Big E getting updated neck scans in three-to-six months, says new projects are coming

Former WWE Champion Big E is still not ruling out a potential return to the ring dependent on his next round of neck scans.

In an interview with Sports Talk Philly, the 38-year-old said that he will get another round of scans in the next three-to-six months and “if they look great and the doctors say it’s healthy for me to go back, then that’s something where we’ll sit down and talk about it.”

The popular star and member of the New Day was severely injured in a March 2022 tag team match on a belly-to-belly suplex outside the ring by Ridge Holland. After landing on his head, he broke his C1 and C6 vertebrae and while he has healed for day-to-day life, his C1 vertebrae still hadn’t turned into new bone as of two months ago.

“…I try not to spend too much time worrying about things I can’t control. It’s nice to know that if I get the opportunity to get back in the ring, and I can do it healthily, then let’s do that. Let’s attack it fully. But if not, I know exactly what I want to do, and I’m excited about that path, too,” he said, also discussing that he got stem cell treatment around three months ago in Cancun.

If he can’t ever return to the ring, he has made peace with that, saying he’s got a lot of opportunities doing WWE Countdown shows and other soon-to-be announced WWE broadcasting opportunities.

“There’s a myriad of things open to me, and so many things I’m excited about. That’s really the lovely thing that while I’m not in the ring right now, I have so many things I’m excited about and projects I’m working on. Every day, I wake up with that excitement and that passion. If this is the end of my career in the ring, I know exactly what I want to do and all of those things are in motion right now,” he said.

WWE’s Big E throws neck brace away in video post

WWE’s Big E threw his neck brace in the trash in a video posted to social media on Monday.

In a post to his Instagram story, Big E threw away the brace that he has worn since suffering a broken neck on the March 11 episode of WWE SmackDown.

The video marks the first update that Big E has provided in over a month as he continues to recover from the neck injury. At last report, he stated that his C1 vertebrae was “not healing optimally” and that he would spend an additional four to six weeks wearing the brace as he hoped to avoid spinal fusion surgery.

Big E suffered the broken neck in a tag team match on SmackDown, taking an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland on the floor. He suffered broken C1 and broken C6 vertebrae in the spot, and said that he narrowly avoided paralysis, stroke, and even death in the incident.
