**********

– The show starts with Lexy Nair in the back with Samoa Joe issuing an Open Challenge for the ROH TV Title tonight to show Mark Briscoe what’s in store for him at Supercard of Honor. Well, I wonder who will answer that one.

Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were on the call as always as the Varsity Athletes made their way to the ring.

Mark Briscoe defeated Tony Nese (w/Josh Woods & Smart Mark Sterling)

Nese jump-started the match against Briscoe while Briscoe was praying in the corner, but Briscoe quickly got himself on offense. Briscoe took Nese to the floor and threw him around before landing the Cactus Jack elbow off the apron. Sterling took Briscoe’s attention, which allowed Nese to send Briscoe into the ringpost.

Nese took the referee’s attention as Woods laid out Briscoe on the floor with a suplex. Back in the ring, Nese got Briscoe in the tree of woe before doing crunches and kicking a defenseless Briscoe in the chest. Nese sent Briscoe into the corner, but Briscoe countered with a boot. Briscoe went for the Jay Driller, but Nese got out and hit a spin kick to the head for a nearfall.

Briscoe fought out of a body scissors, but Nese hit a hot shot to Briscoe over the ropes. Nese missed a springboard moonsault, allowing Briscoe to unload with chops in the corner. Iconoclasm out of the corner from Briscoe only got a nearfall. Briscoe hit a capture suplex and the big neckbreaker for a nearfall. Nese slipped out of a Redneck Boogie attempt, but Briscoe hit a brainbuster.

Nese escaped another Jay Driller attempt, but Briscoe caught Nese with the Spicolli Driver. Briscoe hit the Froggy Bow to score the win. We got a Big Murph sighting as Briscoe embraced his family in the crowd.

AR Fox, Blake Christian & Metalik defeated The Trustbusters (Ari Daivari, Jeeves Kay & Slim J) (w/ Smart Mark Sterling)

This match had a pretty hot finish, but I’m very tired of the Trustbusters. That may not bode well for me as the Ring of Honor reviewer.

Fox kicked off the match with Jeeves Kay, who took Fox down with some quick offense before Fox answered with fast offense of his own. Christian and Daivari tagged in, with Christian using his speed to run Daivari down. Christian hit a springboard crossbody for a nearfall. Daivari sent Christian into the corner where Christian got clubbered on by the Trustbusters.

The Trustbusters worked over Christian for a while before Christian got the tag into Metalik. Metalik fired up on Daivari, walking the ropes before hitting a splash for two. Metalik got sent to the floor where Daivari sent him ribs first into the apron. More clubbering on Metalik before Metalik hit a handspring elbow on Kay. Daivari cut off a tag before taking a springboard elbow.

Eventually, Fox got the hot tag in and fired up on all three Trustbusters with cutters. Fox used Kay as a base to hit a dive on Daivari and Slim J on the floor. Christian hit a twisting dive to the floor onto all three men. Kay used a Sterling distraction to hit an underhook suplex for a nearfall. There was a Tower of Doom spot that took Kay and Slim J out, leading to Fox hitting a cutter and a 450 for the win.

The bell rang and The Embassy immediately jumped Fox, Christian, and Metalik before standing tall.

Skye Blue defeated Lady Frost

Frost is a great athlete with a lot of impressive offense and a good look. I’d be looking at locking her down if I were in the ROH office.

Blue caught Frost with a pair of armdrags, before Frost sent her into the corner and hit a high boot. Frost hit a hurricane kick to Blue in the corner before hitting an acrobatic cannonball for a nearfall. Frost kept control with a kneesault before booting Blue off the apron. Frost hit another cannonball off the apron to Blue on the floor.

Frost and Blue traded kicks before they both went down to the mat. Blue picked up the pace on offense, ending with a spinning ground kick for a nearfall. Frost cartwheeled her way into an Air Raid Crash for a nearfall. Blue cut Frost off on a moonsault attempt, hitting a high crossbody of her own for a nearfall. Blue hit the Skyfall to score the win.

La Faccion Ingobernable (Dralistico & Rush) (w/Jose The Assistant) defeated The Foundation (Rhett Titus & Tracy Williams)

We got a hot start to this one, as LFI shunned the Code of Honor before brawling with Titus and Williams. Rush and Dralistico isolated Williams, as Dralistico hit a hurricane kick to take Williams down. Williams took a lot of punishment, but eventually hit a crotch-lift suplex on Dralistico to get the tag out to Titus.

Titus and Rush got into a mighty forearm battle before Titus caught Rush with a belly-to-belly suplex. Titus hit a pair of yakuza kicks before Williams joined him in tandem offense. Titus pinned Rush before Dralistico fell into the pile. I think he meant to break up the pin. Everybody took each other out, with the exchange ending with Williams spearing Rush out of a Bull’s Horns attempt.

Rush suplexed Titus into the corner as Dralistico dived onto Williams on the outside. Rush set up the Bull’s Horns, with the crowd finishing Rush’s catchphrase – Mess with the bull, you get the horns – as he hit the dropkick in the corner for the win.

– Caprice Coleman had a sit-down interview with Eddie Kingston and ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli. Castagnoli apologized for saying Kingston didn’t have honor, but restated his claim that a person like Kingston couldn’t hold the title. Kingston said that the ROH Title was in his lineage, as his mentors held the same title. He called Castagnoli a coward who didn’t do business – referencing Castagnoli leaving the CHIKARA promotion when he signed with WWE while feuding with Kingston – and said he would force him to do business this time. Castagnoli called Kingston a quitter who always quit when the work got too hard. Castagnoli accepted Kingston’s title challenge for Supercard of Honor, saying that after he loses, Kingston will complain and quit again. Castagnoli called Kingston the biggest waste of potential he’s ever seen, and that he will not be able to handle Castagnoli at his best. I couldn’t do this justice, this was a fantastic interview setting up the World Title match for next weekend.

Matt Taven (w/Maria Kanellis-Bennett & Mike Bennett) defeated Darius Martin

This was good, but it had a few too many shenanigans for my liking. ROH has done well at not utilizing interference too often, so I’m not upset at it. But I prefer the clean wrestling the ROH arm usually employs.

Martin started hot, sending Taven to the floor with a dropkick. Martin worked on Taven’s arm before Bennett and Maria got involved, allowing Taven to hit a springboard kick to Martin on the apron. Maria took the referee while Bennett forearmed Martin on the floor. Taven hit a backbreaker to Martin in the ring for a nearfall.

Taven hit a legsweep but missed a springboard senton. Martin picked up the pace, avoiding Just The Tip for a nearfall. Taven hit a spin kick to take Martin down again, but Martin caught him with a Manhattan Drop as he came off the top rope. Martin hit an outside-in flatliner for a nearfall. Martin countered the Climax and hit a Spanish Fly for a nearfall that Taven immediately turned into a crucifix pin for a nearfall of his own.

Taven caught Martin with Just the Tip before catching knees on a frog splash. Martin went after both Taven and Bennett on the floor but Maria tripped him up on his way back into the ring, allowing Taven to hit the Climax for the win. They went to do more damage before Dante Martin came in to stop the extracurriculars.

Brian Cage (w/Bishop Kaun, Prince Nana & Toa Liona) defeated Tony Deppen

Tony Deppen looked a lot better this week than he did against Samoa Joe. His work was cleaner, and the crowd took to him.

Deppen landed a couple of slaps on Cage as he bounced around him, but Cage caught him with a superkick before hitting the outside-in superplex. Cage kept control of Deppen but took time to toy around with him. Deppen slipped from Cage’s grip and hit a lungblower out of the corner. Deppen followed it up with a cannonball dive to the floor and running knees to the face.

Deppen hit a double stomp off the top rope for a nearfall. Cage avoided a Shining Wizard before hitting a rebound lariat. Deppen caught Cage with a small package and got a jumping knee in before Cage shut him down with a Drillclaw for the win. The Embassy beat down Deppen after the match before Metalik, Blake Christian, & AR Fox came out with weapons to avenge the attack from earlier.

Shane Taylor (w/JD Griffey) defeated Silas Young

This crowd is into Shane Taylor, as am I. Taylor was a highlight of the previous era of ROH, as well as the Final Battle show in December, so I hope he’s got big things in his future.

The crowd was behind Taylor as the men locked up. Taylor took down Young with a shoulder block, but Young hung Taylor up on the ropes. They traded forearms before Taylor sent Young to the floor with a heavy elbow. Taylor missed a legdrop on the apron, with Young hitting a knee that sent Taylor to the floor.

Young worked on Taylor, with Taylor sneaking in a crucifix pin for a nearfall. Young kept Taylor on the mat with elbow drops. Young talked trash, allowing Taylor to catch Young with a lariat. Taylor went on the offensive, catching Young with a knee and a Sky High for a nearfall. Young caught Taylor with knees of his own and a tornado DDT for a two count.

Young tried to pick Taylor up, but Taylor took him down with a headbutt before picking him up into a uranage for a nearfall. Young avoided the package piledriver, hitting Taylor with the spinning knee. Young got Taylor up for the rolling slam but missed the Pee Gee Waja Plunge. Taylor hit a running knee before planting Young with the Package Piledriver for the win.

Billie Starkz defeated Miranda Alize

Alize was called the Lucha Baddie, and after slapping the hand of Starkz, she definitely displayed rudo tendencies. Alize bit the hand of Starkz, but Starkz hit a half-and-half suplex before diving onto Alize on the floor. Starkz missed the double stomp, leading to Alize yanking her down by the hair to the mat. Alize clubbered on Starkz in the corner before catching her with a back elbow.

Alize sent Starkz into the ropes before hitting the La Mistica – which she calls the Miranda Rights – before Starkz escaped and hit a knee that got Alize off of her. Starkz hit a pinpoint back heel kick before hitting a Spicolli Driver for a nearfall. Alize cut her off on the apron before hitting a basement rana for a nearfall. Starkz hit a brainbuster on the knee for a nearfall before missing a senton.

Alize went for the Drive By shining wizard, but Starks avoided it with a rollup for two. Alize went for the Miranda Rights again, but Starkz caught her with a Tombstone Piledriver for the win.

Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) defeated Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal

Aussie Open has been the unquestioned highlight of Ring of Honor television, as they have had several excellent matches on the show. This was no exception, as Daniels and Sydal worked so well with them here in front of a red hot crowd. I can’t recommend this one enough.

Daniels & Sydal must have the advantage here, with all the flying Aussie Open have been doing between the US and Japan. Flatcher and Sydal started, with Sydal catching Fletcher with a rollup for two. Daniels came in, with Fletcher quickly slamming him down and tagging out to Davis. Davis laid in chops to Daniels, but Daniels tripped him into the corner before landing a lariat to the back of the head.

Sydal and Daniels double teamed Davis, with Sydal throwing Daniels up and over onto Davis before landing a standing moonsault. Daniels went for a sunset flip on Davis, but Fletcher got a blind tag. They took out both Daniels and Sydal before crashing them into each other on the outside.

Aussie Open worked on Daniels, with Davis starting a vertical suplex before passing him off to Fletcher. Daniels caught Fletcher in an inside cradle for two. More work on Daniels, but as Aussie Open went for the tandem cutter, Daniels fought his way out with a flatliner to Davis.

Sydal got the tag in and laid in the kicks on both men. Sydal hit an incredible frankensteiner for a nearfall. Sydal hit a jumping frankensteiner to Fletcher out of the corner for another nearfall. Davis cut Sydal off as he went to the top rope, allowing Fletcher to hit a boot in the corner. Daniels low bridged Davis to the floor, and helped Sydal hit a powerbomb/meteora combination for two. A run of big moves left Fletcher and Daniels in the ring as the crowd chanted ROH.

Davis hip tossed Daniels to the floor before going for the Close Your Eyes piledriver on Sydal. Sydal caught Davis with a frankensteiner and fought both men off before getting caught with the Dental Plan and the tandem cutter for a nearfall that Daniels broke up. Daniels dragged Sydal to the corner to tag in. Daniels hit a double noggin knocker before getting a nearfall on a Blue Thunder Bomb.

Angel’s Wings attempt got cut off, but Daniels avoided the Dental Plan. Sydal tried cutting off Aussie Open, but Fletcher cut him off with a spinning Tombstone. Daniels went for the Angel’s Wings on Fletcher, but Davis cut him off with a forearm. Aussie Open hit the double forearms on Daniels before landing the Coreolis for the win.

ROH World Television Title Match: Samoa Joe (c) defeated Cheeseburger

Ah, ok. Joe immediately drilled Cheeseburger with punches in the corner and a lariat. A Muscle Buster ended this one almost immediately. After the match, Joe landed a second Muscle Buster while calling out Mark Briscoe. Joe grabbed a chair and went to do more damage, but Mark Briscoe came out with a chair of his own as the show went off the air.

Samoa Joe vs. Mark Briscoe TV title match set for ROH Supercard of Honor

A World Television Championship match is official for ROH Supercard of Honor on March 31.

In a bout made official on this week’s Ring of Honor TV episode, Samoa Joe will defend the ROH TV title against Mark Briscoe at the pay-per-view on Friday, March 31.

Briscoe answered Joe’s call for a challenger on last week’s episode, then the match was officially announced on this week’s show.

Briscoe is currently an ROH Tag Team Champion, holding the titles with his late brother Jay. New Tag champs will be crowned at Supercard of Honor in a Reach for the Sky ladder match, with Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix currently the only team officially announced for that bout.

Briscoe will be in singles action on next week’s ROH TV, facing Tony Nese.

Joe has held the TV title since defeating Minoru Suzuki to win the Championship on an AEW Dynamite episode on April 13, 2022.

The current lineup for Supercard:

ROH Supercard of Honor, Friday, March 31, 7 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view —

  • ROH World Television Championship: Samoa Joe defends against Mark Briscoe
  • Reach for the Sky ladder match for the ROH Tag Team Championship: Lucha Bros vs. TBA

Mark Briscoe to face Samoa Joe for ROH TV title

Mark Briscoe is set to face Samoa Joe for the ROH World Television Championship.

On this week’s Ring of Honor TV, Briscoe issued a future title challenge to ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe, which Joe accepted.

Following a successful defense against Tony Deppen on this week’s show, Joe took the mic and declared an open challenge for his Championship, noting that he runs Ring of Honor. Briscoe then answered the challenge by issuing his own challenge to Joe, which Joe accepted.

No date was announced for the future title match, but the Supercard of Honor pay-per-view on March 31 appears to be a likely destination.

In addition to Joe defeating Deppen, two other title matches took place on this week’s ROH TV.

Wheeler Yuta successfully defended the ROH Pure Championship, defeating Timothy Thatcher. Yuta is also set to defend the Pure title on next week’s episode, taking on Clark Connors.

In Thursday’s main event, Athena retained the ROH Women’s World title, defeating Willow Nightingale in the main event.

Our full report from Thursday’s episode can be found here.

AEW Dark results: Lucha Brothers & Mark Briscoe vs. Moriarty, Hardy & Kassidy

This was a quick show that was over in about 40 minutes, taped at the Cow Palace Friday.

The Acclaimed (w/ Billy Gunn) defeated The WorkHorsemen (5:53)

Max Caster did a pre-match rap suggesting that his opponents lived in a meth lab and jerked off horses. They were also happy to be in the Bay Area. The crowd chanted “San Fran-scissor,”but Taz wasn’t impressed.

They had a basic tag match with some nice spots. Caster avoided a JD Drake moonsault and hit an Attitude Adjustment. Acclaimed followed with Scissor Me Timbers on Drake for the pinfall win.

Gunn gave fameassers to both Drake and Anthony Henry after the match. Anthony Bowens, Caster and Gunn scissored each other.

Daniel Garcia (w/ Sammy Guevara) defeated Aaron Solo (6:25)

Solo got a decent response on the way out because he was announced as from San Francisco.

Garcia teased chucking Solo into the crowd, which they wanted, but Garcia tossed him in the ring instead and mocked the crowd. Garcia worked over Solo and did a little dance while he did, but Solo made a comeback which included a dive and diving double foot stomp for two.

The crowd got behind Solo but he was cut off by Garcia’s Rock Bottom. Instead of going for a cover, Garcia got distracted by Guevera who wanted a hug. Solo knocked Guevara off the apron and hit Garcia with a corkscrew kick. Solo went to the top but Guevera distracted him and Garcia hit a lung blower for the pinfall win.

Guevara grabbed a mic and announced he had a gift for Garcia. The crowd booed. It was a t-shirt with a picture of Guevara and Garcia together, but it only had Sammy’s name on it. The crowd chanted “throw it out” but Garcia reluctantly put it on. Sammy was thrilled but Garcia was less than impressed.

Hook defeated Peter Avalon (0:47)

Avalon cut a heel promo before the match saying he would have beaten Chris Jericho if they were in southern California instead of San Fran. He said he would beat whatever idiot came out for a match.

Hook won quickly by submission with Redrum.

Lucha Brothers (w/ Alex Abrahantes) & Mark Briscoe defeated Matt Hardy, Lee Moriarty & Isaiah Kassidy (w/ Stokely Hathaway) (7:12)

The crowd was really into Penta and Rey Fénix to start. The heels were in control until Mark Briscoe tagged in and handed out chops. The crowd charmed “dem boys.” Kassidy got a two count on Fénix on a schoolboy. Everyone came in and traded moves until Penta dropped Hardy with a slingblade.

Lucha Brothers hit Kassidy with Fear Factor and Briscoe followed with a Froggy Bow and Penta made the cover for the pinfall win.

Tony Khan announces Mark Briscoe is All Elite, will wrestle in AEW & ROH

Mark Briscoe has officially signed with AEW.

Following Wednesday’s Dynamite, Tony Khan confirmed on Twitter that Briscoe had signed with the company. Khan clarified that Briscoe will wrestle both in AEW and in Ring of Honor.

“Mark Briscoe earned his second win on TBS on #AEWDynamite tonight, and now it’s official: Mark Briscoe is All Elite! Congratulations @SussexCoChicken!” Khan wrote. “Mark Briscoe will continue with us in AEW + remains in ROH, it was great having him on #AEWDynamite tonight, and I’m excited for Mark to participate in the debut of the new @ringofhonor TV!”

Khan had said last July that The Briscoes had signed long-term Ring of Honor contracts. Mark is one half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions, with he and his brother Jay winning the titles back in December at Final Battle defeating FTR in a dog collar match. Jay died in January following a car accident, but The Briscoes currently remain champions.

After a television ban by Warner Bros. Discovery was lifted, Mark made his debut on AEW television on the January 25 edition of Dynamite, defeating Jay Lethal. He wrestled for a second time on Wednesday’s Dynamite, defeating Josh Woods following a confrontation that aired on last Friday’s Rampage.

Mark Briscoe vs. Josh Woods announced for AEW Dynamite

Mark Briscoe is in action this coming week on AEW Dynamite.

Briscoe will take on Josh Woods this coming Wednesday in Laredo, Texas. A segment on Friday’s Rampage showed Woods’ manager Smart Mark Sterling attempt to recruit Briscoe. When Briscoe said he wasn’t interested, Woods got in Briscoe’s face, setting up the match.

A Texas Tornado match was also announced, with Rush and Preston Vance taking on Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli in a Texas Tornado tag team match.

Other matches set to take place include Brian Cage taking on Jungle Boy Jack Perry and Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian. Page was cutting a promo about his recent match against Moxley when Sabian came up to Hangman and taunted him. Cage confronted Jungle Boy Jack Perry on Friday’s show after Perry defeated Ryan Nemeth.

Orange Cassidy, The Acclaimed, and Billy Gunn will team up to take on Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt following an angle that took place at the end of Rampage. The latter team had attacked Orange Cassidy when The Acclaimed came out to make the save.

A three-way match was also added to Dynamite, with Toni Storm facing Ruby Soho and Britt Baker.

Jim Ross will conduct an interview with Wardlow, and Renee Paquette will have a sit-down with Adam Cole. MJF is also slated to appear on the show.

Here is the current lineup for Wednesday’s Dynamite:

  • Texas Tornado: Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Rush and Preston Vance
  • Mark Briscoe vs. Josh Woods
  • Toni Storm vs. Ruby Soho vs. Britt Baker
  • Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian
  • Brian Cage vs. Jungle Boy
  • Orange Cassidy, The Acclaimed, and Billy Gunn vs. Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt
  • MJF is contractually obligated to appear
  • Wardlow sit-down interview
  • Adam Cole sit-down interview

AEW Rampage live results: Mark Briscoe appearance, All-Atlantic title match

Mark Briscoe will make his AEW Rampage debut tonight in his first appearance since winning his promotional debut last month.

Briscoe will share some thoughts as only he can after defeating Jay Lethal in his Dynamite debut.

Friday will also feature an All-Atlantic title match as Orange Cassidy defends against Lee Moriarty, made in a backstage segment that debuted on social media. Moriarty will be looking for his first taste of AEW gold while Cassidy is gunning for his 11th title defense.

The Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta will take on Kip Sabian and The Butcher & The Blade in trios action.

“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry will look for his fifth straight win as he faces Ryan Nemeth.

Ruby Soho will look for her third straight win as she faces Marina Shafir for the first time ever. Soho is the middle of a feud with Toni Storm & Saraya who also have issues with Britt Baker.

**********

The preview before the show started was for last week’s show. Whoops.

Taped in El Paso, Texas. .

Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho were on commentary.

Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta defeated Kip Sabian & The Butcher & The Blade (w/ Penelope Ford) (13:24)

No Bunny with the heel team, probably because she got her face smashed on Dynamite. Sabian and Yuta started out. Castagnoli got the tag and press-slammed Sabian. The Butcher and Castagnoli exchanged power moves. The heels got the edge after the Butcher got a high backdrop and diving crossbody on Yuta. Sabian gave Yuta a stunner out of a suplex in a creative spot.

The heels triple-teamed Yuta in their corner. Sabian charged into a boot from Yuta. Yuta caught Sabian with a dropkick from the middle rope and got the tag to Moxley. Moxley worked over Sabian in the corner and bit his forehead. Moxley hit a pair of backdrop suplexes on Sabian. Moxley locked in a kimura and transitioned into the hammer and anvil elbows. Sabian came back with a quick knee and backed Moxley into the heel corner, where the heels crotched him against the ringpost. Butcher suplexed Moxley on the floor, and Sabian hit an arabian press on the floor.

Moxley got worked over by the heels during a split-screen break.

Sabian tried a hurricanrana off the top on Moxley, but Moxley countered with a powerbomb. Butcher tried to run interference, but Moxley took him out with the King Kong Lariat. Castagnoli and the Blade got tags. Penelope Ford distracted Castagnoli with a rotary phone (google it, kids), but Castagnoli was undeterred. He went for the swing on Blade, but Sabian jumped on his back to save Blade. So Sabian got the giant swing instead. Blade tried to roll up Castagnolia (disoriented by his own move!), but Castagnoli got him in the sharpshooter. The Butcher broke that up, but Moxley took him out with a cutter. Sabian came in with a springboard dropkick on Moxley, and the Blade dumped Moxley. Butcher and Blade almost got the win after a double-team on Castagnoli. Then in an impressive spot, Yuta german suplexed the Blade.

Castagnoli launched Yuta to the floor onto the Butcher. Sabian tried to springboard in on Claudio, but Moxley caught him with a cutter. Castagnoli finally caught Blade with a pop up uppercut and got the pinfall. Wild match after the commerical.

– Darby Allin and Sting cut a promo. Allin won’t challenge Samoa Joe for the TNT title again, and he also promised to have Ortiz’s back (after he saved him from the House of Black a few weeks ago on Dynamite). Sting said he and Allin will go out “in a blaze of glory!”

– Renee Paquette will speak with Adam Cole on Dynamite next Wednesday. They teased revealing who Cole’s next opponent is going to be.

– Ricky Starks still wants to take Chris Jericho down “several notches” and he will start with Daniel Garcia. Garcia v. Starks was made offical for next week’s Rampage later in the show.

– Two of the Impractical Jokers came to taunt Chris Jericho with his stolen bat. These guys made “small bat” jokes at Jericho’s expense. They verbally “spar” with Jericho, until the Jericho Appreciation Society showed and attacked the Impractical Jokers. They put one of the jokers on a table then powerbombed the other guy though it. Jake Hager’s hat stayed on the whole time.

– Lexi Nair interviewed Dustin Rhodes in an abandoned warehouse. Pretty clever location, this way no one will interrupt the interview. Rhodes’s focus is Swerve Strickland, who wears a Doritos for a logo on his chest? Rhodes will not tolerate Swerve tarnishing his family name. Swerve’s crew show up to attack Rhodes and put him through some wooden pallets. Swerve Strickland v. Dustin Rhodes was made offical for next week’s Rampage later in the show.

Ruby Soho defeated Marina Shafir (w/ Vickie Guerrero) (5:37 aired).

Most of the first four minutes of this match took place during a split-screen break. After the commercial, Soho dropped Shafir on her head with a back suplex for a near fall. Soho went for the No Future, but Shafir blocked it. Soho headbutted Shafir, then hit Destination Unknown for the pinfall. More than half of the match took place in the break.

After the match, Toni Storm and Saraya came out to call Soho “Baby Girl” and recruit her for the Ladies World Order, but Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker ran in and start brawling. They’re broken up by a gaggle of officials. Excalibur announced Soho v. Storm v. Baker for Dynamite.

– Lexi Nair tried to interview Mark Briscoe, but Mark Sterling interrupted (because Lexi just can’t ever get through an interview no matter what she tries) to offer Briscoe his services. Briscoe politely declined, so Sterling called him a “stupid chicken farmer.” Before Briscoe could destroy Sterling, Josh Woods stepped in to remind Briscoe he’s not in Delaware anymore.  Briscoe v. Woods was made official for Dynamite later in the show.

“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry defeated Ryan Nemeth (1:25)

Jungle Boy hit Nemeth with a sliding elbow strike to the back of the head. Brian Cage and Prince Nana came out after the match to confront Perry from the entrance stage. Perry v. Page was announced for Dynamite later in the show.

– Ortiz admitted he messed up with Eddie Kingston, but he won’t let Kingston become a martyr for the House of Black, even if that means he has to fight Kingston. So, if I’m following this right, Kingston wanted to join the House of Black two weeks ago, last week the House of Black didn’t want anything to do with Kingston, and this week Ortiz will fight Kingston to keep him from joining the House of Black.

– Renee Paquette interviewed an agitated Hangman Page, who isn’t happy about the way he lost to Moxley last week and that Paquette is always interviewing him after he fights Moxley.  Page made the point he and Moxley are the two top guys in AEW, and a match between them shouldn’t end with a cradle.

They’re interrupted by Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford (and her rotary phone). Sabian got beat up by Moxley, but he isn’t crying about it like Page! Page left before he beat up Sabian. Later in the show Page v. Kip Sabian was announced for Dynamite Wednesday.

– Jon Mocley & Claudio Castagnoli will take on Rush and Preston Vance in a Texas Tornado match on Dynamite Wednesday. Also MJF will be contractually obligated to appear and Jim Ross will sit down with Wardlow.

Orange Cassidy (w/ Danhausen) defeated Lee Moriarty (w/ Stokley Hathaway) to retain the All-Atlantic Championship (11:28)

Moriarty grabbed a side headlock and Cassidy’s sunglasses. Cassidy reversed the hammerlock and got the sunglasses back. Cassidy was more concerned with keeping his sunglasses, so Moriarty got a go-behind and waistlock to take control. Cassidy escaped with his hands in his pockets and hit a dropkick. Hathaway never misses a trick; he had his left arm in a cast after Hook attacked him on Dynamite Wednesday.

Cassidy and Moriarty exchanged arm ringers, and Moriarty got a near fall with a version of the European clutch. They fought to the apron, and Moriarty took Cassidy down by the arm on the ring apron to take control. Moriarty worked on Cassidy’s arm during the split-screen break.

After the break, Cassidy hit Moriaty with a Michinoku Driver for two. Cassidy hit a slumdog millionaire and locked on a sleeper. Moriarty escaped and tried for the Border City Stretch, but Cassidy escaped to the ropes. Moriarty pounded him with forearms and kicks and Cassidy dropped to the floor. Excalibur denied the legitimacy of Stokley’s cast. Danhausen and Hathaway got into on the floor, and Hathaway blocked Danhausen’s low blow with his cast, hurting them both.

This distraction allowed Cassidy to hit Moriarty with a diving DDT on the floor. Cassidy came back in with a diving DDT in the ring. Moriaty dodged the Orange Punch and hit a lariat out of a hammerlock. Cassidy came back with the Beach Break. Cassidy finally hit the Orange Punch, but he was slow to cover and Moriarty caught him with the Border City Stretch. Cassidy tried to get to the ropes, Moriaty tried to roll Cassidy back into the center of the ring, but Cassidy countered that with a cradle and got the pinfall.

After the match, Satnam Singh came out on the stage to distract Cassidy and Danhausen. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal ran in from behind and attacked them with the Golden Globe. The Best Friends tried to make the save but got laid out as well. Jarrett was about to break a guitar over Cassidy’s head, but The Acclaimed ran in (to not much of a pop) and make the save.

Final Thoughts:

Rampage is moving to 7pm next week. Hopefully the load up the show a little bit to try and take advantage of the earlier timeslot. Tonight’s show set up a lot of stuff for next week.

Mark Briscoe appearance set for AEW Rampage

For the first time, Mark Briscoe will appear on Friday’s AEW Rampage.

This will be Briscoe’s first appearance on AEW TV since defeating Jay Lethal last month in a Dynamite tribute match to his late brother, Jay Briscoe. That night was Mark’s AEW debut after WBD lifted a ban on both brothers appearing on AEW TV due to Jay’s past tweets and the duo wearing Confederate flag ring gear in the past.

For now, the Briscoes are still recognized as the Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions.

The show will also feature the Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) in trios action as they face The Butcher and The Blade & Kip Sabian.

“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry will be in singles action against an opponent to be named as he continues his quest for gold this year. Perry will be looking for his fourth straight singles win dating back to November’s Full Gear.

Ruby Soho will take on Marina Shafir in singles action to round out the card. Soho will be gunning for her third straight singles win after recently knocking off Tay Melo and Toni Storm.

Here’s the full lineup which is being taped after tonight’s Dynamite in El Paso, Texas:

  • Blackpool Combat Club vs. Kip Sabian and The Butcher & The Blade
  • Jack Perry in action
  • Ruby Soho vs. Marina Shafir
  • Mark Briscoe appearance

Briscoes were kept off AEW TV by WBD due to past tweets, Confederate flag gear

A second reason The Briscoes were not allowed on AEW TV by Warner Bros. Discovery was revealed in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer wrote that while the main issue was due to well-publicized homophobic tweets the late Jay Briscoe made nearly ten years ago and later atoned for, a secondary reason was their past use of the Confederate flag on both their ring jackets and gear.

The use of the flag has become a controversial one in American culture with proponents saying its use honors Southern U.S. heritage and commemorates the Civil War while its critics believe it glorifies racism, slavery and segregation among other things.

Following Jay’s passing on January 17th in a head-on car accident, AEW was unable to pay full homage to the Ring of Honor star on AEW TV immediately after due to the ban.

That was lifted this past week as Mark Briscoe was announced as making his AEW Dynamite debut against Jay Lethal to honor his brother on what would have been his 39th birthday. A tribute video aired the same night in addition to the locker room coming out on the stage following the match to pay respect.

Meltzer noted there are no further restrictions on Mark Briscoe appearing on AEW TV and that this past Wednesday wasn’t a one-off appearance.

Mark Briscoe says he will ‘carry on’ for Jay Briscoe

In a video posted by ROH color commentator Caprice Coleman from an airport Thursday, Mark Briscoe said he will continue to “carry on” for his late brother, Jay.

Mark said that family is the most important thing to him and that for 23 years, he and Jay were on the road wrestling in different towns and countries and, “now, I’m going carry on for him.”

Mark said his brother will always be with him and if he didn’t think that, he wouldn’t be good.

Jay died unexpectedly in a car accident on Tuesday, January 17th in Laurel, Delaware.

After WBD lifted their internal ban on AEW featuring The Briscoes on TV, Mark competed in AEW for the first time ever on Wednesday’s Dynamite, defeating Jay Lethal in the main event.

Afterward, the locker room came out on the stage and honored Jay as the show came to an end with a graphic of him on the big screen.

Mark joked to Coleman that “I’m sore” after last night’s match.

The three-hour tribute to Jay went live on YouTube and HonorClub for free Thursday morning.

Mark Briscoe defeats Jay Lethal in Jay Briscoe tribute match on AEW Dynamite

Mark Briscoe made his AEW debut on Wednesday’s Dynamite, defeating Jay Lethal in a match dedicated to his late brother Jay.

In a match that headlined Wednesday’s show, Briscoe won after finally hitting the Jay Driller on Lethal. Briscoe had repeatedly attempted to go for his brother’s finish during the match, but Lethal managed to avoid the move until being taken down by two lariats.

After the match, the AEW locker room came out and applauded both men. Briscoe, into the camera, told Jamin that he loved him as he exited the ring, holding both Ring of Honor Tag Team titles. Briscoe hugged several people, including Tony Khan, before posing with the titles as the show ended.

Earlier on Dynamite, a tribute video aired highlighting Jay Briscoe’s career.

Tony Khan announced last Wednesday that a ROH tribute show in Jay Briscoe’s memory would be taped following the AEW Rampage tapings in Fresno. The show had briefly been listed to premiere on ROH’s YouTube channel on Wednesday night, but the video later went private.
