Friday Update

Jacob Fatu
Jacob Fatu (Image credit: WWE)

–Garrett Gonzales and I did a show today covering Andrade and Seth Rollins and AI in wrestling as well as talked a lot about WWE in 1992 with James Dixon who wrote a book on that period.  I wished we had more time to talk because that was a fun discussion.  Bryan and I will be back tomorrow night covering all the news plus AEW’s WestleDream.

–The new issue of The Observer out today apparently has been the talk of the social media wrestling world.

–I only have minimal ratings notes on AEW on Wednesday, but considering the environment we are in where wrestling 18-34 is clearly severely undercounted and  Hispanic viewing seems to be as well, the numbers were the best they’ve been since the new system was put in place.  Dynamite did 534,000 viewers and an 0.11 in 18-49 and Collision did 400,000 viewers and an 0.11.    These numbers don’t include viewership on HBO MAX.

–From talking with people in both companies, the belief, or at least hope, is that the flaws will be fixed in the system at some point.  There is a ton of technical stuff involved.  I’ve had some conversations with people not in wrestling but super knowledgeable about ratings and I think the key flaws have been discussed in the past two week’s issues.

–No word on where they are going with the WWF world title situation.  The only update on Seth Rollins is that until they do the surgery, they won’t know the level of the damage or the amount of time it will take for him to return.  The injury is legit, the surgery is legit, unless they are really trying to fool everyone.  It’s quite the amazing irony.  But as far as how long he’ll be out, anything you may see as an estimate is premature past it’ll be months.

–Regarding Jacob Fatu, I believe the story that it was a non-ring related injury is accurate.  The hope was that he wouldn’t be out of action tha long, but it does eliminate him from tonight’s main event in San Jose (Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes is scheduled).  This is a domino effect since that was scheduled to be on the Survivor Series show, and still may be.  But the McIntyre vs. Fatu program over who gets the shot at Rhodes may have to be delayed.

–Based on Shinsuke Nakamura copying Hiroshi Tanahashi at today’s WWE show at Sumo Hell where Nakamura & Jey Uso beat Bron Brakker & Bronson Reed, it opened up speculation regarding Nakamura being Hiroshi Tanahashi’s last opponent at the Tokyo Dome.  Nothing is finalized.  Could it happen?  It’s not like that’s a firm no.

–A correction from today’s issue.  When talking about tomorrow’s show and the mention of Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi vs. Josh Alexander & Hechicero as a planned  match, Omega & Ibushi were to do a tag match but it may have been a different Callis family team like Alexander & Mark Davis.  Omega & Ibushi were in the original plans, but Hechicero was not going to be their opponent as he was not booked on the show.

–Due to Mercedes Mone, tonight’s All-women’s show at Arena Mexico, with Mone vs. Persephone and India Sioux vs. Skadi, will be the largest crowd for an all-women’s pro wrestling show in many years.  The advance is well above previous CMLL shows and it will beat the WWE Evolution show this year or any women’s shows in Japan.  Aubrey Edwards is being brought in to referee the Mone match.   Barring injury, something with Mone will be added to tomorrow’s WrestleDream show.

–Most of the top CMLL stars are in the UK for tomorrow’s Fantastica Mania shows in Wolverhampton, UK.  The shows will take place tomorrow at 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Eastern.

–UFC is in Vancouver for an all  ESPN+ show starting at 4 p.m. tomorrow
Melissa Croden (136) vs. Tainara Lisbos (135.5)
Azamat Bekoev (185) vs. Yousri Belgaroui (185.5)
Stephanie Luciano (116) vs. Ravena Oliveira (115.5)
Kyle Prepolec (155.5) vs. Drew Dober (155.5)
Danny Bartlow (185.5) vs.  Djorden Santos (185.5)
Bruno Silva (125.5) vs.  HyunSung Park (126)
Charles Jourdain (135.5) vs. Davey  Grant (136)
Kyle Nelson (155.5) vs. Matt Frevola (155)
Cody Gibson (136) vs. Aoriqileng (135.5)
Manon Fiorot (125.5) vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius (125.5)
Marlon Chito Vera (136) vs. Aiemann Zahabi (135.5)
Kevin Holland (170.5) vs. Mike Malott (171)
Reinier de Ridder (186) vs. Brendan Allen (186)

de Ridder could be in line for the middleweight title with a win.

–Ilja Dragunov is backstage in San Jose according to PWInsider training in the ring.

–Laredo Kid vs. Lince Dorado vs. Aerostar vs. Jack Cartwheel for the AAA cruiserweight title has been added to the 10/25 show at Juan de la Barrera Gym.  In a match I never would have expected last month, hje 11/2 show in Monterrey has El Grande Americano Kaiser vs. Galeno del Mal.

–Sedriques Dumas is back in UFC for a fight with Donite Johnaon on 11/1 in Las Vegas.  You can look up a ton of articles on Dumas to know why using him is so controversial.

–There was a shocking photo of retired NJPW star Manabu Nakanishi.  He was famous for eating huge amounts of food.  He’s now unable to do so and has lost 66 pounds and honestly you would never recognize him.

Thursday Update

WWE

  • R-Truth told CBS Sports that he thinks it would have been a selfish move to continue going by Ron Killings instead of returning to his R-Truth character:
    • It went where it was supposed to go. Ron Killings created R-Truth. Those hundreds of millions of fans who spoke and up-roared. They wanted R-Truth back. Ron Killings was the rebellious one who spoke up for R-Truth.
    • Ron Killings has been around for years, but people had never come together in lockstep like that. They did that for R-Truth. You feel me?. I wanted Ron Killings to go where he was supposed to go. He made a statement; he had eyes on him. When John Cena came back, R-Truth came back. Ron Killings was the cavalry.
    • I think [Ron Killings] was a selfish-type deal, more of a selfish move. I had more than 100 million views that wanted R-Truth. If numbers are real, that was the power of numbers.
  • Bleacher Report and the New York Post also have interviews with Truth.
  • In the Bleacher Report interview, Truth was asked who he thinks can be the next John Cena in WWE:
    • Man, there’s a lot of guys. NXT is full of talent, man. Trick [Williams] is there, Carmelo [Hayes] is up here now, they got Je’Von [Evans], there’s so much talent there, man. I don’t want to, like, put no names or specific things on people, I like to just watch and let everything blossom and bloom. There’s a lot of things that a lot of people still have to pay attention to and see, as far as characters go, a lot of people still coming into their characters. But there’s gonna be guys, you’ll see another almost like Cena, you’ll see another almost like everybody else. But I don’t like to put no names on anybody, there’s a lot of them that you need to keep your eyes on.
  • Chelsea Green told Woman’s World magazine that she and Matt Cardona want to have children one day, but plans to do so are paused at the moment:
    • We put it on pause when I was asked to come back to WWE. This was an opportunity we both knew we could not turn down. If I turn it down, I’m going to end up having kids and resent the family life.
    • So here I am. I’m 34. I’m dying for babies. My husband wants babies… but duty calls. I’m making money. I’m living my dream. But hey, you never know. In a couple months, if it happens, God willing, it happens. I’ll just have to take my babies on the road with me!
  • Omos has partnered with cologne company Zaharoff to produce his own fragrance named “IBERE.”
  • New Evolve Women’s Champion Kendal Grey posted today:
    • Two years ago today, I walked into WWE not knowing what to expect. Now I can’t imagine my life without it.
    • The memories, the friendships, the lessons — all of it has meant so much, more than I can put into words. Just so grateful
  • The Miz appeared on Kittle Things with Claire & George Kittle.
  • Peter Rosenberg was a guest on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.
  • Rhea Ripley reacted to photos from throughout her career on a new episode of WWE Break It Down.

Other Wrestling

  • Jay White – who has been sidelined since March due to injury – returned to social media today after a long absence. He tweeted the following: “Ready?”
  • Bleacher Report asked Kris Statlander if she plans to go after the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles:
    • Absolutely. One of my trainers [Brian Myers] is a former tag team champion, so tag team wrestling, it’s not my bread and butter, but it’s something that I hold so near and dear to my heart.
    • I love love love a really good tag match more than anything in the world. To be able to carry that legacy from my trainer, and being the first woman to hold all three [AEW women’s] titles would be the most insane thing to ever happen.
    • I love being able to do the first of anything, but I also love being able to do anything at all that I have the privilege of doing.
    • We were all there when he ended his losing streak and they won the tag championships. Him and Matt Cardona. All of the students were there when that happened and it was such a really cool moment. It was a really special moment for all of us to be there for that.
  • The Battleground Podcast has an interview with The Young Bucks.
  • Denise Salcedo spoke with Jamie Hayter.
  • Orange Cassidy was a guest on Casuals with Katie Nolan.
  • This week’s AEW Unrestricted podcast is a WrestleDream preview episode.
  • Lio Rush will face off against Leon Cage at an event for Attack! Pro Wrestling in Cardiff on December 12.
  • Mickie James reflected on her induction into the TNA Hall of Fame:
    • Standing on that stage and being welcomed into the TNA Wrestling Hall of Fame was one of the most humbling and magical moments of my career.
    • Thank you to @ThisIsTNA & @RealJeffJarrett for giving a young Alexis Laree her first real opportunity & to @TNADixie for welcoming me back & helping bring #HardcoreCountry to life
    • Thank you @carlossilva for the incredible honor bestowed upon me & for a beautiful ceremony at such a historic event for the company
    • @THETOMMYDREAMER thank you for believing in me, for fighting for me, and for always seeing the woman and the wrestler I’ve tried to be.  To my sister, my ride-or-die, @REALLiSAMARiE [Victoria/Tara] thank you for inducting me — there’s no one else I’d rather share that moment with. You’ve been my partner in crime through it all, and I love you so much.
    • To the entire Knockouts Division — past, present, and future — you are the heart and soul of this company. You’ve broken barriers, told stories, and made magic every single time you stepped through those ropes. I’m so proud to stand beside you all.
    • And finally, to the fans — you’ve been with me through every high, every low, every reinvention and every return. Your love, your chants, your unwavering support… it means the world. I wouldn’t be here without you
    • This honor isn’t just mine — it’s ours.
  • A bridge located on Highway 8 near Calgary, Alberta, Canada has been named the “Stu Hart Memorial Bridge” in honor of the late Stu Hart. Bret Hart appeared at an official naming ceremony for the bridge and said the following:
    • When I think of the award or the honor of a bridge being named after my father, when I think of my dad, I think (of) someone that’s very strong, solid, sturdy as a rock.
    • In a lot of ways, it’s very symbolic for my father to be honoured with a bridge, because he was a bridge in many ways to so many people and so many things, from wrestling to just his roots in Canada, and his special pride with his wrestling product.

I instantly knew she was coming home with me.

Monday Update

–Bryan and I will be back tonight and there is a ton of news to talk about between today’s Raw,  King of Pro Wrestling, Bound for Glory and lots of other WWE stuff.  We have a Saturday night show covering Crown Jewel and part three of our Hall of Fame show covering non-wrestlers on the ballot.

–Obviously the big topic of discussion was the angle at the end of Raw tonight.  Given it’s a long trip home from Australia and everyone is en route right now, we probably won’t  have anything definitive until tomorrow or Wednesday.  We do know that people are being told.  Seth Rollins did have his arm in a sling before Raw and there are reports of a shoulder injury from the match with Cody Rhodes, but we don’t have them confirmed.  Whether that changed the booking  due to the injury or the booking changed based on a hot shot angle because most likely Raw today with its early start time would have done the lowest rating in the show’s history so they wanted something to make people tune in, that could be the case.  We were told yesterday that the ratings were very much an issue but if there’s a legit injury, obviously that would require a lot of changes in plans.  People are going to be skeptical, for good reason, about a Rollins injury.  I don’t think they’d go to the well there a second time so quickly but anything  is possible and it should all be clear soon.  A worst case scenario would involve having to do something with the title right after they had set up CM Punk, Jey Uso and LA Knight as contenders.

–One source with knowledge of creative said The Vision were booked for plans together through WrestleMania including with Austin Theory joining the group before things changed today.  They were told it was from an injury in the match with Cody Rhodes.  But after being told his other injury was legit, many are not fully believing anything right now.  In the attempt to work everyone, the belief in what those are being told, and there are multiple cases of this in recent months (the Rollins SNME injury being the one that really cost credibility with several in the room) the lack of trust right now is pretty high.

–Ridge Holland was told today that his contract isn’t being renewed when it expires on 11/14.  Given he was making main roster money and appearing on Evolve and TNA, this is not unexpected.  However, he suffered a broken foot and just had surgery.  Holland was told that they would pay for his medical bills and rehab until he recovers, but his regular paycheck ends in a month and as far as wrestling goes, we’re talking five months or more before he’d even be able to wrestle anywhere else.  I’m really surprised because the rule of thumb was always that for legal reasons you don’t let people go until they recuperate from injuries.  They’ve had non-renewals of an injured man and pregnant woman in the space of a few days .  It is a different mentality than before on this one.

–Some notes from today’s King of Pro Wrestling show.  Konosuke Takeshita beat Zack Sabre Jr.  to win the IWGP title in one of the best matches this year.  I’d say of all the contenders, this was the most complete.  Some had more moves.  One had more drama and storytelling.  Some had more face vs. heel heat.  But this was outstanding in every aspect of pro wrestling.

–After the show, Hirooki Goto challenged Takeshita for the title.  Takeshita talked about doing it before  the Tokyo Dome as he said he wanted one title defense before the Dome, and that would be Goto.  The show had four tremendous matches, with Yota Tsuji’s Global title win over  Gabe Kidd, Yuto-Ice & Oskar’s tag title defense over Yuya Uemura & Shota Uino and Syuri ‘s IWGP women’s title win over Sareee.  One of the year’s better shows.

–Other news is that they talked about Hiroshi Tanahashi & El Phantasmo becoming a tag team at the end of the year.  Bullet Club and The Unaffiliated (Tsuji, Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi & Titan) all shook hands after the Tsuji vs. Kidd match.  Tsuji and Kidd hugged after a tremendous match with a surprising submission finish by Tsuji.  David Finlay came out with Bullet Club and they teased that they would turn on Kidd for shaking hands, but instead, Finlay took hands with Tsuji and everyone shook hands.

–Tsuji did tease a title defense against Tanahashi.

–Aaron Wolf did a run-in saving Katsuya Murashima, Oleg Boltin and Masatora Yasuda from a beating by House of Torture.  He did some judo moves and later issued a challenge for Evil and the Never title for his debut at the Tokyo Dome.  Really, Evil is a good opponent for his first match.

–They announced a 2/27 show in Trenton,  NJ called New Beginning USA.  That means two things.   First, they  are still running U.S.shows after having backed away for months.  Second, the annual San Jose show at the start of the year looks like it’s not happening.

–BJ Penn was ordered to undergo a mental health exam and be evaluated as to whether he  is mentally competent enough to stand trial for his five arrests so far this year.

–That Je’Von Evans vs. Leon Slater booking was largely from WWE.

–We’re looking for your thoughts on these three shows:
*WWE Crown Jewel
*TNA Bound for Glory
*New Japan King of Pro Wrestling
We’re looking for a thumbs up thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match for each show to [email protected]

–Dana White today announced for the 12/6 UFC 323 show in Las Vegas, the last PPV for at least seven years, that Merab Dvalishvili will attempt to become the first champion in history to defend the title four times in a calendar year as he faces Petr Yan.  Alexadre Pantoja v.s. Joshua Van for the flyweight title, Henry Cejudo vs. Payton Talbott, and most likely Brandon Moreno vs  Tatsuro Taira are also on the show.

–As far as the best matches of the weekend, Takeshita vs. Sabre Jr., was something but also John Cena vs. AJ Styles from Saturday, The Sky Team vs. Cavernario & Angel de Or & Niebla Roja from Friday at Arena Mexico, and the other three big matches from King of Pro Wrestling as well as Iyo Sky & Rhea Ripley vs. Kairi  Sane & Asuka top the light.  I haven’t seen the TNA show but hopefully will at least see some of the matches in time for the show tonight.

–Tomorrow the ratings for Smackdown and last week’s Raw will come out most likely.  Raw for sure.  Our Raw article will also give us a good read on international viewing of Crown Jewel.

–NXT tomorrow has:
Lexis King vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.

–Magia Blanca worked the fourth match at Arena Mexico last night and then flew to Torreon for a bullring show with Mistico & Mascara Dorada & Neon vs. Bandido & Blanca & Gravity on top.  In Torreon they started the main event near midnight waiting for Blanca to arrive.  The other big story is that Bandido pinned Mistico to win the third fall.

–Pro Wrestling Revolucion from Saturday night in San Jose, CA before a sellout of 1,150 fans at Mount Pleasant High School:  Robin won three-way over Ray Star and Mirage, Hyan & Karsiam b Amazona & Lady Pink, El Cucuy b Rey Horus to win the PWR title (Cucuy is headed to Dragon Gate for three months), Templario won four-way over Jack Cartwheel,Viento and Rey Leon, Misterisos b Ultimo Guerrero-DQ,  Hechicero b Blue Panther

Other WWE talent represented by Paradigm include CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest, Sheamus, Rusev, Montez Ford, Natalya Neidhart, Liv Morgan, Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Alexa Bliss, and Blake Monroe.
  • PWInsider reports that Jazz and Ace Steel are guest coaching at the WWE Performance Center this week.
  • Cody Rhodes posted his WWE schedule for October:
    • October 10: SmackDown in Perth, Australia
    • October 11: Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia
    • October 17: SmackDown in San Jose, California
    • October 24: SmackDown in Tempe, Arizona
    • October 31: SmackDown in Salt Lake City, Utah
  • To promote Crown Jewel, Rhodes briefly appeared on ESPN First Take.
  • Bronson Reed told The West Australian that, despite getting hurt, he would still try the spot again where he was injured at Survivor Series 2024 hitting a Tsunami off the War Games cage through a table:
    • I feel like we’re sort of in that business where we have to take those risks.
    • That’s sort of what we do. But it’s calculated risks. I was not scared jumping off the top of that cage. I didn’t expect what was going to happen. But in a heartbeat, I’d do again. I just think I could nail it again and not hurt myself, hopefully.
    • In the moment, I had known that I had injured myself but I didn’t know to what severity. I actually stood up, walked out and went backstage. So, the doctors backstage didn’t think I had broken anything because I was walking around.
    • Then about an hour later, the pain set in, and I couldn’t stand up. And I was like, okay, something, something’s gone wrong here.
    • My leg was not allowed to be weight bearing for two-and-a-half months. I had to build up all the muscles in my leg again. I had to learn how to walk again on my right leg, and then run, and then jump, and then everything that we do in the ring as well.
    • So in the back of my mind, it was a little scary wondering ‘will I be able to get back to where I was or exceed where I was?’ Thankfully, I put in the hard work rehabbing, and now I’m better than ever.
  • Stephanie Vaquer, Grayson Waller, Nathan Frazer, and Axiom visited Perth Children’s Hospital while in Australia for Crown Jewel.
  • Nick Hogan made an Instagram post remembering his late father:
    • Just thinking about you Big Dog. I miss you.
    • I know it doesn’t make sense to post this on insta because he can’t see it but I wanted to share some photos that mean a lot to me.
    • I’d do anything to call my dad and just say hi.
  • Vince McMahon is scheduled for a court hearing in Stamford, Connecticut next Thursday (October 16) stemming from the July car accident where he was issued a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving and following too closely.
  • The Wrestling Classic has an interview with Kevin Nash.
  • To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, WWE and AAA luchadors participated in a video where they blind ranked lucha masks.
  • Today would have been Eddie Guerrero’s 58th birthday. Rey Mysterio and CM Punk are among those who took a moment to remember him on social media.

Other Wrestling

  • Bobby Horne – formerly known as Mo in the WWF stable Men on a Mission – is currently hospitalized with a blood infection and pneumonia:
    • Please keep Bobby “Sir Mo” Horne in your prayers.
    • He’s battling a severe blood infection & pneumonia and remains in the ICU. His wife Denise Jones is with him and they need all the love & strength the wrestling world can send.
  • On SiriusXM’s Off The Ropes with Jonathan Coachman & Nic Nemeth, TNA President Carlos Silva discussed how TNA can help younger talent get to WWE:
    • TNA is an interesting platform because we can bring and provide a new platform for legends that have already been in the game for 10 and 15 years-plus. But then we can also help to bring on the young talent. Look, is that talent at times gonna leave? Is that talent gonna wanna go to WWE if they’re younger talent? They are and I’ve said it and I’ve said it in our — Nic knows this, I will be the person that will help them as well, if that’s the path that is great. I also know that they’re gonna continue to support TNA and maybe come back to TNA some day, to continue creating this engine, and that’s how we’re gonna continue to operate.
  • Lio Rush vs. Mascara Dorada is set to take place at show two of Fantastica Mania UK on October 18. The show is being presented by RevPro and CMLL.
  • Indie promotion Warrior Wrestling announced that it will return with a Resurrection event in Chicago on December 5.

  • WWE uploaded the complete Hardy Boyz vs. DarkState match from NXT last night, which saw Matt & Jeff Hardy get the victory to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions. They will be defending both the NXT & TNA Tag Team titles against The Dudleys in a tables match at TNA Bound for Glory this Sunday.
  • PWInsider reported that the word at NXT last night was that WWE was looking to have TJP serve as a guest coach at the Performance Center later this month.

The live teleconference to discuss these results and provide a business update is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT the same day.
  • Xavier Woods confirmed that he has signed a new WWE contract: “How do yall know this stuff? I didnt say anything! But yes. You’re gonna see my sexy face for a while longer even though you dont deserve it. 22 years in the game and about to make the next bit even better than the rest. @WWE”
  • On ESPN’s Ahora o Nunca, Stephanie Vaquer reflected on winning the Women’s World Championship at Wrestlepalooza:
    • It was the best [match] of my career so far, and the result of the match was the dream of my life.
    • I’m proud because it wasn’t just a match for the most important championship, it was against one of the best in the world, Iyo Sky, someone I’ve admired for many years. So, the fact that I could compete for this title with her proved in the ring why we are both among the best in the world right now.
    • It was very emotional to reach gorilla after the match and have everyone applaud and congratulate me, not just the producers and coaches, but the people I work with every day. Someone as important as Triple H, who for me is not only my boss but someone I’ve admired for a long time, not only as a wrestler but also as a businessman now in charge of the WWE family.
  • The Miz is celebrating his 45th birthday today. On Instagram, John Cena gave a nod to his old rival by posting a photo of Miz.
  • WWE Vault put together a compilation video on the story of Raven’s Flock in WCW from 1997-1998.

Other Wrestling

  • On a new episode of her Close Up interview show, Renee Paquette spoke with AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander.
  • Adam Cole is part of the voice cast for the new video game “Curiosity” from DarkBear Studios that launched on Steam and Steam Deck starting today. Here is how the game is described:
    • In Curiosity, players embody a small but determined cat on a perilous climb home. Every leap requires precision, patience, and persistence: one mistake can send you tumbling down. With nine lives to spare (and consequences for losing them all), players must master every jump, uncover mysterious lore, and survive a journey that’s as emotional as it is demanding.
    • Drawing inspiration from titles like Only Up and Getting Over It, Curiosity offers a modern evolution of the genre: combining the viral tension of vertical climbing games with a rich story;  a hand-crafted world, and traditional platforming elements like secrets, collectibles, checkpoints, and even potential skips for the most daring players.
  • Bandido vs. Hechicero for the ROH World Championship is set to air on this Thursday’s episode of ROH TV. The match is from a CMLL event that took place on October 3 and is a rematch of their highly praised Death Before Dishonor title bout.
  • Sareee defending the IWGP Women’s Championship against Alex Windsor is among the other matches airing on Thursday’s ROH TV.
  • Here is the lineup for Thursday’s Bound for Glory go-home edition of TNA Impact:
    • TNA World Champion Trick Williams kicks off the show ahead of his Bound for Glory title defense against Mike Santana
    • No DQ match: Joe Hendry vs. Eric Young
    • Matt Cardona vs. Ryan Nemeth
    • Mustafa Ali vs. JDC
    • Bound for Glory contract signing with TNA Knockouts World Champion Kelani Jordan and Indi Hartwell
  • On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Scarlett Bordeaux said she felt WWE was “misogynistic” in how they handled her contract situation by saying that they would get to her new deal once Karrion Kross had sorted his contract out:
    • One of the last questions before the 24-hour notice was given, [Kross] asked where I stood in all these contract negotiations. And they said, ‘We’ll get to her once we’re done with you,’ which I took as them using me as leverage against him. I do feel like if he agreed within the 24 hours that they would have offered me something, would it have been the same amount as it was before? Would it have been less? I don’t know. But all in all, it felt like a massive, massive red flag, and I did feel like it did come off a bit misogynistic, because originally I was hired before [Kross], and the idea that I have no value without him, and it’s only determined by whether or not he signs, that came off as very misogynistic to me.

Monday Update

–Bryan and I will be back tonight with Wrestling Observer Radio, covering WWE future plans, Raw, the week upcoming, Rikidozan vs. Masahiko Kimura, Bandido vs. Hechicero and much more.

–Raw tonight is from Dallas.  It’s back to the 8 p.m. Eastern start time after the three week experiment at 7 p.m.  That experiment was not a ratings success but there are two more 7 p.m. shows in November.  Becky Lynch vs. Maxxine Dupri and Lyra Valkyria vs. Roxanne Perez were both announced plus Roman Reigns and CM Punk are on the show.  I expect the set up for Reigns’ next match.  They are just  shy of 11,000 tickets as of the latest tally.

–Tonight in Puebla has The Sky team defending the CMLL trios titles against Barboza & Difunto & Volador Jr.

–Most are of the belief that the Bandido injury on Friday is storyline, particularly now that he’s wrestling on Tuesday night.

–Tomorrow is a huge head-to-head battle.  NXT is on CW for a two hour show and AEW is on TBS for a two-and-a-half hour  show, I guess hoping that people will shift over for the last half hour.  It’s a notable thing if that in fact happens or not.  Remember ratings won;t be out until Thursday.

NXT has TNA vs. NXT Survivor Series elimination matches with  Ricky Starks & Trick Williams & Myles Borne & Je’Von Evans vs. Mike Santana & Leon Slater & Frankie Kazarian & Moose with Joe Hendry as referee and Jacy Jayne & Sol Ruca & Jaida Parker & Lola Vice vs. Kelani Jordan & the Iinspiration & Mara Sade with  Jordynne Grace as referee, plus Dion Lennox & Osiris Griffin vs. The  Hardys with both the TNA and NXT titles at stake, and Ethan Page vs. Mustafa Ali for the North American title.

AEW from Jacksonville has:
Brody King & Bandido vs. Konosuuke Taekshita & Kazuchika Okada with if King & Bandido win, the winner of the fall gets a shot at Okadsa’s unified title, but it Okada & Takeshita win, they get a tag title shot, Ricochet & Gates of Agony vs. Hurt Syndicate in a street fight, Kyle Fletcher vs. Kyle O’Reily for the TNT title, Jon Moxley vs. Tomohiro Ishii, Pac vs. Orange Cassidy, Mercedes Mone vs. ? for the TBS titel, and Luchasaurus & Jack Perry team together for the first time in three years.

–AEW announced an 11/15 Collision taping in Erie, PA and a 12/10 Dynamite taping in Atlanta at the Gateway Center Arena.

–Former ECW ring announcer Stephen DeAnglis is the casting director for a new play about Saturday Night Live.

–Merab Dvalishvili is trying to become the first UFC world champion to defend the title four times in a calendar year.  He said he wants to defend in December, perhaps against Petr Yan, coming off his win over Cory Sandhagen on Saturday night.  Dana White has indicated that he’s up for that idea.

–Kyoji Horiguchi said that he would face Tagir Ulanbekov on the 11/22 show in Qatar.

–Today would have been the 90th birthday of Bruno Sammartino.  It also would have been the 79th birthday of Don Ross/Ripper Savage, a bodybuilder turned wrestler who died young, and Rip Oliver would have turned 73.  I used to bump into Ross/Savage (he idolized Randy Savage) in the weirdest places since he lived in this area.  Barry Darsow turned 66 today and Dixie Carter turned 61.  Gorilla Monsoon died 26 years ago today.  The Kevin & Kerry Von Erich double hair match win over Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez that drew 26,000 fans to the Cotton Bowl took place 40 years ago today.  (thanks to Tony Richards)

–The cast of TLC’s 1,000 pound  sisters will be at the 10/18 Hooligan Championship Wrestling taping in Evansville, IN.  Shane Mercer defending the HCW title against Tim Bosby headlines the show.

Friday Update

Part two of our Hall of Fame series covering international candidates and the Mexico ballot with Phil Lions, John Muse and  Ethan Tyler will be up on the site shortly.  Garrett Gonzalez and I covered the news including what happened over the past week that in the long run could greatly change the economics of wrestling.  We will be back tomorrow night covering the weekend shows and UFC,.

–The new Nielsen methodology for television ratings is a disaster for pro wrestling.  The move is basically complete and from this point forward we’ll be getting it based on the new numbers.  AEW did 465,000 viewers and 0.09 for the anniversary show, down 32 percent from last week under the old method from 0.14.  These numbers don’t include HBO MAX.  The Yankees-Red Sox game hurt it but it’s more the change.  NXT was also down 41 percent from the prior Tuesday going from 0.17 to 0.10.  Smackdown was also down heavy, but more in viewers than 18-49, which went from 0.37 to 0.35.

–The last 30 minutes did hurt the show but even so, in the regular two hours it was 0.10.  The second hour had a big drop from the first which also could relate to the baseball game.  Male numbers were incredibly down.  As for where it hurt most, males 18-34 were down 66 percent,  Women 18-34 were down 57 percent, males 35-49 were down 27 percent nd wmen 35-49 were up 16 percent.  Baseball should have accounted for a small part of that, but it was also the anniversary show.  NXT also did terribly with 18-34, doing an 0.06 and AEW did even worse at 0.04.  While nothing in reality has changed, these numbers are going to be viewed over the long term with the conclusion young people don’t watch wrestling and that’s a very bad conclusion when the vast majority of revenue comes from television.

–Smashing Machine starts tonight nationally.  It debuted in a lot of places last night.  It has a 73 percent positive critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  I’ve heard a lot of good things about the acting debut of Ryan Bader, who played Mark Coleman.  Also heard that the person who played Paul Varelans was even worse casting than the guy who played Ric Flair in Iron Claw.

–US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem  said this  about sometimes WWE performer Bad Bunny working the Super Bowl.  “The NFL sucks and we’ll win and God will bless us and we’ll stand and be proud of ourselves at the end of the day and they won’t be able to sleep at night because they don’t know what they believe and they’re so weak.  We’ll fix it.”

–Arthur Jones, a former NFL star with the Baltimore Ravens and older brother of Jon Jones passed away today at the age of 39.  No cause of death was announced.  Arthur was a two-time state heavyweight wrestling champion as well as a football star, got his brother into wrestling.

–Bandido defends the ROH title tonight at Arena Mexico against Hechicero in a rematch of one of the best matches this year.  I believe this is the first time an American based world title match was rematched at Arena Mexico based on reaction to the quality of the match.  It is not the main event, as it’s women’s month so every Friday night main event will be a women’s match.  The first round of the CMLL Universal women’s tournament starts tonight with Catalina, LLuvia, India Sioui, Princesa Sugehit, Olympia and Candela.

–1980s woman wrestler Sabrina passed away from cancer at the age of 64.  Her real name was Doris Whitlock.  She did take the name from the comic book character Sabrina the Teenage Witch.  She had a short career as part of Moolah’s stable, working and touring the country in 1982 and 1983 before going into real estate (thanks to Ken Raftery) There is a Go Fund Me for funeral expenses.

–UFC 320 is tomorrow in Las Vegas with two title bouts
6-8 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+ and FX
Veronica Hardy (125.5) vs. Brogan Walker (124.5)
Ramiz Brahimag (170.5) vs. Austin Vanderford (170.5)
Punahele Soriano (170.5) vs. Nikolay Veretennikov (170.5)
Patchy Mix (136) vs. Jakub  Walker (136)
Macy Chiasson (137.5) vs.  Yana Santos (135) – Chiasson was fined 25 percent of her purse for missing weight by 1.5 pounds
ESPN+/FX/ESPN News at 8 p.m. Eastern
Daniel Santos (151) vs. Joo Sang Yoo (152.5)
Chris Gutierrez (136) vs. Farid Basharat (135)
Edmen Shahbazyan (185.5) vs. Andre Muniz (185.5)
Ateba Gautier (186) vs. Treston Vines (185)
PPV at 10 p.m. Eastern
Abus Magomedov (185.5) vs. Joe Pyfer (186)
Josh Emmett (146) vs.  Youssef Zalal (146)
Jiri Prochazka (206) vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. (205)
Merab Dvalishvili (135) vs. Cory Sandgagen (134.5) for the bantamweight title
Magomed Ankalaev (204.5) vs. Alex Pereira (204.5) for the light heavyweight title

–Crown Jewel next Saturday will be airing at 2 p.m. local time in each time zone rather than live at movie theaters through Fandango.  They have been airing recent shows live, but because live is 8 a.m. Eastern and 5 a.m. Pacific, the decision was made to air it at 2 p.m. in every time zone.

–AEW Collision was taped last nigth and airs at 7 p.m., one hour early, on TNT Eastern time.  It airs at 4 p.m., four hours early, Pacific time.  I shudder to think of what the ratings will be at an unfamiliar time:
Kevin Knight vs. Dax Harwood
Jon Moxley &  Claudio Castagnoli & Daniel Garcia vs. Adam Priest & Tommy Billingtn & Jay Lethal
Rush & Sammy Gueveraa vs. Cha Cha Charlie & Shane Stetson
Eddie Kingston vs. Dralistico
Konosuke Takeshita & Josh Alexander & Kyle Fletcher vs. MxM Collection & Johnny TV
Jamie Hayter vs. Anna Jay
Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly vs. Hechicero & Lance Archer & Rocky Romero

–Steven Bordern, El Hijo del Sting, makes his pro wrestling debut at 52 Walker, for an art gallery show in Downtown Manhattan put on by Darby Allin.

–More bad news regarding hotel rates for WrestleMania in April in Las Vegas.  They  already rose with the announcement of  2027 in Saudi Arabia with the idea there will be more demand to attend this year because most won’t be going next year.  The National Associationof Broadcasters is also doing theri convention that same week and that convention usually sells out almost all the hotel rooms in the city.

–The WWE LFG finals are Sunday at 10 p.m. on A&E with Penina Tuilaepe vs. Danii Sekelsky and Drake Morreaux vs. Harlem Lewis.  Lewis is currently in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH.

–There will be a Jumping Bomb Angels 40th anniversary event with Itsuka Yamazaki and Noriyo Tateno on 12/1 at Shinjuku Face in Tokyo.  The Crush Gals and Dump Matsumoto, rivals of the JB Angels, will be appearing.  The JB Angels were a big hit in WWF in the 80s in matches with Judy Martin & Leilani Kai, who usually blew away every match on the show when they toured.

–Leon Slater had to pull  out of Sunday’s RevPro show in London due to commitments likely related to TNA.  Luke Jacobs will now face a mystery opponent.

–Mistico vs. Michael Oku headlines 10/18 for RevPro Fantastica Mania at The Hanger in Wolverhampton.  There will also be an afternoon show with CMLL talent headlined by Chris Ridgeway vs. Hechicero.

–The Sky Team of Mistico & Mascara Dorada & Neon defend the CMLL trios titles against Barboza & Difunto & Volador Jr. on Monday night in Puebla.  Volador Jr’s team beat them on Monday in a non-title match to set this up.

–The mayor of Gomez Palacio in Mexico honored Blue Panther this week.

–Eddie Hall, the former world’s strongest man, said he would like to do a fight against either Dwayne Johnson or Jason Momoa.

–Bret Hart announced that his daughter, Jade, has won her fight with breast cancer.

–The Raven documentary “Nevermore” is coming to Amazon Prime Video on 11/18.

–Indi Hartwell vs. Jayda Steel for the HOG women’s title takes place on 10/10 at the NYC Arena, along with Leon Slater vs. Amazing Red, Killer Kross vs. Matt Cardona, Zilla Fatu vs. Bear Bronson, Mane Event vs. Hardys for the HOG & TNA tag titles and Charles Mason vs. Man Like DeReiss for the HOG men’s title

    • Recently we had been on Discord playing StarCraft 2 co-op together and he was enrolled in classes at the University of Cincinnati.
    • He was a veteran who suffered from issues after surviving some traumatic events while serving in Afghanistan.
    • He loved his country, his last Facebook post was this:
    • ‘Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.’ —Franklin D. Roosevelt
    • Some words to live by…
    • The battle with your demons is now over brother.
    • Rest in Peace Jesse Morgan
  • In recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bret Hart shared a video from his daughter Jade, who successfully completed cancer treatment in 2024:
    • I’m so immensely proud and joyful that my daughter Jade has triumphantly battled breast cancer with a courage and strength that will always define her. As a cancer survivor myself, I can’t begin to express how grateful I am, that my beautiful daughter Jade has won her fight. She proved that faith and love can beat anything when one’s heart is full. I am so proud beyond words.
    • I wanted to share this video she made for #breastcancerawarnessmonth as a reminder to everyone that early detection is the best protection. Please remember to self examine and schedule your mammogram.
  • Charlotte Flair appeared on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football today and will be attending tonight’s Thursday Night Football game between the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. At the game, Charlotte and her father Ric Flair will serve as honorary Rampede Captains:
    • Retired professional wrestler RIC FLAIR and second-generation professional wrestler Charlotte Flair will get fans on their feet and kick off the game as the honorary Rampede Captains.
  • AFL Today interviewed Bronson Reed.
  • Fashion designer Kristin Juszczyk was the guest on the latest episode of “What’s Your Story?” with Stephanie McMahon.

Other Wrestling

  • AEW aired a video package on Dynamite last night celebrating the show’s anniversary and its first six years.
  • Will Ospreay thanked chicken restaurant Nando’s for sending him a care package as he recovers from neck surgery:
    • Never cried over food before…
    • Didn’t expect such a lovely gift from someone that works in @NandosUK near me.
    • Whoever done this…genuinely thank you so much for the love
    • Super hard right now but this hit me in the feels.
    • Your chicken gives me strength.
  • TNA President Carlos Silva spoke to TV Insider about the NXT-TNA relationship and next week’s Showdown special:
    • Working with the NXT folks as well as WWE folks has been very easy. There has been great coordination. We’ve kind of supported each other with last-minute asks on both sides, which I think is a testament to a good partnership. It’s not just one asking. We might ask, or they might ask, and we always find a way to move things forward. This big Showdown episode of NXT happening down in Orlando is going to be great. You saw it on The CW live with the teams sort of aligning. I think the theme is building. There is also intrigue and maybe a little strangeness the way certain teammates are on each team, but they have certain alliances and allegiances to the other organization. Whether they’ve come from that organization or been there or holding the belt from one organization even though they work for the other. I think all of that there. I think as a result it’s going to be awesome Tuesday night on NXT down in Orlando.
  • Silva reiterated that he wants TNA Impact to air more live episodes in 2026:
    • All of us that are new to the organization are live sports and entertainment executives. I brought in a new executive producer in George Veras, and he is working closely with Eric Tompkins (VP of TV production and executive creative director) and our team down in Nashville. We all want to do more live. We’re all live guys. So, I think building TNA and continuing to be healthy as an organization gives us the ability to do more live. In a perfect world, I’d love to be live every week. But there are different operational implications and budgets to being live every week including a place to do some of them because you’re probably not going to be traveling 52 weeks a year. The short answer is we’re going to continue to do more live in 2026 and lay out that schedule right now. The talent responds to live in a way that is great also. They all tell us, so we want to continue to build this all together and do more live in 2026.
  • German promotion wXw has ended its relationship with wrestler Marius Al-Ani after he posted a social media video using a Nazi marching song. Along with cutting ties with him, wXw has vacated the European Championship at Al-Ani held.
  • In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Tetsuya Naito gave an update on how he’s feeling after working back-to-back dates for wXw and RevPro at the end of September:
    • After leaving New Japan, I did feel like I wasn’t wrestling enough. This time, wrestling back-to-back matches brought back that familiar ache in my body. It felt nostalgic. That’s when I realized, ‘This is what being a pro wrestler is all about.’ I want to get back in the ring soon, and there are so many countries that haven’t seen pro wrestling yet. I want to show people all over the world the real Tetsuya Naito.
  • Naito has matches coming up in Hong Kong this month and Singapore in November, with Tokyo Sports writing that more are “expected to be added, primarily in Asia and Europe.”
  • Daisuke Sekimoto is out of action with a broken leg.
  • Women’s promotion Genesis Premier League announced that it has signed Leyla Hirsch and Abaddon to its roster.
  • Indi Hartwell will be defending her House of Glory Women’s Championship against Zayda Steel at With Glory Comes Pride in Queens, New York on October 10.
  • Chris Van Vliet interviewed MMA legend Mark Kerr on a new edition of Insight.

WWE

Other Wrestling

  • Amid her ongoing absence from AEW programming, Britt Baker sent out the following message on X/Twitter yesterday: “We’re always so quick to burn the trolls on this app, but never quick enough to appreciate the true fans who show love every day. Thank you”
  • Tony Khan spoke to Forbes about AEW introducing Women’s Tag Team titles:
    • I’m very excited about the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship coming to AEW this year. Throughout 2025, the women’s division has been delivering more great matches and rivalries than ever before, and so many top stars have continued to emerge.
    • We’ve had amazing signings, like Mercedes Mone, who came in as a free agent and is now the TBS Champion, and if you look back a few years, Toni Storm joined AEW and went on to become one of our greatest champions. Along the way, we’ve added so many talented faces. Kris Statlander, who’s been here from the early years, has become a top star in her own right.
    • More recently, we’ve also seen the rise of some very interesting and very talented women’s tag teams. With the roster at its strongest, the highest quality it’s ever been, I think now is the perfect time to introduce the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships. Women’s wrestling in AEW is the best it’s ever been, and these titles will make it even stronger.
  • During an interview with Undisputed, Anthony Bowens listed the five best moments he’s ever had on AEW Dynamite:
    • Winning the tag team titles [September 2022] – ‘We won the belts on Dynamite, a night I’ll always remember.’
    • Dynamite debut [December 2020] – ‘Our first match ever has to belong on this list, and that was against SCU.’
    • Main-eventing against the Young Bucks [December 2020] – ‘The fans got to see our entire journey, beginning from when we were paired together on DARK and didn’t have the same gear yet. This was a big step for us, a tag team title shot a couple months into the company.’
    • Main-eventing against Sting [January 2022] – ‘Sting is one of my heroes, so wrestling him in Washington, DC was very significant for me.’
    • National Scissoring Day [October 2022] – ‘This would be incomplete without National Scissoring Day. That was a very interesting day. It was trending all day, and it cemented us as stars.’
  • Will Ospreay named his Mount Rushmore of cruiserweight wrestlers: Rey Mysterio, Hayabusa, Naomichi Marufuji, and Dragon Kid.
  • Ricochet also listed his choices: Mysterio, Hayabusa, Jushin Thunder Liger, and Amazing Red.
  • Without revealing her destination, IWGP Women’s Champion Sareee posted an image teasing that she’s heading overseas for something.
  • Go Shiozaki spoke to Tokyo Sports about his future now that he’s departed Pro Wrestling NOAH:
    • I still don’t know where I’ll go. However, Go Shiozaki’s matches will remain the same, even if they evolve. I want to find a ring where I can bring out Go Shiozaki. I think that no matter which promotion I go to, I’ll be able to feel a fresh fight. That’s why I want to do things that can only be experienced as a freelancer.
  • An MLW Middleweight Championship match is set to take place on the TV taping portion of Slaughterhouse 2025 in Long Beach, California on October 4. It will be Templario defending his title against Virus.
  • Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno have been announced for GCW’s Dream On show at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey on November 22.
  • Busted Open Radio has an interview with new TNA Hall of Famers The Beautiful People (Angelina Love & Velvet Sky).
  • SoCal Val interviewed Bishop Dyer for WrestlingNewsCo.

Monday Update

AEW Dynamite 6th Anniversary Start Times

–We have part one of our Hall of  Fame show from the weekend with Garrett Gonzales and Bryan and I were up last night talking the news.  Bryan and I will be back up tonight talking tody’s news, and there is a ton of it, as well as Raw and more from the weekend.

–Raw started one hour earlier today at 7 p.m. Eastern for the third week of the three-week experiment.  Right now with the rating for just the first week in, it would show 8 p.m. as the best time but there are two more ratings to come.  There are 7 p.m. starts scheduled for the November Raws from Boston and Madison Square Garden but it goes back to 8 p.m. next week.  Announced are the Usos vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed in a tornado match, Dominik Mysterio vs. Rusev for the IC title,Bayley vs. Raquel Rodriguez, AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs. Los Gran Americanos (presumably Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne) plus Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley are advertised.  The show is from Raleigh.  They had 9,673 tickets out as of this morning.  I don’t think it will sell out but it’s still a very big crowd.

–We’re looking for reports from Raleigh tonight as far as anything not on the live show such as Main Event or dark matches to [email protected]

–We’re looking for your thoughts from Saturday’s NXT No Mercy, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

–The updated card for Wednesday’s two-and-a-half hour Dynamite sixth anniversary show from Hollywood, FL has Kyle Fletcher vs. Orange Cassidy for the TNT title,   Adam Page & Samoa Joe & Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli & Daniel Garcia, Kris Statlander & Darby Allin vs. Marina Shafir & Wheeler Yuta, Brody King & Bandido & Kenny Omega vs. Young Bucks & Josh Alexander, the return of Jurassic Express plus Toni Storm.

–Dwayne Johnson will be on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night to promote “The Smashing Machine,” which gets released on Friday.

–If it wasn’t made clear, the WWE web site evidently screwed up and listed it as Lainey Reid who helped Jacy Jayne retain her title against Lola Vice on Saturday.  They later corrected it and removed the name.  Reid was pulled from the Sol Ruca match on the show and then inserted into the main event angle.  There has been talk of her as the third member of Fatal Influence.

–Titan is headed to New Japan during the October tour.

–There will be live wrestling matches on 10/3 and 10/10 at the 52 Walker Gallery , an art Gallery in Downtown Manhattan, featuring Darby Allin and live music.  Among those who will be on the events are Killer Kross, AR Fox, Timothy Thatcher and the debuting  Steven Borden, who is the son of Sting who appeared at last year’s Revolution show.  Allin has been training Borden.

–Neon  & Volador Jr. beat Mortos  Bandido in the main event at Arena Mexico last night.  It was a rudo and tecnico team on both sides.

–Regarding Edris Enofe leaving WWE as he announced a few hours ago, those in WWE have confirmed it was his decision to go and not a company decision, even though he had not been booked for a match since July.

–Faby Apache was added to the 10/25 Flammer vs Natalya Reina de Reinas title match in Mexico City because she beat Flammer in a non-title match on Saturday night.

–Electronic Arts was sold to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, Affinity Partners and Silver Lake (the money behind Endeavor/UFC’s purchase) in what was said to be the largest deal ever for a company in that genre.

–Bad Bunny was announced as one of the halftime stars at the Super Bowl this year.  This news brought about some of the worst dregs of society commenting negatively about a foreigner (Puerto Rico is a US territory) being allowed to perform at the Super Bowl.

–Brian Solomon’s book on the life of Gorilla Monsoon, “The Irresistible Force,” will be released tomorrow.  I expect it to be excellent.

–Maple Leaf Wrestling on 10/27 in Toronto at the New Age Experience Center, on a Monday night, to benefit REENA, a nonprofit supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.  Matt Hardy, Carlito, Micorman and Gisele Shaw have been announced.

– CMLL announcer and part of creative Julio Cesar Rivera will be at the MLW show on 10/4 in Long Beach, CA. He will be doing interviews and commentary on the show.

– SmackDown tonight on USA is from Orlando, FL. In a trivia note, WWE actually has three shows going on in the same vicinity tonight with SmackDown in Orlando, an Evolve taping in Orlando at the PC and an NXT house show in Citrus Springs, FL. Tiffany Stratton defends the women’s title in a three-way against Jade Cargill and Nia Jax. The winner faces Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel. Also tonight has a Sami Zayn U.S. title open challenge and Giulia & Kiana James vs. Michin & B-Fab. They had 9,100 tickets out for the show at last look.

– Originally Mistico was listed as working three shows yesterday. He did work the first two, but was not at the Arena Neza show. In fact, nobody but Star Jr. from CMLL was at the show. Not sure what happened. The crowd was not told until late in the show that the talent wasn’t going to be there at the Neza show.

– There’s a carriage issue with YouTube TV and NBCU. The contract between the sides expires on Tuesday. The hold-up is money, of course, as YouTube wants Peacock as part of its package and the two sides have not reached an agreement yet.

– CMLL has Noche de Campeones (Night of Champions) tonight with all the matches voted by the fans. Normally this does not draw well even though you would think it should. With the company as hot as it is, we’ll see how this does. They did draw a sellout 16,000 fans last night for the Pokemon Legend tie-in show. For tonight:

Thursday Update

WWE

  • While appearing on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, The Miz said CM Punk seems like a different and happier person this WWE run:
    • Seeing him come back, it’s been interesting. Because I remember before, like I remember driving with him, but I also remember when he was at the tail end and it didn’t seem like he was a happy person.
    • And now I see him backstage and it’s a different person than I remember. He seems very happy. I wouldn’t even say complacent because he’s always competitive and always wants to be number one. But also is in a position where he’s teaching a lot, and there are not many of us who have been here for 20 years and have been able to teach, and learn, and adapt. So it’s cool to see the change and happiness, right? Because you want happiness for everyone.
  • Jeff Hardy – who is currently with TNA Wrestling – told the I Love Wrestling Podcast that one of his goals is winning the NXT Tag Team titles with his brother Matt:
    • I meditate and I manifest a lot. As pro wrestlers, you know, we manifest the near future all the time. I kind of medi-fest these days. Over a year ago – if not two years ago – I kind of was meditating and manifesting the thought of us showing up in NXT. And sure enough, that eventually happened. Definitely, for me, to be the NXT champions is on my list of things to accomplish.
  • The Undertaker & Alexa Bliss will be featured as operator skins on the Call of Duty: Mobile game starting next Wednesday.
  • Sports Illustrated has an interview with Lola Vice.
  • WWE Vault uploaded the full Bashed in the USA Coliseum Home Video featuring Undertaker vs. Yokozuna, Razor Ramon vs. Big Boss Man, Bret Hart vs. Rick Martel, and more.
  • Logan Paul shared a new vlog.

Other Wrestling

  • On social media, AEW provided a better look at the new Women’s Tag Team title belts that were unveiled last night.
  • Mercedes Mone indicated that she wants to add the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles to her belt collection, sending a tweet asking who her partner is going to be.
  • Jerry Lynn named MJF, Ricochet, Will Ospreay, and Bryan Keith as some of the wrestlers from AEW he would like to face if he were still able to compete.
  • Capt. Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo of The Infantry appeared on AEW Unrestricted this week.
  • MLW has announced Matt Riddle vs. Alex Hammerstone for the promotion’s Slaughterhouse event in Long Beach, California on October 4.
  • Marigold sent out a message stating that the promotion will be making an announcement late tonight: “We will be announcing breaking news right here on X at 12:00 PM JST on Friday, September 26, 2025. Please be sure to check it out. 11PM Eastern Thursday 8PM Pacific Thursday 4AM BST”
  • Shotzi Blackheart was the guest on the latest episode of Saraya’s Rulebreakers podcast.
  • For his YouTube channel, Matt Cardona produced his own version of a WWE Unreal episode, documenting a recent GCW show that he competed at.
  • After domestic violence allegations against Masha Slamovich were made public, her former partner AKIRA sent out a message thanking everyone for their support. He asked that fans not direct ill will toward Slamovich despite her alleged physical and emotional abuse toward him:
    • I appreciate everyone who has come to my defense. I still have concern for my ex partner and despite what others may say, I want to forgive. I do.
    • I don’t hate her. I don’t wish her ill will.
    • I would have held it close to my chest and never have said anything, but I am thankful for people messaging me and telling their stories. I have grown a great deal, and I hope others do too with whatever they get out of my past.
    • However, please do NOT wish ill will, enough of that has been said and it’s been hard to detach. I loved her and still love her in the bottom of my heart and anyone pushing her to do something drastic, needs to learn the art of forgiveness.
    • I believe that she has good in her and that she will evolve in a positive way. I believe that she is one of the best wrestlers I’ve been blessed to meet. I want her to grow as a Human and I want her to continue her work as a wrestler when she finally becomes that person.
    • The woman I loved was put on this earth to be a wrestler, and I would never see her do anything but that.
    • We live life and we fail. We all have. We must take accountability and repent for those actions in which we hurt others, but I believe in forgiveness and change. If we don’t have that in this world, we have nothing. I believe there is good in people and good in the world, and despite everything I still believe in the good in her.
    • She taught me many things about myself during and after, and the person I became after it is finally someone I can look in the mirror and see doing the things i aspire to.
    • Do not wish pain and suffering. Wish for change and accountability. Be better than the people who live within the world and bring nothing but pain to it.
    • I am not asking for idle hands or recompense. I am asking to remember that in order for people to learn, we must remember it’s about second chances.
    • ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.’ Ephesians 4:32
