Tyler Bate says he’s not injured, just waiting

It’s been a few months since we last saw Tyler Bate on Raw or SmackDown, but the former NXT United Kingdom Champion is not dealing with an injury.

Bate suffered a torn pec in 2024 but made his return on Raw this March, reuniting with Pete Dunne in their home country of the United Kingdom for a tag team loss against The New Day. Since then, Bate has only competed on Main Event aside from being a participant in the 2025 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

On Instagram today, the 28-year-old Bate posted a photo and briefly addressed his absence. “Not injured,” he wrote. “Waiting…”

Bate joined WWE when he was a teenager and has now been with the company for more than eight years. He started out as one of the top stars on the NXT UK brand before coming to the United States for NXT and eventually the main roster. Bate & Dunne are members of the WWE Raw roster and team together as New Catch Republic.

Tyler Bate returns from injury on WWE Raw

Tyler Bate is back in action after spending almost nine months on the shelf.

In their home country, New Catch Republic reunited with Bate & Pete Dunne facing off against New Day on Monday’s episode of Raw in England. Bate & Dunne had momentum on their side until Kofi Kingston interrupted their double-team offense by pulling Bate off the apron. Kingston & Xavier Woods then got the win by hitting Daybreak on Dunne.

This was Bate’s first match since July 2024, when he underwent surgery after suffering a torn pec on NXT. Bate & Dunne defeated Hank Walker & Tank Ledger in the match where Bate’s injury happened.

It was confirmed weeks ago that Bate was cleared to wrestle and awaiting his return to television. The 28 year old is a former NXT UK Champion and Heritage Cup Champion, along with holding Tag Team titles in both NXT and NXT UK. He has yet to win championship gold on the WWE main roster.

Kingston & Woods challenging The War Raiders for the World Tag Team titles looks to be the plan for WrestleMania 41. New Day have been demanding a title shot — and a confrontation between the two teams took place today after Kingston & Woods defeated Bate & Dunne.

Tyler Bate undergoes surgery for torn pec

Tyler Bate had surgery on Monday.

Michael Cole revealed during Raw that Bate will be out of action “for a bit” after suffering an injury on the July 2 episode of WWE NXT. Bate has since revealed on Instagram that he underwent surgery for a torn pec yesterday.

“Tore my left pectoral major & tendon off the bone last week at NXT.
Surgery yesterday was successful and all has been put back where it belongs.
I’ll be gone for some time while I recover, try not to miss me too much.
I’m in good spirits and looking forward to seeing you all again soon, lots of love,
b i g s t r o n g b o i”

Bate and Dunne defeated Hank Walker & Tank Ledger last week on NXT. Dunne then appeared on Raw on Monday and wrestled Bronson Reed. After the match, Reed continued to attack Dunne until Sheamus came out to make the save. However, Dunne shoved Sheamus away after as the commentary team discussed their history together in the Brawling Brutes.

Tyler Bate out of action ‘for a bit’ following WWE NXT injury

Tyler Bate is out of action.

Michael Cole on commentary during Raw said Bate would be “out of action for a bit.” He explained that Bate was injured on the July 2 episode of NXT, where New Catch Republic defeated Hank Walker & Tank Ledger.

On Raw, Pete Dunne ended up working a singles match, losing to Bronson Reed. After the match, Reed continued to assault Dunne until Sheamus came down for the save. When Sheamus attempted to hug Dunne, he shoved Sheamus away. It was pointed out on commentary that it was Sheamus that left the Brawling Brutes, leaving Dunne and Ridge Holland by themselves.

As part of this year’s WWE Draft, New Catch Republic were drafted to Raw. Aside from a fatal four way match in May, the team have rarely made appearances on the brand, instead working NXT. They had most recently lost a tag team turmoil match on NXT, becoming the last team to be eliminated by eventual winners Chase U.

Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate to compete in WWE NXT six-man tag match

Cody Rhodes isn’t the only main roster wrestler heading to tonight’s Battleground fallout episode of WWE NXT.

On Monday night, WWE uploaded a video with Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate announcing that they’ll be in action on NXT this week. It will be Dunne, Bate & Wes Lee vs. Gallus (Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey & Wolfgang). Dunne & Bate are providing backup for Lee after he was laid out by Gallus in a three-on-one backstage attack at Battleground.

“Gallus, looks like you’re up to your old tricks,” Bate said in a promo. “Now, I’ve been in Wes Lee’s position before, and Wes is my mate. And I’m not going to stand there and watch my mate get bullied.”

Dunne added: “Gallus boys on top? On top of what? Because I know it’s not British wrestling because we’ve been on top for time. And we’ve been waiting for you lads to prove it. We waited in NXT UK. We waited in NXT. We’ve been waiting on Raw and SmackDown. And you still haven’t proved it. So tomorrow lads, prove it. Gallus boys on top? Shut up.”

At Battleground, Oba Femi defeated Lee and Joe Coffey in a triple threat match to retain the NXT North American Championship. Gallus’ attack on Lee happened later in the night.

Rhodes appearing on NXT tonight was confirmed after he sent out a tweet during Battleground teasing that he would be on the episode. The updated lineup for the show is listed below:

WWE NXT (Tuesday, June 11) —

  • Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appears
  • Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate & Wes Lee vs. Gallus
  • Singapore cane match: Lexis King vs. Dante Chen
  • Shawn Spears vs. Je’Von Evans
  • Michin vs. Jaida Parker
  • Wendy Choo returns
  • Eddy Thorpe returns

WWE Main Event results: Bronson Reed vs. Tyler Bate

This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania before Monday’s episode of Raw.

Dakota Kai (w/Kairi Sane) defeated Ivy Nile (5:41)

In the time they had, this was pretty good. Some hard work and neat little things that they did together made this perfectly watchable.

This was actually Kai’s second ever Main Event appearance, having only been on the show once before back in the summer of 2021. It seems like the kind of place that she would have worked more.

Nile used her power and strength in the early moments to show off. A delayed release vertical suplex was the highlight, before Kai took control and slapped on a rest hold.

The crowd got behind Nile as she looked to work her way out and she fired up with a head scissors another suplex for two.

In the end, while Nile was trying to get the thing won, using some roll-up attempts, Sane came on the apron with the distraction and that was enough to turn the match around.

Kai used her scorpion kick followed by the Go To Kick to get the win and she and Sane made off out of there like bandits. Crowd hated which was good heat and you realise how increasingly well-liked Nile is.

Bronson Reed defeated Tyler Bate (w/Pete Dunne) (6:50)

Bate and Reed had a strong match, particularly in the closing minutes. Much like last week, Bate and Dunne could work this show every week and it would be fine by me.

Although Bate did enter with Pete Dunne, they agreed that Bate didn’t need him and so Dunne headed to the back. Seems like a stupid move when you look at the size differential with Bronson Reed, but it isn’t something you see very often on this show, so was a cool little move.

They went to the break after two minutes or so and so the opening moments was all about Bate trying to grapple with Reed to get the upper hand before he got tossed over the top rope.

After the ads and after Bate had worked his way out of the bear hug, they did a killer spot where Bate used three clotheslines to finally topple Reed and then put him in an airplane spin. I loved this and the crowd loved it too but it wasn’t enough to defeat the big guy.

Reed used a big power bomb and then dragged him into position so that he could finish him off with the Tsunami off the top rope.

I’m still not sure that they know what to do with Reed, but if nothing else, his finisher always seems pretty over.

VIDEO: Ricochet defends WWE Speed title against Tyler Bate

Ricochet’s first defense of the WWE Speed Championship was a successful one.

On Friday, a new episode of WWE Speed aired with Ricochet defending his title against Tyler Bate. The match was taped prior to Monday’s episode of Raw in Greensboro, North Carolina. A flipping cutter got Ricochet the win with 1:52 left on the clock.

Matches on WWE Speed usually have a three-minute time limit, but that’s extended to five minutes for championship matches. The show typically premieres on Wednesdays, but there have been special Friday episodes for title bouts.

Bate got this title shot by winning a four-man number one contender’s tournament on WWE Speed. He defeated Berto (Humberto Carrillo) in the first round and Apollo Crews in the second round. Ivar was originally supposed to be Bate’s second-round opponent instead of Crews, but Ivar is dealing with a legitimate injury and had to be pulled from the tournament.

WWE Speed airs on X/Twitter as part of a two-year deal between WWE and the social media company. It debuted last month and features a tournament-style format. Ricochet became the inaugural champion by winning title tournament matches against Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, and Johnny Gargano.

Tyler Bate challenging Ricochet for WWE Speed Championship

Tyler Bate is getting the first shot at Ricochet’s WWE Speed Championship.

Since Ricochet was crowned the inaugural champion, a tournament has taken place on WWE Speed to decide his first challenger. Bate earned the title shot by defeating Apollo Crews on the Speed episode that premiered today. There will be another new episode at noon Eastern time this Friday (May 24) featuring the Ricochet vs. Bate title match.

Crews wasn’t originally supposed to be Bate’s opponent for today’s match. Ivar, who defeated Crews in the first round of the four-man tournament, is out of action due to a serious injury. Because of that, he wasn’t able to compete against Bate. Crews got a second chance as Ivar’s replacement.

During the finishing sequence, Crews hit a press slam and a standing moonsault. But when Crews went for the cover, Bate reversed it into a pin of his own for the victory. Bate won with 56 seconds of the three-minute time limit remaining.

Bate defeated Berto (Humberto Carrillo) in the first round of the tournament.

In the 2024 WWE Draft, Bate and his tag team partner Pete Dunne moved to the Raw roster. Ricochet is also on Raw.

WWE Speed airs exclusively on X/Twitter as part of a two-year deal between WWE and the social media platform.

Tyler Bate advances in WWE Speed number one contender’s tournament

WWE aired another episode of Speed on Wednesday.

This week’s show featured the second opening round match in a tournament to determine who will be the first challenger for Ricochet’s Speed Championship. Ivar defeated Apollo Crews in the first opening-round match last week.

Tyler Bate picked up the win in this week’s episode, using a victory roll to pin Berto (FKA Humberto Carrillo) with just eight seconds remaining in the three-minute time limit. He now advances to the next round of the tournament to face Ivar next week. The winner of that match will move on to challenge Ricochet for the title.

Ricochet defeated Dragon Lee in the opening round, JD McDonagh in the semifinals, and Johnny Gargano in the finals of a tournament to determine an inaugural WWE Speed Champion.

Paul “Triple H” Levesque teased future women’s matches on WWE Speed earlier this month. During a Q&A on X, Levesque said of WWE Speed, “It makes for an exciting challenge for the guys. It makes for an exciting challenge for eventually what will be the women as well.”

Tag Team title match official for WWE Elimination Chamber

Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate are heading to Australia for a clash against The Judgment Day.

Damian Priest & Finn Balor will defend their Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles against Dunne & Bate at Elimination Chamber in Perth on Saturday, February 24. Dunne & Bate earned the title shot with a victory over DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) on SmackDown tonight.

WWE began a mini-tournament last week to determine Judgment Day’s Elimination Chamber challengers. Dunne & Bate and DIY both won fatal four-way matches to advance to tonight’s number one contender’s bout.

After Bate took out Ciampa with a dive to the outside, Dunne hit the Bitter End on Gargano and pinned him to get the victory.

Dunne & Bate reunited when Bate was called up to the SmackDown roster last month. Shortly after that, Dunne had his name changed from Butch back to Pete Dunne.

The updated Elimination Chamber card is listed below:

  • Elimination Chamber match to determine World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania 40 challenger (Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton vs. four wrestlers to be determined)
  • Elimination Chamber match to determine Women’s World Championship challenger for WrestleMania 40 (Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair vs. four wrestlers to be determined)
  • Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley defends against Nia Jax
  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Judgment Day (Damian Priest & Finn Balor) defend against Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate

WWE teases return of Pete Dunne

The long-rumored return of Pete Dunne looks to finally be imminent.

On Friday night’s episode of SmackDown, WWE teased that Butch will be changing his name back to Pete Dunne. A video aired on the show with Butch and Tyler Bate meeting after their recent reunion. Bate said he knows Butch is lost and trying to find his identity. Bate said he can help with that.

Bate said Butch wants to make a name for himself — and he needs to look inward and ask himself what that name is going to be:

Now you want to make a name for yourself. Remember who told you that back in Blackpool? You need to look inward and ask yourself, ‘Who was that guy?’ You need to look inward and ask yourself, ‘What is that name going to be?’ Well?

Former British Strong Style stablemates Butch and Bate reunited on the January 5 episode of SmackDown. Bate made his WWE main roster debut as Butch’s mystery partner for a tag match against Pretty Deadly. Butch & Bate defeated Pretty Deadly in the match.

In the video that aired last night, Butch claimed that his reunion with Bate was a one-time thing. Butch suggested that he and Bate focus on themselves going forward instead of teaming together. Bate responded by telling Butch that this is their chance to finally show the world what British Strong Style is all about.

Dunne was given the name Butch when he joined the main roster as a member of The Brawling Brutes in 2022. Butch said last night that The Brawling Brutes are in the past.

After his debut last week, it was confirmed that Bate has officially been called up to the SmackDown roster.

Tyler Bate added to WWE SmackDown roster

Tyler Bate’s call-up to the WWE main roster is a permanent one.

After debuting on the show, Bate has been added to the SmackDown roster page on WWE’s website. WWE also posted a video on Instagram where Bate said he’s arrived on SmackDown and is here to stay.

Bate said: “Finally, it’s been a long time coming, but the Big Strong Boi has finally arrived on SmackDown — and I am here to stay.”

Bate made his WWE main roster debut as Butch’s mystery partner on Friday night’s SmackDown. The former British Strong Style stablemates reunited for a victory over Pretty Deadly. The finish of the match was Bate and Butch giving Kit Wilson a double Tyler Driver ’97. Bate pinned Wilson to get the win.

The debut comes seven years after Bate first arrived in WWE. He was crowned the inaugural NXT United Kingdom Champion in 2017.

Bate and Butch (formerly known as Pete Dunne) have been linked together throughout their careers as both stablemates and opponents.

Now 26 years old, Bate had been competing in NXT since NXT UK closed its doors in 2022. Dave Meltzer first reported last month that there had been talk of Bate being called up to the main roster.

Tyler Bate makes WWE SmackDown debut as Butch’s mystery partner

Tyler Bate made his SmackDown debut on Friday night, reuniting with Butch for a tag team match.

The story going into SmackDown’s New Year’s Revolution episode was that Butch (the former Pete Dunne) needed to find a mystery partner for his match against Pretty Deadly. It led to British Strong Style reuniting as Butch & Bate defeated Elton Prince & Kit Wilson.

The finish of the match was Bate and Butch giving Wilson a double Tyler Driver ’97. Bate pinned Wilson to get the victory.

Bate & Butch have been linked together throughout their careers as both stablemates and opponents. In 2017, Bate defeated Butch to become the inaugural NXT United Kingdom Champion. Butch won the title from Bate later that year in a classic match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

Bate moved to the NXT roster after NXT UK closed its doors in 2022. Dave Meltzer reported last month that there had “at least been talk” of the 26-year-old Bate being called up to the WWE main roster.

At NXT Deadline in December, Bate was part of the men’s Iron Survivor Challenge match that was won by Trick Williams.

Dragon Lee retained the North American Championship against Bate on the December 12 episode of NXT.

Tyler Bate, Fallon Henley qualify for WWE NXT Iron Survivor Challenge

The final two participants for the Iron Survivor Challenge have been decided.

Fallon Henley and Tyler Bate have advanced to Saturday’s men’s and women’s Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline after winning a last chance fatal four-way match on Tuesday’s show. Henley won after Roxanne Perez and Kiana James fell into the announcer’s table. A distracted Thea Hail was then laid out by a shining wizard by Henley for the win.

Tyler Bate also advanced to the Iron Survivor Challenge, pinning Joe Coffey in a match that also had Eddy Thorpe and Carmelo Hayes.

Later in the show, the five women’s Iron Survivor Challenge participants met in a summit that broke out in a brawl after Henley attacked Tiffany Stratton. The brawl spilled out into a match between Axiom and Nathan Frazer, causing the referee to throw out the match. Blair Davenport was walking to the back when she was laid out by Nikkita Lyons, who made her television return on last week’s show.

The show ended with the five men’s participants brawling around ringside, with Bate ending up being the last person standing to end the show.

Here is the updated card for NXT Deadline:

  • NXT Championship: Ilja Dragunov defends against Baron Corbin
  • NXT North American Championship: Dominik Mysterio defends against Dragon Lee
  • Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Dijak vs. Trick Williams vs. Josh Briggs vs. Bron Breakker vs. Tyler Bate
  • Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Tiffany Stratton vs. Lash Legend vs. Blair Davenport vs. Kelani Jordan vs. Fallon Henley
  • Steel Cage: Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James
  • Carmelo Hayes vs. Lexis King
  • Kickoff match: Axiom vs. Nathan Fraszer

Brawling Brutes & Tyler Bate vs. Gallus Pub Rules match added to WWE NXT

A Pub Rules match has been added to Tuesday’s NXT lineup.

In a digital exclusive that aired on social media Friday, The Brawling Brutes were seen backstage at SmackDown. They challenged Gallus to a Pub Rules match, which Ridge Holland explained was an anything goes six-man tag match that would involve Tyler Bate teaming with Butch and Ridge Holland. Butch said they were coming to NXT to put on a banger.

At NXT No Mercy last weekend, Butch lost his NXT Heritage Cup match to Noam Dar after Gallus interfered. After they went to attack Tyler Bate on Tuesday’s show, both Butch and Ridge Holland came out for the save.

A previous Pub Rules match took place last fall in NXT, which saw Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen defeat Gallus.

Here is the updated card for this coming Tuesday’s NXT, which will go head-to-head with a Tuesday edition of AEW Dynamite called Title Tuesday:

  • Carmelo Hayes (with John Cena) vs. Bron Breakker (with Paul Heyman)
  • Roxanne Perez vs. Asuka
  • Pub Rules: Brawling Brutes & Tyler Bate vs. Gallus
  • Cody Rhodes to make a major announcement
