Cody Rhodes compares Pat McAfee to Disco Inferno on WWE SmackDown

Cody Rhodes has vowed revenge on Pat McAfee, who suddenly has become the focus of a WrestleMania main event.

McAfee had opened SmackDown by returning to WWE and giving Rhodes a low blow, revealing himself as the mystery man who had been on the phone with Randy Orton in recent weeks.

Rhodes returned to the ring shortly before the main event, laying out Kit Wilson with a crossroads and cutting a fiery promo.

“We got all dressed up in St. Louis tonight to find out who Randy Orton was talking to on the phone,” Rhodes said. “And color me surprised, it was Pat McAfee. That’s like if Scott Hall and Kevin Nash talked about the third man in the NWO, and instead of Hulk Hogan, it was Disco Inferno.”

This week marks the eight-year anniversary of Rhodes’ burial of Inferno on social media. “Stop,” he wrote to Inferno in 2018. “You know nothing. You have drawn 0 dollars. No fan has ever left a show thinking about you. You were lucky to be a juiced up double-lifer ‘over with the boys’ type in an era where you hid in plain sight coasting on others’ success. Couldn’t hang then, can’t get booked now.”

Rhodes continued to insult McAfee as Orton’s hometown crowd booed him. “Pat, you stoner, grifter, Logan Paul without muscles, human hat rack, fly by night, you’re gonna get your receipt,” he said. “And boy I felt it. And I should have, you’re a former NFL punter. But Pat, you and everyone who represents you, and I know who I’m talking to, can kiss my ass.”

Rhodes then referred to his six-year absence from WWE. “Oh no, is that too far?” he asked. “What are you going to do, fire me? It sure worked out for you the last time.”

Rhodes closed his promo by addressing Orton—who, in case you had forgotten, will be his opponent at WrestleMania. “It’s as simple as this,” he said. “It’s a wrestling match with 20 years of history, with the two very best wrestlers to do it. And I am hearing it, I am. I am hearing those voices inside my head, finally. But you don’t want to here what they have to say.”

Rhodes was largely booed by the crowd in Orton’s home town of St. Louis.

  • NBC Sports reported that former WCW star Steve ‘Mongo’ McMichael will be unable to travel to attend his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.
  • “Steve McMichael will not be able to travel to Canton, Ohio for his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction due to complications of ALS he has so valiantly fought the last three years,” McMichael’s family said in a statement. “The Hall of Fame is making plans for presenting his honor at his home. Steve and his family thank you for the fans’ ongoing support.”
  • Disco Inferno on X responded to Dax Harwood’s injury, writing “You just ruined your boss’s narrative that he will put their safety record up against anyone. If talent is working hurt and not telling the office, then it’s not a safe work environment. Bad look Dax.”
  • Harwood responded: “I know this is exactly what you’re looking for, because you beg for relevancy that you only got by being a punching bag your whole career, but you’re a f****** idiot. If you ever worked hard enough during your little 15 minute-of fame-career to ever feel any sort of pain, you’d know the anxiety that comes with injury to an athlete. So while you’re trying to turn this into a bit for your shitty podcast, I’m hoping & praying that I don’t have to go through an extensive surgery, or even worse. For being someone who claims to be so smart to our business, you’d probably know wrestlers have worked hurt for decades. Also, I’m 100% sure some wrestlers in WWE are working hurt right now, but of course you only decide to attack AEW…anything for the clicks. If anything, this does not go against the “safe working environment” that my boss promotes. It shows how dumb we as wrestlers are to hide this information from all the proper people put in place to keep us safe. How can this be anyone’s fault except mine? No one knew about the severity of my injury. And once I finally told Tony and Doc Sampson, they immediately MADE me take time off. Maybe one day, I can be on your podcast, but only if we do it live and face to face. I’ll fly myself wherever I need to meet you. Open invitation. Anyways…off to an MRI. While you’ll be talking about this for a segment of your show, I’m hoping the doctors don’t find out anything worse about my condition. Good day, Glenn.”
  • The Washington Post has an article on Bryan Danielson as he winds down his wrestling career.
  • AEW’s YouTube channel has an exclusive special look at Mina Shirakawa.
  • Cultaholic spoke to TNA’s Leon Slater, who mentioned names like Je’Von Evans, AJ Styles, and Trick Williams as potential future opponents.
  • “The one I’ve been seeing on socials a lot is me and Je’Von Evans,” he said. “I think even before Je’Von got signed we were being compared as kind of like two parallels on other sides of the pond. We’re both young, we both carry ourselves with this confidence, this kind of attitude. So I think me and Je’Von would be a very interesting matchup. Other than him, obviously the main man Trick Williams is someone I would like to mix it up with. As far as the main roster goes, I have to say AJ Styles, man, especially being on this side representing TNA now. I’d be super, super interested to mix it up with AJ, who really put TNA on the map.”
  • Anthony Bowens talked to Youngstown Studio.
  • AJ Mendez appeared at the premiere of Sacramento during the 2024 Tribeca Festival.

Amazing Red, Disco Inferno set for TNA: There’s No Place Like Home

Impact Wrestling has added two more wrestlers to TNA: There’s No Place Like Home.

The promotion announced today that Amazing Red and Disco Inferno are set for There’s No Place Like Home. The show is a one-night-only revival of the TNA brand. It’s taking place at The Ritz Ybor City in Tampa, Florida on Friday, April 3 and is part of WrestleCon 2020.

There are now eight wrestlers announced for There’s No Place Like Home. D’Lo Brown & Ken Anderson (representing Aces & Eights), Chris Sabin, “Wildcat” Chris Harris, Scott Steiner, and Petey Williams have also been confirmed for the show.

Amazing Red was a three-time X-Division Champion for TNA. He’s also been announced for the WrestleCon SuperShow on Thursday, April 2 and ROH Supercard of Honor XIV on Saturday, April 4.

Disco Inferno feuded with Scarlett Bordeaux, Tessa Blanchard, and Impact’s women’s division after returning to the promotion as part of their Thanksgiving Turkey Trot match in 2018.

There’s No Place Like Home will also be available live via Fite TV.

Left My Wallet: The return of Disco Inferno

‘Left My Wallet’ is back with a holiday edition featuring the return of Glenn Gilbertti, better known as Disco Inferno.

The holiday season is heating up and so is the playoff picture in the NFL as we head into the playoffs. Disco and I talk which teams are the most well rounded, who he thinks is currently the best team in the NFL, which teams are the most dangerous to higher seeds, and which games he is looking forward to the most this weekend. We also touch on why fantasy football is excruciatingly frustrating, DFS strategy, and his solution to have the best fantasy team win every year.

The talk then turns to the NBA as we discuss the Western Conference playoff picture, why the Lakers have been a surprise, NBA betting, and an amazing fact about this year’s Toronto Raptors team.

Disco is not only a former tag team partner of our Bryan Alvarez, but he is one of the most knowledgable sports fans out there. It’s some festive sports talk as we head into the weekend with one of the most entertaining, and controversial, personalities in wrestling today.

Left My Wallet: Disco Inferno and Craig from BVC

There’s a lot going on in the sports world and the ‘I Left My Wallet In Greg Polanco’ podcast is back talking the current scene with special guests Disco Inferno and Craig Proper from the Bryan, Vinny and Craig Show — two guys who are associated with the Attitude Era in different ways.

You might be used to hearing Craig review Attitude Era WWE Raw and WCW Nitro every Wednesday on BVC, but now, you can hear him review and reminisce on some of his greatest Seattle Seahawks memories like his love of Jim Zorn and Steve Largent, the original Curt Warner, being there live in 1988 to see the team win their first division title, the phenomenon that was Brian Bosworth, and an amazing story of watching the Super Bowl with his father.

We then go to former WCW TV and Cruiserweight Champion Disco Inferno (aka Glenn Gilbertti) as we talk all the goings on in the sports world including the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the phenomenon they have become, the NBA playoffs, a 76ers bet he placed in Vegas, why he thinks Lebron is the best player ever and why I disagree, how the NBA has evolved, the NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns potentially being competitive again, and more.

Glenn is also a lifelong sports fan and has been playing fantasy football for over 30 years. He offers some tips for the coming year and how he’s been succesful in years past, including our Keepin’ It 100 Fanduel league last year.
