WWE reveals date and location for NXT Heatwave 2025

WWE has officially confirmed the date and location for NXT’s next PLE.

During this afternoon’s Great American Bash event, WWE announced that NXT Heatwave will emanate live from Lowell, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 24. The Lowell Memorial Auditorium is the venue for the show.

August 24 is the same day that AEW & NJPW are running their Forbidden Door pay-per-view in London, England. While the shows are happening on the same day, it doesn’t look like they’ll be going head-to-head. The Heatwave graphic lists a 6:30 p.m. Eastern start time for ticket holders. Forbidden Door will be taking place in the afternoon due to the time difference between the United States and United Kingdom.

Tickets for Heatwave are going on sale to the general public this coming Wednesday (July 16).

Heatwave has been an annual event for NXT since 2022, first starting as a TV special before becoming a PLE. The show will stream live on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix elsewhere.

Ahead of Heatwave, NXT is heading on the road for a TV episode in Houston, Texas on July 22. WWE has announced that the coaches of WWE LFG — The Undertaker, Michelle McCool, Booker T, and Bubba Ray Dudley — will be appearing on that episode. LFG is a reality competition series that airs on A&E.

Ilja Dragunov vs. Trick Williams set for WWE NXT Heatwave

Ilja Dragunov and Trick Williams will meet in two weeks.

A match between Dragunov and Williams was made on Tuesday’s NXT. The two will meet on a special edition of NXT called Heatwave, which will take place in two weeks on August 22. Additionally, Noam Dar will meet Nathan Frazer in a match for the NXT Heritage Cup trophy.

On last week’s NXT, Williams told Carmelo Hayes that he was going to do his own thing and go after Dragunov. On this week’s show, Dragunov called out Williams and the two had a back-and-forth promo. Eventually, they set up their match for Heatwave.

Tuesday’s show also saw Tyler Bate defeat Noam Dar for the fake Heritage Cup trophy that the Meta-Four have introduced in recent weeks. In a backstage interview, Dar pleaded with Bate to give him back the trophy. Frazer arrived and told Dar he would make a deal with him where he would grant Dar a match for the real trophy if he admitted his trophy was fake. Dar eventually admitted that Fraszer held the original title that Oro Mensah lost on his behalf.

Here is the current lineup for Heatwave:

  • Ilja Dragunov vs. Trick Williams
  • NXT Heritage Cup: Nathan Fraszer defends against Noam Dar

July 24, 2000 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: ECW Heatwave review, wrestling business uncertainty, more

While a hot PPV show and an impromptu brawl in the middle of the show stole the headlines, in the big scheme of things, with the future of the company at stake, those were only minor issues.

After five years of the biggest boom period in the history of this industry, pro wrestling, ironically, like so many industries in this ever changing world, has never been faced with so much uncertainty. Despite more attention than ever before, the landscape may have never looked more scary.

There is really only one major promotion in the world that can be described as stable and with a future that at least short-term looks bright, the World Wrestling Federation. With a place on the stock market, and the CBS/Viacom deal along with a business partnership with NBC, opening so many new promotional doors, not to mention record revenues from various sources and building the strongest minor league foundation to insure a steady supply of what the life blood of the industry is, young fresh talent.
