Fight Game: What’s next for the Blackpool Combat Club?

John LaRocca and I are back with another Fight Game Podcast. We’ve made some small changes to the show which we discuss right at the top.

We talk about the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view and offer up a few dream matches that we’d like to see.

We talk about Randy Orton’s 20 years at WWE and think about how WWE can utilize him now given how over he is as a babyface in his booking.

Lastly, we review AEW Dynamite and try and answer these questions:

  • Was Dax Harwood vs. Cash Wheeler good?
  • Is Wheeler Yuta a top prospect?
  • What’s next for the Blackpool Combat Club?
  • Did Eddie Kingston go overboard?
  • What was the purpose of the main event?

Fight Game: Joe vs. Suzuki, NXT Tag Team title gauntlet match, WWE 2K22 thoughts

John LaRocca and I are back with another Fight Game Podcast.

Before we get started with our normal show, we bring on Figure Four Online editor and contributor Bryan Rose to talk about WWE 2K22. He gives us his thoughts on the new game as well as expectations for AEW’s game that’s coming out in the fall.

John and I then review both AEW Dynamite and NXT. Dynamite was a quality wrestling heavy show, including the sleeper match of the night between Team Taz and Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland, a main event that made the hot crowd happy, and more. NXT’s show was more of a throwaway until we got to the gauntlet match for the Tag Team titles which was very good.

DragonKing Dark: The video game crash of 1983

Continuing our 100 darkest moments in pop culture series, this week’s DragonKing Dark takes a look back at the video game crash of 1983.

It was a moment in time where subpar games were being produced en masse as a cash grab during a home video game boom. Juan Nunez wrote a tremendous article about this crash (and the one that preceded it) for When It Was Cool and this is that story.

DragonKing Dark: Napster Kills the Music Business

Nothing is free. Everything has a cost, including music.

Our series of 100 of the darkest moments in pop culture history continues with an entry you might not expect.

In the late 1990s through early 2000s, file sharing services like Napster and Limewire were all the rage. People justified stealing music by pointing out the hypocrisy and lavish indulgences of the big music companies. But the artists were caught in the crossfire and the music industry changed, and not necessarily for the better.

On this week’s DragonKing Dark, we look at how the rise of Napster and file sharing both paved the way for streaming and podcasting but almost killed the music business at the same time.

Left My Wallet: Ross Hart talks Hart family, NHL and Dynamite Kid

On a new Left My Wallet, I talk with Hart family member and wrestling historian Ross Hart.

Ross has done it all in the business from wrestling, booking, promoting, reffing to even selling tickets and refreshments for his father’s Stampede Wrestling.

He joins the show to talk about the current state of the NHL, his Calgary Flames, who he believes is the greatest hockey player ever, and why Canada needs more NHL teams.

We then talk about the legendary Hart family flag football games that included Dynamite Kid and how he was unstoppable on the gridiron. He also talks about the rivalry between Bruce and Bret and the competition among other wrestlers and pro football players.

He then talks about how Dynamite Kid changed the entire wrestling landscape, how he came to Stampede Wrestling, why he is the most influential wrestler of the last 50 years and the stories of going from Stampede to WWF.

He also talks about working for World of Sport, wrestling in front of 20,000 people in his first match, working in Stampede and then some of the greats that he has been in the ring with. Finally, he discusses some of his favorite workers from today and what he sees for the business moving forward.

This is a fun and very informative conversation with a true wrestling historian who comes from wrestling royalty.

Pacific Rim: Dave Meltzer on Wrestle Kingdom 16, Americanized booking, Stardom & more

It’s a Pacific Rim tradition when Fumi Saito and Dave Meltzer get together and give their overall thoughts on Wrestle Kingdom.

In talking about Wrestle Kingdom 16, we focus specifically on the main events and the Tanahashi-KENTA match. Is NJPW relying too much on Americanized tricks and shortcuts? Is that what the audience wants from New Japan?

We also talk about NOAH, Stardom, Strong Kobayashi and more. Just click below to listen.
