NWA title defense set for ROH TV tapings

An NWA title match has been added to this month’s Ring of Honor television tapings.

The NWA has announced that PJ Black will challenge for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at ROH’s TV tapings at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, January 12. Nick Aldis is the NWA Champion and will defend his title against James Storm at the NWA’s pop-up event in Clarksville, Tennessee tomorrow (Saturday, January 5).

Black was formerly known as Justin Gabriel in WWE.

It was also announced earlier this week that the NWA is partnering with ROH for the return of the Crockett Cup, which is taking place in Concord, North Carolina on Saturday, April 27. ROH will be holding a 12-team Tag Wars tournament at their Road to G1 Supercard shows in Texas later this month, with the winning team getting a spot in the Crockett Cup and an ROH Tag Team title shot at ROH’s 17th Anniversary pay-per-view in March.

Bandido to make ROH debut at January TV tapings

Bandido will be making his Ring of Honor debut at the promotion’s first television tapings of 2019.

ROH announced today that Bandido will debut at their TV tapings at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, January 12. Bandido has also been announced for Honor Reigns Supreme in Concord, North Carolina on Sunday, January 13. Honor Reigns Supreme is airing live on HonorClub.

It was confirmed this Sunday that Bandido had signed a contract with ROH. PCO, Brody King, and Mark Haskins have signed with ROH as well, with PCO and King making their debuts at ROH’s TV tapings in Philadelphia this past weekend. ROH has announced that January’s TV tapings in Atlanta and Honor Reigns Supreme will be the first two dates Haskins is working for them after signing with the promotion.

ROH also uploaded the main event of All In to their YouTube account, which was a six-man tag match where The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi faced Bandido, Rey Mysterio & Fenix. The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and Hangman Page departed ROH last weekend.

PCO and Brody King debut at ROH TV tapings

PCO and Brody King made their debut in ROH tonight, forming a stable with Marty Scurll.

Scurll was in the ring during tonight’s tapings in Philadelphia when The Kingdom came down to confront him. Taven mocked him. saying that he had no backup. It was then that Villian Enterprises, consisting of PCO and Brody King, came out to assist.

It seemed like the new trio were to take on The Kingdom later on in the tapings for the six man titles. However, the Kingdom came out and said that the group did not deserve a title shot. They instead faced Cheeseburger, Eli Isom and Ryan Nova, which they took care of easily.

Both PCO and King were reported to be coming here in the last couple of weeks. PCO has had several stunts in WWE, WCW and Impact but has experienced a career resurgence as of late, with a high profile match against WALTER during WrestleMania weekend putting him back on the indy scene map. He also competed in this year’s PWG Battle of Los Angeles.

Brody King has also made waves in the last year, wrestling in PWG, DEFY and MLW.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Tracy Williams set for ROH TV tapings

In addition to facing Jonathan Gresham at Final Battle, Zack Sabre Jr. will be in action at Ring of Honor’s December television tapings.

Sabre vs. Tracy Williams is the first match to be announced for ROH’s post-Final Battle TV tapings at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 15. This year’s Final Battle pay-per-view will be taking place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Friday, December 14.

Sabre will be making his ROH debut against Gresham at Final Battle. Williams wrestled for ROH for the first time earlier this month, losing to Gresham in a Survival of the Fittest finals qualifying match at Survival of the Fittest 2018.

While they were in EVOLVE, Sabre and Williams wrestled each other at EVOLVE 95 in 2017 and EVOLVE 70 in 2016.

As was announced at Survival of the Fittest, CMLL’s Rush will be making his ROH debut at the December 15 tapings in Philadelphia.

Nick Aldis set for this weekend’s ROH TV tapings

On the same night as Cody Rhodes makes his first title defense, former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis will also be in action.

Ring of Honor has announced that Aldis will be wrestling at their post-Death Before Dishonor television tapings at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday. Aldis is set to face Christopher Daniels.

Willie Mack will challenge for Cody’s NWA title at Saturday’s tapings. The match comes in advance of Aldis getting his rematch for Cody’s title in the main event of the NWA’s 70th Anniversary Show in Nashville, Tennessee on October 21.

Death Before Dishonor is taking place at the Orleans Arena tomorrow night.

Here’s the updated lineup for Saturday’s tapings:

  • NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Cody defending against Willie Mack
  • Coast 2 Coast (LSG & Shaheem Ali) challenging for the ROH Tag Team titles
  • Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham vs. Jushin Thunder Liger & KUSHIDA
  • The Young Bucks vs. EVIL & SANADA vs. Trent Barreta & Chuck Taylor vs. either The Briscoes or Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian (whichever team loses the Tag Team title match at Death Before Dishonor)
  • Marty Scurll vs. Chris Sabin (will be for the ROH Television Championship if Sabin defeats Punishment Martinez at Death Before Dishonor)
  • Kenny King vs. Chase Owens
  • Nick Aldis vs. Christopher Daniels

SANADA added to next month’s ROH TV tapings

Another member of the NJPW roster has been added to ROH’s post-Death Before Dishonor television tapings in Las Vegas.

ROH has announced that SANADA will be making his return to the promotion at their tapings at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on September 29th. EVIL (SANADA’s Los Ingobernables de Japon stablemate) and KUSHIDA are also set for the tapings.

SANADA, EVIL, and KUSHIDA haven’t been announced for the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view.

SANADA last wrestled for ROH in June. Los Ingobernables de Japon (SANADA, EVIL & BUSHI) lost a Six-Man Tag Team title match against The Kingdom at Best in the World before defeating SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) and The Young Bucks & Hangman Page in a three-way match at a set of tapings.

Death Before Dishonor is taking place in Las Vegas on Friday, September 28th, the post-PPV tapings are on the 29th, and NJPW’s Fighting Spirit Unleashed show is being held in Long Beach, California on the 30th.

Titles change hands at last night’s ROH TV tapings

The Briscoes & Bully Ray followed up their win at Ring of Honor’s 15th Anniversary pay-per-view with a trios title win over The Kingdom last night, which consisted of Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia & Silas Young, replacing the injured TK O’Ryan.

The title win took place at TV tapings held at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas.

O’Ryan suffered two broken bones in his lower leg in doing an Asai moonsault on the PPV and looks to be requiring surgery.

Bully Ray & The Briscoes debuted as a trio beating War Machine & Davey Boy Smith Jr. on Friday night. That match was also Bully Ray’s ROH in-ring debut after he showed up at the promotion’s Manhattan Mayhem show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York the week prior, where he announced that he would be with ROH going forward.

As was noted in Thursday’s daily update, Bully Ray has said that his contract with ROH is for a year or longer.
