debut of Paris Van Dale. The heels started the match quickly by attacking the non-AEW wrestlers. Nyla Rose’s power in particular helped her team establish the early advantage. Diamante with a brand-new submission move (modified rear naked choke) was able to win the match for her team.

Lance Archer defeated Fuego Del Sol

Fuego Del Sol tried to outsmart Archer, but failed. Archer tried to go for a Blackout, but Fuego escaped at the last second with a flip. Archer spent most of the match toying with Fuego. Fuego tried to go for his famous Tornado DDT, but Archer countered it with a suplex. Archer on his second attempt was able to hit the Blackout and improve his record to 47-10.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Willow Nightingale

Hirsch started the match not taking Nightingale seriously. Nightingale used her size advantage to overwhelm Hirsch. Nightingale went for a beautiful moonsault but there was nobody there, allowing Hirsch to win the match by submission with an armbar. Hirsch’s record after this bout is 32-12.

Evil Uno & Stu Grayson defeated Chaos Project

Luther tried to use Serpentico’s back for an assisted cannonball on Grayson, but it failed miserably. Serpentico tried to go for a Lethal Injection, but Grayson and Uno countered it into Fatality to win the match. Their record is 25-7 after this match.

Final Thoughts:

The chemistry of the commentary team has improved a lot since day one, you could clearly notice this when Schiavone, Henry and Wight were talking about cupcakes. In terms of matches, Kazarian vs. Angels was the best match of the night, but Archer vs. Fuego is also a match worth watching.

AEW Dark results: Anthony Bowens vs. Fuego Del Sol

This week’s matches were taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Dark Order (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) defeated Ariya Daivari and Invictus Khash

Khash took a free shot at Silver when the bell rang, but it made no effect. Reynolds came in after helping Silver perform a double team move, but before Reynolds could make an impact, Khash dragged him down from the top rope with a handful of hair — leading to a small period of dominance from he and Daivari.

Silver eventually got the hot tag and delivered a sit-out power bomb to Daivari. Shortly after, Reynolds assisted Silver with some double team maneuvers before pinning Khash with an bridging German suplex.

QT Marshall (w/ The Factory) defeated Pat Brink

Brink surprisingly unloaded some great offense early on and had Marshall reeling. The match changed course when Brink was distracted by The Factory, leading to Marshall pushing him into a steel post.

Marshall worked on Brink very methodically and the match started to drag. Brink found himself in a position to win after he was able to nail a few clotheslines and a powerslam. After an unsuccessful pin attempt, Brink fell victim to Marshall’s diamond cutter.

Max Caster (w/ Anthony Bowens) defeated Cameron Stewart

One half of The Acclaimed dominated from the bell with Stewart getting very little offense in. There was one spot where Stewart had pushed Caster off the top rope and had a moment of hope, but that was put to bed after Caster delivered a brainbuster followed by a Mic Drop for the win.

Tony Nese defeated Carlie Bravo

This was a fun bout for what it was, mainly because of Bravo’s great facial expressions. Bravo also had some great crowd backing.

Nese tossed around Bravo early on, flexing in between moves. Bravo didn’t go down too easy and had a great fake out punch spot in the corner that disrupted the Nese’s focus. Nese had a hilarious spot a few seconds later where he was doing a bicycle exercise on Bravo who was hanging upside down from the turnbuckle.

Nese would go on to win shortly after with a running piledriver.

Emi Sakura defeated Angelica Risk

Sakura immediately threw Risk to the mat by her hair. While playing to the crowd, Sakura locked in a submission and mocked Risk which would come back to cost her momentarily. Risk did a hip toss in the corner with her spare seconds before Sakura took back control of the match, hitting the Queen’s Gambit for the three count.

2point0 (w/ Daniel Garcia) defeated Metro Brothers

2point0 dominated from the bell with the Metros getting no offense in at all. The duo hit Chris Metro with The Show to win the match in about twenty seconds.

MT Nakazawa defeated Joey Sweets

Nakazawa started by talking through his headset. Sweets took advantage of the distraction and struck him from behind, but Nakazawa recovered quickly. Nakazawa kept getting distracted with different tech equipment, but was still wrestling. After striking Sweets with a clipboard, Nakazawa hit a piledriver for the win.

Frankie Kazarian defeated Luke Sampson

Sampson tried to bull rush Kazarian early, but was met with a dropkick from the “Heavy Metal Rebel.” Sampson rolled to the outside to recover and when he returned, he delivered a chokeslam to Kazarian.

Kazarian was up in no time and would go on to make Sampson submit with a crossface chicken wing.

Jora Johl defeated Axel Rico

Johl delivered an onslaught of forearms early as the match spilled to the outside. Rico tried to fight back, but was the victim of a backbreaker on the apron courtesy of Johl. When the match ended up back in the ring, Johl delivered a fantastic pump kick to secure the win.

Dark Order (Alan “5” Angels & 10) defeated Chaos Project

This was a display of what both teams represent: high octane offense mixed with good comedy.

Serpentico flipped off Angels as the two started out. Angels tried to end the bout early with a backslide, but Luther pulled Serpentico out of the ring in an attempt to coach him up.

Angels tagged out to 10 which didn’t bode well for “Snakeman.” 10 threw Serpentico around with ease before he allowed Luther to enter the match for the first time. Angels came in and got powerslammed by Luther. He then instructed Serpentico to lift him up which didn’t end up working out.

The conclusion of the match came quickly after when 10 submitted Serpentico with the full nelson.

Anthony Bowens (w/ Max Caster) defeated Fuego Del Sol

Del Sol pushed Bowens of The Acclaimed in the corner when the bell rang and tried to put together a string of high speed offense. Bowens rolled outside in an attempt to recover, but Del Sol hit a torpedo off the second turnbuckle to take him out.

The match made its way back to the ring with Del Sol still firing off with great offense. After hitting a standing shooting star press, Del Sol scored a near fall.

Bowens found his second wave of momentum shortly after the kickout and slowed down Del Sol very quickly. After firing up with a few big moves, Bowens hit a reverse draping DDT to pick up the victory.

Fuego Del Sol officially signs AEW contract

Fuego Del Sol is All Elite.

The AEW regular was presented with an official contract on the debut episode of Rampage.

Fuego Del Sol was the opponent for Miro in a TNT Championship match where if Fuego won, he would not only gain the title, but a contract as well. Miro retained the TNT title in a quick match.

At the conclusion of the bout, Sammy Guevara appeared on the stage. He was briefly joined by AEW GM Tony Khan, who handed Guevara a clipboard.

Guevara made his way to the ring and told Fuego that he was given this opportunity by Khan because he’s Fuego’s best friend, and that sometimes there is victory in defeat. Guevara then presented Fuego with the AEW contract.

In addition to being a regular on AEW Dark, Fuego is a character on Guevara’s YouTube show, as well as a regular challenger for the BTE Championship on The Young Bucks’ Being The Elite YouTube show.
