In less than seven months, Roxanne Perez went from being signed by WWE to becoming a focal point in WWE NXT.
The 20-year-old formerly known as Rok-C signed in February, won the first-ever NXT Women’s Breakout tournament and then picked up her first taste of NXT gold when she won the Women’s Tag Team titles along with Cora Jade.
I talked with Perez at the WrestleMania 39 launch party last week at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium about her rise in 2022, her tryout experience, and some key talents she got advice from.
The road to WWE
Born Carla Gonzalez, she began training at just 13, moving on to Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school and promotion at 16.
In September 2021, she signed a Ring of Honor contract and defeated Miranda Alize in a tournament final to claim the inaugural ROH Women’s World title at Death Before Dishonor. She made eight title defenses of the title, including a win over Willow Nightingale at last December’s Final Battle.
Then, the company went on a hiatus and released their contracted talent. Perez said that William Regal reached out to her after that announcement and invited her to a tryout.
That tryout took place in December at their Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. However, it took her longer than that to get hired.
“I did my tryout in December…a full blown tryout in Orlando at the PC and there was, like, 50 people, I didn’t get chosen from that tryout, so I got invited to a three-week tryout in February and that was pretty brutal because I was at the PC from like 7, 8 AM to 8 PM every single day. We were just training and basically, they’re trying to break you down to see if you’re gonna quit or not. I was like, “I am not gonna quit. This is my dream.” It was kind of a long process but, honestly, I am so glad that I got that second tryout because I met so many great people there. I learned so much and learned so much about myself too. Now I am finally here, so it was all worth it.”
Perez received advice from Bianca Belair during her extended tryout that really helped her during that period — especially since she had been questioning herself after not getting hired after the first tryout.
“I met a couple of the girls from the main roster and they are all literally so nice. They are always open to giving advice and whatnot. I do remember that at my extended tryout, Bianca Belair was there and I asked her for some advice and honestly her advice really stuck with me. Like I said, it was the second tryout and I had some thoughts like, ‘What did I do wrong?’ and she was the one that told me, ‘Don’t be embarrassed to just go out there and if you have a thought in your head and you think it’s too crazy, just do it.’ She basically said just leave it all out there with no regrets and that’s exactly what I did. I feel like I don’t even know if she realized it, but that helped me like so so much.”
Beginning in NXT
Perez made her WWE NXT TV debut quickly and also won the first-ever NXT Women’s Breakout tournament and later became an NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. I asked her about how she felt about her success thus far with the promotion.
“It’s crazy. It’s surreal because I am only 20 and I have done alot in my wrestling career, but it’s just so surreal to me because I would have never thought….when I was younger, I always knew that I was gonna be a WWE Superstar and there were no ands, ifs or buts about it,” she explained. “But I never thought I would be freaking NXT Women’s Tag team Champion within four months. It just fuels my love for WWE and this business. It just makes little 10-year-old me so, so happy because I am proud, because I never thought this would be happening so fast. I am thankful.”
Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade’s friendship came to an end on NXT last night.
Jade betrayed Perez, costing her a chance to become NXT Women’s Champion. Mandy Rose retained the title against Perez in last night’s main event after Jade struck Perez with an NXT Women’s Tag Team title belt.
Jade continued her attack after the match and beat Perez down with a skateboard. Jade revealed that jealously was the reason for the betrayal, bringing up that she brought Perez to NXT and calling her selfish.
Last night’s show opened with the revelation that Perez had been attacked by someone in the NXT parking lot, but Perez chose to fight on and still face Rose. Perez got the NXT Women’s Championship match by cashing in her Breakout Tournament title shot contract.
Jade’s betrayal comes just one week after she and Perez defeated Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) at the Great American Bash to win the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.
One week after winning the Women’s Tag Team titles, Roxanne Perez will look to capture more gold on NXT.
Perez is cashing in her Breakout Tournament title shot contract to challenge for Mandy Rose’s NXT Women’s Championship tonight. Perez & Cora Jade defeated Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) at the Great American Bash last Tuesday to become the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Perez announced her intention to cash in last week, saying that she wants to put an end to Toxic Attraction’s reign once and for all.
The Great American Bash also saw Bron Breakker retain his NXT Championship against Cameron Grimes, Carmelo Hayes retain the North American Championship against Grayson Waller, and The Creed Brothers retain the NXT Tag Team titles against their fellow Diamond Mine members Roderick Strong & Damon Kemp.
Tonight’s show will feature the fallout from last week’s special. Plus, Apollo Crews vs. Giovanni Vinci and Solo Sikoa vs. Von Wagner are set for tonight.
Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
**********
The show begins with a music video recapping The Great American Bash.
Suddenly, cameras cut to a parking lot where Roxanne Perez is the victim of an apparent attack. Cora Jade is by her side as Perez flails on the ground selling the beatdown. This immediately puts the women’s title match in question for later tonight.
Opening match for this episode of NXT was set up in a skit last week when the two combatants had words. Crew also had words with someone else on the previous episode, which plays into the finish of his match that is up next.
Giovanni Vinci defeats Apollo Crews
Vinci pins Crews, after outside interference when Xyon Quinn attacks Crews at ringside.
Vinci is in control working over Crews as the show cuts to a commercial break. Crews eventually mounts a comeback when the show returns from the break.
Vinci went for a springboard off the middle rope, and Crews dropkicks him in mid-air. Crews continues to rally, and he is fired up. Crews counters Vinci to set up a trifecta of German suplexes. The live studio audience chants “suplex city.”
Crews is cut off after Vinci nails him with a lariat. Vinci lifts Crews into a delayed vertical suplex, and Vinci gets a two count. Another two count for Vinci on a schoolboy roll-up. Crews then smacks Vinci in the face with a high kick.
Ever the ring general, Vinci rolls out of the ring so that Crews is unable to capitalize. A planted fan is standing up at ringside filming Vinci with a cellphone camera. Vinci snatches the phone from the fan. Crew gets Vinci and rolls him back into the ring.
Vinci rolls into the ring with the cellphone. The referee picks up the phone, and he goes across the ring to get rid of it. Meanwhile, Xyon Quinn hops the barricade behind the ref’s back. Quinn attacks Crews, leveling him with a forearm smash.
Aftering the outside interference, Quinn rolls Crews back into the ring. Vinci executes a sit-out Last Ride powerbomb, and Vinci pins Crews for a tainted victory.
McKenzie Mitchell interviews Cora Jade from a backstage set. Jade blames Toxic Attraction for the attack on Perez from earlier tonight. Jade says those “bitches” will have “hell to pay” if Perez is not cleared to wrestle tonight. Keep in mind how ready and overanxious Jade is to replace Perez. That plays into the story later on.
A vignette with Tiffany Stratton shows her at the nail salon. She compliments the person giving her a manicure, and then she buries that person to management moments later.
JD McDonagh’s cheapshot on Cameron Grimes
Cameron Grimes is heading to the ring for a monologue. Hands in his pockets and head down, Grimes looks dejected as he quietly walks down the ramp.
Grimes apologizing to the fans for not winning. He flubs a line and almost calls the NXT Championship the North American Championship. Grimes rolls with it, and he turns the flub into part of the promo. Great recovery.
“Thought I was going to the moon,” Grimes says, “but I crashed into the sun.”
Grimes noted that NXT Champion Bron Breakker is out with a supposed injury.
Grimes’ monologue is interrupted by JD McDonagh, who re-debuted last week on NXT (under his new moniker in a cliffhanger angle where he attacked Breakker).
McDonagh says he does not want to kick a guy when he is down, yet he goes on to cut a promo on Grimes.
Although he says Grimes showed a lot of heart last week, McDonagh suggests to Grimes that he “wrap up this little pity party, and do your crying in the back.”
McDonagh says Grimes became old news when he lost to Breakker. McDonash begins to ramble about when he was supposed to debut. Thankfully, Grimes stops him. Grimes calls him an “Irish asshole.”
They glare at each other, and McDonagh suddenly cheapshots Grimes with a headbutt to the face. Grimes fires up, but McDonagh powders to the outside. They scream at each from a distance, and Grimes rages. Clearly, this sets up a match between the two.
Damon Kemp and the Creed Brothers are watching video of Reed’s match last week. Creeds leave, and Roderick Strong enters the room. He shuts off the video, and he cuts a promo on Kemp. Strong reveals he is facing Kemp in a match next week.
Grayson Waller in a backstage interview cuts a promo on Wes Lee.
Tatum Paxley defeats Kayden Carter
Paxley pins Carter, with help from coaching by Ivy Nile.
Nile comes down to ringside during the match. Nile has been mentoring Paxley, and she offers supports as a surprise second in this bout.
Carter has Paxley in a leglock, and Paxley struggles to reach the ropes. Paxley gets a rope break, and Nile offers some quick advice. Paxley then catches Carter in a guillotine, and Paxley rolls through and transitions into a pinning position. Paxley scores the pinfall for an upset.
Joe Gacy’s cult faction is now called Schism. So there’s that. The hooded druids will apparently reveal themselves next week. He also invited others to set under his cult’s tree, or something like that. I don’t think that is the same learning tree Ernie Ladd was talking about.
In a pre-taped skit, Briggs & Jensen are drinking beer at a country bar. Fallon Henley is bartending, and they toast to Briggs & Jensen winning the NXT UK Tag Team Championship.
Into the bar walks Pretty Deadly, dressed in cowboys hats and Western apparel. Pretty Deadly cut a promo on Briggs & Jensen. There is almost a bar fight, but there is a challenge instead for a match next week on NXT. Later in the show, a NXT UK Tag Team Championship title match is made official for next Tuesday.
Sanga defeats Duke Hudson
Sanga dominates over Hudson, and Sanga pins Hudson after a chokeslam.
Last week Sanga did a cannonball into a swimming pool. That caused Hudson to get an ear infection after he got water in his ears. Thus, they settled their dispute in a wrestling match. Sanga then wins in dominant fashion.
In a backstage interview, the Toxic Attraction trio denies any involvement in the earlier assault on Roxanne Perez.
Solo Sikoa vs. Von Wagner (with Mr. Stone & Sofia Cromwell) ends with a double countout
The fighting begins before the bell. Sikoa meets Wagner on the entrance ramp, and brawling ensues. They get into the ring, and they lock up as the bell rings.
The hoss fight goes through a commercial break. Wagner has Sikoa grounded on the mat as the show returns from the break.
Sikoa explodes into a comeback, and the fight spills outside the ring. Wagner smashes Sikoa’s head into the announce desk, and Sikoa no sells. A slugfest ensues at ringside. In the meantime, the ref counts out both. The match ends in a countout, but the two keep fighting until being pulled apart for now. Yet, the fight is not yet over. More on that later.
A great vignette features North American Champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams celebrating at a penthouse pool with apparent groupies.
Lash Legend cuts a promo ahead of her match tonight against Indi Hartwell. Foreshadowing the return of a character, Legends rolls a basketball on the floor. A baseball bat stops the basketball from rolling, teasing the return of Alba Fyre.
Andre Chase and his Chase University students are touring London. A humorous video package shows Chase with his star students, Bodhi Hayward and Thea Hail, as they see the sights.
Indi Hartwell defeats Lash Legend
Hartwell pins Legend after a distraction and a botch.
Alba Fyre appears during the match to taunt Legend. Fyre stands on a perch overlooking the ring, while the basketball seen in an earlier skit.
Hartwell slips trying to springboard off the top rope. She falls into the ring, and they call an audible. Legend goes to cover Hartwell, but Hartwell reverses it to awkwardly cradle Legend for a three count.
Fyre confronts Legend after the match, and Fyre points her bat at Legend like she is Sting. Legend flees as Fyre swings the bat at her.
Solo Sikoa and Von Wagner are still brawling. They burst through a backstage door with a slugfest. Officials and referees pour in behind them trying to separate the two.
Sikoa and Wagner continue their brawl after a commercial break, and the fight spills outside the building. They are eventually separated. Sofia Cromwell is able to calm down Wagner. Mr. Stone cuts a promo on Sikoa, who in turn tosses Stone into a nearby dumpster.
Tony D’Angelo tells Legado del Fantasma that we are about to find how loyal they are to the family.
Tony D’Angelo & Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo defeats Edris Enofe & Malik Blade
D’Angelo pins Blade to win the match. D’Angelo afterwards orders a beatdown.
The heels work over Enofe, until a hot tag to Blade. Stacks bumps and feeds for Blade. At ringside, D’Angelo shoves Enfoe backwards into the ring steps. That distracts Blade, pausing his rally.
Stacks cuts off Blade, and D’Angelo tags in. D’Angelo executes a twisting fisherman’s buster, and he pins Blade.
Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde jump Blade after the match, acting on orders from D’Angelo. The heels lay out Blade, and they stand over him. D’Angelo seems proud of Toro and Wilde.
Nikkita Lyons denies any involvement in the assault on Roxanne Perez. However, Lyons does offer to take her place in the title match.
NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose, flanked by Toxic Attraction, is heading to the ring. Her challenger for tonight’s main event remains in question.
A vignette features a new masked character named Axiom. The anonymous character takes inspiration from comic books to become his own version of a masked superhero. He debuts next week.
Announced for next Tuesday on NXT:
Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs defend their NXT UK Tag Team titles against challengers Pretty Deadly
Cameron Grimes vs. JD McDonagh
Roderick Strong vs. Damon Kemp
Axiom in-ring debut
The Schism reveal their identities
Up next is the main event, but first an angle.
The Spirit of ’76
NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose comes to the ring alongside Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolan. Rose says Perez could not beat her tonight, and Rose claims no one can beat her for the title.
The live studio audience gets into an impromptu shouting match. “Shut the hell up” chants are countered by shouts of “let her talk.”
Rose says no one can challenge her for the title because she runs NXT. Cora Jade interrupts Rose, telling Rose to shut up. Jade says the fans were promised a title match, and that is what they are going to get.
Jade says she will step in replace Perez in the title match. Suddenly, Perez hobbles on stage selling her ribs. Perez passes Jade on the entrance ramp, and Jade tries to tell Perez not to wrestle.
Jade and Perez briefly bicker. This seems to plant seeds for a future heel turn. Is Jade the unknown assailant in a Tonya Harding angle? The plot thickens.
Mandy Rose (with Toxic Attraction) defeats Roxanne Perez (with Cora Jade) to retain her title
Rose pins Perez after outside interference, when Cora Jade turns heel on Perez.
Rose during the match works over Perez, targeting the taped up back and ribs. The match goes through a commercial break with Perez in peril.
The tape is removed around the ribs during the break, and Rose continues to target the injury when the show returns from commercials.
Perez rallies, and she makes a comeback. Rose crashes into a ring post, and she tumbles out of the ring. Perez leaps through the ropes with a dive to the outside.
Delivering her finisher on the floor, Perez executes Pop Rocks on Rose. Jade seemingly looks to help Perez, but that was a ruse. Jade then turns on Perez.
Jade takes the NXT Women’s Tag Team title belt she brought to ringside with her, and she hits Perez in her injured back with the title belt. Jade has now turned on her own tag team partner, despite them still being the tag champs.
Jade sneers at Perez as Rose delivers a running knee strike that lays out Perez. Rose then covers Perez for a three count, and Rose retains her title.
Jade attacks Perez after the match, and Jade is supposed to smash a skateboard into pieces as she hits Perez with it. Instead, the skateboard breaks into pieces as Jade is swinging it, which is unintentional comedy. An enraged Jade screams she hates Perez as the show goes off the air.
Get the week started with on-camera personality Denise Salcedo as she reviews NXT 2.0 The Great American Bash 2022! There was a lot that happened on this show including new Women’s Tag Team Champions, a mystery QR code, rubbing alcohol, and an NXT Championship match.
A Women’s Championship match headlines next week’s WWE NXT.
Mandy Rose will defend her NXT Women’s title against Women’s Breakout Tournament winner and new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Roxanne Perez on next week’s episode of NXT 2.0.
After Perez and Cora Jade defeated Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne for the Women’s Tag titles on this week’s show, Perez announced that she would be cashing in the title shot guaranteed her by virtue of winning the Breakout Tournament next week.
Also set for next week, Apollo Crews will be in action against Giovanni Vinci. Their bout was set up in an in-ring promo segment on this week’s show. Vinci interrupted a Crews monologue and challenged him to face him.
In another bout set for next Tuesday, Solo Sikoa will face Von Wagner. Their match was made official after Sikoa interrupted a backstage promo segment involving Wagner this week.
Next week’s lineup:
WWE NXT, Tuesday, July 12 —
NXT Women’s Championship: Mandy Rose (c) vs. Roxanne Perez
Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez are the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Jade and Perez won the titles after Perez pinned Gigi Dolin with a code red. The finish had Mandy Rose interfere on behalf of her group. However, the referee threw her out. Cora Jade eventually took Jacey Jayne to the floor as Perez picked up the win.
This ends Dolin & Jayne’s run with the titles after over 90 days, defeating Raquel Rodriguez and Dakota Kai at the Stand & Deliver kickoff show back on April 2. Aside from Rodriguez and Kai’s short three-day reign as champions, Toxic Attraction had held the belts since October 26.
Jade and Perez have been feuding with Toxic Attraction since Perez won the NXT Breakout tournament, earning her a future shot at the NXT Women’s Championship. Perez, in the meantime, opted to challenge Dolin and Jayne for the Tag Team titles. Kayden Carter and Katana Chance argued they deserved a shot. The two teams ended up having a match for the number one contendership, with Jade and Perez emerging victorious.
Three title matches have been added to next week’s Great American Bash edition of NXT.
Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez will challenge Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin and Jacey Jayne) for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles, while Carmelo Hayes will defend the North American title against Grayson Waller. Meanwhile, The Creed Brothers will defend the NXT Tag Team titles against fellow Diamond Mine members Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp.
Additionally, Wendy Choo will take on Tiffany Stratton, while Trick Williams will face Wes Lee.
Jade and Perez won tonight’s number one contendership match, defeating Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. The two teams confronted one another last week, leading to a brawl over who should face Toxic Attraction next.
On this week’s NXT, Grayson Waller asked Hayes if he could sign some memorabilia. Hayes agreed, but later found out that he had unwittingly signed a contract for a title defense.
Roderick Strong and The Creed Brothers confronted one another in a backstage segment on tonight’s show after dissension during a tag team match against The Dyad and Joe Gacy led to a defeat. Strong was upset and challenged The Creeds to a title match for next week.
Here is the lineup so far for next week’s Great American Bash:
WWE NXT Great American Bash, Tuesday, July 5, 8 p.m. Eastern time —
NXT Championship: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Cameron Grimes
NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship: Toxic Attraction (c) vs. Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade
NXT North American Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Grayson Waller
NXT Tag Team Championship: Creed Brothers (c) vs. Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp
A six-woman tag team match headlines tonight’s episode of NXT.
Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) will take on the team of Roxanne Perez, Cora Jade & Indi Hartwell. Last week, Hartwell came to Perez and Jade’s defense and saved them from a beatdown by Toxic Attraction.
Perez defeated Tiffany Stratton last Tuesday to become the winner of the inaugural NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament. In winning the tournament, Perez earned a contract for an NXT women’s title match.
Toxic Attraction confronted Perez and Jade after the Women’s Breakout Tournament finals. Hartwell then made her way out to help Perez and Jade even the odds.
NXT Tag Team Champions The Creed Brothers will make their first title defense tonight as they face Malik Blade & Edris Enofe. Plus, Wes Lee takes on Xyon Quinn in a rematch from two weeks ago. Quinn called Lee’s victory a fluke and has promised to prove that in their rematch.
Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
*********
Cold open with no introductory packages. Wade Barrett and Vic Joseph are ringside to welcome viewers to the show, which is kicking off with a tag team title match.
The champions and challengers are already in the ring as the show opens, and the bell soon sounds to start the match.
The Creed Brothers (Champions Julius & Brutus Creed) defeat Malik Blade & Edris Enofe to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship
Brutus pins Blade, and the Creed easily retain in their first title defense.
Lots of mat wrestling and grappling early on, and that gave way to power moves by the Creeds. Enofe took a bump over the ropes where his back lands on the apron, and that looked painful.
The match goes through a commercial break. Another hard landing for Enofe after being thrown around by Brutus. Then it is Julius’ turn to suplex the challengers.
Brief rally after Blade hits a flying forearm smash. Blade looks to run wild, but he is soon cut off when Julius catches him on a dive. Julius then drops him when going for a rolling powerslam of sorts, which they immediately redid. Blade is planted into the mat by Julius, and Brutus delivers a sliding lariat. Brutus goes on to covers Blade for a pinfall.
In a backstage skit, Indi Hartwell bemoans not having a best friend anymore, after she sees the camaraderie between Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade. Hartwell offers advice from a “wily veteran,” telling them “this place is crazy.” Jade and Perez console her, and they agree they all have a common enemy in Toxic Attractions. High fives all around.
A vignette shows Apollo Crews reflecting on his return to NXT. Crews is in a diner when another patron is giving the staff a hard time. Crews comes to their aid by attacking the patron.
Henley pins Stratton after outside interference by Wendy Choo. Both Henley and Stratton show lots of fire from the outset, but the match itself was rather short.
Choo is seen hopping across the stage during Stratton’s entrance, unbeknownst to Stratton. Choo later bounces down to ringside on a hippity hop ball, and Choo throws confetti in Stratton’s face in full view of the referee. The ref lets the interfere go, and Henley uses an inside cradle for a pinfall.
NXT Champion Bron Breakker is backstage when Duke Hudson goads him into making a title match for tonight. Breakker defends the title against Hudson later in the show.
Lash Legend cuts a promo on Alba Fyre, and Legend runs down her impressive athletic background.
Wes Lee defeats Xyon Quinn
Lee pins Quinn after a twisting senton off the top rope. Another great win by Lee, as his push continues.
Lee shoots in at the start, and Quinn soon overpowers him. Lee uses his quickness to counter. He drops Quinn with a kick, and Lee leaps off the top rope with a twisting corkscrew senton bomb. Lee then covers Quinn for a pinfall.
Nathan Frazier talks about his background in a vignette. This is good character development.
The Dyad (with Joe Gacy) defeat Dante Chen & Javier Bernal
The Dyad is a fancy name for the druids that lurk around Gacy. They wrestle while wearing hoods, and they make big, exaggerated movements. This campy stuff looks like a gimmick from a bygone era. The Dyad would fit better on a WWF show from 1995.
They execute a double team DDT on Bernal, and he is pinned by one member of The Dyad.
Gacy enters the ring for a post-match promo. Oh joy. He says a lot of words only for him to blame the fans. The Dyad are apparently heels because of the fans. Does Jim Valley know about this?
Sanga and Xyon Quinn have a confrontation backstage. Quinn storms off as Sanga remarks he has found his next opponent.
Nikkita Lyons is featured in a video package where she vows to return from injury.
Tony D’Angelo hosts the promotion of Stacks and Two Dimes
Kind of a lame duck segment considering Two Dimes was released from WWE by the time this show airs on television.
D’Angelo waxes about how much Stacks and Two Dimes have done for the family. They get promoted from “associates” to “soldiers of the family.” D’Angelo gifts them an expensive watch.
Joining them in the ring for this segment is Santos Escobar and Legado del Fantasma, who all are now in the D’Angelo “family” after losing a stipulation match.
D’Angelo lays down the law to Escobar and company. They all shake D’Angelo’s hand, but they are clearly not happy about doing it.
D’Angelo says it is now time for him to have a championship. That was the cue for NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, who is flanked by Trick Williams.
Hayes and Williams cut promos on D’Angelo. They exchange word with D’Angelo, and he claims to be “The Don of NXT.” Apparently that gives D’Angelo booking power like he is Hulk Hogan in WCW. D’Angelo books himself in a title match next week against Hayes.
Also set up is a tag match later on with Stacks and Two Dimes against Hayes and Williams.
Toxic Attraction cuts a promo on their opponents in the six-woman tag team match set for tonight’s main event.
NXT Champion Bron Breakker defeats Duke Hudson to retain his title
Breakker decisively beats Hudson via pinfall in a short match.
Hudson attempts to jump Breakker before the bell, but that backfires on Hudson. Breakker explodes into a fury. After flying shoulder tackles and a Rick Steiner powerslam, Breakker mows down Hudson with a spear.
Breakker lifts Hudson in a military press, and drops him into a powerslam. Breakker then scores a three count.
Grimes challenges Breakker during post-match confrontation
Cameron Grimes interrupts Breakker’s victory celebration. Grimes and Breakker had a brief interaction earlier in the show that foreshadows Grimes heeling on Breakker.
Grimes addresses Breakker, telling Breakker the reason he is champion is because of his last name. I am assuming he means Breakker’s real last name, not the name “Breakker” itself. Unless I am somehow unaware about the lineage of Breakkers in the wrestling business.
Grimes tells Breakker he respects him, but Grimes notes Breakker’s father is a legend. That is Grimes’ problem with Breakker. Everyone knows who Breakker’s father is, but no one knows about Grimes’ own father.
Grimes’ anger grows as he talks about his father not getting to watch his title win like Breakker’s father being able to see his son win a title.
Grimes says he is catchphrases and such. Grimes challenges Breakker to a title match at The Great American Bash. Breakker accepts the challenge, making the match official for the Bash.
A Diamond Mine skit with bad acting shows more tension within the faction. The Creeds have booked Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp in a tag match next week, much to the chagrin of Strong.
McKenzie Mitchell interviews Von Wagner, who is joined by Mr. Stone and Sofia Cromwell. Stone and Cromwell speak for Wagner. Next week Wagner meets Brooks Jensen in a match where their sides are barred from ringside.
Giovanni Vinci defeats Guru Raaj
Vinci pins Raaj after a sit-out powerbomb in what is a re-debut.
Vinci is a new character portrayed by Fabian Aichner. He looks impressive in the ring as usual, but the jury is still out on the character remake.
For the finish, Vinci executes a Last Ride where he sit-outs when delivering the powerbomb. Vince scores an easy three count.
Solo Sikoa challenges Grayson Waller to a match next week, and Waller reluctantly agrees to the bout next Tuesday.
Grimes is backstage where he confronts Enofe & Blade. He cuts a promo on them for losing their match earlier tonight. Grimes is mad they are leaving before the main event. Grimes claims they are not hungry, but he knows they have potential. Is this the makings of new stable?
NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams defeat Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan
Hayes scores a pinfall to win the match, after he and Williams fight off outside interference.
D’Angelo during the match causes a distraction, allowing the heels to gain control. They work over Hayes after D’Angelo distracts him.
Hot tag to Williams, and he cleans house in the ring. Cruz Del Toro attempts to interfere by doing a springboard into the ring. His flying crossbody backfires, and Williams clotheslines Del Toro out of the ring.
Williams tags in Hayes, and Hayes leaps off the top rope with a guillotine legdrop. Hayes then scores a pinfall.
Later after a commercial break, D’Angelo dresses down Legado del Fantasma as he blames them for the family’s loss tonight.
Matches announced for next Tuesday on NXT include:
Carmelo Hayes defends the NXT North American Championship against Tony D’Angelo
Perez pins Dolan to win the match for the babyface trio.
The heel trio huddles after they powder, and they regroup for an attack. The babyface trio thwarts the heels as the show cuts to a commercial break. The heels look to gain control, but they keep getting thwarted by the face team.
Eventually the heels gain an advantage. Heat on Jade as Toxic Attraction work her over. Hot tag to Perez, and she is a house of fire.
Rose tries to jump in, but Hartwell level her with a strike. Hartwell then tosses Rose out of the ring. Hartwell also shoves Jayne off the top rope. Rose pulls Hartwell out of the ring, but Hartwell hits her with a lariat at ringside.
Perez tags Jade, and Jade climbs the turnbuckles. Jade off the top with a senton where she lands hard on Dolan. Dolan might have gotten hurt, judging by the finish. Jade tags Perez back into the match, and she covers Dolan for the deciding pinfall. Perez might have been going for another move, but after some quick discussion in the ring, Perez quickly covers her instead.
Roxanne Perez is the winner of this year’s NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament.
On tonight’s NXT, Perez defeated Tiffany Stratton with her version of the code red called pop rox to win the tournament. With the win, Perez now receives a contract that will allow her to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship, which is currently held by Mandy Rose.
As Cora Jade came to the ring to celebrate with Perez, Rose and the rest of Toxic Attraction came out. Rose congratulated Perez but told her to celebrate now as it is all downhill from here. She told Perez that if she challenged her, she would fail. The two ended up getting into a brawl, with Indi Hartwell making the save for Jade and Perez, warding off Toxic Attraction.
Perez defeated Kiana James and Lash Legend to make it to the finals. Stratton, a replacement for an injured Nikkita Lyons, only defeated Fallon Henley in the semifinals to make it to tonight’s match.
The winner of the inaugural Women’s Breakout Tournament will be crowned on NXT tonight.
Roxanne Perez and Tiffany Stratton will meet in the Women’s Breakout Tournament finals on tonight’s NXT episode. Perez defeated Kiana James in the first round of the tournament and Lash Legend in the semifinals, while Stratton was a replacement for the injured Nikkita Lyons. Stratton replaced Lyons in the semifinals and defeated Fallon Henley.
The winner of the Breakout Tournament will receive a contract for an NXT Women’s title shot.
Tonight’s NXT is the In Your House fallout edition of the show. We’ll see if a new challenger for Bron Breakker emerges following his win against Joe Gacy in the main event of the special.
We’ll also see The Creed Brothers and Carmelo Hayes’ first appearances as champions. The Creed Brothers won the NXT Tag Team titles from Pretty Deadly at In Your House, and Hayes regained the North American Championship by defeating Cameron Grimes.
Plus, Alba Fyre vs. Tatum Paxley and Josh Briggs vs. Von Wagner are set for tonight. Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The opening video highlighted this past weekend’s In Your House PLE featuring Toxic Attraction and Bron Breakker retaining their titles while we saw new champions crowned with Carmelo Hayes and The Creed Brothers capturing gold.

-The show opened with new North American champion Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams headed to the ring. Williams praised Hayes and stated that things were back how they belonged. Hayes then ripped on the fans in attendance stating how they never were able to shoot their shot properly. Before he could continue, Hayes was interrupted by Solo Sikoa.
Sikoa entered the ring and stated he was next in line for a chance at the title. Williams grabbed the mic and stated that was a deal made with the previous champion. Grayson Waller’s music hit and he ran down Sikoa stating that he had no friends. Sikoa responded by stating that the NXT Universe were his friends before attacking Williams. Unfortunately, the numbers game was too much for Sikoa as Hayes, Williams and Waller laid a beatdown on Sikoa before heading up the ramp with confidence.
We’re potentially headed to a six-man tag team match sometime soon but who are we going to see side with Sikoa?
-A promo package aired for the upcoming Josh Briggs vs. Von Wagner match.
-Outside of the Capitol Wrestling Center, Legado Del Fantasma greeted The Don. After Tony D’Angelo exited his vehicle, he informed Santos Escobar that he needed to change out of his suit as he had a match tonight.
Josh Briggs (w/Brooks Jensen & Fallon Henley) defeated Von Wagner (w/Mr. Stone & Sofia Cromwell)
Before the bell could even ring, Wagner attacked Briggs but Josh was able to stand his ground. The referee officially rang the bell and it was back and forth brutality within the first moment of the match. Briggs managed the upper hand but it wasn’t for long as Stone could be heard jaw-jacking as Wagner turned the tables.
The action headed to the outside and after Wagner did some more damage to Briggs, he switched his focus to Jensen, pounding his injured right hand off of the ring apron. Jensen, potentially playing possum all along, slid his cast into the ring allowing Briggs to blast Wagner over the head with it. Briggs then hit the ropes and nailed Wagner with massive clothesline for the victory.
As Wagner, Stone and Cromwell collected themselves in the ring, Briggs, Jensen and Henley celebrated on the entrance ramp with Jensen smiling and removing his cast once again.
I was honestly surprised at the outcome of this match and I’m curious to see where they go next with this. I can easily see a six-person tag team match on the horizon.
-McKenzie Mitchell was backstage with Solo Sikoa being tended to by medical staff with an ice pack on his shoulder. Sikoa stated that by the end of the night, he was going to get his revenge.
-Backstage we saw Andre Chase and Chase U members present the 2022-23 scholarship to Thea Hail. Before Hail could properly accept and get her picture taken, they were interrupted by Pretty Deadly. As Elton Prince and Kit Wilson were making fun of Chase U, it didn’t last long as they reminded they were no longer tag team champions.
As the bell rang, Tony D’Angelo joined commentary. We heard from early chants for Santos as he capitalized in the beginning but we could definitely see the frustration from Escobar knowing he was now being fully controlled by D’Angelo after losing this past Saturday at In Your House.
After some more offence by Escobar, Frazer with the quick attack but he couldn’t gain momentum as Santos was simply toying with him at this point, even putting his offense on hold to the dismay of D’Angelo. Tony scolded Santos and Escobar went back on the attack including nailing Frazer on the outside with a tope suicida which brought D’Angelo to protest once more stating that nobody wanted to see that anymore.
Both men were back in the ring and Escobar was schooling Frazer locking in a surfboard and a one-legged crab. Frazer was able to escape but the main story of this match was definitely the feud between Escobar and D’Angelo.
Frazer attempted some comeback offense but it wasn’t long before Escobar nailed him with a running knee before missing the Phantom Driver. Frazer wasn’t able to capitalize as Escobar nailed a superkick sending him to thee outside. As Frazer was recovering, a crowbar was slid into the ring for Escobar. Santos refused to use it and was caught with a kick to the face by Frazer. Nathan headed to the top rope, landed a huge twisting 450 to get the upset win, disgruntling Tony D’Angelo even more.
-McKenzie Mitchell was with Xyon Quinn. Quinn stated that while he was recently defeated by Wes Lee, he’s far from done with him as next week, he’s going to leave him unconscious.
-A promo aired for NXT Great American Bash 2022 airing live on July 5th.
-Bron Breakker headed to the ring, still NXT champion after his battle with Joe Gacy this past Saturday at In Your House. Breakker gave his thoughts on his match and feud with Gacy before asking who was next. Enter Apollo Crews.
Crews headed to the ring, without an accent, to huge chants from the crowd including “Apollo” and “We Miss You”. Crews stated he missed the NXT Universe and wanted to make history. Crews then shook hands in the middle of the ring with Breakker potentially setting up a match for the NXT Championship in the near future.
A curveball thrown during baseball season and as a fan, I’m definitely curious as to where they’re headed with this.
-We saw a highlight video featuring Roxanne Perez battling Tiffany Stratton in the finals of the NXT Women’s Breakout tournament coming up next.
-A promo is aired featuring Joe Gacy and his Dyad.
Roxanne Perez defeated Tiffany Stratton in the finals of the Women’s Breakout Tournament
Back and forth action took place in the beginning before Stratton started showboating early on. Perez would have nothing off it before locking in a tilt-a-whirl head-scissors followed up by an armbar. Stratton managed to escape and locked in an wristlock for the next next several moments before Perez was able to escape.
It didn’t last long as Stratton continued to focus on the arm of Perez. On top of the submission game of Stratton, she realized what was on the line, nailing Perez in the corner with some backflip offense. Perez managed a comeback but it didn’t last long as Perez was able to avoid a top-rope moonsault.
After the miss by Stratton, Perez capitalized and nailed Tiffany with Pop Rocks to gain the victory, winning the Women’s Breakout Tournament and earning her right to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship.
-After Perez won the match, Cora Jade came down to the ring to celebrate with Roxanne before Toxic Attraction came out on the entrance ramp to putdown Perez. After a brawl ensued, Indi Hartwell hit the ring to even the odds and potentially setup a future match between all six NXT superstars.
-Backstage, Bodhi Hayward has been attacked by Pretty Deadly. Andre Chase was furious and was now on the hunt.
-McKenzie Mitchell was backstage with Wendy Choo but before she could say too much, Tiffany Stratton interrupted the interview, complaining about her loss to Perez. Choo took exception and threw her drink at Stratton.
Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) defeated Chase U (Andre Chase & Bodhi Hayward)
With Bodhi Hayward taken out backstage, Chase came out fighting but was no match for Prince and Wilson. After taking a beating, Hayward was seen crawling to the ring backed by Thea Hail. Hail took her place on the apron, potentially waiting for the tag-in but it wasn’t meant to be as they hit Chase with Spilled Milk for the victory in this pretty quick match.
-Backstage we saw Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams mixing words with The D’Angelo Family. Tony D’Angelo sent Hayes a warning with regards to his North American title.
Alba Fyre defeated Tatum Paxley
It was the early beginning and while Paxley seemed ready for a fight, she was no match for Fyre. Fyre dominated the match and consider it a squash and Fyre nailed Paxley in the end with the Swanton Bomb for the victory.
-After the match, as Alba Fyre celebrated her victory on the entrance ramp, she was attacked by Lash Legend.
-Backstage, The Creed Brothers are being celebrated by The Diamond Mine as the new NXT Tag Tag champions before being interrupted by Edris Enofe and Malik Blade. Enofe and Blade challenged for the titles and The Creed Brothers accepted. Roderick Strong took exception to the challenge being accepted the brothers stating that mistakes are being made.
-A promo is aired for Giovanni Vinci.
Solo Sikoa & Apollo Crews defeated Carmelo Hayes & Grayson Waller (w/Trick Williams)
It was a lot of ground game in the early beginning before Sikoa was beaten down by Waller. Submission attempted by Waller but no-go. Waller attempted a tag but it was missed and the fresh Crews was tagged in.
Crews was in complete control and while Waller attempted a diving comeback, he was caught by Apollo, power-bombed and given a “L” in the loss column for a competitor looking to seek gold in NXT.
Short and solid main event and it’ll be interesting to see how Apollo Crews fares this round in NXT.
The finals of the NXT Breakout Tournament will now be held next week following NXT In Your House.
During a promo on tonight’s NXT, Roxanne Perez announced that the finals between her and Tiffany Stratton would take place next week. It had originally been announced for tonight’s show, but a preview for the match was removed from WWE’s website prior to the start of the program.
In tonight’s promo, Perez talked about how all she wanted to do growing up was become a WWE Superstar. She mentioned her friendship with Cora Jade and training at Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school as well. She promised to make her dreams come true.
In a later video, her opponent Stratton mentioned how she corrected an injustice by having a Breakout Tournament and not including her, saying Nikkita Lyons, who she replaced, wouldn’t have won anyway. Stratton said next week Perez could cry on Jade’s shoulder while she signs the contract.
