Women’s World title match set for AEW Revolution

In her first AEW pay-per-view match, Deonna Purrazzo has a chance to win gold.

It was confirmed today that Purrazzo will challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Revolution on Sunday, March 3. The PPV is being held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Tony Khan announced:

Sunday, 3/3 #AEWRevolution Greensboro, NC

AEW Women’s World Title Timeless Toni Storm vs @DeonnaPurrazzo

The Virtuosa came to AEW chasing the World Title, calling out the real Toni Storm, not ‘the delusional sham.’ It’s official: they’ll fight 1-on-1 for the Title at Revolution!

Purrazzo debuted for AEW in her home state of New Jersey on the January 3 episode of Dynamite. That night, Purrazzo declared that she was looking for Storm. Purrazzo has since won matches against Red Velvet, Anna Jay, and Taya Valkyrie.

In a video that aired on Dynamite this week, Purrazzo discussed her history with Storm and the matching tattoos they have.

Before joining AEW, Purrazzo was a three-time Knockouts Champion for Impact Wrestling.

The updated Revolution card is listed below:

  • Sting’s retirement match: Sting & Darby Allin vs. The Young Bucks
  • AEW World Champion Samoa Joe defends against either Swerve Strickland or Hangman Page (Strickland and Page are facing each other in a number one contender’s match on the February 7 Dynamite episode)
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Deonna Purrazzo
  • AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy defends against Roderick Strong

Sting chose The Young Bucks as his AEW retirement match opponents

In the new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explained how The Young Bucks were chosen for Sting’s final match.

This week’s episode of Dynamite ended with it being revealed that The Young Bucks will be part of Sting’s retirement match. It was set up that Sting & Darby Allin will be facing Matt & Nick Jackson at AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view this March.

The Young Bucks made their return to AEW television for Wednesday’s angle. Meltzer notes that The Young Bucks were originally supposed to have more time off, but Sting asked them to be his retirement match opponents. Part of the reason for that choice is because Sting loved working with The Young Bucks in the trios match they had at Forbidden Door 2022.

Tony Khan was going to give Sting the option to pick whoever he wanted to face, and that would include pretty much anyone on the AEW roster or most other rosters besides WWE since Khan would have given him any match he wanted that involved talent he could have access to. When he was asked who he wanted to face, they were his choice, as he loved doing the Forbidden Door 2022 match in Chicago (Sting & Allin & Shingo Takagi vs. Bucks & El Phantasmo).

The Young Bucks were originally going to take more time off before returning but Sting asked them and they weren’t about to turn that down.

The Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina is hosting Revolution on Sunday, March 3. Sting’s retirement match is the main focus of the PPV.

Jim Ross said on his podcast this week that he wants to call Sting’s retirement match with Tony Schiavone.

Update on MJF fan incident from AEW Revolution

Tony Khan says MJF did not “act like a champion” when he tossed a beverage on a young fan sitting ringside at AEW Revolution.

During his Iron Man mach against Bryan Danielson, MJF grabbed a cup from a woman in the front row and splashed its contents on the woman’s young son who was sitting next to her.

The young man and his mother were real fans and not planted by AEW. The beverage was believed to be tequila and when MJF tossed the drink on the child, some got into his eyes. Amanda Huber and others came out and the young fan was taken backstage, given merchandise, and both him and his mother will be attending the show in Sacramento on Wednesday.

Tony Khan addressed the incident at the post-event media scrum.

Khan said:

We had a conversation before we came up here, we had a serious conversation and I mean that and it’s not to be taken lightly. The young man, Titus, was a real pro about it and we’ll see Titus again here in AEW. I believe Titus is actually coming to Sacramento but I was just with him and he was a real champ about it.

The champion didn’t act like a champion there but I think Titus was great.

The situation was also addressed by our own Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer on Monday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio

Alvarez said:

It was not a plant and we heard from multiple sources that it also was not water, which I’m sure Max didn’t know. Apparently, it was tequila and so some of the tequila got in the kids eye and the kid was not happy about that.

What I was told was, in the area, the kid got tequila in his eye and he was not happy so fans started giving the kid their merch, like, ‘here’s my shirt, you want my poster?’

And then Amanda Huber comes out and she’s making the kid feel better and then they bring the kid backstage and they are giving him all this signed merch. Then the mom and kid get tickets to Sacramento. So, this kid ended up having the best day of his life.

Meltzer then addressed Khan’s reaction to the incident.

Tony never rips on his talent, ever, and he did there. He just said, ‘yeah he made a mistake and it was serious’ and it could have been. I mean, it was very, very bad judgment. Max had an incredible, incredible match but that was something he should not have done.

MJF only responded that “the kid looked thirsty” when asked about the incident.

FRIDAY NEWS UPDATE

Garrett Gonzalez and I will be doing our usual weekly show tomorrow after the UFC event. There is a ton to talk about. We will also be doing the shows this week on Monday and Wednesday nights as well as either Friday or Saturday. Bryan and I will be back together next weekend.

The new issue goes into depth on the AEW ratings for Wednesday. But a few notes on the show. The show did hit 500,000 in 18-49 and 1.15 million viewers for the angle with MjF, FTR, Sting, Darby Allin and C.M. Punk. Regarding Adam Page vs. Bryan Danielson, the match grew so anyone who thought going 60 minutes was a turnoff to a modern fan or short attention span of viewers that you can’t do that was proven wrong with an exclamation point. The strongest growth was actually women 18-34 but men 18-34 had strong growth as well, as did over 50.  The show started at 825,000 viewers and 367,000 in 18-49, which is very low in 18-49. Once the match got started they were at 974,000 viewers and 411,000 in 18-49 and stayed steady for most of the way. It first topped 1 million viewers at the 24:00 mark of the match, It would hit 1 million and then fall during commercial breaks. It was over 1 million from the 42-47 minute mark until break and was back over 1 million at the 52 minute mark. It hit 1.1 million at the 53:00 mark and the finish was at 1,206,000 viewers and 460,000 in 18-49. The 18-49 peak during the match was actually at the 55:00 mark at 476,000 and the only time over 500,000 was for the last few minutes of the show. Obviously the 18-49 number for the episode was a disappointment and the new issue goes into why, but the idea of going 60:00 being bad for the rating would be a conclusion the facts contradict.

A few market notes for Wednesday’s show as compared to the prior week:

  • Chicago was down 20% from the prior week in both homes and 18-49
  • Philadelphia was the same in 18-49 but up 25% in homes
  • Dallas was up 50% in 18-49 and 25% in homes. Keep in mind the show was from Dallas so a significant increase should have been expected
  • Atlanta was the same in 18-49 and up 8% in homes
  • Houston was up 25% in 18-49 and 33% in homes
  • DC was up 50% in 18-49 and 80% in homes

Those are the only individual markets we have reporting at this point.

Smackdown tonight on FOX has only announced Cesaro vs. Ridge Holland as far as a match goes. They are teasing a big angle with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar and all the advertising is about Reigns returning, like after being gone just one show. They are also taping the 12/24 edition of Smackdown, the final new episode of the year, from 9-11 p.m. local time. We’re looking for reports from the show tonight to [email protected]. They have a strong advance but are well shy of capacity.

Rampage tonight will include the announcement of the rules of the two different Owen Hart Cups. There will be both a men and women’s tournament and the rules will be announced tonight. The matches are Young Bucks & Adam Cole & Bobby Fish vs. Trent Barreta & Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy & Rocky  Romero, Tay Conti vs. Penelope Ford in a submission match and The Acclaimed & 2.0 & Daniel Garcia vs. Eddie Kingston & Lucha Brothers & Santana & Ortiz. There is also a segment with Dan Lambert and Cody Rhodes.

AEW Revolution tickets went on sale today for the show in Orlando. They are in a building that would sell out for wrestling at 6,500. The last word we had was there were just under 800 tickets left, so it was not a one hour sellout but given the show isn’t until 3/6 it is going to sell out.

The final UFC show of the year is tomorrow from the APEX in Las Vegas. The show airs from 4-10 p.m. on ESPN+:

  • Matt Sayles (155.5) vs. Jordan Leavitt (155.5)
  • Don’tale Mayes (256.5) vs. Josh Parisian (262)
  • Raquel Pennington (145) vs. Macy Chiasson (148.5)
  • Charles Jourdain (145.5) vs. Andre Ewell (145)
  • Sijara Eubanks (127.5) vs. Melissa Gatto (125)
  • Justin Tafa (267) vs. Harry Hunsucker (238.5)
  • Raoni Barcelos (135.5) vs,. Victor Henry (136)
  • Dustin Stoltzfus (185.5) vs. Gerald Meerschaert (185.5)
  • Cub Swanson (145.5) vs. Darren Elkins (145.5)
  • Diego Ferreira (156) vs. Mateusz Gamrot (155.5)
  • Raphael Assuncao (136) vs. Ricky Simon (135.5)
  • Amanda Lemos (115) vs. Angela Hill (115.5)
  • Stephen Thompson (170.5) vs. Belal Muhammad (170.5)
  • Derrick Lewis (265) vs. Chris Daukaus (235.5)

Chiasson missed weight notable because her fight was originally to be at 135 but both fighters asked for it to be moved to 145 so they wouldn’t have to kill themselves cutting and she still missed. Eubanks and Tafa also missed weight and were fined. Tafa becomes the first heavyweight in UFC history to miss weight

Former UFC strawweight title contender Claudia Gadelha told the company this week that she was retiring. She hasn’t said anything public about it.

With the NFL moving some games this week due to COVID issues, NXT has very difficult competition. Raw will only be going against the Vikings vs. Bears games although the NFL Network will have a Raiders vs. Browns game starting at 5 p.m. Eastern. NXT goes against both Washington vs. Philadelphia and Seattle vs. Los Angeles Rams.

More on the story of wrestler Devon Nicholson as Blood Hunter stabbing referee Lando Deltoro in the forehead with a metal spike over and over this past Saturday night, causing him to lose three pints of blood and going into hypovolemic shock. (thanks to Mike Kuzmuk)

To say stuff like this should never be tolerated in pro wrestling is an understatement. Deltoro needed seven stapes and underwent emergency surgery to repair a severed artery in his forehead.  It got worse with him suffering a blood infection a few days later. Jerry Bostic, the promoter of the World Class wrestling show in Irving, TX, said he would never use Nicholson again.

Joe Koff talks about ROH‘s future with Kevin Eck. Koff is insistent that ROH will be returning in the spring.

On The Buy In pre-show, Riho and Thunder Rosa will team against Britt Baker and a mystery partner.

Our live coverage begins with the pre-show at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Britt Baker came out for a promo to begin The Buy In. She said that Reba had been brutally attacked by Nyla Rose and was unable to compete. She said that Tony Khan didn’t accept her doctor’s note for Reba, so she got one from the Jaguars team doctor instead.

She said that Tony Khan then finally agreed that she needed a replacement partner. Rebel came out on crutches. Baker then introduced her mystery partner, Maki Itoh.

Itoh gave a musical performance as she entered. The crowd loved this.

Britt Baker & Maki Itoh (w/Rebel) defeated Thunder Rosa & Riho

This was really good. They got a ton of time. Things got clunky at the finish when Rebel had to get involved, but everyone was super over and the crowd was hot.

Baker and Riho began with a back and forth exchange. This was solid. Baker hit a kick and a forearm strike. Riho hit two dropkicks and a hurricanrana. Both tagged out.

Rosa and Itoh traded holds, then shoulder tackle attempts. They traded strikes. Itoh did some of her trademark spots. Rosa dropped her face-first on the top turnbuckle and tagged out.

Riho hit a 619. Rosa tagged back in for a chinlock. Riho jumped in for a shitgun dropkick while Itoh was still in the hold. Riho got a tag. Baker tripped her from the floor to give Itoh an opening. Itoh missed a kokeshi and tagged out.

Baker began to work over Riho. Itoh got another tag as the match became a more traditional babyface/heel structure match, with Riho selling as the babyface in peril.

Rosa got a hot tag and hit a senton for a two count. Itoh made a blind tag. Baker hit a a slingblade on her way out. Itoh hit a kokeshi for a near fall on Rosa. Rosa came back with a stunner.

Everyone jumped in to hit a move as they worked to the finish. Itoh hit a swing DDT to Rosa. Itoh missed a diving kokeshi off the top rope. Riho tagged and tried a shining wizard to Itoh, but Itoh turned it into a single-leg crab. That was a cool spot.

Baker hit an air raid crash for a two count on Riho as Rosa saved. Rosa tagged in and traded cradles with Baker for a good series of near falls. Rebel jumped on the apron and accidentally hit Baker. Rosa hit a DVD on Baker for a two count as Itoh saved. Riho hit a dive to Itoh.

With the ref’s back turned, Rebel hit Rosa with a crutch. Baker then covered for the pin.

Jim Ross entered to close The Buy In. The main card is next.

AEW World Tag Team Championship match: The Young Bucks defeated Chris Jericho & MJF (w/Wardlow) to retain the titles

An excellent opener. This was different in that the Bucks did more brawling than they typically would, but their opponents and the story of the match called for it.

The Bucks came out firing off punches, really selling this as a blood feud after Jericho and MJF attacked their dad. They brawled to the outside. The Bucks continued the early onslaught in the ring. Nick hit a 450.

Wardlow tripped Matt from the floor to turn the match in Jericho and MJF’s favor. Matt was cut off for a bit. Nick got a hot tag and ran wild with his trademark spots. They did a cool spot where Nick supposedly mis-timed a facebuster into a Liontamer from Jericho.

Matt got a tag and the idea was that his temper was getting the best of him. MJF and Jericho worked Matt over. Jericho hit an interfering Nick with a codebreaker. While MJF took the ref, Jericho hit Matt with a baseball bat. MJF hit the Heat Seeker, but Matt kicked out.

Nick got a hot tag. The Bucks hit stereo crossbody dives, one to the floor and one in the ring. The Bucks hit the BTE Trigger to Jericho. MJF saved Jericho from the ensuing pinfall.

Matt and Nick sent MJF back and forth with seemingly a few dozen superkicks. They then hit Jericho with the Meltzer Driver. Matt pinned Jericho to retain the titles.

The broadcast team of JR, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone previewed the rest of the card. JR apologized for his voice. He sounds very sick.

**********

Rey Fenix & PAC won a Tag Team Casino Royale

There were 15 teams. 2 began, the other 13 entered at 90 second intervals and they didn’t fudge the times as far as I can tell, as there was a countdown clock on the video wall the entire time.

The particpants were PAC & Rey Fenix, Bear Country, Varsity Blonds, Preston Vance & Alan Angels, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson, Peter Avalon & Cezar Bononi, Matt Sydal & Mike Sydal, Santana & Ortiz, John Silver & Alex Reynolds, The Butcher & The Blade, Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels, Private Party, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn, Natural Nightmares, Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy.

Bear Country were made to look strong. There were some clunky eliminations, including some during entrances.

The final four were Silver, Fenix, PAC and Jungle Boy. It got really good here. Silver was tossed, then PAC.

Jungle Boy and Fenix tore the house down. Fenix hit a crazy tope suicida through the ropes and into the front row of the audience. Jungle Boy hit a poison rana.

Fenix won with a thrust kick and a clothesline over the top. Fenix is the most outstanding wrestler and the best flying wrestler in the world.

This was a mixed bag. The final few minutes were very good, but I would not have put this on PPV. This would have been better suited for a pre-show.

**********

Dasha interviewed Paul Wight. He gave a clue as to the identity of the mystery signing, saying no one will outwork them.

Paul Walter Houser, DDP and Al Snow from OVW were shown in the audience. They hinted at an OVW-AEW agreement.

We got a lengthy video package for the Women’s title match, giving some backstory to Ryo Mizunami and her retirement and return to wrestling.

AEW Women’s World Championship match: Hikaru Shida defeated Ryo Mizunami to retain the title

This probably went one or two near falls too long, but the crowd was with them up to that point and the match was very good. Mizunami has a unique charisma and she can work. Shida was excellent as always.

They opened with some crowd work and a niceback and forth strikinq sequence.

Shida hit an inverted bastard driver and a superplex for a near fall.

Shida hit the Tamashii, but Mizunami kicked out. They traded strikes. Mizunami got the best of the exchange.

Mizunami hit an uranage and a spear. She followed with a top rope legdrop for a near fall. They traded strikes and lariats. Shida hit a gamengiri. Mizunami hit a lariat.

Shida hit a falcon arrow, two more Tamashii knee strikes and another falcon arrow, but only got a two count. Mizunami hit a lariat. Shida hit another Tamashii, then used an eye poke for a near fall.

Shida hit another Tamashii. Mizunami reversed the ensuing pinfall attempt into a crucifix for a two count. Mizunami tried a DDT, but Shida turned it into a uranage. Shida hit yet another Tamashii.

Shida hit a corkscrew Tamashii and got the pin.

**********

Nyla Rose and Vickie Guerrero ran in after the match and went after Shida and Mizunami. Shida tried to save for Mizunami, but Baker, Rebel and Itoh ran in. Rebel hit Shida with a crutch.

Thunder Rosa ran in and cleared the ring.

AEW Double or Nothing was announced for Sunday, May 30 in Jacksonville.

Alex Marvez was with Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy backstage for an interview. Miro, Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford entered. Sabian and Miro attacked Cassidy and Taylor. Miro demanded that his music be played.

Miro dragged Taylor to the ring for their match. Taylor was bleeding.

Miro & Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford) defeated Orange Cassidy & Chuck Taylor

This was more of an angle than a match and I’m not sure why this was on PPV either.

Sabian and Miro worked on Taylor. Cassidy was still backstage selling the beating.

Orange limped in while selling his back. He managed an Orange Punch to Miro on the ramp.Orange and Taylor hit the Best Friends version of the Strong Zero for a two count on Sabian as Miro made the save.

Penelope took the ref. Miro hit a low blow to Orange. Orange hit the stundog millionaire and another Orange Punch. Penelope jumped on the apron for a distraction. Miro bumped Orange into Ford by mistake.

Taylor and Miro got tags. Miro hit a pump kick and used Game Over for the submission.

**********

Marvez was with Jericho, MJF, Santana and Ortiz backstage. Jericho announced the Inner Circle war council for Wednesday’s Dynamite. He promised changes in the group.

MJF agreed that they need a change.

Hangman Page defeated Matt Hardy in a Big Money match

They went a lot longer than I would have recommended, but the right guy won and you got the happy ending with the Dark Order and Hangman.

Hardy tried some strikes, but Page gained the advantage with punches in the corner. They brawled to the outside. Hardy posted Page’s right hand. He then bit his fingers. Hardy trapped Page’s hand between the ring steps and the ramp and kicked the steps.

Hardy continued working on the right hand. Private Party ran in to provide a distraction for Hardy. Page came back with clotheslines. He went for a Buckshot Lariat, but Hardy turned it into a side effect for a great near fall.

Dark Order ran out to save Page as Private Party tried to interfere again. Page hit the Buckshot Lariat for the pin.

Dark Order celebrated with Page and some beers.

Scorpio Sky defeated Cody Rhodes, Lance Archer (w/Jake Roberts), Penta El Zero Miedo, Max Caster and Ethan Page to win the Face of the Revolution ladder match for a TNT title match on this week’s Dynamite

Ethan Page was the mystery man.

Cody and Penta took absolute punishment in this match. This was a car crash that really lifted the show after the last hour or so.

The big spots early were a Penta slinglbade on Archer, a Page powerbomb on Sky on a ladder with Archer sandwiched in the ladder and Penta giving Cody a destroyer on a ladder bridge.

They did an injury angle where Cody was helped to the back after the destroyer, but he came back later on.

Other big spots included a Cross Rhodes from Cody, a frog splash off the ladder by Sky, an elbow drop off a ladder by Caster, a powerbomb off the ladder by Page to Archer.

After Page powerbombed Archer, Jake Roberts jumped in and hit a short-arm clothesline to Page. Penta hit a clothesline to Jake. Cody hit a top rope cutter to Penta on a ladder. Penta hit Cody with a chair as he climbed the ladder.

Sky hit Penta with a chair. Cody jumped back up and climbed the ladder with Sky. Sky punched Cody off the ladder, then grabbed the brass ring.

Christian Cage signed an AEW contract

The announcers threw it to ring announcer Justin Roberts. Roberts introduced the wrestler here to sign a contract.

A countdown played on the video wall, then Christian Cage appeared.

Christian signed a contract in the center of the ring. He opened his jacket to reveal an “Out. Work. Everyone.” shirt, so that will be his catchphrase.

Sting & Darby Allin defeated Brian Cage & Ricky Starks in a street fight

This was a cinematic match. It was creative and a good usage of Sting. Allin did some spectacular stunts.

Cage and Starks drove to the warehouse for the match in a Fast and the Furious car. Sting was driving an old pickup truck and Allin was riding on the tailgate.

The set for the match was the warehouse used for the Sting and Darby vignettes in the build. The ring was surrounded by people in robes and Sting masks.

All four began in the ring. Allin did a cool wall-walking spot with Cage. Allin and Cage paired off on the outside while Sting and Starks were in the ring. Sting hit a couple of Stinger splashes.

Sting and Starks left the ring and brawled around the set. Sting threw his bat at Starks. Starks dared Sting to get rid of the bat, so Sting tossed it away. Sting walked off to find Cage and Allin.

Cage and Allin were fighting in a stairwell. Cage lifted Allin in a vertical suplex position and carried him up a flight of stairs. Cage dropped Allin on a trash can. Sting saved. Allin hit a shotgun dropkick into a ladder.

Starks speared Allin into a wall. Sting used a fire extinguisher on Cage and Allin hit a suplex to Cage. Starks took out Sting with a 2 x 4. Starks missed a spear into a column. Allin hit a Coffin Drop off the column.

A masked man ran in and slammed Allin into the column. The masked man was Powerhouse Hobbs. Hook ran in as well. Cage shoved Sting to the ground, then Team Taz went 3-on-1 against Allin.

Cage and Hobbs tossed Allin through a pane of glass. Team Taz then stalked Sting. Cage hit Sting with a shovel. Allin threw Sting a bat. Sting made a comeback with his bat. He broke the bat over Cage’s back. Sting then hit Cage with the shovel.

Allin hit Cage with an elbow drop from about two stories up through a crash pad. Sting and Starks went back to the ring. Sting missed a splash. Starks hit a spear for a two count. Starks hit a low blow. Sting reversed a powerbomb attempt into a sunset flip for a near fall.

Sting followed up with a Scorpion Death Drop for the pin on Starks.

AEW World Championship exploding barbed wire deathmatch: Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to retain the title

Moxley took a swig from a flask before the match. He entered wearing an Onita tribute jacket.

We got some tentative brawling as they trid to avoid the ropes. Before any explosions, they brawled to the ramp. A trash can full of weapons was introduced to the match. Omega threw powder into Moxley’s eyes to set up the first explosion.

Omega whipped Moxley into the ropes for the first explosion. Omega got whipped into the ropes for an explosion, then Moxley hit a shotgun dropkick on Omega for a second explosion. Both went through barbed wire boards. Moxley was bleeding from the forehead.

Omega mixed in some wrestling with a moonsault, a kotaro krusher on a trash can and a One-Winged Angel attempt. Moxley popped up after two snap dragon suplexes and hit a side slam on a chair. Moxley wrapped barbed wire around his arm to try a bulldog choke with the barbed wire.

They fought to the apron. Moxley hit a Paradigm Shift off the apron through an exploding barbed wire board on the floor. Omega was bleeding now. An ominous countdown sound began playing. Moxley fired up and went for two quick near falls.

Omega hit a low blow, then stacked Moxley up with a powerbomb for a two count.

Omega hit the One-Winged Angel. Moxley kicked the ropes at two and caused an explosion to break up the pinfall.

Moxley grabbed a barbed wire bat. Gallows and Anderson ran in. Both took shots with the bat from Moxley. Before their punishment, they handed Omega an exploding barbed wire bat. Omega hit Moxley with the exploding bat for a two count.

Omega hit a One-Winged Angel on a chair. Moxley couldn’t make the ropes this time and Omega scored the pin.

**********

Gallows and Anderson handcuffed Moxley after the match. Omega continued to beat on Moxley with a a barbed wire bat.

The one minute countdown clock began. Omega and the Good Brothers ran for the hills. Eddie Kingston ran to the stage with Butcher and Blade trying to hold him back.

Kingston shoved them aside and climbed in the ring. He didn’t have time to drag Mox out, so he laid on top of him as the final explosions went off.

Referees, medical personnel and agents tended to Moxley and Kingston as the show closed.

The explosions were good throughout the match. The grand finale explosion was weak and Moxley and Kingston looked silly selling like they were dead from sparklers. Up to that point, this was a violent spectacle.

AEW Tag Team title match set for Revolution

MJF and Chris Jericho won tonight’s tag team battle royal, setting them up for an AEW Tag Team title match at Revolution.

Chris Jericho was the last man standing in the battle royal, eliminating Darius Martin of Top Flight to win. The last three men in the ring were Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Martin. Jericho inadvertently eliminated Guevara, who was on the apron, after Jericho tried to eliminate Martin.

Jericho and MJF will face The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team titles at Revolution, which takes place on March 7. The champions were also in the battle royal. They were eliminated when The Good Brothers, who were at ringside, helped Nick Jackson eliminate Isiah Cassidy of Private Party. Jackson argued with The Good Brothers, with the distraction leading him to be eliminated by MJF.

The only other match announced for the Revolution thus far is a street fight tag team match, with Sting and Darby Allin teaming up to take on Ricky Starks and Brian Cage of Team Taz.

A new match featuring Orange Cassidy has been added to Revolution this Saturday.

It was confirmed on tonight’s episode of Dynamite that Cassidy will face PAC in a singles match.

PAC lost his iron man match against Kenny Omega tonight after the match went into sudden overtime. Following the match, PAC was interviewed by Tony Schiavone, who asked him what was next. After PAC berated Schiavone, Cassidy came out and the two had a staredown.

After Best Friends defeated The Butcher and The Blade later in the show, Schiavone asked them and Cassidy about the upcoming match. Chuck Taylor said that Cassidy would “try” in the match. Trent didn’t seem too sure about that, saying that Cassidy hasn’t said whether or not he would try. When Schiavone asked Cassidy about the match, he gave his signature half thumbs up.

Revolution will take place at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Allin made his return last week on Dynamite, attacking The Inner Circle who were beating down Jon Moxley. Holding up signs, he issued a challenge for Revolution, saying Moxley will take Jericho’s title, but Allin will take so much more from Guevara, including his voice and his livelihood.

Tag team battle royal announced for February 19 AEW Dynamite

A tag team battle royal will take place in two weeks on Dynamite.

It was announced on tonight’s episode of Dynamite that a battle royal would be taking place in two weeks in Atlanta. No entrants were announced. The winners of the battle royal will receive an AEW Tag Team title match at Revolution on February 29.

Who the champions will be is not currently known. Hangman Page and Kenny Omega will defend the titles next week in Austin, Texas when they face former champions Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky of SCU. The winners of this match will likely be the champions going into Revolution.

Page and Omega won the titles back on the January 21 edition of Dynamite. Page has a tenuous relationship with both Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, choosing to leave the group on a recent episode of Being the Elite.

The February 19 edition of Dynamite will take place at the State Farm Arena.
