Ilja Dragunov & Carmelo Hayes to appear on WWE NXT Halloween Havoc night one

On NXT tonight, we’ll hear from Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes ahead of their upcoming title bout.

Tonight’s NXT is week one of Halloween Havoc 2023. Dragunov is defending the NXT Championship against Hayes on week two next Tuesday, which is Halloween night.

WWE has announced that Dragunov and Hayes will speak on tonight’s show.

Vic Joseph wrote: “I had a chance to sit with [Hayes] and [Dragunov] – TONIGHT hear exclusive comments from both ahead the NXT Championship Match next week on #WWENXT #HalloweenHavoc”

Dragunov’s NXT Championship reign began with a victory over Hayes at No Mercy this September. Hayes earned the rematch by defeating Baron Corbin and Dijak in a triple threat match on NXT last Tuesday.

That triple threat match was supposed to be a fatal four-way with Trick Williams also included, but there was an angle on the show where Williams was laid out by a mystery attacker backstage. Before the attack, there was dissension between Hayes and Williams over them both going after the NXT Championship.

WWE has announced that Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James in a Devil’s Playground match will open Halloween Havoc week one tonight. Here’s everything that’s been announced for the episode:

  • NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Lyra Valkyria
  • NXT Tag Team Champions Tony D’Angelo & Stacks defend against Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson)
  • Lights Out match: Gigi Dolin vs. Blair Davenport
  • Lexis King (Brian Pillman Jr.) makes his NXT in-ring debut
  • NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament semifinals: Lola Vice vs. Karmen Petrovic
  • NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament semifinals: Arianna Grace vs. Kelani Jordan
  • We’ll hear from NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes
  • Devil’s Playground match: Roxanne Perez vs. Kiana James

Ilja Dragunov: NXT vs. AEW head-to-head was ‘historical, inspirational day at work’

WWE NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov will be defending his gold at night two of NXT Halloween Havoc (Tuesday, October 31) against former champion Carmelo Hayes in a trilogy bout.

The two men are no strangers having competed twice already before. Their first encounter took place at the NXT Great American Bash where Hayes successfully retained his title. However, the title changed hands the second time they met at NXT No Mercy.

I caught with the champion this week which you can watch above on YouTube.

Here’s some key quotes:

Winning the NXT Championship

“This feeling is beyond words to be honest. It feels like my destiny is fulfilled. It feels like the right things came into the right place. I am at the perfect mental state right now, the perfect shape right now, I am the best I have ever been. So there’s no reason for me to stop, everything that I want to do is a create a reign, that pushes this brand — NXT — to the next level.”

The Carmelo trilogy

Both the Great American Bash and No Mercy bouts between Dragunov and Hayes were rated ****3/4 stars by our own Dave Meltzer.

Dragunov explained that what made those performances “absolutely special” was the investment from the fans, and that both he and Hayes pushed themselves to another level.

“We created something that really pushes this championship. It shows how important this is. We presented a fight. We presented something that pushes things to the next level, because we both wanted to be champion, and we wanted to push things to the next level. Only one of us could survive. I was the one who survived.”

Dragunov said he wasn’t surprised by the in-ring chemistry he shares with Hayes, given that he was one of the guys he has wanted to wrestle for a while.

“I remember the first time I met him was back when I wrestled Gunther and won the NXT UK Championship. I knew that this guy at the moment was probably at the finals of the Breakout Tournament and you could already feel at this moment that he has a certain aura about him. Only a few people have a certain aura about them right at the start of their WWE careers. The way he progressed, the way he made a name for himself, the way he presented himself in all his performances. He was a person I wanted to wrestle for a long time and create something memorable with for a very a long time.”

NXT pride

NXT had a massive show two weeks ago, stacking up heavily as they competed with AEW that same night. Fans saw Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Paul Heyman and the Undertaker. Dragunov spoke about how special that day was and what it was like behind the scenes.

“…The vibe was very very interesting because everybody felt that there is something historical happening on this day. The people on this brand put so much hard work so we’re like creating the best versions of ourselves every single time on TV, getting the attention of the people. And those icons of the business coming to this iconic show, pushing everything to the next level, I think everybody just gets more hungrier for this because we see what’s possible. We see what we can achieve together. We can reach our fullest potential, and the whole day just being around people, these people with amounts of pure knowledge, it was a historical, inspirational day at work for the entire brand.”

NXT Championship match set for Halloween Havoc night two

Carmelo Hayes is getting another shot at the NXT Championship.

Hayes defeated Baron Corbin and Dijak in a three-way on Tuesday’s NXT to become the new number one contender for the NXT Championship. After Corbin hit the End of Days on Dijak, Hayes connected with Nothing But Net on Corbin and pinned Dijak to win the match.

A show-long storyline on Tuesday revealed that Cody Rhodes had made one final decision when he was guest GM of NXT last week: he added Trick Williams into the three-way match, making it a fatal four-way match. When Hayes heard the news, he was upset and confronted Williams about it backstage. The two made amends, but Williams was later found laid out backstage. It was later announced that Williams had been taken out of the match and sent to a local hospital.

Also on Tuesday’s show, Mr. Stone challenged Bron Breakker to a match after Stone confronted Breakker about attacking Von Wagner last month, causing him to undergo rehab. However, that match wasn’t confirmed for either show.

Here is the lineup so far for NXT Halloween Havoc night two:

  • NXT Championship: Ilja Dragunov defends against Carmelo Hayes

Ilja Dragunov wins NXT Championship at No Mercy

NXT has entered into the Ilja Dragunov era.

The NXT Championship changed hands with Dragunov defeating Carmelo Hayes at No Mercy on Saturday night. Dragunov pinned Hayes after delivering a super H-Bomb from the top rope. Dragunov then showed respect to Hayes following the intense and hard-hitting match. He helped Hayes to his feet and the two embraced after Dragunov offered a handshake.

Hayes’ reign as NXT Champion lasted nearly six months. He won the title from Bron Breakker this April.

This was Dragunov’s second time challenging Hayes for the championship. At Great American Bash, Dragunov was unsuccessful in his first attempt to defeat Hayes. Dragunov blamed Trick Williams for that loss.

Williams wasn’t at ringside for Hayes vs. Dragunov at No Mercy. Earlier in the show, Williams won the NXT North American Championship by defeating Dominik Mysterio. During a backstage segment after losing to Dragunov, Hayes appeared to briefly have his eyes on Williams’ North American title belt.

Dragunov became the number one contender to the NXT Championship with a victory over Wes Lee on NXT earlier this month.

When Dragunov was in NXT UK, he held the NXT United Kingdom Championship one time. This is his first reign as NXT Champion.

NXT Championship match official for No Mercy

Ilja Dragunov will challenge Carmelo Hayes once again.

Dragunov defeated Wes Lee to open Tuesday’s NXT in a match that determined the new number one contender for the NXT Championship. The finish came when Dragunov pinned Lee after he connected with an elbow to the back of the head. This will be the second title match between the two, with Hayes managing to score the win at The Great American Bash back on July 30.

After his loss, Lee was shown exiting the WWE Performance Center saying “I’m done”.

Bron Breakker will meet Baron Corbin after the two had an exchange on NXT. Corbin called out Breakker to congratulate him on what he did to Von Wagner last week, smashing the steel steps into his head. Breakker told Corbin that he didn’t do it for his approval. The two got confrontational before Corbin slapped Breakker, and eventually both had to be pulled apart by security.

Here is the updated card for NXT No Mercy on September 30:

  • NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes defends against Ilja Dragunov
  • NXT North American Championship: Dominik Mysterio defends against Mustafa Ali
  • NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar defends against Global Heritage Invitational Tournament winner
  • Baron Corbin vs. Bron Breakker

Ilja Dragunov ‘not in a rush’ to be called up to WWE main roster

Ilja Dragunov isn’t in a rush to be called up to the WWE main roster.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Dragunov was asked if he wants to spend more time in NXT or if he’d like to be called up tomorrow. Dragunov said staying in NXT for a while wouldn’t make him unhappy because he’s not in a rush to be called up. Dragunov has enjoyed his journey and likes the surprise of not knowing everything that’s coming.

Dragunov said:

That’s a good question, and I get these questions often in interviews and this is always about having a specific goal. I have no opinion on this. So on the other side, I would say if I would stay in NXT for a while, it’s nothing that makes me unhappy because I’m not in a rush. I’ve entirely enjoyed the journey. I’m entirely enjoying not always to know everything and just see everything in front of me, being surprised, being challenged. Like, the surprise of life in all this journey is the most precious thing to me. Because if I could know everything, it would just be like goal after goal after goal. That’s not what art is all about. This business is performance art. And I’m an artist 100 percent.

Dragunov is facing Wes Lee in a number one contender’s match on NXT tonight (September 12). The winner will challenge Carmelo Hayes for the NXT Championship at NXT No Mercy on Saturday, September 30.

Dragunov has already faced Hayes for the NXT Championship once. In the main event of NXT Great American Bash this July, Hayes defeated Dragunov to retain the title.

Before becoming a member of the NXT roster, Dragunov was in NXT UK and held the NXT United Kingdom Championship one time.

Number one contender’s match announced for next week’s WWE NXT

A match to determine the number one contender for the NXT Championship will take place next Tuesday.

Wes Lee confronted Ilja Dragunov on Tuesday’s show after Dragunov defeated Oro Mensah. They argued over who should be the next person to challenge NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes This brought out Hayes who said he talked to Shawn Micheals and set up a number one contender’s match for next week. The winner of the match between Dragunov and Lee will earn a title match at NXT No Mercy later this month.

Two Global Heritage Cup matches will also take place. Tyler Bate will face Axiom, while Akira Tozawa will face Nathan Frazer.

The Creed Brothers, who won their reinstatement against The Dyad, will take on Edris Enofe and Malik Blade. In a show-long storyline, The Creeds invited all of the tag division to their dojo, which ended with all of the teams getting into a brawl.

Here is the updated card for next week’s NXT:

  • NXT Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton defends against Becky Lynch
  • NXT Championship number one contender’s match: Wes Lee vs. Ilja Dragunov
  • Global Heritage Invitational: Tyler Bate vs. Axiom
  • Global Heritage Invitational: Akria Tozawa vs. Nathan Frazer
  • Creed Brothers vs. Edris Enofe and Malik Blade

Ilja Dragunov vs. Trick Williams set for WWE NXT Heatwave

Ilja Dragunov and Trick Williams will meet in two weeks.

A match between Dragunov and Williams was made on Tuesday’s NXT. The two will meet on a special edition of NXT called Heatwave, which will take place in two weeks on August 22. Additionally, Noam Dar will meet Nathan Frazer in a match for the NXT Heritage Cup trophy.

On last week’s NXT, Williams told Carmelo Hayes that he was going to do his own thing and go after Dragunov. On this week’s show, Dragunov called out Williams and the two had a back-and-forth promo. Eventually, they set up their match for Heatwave.

Tuesday’s show also saw Tyler Bate defeat Noam Dar for the fake Heritage Cup trophy that the Meta-Four have introduced in recent weeks. In a backstage interview, Dar pleaded with Bate to give him back the trophy. Frazer arrived and told Dar he would make a deal with him where he would grant Dar a match for the real trophy if he admitted his trophy was fake. Dar eventually admitted that Fraszer held the original title that Oro Mensah lost on his behalf.

Here is the current lineup for Heatwave:

  • Ilja Dragunov vs. Trick Williams
  • NXT Heritage Cup: Nathan Fraszer defends against Noam Dar

WWE NXT Great American Bash live results: Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov title match

The pre-show will feature an eight-person tag between Dragon Lee, Nathan Frazer, Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz vs. Meta-Four.

**********

The kickoff show is underway. From a studio is Matt Camp, Megan Morant and Sam Roberts as co-hosts on a pre-show panel. They hype begins from the start.

McKenzie Mitchell goes to interview Dominik Mysterio in his locker room at the building near Austin, but she instead encounters WWE World Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley. She says whatever Mitchell wanted to ask Dom, she can ask “Mami.”

Ripley says Dom is “cool, calm, and collected” despite being outnumbered in the triple threat match. Ripley says Judgment Day always has a plan. Ripley then concludes the interview with some sexual innuendo about her and Dom.

In a clip from yesterday, Roxanne Perez is at Dream Con in Austin when she is confronted by Blair Davenport. A shoving match turns into a pull-apart brawl, as part of an angle shot at the convention.

Baron Corbin in a backstage interview sits down with McKenzie Mitchell ahead of Corbin’s match tonight against Gable Steveson. Corbin is going to take the will to succeed as a WWE superstar from Steveson. Corbin goes on to say he will “dominate and bury a second Gold Medalist” (alluding to a prior match against Kurt Angle).

Opening the show live from the HEB Center in Cedar Park, TX is a mixed eight-person tag team match. Vic Josep

Dragon Lee, Nathan Frazer, Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz defeated Meta-Four (Noam Dar, Oro Mensah, Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend)

Dragon Lee pinned Mensah to win the match. The men faced the men and the women vice versa for the most part, but they did some mixed spots. Lots of great action from at times in a decent enough opener. The crowd was rather hot for the finish.

The main card opens clips of Dusty Rhodes, who is credited with creating concept of The Great American Bash in the late 1980s as part of Jim Crockett Promotions. Cody Rhodes narrates the opening video package, which leads into hype for tonight’s card.

The Family (Tony D’Angelo & Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo) defeated NXT Tag Team Champions Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang with Joe Coffey) to win the titles

D’Angelo pinned Wolfgang to win the titles. Good way to start the main card, and the crowd was into the match.

There was a really good near fall when The Family did the old Power & Glory tag team finisher from the early ’90s. In doing that, Tony D executes a superplex before Stacks jumps off the top rope with a splash. The subsequent spinning attempt was broken up.

Joe Coffey gets involved and hands Wolfgang a club, but it was a red herring to distract the referee. That leads another near fall where the pin is broken up. Moments later, Tony D uses a crowbar to hit Joe Coffey when he tries to interfere.

Stacks is hiplocked over the top rope by Tony D into a dive on the outside. Back in the ring, Bada Bing finisher on Wolfgang, and Tony D covers Wolfgang for the pinfall. The Family are the new tag champs.

Roxanne Perez defeated Blair Davenport in a Weapons Wild match

Perez pinned Davenport, in what was a grudge match filled with weapons and mayhem.

During her entrance, Perez is walking around ringside. Perez hugs her sister and mom in the front row. She is then suddenly ambushed by Davenport, who was in the front row wearing a hoodie pulled over her head. The sneak attack backfires as Perez fires up on Davenport.

They brawled early and often. Weapons come into play like metal folding chairs and trash cans, among other plunder. Davenport cuts off Perez with a shot from a trash can. Davenport is pummeling Perez at ringside when Davenport pulls out a branding iron to use as a weapon, since they are in Texas of course. Chairs are piled up in the ring, and trash cans litter the canvas.

Davenport taunts the family members at ringside while pummeling Perez. Perez fires up on Davenport using a bullrope as a weapon. Davenport is also whipped with a belt that she had earlier used against Perez.

Huge pop from the live crowd when Perez got a table from underneath the ring. It would later come into play, when Perez jumps off the top rope to spash Davenport through the table. They do the spot right in front of Perez’s family.

Davenport twice countered Pop Rocks. Perez takes a bump that crushed a trash can when she is suplexed on it. After the table spot, Perez does the Pop Rocks. Davenport takes the finisher on a pile of folded chairs, and Perez covers Davenport for a three count.

Gable Steveson vs. Baron Corbin ends in a double countout

Decent match for Steveson’s in-ring debut, but the finish was beyond lame. Steveson got over like a fart in church. The crowd even cheered Corbin, which should say a lot. A post-match brawl seems to indicate a return bout in future.

Corbin has new gear and new music. The music was not much of an improvement, but his gear looks nice. Steveson wore a gold medal during his entrance, and his gear is a traditional wrestling singlet.

Steveson gets to shine early on, before Corbin cuts him off and begins to work him over. Corbin dashes some hope spots when Steveson fights back. Corbin taunts Steveson, and that fires up Steveson.

Comeback by Steveson. Corbin baited him into following him outside, and Corbin cuts off Steveson. They brawl around ringside, and both are counted out. The crowd chants “bullshit” as a pull-apart brawl develops.

The brawling continues as they tumble over the announce desk. Referees pour out to separate them, but Corbin and Steveson keep brawling. Security geeks poured out to join the pull-apart brawl, and the security team is mowed down by Steveson and Corbin. Steveson sends Corbin crashing through a gimmicked section of barricade, and Steveson stands tall.

Lyra Valkyria is being interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell when Valkyria is ambushed by Jacy Jayne. Rhea Ripley walks by and remarks that was what she was looking for from Valkyria, as Valkyria and Jayne brawl.

NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio (with WWE World Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley) defeated Wes Lee and Mustafa Ali to retain the title in a triple threat match

Mysterio pinned Lee to win what was a really good match. They played to each other’s strengths, and Dom is really over as a character.

Dom tries to powder early on, but he is surrounded by Ali and Lee. They chase Mysterio and they double team him. That partnership falls apart as they again turn on each other, much like they did in the storyline heading into this bout.

Ali and Lee face off while Dom is selling on the outside. An opportunist, Myserio jumps back into the ring to shove Ali and Lee off the ropes. They tumble to the floor. Dom goes for the Three Amigos, but that backfires when he tries to suplex both Ali and Lee at the same time. They counter him and they both suplex Mysterio for a double team version of the Three Amigos.

The highspots done by Ali and Lee show they could have a banger in a singles match. In a spot where both Mysertio and Lee are draped on the bottom rope. Ali climbs the turnbuckle. Ali then crashes and burns doing a 450 on the apron. That leaves Lee against Mysterio.

Ripley gets involved by demanding that Lee not do a dive, after he already done a dive. Responding to Ripley’s demands, Lee jumps over her into a dive to the outside. Ripley then executes a Riptide on Lee that puts him through the announce desk. Somehow, Lee is able to kick out after Ripley rolled him back into the ring.

More near falls just before they head home. Ripley tries to give Dom the North American title belt, but the referee intercepts it. That was a red herring much like we saw earlier in the tag title match. Mysterio then grabs the women’s title belt, and he hits Lee with a belt shot. Lee still manages to kick out.

Ali jumps back into the match when he dropkicks Mysterio off the turnbuckles. Ali follows up by executing a 450 splash on Lee, and Ali goes for a cover. Ripley pulls Ali out of the ring to break up the pinning attempt. Mysterio then does a frog splash, and he covers Lee for the deciding pinfall.

Trick Williams cuts a promo in a interview with McKenzie Mitchell, which hypes up the title match main event.

NXT Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton defeated Thea Hail (with Duke Hudson & Andre Chase) to retain the title in a submission match

Andre Chase throws in the towel on behalf of Hail, when Stratton had Hail trapped in a Boston crab.

Hail got a special entrance where the crowd was given Chase U banners to hold up. It helped make her look like a superstar. Stratton’s entrance spoofed Barbie, which is very over in pop culture at the moment.

They wrestled back-and-forth at the start, before Stratton begins working over Hail. Stratton works the back, as Hail is a babyface-in-peril. That plays into the submission stip as Stratton worked the back. Stratton applies holds that target the back.

Hail fights back, but her hope spot is dashed when Stratton catches her in a body scissors. Hail powers to her feet, and she begins a rally. The comeback leads to a dive by Hail. Stratton is sent crashing into the ringpost shoulder first. That would play into a spot moments later when Hail goes for a kimura. Stratton breaks up the attempted hold. Hail would later apply the kimura, but Stratton got a rope break.

They do a high spot off the top rope where Hail gives Stratton a super northern lights suplex. Stratton twice does her Prettiest Moonsault Ever, and she applies a Boston crab. Hail won’t tap, but she cannot escape the hold. Andre Chase eventually throws in the towel, and Stratton retains her title. Duke Hudson was in disbelief that Chase threw in the towel.

A backstage skit seemed to set up a match between Dragon Lee and Dominik Mysterio, or at least teased a bout between them.

Two matches announced for Tuesday on NXT includes Jacy Jayne against Lyra Valkyria. Also, Eddy Thorpe faces Dijak in singles match.

NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes (with Trick Williams) defeats Ilja Dragunov to retain the title

Hayes pinned Dragunov to retain his title. This was a great match and it was a hard-hitting bout. It was arguably the best match on the show.

Dragunov had red contacts in his eyes, as he was apparently “seeing red” as he headed into the match. That plays into the story of the match.

They wrestled back-and-forth taking and trading moves. Somewhere along the way, Dragunov starts to brutalize Hayes. Meanwhile, Williams keeps trying to motivate Hayes into a rally. Dragunov continues to pummel Hayes, and Hayes takes a ton of punishment. Nonetheless, Williams keep trying to motivate Hayes. Dragunov dashes some hope spots.

Comeback by Hayes, and he fires up on Dragunov. Hayes takes an enzuigiri, but he answers back with La Mistica. That popped the crowd and they are hot. Some receipts by Hayes as he peppers Dragunov with chops and strikes. They go on to trade strikes, and they trade stiff elbows.

Hayes springboards into a DDT for a near fall. That led to a “this is awesome” chant. Dragunov leaps off the top rope into a back senton for another near fall. Dragunov attempts to go coast-to-coast, but he is struck down in mid-air by a codebreaker from Hayes, in what was likely the wildest high spot on the show. “Holy s***” chants from the crowd.

Hayes goes to follows up with Nothing But Net, but Dragunov blocks it and powerbombs Hayes. Dragunov signals for a finisher, and he drops the flying forearm. Hayes somehow kicks out in the closest near fall of the match. Dragunov takes an avalanche cutter for another close near fall. Williams grabs the title match at ringside and he holds it up to help motivate Hayes, showing him what he is fighting for.

They fight on and trade strikes in a fighting spirit exchange. The fight then spilled outside the ring. Dragunov leaps off the ring steps and inadvertently wipes out Williams with Torpedo Moskau. In doing so, Dragunov apparently smashes into the title belt that Williams was holding, and Dragunov is on rubber legs. Hayes capitalizes with Nothing But Net, and Hayes covers Dragunov for a pinfall.

Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov set for WWE NXT Great American Bash

Ilja Dragunov is headed to the Great American Bash.

Dragunov defeated Bron Breakker on Tuesday’s show to become the new number one contender to Carmelo Hayes’ NXT Championship. Dragunov won after connecting with a sliding headbutt to the back of Breakkers’ head. Dragunov and Hayes will meet at the Great American Bash on July 30 in Cedar Park, Texas.

Later in the show, Dragunov prevented Damian Priest from using the Money in the Bank briefcase to attack Hayes. However it backfired, as Finn Balor was able to pin Hayes in a tag match that also had Trick Williams.

Another match set for the Great American Bash is Mustafa Ali vs. Wes Lee for the North American title. Wes Lee will defend the title next week against Dominik Mysterio, who challenged him on Tuesday’s show.

Here is the lineup so far for The Great American Bash:

  • NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes defends against Ilja Dragunov
  • NXT North American Championship: Wes Lee defends against Mustafa Ali

Bron Breakker vs. Ilja Dragunov added to WWE NXT

Last Man Standing match added to WWE NXT Battleground

A Last Man Standing match has been added to NXT Battleground.

Ilja Dragunov will battle Dijak on May 28 in Lowell, Massachusetts. The two have been feuding for the last several weeks, with Dijak at one point jumping Dragunov backstage, pinning him down on top of a sliding door as he attacked him.

On Tuesday’s NXT, Dragunov walked up to Dijak and dared Dijak to “break him”. Throughout the show, Dijak was seen torturing Dragunov. Despite the torture, a battered and bruised Dragunov was still defiant, telling Dijak that he was “not even close” when asked if he had enough. The last vignette shown on Tuesday had Dragunov telling Dijak that he was still standing.

Here is the updated lineup for NXT Battleground:

  • NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker
  • NXT Women’s Championship finals: Tiffany Stratton or Roxanne Perez vs. Lyra Valkyria or Cora Jade

Three participants set for North American title match at WWE NXT Stand & Deliver

The first participants for the North American Championship match at Stand and Deliver have been revealed.

Dragon Lee, Ilja Dragunov, and JD McDonagh have been added to the five-way match that will take place on the April 1 event. The final participant will be decided in a battle royal that will be held on next week’s NXT.

Dragon Lee interrupted a Wes Lee promo on Tuesday’s show, saying he wanted to be the first one to call his shot. Lee agreed, officially putting Lee in the match. JD McDonagh came out and confronted Lee, saying if he was interested in his title, he wouldn’t be left standing. McDonagh proceded to have his match with Dragunov, which ended when McDonagh accidentally attacked Dragon Lee, who was sitting at ringside. It soon turned into a brawl, with Wes Lee wiping everyone out with a dive to the floor.

Two matches added to Stand and Deliver include a three-way NXT Tag Team title match between champions Gallus, The Creed Brothers, and Tony D’Angelo & Stacks. The Creeds were first to challenge Gallus, and after a game of pool the champions agreed. Later, after some more partying at the bar, Gallus also agreed to defend against D’Angelo & Stacks.

Another match will have The Schism (The Dyad, Joe Gacy, and Ava) against Chase U (Andre Chase, Thea Hail, and Duke Hudson) and Tyler Bate. The two groups held a debate on Wednesday’s show, with Chase U throwing out the challenge. Gacy dismissed the match at first, but became interested once Hudson offered to put up the school.

Here is the updated lineup for NXT Stand and Deliver:

  • NXT Championship: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Carmelo Hayes
  • NXT Women’s title ladder match: Zoey Stark vs. Gigi Dolin vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Lyra Valkyria
  • NXT Women’s Tag Team titles: Kiana James & Fallon Henley vs. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn
  • NXT North American title: Wes Lee vs. Dragon Lee vs. Ilja Dragunov vs. JD McDonagh vs. ???
  • NXT Tag Team titles: Gallus (c) vs. The Creed Brothers vs. Tony D’Angelo & Stacks
  • Winner gets the school: The Schism vs. Chase U & Tyler Bate
  • Johnny Gargano vs. Grayson Waller

Ilja Dragunov vs. JD McDonagh set for next week’s WWE NXT

A match between Ilja Dragunov and JD McDonagh is set for next week’s NXT.

On Tuesday’s show, the match was announced after the two had an altercation. Dragunov started the promo by saying he wanted to rid himself of McDonagh. This brought out McDonagh, who said that their feud will never end. Dragunov responded by saying that it will end next week after they face each other in the ring. The two ended up brawling around the ring, with security being able to do little as they brawled to the outside of the Performance Center.

Later, during Wes Lee’s North American title open challenge, Dragunov and McDonagh emerged and ended up continuing their brawl. The match was eventually thrown out after too many people were brawling around the ring, with NXT officials failing to restore order.

The two have been feuding in the last month, with McDonagh blaming Dragunov for his recent eye injury that kept him out of action.

The current lineup for next week’s NXT:

  • Ilja Dragunov vs. JD McDonagh
