WWE announces lineup for next week’s SmackDown

Two matches, along with a pair of segments, have been announced for next week’s SmackDown.

It was announced on tonight’s SmackDown that Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak will find a mystery partner to take on the team of Baron Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro next week in a six-man tag team match. This was set after Cesaro and Nakamura aided Corbin in attacking Daniel Bryan tonight.

Tamina and Lacey Evans will also team up next week to take on best friends Sasha Banks and Bayley. This follows an altercation tonight that involved Bayley and Banks attacking Tamina backstage. Evans got involved to even the odds, leading to officials breaking up the fight.

A face-to-face meeting between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt has also been set. Wyatt confronted Strowman tonight by reading a “story” that alluded to Strowman’s previous association with the Wyatt family.

Additionally, Jeff Hardy will make his return on SmackDown. Recent weeks on SmackDown has focused on Jeff Hardy’s road to redemption, something that Sheamus has taken offense to in recent weeks. After the conclusion of tonight’s video package, Sheamus made it clear to the announcers that he would be around next week as well.

Lacey Evans, Baron Corbin qualify for WWE Money in the Bank

There’s now only one remaining spot left in each of this year’s Money in the Bank ladder matches.

Lacey Evans defeated Sasha Banks on SmackDown tonight to qualify for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Shayna Baszler, Asuka, Nia Jax, and Dana Brooke are the other four wrestlers who have qualified thus far.

Evans hit Banks with the Woman’s Right during their match, but Bayley helped put Banks’ foot on the bottom rope to break the count. Evans then went after Bayley. Banks rolled Evans up, but the referee was distracted by Bayley and couldn’t make the count. Banks told Bayley to stay out of it, then turned around and Evans hit another Woman’s Right to get the win.

Baron Corbin defeated Drew Gulak tonight to qualify for the men’s ladder match. He joins Aleister Black, Apollo Crews, Rey Mysterio, and Daniel Bryan as the wrestlers who have qualified for it.

Corbin won after Gulak was distracted by Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro attacking Bryan on the outside. Following the match, Nakamura and Cesaro held Gulak so that Corbin could hit him with a scepter.

The last two Money in the Bank qualifying matches are taking place on SmackDown next Friday. They are Mandy Rose vs. Carmella and Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler.

Money in the Bank is set for Sunday, May 10. Both ladder matches are taking place at WWE’s headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. They’ll begin on the ground floor of Titan Towers, with the briefcases hanging on the roof of the building.

WWE announces two MITB qualifiers for next week’s SmackDown

SmackDown’s next two participants for Money in the Bank will be confirmed next Friday.

WWE has announced two Money in the Bank qualifying matches for next week’s episode of SmackDown. Sasha Banks and Lacey Evans will face off to determine who will be in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, and Drew Gulak and Baron Corbin will face off to determine one of the spots for the men’s ladder match.

Evans got involved in Banks’ match against Tamina on SmackDown tonight. Bayley distracted Tamina during the match and went to attack her with a shoe, but Evans ran out and laid Bayley out. Tamina defeated Banks and will get a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Gulak stopped Shinsuke Nakamura from interfering in Daniel Bryan’s qualifying match against Cesaro tonight. Baron Corbin also made an appearance on tonight’s show, attacking Elias backstage.

The Money in the Bank ladder matches will feature three wrestlers from Raw and three from SmackDown. Raw’s Shayna Baszler, Asuka, and Nia Jax and SmackDown’s Dana Brooke have qualified for the women’s ladder match. Daniel Bryan is the first wrestler to qualify for the men’s ladder match.

Three men’s Money in the Bank qualifying matches have been announced for Monday’s Raw: Rey Mysterio vs. Murphy, Aleister Black vs. Austin Theory, and Apollo Crews vs. MVP.

Money in the Bank is set for Sunday, May 10. The men’s and women’s ladder matches are both taking place at WWE headquarters.

Here’s the updated lineup for next week’s SmackDown:

  • Triple H’s 25th anniversary celebration begins
  • Money in the Bank qualifying match: Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans
  • Money in the Bank qualifying match: Drew Gulak vs. Baron Corbin
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross defend their titles against Carmella & Dana Brooke

SmackDown Women’s title match official for WWE WrestleMania 36

There will be multiple challengers for Bayley’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 36.

On tonight’s SmackDown, it was confirmed that Bayley will defend her title in a six-pack challenge elimination match at WrestleMania. Lacey Evans, Dana Brooke, Tamina, Naomi, and Sasha Banks will be Bayley’s challengers.

Paige appeared via Skype on SmackDown tonight and announced the match. Paige confronting Bayley had been set for last week’s SmackDown, but it was noted that Paige couldn’t make that show due to travel issues.

Banks was the last of Bayley’s opponents to be revealed by Paige. The story appeared to be that Banks initially wasn’t happy about Bayley having to defend her title in the match but then looked pleased to be one of her challengers.

Carmella isn’t one of the challengers in the six-pack elimination match.

WrestleMania 36 is a two-night event airing on the WWE Network on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5. WWE hasn’t announced which matches will be airing on which night. The show “will not only take place at WWE’s training facility but will include multiple locations over two nights.”

Bayley & Banks vs. Naomi & Evans rematch set for WWE SmackDown

A tag team rematch will be taking place on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley & Sasha Banks will again team together against Naomi & Lacey Evans this Friday. The match announcement was made when Bayley & Banks appeared on this morning’s episode of WWE’s The Bump.

Naomi & Evans defeated Bayley & Banks last week. After unsuccessfully challenging for Bayley’s title at Super ShowDown, the finish to the tag match was Naomi pinning Bayley with a sunset flip.

Last Friday’s match was the first time Banks had wrestled since January 3. It originally started as Bayley vs. Naomi, but Banks attacked Naomi to cause a disqualification. It was made a tag match after Evans ran down to make the save.

This week’s SmackDown is the go-home show for Elimination Chamber. The episode is taking place at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

WWE has also announced that Bray Wyatt will host a Firefly Fun House segment on SmackDown this Friday. Wyatt, who lost the Universal Championship to Goldberg at Super ShowDown, will face John Cena at WrestleMania 36.

WOL: Lacey Evans loves the fans while Seth Rollins does not

On Wrestling Observer Live Saturday, we look at the results from the NWA Hard Times PPV, the title changes, use of veterans and the outstanding young talent.

From there, we look at Saturday’s WWE Worlds Collide event, why it’s not generating a lot fan interest, and the possible outcomes for for Sunday’s Royal Rumble.

Highlights from Smackdown on Fox include Miz and Morrison, the contract signing between The Fiend and Daniel Bryan, and the push of Lacey Evans continues with a one-on-one interview with Michael Cole. With criticism that Lacey isn’t a strong enough wrestler, I talk about why her ability level right now isn’t that important.

Finally, in a baffling interview in a San Antonio newspaper, Seth Rollins says the audience looks for things to pick apart and that’s why the hardest job is being a babyface. Looking at the successes of the Jericho Cruise, Wrestle Kingdom and AEW, is it really?

Two more matches confirmed for WWE Royal Rumble

With two additions tonight, the card for the Royal Rumble is now up to seven announced matches.

WWE has announced that SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley will defend her title against Lacey Evans at the pay-per-view. Sheamus vs. Shorty G has also been added to the card for the show.

The SmackDown Women’s Championship match was confirmed for the Royal Rumble after Evans defeated Bayley in a non-title match tonight. Evans vs. Sasha Banks had been announced for the episode, but there was an angle where it didn’t happen for the second straight week.

Evans attacked Banks and brawled with Bayley backstage until officials separated them. In the trainers’ room after, Adam Pearce told Bayley that she would be taking Banks’ place in the match.

After Sheamus laid out Gable two weeks ago, there was a backstage interview with Gable on SmackDown tonight. Sheamus interrupted the interview and mocked Gable’s height. Gable then attacked him and they brawled until it was broken up.

Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas is hosting the Royal Rumble on January 26. Here’s the updated card:

  • Men’s Royal Rumble match
  • Women’s Royal Rumble match
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defending against Asuka
  • Universal Champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt defending against Daniel Bryan in a strap match
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defending against Lacey Evans
  • Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin in a falls count anywhere match
  • Sheamus vs. Shorty G

Kane appearance, Banks vs. Evans announced for WWE SmackDown

Kane will be making a special appearance on SmackDown this Friday, while a match that was originally set for last week has been announced once again for this week.

WWE Backstage tonight announced that Kane will be making a special appearance on the program. He hasn’t been seen on WWE television since September 16, when he made a surprise appearance on Raw both as Knox County, Tennessee mayor Glenn Jacobs and as Kane. During the closing moments of the program, The Fiend Bray Wyatt attacked Kane to close out the show.

A match between Sasha Banks and Lacey Evans has also been announced for this Friday’s show. The two were originally scheduled to wrestle last week, but the match never happened as Bayley explained on the titantron that Banks wouldn’t be there as she was working on her upcoming album.

Evans stormed backstage looking for Bayley but Bayley jumped her from behind. Evans came back and went for the woman’s right, but Bayley was able to escape.

SmackDown this week will be at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Sasha Banks and Lacey Evans are set to face off on next week’s SmackDown.

After they took part in a triple threat tag match on tonight’s show, WWE announced that Banks vs. Evans will take place next Friday. The Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana is hosting the episode.

Evans & Brooke defeated Banks & SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross in tonight’s triple threat tag match. Evans hit the Woman’s Right on Banks, then Brooke pinned Banks after hitting a Swanton Bomb from the top rope.

There was an angle on SmackDown two weeks ago where — as Banks was facing Evans — Banks taunted Evans’ daughter as she was sitting in the front row.

Banks & Bayley defeated Evans & Brooke last week. Evans hit Bayley with the Woman’s Right after Banks ducked out of the way in that match. Banks then sent Evans shoulder-first into the ring post and got the win by submitting Brooke with the Banks Statement.

There are three episodes of SmackDown left before the Royal Rumble. WWE hasn’t announced a title defense for Bayley for the pay-per-view yet.

Triple threat tag match announced for WWE SmackDown

A triple threat tag match is set for the first SmackDown of 2020.

WWE has announced SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. Lacey Evans & Dana Brooke for tonight’s SmackDown. This is the first match announced for the show.

After Banks taunted Evans’ daughter the week before, Evans appeared on A Moment of Bliss with Bliss and Cross last Friday. Evans and Brooke then teamed together against Bayley & Banks. Evans hit Bayley with the Woman’s Right after Banks ducked out of the way. Banks sent Evans shoulder-first into the ring post, then got the win by submitting Brooke with the Banks Statement.

Tonight’s SmackDown is taking place at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. WWE will follow up on Daniel Bryan defeating The Miz and Baron Corbin in last week’s number one contender’s triple threat match. Bryan will challenge “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble on January 26.

Moment of Bliss segment announced for WWE SmackDown

Lacey Evans’ feud with Bayley and Sasha Banks will continue on tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

WWE has announced that Evans will be Alexa Bliss’ guest on A Moment of Bliss on tonight’s show. Evans will “address her recent hostilities with Sasha Banks and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley” on the talk show segment.

Evans vs. Banks took place on SmackDown last week, but the match ended in a double countout after Banks taunted Evans in front of her daughter and husband as they were sitting in the front row.

Bayley had defeated Dana Brooke in a non-title match before Evans faced Banks last week.

The Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan is hosting tonight’s SmackDown. The show is airing live and will feature a triple threat number one contender’s match between Daniel Bryan, The Miz, and Baron Corbin. The winner of Bryan vs. Miz vs. Corbin will challenge for “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt’s Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble.

Lacey Evans joins Team SmackDown for WWE Survivor Series

Four of the five members of SmackDown’s Survivor Series women’s division team have now been revealed.

WWE announced today that Lacey Evans has been added to Team SmackDown for their triple threat elimination tag match against Team Raw and Team NXT at Survivor Series. Sasha Banks, Carmella, and Dana Brooke will also be on Team SmackDown.

Banks is the captain of the team. WWE has yet to announce any of the team members for Raw or NXT.

First women’s match in Saudi Arabia set for WWE Crown Jewel

The fourth show in WWE’s partnership with Saudi Arabia will include the first women’s match in the country.

At a media event today, WWE announced that Natalya vs. Lacey Evans will take place at Crown Jewel this Thursday (October 31). The show is being held at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh and will air live on the WWE Network. The pre-show begins at noon Eastern time, with the main card starting an hour later.

Natalya tweeted about the announcement: “The world will be watching. I am so incredibly proud to represent our women’s division tomorrow night at #WWECrownJewel. It’s time to bring your best, Lacey.”

Natalya and Evans had been pictured among the talent that traveled to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel.

Natalya and Alexa Bliss went to Saudi Arabia in hopes of having a match at Super ShowDown this June, but the match ultimately wasn’t approved by the Saudi Arabian government.

WWE’s 10-year deal with the Saudi General Sports Authority began with the Greatest Royal Rumble in April 2018. After the show, the General Sports Authority apologized for an “indecent” advertisement that aired and included women in their wrestling gear.

Last woman standing match announced for WWE Raw

After facing each other on the Hell in a Cell pre-show, Natalya and Lacey Evans are set for a stipulation match on tomorrow’s episode of Raw.

WWE has announced Natalya vs. Evans in a last woman standing match for tomorrow’s show. It comes after Natalya defeated Evans tonight.

Natalya submitted Evans with the Sharpshooter on tonight’s pre-show. After the match, Natalya laid out Evans with a punch.

The post-match angle was retribution for Evans doing the same thing after defeating Natalya on last Monday’s Raw.

The Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, California is hosting tomorrow’s show. It’s the last episode of Raw before the WWE Draft begins on SmackDown this Friday. Night two of the draft will then take place on the October 14 edition of Raw.

An appearance by boxing star Tyson Fury has also been announced for tomorrow’s Raw, with WWE hyping that they’re offering him an open microphone. This past Friday, Fury appeared on SmackDown’s FOX premiere and got into a confrontation with Braun Strowman.

WWE’s Lacey Evans, Canadian police comment on Edmonton traffic stop

After Lacey Evans’ video clip of a Canadian traffic stop went viral, both she and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have offered their side as to what happened.

Evans (real name Macey Estrella-Kadlec) posted a video where she was pulled over by RCMP in Edmonton where WWE was in town for a Saturday house show. In the clip, the officer is trying to explain the ticket after giving her license back and Evans, jumping into character, asked him if he knew who she was. He said he didn’t know and asked, “Who’s Lacey Evans?” when she said her name. She grabbed the ticket and said she’d pay for it, adding “Canada is terrible”.

As of Monday afternoon, the video had been viewed more than 2.1 million times.

Evans released a statement on Twitter Monday morning, saying that as a U.S. Marine, she doesn’t condone, agree, or promote disrespecting law enforcement officials or making their jobs harder and that the video was created by “both parties” to promote the live show, signing the statement “Sgt. Estrella”.

She also released a statement to CTV News in Edmonton: “My character is a sassy bad guy so I play the role often. The general public now believe this interaction was real when the officer and I planned to start recording and have him walk up again with the citation in hand. As prior law enforcement myself, I didn’t expect people to honestly believe this was real considering I am an entertainer and was in town for a performance.”

However, in a statement from RCMP Corporal Chris Warren to CTV News, the traffic stop was legitimate and wasn’t staged: “That’s news to me. I know the original traffic stop was legitimate and I don’t have any further information at this time.”
