WWE NXT live results: Two championship matches

Two championship matches are set to air on tonight’s Thanksgiving week edition of WWE NXT.

In her first title defense, Lyra Valkyria puts the NXT Women’s Championship on the line against Xia Li. Valkyria claimed the title by defeating Becky Lynch at Halloween Havoc four weeks ago. Li is coming off a loss to Lynch on last night’s Raw.

Li confronted Valkyria earlier this month and has her sights set on winning NXT gold.

The Heritage Cup Championship will be defended tonight as main roster star Chad Gable challenges Noam Dar.

Two Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying matches are taking place tonight. Carmelo Hayes will look to secure his NXT Deadline spot as he faces off against Josh Briggs. Blair Davenport clashes with Thea Hail with a place in the women’s Iron Survivor Challenge on the line. This week’s competitors were selected by JBL.

Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo vs. Edris Enofe & Malik Blade has been announced for tonight as well, along with Eddy Thorpe vs. Charlie Dempsey.

There is notable post-production on this show, as Vic Joseph’s voiceovers are clearly different than the commentary recorded live with him and Booker T.

Ring introductions open the show, as champion and challenger are already in the ring.

Noam Dar (with Lash Legend, Jakara Jackson & Oro Mensah) vs. Chad Gable (with Maxxine Dupri, Akira Tozawa & Otis) for the Heritage Cup Championship ends in a draw

Heritage Cup goes Broadway on NXT in a great opener. Dar and Gable tie 1-1 after six rounds, thus the match is ruled a draw. Dar retains in that case. Gable had Dar in an ankle lock as time expires in the sixth round, and Dar was tapping out as the bell rings. Still ruled a draw.

Some good wrestling in the first round, but no falls in round one. Good wrestling continues into the second round, except this time there is a fall. Not clean, though as Dar would go up by one fall after outside interference by Mensah.

Mensah kicks Gable in the head with under a minute remaining in round two. Dar then delivers his Nova Roller, and he covers Gable for a three count.

Much of the third round happens during a split-screen commercial break. Under 30 seconds in round three as the show returns from the break. They trade near falls after a superplex as the third round winds down.

Double down as both are on the mat selling, and their corners have to help them up between rounds.

Action intensifies in the fourth round. Some close near falls, and they even tease a count-out. They are trading strikes on their knees as the fourth round ends

Fifth round is all Gable, and he makes short work of Dar to even the score at one fall apiece. Rolling koppo kick by Gable, followed by a series of German suplexes. Gable bridges on a suplex, and Gable evens the score via pinfall.

Legend starts an argument with Dupri between rounds, which distracted Gable. With Gable’s attention diverted, Dar hammers Gable with a cheap shot.

Gable is rocked with 90 second left in the sixth round. They keep trading near falls as the clock continues to run. With 30 seconds remaining, Gable goes for a moonsault press, and Dar tries to keep his boots up to block the moonsault. Gable counters the counter, and he grabs Dar’s leg to apply an ankle lock.

Gable has the ankle locked in with seconds remaining. Time appears to run out on six round as Gable still applies the hold. Dar taps out as the bell is ringing to end the round. Time had run out, as the official decision is a draw.

Post-match angle that teases something between Otis and Legend. Otis catching Legend after she is slapped by Dupri. Legend sells it with disgust and she freaks out.

JBL announces his picks for the Iron Survivor qualifier, which takes place later tonight.

WWE has a cross-promotional with the Big 12 Conference for a tie-in at the Big 12 football championship game.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Family are welcomed by their family for a meal. They toast. To be continued…

Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes seem to be on good terms again in a brief locker room skit.

Xia Li attacks NXT Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria before their match even has its ring introductions. Li jumps Valkyria during the champ’s entrance. That delays the women’s title match, as viewers are to wonder if Valkyria is able to defend her title tonight.

Humberto Carillo & Angel Garza defeated Edris Enofe & Malik Blade

This was supposed to be a standby match, but it is really a showcase for Carillo & Garza. They are getting a renewed push, yet it is still missing something. They could benefit with more character development, as their wrestling itself is great.

Josh Briggs defeated Carmelo Hayes in an Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying match

Briggs pins Hayes, and Briggs qualifies for the Iron Survivor. Lexi King runs in at the finish to cause a distraction, leading to the pibfall.

Breakout moment for Briggs. He is given a pep talk before the match, but he does not need it. Briggs is a monster from the outset of the bout. He shows a ton of fire with a more aggressive style.

Just before a commercial break, Briggs is teases putting Hayes through the announce desk, but Hayes escapes. Hayes goes on to open hand slap Briggs, which enrages Briggs. In a fit of rage, Briggs bounces Hayes on the ropes to set up a lariat. Briggs then flings Hayes over the announce desk as the show cuts away to commercials.

Briggs is working over Hayes as the show returns from commercials. Hope spot dashed as Briggs is fired up again. Hayes eventually makes a comeback, amidst some great action.

Lexi King runs down in the closing moments, and King jumps on the apron. Hayes levels King with a kick, and King takes a bump off the apron. That moment of distraction allowed Briggs to capitalize. Hayes goes for a springboard, and Briggs wipes him out with a lariat. Briggs then climbs the turnbuckles and leaps off into a moonsault press. Briggs covers Hayes to win and advance to Deadline.

McKenzie Mitchell interviews NXT Women’s Champ Lyra Valkyria, who is holding an ice pack on her shoulder. Mitchell asks Valkyria if the title match for tonight is off. Valkyria rises to her feet and exclaims the bout is still on.

Von Wagner comes to Mr. Stone’s house for dinner. Wagner brought brownies, but he ate some on the way. Wagner says he wore his best tank top. Wagner bounds with Stone’s kids as Wagner eat dinner with the family. The kids stare at the scars on Wagner’s head, but they still become fast friends. This was supposed to be comedy I guess.

Wes Lee comes to the ring for a monologue, where he issues a challenge for another title shot against NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. Out comes Dom to interrupt up, even with no “Mami” to accompany Dom.

Lee and Mysterio bicker back-and-forth for a little bit. Mysterio then tells Lee he is booked in a match next week against three former North American champs. If Lee beats all three former champs in matches, then Lee earns a title shot against Mysterio. Lee of course accepts the challenge and the stips.

Blair Davenport defeated Thea Hail (with Jacy Jayne) in an Iron Survivor Challenge qualifying match

Hail did well with Jayne’s support, but Hail failed to capitalize when she was on a roll. Hail was briefly distracted by the Chase U student section and their lack of support. Jayne urges Hail to forget about them, but it was too late. Davenport delivers her knee strike finisher, and Davenport covers Hail for a pinfall. In winning, Davenport qualifies for the Iron Survivor Challenge at Deadline.

A video package hypes the NXT Championship match at Deadline. The feature compares the two different lives and lifestyles of NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov and challenger Baron Corbin. The two meet in a title match at Deadline.

Eddy Thorpe defeated Charlie Dempsey (with Drew Gulak & Myles Borne)

The trend of good wrestling continues with this bout. This is such a wrestling-heavy show.

Thorpe scores a pinfall on Dempsey to win the match, but Thorpe is jumped by Gulak & Borne after the match. Dempsey, Gulak & Borne leave Thorpe laying after the match.

Humberto Carillo & Angel Garza jump The Family in another beatdown. Tony D’Angelo & Stacks are leaving their family dinner when they are attacked by Carillo & Garza. This seems to set up Garza & Carillo challenging for the tag titles at Deadline.

Arianna Grace is the focus of a vignette.

NXT Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria defeated Xia Li to retain her title

“Stone Cold” Valkyria came back from a supposed injury to win the match and retain the championship.

Valkyria wrestled great for someone that was supposedly injured earlier in the show. She is a house of fire at the outset of the match, but Valkyria is soon cut off by Li.

Li works over Valkyria through a commercial break. Valkyria eventually makes a comeback, and she has Li in a fireman’s carry when Valkyria drops her into a Michinoku Driver. Valkyria then covers Li for a three count to retain her title.

Here are NXT notes regarding Halloween Havoc, the Women’s Breakout Tournament, and next week’s lineup.

Next week’s show will feature a three-way match to determine the NXT Championship match for Halloween Havoc, which takes place October 24 and 31. Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker, and Dijak will meet after special guest GM Cody Rhodes made the match on Tuesday. A Badda Bing Badda Boom Battle Royal will also take place, with 10 teams entering. The final two teams will then start a regular tag team match, with the winners advancing to face NXT Tag Team Champions Tony D’Angelo & Stacks at Halloween Havoc.

Participants in the battle royal include Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs, Damon Kemp & Myles Borne, Edris Enofe & Malik Blade, Humberto & Angel, The Creed Brothers, Hank Walker & Tank Ledger, Bronco Nima & Lucien Price, Gallus, Chase U, and Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey.

Another match for next week will have Tegan Nox take on Lyra Valkyria after the two exchanged words on Tuesday.

It was also announced that main roster stars Shotzi and Scarlett will host this year’s Halloween Havoc event. Shotzi, who appeared on Tuesday’s show to do guest commentary for the Roxanne Perez vs. Asuka match, mentioned that the two will be hosting night one on October 24.

  • Badda Bing Badda Boom Battle Royal for NXT Tag Team title match at Halloween Havoc
  • Tegan Nox vs. Lyra Valkyria

Tag team match announced for next week’s WWE SmackDown

A tag team match has been announced for next Friday’s SmackDown.

Damage CTRL team mates Bayley & IYO SKY will team up to take on Shotzi and Charlotte Flair next week at the Boston Garden. This stems from a match that took place on Friday’s SmackDown, when Shotzi defeated SKY after Charlotte Flair interfered. The finish had Bayley go for SKY’s WWE Women’s title when Flair came out, laid out SKY, and attacked Bayley as the referee was distracted, allowing Shotzi to pick up the win.

Bayley and SKY have been feuding with Shotzi for the last several weeks, starting when the two attacked Shotzi backstage and cut off her hair. Shotzi eventually returned with a new shorter hairstyle and has been stalking Damage CTRL ever since.

SKY has been champion since SummerSlam, when she and Bayley attacked Charlotte Flair and Asuka with the Money in the Bank briefcase in order to get to new champion Bianca Belair. SKY pinned Belair to win her first WWE Women’s Championship.

Here’s what is announced so far for next week’s SmackDown:

  • Charlotte Flair & Shotzi vs. IYO SKY & Bayley

Braun Strowman, Karrion Kross, Shotzi get Bray Wyatt tribute tattoos

Bray Wyatt left a permanent mark on Braun Strowman, Karrion Kross, and Shotzi.

Strowman, Kross, and Shotzi were among a group of people who got Wyatt tribute tattoos on Friday night. The tattoos are of Wyatt’s moth logo.

The tattoos were done at Deep Search Tattoo in Clarksville, Indiana. WWE was in Louisville, Kentucky for SmackDown on Friday.

WWE’s Director of Longterm Creative Rob Fee, who worked closely with Wyatt, also got the tattoo of Wyatt’s logo.

Last night’s SmackDown was a tribute to both Wyatt and Terry Funk. Though Strowman underwent neck fusion surgery in June, he appeared for Wyatt’s tribute. Strowman’s former Wyatt Family stablemate Erick Rowan was also brought in to celebrate Wyatt. Strowman and Rowan stood alongside each other for the 10-bell salute and moment of silence.

Wyatt (Windham Rotunda) passed away at 36 years old on August 24. His death was caused by a heart attack. Wyatt had a heart issue that was exacerbated by having COVID-19 earlier this year, but his health had recently been improving and he was getting closer to returning to the ring.

WWE SmackDown video highlights: Shotzi shaves her head

Shotzi revealed a new look on last night’s episode of SmackDown.

Two weeks after Bayley tried to humiliate her by cutting her hair, Shotzi responded on SmackDown last night. A video aired where Shotzi shaved her own head. Shotzi delivered a message to Bayley, declaring that she’s in control and Bayley isn’t:

Bayley, you probably thought cutting my hair would intimidate me, scare me. You probably think you have some sort of control over me. Do I look scared to you? Do I look like someone you can control? Do I? Maybe I am a little weird, but I’m also in control. Not you Bayley. I’m in control. I’m in control. And that’s what’s so great about being a little strange. I own it. I hold the power. Some people fear change, but I invite it. And I want to show you just how chaotic I really am. I’m in control. Do I look scared to you? I’m not scared. You’re scared. I’m in control. Maybe I am a little weird.

In a post on her Instagram stories, Shotzi revealed the real-life inspiration for why she decided to shave her head, writing: “I love you sister! You are my inspiration!”

Shotzi’s sister Shawnee is battling liver cancer.

The video from Shotzi aired after Bayley defeated Zelina Vega last night. To taunt Shotzi, Bayley was still carrying around the piece of Shotzi’s hair that she cut off. Bayley looked afraid after Shotzi’s video was shown.

IYO SKY and Bayley also appeared during last night’s Asuka vs. Bianca Belair main event. The WWE Women’s Championship match ended in a disqualification when Charlotte Flair went to spear SKY but hit Belair instead. SKY was about to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase on Asuka, but Asuka spit mist into Bayley’s face and escaped with the WWE Women’s title belt. SKY never officially cashed in her briefcase.

**********

Two matches that were originally supposed to take place on SmackDown last week have been rebooked for tonight.

WWE has announced that Bayley vs. Shotzi and LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch have been added to the lineup for tonight’s SmackDown. If Shotzi defeats Bayley, she’ll take Bayley’s spot in Saturday’s women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

The women’s Money in the Bank ladder match is also set to feature IYO SKY, Zelina Vega, Becky Lynch, Zoey Stark, and Trish Stratus.

Knight, Escobar, Butch, Ricochet, Shinsuke Nakamura, Damian Priest, and Logan Paul are the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match participants.

Bayley vs. Shotzi and Knight vs. Escobar vs. Butch had been announced for last week’s SmackDown but were removed from advertising prior to the show going on the air. Knight was still in action on the episode, defeating Rey Mysterio in a singles match.

A Cameron Grimes vs. Baron Corbin match was also advertised for SmackDown last Friday but didn’t take place. The changes to the show were made by Vince McMahon.

SmackDown is being held at The O2 Arena in London tonight. The venue is also hosting Money in the Bank tomorrow.

The updated SmackDown lineup is listed below:

  • Roman Reigns appears
  • WWE Women’s Champion Asuka defends against Charlotte Flair
  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn defend against Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson)
  • The Grayson Waller Effect with guest Logan Paul
  • Bayley vs. Shotzi (if Shotzi wins, she takes Bayley’s spot in Money in the Bank)
  • LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch
  • Non-title match: United States Champion Austin Theory vs. Ridge Holland

Bayley vs. Shotzi stipulation match set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Bayley vs. Shotzi with Money in the Bank spot on the line is one of three matches set for the June 23 WWE SmackDown.

After a backstage promo segment on this week’s episode involving IYO SKY, Bayley will put her spot in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match up against Shotzi in a match on next week’s show. Shotzi issued the challenge to Bayley, and SKY accepted on her behalf as dissension within Damage CTRL continues to be teased.

Also set for next week, Cameron Grimes and Baron Corbin will square off in another contest. Grimes beat Corbin in seconds on the May 12 SmackDown, but Corbin attacked Grimes in a backstage segment this week to set up the rematch.

Already announced for next week, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler will face NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn in a title unification match.

Next week’s lineup:

WWE SmackDown, Friday, June 23 —

  • WWE & NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship unification match: Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler vs. Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn
  • Bayley vs. Shotzi with a spot in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match on the line
  • Cameron Grimes vs. Baron Corbin

Ronda Rousey to compete in Showcase match at WWE WrestleMania 39

Ronda Rousey is returning to action at WrestleMania 39.

Rousey and Shayna Baszler appeared following a match between Shotzi & Natalya and Xia Li & Lacey Evans on Friday’s SmackDown and announced that they have been added to the Showcase tag team match at WrestleMania 39. They join Shotzi & Natalya, who won their qualifying match, and the team of Raquel Gonzalez & Liv Morgan, who qualified on last week’s SmackDown.

Rousey confirmed on Instagram Friday that she has fractured her radius at a WWE house show in Rockford, Illinois on February 26.

Reportedly, the original idea for Rousey and Baszler were for them to challenge for the Women’s Tag Team titles. However, Dave Meltzer reported last Friday that the Tag Team title match was off, and instead Rousey would be in a different match at WrestleMania. That same day, WWE announced two four-way tag team showcase matches for WrestleMania, one for men and the other for women.

Here is the latest WrestleMania card:

  • Men’s four-way tag team showcase match: Braun Strowman & Ricochet vs. The Viking Raiders vs. The Street Profits vs. Alpha Academy

Roman Reigns appearance, women’s EC qualifier set for WWE SmackDown

Roman Reigns is set to make his first appearance since the Royal Rumble.

WWE has announced that Reigns will appear on tonight’s Royal Rumble fallout episode of SmackDown. It will follow up from the show-closing angle of last Saturday’s pay-per-view, where Sami Zayn hit Reigns with a steel chair and split from The Bloodline. Jey Uso then walked out on The Bloodline as they were beating down Zayn.

Reigns defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes has been made official for WrestleMania 39. Before that, Reigns is expected to face off with Zayn at WWE’s Elimination Chamber PPV in Montreal on Saturday, February 18.

WWE.com wrote:

How will The Head of the Table react to the unprecedented turmoil that has rocked The Bloodline? Will Reigns have any response to Cody Rhodes after the Royal Rumble winner addressed their WrestleMania title showdown? Will The Island of Relevancy ever be the same? Don’t miss all the action of SmackDown this Friday at 8/7 C on FOX.

A fatal four-way Elimination Chamber qualifying match has also been added to the lineup for tonight’s SmackDown. Shayna Baszler, Shotzi, Zelina Vega, and Natalya will face off with a spot in the women’s Elimination Chamber match on the line.

The women’s Elimination Chamber match will determine Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair’s challenger for WrestleMania 39. Asuka, Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, and Nikki Cross have already been confirmed for the match. The final participant will be determined in a qualifier between Michin, Candice LeRae, Piper Niven, and Carmella on Raw next Monday.

SmackDown is being held at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina tonight. The updated card for the episode is listed below:

  • Roman Reigns appears
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Sonya Deville
  • SmackDown Tag Team title contender’s tournament finals: Braun Strowman & Ricochet vs. Imperium (Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci)
  • Women’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match: Shayna Baszler vs. Shotzi vs. Zelina Vega vs. Natalya

WWE’s Shotzi announces she’ll be out of action six weeks

Shotzi says she’s going to miss the next six weeks after suffering a broken hand.

WWE revealed in a digital exclusive on Friday that Shotzi had been attacked in a parking lot and had her hand slammed in a car door by Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey. Shotzi had originally been scheduled to face Baszler in singles action on SmackDown before the attack.

The 30-year-old posted an X-Ray of a broken hand on Saturday along with the caption, “6weeks.”

As a result of Shotzi vs. Baszler being canceled, Baszler & Rousey would team up to take on Liv Morgan and Tegan Nox on SmackDown. Morgan and Nox picked up the victory after Nox delivered a shining wizard to Baszler.

Shotzi is coming off a loss to Rousey at WWE Survivor Series. Rousey noted on a video game stream last week that the match had to be cut for time.

“I guess the match before us went over by like six minutes and they were really concerned about going over on time and the match after us was a three-way so they wouldn’t be able to communicate with each other to be able to make the match shorter,” Rousey said. The match after that was WarGames, they couldn’t cut that out so it was the only place where they could get that time back. So, I was kind of bummed though because we worked on that match for two weeks and we were really excited about it and I feel like I really kind of failed Shotzi. I really wanted to showcase her s**t and make all of her s**t look great and show everybody how great she is.”

Ronda Rousey details botched DDT spot at WWE Survivor Series

Ronda Rousey has commented on the DDT to the ring apron she took in her match against Shotzi at WWE Survivor Series.

Rousey spent some time talking about the match during a recent video game stream on YouTube. During the bout, Shotzi gave Rousey a DDT on the ring apron but the timing between the two was off.

“Well, guys. Do you ever wake up from a deep sleep and think of a cringe moment in your life? Then you lay awake in bed? Well, I had one of those this morning. I woke up at 630 this morning and was like, ‘Oh god, that DDT on the apron! Ahhh!”

“So, let me explain what happened,” Rousey continued. “I actually pitched that spot because I love that she does that but we couldn’t practice it in my ring because the ropes were too loose and then we couldn’t practice it when we got to the arena because there were these big cages.”

“Everyone was so focused on ‘you got to guide her over, you got to guide her to the floor,’ that it was literally all that was on my mind when it happened. So, she went over, I was like, ‘guide her’ and when she was down, I was like, ‘oh f**k. Ahhh, just go to where you’re supposed to go.'”

“I f***ed it up because I was so concerned with keeping somebody safe and a lot of times when you see me do something for the first time, it’s the first time I ever did it. It’s the first time I ever did it, I was really concerned with keeping Shotzi safe and I made it look bad and you know what? Sorry. Apparently, I deserve to be fired or burned.”

Rousey would continue to say that just as they were turning the match around, they got the call from the back to go to the finish early.

“I guess the match before us went over by like six minutes and they were really concerned about going over on time and the match after us was a three-way so they wouldn’t be able to communicate with each other to be able to make the match shorter.

“But that wasn’t the match, that was like the beginning of the match and I’m kind of bummed that we’re getting judged from not really what we put together.”

SmackDown Women’s title match added to WWE Survivor Series WarGames
