The show-long storyline between MJF and Sammy Guevara was discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Although it seemed as if Dabry Allin, Jungle Boy, and Sammy Guevara would be facing MJF in a four-way at Double or Nothing next month, Dynamite made clear that was not the case, instead establishing a tournament between the three that would see the winner face MJF.
“It looks to me like MJF and Darby in a singles match,” Meltzer said.
Dave and Bryan were left perplexed by the show-long storyline in which Sammy Guevara was bribed by MJF to take the fall in their possible match at Double or Nothing, with Guevara seemingly accepting the offer. Later, MJF helped Guevara defeat Jungle Boy by count out in the main event, setting up the finals next week between Guevara and Allin.
“You’re promoting a pay-per-view with a storyline that the challenger is going to lay down for the champion in the main event,” Alvarez said.
“I did not like the idea of Sammy Guevara being bribed by MJF…it made the championship look not that important..the guy’s going to go out there and take a bribe to really go for the championship…how does that make the championship feel…not a fan of this at all, of that aspect,” Meltzer added.
Meltzer also pointed out that a lot of Wednesday’s Rampage reminded him a lot of WWE, though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
“WWE does some very good things as well. But it did have that feel that it was a lot more talking, less wrestling, very WWE angles, some which were good, but still a different feel,” he said.

Sammy Guevara has advanced in the Four Pillars tournament.
Guevara defeated Jungle Boy Jack Perry on Wednesday’s Dynamite via count out in order to advance to next week, where he will meet Darby Allin in the finals to determine MJF’s opponent for Double or Nothing next month. The finish came when MJF used the Dynamite diamond ring to punch out Jungle Boy on the outside while Guevara distracted the referee, who eventually counted to ten and gave the win to Guevara.
Earlier in the show, MJF told Guevara he wanted him to advance to Double or Nothing so Guevara could take the fall for him. Guevara initally wasn’t interested in MJF’s offer, but after MJF gave him a blank check Guevara became more receptive to the idea.
The Four Pillars tournament was established in the opening segment of Wednesday’s Dynamite where Jungle Boy, Guevara, and Allin all made claim to be the next challenger. MJF came out and proposed the Four Pillars tournament, with Allin being selected to get the bye to the next round.
A three-man tournament will decide MJF’s next opponent for the AEW World Championship.
Dynamite on Wednesday opened with Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, and Darby Allin trading words with one another about becoming the next AEW World Champion. This eventually led to MJF coming out and saying that he had a talk with Tony Khan. He said a tournament would determine his opponent for Double or Nothing.
The tournament will begin on Wednesday’s Dynamite with Jungle Boy facing Guevara in the main event. The winner of that match will then advance to next week’s show where they will face Allin, who received a bye after MJF drew his name out of a hat. The winner of the match next week then will face MJF at Double or Nothing on May 28.
In the weeks following Revolution Jungle Boy, Guevara, and Allin all made claims to being the next in line to challenge MJF. Jungle Boy attacked MJF earlier this month on Dynamite by disguising himself as part of a band MJF hired to play during an MJF Day celebration.
Several new matches were announced for Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite including Trios title and FTW title bouts.
The House of Black (Malakai Black, Buddy Murphy & Brody King) will defend the Trios titles against Best Friends & AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy. On Friday’s Rampage, Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) picked up a win over Black & King by DQ to put the match into motion.
After his win over Konosuke Takeshita on Rampage, Sammy Guevara will continue his path toward what he hopes is an AEW World title shot when he faces Komander.
In another new title match, undefeated FTW Champion Hook will defend against Ethan Page.
The new additions join the previously announced Tony Khan announcement and two title matches that will see The Gunns defend the AEW Tag Team titles against FTR’s AEW career, and AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter defending against Riho.
Here’s the current lineup for this Wednesday’s show from Long Island, New York:
AEW Trios Champions The House of Black defend against Best Friends & Orange Cassidy
Tony Khan important announcement
AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter defends against Riho
AEW Tag Team Champions The Gunns defend against FTR’s AEW career
MJF Day celebration
Blackpool Combat Club promo
The Acclaimed decide whether they are joining Jericho Appreciation Society
AEW will have their entry into a busy Friday night with a new edition of Rampage, headlined by Sammy Guevara taking on Konosuke Takeshita.
Guevara is trying to position himself for an AEW World title match with MJF along with the other “pillars” that includes “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and Darby Allin. Perry picked up a victory Wednesday over Matt Hardy.
Takeshita is looking for his fifth straight win in his first singles meeting with Guevara since 2018.
Malakai Black and Brody King (The Kings of the Black Throne) will take a break from trios competition as they face Best Friends.
Taya Valkyrie will look to go 3-0 in AEW as she takes on Marina Shafir in hopes of a future TBS title match with Jade Cargill.
Juice Robinson will strive for his sixth straight AEW win as he faces Action Andretti ahead of his clash with Ricky Starks this Wednesday.

Taped from St. Louis, Missouri.
Jim Ross, Excalibur, Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone were on commentary.
“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and Dabry Allin were shown watching the match from the back. Takeshita hit his flying lariat and mocked Guevara’s pose. Guevara countered a suplex attempt with a knee to the head, then hung Takeshita up in the ropes and hit a senton. Takeshita tried to set up Guevara for an avalanche German superplex, but Geuvara escaped and dropkicked Takeshita, who was hanging in the ropes.
After a commercial, Takeshita dropped Guevara with a brainbuster. Guevara countered a running knee strike. Takeshita gave Guevara a release German suplex while on his knees. Guevara flipped out of a deadlift German suplex and caught Takeshita with a Spanish fly for a near fall. Guevara missed a shooting star press, but hit a Canadian destoryer for a near fall. Takeshita hit a blue thunder bomb for a near fall.
Both guys fought up to the top rope. Takeshita hit an avalanche German suplex form the top, then followed up with a lariat for a near fall. Melo grabbed Takeshita’s leg to distract Takeshita, and Guevara ran in with a knee strike. Guevara then hit the GTH on Takeshita to get the pinfall. Guevara needed to win, but Takehsita really didn’t need another loss.
– QTV segment. This was cringeworthy. They mocked Wardlow again. Marshall is using a suplex into a sitout powerbomb as his new finisher; footage of this from Dark was shown. Let’s get to the point where Wardlow destroys these guys already.
– Earlier today, Ethan Page signed the contract for a match with Hook next Wednesday in Long Island. Matt Hardy drew up the paperwork (since Stokley Hathaway is MIA), and Page has no idea how any of that works. Matt winks to the camera while Page signs, so I’m sure there’s no shenanigans there.
Brody King & Malakai Black (w/ Julia Hart) went to a no contest with The Best Friends (8:15 aired)
Trent Beretta and Black started out, and Beretta hit a nice standing meteora. Chuck Taylor got the tag and Black destroyed him with knee strikes. Brody King got the tag and floored Taylor with a clothesline. The fight went to the floor to usher in a split-screen break.
Beretta got the hot tag after the commercial. He suplexed Black and hit King with a spinning DDT. Beretta took out King with a tope con hilo, then came off the top with a shotgun dropkick on Black for a near fall. Black hit Beretta with a knee, but the Best Friends hit the half-and-half/soul food combination. They tried to give the people what they want, but King charged in to break that up. King caught Beretta going for a plancha and chokeslammed him against the ring apron. King powerbombed Taylor through a ringside table. Beretta hit King with a chair, and Black hit Beretta with a chair, and the referee called for a bell. With no winner declared, I beleive the match was thrown out.
Orange Cassidy tried to run to help his Best Friends, but Buddy Murphry cut him off. Cassidy tried for the Orange Punch on Murphy, but Murphy blocked it with his title belt, injuring Cassidy’s hand. King and Black delivered Dante’s Inferno on Taylor. The crowd chanted for the House of Black as they left.
Later in the show, it is annoucned The House of Black will defend the World Trios titles against Orange Cassidy & The Best Friends on Dynamite Wednesday.
– Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland exchanged pre-recorded barbs at each other. Swerve thinks he’s a mogul, but if Lee puts Swerve six feet under, will that just make him an underground rapper? That was a good line from Lee.
Taya Valkyrie defeated Marina Shafir (2:37)
The ring announcer said “we have a problem” when Marina Shafir came out. Jade Cargill and her crew came out to watch the match while Valkyrie and Shafir struggled over an armlock. Shafir and Valkyrie didn’t feel like they were on the same page here. After a long two minutes, Valkyrie hit the Road to Valhalla to get the pinfall.
After the match, Mark Sterling sent his legal processor down to give Valkyrie a restraining order to keep her from using the move. Of course, Valkyrie gave the process server the Road to Valhalla too. Cargill actually sold here and tried to charge at Valkyrie, but Sterling and Leila Grey held her back.
– Anna Jay cut a promo on Julia Hart and promised to choke her out.
Juice Robinson defeated Action Andretti (9:05)
Last week, Robinson cut a promo where he said he didn’t want to wrestle in Missouri. And tonight, he wrestled in Missouri. Andretti caught Robinson with a tornio for a near fall before the commercial.
After a break, Robinson gave Andretti a stomach breaker, then buried a knee into his midsection. Robinson continued to call Andretti “Ricky” throughout the match because he’s so focused on Ricky Starks next Wednesday. Andretti came back with a forearm and elbow and a flurry of kicks that sent Robinson to the floor. Andretti followed him out with a tope. Andretti hit an Arabian Press on the floor, then a springboard lariat in the ring. Andretti hit a spinning DDT for a near fall. Juice caught Andretti with a leg lariat, then hit his forward DDT (The Juice is Loose) for the pinfall.
After the match, Robinson set up Andretti for the roshambeaux, but Ricky Starks ran him off to end the show.
Final Thoughts:
This was the very definition of a throwaway show. There’s a million hours of wrestling on this weekend; you don’t need to carve any time out of your schedule to watch this.
Four matches will make up this Friday’s AEW Rampage including a high-profile singles match between Konosuke Takeshita and Sammy Guevara.
Guevara has his eyes on a title match with AEW World Champion MJF while Takeshita is looking for his fifth straight singles win. This will be their second-ever singles match and first since 2018 in DDT.
Two thirds of the AEW Trios Champions will be in traditional tag team action as the Kings of the Black Throne (Malakai Black & Brody King) will face Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta).
Taya Valkyrie will look to keep her AEW win streak rolling ahead of an anticipated TBS title match with Jade Cargill as she faces Marina Shafir.
Ahead of his match with Ricky Starks next Wednesday, Juice Robinson will look for his sixth straight win as he takes on Action Andretti.
Here’s the lineup that is being taped after tonight’s Dynamite in St. Louis, Missouri:
Sammy Guevara vs. Action Andretti II will headline Friday’s AEW Rampage as Andretti will be looking to avenge his late-February loss.
Andretti made the save for Ricky Starks at Revolution as Guevara walked down to the ring to aid Chris Jericho.
In a battle of the first two AEW Women’s Champions, Riho faces Nyla Rose in their first singles match since February 2020. These two squared off on the first-ever Dynamite that saw Riho win the inaugural title.
Konosuke Takeshita will look to extend his recent winning streak as he faces Preston Vance of La Faccion Ingobernable.
Former AEW Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed will also be in action as they continue their climb back into contention.
Fresh off his win over Christian Cage at Revolution in The Final Burial, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry will share some thoughts and perhaps give a hint as to what is next for him.

Taped in Sacramento.
Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho were on commentary.
Sammy Guevara defeated Action Andretti (12:10)
This is a rematch from last month. Andretti lost that encounter after some malfeasance from Guevara and Daniel Garcia, who was not at ringside for this encounter.
The fight went to the floor early, where both men exchanged chops and Guevara threw Andretti into the ring barricades. When Andretti got the upper hand, Guevara tried begging off, and Andretti caught him with a pescado through the ropes.
Back in the ring, Andretti hit a shotgun dropkick and the split legged moonsault for a near fall. Andretti clotheslined Guevara to the floor. He tried to follow him out with a springboard, but Guevara countered with a knee strike. Both guys were out on the floor and that usually means it’s time for a split-screen ad break.
After the break, Andretti fought out of a chinlock, only to collide with Guevara when they both went for crossbody blocks. Both men fought to their feet while exchanging forearms, and Andretti took Guevara down with a backbreaker/neckbreaker combination. Andretti hit Guevara with an Arabian press on the floor. There was a light chant for Andretti, who hit a springboard 450 splash for a near fall. Andretti caught Guevara with a Spanish fly for another near fall. Andretti went for a standing shooting star press, but Guevara got his knees up. Guevara hit a DDT-like move, but Andretti rolled to the floor before Guevara could get the cover.
On the floor, Guevara set up Andretti on the time keeper’s table. Andretti popped up and caught Guevara, hit a superkick, and set up Guevara on the table. Andretti came off the top with a splash on Guevara, though the table, which finally livened up the crowd a bit.
Andretti rolled Guevara back in the ring, who was selling his knee. While the ref tended to Guevara, Andretti went to the top. Daniel Garcia ran in and shoved Andretti off the top. Guevara then hit the GTH and got the pinfall.
It didn’t feel like the crowd was really into this match, which was not as good as their encounter a few weeks ago.
– Darby Allin video package. Allin will make his intentions clear on Dyanmite next week.
– Jungle Boy Jack Perry recapped the Final Burial from Sunday. He’s done with Christian, and every man with a championship belt around their waist better watch out!
– Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall cut a promo. Hobbs’ championship belt is on his shoulder, so he’s safe from Perry. Marshall will unveil the first episode of QTV on Dynamite next week.
The Acclaimed (w/ Billy Gunn) defeated Jack Cartwheel & Starboy Charlie (1:41)
Something got bleeped from Caster’s rap, but he got in a good line about running their opponents out of California like Walgreens. Starboy Charlie got made fun of by the commentary team for wearing overalls.
The Acclaimed got the win after the Arrival and Mic Drop. After the match, Matt Menard and Angelo Parker came out with a JAS t-shirt, but the Acclaimed still aren’t interested. If the Acclaimed aren’t gonna be in the tag title picture, they need somthing better than a feud with than the JAS C-team.
– In a pretaped interview, Chris Jericho promised to win the World Trios title in Winnipeg by the spirit of Bob Holliday and Roddy Piper.
Konosuke Takeshita defeated Preston Vance (w/ Jose the Assistant) (6:49 aired)
Takeshita’s name on the KhanTron was the first thing that really popped the crowd all night. Don Callis (Tony Schiavone’s favorite guy from Winnipeg) joined the commentary team to watch Takeshita. Takeshita hit Vance with a flying clothesline while Callis compared his body type to Lou Thez on commentary.
Three minutes of the match took place during a split-screen break. After the commercial, both guys were down after hitting each other with rolling forearms. Takeshita hit a knee strike off the middle rope, then hit the blue thunder bomb for a near fall. Takeshita hit another knee strike, but Jose assisted Vance by putting his foot on the rope to break up the count. Takeshita took out Jose with a forearm, and Vance hit a discus lariat for a near fall. Vance went for the full nelson, but Takeshita escaped, caught Vance with a backslide and got the pinfall.
– Swerve Strickland (who might be getting more evil by the day) has more in store for Keith Lee. Both the Mogul Affiliates are on the shelf (not Trench!) thanks to Lee, but Strickland has more bullets in the chamber.
– Mark Briscoe (who is quickly becoming one of my favorite performers) was in the ring to cut a promo. Briscoe announced a “Reach for the Sky Ladder Match” for the ROH World Tag Team Titles at the next ROH pay-per-view. The crowd popped huge for this announcement. Briscoe announced the first team to enter the ladder match, The Lucha Brothers.
I hope Briscoe and the Lucha Bros continue to team in trios matches, and the team is named “Dem Lucha Boys.”
– Matt Hardy promised to train Stokley Hathaway for his match with Hook. I’m all for some Rocky-style training vignettes for the next month before Hook gets his hands on Hathaway.
Riho defeated Nyla Rose (w/ Marina Shafir) (12:01)
Riho won the World Women’s title on the first episode of Dynamite in October 2019. Nyla won the return match in February of 2020 to take the title. And three years later, this is the rubber match.
Riho got a near fall after a crossbody off the top. Riho tried for a suplex, but Rose easily reversed the move. Riho snapped Rose’s neck on the top rope. Shafir pulled Riho out of the ring behind the ref’s back and threw her to the floor.
After a break, Riho charged into a body block from Rose. Rose for a superplex, but Riho fought back, then came off the top with a diving hurricanrana. Riho hit a double foot stomp off the top for a near fall. Riho tried for a northern lights suplex, but Rose blocked that and hit a powerslam for a near fall. Rose hung Riho up in the ropes and delivered a guillotine knee drop for another near fall.
Rose went to the top for a senton bomb, but Riho got out of the way. Riho hit the northern lights suplex to a huge pop, but only got two. Riho went for a running knee strike, but Rose dodged her and Riho hit the corner. Rose went for a cannonball in the corner, but Riho avoided that and caught Rose with a crucifix bomb for a near fall. Shafir tripped up Riho. With Riho distracted, Rose tried for the Beast Bomb, but Riho rolled through and cradled Rose to get the pinfall.
After the match, Shafir and Rose laid out Riho. As they walked to the back, The Outcasts (Saraya, Toni Storm & Ruby Soho) came out. Rose and Shafir let them pass, and then they attacked Riho and spray painted a green “L” on Riho. The heels left Riho laying to end the show.
Final Thoughts:
I don’t want to say this was a bad show, but it definitely lacked energy. The arena was darkened for most of the show and it felt like the crowd didn’t react to very much.
A singles match between Action Andretti and Sammy Guevara is set for next week’s AEW Rampage.
On Friday’s show, Andretti got involved during a match between Daniel Garcia and Ricky Starks. Andretti attacked Guevara, who was freely interfering during the match, leading the two to brawl to the back. Starks then was able to score the win over Garcia.
After the match, Guevara returned to the announce table and told the announcers that he wanted a match with Andretti next week. Later in the show, it was confirmed that the match would take place next Friday.
Andretti was signed to AEW after scoring a win over Chris Jericho back at Winter is Coming in December. Since then, he has become a thorn in the side of Jericho, who has gone as far as attacking Andretti with a fireball. Ricky Starks has also been feuding with Jericho and the Jericho Appreciation Society, seeking a rematch between himself and Jericho after Jericho and the JAS attacked Starks following his victory.
Konnan has commented on Tay Melo and Sammy Guevara missing AAA Noche De Campeones.
Tay and Guevara were scheduled to defend their AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships on Wednesday’s show but ended up being replaced by Abismo Negro Jr. and Flammer. Konnan said on his podcast recently that AEW’s Tony Khan pulled them from the event.
Konnan said:
“I will just say that Tony [Khan] pulled Tay because some girl, I don’t know who, had COVID. I’m not sure why Sammy was pulled because he didn’t even appear on the f—ing show.”
Later in the podcast, Konnan commented on the difficulty he has had booking Tay and Guevara in AAA and the multiple times they have missed shows.
The first time, they missed their flight.
The second time it was, this girl is Brazilian Tay Melo, and I know this to be a fact because one time when I was handling Rey’s (Mysterio) business when he was out of WWE, they wanted him to go to Brazil and to get a visa is not easy. So, she needed to get a visa.
Tay sent me her visa papers and she was like, ‘I tried to get my visa, I couldn’t get it on time, but we will be at the next show for sure. They sent me a video, everything was cool and the next thing I know Tony pulled her because somebody had COVID. What I don’t understand is why didn’t he just send Sammy because Sammy didn’t do s–t on the show.
He would also say that he “gets along with both” Guevara and Tay.
Tay teamed with Anna Jay and defeated Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale on the December 28 AEW Dynamite, the same night that AAA Noche De Campeones in Acapulco.
Konnan cut a promo during the AAA show and said that he was stripping Tay and Guevara of the titles because they had cancelled multiple times and were making demands of the company such as wanting their own referee.
Abismo Negro Jr. and Flammer defeated Komander & Sexy Star II and Octagon Jr. & Lady Shani in a triple threat match to win the vacant titles.
I am normally live on Friday’s to chat WWE Smackdown and AEW Rampage, however due to my schedule on Friday (I was at GCW), I’ve decided to do a special Saturday stream. So let’s hang out and talk about the Friday shows!

After defeating Konosuke Takeshita last Friday, Moxley will take on Sammy Guevara in a follow-up from two weeks ago on Dynamite when Moxley took Guevara out after he interfered in the Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. Jake Hager & Daniel Garcia match.
The two have faced each other twice before in singles action with Moxley winning both of them.
Former AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker will take on Skye Blue after Blue challenged her backstage Wednesday. The two have faced each other twice in tag team matches since early-November, and this will be their second-ever singles match with the first taking place on an April 2021 edition of AEW Dark: Elevation.
After Dustin Rhodes came to AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy’s aid after Trent Seven and Kip Sabian attacked him last Friday, Rhodes will team with Cassidy and Best Friends against Sabian, Seven and The Butcher & The Blade in eight-man tag team action.
Former TNT Champion Wardlow will be in action against an opponent to be named.
Here’s the full lineup that is being taped after Wednesday’s Dynamite in Garland, Texas:

Hey there happy Wednesday! Tune into Speak Now Pro Wrestling hosted by Denise Salcedo as she reviews the November 9th edition of AEW Dynamite.
Wednesday’s show featured the build towards AEW Full Gear, a heated promo between Saraya and Britt Baker, MJF/Moxley build, and a 2-out-of-3 falls match between Sammy Guevara and Bryan Danielson.
