New WWE NXT Battleground match added

A grudge match has been added to the May 25 WWE NXT Battleground lineup.

Former allies Tony D’Angelo and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo will go one-on-one at the Battleground PLE as announced during Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode.

Lorenzo turned on D’Angelo last month at Stand & Deliver, costing The Family their matchup against DarkState. A storyline has played out on the weekly NXT TV shows since with Lorenzo threatening D’Angelo and Adriana Rizzo, with Rizzo going into a safe house.

On this week’s show, Lorenzo teased that he had found the safe house and was threatening to attack Rizzo. D’Angelo went to make the save, but Lorenzo laid him out, with their Battleground match officially announced later in the evening.

Four matches are official for the Sunday, May 25 event in Tampa, Florida. The show will go head-to-head with AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. The lineup for Battleground:

WWE NXT Battleground, Sunday, May 25, 8 p.m. Eastern time —

  • NXT Champion Oba Femi defends against Myles Borne
  • NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer defends against Jordynne Grace
  • TNA World Champion Joe Hendry defends against Trick Williams
  • Tony D’Angelo vs. Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo

Three title matches official for WWE NXT Battleground

The first matches are official for WWE NXT Battleground, all title bouts.

Myles Borne was victorious in the 25-man battle royal to decide the number one contender to the NXT Championship on Tuesday’s show, and will challenge Oba Femi for the NXT title at Battleground on Sunday, May 25.

Borne’s No Quarter Catch Crew teammate Charlie Dempsey attempted to take the title shot away from him by asserting his leadership in the NQCC, but Borne threw Dempsey under the bus in a backstage segment with the champ, and Borne will indeed get the Battleground title shot. Dempsey will face Femi in a non-title matchup on next week’s WWE NXT.

In Tuesday’s main event, Jordynne Grace defeated Giulia to become the number one contender to Stephanie Vaquer’s NXT Women’s Championship, and will challenge Vaquer at Battleground. Champion and challenger ended Tuesday’s episode with a faceoff in the ring.

The TNA World title will also be defended on an NXT PLE for the first time ever at Battleground, with Joe Hendry defending against Trick Williams. A contract signing for that match will take place on next week’s WWE NXT.

The Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida will host Battleground on Sunday, May 25. The lineup to this point:

WWE NXT Battleground, Saturday, May 25 —

  • NXT Champion Oba Femi defends against Myles Borne
  • NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer defends against Jordynne Grace
  • TNA World Champion Joe Hendry defends against Trick Williams

Two more spots have been filled for the six-pack ladder match to crown the inaugural WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion at Battleground.

Fallon Henley and Jaida Parker won their qualifying matches on Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode to advance to the six-pack ladder match set for Battleground on Sunday, June 9 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Henley defeated Thea Hail on Tuesday’s show to qualify, while Parker defeated Brinley Reece in her qualifying bout.

Parker and Henley join Lash Legend and Sol Ruca who qualified on last week’s show in the Battleground ladder match. Two spots remain open, with the final qualifying bouts set for next week’s WWE NXT episode. Kelani Jordan will face Wren Sinclair, plus Michin will take on Tatum Paxley in next week’s qualifiers.

Two wrestlers advance to WWE NXT Battleground ladder match

The first two competitors are set for the six-pack ladder match at WWE NXT Battleground to crown the inaugural Women’s North American Champion.

Lash Legend and Sol Ruca won their qualifying matches on Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode to advance to the title match at Battleground set for Sunday, June 9.

Legend scored a victory over Ivy Nile on Tuesday’s show, while Ruca defeated Izzi Dame to secure a spot at Battleground.

Qualifying matches will continue on next week’s show to determine two more participants for the Battleground ladder match, with Jaida Parker facing Brinley Reece, plus Thea Hail taking on Fallon Henley.

The 12 competitors competing in the qualifying bouts were determined by an NXT Combine that aired on last Tuesday’s episode.

A second bout was confirmed for Battleground on Tuesday’s show, with Men’s North American Champion Oba Femi set to defend his title against the winner of a triple threat number one contender’s match that will take place on next Tuesday’s WWE NXT show featuring Ivar vs. Josh Briggs vs. Wes Lee.

WWE NXT to crown first Women’s North American Champion at Battleground

WWE NXT will crown the first-ever Women’s North American Champion in a ladder match at Battleground on June 9.

NXT GM Ava announced during this week’s NXT episode that the inaugural Women’s North American Champion will be decided in a ladder match at the Battleground PLE on Sunday, June 9 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

A combine will be held on the May 7 NXT episode to narrow the field of potential participants to 12, with the top combine finishers then facing off in six singles qualifying matches on future episodes of NXT TV.

The winners of the qualifying matches will then compete in the ladder match to determine the first Women’s North American Champion.

WWE originally announced the introduction of the new North American title at Stand & Deliver on WrestleMania weekend.

Main roster star Michin was one of the competitors who declared for the combine during Tuesday’s NXT episode in an in-ring promo. Michin, Jaida Parker, Sol Ruca, and Arianna Grace were the featured stars in the promo segment, which eventually devolved into a brawl featuring a large portion of the NXT women’s roster.

New Women’s Champion crowned at WWE NXT Battleground

Tiffany Stratton has won the first championship of her professional wrestling career.

Sunday night’s Battleground event saw Stratton defeat Lyra Valkyria to be crowned the new NXT Women’s Champion. The match was the finals of a tournament to decide the new title holder.

Valkyria entered Battleground with a storyline knee injury following a kendo stick attack by Cora Jade on NXT last Tuesday. Valkyria’s knee caused her issues throughout the match.

To win the championship, Stratton connected with her Prettiest Moonsault Ever and pinned Valkyria.

Valkyria had been able to avoid the Prettiest Moonsault Ever the first time Stratton went for it. Valkyria then hit a roundhouse kick and appeared to have the match won, but Stratton managed to get her foot on the bottom rope.

The NXT Women’s Championship was vacated by Indi Hartwell earlier this month. Hartwell is now a member of the Raw roster after being called up in the WWE Draft.

In the tournament, Stratton defeated Gigi Dolin in the first round and Roxanne Perez in the semifinals. Valkyria defeated Kiana James and Jade in her first and second round matches.

Last Man Standing match added to WWE NXT Battleground

A Last Man Standing match has been added to NXT Battleground.

Ilja Dragunov will battle Dijak on May 28 in Lowell, Massachusetts. The two have been feuding for the last several weeks, with Dijak at one point jumping Dragunov backstage, pinning him down on top of a sliding door as he attacked him.

On Tuesday’s NXT, Dragunov walked up to Dijak and dared Dijak to “break him”. Throughout the show, Dijak was seen torturing Dragunov. Despite the torture, a battered and bruised Dragunov was still defiant, telling Dijak that he was “not even close” when asked if he had enough. The last vignette shown on Tuesday had Dragunov telling Dijak that he was still standing.

Here is the updated lineup for NXT Battleground:

  • NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker
  • NXT Women’s Championship finals: Tiffany Stratton or Roxanne Perez vs. Lyra Valkyria or Cora Jade
  • NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee
  • NXT North American Championship: Wes Lee (c) vs. Tyler Bate vs. Joe Gacy
  • Last Man Standing: Ilja Dragunov vs. Dijak
