New champion crowned at WWE NXT No Mercy

A new NXT Champion has been crowned.

Ricky Saints ended up being the person to topple Oba Femi at Saturday’s No Mercy premium live event, defeating The Ruler of NXT to win the NXT Championship for the first time. The finish came when Starks kicked out of Femi’s fall from grace powerbomb. Femi went for the move a second time, but Saints cut off Femi with a DDT. He then followed with a tornado DDT to win the match and the championship.

NXT No Mercy closed with Saints celebrating with the championship.

Femi had held the title for most of 2025, winning it from Trick Williams back at NXT New Year’s Evil on January 7.

Saints started making his claim for the NXT Championship following Heatwave, which saw Femi retain against Je’Von Evans. However, the last few weeks had seen Femi confront former foe Williams, leading to a TNA title vs. NXT title match on this past Tuesday’s NXT. No winner emerged after the NXT and TNA locker rooms emptied leading to an interpromotional brawl. Saints had his focus on the NXT title, but Femi emerged and the two had a staredown in the closing moments of the program.

WWE NXT No Mercy live results: Oba Femi vs. Ricky Saints title match

WWE NXT holds its latest premium live event with tonight’s No Mercy from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In the main event, WWE NXT Champion Oba Femi defends against former North American Champion Ricky Saints. Femi has defended the title ten times since winning it in January while this is Saints’ first shot at the top prize.

NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne puts her title on the line against Lola Vice who is looking for her first title run.

In a weaponized steel cage match, the rivalry between Jordynne Grace and Blake Monroe will continue.

The men’s NXT North American Championship will be on the line as Ethan Page defends against Tavion Heights while WWE Women’s Speed Champion Sol Ruca defends against Lainey Reid.

The show is rounded out by Josh Briggs vs. Je’Von Evans, fresh off challenging WWE U.S. Champion Sami Zayn on SmackDown.

Our live coverage begins with the pre-show at 6 PM Eastern.

**********

Welcome in friends and I have some great news! All the wrestlers working tonight made it to work OK and I know this because camera crew met them at the door as is legally mandated and the footage was shown to open NXT No Mercy!

Je’Von Evans vs. Josh Briggs

The show kicked off with one of my personal NXT favourites, Evans taking on Josh Briggs. What I know about Briggs is this: he’s a bad friend and has a Green Lantern tattoo. Aside from that though, Briggs had a definite size advantage over Evans, but Evans fought Oba Femi to a standstill at Heatwave, so he can bring it with the biggest of them.

Evans opened the match by kicking Briggs square in the face and punching him repeatedly. That upset Briggs, who grabbed Evans a threw him over the ropes. Briggs went to charge Evans, but he moved and Briggs ended up hitting the steel steps.

Back in the ring, Evans had Briggs on his heels, hitting high-flying moves and hurricanranas. Once Briggs got himself back together though, he grabbed Evans and threw him into the corner a few times. He then stood on Evans, working his heels into the small of his back.

Evans was favouring his hip during this mask due to an attack from Briggs on Smackdown last night. Briggs worked this with a series of backbreakers. Evans flopped like wet spaghetti, but managed to get to his feet. Briggs continued the assault with a few more throws into the corner.

Evans began fighting back, but Briggs overpowered him again. Evans tried to use the ropes to springboard but Briggs got to him first and sent him flying off the apron into the barricade, further injuring that hip.

Back in the ring, Briggs hit a side slam but whiffed on the splash afterwards. He began stomping Evans, but then stopped to mug for the crowd. Evans got to his feet and they began throwing hands, with Evans turning it into a snap suplex.

Evans tried a couple of lariats to get Briggs off his feet and the third one connected. Evans hit a series of spinning heel kicks and sent Briggs reeling into the corner. Evans brought the scrap from there, raining down punches on Briggs. He then went up top, but Briggs saw it coming and rolled out of the ring.

Evans changed his aim and hit a big dive anyways. Tossing Briggs back into the ring, Evans hit a frog splash from clear across the ring and got a 2.5 count before Briggs kicked out.

Briggs began clubbing Evans, including a huge lariat that flipped Evans clear over. Evans came back with a bunch of flying forearms and Briggs nailed a big boot to keep the back and forth going. Briggs hit a flipping knee and tried for a cover but only got a two count.

Briggs pulled Evans into the corner and went to climb to the top turnbuckle. He dragged Evans up with him and tried for a chokeslam, but Evans flipped right over it and sent Briggs to the mat. He kicked him in the face and went for a spingboard, but Briggs caught him with a chokeslam.

Briggs charged Evans who pulled the rope down and dove after him. Briggs caught him in midair with a lariat, then put him back in the ring for another one. It was almost a three count, but Evans got his foot on the rope and the ref called it off.

Briggs tried to go up top again, but Evans grabbed his ankle and began slapping him. Briggs went to chokeslam Evans again, but Evans turned it into a cutter and went up top for another fast frog splash. That got to Briggs and Evans made the pin, 1-2-3.

Match Result: Je’Von Evans defeated Josh Briggs

Great opening match. It was fast-paced and went as long as it needed to. Briggs has real potential as a Kevin-Nash style big man and Evans is the best underdog since Sami Zayn. Good stuff all around.

-Footage was shown of Trick Williams beating up Dominick Mysterio in a match for the North American Title at No Mercy 2024. Dragon Lee was the ref. Trick won. I have no idea why they showed this. (EDIT: Later I figured out they were showing these during international commercial breaks. I’m smart that way.)

They then showed some footage of the TNA incursion (we don’t say “invasion” in WWE. Too many bad memories) of NXT last Tuesday, which made more sense. Footage was also shown of Kelani Jordan winning the TNA Knockouts title at Victory Road last night.

Women’s Speed Championship Match: Sol Ruca (c) vs. Jaida Parker

Lainey Reed was originally scheduled for this match, but declared not medically cleared earlier today. Ruca wanted to defend the title anyway, so NXT GM Ava found a new opponent in Jaida Parker.

For those that don’t remember or couldn’t bring themselves to download X, the Speed titles were created as an X-exclusive title. The matches would be released on X and they were subject to a five-minute time limit. Now, once you get all the jokes about lasting long enough out of the way and put aside the horrible X promotion, it’s kind of a fun deal. So, it was great to hear that the titles would be moving to NXT after everyone realized the X was a cesspool of misery and broken dreams.

Ruca won the Women’s Speed title from the inaugural champion, Candice Le Rae April and this will be the first NXT defence of the title at a PLE. Incidentally, the Men’s speed title is currently held by El Grande Americano, who won it in May and it hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

The match started and the clock started ticking. The two traded quick pin attempts, and Ruca hung Parker up on the ropes before flipping her out of the ring. Parker tried to regroup, but Ruca dove off the steps onto her.

Ruca tossed Parker back into the ring, but Parker rolled back out. Ruca went for a baseball slide, but Parker caught her and hit her in the throat at 3:32.

Ruca hit a back stabber, but Parker recoverd and set Ruca up for some offense in the corner. She hit a falcon arrow, but Ruca kicked out at 2:47. Parker didn’t waist time and went for a tilt a whirl, but Ruca reversed it and planted a big knee in Parker’s chest.

Parker tried to go up the entrance ramp, but there was only two minutes left. Back in the ring, Ruca hit a DDT, but only got a two count at 1:43. They got to their feet and Parker caught Ruca in a Samoan drop. Ruca rolled out and pulled Parker with her at 1:03.

Ruca started wasting as much time as possible and went for another dive, but Parker dodoged it and threw her back into the ring. Lash Legend arrived and that distracted Parker before she rolled back into the ring just in time to get caught by Ruca for a pin. Ruca wins and retained the Speed Title with 0:11 on the clock.

Match Result: Sol Ruca defeated Jaida Parker

-Footage was shown from last week’s NXT of Joe Hendry being interviewed. He was interrupted by the DarkState who told him that they were going to give him a 4-on-1 beatdown if he doesn’t back off. They said he’s either with them or against them and left, leaving Hendry pondering that.

Weaponized Steel Cage Match: Jordynne Grace vs. Blake Monroe

These two have been at each other’s throats for months and this would hopefully be the big blow off of their feud. They made a big deal about the cage being “weaponized” which I assumed meant that it was going to be used later in a argument or something.

Instead though, it meant that there were kendo sticks, garbage cans, Official Slim Jim Tables and chairs (painted pink) attached to the cage that the participants could use. So it wasn’t the cage that was weaponized and more the… weapons, that were weaponized.

The bell rang and they charged each other with Grace sending Monroe into the cage first. Monroe grabbed a kendo stick though and beat Grace with it. Grace got it away from her and returned the favor. She then hit a spinebuster on a chair. Grace set the chair up and put Monroe in a boston crab, setting the chair over her so Grace could have a seat for more torque.

Grace set up a chair in the ropes and picked up Monroe. Monroe bit Grace and sent her shoulder first into the chair and then face first into the cage. Monroe worked Grace’s wrist into the chain link, wrenching the already injured joint. She then pulled down a pink garbage can and clobbered Grace with it. There was a curling iron and hair dryer in the can, but they got ignored.

Monroe worked the hand of Grace again, then hit an inverted Russian leg sweep onto the kendo stick. Monroe then went to the aforementioned hair dryer and used the cord to tie Grace to the middle rope. Monroe pulled a bag off the cage that held a pair of scissors. Monroe then started cutting off chunks of Grace’s hair, with Grace powerless to stop it.

Grace freed herself from the hairdryer cord and threw a Thez Press to beat the heck out of Monroe. She hit a series of lariats and went for a powerbomb, but Monroe got out of it and started scaling the cage. Grace pulled her down onto the top rope and hit a samoan drop from way up high.

Grace took a moment to mourn for her curly locks and then grabbed what looked like a wieght belt from the cage and beat up Monroe with it. She set up a trash can, but Monroe reversed it and sent Grace face first into the metal. Monroe grabbed the lid and hit a dropkick with it, sending Grace into the cage.

Monroe pulled another bag off the cage and emptied it’s contents which were diamonds. She grabbed Grace and tried to slam her, but Grace reversed and slammed them both onto the diamonds.

Grace got to her feet first and grabbed a garbage can. Setting Monroe up on the top turnbuckle, Grace climbed up, but Monroe slipped out and hung Grace up in a tree of woe. She put the garbage can over Grace’s head and then double stomped it from the top rope.

Monroe then grabbed the Official Slim Jim Table to the crowd’s delight. She tried to jam Grace’s face into the table leg, but Grace reversed it and sent Monroe into the cage like a battering ram. Grace finished setting up the Official Slim Jim Table and put it in the corner. She grabbed Monroe, but Monroe punched her and scaled the cage. Grace met her up there and got her into an electric chair position.

Monroe wormed out of it and the two climbed to the top of the cage where they traded punches. Monroe produced a bag with powder and threw it into Grace’s eyes. Grace slunk down to the top rope, and Monroe tried for a powerbomb, but Grace turned it into an air raid crash and put both women through the table.

Grace landed on top of Monroe, so the ref counted 1-2-3 and gave her the victory.

Match Result: Jordynne Grace defeated Blake Monroe

Dang! That was a cool cage match. Silly name, but awesome match none the less. I’ve never seen that hair spot in a cage match which was awesome. The diamonds instead of tacks was a great touch. That was really, really fun.

-Next, NXT GM Ava addressed the situation between TNA and NXT. She announced that NXT and TNA will compete in two 5-on-5 Survivor Series style matches (one Men’s one Women’s) and a Tag Team Title match between The Hardy Boys and DarkStake (winner takes all). There must be a finish in that match as everyone will be banned from ringside. It will all happen on October 7th on NXT TV and yes, it will be called “Invasion.”

-Then Lash Legend came out from the back. She cut a promo on the recently announced Invasion. She lobbied hard to lead Team NXT in the Women’s match. Jaida Parker took exception to that and jumped her from behind. They fought and were pulled apart.

-Lainey Reed was interviewed in the back about how she had to give up her shot at the Speed Championship. It was an ankle injury that took her out, but she will be back. Lola Vice interrupted the interview to tell her that sucks. Reed said that Vice had no chance to win her match tonight and Vice said she was bringing the title to Vice City.

NXT North American Championship Match: Ethan Page (c) vs. Tavion Heights

So, if Tavion wins the title here, does he have to pay the tariffs on it? Or if Page wins, does he have to pay them to get it back over the border? Just asking.

Off the bell, the two locked up and Heights brought some real agression to Page. Page responded with a headlock and Heights sent him into the ropes as “USA” chants broke out. The two started throwing shoulders with neither getting the advantage.

Heights kept coming at Page though, dodging kicks, dropping punches and then dropkicking Page out of the ring. On the entrance ramp, Page hit a big backdrop on Heights, leaving him writhing in pain. He dragged him back into the ring and dropped some big elbows before playing to the crowd.

Heights scrambled to the corner and Page landed a big back body drop. He continued the beatdown, working Heights into the corner and charging, but Heights moved and went for a suplex. His back gave out though page capitalized with a waist lock, wrenching his back. This went on for a while.

Heights finally shook page off and sent him into the corner. Heights went up, but PAge climbed the ladder and hit a backbreaker over the steel of the turnbuckle. Heights landed on the outside and was checked on by the official.

Page went outside and sent Heights back into the ring. He yapped at the announce team and turned his back on Heights, who found his second wind and hit a bunch of big lariats and high kicks. Heights locked in an ankle lock, but Page was able to get over to the ropes.

Heights tried a backslide, but Page kicked out. He picked up Heights in the Ego’s edge and then put on a an Olympic Boston Crab. Heights made it to the ropes though and it seemed like Page’s ankle gave out. Heights went up top, but Page clocked it and joined him. He went for a suplex, but Heights put on a sleeper hold. Page countered and sent him to the mat.

Page hit a twisted grin in the ring and got the pin, retaining the North American title.

Match Result: Ethan Page defeated Tavion Heights

Heights looked really impressive here, but as a Canadian I am legally mandated to be excited that Page won. I’m serious though, Heights looked great in this match.

-After the match, the AAA Latin American champion, El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr appeared on the big screen, challenging Page.

NXT Women’s Championship Match: Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Lola Vice

Jayne arrived doing her best 1994 HBK impression for her 4th defence of the NXT Women’s Championship. Also, Fallon Henley was there. Booker T could barely contain his excitement.

The crowd was clearly behind hometown hero Vice, chanting for her as the match started. Jayne slapped on a headlock and Vice worked it into a head scissor. Jayne went back to the headlock, transitioning to a wristlock. Vice tried to flip out of it, but Jayne put on a third headlock then started throwing shoulders and sentons.

Vice managed to catch Jayne with an armbar before moving into a headlock of her own. She threw Jayne into the ropes and kicked her back to the mat. Jayne whispered something in Henley’s ear before booting Vice in the stomach. She sent Vice to the corner and stomped her.

Jayne set Vice up for some chops and then threw her into the ropes. Vice came off them with a shot to the stomach followed by a suplex. Vice put on a chinlock and wrenched the neck of Jayne. Jayne turned it into a chinbreaker to make some space and the two traded pinning attempts.

Vice sent Jayne into the ropes and kicked her in the stomach as she bounced back. On the third, one, Jayne left the ring and Vice followed, smacking Jayne’s face on the announce table. Henley got involved, distracting Vice enough that Jayne could throw her into the steel stairs. She followed that up with a cannon ball and tossed Vice back in the ring.

Jayne hit a slingblade and went for a pin, but only got a two count. She suplexed Vice and delivered some hard kicks to the back, working the body part that took the brunt of the stair shots. She went for another kick, but Vice caught her leg and delivered a few of her own.

Henley got up on the apron and Vice charged her, but that just left her open for Jayne to deliver a backstabber. Jayne put her knee on Vice’s back and pulled her up in a chinlock in the middle of the ring. Vice managed to stand up and back Jayne into the corner. Jayne came right back out and went for a pin, but Vice reversed it into an arm submission.

Vice began throwing kicks, sending Jayne into the corner. Vice, the spiritual sucessor of Rikishi introduced some Butt-based offense, but Jayne rolled out of the ring where Henley was. Vice dove through the ropes to take out Henley, but that exposed her to a pump kick from Jayne.

Jayne tossed her back into the ring but missed with a discus elbow and Vice landed a big kick. She went for the pin, but at two, Henley pulled the ref out of the ring. He ejected her from ringside and when he got back, Vice had the Squeeze locked in on Jayne.

Jayne rolled through, avoiding the submission and the two traded chops. Jayne got a backfist in, but Vice kicked out at two. Bothe women lay on the mat as the “this is awesome” chants rained down on them.

Jayne got up first and kicked Vice in the head, sending her to the corner for some back elbows. Jayne yapped at Vice’s family at ringside and when she turned, Vice grabbed her for a DDT into a guillotine choke. Jayne got up though and sent Vice to the corner.

Vice responded with her feet and climbed to the top turnbuckle. A high kick from Jayne stopped her in her tracks and Jayne grabbed her for a suplex from the top followed by a big running knee. Vice kicked out at two though, to the surprise of Jayne.

Jayne left the ring and grabbed the title belt, presumably looking for the DQ. The ref pulled it away from her and Vice rolled her up for two. Vice hit a superkick and Jayne hit some high strikes. A flurry of kicks and backfists from Vice sent JAyne to the mat, but Vice’s momentum took her out of the ring.

Suddenly, someone in black jumped the guardrail and flattened Vice on the outside. Jayne writhed in the ring and Vice made it back in at 9, just beating the count. Jayne hit a rolling encore to the dazed Vice and got the pin to retain the title.

Match Result: Jacy Jayne defeated Lola Vice

I really liked this match. It was hard hitting and fast with a ton of near falls. Jayne makes a terrific heel champion and Vice has star power to spare. Great work here.

NXT World Championship Match: Oba Femi (c) vs. Ricky Saints

Ricky Saints is an excellent professional wrestler. So is Oba Femi, but Femi has the advantage of also being a murder monster who has dominated NXT for months now. Saints (200lbs) has a 110lb size difference from Femi (310lbs), but see the aforementioned “being really good at wrestling.” This should be an excellent match.

Femi went for Saints off the top, but Saints had it scouted and hit a few jabs to the face. Femi grabbed him and threw him at the ground for a few minutes before sending him to the corner. Saints put a big boot up and sent Femi staggering, but Femi was right back and pressed him against the ropes.

Femi started throwing European uppercuts and dropped Saints down into a headlock. Saints got his leg up though and across the throat of Femi to break the hold. Femi slammed Saints then started clubbing his back. Saints ducked underneath and threw some chops. Saints hit a boot to the gut and then a kick to the face to knock Femi off his feet.

Saints went up top, but Femi caught him on the way down. Saints wriggled out and hit a dropkick, stunning Femi momentarily. He sent him outside then charged for a dive, but Femi was waiting and hit a massive shot to Saints through the ropes that echoed through the arena.

Femi got back in the ring and slowed the tempo down. He hit a big backbreaker on Saints, followed by another and then a third. Saints kicked out at two though. Femi put him in the corner and laid some shots into Saints stomach, followed by a big clothesline that sent Saints through the ropes.

Femi pulled Saints back in then punched him so hard he flew back out, seemingly knocked out on the entrance ramp. Saints got back in at 7, beating the count, but Femi used that the drop him on the top rope and hit another European uppercut. Femi put his knee on Saints’ back and pulled him up in a chinlock.

Saints got out of it and went for a crossbody, but Femi caught him and hit a backbreaker before laying him out over the turnbuckle and pressing down, folding him in half. Saints snuck a shot in and Femi staggered back. Saints went off the ropes, but got caught again and chokeslammed into next year.

Femi charged, but Saints moved and tried a rollup. Off of that, he hit a high knee and then charged in with a forearm and a few more for good measure to get Femi into the corner. Saints tried to pick up Femi and on the second try got him up for a samoan drop. Femi kicked out at two.

Saints went for a spear, but Femi swatted him out of mid air and hit another big uppercut. They ran the ropes again and this time, Saints landed the spear, but Femi kicked out at two.

Saints went up top, but Femi ran over an punched him. He climbed the ropes and Saints clubbed him, slid underneath and landed a big powerbomb. He fell on top of Femi and got a near fall.

They both got to their feet and began trading shots. Femi powered up and Saints collapsed in the middle of the ring before he could touch him. Femi got close and Saints popped up. He laid in a few shots, but Femi threw him off. Saints charged and Femi grabbed him and threw him across the ring. He tried to pick up Saints, but Saints turned it into a rollup and got a two count.

Saints wearily rolled out of the ring and Femi followed. He pulled everything off the announce table and picked up Saints. He threw him onto the table and set him up for a powerbomb, but Saints countered and DDT’ed Femi on the table. Somehow it did not break.

Saints hit a tornado DDT and crawled back into the ring. Saints charged Femi on the ring apron, but Femi swatted him down like a fly. Back in the ring, Femi hit a Fall From Grace, but Saints somehow kicked out.

Femi went for another Fall From Grace, but Saints turned it into another DDT followed by a fourth spinning DDT and pinned Femi 1-2-3! Ricky Saints is the new NXT Champion!

Match Result: Ricky Saints defeated Oba Femi

Wow! I did not see that coming! Saints won and won clean over one of the most dominant champions NXT has ever had. Absolutely stunning. Maybe WWE has bigger plans fo Femi, but Saints earned the hell out of that title.

WWE NXT Championship match set for No Mercy

Briggs cut off Saints’ promo at the start of the show and the two traded barbs, causing NXT General Manager Ava to come out and make the number one contendership match for later that night. The two fought back and forth but it was Saints who got the win with a tornado DDT to pick up the hard-fought victory.

After the match, Saints called out Oba Femi as the two proceeded to exchange words. Femi told Saints that he lied when he said he saw nothing in him at Heatwave, because what he sees now is fear. Suddenly, DarkState arrived and beat down the two until Hank & Tank ran out for the save. An eight-man tag team match was then made for next week’s show.

WWE NXT No Mercy (September 27):

  • NXT Championship: Oba Femi defends against Ricky Saints
  • NXT Women’s Championship: Jacy Jayne defends against Lola Vice
  • WWE Women’s Speed title: Sol Ruca defends against TBA

This Week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter Back Issue

Friday Update

– We have two new shows up on the site. Our week in review show with Garrett Gonzales talking Sid Vicious, lots of history, talks about what draws, and more. We also have last night’s show with Bryan talking Bash in Berlin and Collision.

WWE has NXT No Mercy tonight from Denver:

  • Ethan Page vs. Joe Hendry for the NXT title
  • Oba Femi vs. Tony D’Angelo for the North American title
  • Roxanne Perez vs. Jaida Parker for the NXT women’s title
  • Kelani Jordan vs. Wendy Choo for the women’s North  American title
  • Wes Lee vs. Zachary Wentz
  • Ridge Holland &  Andre Chase vs. Nathan Frazier & Axiom for the NXT tag titles

There were 6,700 tickets out as of this morning for the show. It’s pretty impressive since Raw is in the same building tomorrow and has more than 10,200 tickets out.

– We’re doing weekend polls for both Bash in Berlin and NXT No Mercy. You can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down, or a thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

– I want to thank everyone for their comments on the Observer story on Sid Vicious in the current issue.

– Sonny King, who was a significant star in the 70s and into the 80s as both a wrestler and manager, passed away yesterday at the age of 79.  He was part of the fourth WWWF world tag team champions with Chief Jay Strongbow, beating King Curtis Iaukea & Baron Scicluna in two straight falls in Philadelphia. However, in a story few remember, somehow the tape got screwed up.  So they brought the Philadelphia ring to Hamburg the next night and redid only the third fall, and made it a one-fall match, and that’s the version that aired on WWWF television on both shows. King managed Afa & Sika in Georgia in 1982 when they feuded with Michael Hayes & Terry Gordy. He also was stabbed during his career which nearly ended his life, but came back. He also was a regular tag team partner of Junkyard Dog in the heyday of Mid South Wrestling feuding with the likes of Butch Reed, Ernie Ladd, and Buddy Landel. We’ll have a full story on him on the site in a few days.

– The reason there was no Bloodline segment on SmackDown is because much of the family went home for Afa’s funeral which took place this weekend.

We’re looking for reports from these shows:

  • AEW last night in Sioux Falls, SD (matches not on the live show)
  • TNA TV tapings last night in Louisville, KY

We’re looking for results, finishes, and angles at [email protected]. What we do know is that Arianna Grace and Karmen Petrovic were at the TNA tapings and they set up a Jordynne Grace TNA women’s title match.

– As noted on Friday, Nielsen made an error in reporting the AEW rating. Overall it’s nothing of note. The show was first place for the night, but it was readjusted from 0.22 to 0.23 because Nielsen had been told the show would be 69 minutes and it was 65 minutes. So the first four minutes of the next show were factored into the first released number, and the rating obviously dropped big when wrestling ended. In actuality, the final segment had 715,000 viewers and a show-high 336,000 in 18-49. This was the Bryan Danielson interview. It was also first in every male demo for the show.

– Wicked West Wrestling on 9/6 at 1735 National Avenue in San Diego has Paul London, Mecha Wolf, and Mickie Knuckles

– Kid Kash did his first match in six years last night for the Beside the Ring promotion. Kash & Ricky Morton won the main event over Hunter Wolfe, billed as 7 feet tall, and Mega Destroyer.

Guest referee added to WWE NXT No Mercy title match

A special guest referee has been added to the NXT Championship match scheduled for this Sunday’s No Mercy event.

Former NXT Champion Trick Williams will act as the special guest referee for the NXT title match between Ethan Page and TNA’s Joe Hendry at No Mercy set for Sunday, September 1.

NXT GM Ava added Trick to the match as the referee in the show-closing angle on this week’s WWE NXT episode.

Two more matches have also been confirmed for the No Mercy event.

Former tag team partners will collide when Wes Lee faces Zachary Wentz of The Rascalz on Sunday’s card. Lee turned on Wentz earlier this month to set up the match, which was officially announced for No Mercy on Tuesday’s NXT episode.

Additionally, the Women’s North American title bout between Kelani Jordan and Wendy Choo that was agreed to on last week’s WWE NXT show was officially added to Sunday’s card during Tuesday’s show.

No Mercy streams on Peacock/WWE Network on Sunday, September 1 at 7 p.m. Eastern time. The lineup for the show:

  • WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page defends against Joe Hendry w/Trick Williams as special guest referee
  • WWE NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez defends against Jaida Parker
  • WWE NXT North American Champion Oba Femi defends against Tony D’Angelo
  • WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion Kelani Jordan defends against Wendy Choo
  • WWE NXT Tag Team Champions Chase U (Andre Chase & Ridge Holland) defend against Nathan Frazer & Axiom
  • Wes Lee vs. Zachary Wentz

Four title matches official for WWE NXT No Mercy

The NXT, NXT Women’s, NXT North American, and NXT Tag Team titles will be on the line on September 1 at No Mercy.

Jaida Parker won a gauntlet match on Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode to earn a shot at Roxanne Perez’s Women’s Championship at No Mercy on Sunday, September 1. Parker outlasted Sol Ruca, Wren Sinclair, Adriana Rizzo, Kendal Grey, and Brinley Reece to advance to the title match at No Mercy, last pinning Ruca.

The North American Championship will also be on the line at No Mercy, with Oba Femi defending his title against Tony D’Angelo after D’Angelo challenged Femi in a promo segment on Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode.

Former NXT Tag Team Champions Nathan Frazer & Axiom will get a rematch at No Mercy as they challenge Chase U’s Andre Chase & Ridge Holland for the titles.

As we covered here, Joe Hendry will challenge Ethan Page for the NXT title at No Mercy after winning a number one contender’s match on Tuesday’s show.

A fifth title match with Women’s North American Champion Kelani Jordan defending against Wendy Choo was heavily teased during Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode, but has yet to be made official:

No Mercy streams live on Peacock/WWE Network on Sunday, September 1 at 7 p.m. Eastern time. The lineup for the show to this point:

  • WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page defends against Joe Hendry
  • WWE NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez defends against Jaida Parker
  • WWE NXT North American Champion Oba Femi defends against Tony D’Angelo
  • WWE NXT Tag Team Champions Chase U (Andre Chase & Ridge Holland) defend against Nathan Frazer & Axiom

Joe Hendry to challenge for WWE NXT title at No Mercy

TNA’s Joe Hendry will challenge Ethan Page for the WWE NXT Championship on September 1 at No Mercy.

Hendry won a number one contender’s three-way on Tuesday’s WWE NXT episode with help from Trick Williams to earn a shot at Page’s NXT title at the No Mercy event set for Sunday, September 1.

The number one contender’s match also involved Pete Dunne and Wes Lee, with Page on commentary for the contest. Page got involved in the bout’s closing stretch, distracting the referee as Hendry had Dunne pinned. Williams then came to Hendry’s aid, hitting Dunne with a Trick Shot as the referee climbed back into the ring to count the pin.

After the bout, Lee was attacked by Zachary Wentz, as the former tag partners look to be on a collision course for No Mercy.

Four title bouts are official for No Mercy. The current lineup for the Sunday, September 1 PLE:

  • WWE NXT Champion Ethan Page defends against Joe Hendry
  • WWE NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez defends against Jaida Parker
  • WWE NXT North American Champion Oba Femi defends against Tony D’Angelo
  • WWE NXT Tag Team Champions Chase U (Andre Chase & Ridge Holland) defend against Nathan Frazer & Axiom

Sunday Update

Bryan and I wlll be back tonight talking all the weekend news and shows and obviously with the AEW show tonight and NXT last night, there is a ton of stuff to cover. Our weekly news review show with Garrett Gonzales where we talked about the Tony Khan’s press conference, AEW big show plans, Terry Funk, and so much more is up on the site now.

I usually don’t worry about fast nationals because nobody ever talks about them once the final numbers come out, but for Collision last night they were noteworthy as it did 306,000 viewers and 0.08. The final number isn’t out until Tuesday and it will vary from this number. But the NXT and WWE Saturday shows are hurting Collision a lot, since they’ve hung tough thus far against college football. There was also the Canelo Alvarez PPV last night although I don’t know if the fight itself went against the show, but the PPV itself did. Next week wouldn’t be expected to do well either against Fastlane. It was noteworthy because you had Bryan Danielson in a main event match plus Chris Jericho & Kenny Omega as a team for the first time, so it’s not like it was a throw away show. I think the next stat to look at is how the show does with DVR numbers on these nights it goes against WWE big shows.

Regarding last night, go out of your way to see the Ilja Dragunov vs. Carmelo Hayes and Tiffany Stratton vs. Becky Lynch matches. They were two of the best WWE matches of the year. Tiffany Stratton was the talk of the show in a lot of circles.

We’re doing polls on tonight’s AEW WrestleDream show, last night’s NXT No Mercy and the Stardom Five Star Grand Prix finals, thumbs up, down or middle, best and worst match from each show to [email protected]

Tonight’s show starts 30 minutes earlier than usual at 6:30 p.m.. The last thing an AEW PPV show needs is another 30 minutes, but that said, the main card looks really strong from a wrestling standpoint. Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr., is a legit dream match and could be among the best matches of the year, and FTR vs. Aussie Open had a match one year ago that was incredible and haven’t wrestled since.

  • Keith Lee & Satoshi Kojima & Athena & Billie Starkz vs. Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty & Diamante & Mercedes Martinez
  • Claudio Castagnoli vs. Josh Barnett – Interesting that not once in the package last night did they mention Barnett as a former UFC champion or even as an MMA star, and was pushed a disciple of Antonio Inoki.
  • Luchasaurus vs. Nick Wayne – Wayne is of course from Everett, WA, so he’ll be the hometown favorite
  • The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn defend the trios titles against Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholla & Bad Dude Tito. Tito is coming off looking great at the Destruction in Kobe show

Main card starting at 8 p.m. Eastern

  • Ricky Starks vs. Wheeler Yuta
  • Young Bucks vs. Gunn Brothers vs. Lucha Brothers vs,. Orange Cassidy & Hook – winners get an AEW tag title shot
  • Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi & Chris Jericho vs. Will Ospreay & Sammy Guevara & Konoske Takeshita
  • Eddie Kingston vs. Katsuyori Shibata for the New Japan Strong and ROH title (the Pure title is not at stake here)
  • Kris Statlander vs. Julia Hart for the TBS title
  • MJF defends the ROH tag titles against Vincent & Dutch in a handicap match
  • FTR vs. Aussie Open for the AEW tag titles
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Adam Page – This one is very interesting because both could use the win to springboard into a title shot. Strickland is hometown so the crowd may be for him more than it would be anywhere else
  • Bryan Danielson vs. Zack Sabre Jr. – On paper this could be the best technical wrestling match of the year
  • Christian Cage vs. Darby Allin 2/3 falls for the TNT title was talked about in the countdown show as being the main event.

A lot of speculation regarding the end of an era and start of a new era promotion for tonight’s AEW show. We don’t have any answers although Edge being taken off Friday’s Smackdown open would naturally lead to conjecture, although I don’t consider that era changing. I will say that people in WWE would not be surprised to see Edge in AEW and there has been talk about it for months. But there has been nothing confirmed. Obviously some sort of a deal with WBD for streaming is another thing speculated on, as is talk of Mariah May (which is obviously not big enough for that hype but could be another addition to the roster) and Mercedes Mone (which has been expected once she’s healed up).

For what it’s worth, the Twitter feedback we’ve had expect a lower than usual PPV number for tonight’s show. I think with it going against Sunday Night Football and with no world title match on the show, it would be down. Taylor Swift being at the game also adds to the interest in the Chiefs-Jets game and expectation of huge numbers.

Chris Jericho applied for a trademark for the term Golden Jets. Could that be for a Jericho & Omega tag team? The Golden Jet was the nickname of Bobby Hull, an NHL legend who played at the same time Jericho’s father played.

We’re also looking for reports from tonight’s WWE house show in Stateline, NV, results, finishes and highlights to [email protected]

WWE results from San Francisco last night:

  • New Day b Ludvig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci when Woods pinned Kaiser
  • Gunther b Chad Gable to retain the IC title with a power bomb after a missed moonsault by Gable
  • Nia Jax b Zoey Stark with the annihilator splash.
  • Cody Rhodes b Damian Priest in a street fight. JD McDonagh interfered for several minutes since there was no DQ. Jey Uso made the save and brought a table into the ring and speared McDonagh into the table. Rhodes won with Cross Rhodes. Rhodes & Jey Uso asked fans to donate to Connor’s Cure as Rhodes has been doing at shows. No Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio (obviously on the NXT show) or Rhea Ripley at the show.
  • Bronson Reed b Otis with the Tsunami
  • Iyo Sky b Charlotte Flair to keep the WWE women’s title with an inside cradle off the figure four attempt.
  • Seth Rollins b The Miz with a curb stomp to keep the world title (thanks to Shannon Walsh)

For Google Trends this week, Bad Bunny was No 15 today regarding rumors of a romance with Kendall Jenner. Last night’s Canelo Alvaerz fight did 2 million searches which is more than any combat sports event in a long time, far above WrestleMania or any UFC show. That would seem to indicate a big buy number. Nothing else related to boxing, pro wrestling or MMA made the top 20 any day this week. UFC didn’t have a show yesterday. NXT normally doesn’t crack the top 20 so that’s not a negative sign.

The Western Australian had an article yesterday regarding the Western Australian tourism council expecting $100 million in economy coming to Perth for a Coldplay concert ($68 million for two November shows) and WWE Elimination Chamber ($33 million). The tourism board noted that UFC 288 in February brought in 8,500 tourists and a $6 million gate, the largest indoor arena event gate ever in Australia, breaking the Rolling Stones record set in 2014. The board is attempting to make Perth the tourist capital of Australia.

El Hijo del Vikingo did a show last night in Dallas. He has been hurting. AAA has a big show today in Guadalajara and Vikingo is advertised for that one.

For NXT on Tuesday, they’ve announced Gigi Dolin vs. Blair Davenport, Tyler Bate & Butch vs. Mark Coffey & Wolfgang and the start of the women’s breakout tournament.

Raw tomorrow has Jey Uso vs. Damien Priest, Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler (Jax is going to kill everyone until she faces Rhea Ripley most likely), Ivar vs. Xavier Woods, Becky Lynch vs. Tegan Nox for the NXT women’s title and a Gunther/Tommaso Ciampa contract signing. Drew McIntyre will be on Miz TV a second week in a row.

Women’s wrestling sold out the Yokohama Budokan (about 2,600 seats) yesterday and today. The Stardom Grand Prix finals, won by Suzu Suzuki over Maika, was on Saturday. The Crash Gals 40th anniversary show was today. The Crush Gals didn’t wrestle on the show but did a talk show and sang. There were wrestling legends on the show in matches including Jaguar Yokota, Aja Kong, and current star Sareee.

I haven’t seen the shows, but have heard that the Grand Prix finals were very good, particularly Suzuki vs. Maika where Suzuki won with a sky twister press. Also heard Friday’s Arena Mexico Noche de Campeones was strong. As far as best matches, the Suzuki-Maika match we’ve heard some talk of but the best match talk so far this weekend came from the top two matches at NXT last night.

Thanks to Rohit Sroya for the report from Sacramento and Tim Kelly for the report from last night in Seattle..

MLW announced B3CCA has pulled out of her featherweight title challenge to Delmi Exo on 10/14 in Philadelphia and that Exo will defend against “The Phantom Challenger.”

Pure Pro Wrestling from last night in Battle Creek, MI: Jackson Levine over Logan Link & Ethan J, Facade b Colin Jamse, Abdul Hakeem & Drake b Father Time & Tank in a tag tourney match, Tenshi won over Heather Blue and Khaos, Kongo Kong won Battle Royal, Al Snow & Head & Eric Smalls b Dylan Night & Nick Xero & Mr. One Night Only, Kongo Kong b Hernandez, Aaron Orion & Cody Manning b Zach Gowen & Kerry Morton, Alex Hammerstone b Chris Masters, James Storm & Gideon Malice b The Nomads, Dylan Derringer b Silas Young, Katie Forbes b Alexis Royal, Rob Van Dam b Brian Cage. Dan Severn was scheduled to wrestle and was there at the fan fest but was injured and couldn’t wrestle (thanks to Leonard Brand)

Stardom did a similar angle to AEW on today’s show as a group of women in disguise attacked Mayu Iwatani after Iwatani lost a non-title match with AZM.

AIW has a show called Boogey Nights with the Boogeyman appearing on Saturday night at the Tadmor Shrine in Akron, OH.

Mike Santana vs. Rocky Romero will headline the 10/13 House of Glory show at the NYC Arena in New York. Minoru Suzuki vs Charles Mason and Leila Grey vs. Kiki Van Gogh are also on the show.

Becky Lynch suffers arm laceration at WWE NXT No Mercy

Becky Lynch suffered a laceration to her arm at NXT No Mercy.

Although it’s unclear when she sustained the injury, Lynch can be seen favoring her arm at multiple points during the later stages of the match. Lynch motioned for a ringside trainer and pointed at her arm immediately following her win. She posted a photo of the injury to social media later that night.

Lynch wrote:

NbeXT was rocking tonight. The Man brought @tiffanywwe to the main event but she brought it to The Man. Respect. It wasn’t Tiffy time this time. But it will be again. The world tour continues. Stitches and all – last slide is my arm

Fightful Select is reporting that Lynch’s wound required 11 stitches to close. She is reportedly fine otherwise.

Lynch is scheduled to defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Tegan on Monday’s edition of Raw. Nox was seated ringside for Lynch vs. Stratton on last night’s show.

Ilja Dragunov wins NXT Championship at No Mercy

NXT has entered into the Ilja Dragunov era.

The NXT Championship changed hands with Dragunov defeating Carmelo Hayes at No Mercy on Saturday night. Dragunov pinned Hayes after delivering a super H-Bomb from the top rope. Dragunov then showed respect to Hayes following the intense and hard-hitting match. He helped Hayes to his feet and the two embraced after Dragunov offered a handshake.

Hayes’ reign as NXT Champion lasted nearly six months. He won the title from Bron Breakker this April.

This was Dragunov’s second time challenging Hayes for the championship. At Great American Bash, Dragunov was unsuccessful in his first attempt to defeat Hayes. Dragunov blamed Trick Williams for that loss.

Williams wasn’t at ringside for Hayes vs. Dragunov at No Mercy. Earlier in the show, Williams won the NXT North American Championship by defeating Dominik Mysterio. During a backstage segment after losing to Dragunov, Hayes appeared to briefly have his eyes on Williams’ North American title belt.

Dragunov became the number one contender to the NXT Championship with a victory over Wes Lee on NXT earlier this month.

When Dragunov was in NXT UK, he held the NXT United Kingdom Championship one time. This is his first reign as NXT Champion.

Trick Williams wins North American title at WWE NXT No Mercy

At NXT No Mercy, Trick Williams scored the biggest victory of his career so far.

Williams defeated Dominik Mysterio on Saturday night to win the NXT North American Championship. Dominik had been champion since winning the title from Wes Lee this July.

Dragon Lee served as the special guest referee for Williams and Dominik’s title match. At one point, Dominik took Dragon Lee out with a superkick after Williams moved out of the way. Another referee came down but was also inadvertently laid out. Dominik tried to take advantage of the situation by hitting Williams with the North American title belt, but Williams avoided it and dropped Dominik with a knee strike. Dragon Lee then woke up in enough time to count the pin for Williams.

WWE shared footage of Shawn Michaels congratulating Williams backstage after his victory.

This is the first title that Williams has ever held. A former college football player, he signed with WWE in 2021.

Williams earned the North American title shot at No Mercy by defeating Axiom, Dragon Lee, and Tyler Bate in a fatal four-way match on NXT this past Tuesday.

Williams and NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes were shown arriving together on the pre-show for No Mercy. Hayes is defending his NXT Championship against Ilja Dragunov at the event.

WWE NXT No Mercy live results: Becky Lynch vs. Tiffany Stratton

Date: September 30, 2023
Location: Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, CA

Show Recap —

KICK-OFF SHOW —

Megan Morant, Matt Camp and Sam Roberts hosted the pre-show in a studio.

McKenzie Mitchell asked Dragon Lee if he could remain impartial as the referee in Dominik Mysterio’s title defence against Trick Williams. Dragon Lee spoke about honour and respect and said he would do his job tonight — unlike Dom.

Meta-Four was shown arriving at the arena. They put over Noam Dar as the best champion in the company. He said he would win and would definitely not have broken fingers. The panel seemed to confirm that Tyler Bate will be in Butch’s corner tonight.

Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza cut a promo saying they would honour their grandfather by winning the NXT tag titles tonight.

The panel spoke about the main women’s and men’s title matches.

********

The panel cut to Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, California for the pre-show match. Vic Joseph and Booker T are the commentators.

Blair Davenport defeated Kelani Jordan (6:41)

They had a normal match where Davenport had control until Jordan made a comeback. Jordan tried a split-legged moonsault but Davenport got her knees up. Davenport followed with a double foot stomp to the back and a falcon arrow for the pinfall win.

— Gigi Dolin attacked Davenport after the match and hammered away until officials eventually broke it up. (The original referee just stood there and flailed his arms.)

********

They replayed the very long brawl between Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker.

The panel ran down tonight’s card and confirmed that Becky Lynch vs. Tiffany Stratton would be the main event.

********

NXT NO MERCY MAIN SHOW —

The intro video was the same one you might have seen online where they insert an “NXT No Mercy” cartridge into a Nintendo 64 and use (crappy) old-school graphics for the wrestlers. Dom’s avatar looks just like Eddie Guerrero.

Baron Corbin defeated Bron Breakker (9:32)

Corbin entered on a motorcycle. Of course, they’re in a small arena, so his ride down the aisle was a short one. Booker coughed upon breathing in the bike’s exhaust fumes.

Before the match started, Breakker wiped out Corbin with a flip dive. They brawled into the crowd and Corbin managed to fight back. They fought back to ringside and Corbin missed a splash on the announce table. Breakker shoved him into the ring and the match began. The crowd was hot for this. (The announcers lost audio connection briefly as the match began but they came back about 90 seconds into it.)

Corbin shoved Breakker off the ropes but Breakker came right back with a Frankensteiner, followed by a press slam for two. Corbin hit a death valley driver for two and a Deep Six for two. Breakker tried charging at Corbin outside the ring but Corbin slammed him through the announce table. However, Breakker sat up like the Undertaker and he speared Corbin.

Breakker was ready to end it until he saw Robert Stone, who was on the top rope. Stone tried a high cross, but Breakker caught him and chucked him onto a dozen security guards who were suddenly at ringside for some reason. (The referee was fine with all of this.)

Breakker turned around into Corbin who hit End of Days for the pinfall win.

********

There were commercials/video packages.

Tiffany Stratton and Becky Lynch were shown arriving at the arena earlier tonight.

McKenzie Mitchell interviewed Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. They were both very confident that they would leave tonight as champions.

********

Trick Williams defeated Dominik Mysterio to win the NXT North American Championship [Special Referee Dragon Lee] (9:27)

Dom immediately hit a dropkick as Dragon Lee was putting the title belt away so he was late making the cover and Williams kicked out. Dom wasn’t happy. Williams went on offence so Dom left the ring, grabbed his title, and started to leave. Williams cut him off and went back on offence in the ring. The crowd chanted, “We want Mami.”

Dom took control after a dropkick and soaked in the crowd heat before Williams came back with some rough-looking kicks. After they collided with clotheslines, Dom tried a superkick but Williams ducked and Dom superkicked Dragon Lee by mistake.

Williams hit a neckbreaker but there was no ref. A new ref slid in and counted to one but Williams didn’t realize there was a new ref so he let go. Upon realizing the ref was there, he tried another cover but Dom kicked out. Williams followed with a Trouble in Paradise (hitting Dom’s black eye) for two.

Dom accidentally knocked down the new ref before he knocked Williams out of the ring. Dom posted Williams but he missed a frog splash. Williams tried a cover but again there was no referee.

Dom tried using the belt as a weapon but Williams caught him with a running knee for the pinfall win — counted by Dragon Lee (who needed three minutes to recover from one superkick).

The crowd was happy for Trick Willams.

********

Fatal four-way match: Tony D’Angelo & Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo defeated Lucien Price & Bronco Nima (w/Scypts), The Creed Brothers and Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo to retain the NXT Tag Team Championships (12:06)

There was some fast-paced action early on until D’Angelo appeared to get hurt while trying to lift Garza and Carrillo at the same time. He collapsed and grabbed his knee and the ref backed off Garza who tried going after him.

Training staff checked on Tony D as Garza and Carrillo worked over his partner, Stacks. The two heel teams (OTM and Garza/Carrillo) continued to work over Stacks until Ivy Nile dropkicked Scrypts before he could get involved.

The Creed Brothers got in and Julius handed out suplexed. Julius hit OTM with a double Northern Lights suplex, which was impressive. Brutus had Garza in an ankle lock but it was eventually broken up.

Tony D, now with his knee in a brace, limped back down to the ring while shoving officials away. D’Angelo caught Carrillo out of mid-air and hit a spinebuster.

This led to a spot where the members of the Creeds and the Family simultaneously hit superplexes to their opponents. The crowd chanted, “This is awesome.” The teams exchanged moves until OTM hit Tony D with an assisted powerslam for two. Brutus wiped out Garza, Carrillo and Nima with a springboard cannonball dive.

Tony D and Stacks hit Price with a double spinebuster for the pinfall win and retained their titles.

This was a fun match and the crowd was really into it and into The Family’s win.

********

Trick Williams approached Carmelo Hayes and they celebrated Williams’ title win.

Becky Lynch was shown gathering weapons in a shopping cart for her match.

Ryan Oakes was shown at ringside.

********

British Rounds Rules match for the NXT Heritage Cup: Noam Dar (w/Oro Mensah, Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson) defeated Butch (w/Tyler Bate) (approx. 19:00)

(By the rules of the match, whoever wins two falls first wins the match.)

Butch controlled round one but Dar hit him with a cheap shot when the round ended. That gave him the edge in round two but Butch went back on offence anyway.

Lash and Jackson distracted the ref so Mensah dropped Butch with a kick. Dar followed with a flying enziguri to pick up a pinfall win in the round. Dar went up 1-0 after two rounds. Butch tied it 1-1 after hitting Dar with Bitter End for the pinfall.

Dar tried a few submissions in round four but Butch fought back and put him in a submission of his own. Dar appeared to pass out just as the round ended but the ref didn’t call it so we remained tied heading into round five.

Dar hit a spinning back elbow for two. Butch hit a double underhook suplex off the ropes for two. Dar hit a brainbuster on the apron for two. Dar tried taunting Butch so Butch twisted his fingers as the round ended. Butch stomped Dar’s hand at the end of the round so Lash taped up his fingers.

Round six started with Dar hitting consecutive spinning back elbows but Butch came right back with a German suplex. Mensah again hit Butch with a kick behind the ref’s back and Dar hit a Nova Roller for two. Tyler Bate wiped out Mensah and Butch hit Dar with a Tyler Driver ‘97 for a nearfall.

Butch hit a Bitter End for another nearfall. Butch applied an armbar as Gallus appeared at ringside to attack Bate. Butch saved him by wiping them out with a dive.

Another ref distraction allowed Joe Coffey to hit Butch with a discus clothesline and Dar covered Butch to pick up the win.

(This was a crap finish to what was otherwise a good match. The interference within the match might’ve been fine if we got a clean finish in the end.)

********

Ilja Dragunov defeated Carmelo Hayes to win the NXT Championship (21:02)

This was excellent.

Dragunov immediately hit a running boot and was on fire until Hayes fired himself up and hit a spear. Dragunov ducked a Hayes springboard move and nailed a lariat. Draganov followed with machine gun chops and a boot to the back of the head. Dragunov was in complete control and again hit chops until Hayes caught his arm and responded with chops of his own.

The crowd got into hit with dueling chants as the two men exchanged offence. Hayes got the better of the exchange with a leaping enziguri and springboard bulldog — which spiked Dragunov. Dragunov countered Hayes’ next move and hit consecutive German suplexes. Hayes planted Dragunov before stomping his head (while holding his arm).

Dragunov came back with a running knee and powerbomb. Hayes tried countering Dragunov’s move off the top with a Codebreaker but Dragunov countered his counter and drove him into the turnbuckle. Dragunov followed with a coast-to-coast dropkick for two. The crowd chanted, “This is awesome.”

Dragunov hit a superplex, Hayes hit a Codebreaker, and Dragunov came right back with an H-Bomb forearm for a nearfall. Dragunov hit another H-Bomb, this time off the middle rope, for another nearfall. Hayes responded with a superkick for two.

They fought on the apron until Hayes hit a cutter off the apron onto the floor. Hayes came off the top but Dragunov nailed him out of mid-air with a clothesline.

Dragunov went to the top and hit a super H-Bomb for the pinfall win. Dragunov wins clean and is the new NXT Champion. The crowd popped big for the finish.

Extreme Rules match: Becky Lynch defeated Tiffany Stratton to retain the NXT Women’s Championship (20:22)

As Vic Joseph explained, Lynch wore a t-shirt with the names of people she cares for and fights for, including her daughter, husband, and Bray Wyatt (and perhaps others).

Lynch entered halfway down the aisle before heading to the back to grab her shopping cart of weapons. They fought into the crowd and up the stairs. Stratton had Lynch trapped in the handrail so a fan handed Lynch a gold chain and she used it to hit Stratton. They fought back toward ringside. Stratton was busted open, perhaps by the chain.

Joseph said the fan who handed Lynch the chain was likely King Troi Anthoni, a stylist who is friends with Lynch and Seth Rollins. (His Instagram indicates he may have also been involved with Britt Baker’s recent photoshoot.)

Stratton hit Lynch with a kendo stick and with the steel steps. Lynch fought back and put Stratton into the shopping cart and shoved it into the steel steps (which was funny).

Lynch pulled out a black bag, which you’d think would have thumbtacks, but it actually had torn apart Barbie dolls. Lynch slammed Stratton onto the dolls for two. Stratton left the ring so Lynch started whipping the doll arms and legs at her. Stratton batted them away with a trash can lid and smacked Lynch with the lid too.

Lynch placed Stratton into a trash can and hit a diving leg drop. Stratton fought back with the trash can and gave Lynch a spinebuster onto the bin for two.

Stratton piled up a dozen chairs but Lynch slammed her onto it and applied an armbar. They rolled out of the ring with the move still applied and Stratton used her strength to slam Lynch onto the steel steps, leading to a two count. (Lynch’s arm was bruised and she kept favouring it.)

Lynch suplexed Stratton into the barricade and grabbed a table, to the delight of the crowd, but Stratton hit her with a kendo stick.

Stratton set up the table but lost sight of Lynch. She pulled up the ring skirt but Lynch was there and sprayed her with a fire extinguisher. Lynch hit Stratton once with a barb wire bat but Stratton ducked another swing and the bat went flying. Stratton then drove Lynch through the barricade with a handspring elbow, which looked great.

Lynch fell into a leather chair so Stratton hit her with a cannonball. Stratton put Lynch on a table outside the ring and hit a senton bomb off the top. Stratton put Lynch in the ring and hit another senton bomb for a nearfall.

Stratton tried a moonsault to the outside but Lynch moved and hit a Man-handle slam, which drew a two count in the ring. Stratton hit a rolling fireman’s carry onto the chairs but she missed a moonsault — and landed right on the chairs.

Lynch followed by giving Stratton the Man-handle Slam on the steel chairs for the pinfall win.

— Lynch’s arm may be injured for real but don’t take my word for it. She seemed to point at her arm and at the ringside trainer/doctor after the match.

The match was awesome and Stratton really impressed. I’m guessing a lot of people would have wanted Stratton to win based on her performance here, and I’m sure that was the point.

— Lynch and Nox acknowledged each other as Lynch celebrated with her belt.

Before the show ended, Hayes approached Williams in the back. Hayes apologized for losing but Williams said he fought like a champion and was proud of him. They embraced.
