CIMA signs full-time contract with AEW

CIMA’s in-ring involvement with All Elite Wrestling will extend past his match at Double or Nothing.

On this week’s episode of Being the Elite, it was announced that CIMA has signed a full-time contract with AEW. The announcement was made by The Young Bucks, who said they want to work with people who have helped them along the way. The Young Bucks credited CIMA for giving them their first big break in pro wrestling by booking them in Dragon Gate after seeing them in PWG early in their careers.

CIMA and two partners from China’s Oriental Wrestling Entertainment will face SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) in a six-man tag match at Double or Nothing in Las Vegas on May 25.

AEW’s partnership with OWE was announced at January’s Double or Nothing rally, with Matt Jackson saying that AEW would be bringing in CIMA’s Strong Hearts group. CIMA then made an appearance at February’s ticket announcement party for Double or Nothing.

This week’s Being the Elite is available to watch below. It ends with a tease of AEW hiring the Super Smash Bros (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson):

Former Knockouts Champion Allie signs with All Elite Wrestling

All Elite Wrestling has announced a new member of its roster.

On this week’s Road to Double or Nothing episode, it was revealed that Allie has signed with AEW. She was announced as Allie but has also wrestled as Cherry Bomb during her career.

Former WWE seamstress Sandra Gray made an appearance in the Road to Double or Nothing video and worked with Allie on her gear.

Allie has held Impact Wrestling’s Knockouts Championship twice. She’s recently played “Dark Allie” in Impact, with her being possessed by Su Yung in storyline and Rosemary and Kiera Hogan fighting to get her back.

Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that Sadie Gibbs has also signed with AEW. Allie and Gibbs join Britt Baker, Penelope Ford, Kylie Rae, Nyla Rose, and Bea Priestley in the women’s division. Aja Kong and Yuka Sakazaki have been announced as wrestling at Double or Nothing.

AEW reveals date and venue for Fight for the Fallen

All Elite Wrestling has revealed the date and venue for their second show.

At the end of this week’s Being the Elite, it was announced that AEW Fight for the Fallen will take place at the Daily’s Place Amphitheatre in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, July 13. The venue is connected to TIAA Bank Field (the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars) and has a listed capacity of 5,550.

Matt Jackson said tickets for Fight for the Fallen will be available “soon.”

Fight for the Fallen was first announced at January’s AEW rally. It was noted that the show would take place in Jacksonville and a large portion of the gate would go toward benefiting victims of gun violence.

Bea Priestley is set to make her AEW debut at Fight for the Fallen.

Fight for the Fallen is taking place one week after the opening night of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Climax. The American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas will host the first night of this year’s G1 on Saturday, July 6.

Cody Rhodes to appear at AAA Rey de Reyes

On the day of this month’s Double or Nothing ticket announcement party, All Elite Wrestling revealed that they’re partnering with Lucha Libre AAA.

That was followed up on today, with it being announced that Cody Rhodes will appear at AAA’s Rey de Reyes in Puebla, Mexico on Saturday, March 16. The news was announced via a video from Cody.

Cody noted that AAA wrestlers will be part of Double or Nothing in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 25.

Cody is currently out of action after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on February 12 to repair tears in his meniscus. He isn’t scheduled to wrestle until Double or Nothing.

AAA is the second promotion that AEW has announced a partnership with. They’re also working with China’s Oriental Wrestling Entertainment, with SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) set to face Cima and two partners from OWE in a six-man tag match at Double or Nothing.

Bea Priestley to make AEW debut at Fight for the Fallen

All Elite Wrestling made a few announcements on episode five of their Road to Double or Nothing video series.

Bea Priestley is set to join AEW at the promotion’s Fight for the Fallen show in Jacksonville, Florida. That event was first announced at AEW’s Double or Nothing rally, with it being noted that a large portion of the gate will go to benefiting victims of gun violence.

Episode five of the Road to Double or Nothing revealed that Fight for the Fallen will take place in July.

Priestley is from the United Kingdom, and Stardom, World of Sport, PROGRESS, and Pro Wrestling: EVE are among the promotions she has wrestled for.

AEW also announced a partnership with KultureCity that will begin with making Double or Nothing the “first sensory-inclusive wrestling event in history.” KultureCity will provide training to staff at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and packets will be supplied with items to help those who struggle to process sensory information at large events.

Episode five of the Road to Double or Nothing is available to watch below:

Over Budget Battle Royale returning for AEW Double or Nothing

One of the match types from All In is returning for All Elite Wrestling’s first show.

Episode four of AEW’s “Road to Double or Nothing” series was uploaded today. It was announced that the Over Budget Battle Royale is returning for Double or Nothing, with Sonny Kiss, United Kingdom wrestler Kip Sabian, and Brandon Cutler being spotlighted as three of the entrants for the match.

Cody Rhodes mentioned that they have a “really great incentive” for the battle royal winner but said he can’t speak about that now.

Kiss made his first appearance for AEW at this month’s ticket announcement party. Cutler is returning to the Over Budget Battle Royale after having been an entrant in last year’s match.

The first Over Budget Battle Royale aired on the “Zero Hour” portion of All In. Flip Gordon, who wasn’t announced for the match in advance, entered dressed as Chico El Luchador and eliminated Bully Ray to win. Gordon received an ROH World Championship shot against Jay Lethal on the All In main card as a stipulation of winning the battle royal.

Double or Nothing is taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 25.

All Elite Wrestling partnering with Lucha Libre AAA

All Elite Wrestling has formed a partnership with Mexico’s Lucha Libre AAA.

Ahead of tonight’s Double or Nothing ticket announcement party, AEW and AAA uploaded a video confirming the relationship between the companies. In the video, AAA’s Dorian Roldan said that AEW and AAA’s alliance will present new surprises to the fans. He also said that there will be an exchange of talent between the promotions.

Cody Rhodes then commented on the AEW-AAA partnership at the ticket announcement party. He said AAA’s mission of providing the best lucha libre with an emphasis on modern stars stands up next to AEW’s mission of providing fans with the best sports-centric pro wrestling show on the planet.

The AEW-AAA alliance is an interesting move politically given the partnership that exists between New Japan Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and CMLL.

This is the second partnership with another promotion that AEW has announced. At last month’s Double or Nothing rally, Matt Jackson revealed that AEW is working with China’s Oriental Wrestling Entertainment.

AAA also has a working relationship with Impact Wrestling.

AEW announces details for Double or Nothing ticket party

All Elite Wrestling issued a press release today hyping next week’s Double or Nothing ticket announcement party.

The ticket announcement party will take place at the Splash Pool at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada at 9 p.m. Eastern time (6 p.m. Pacific) on Thursday, February 7. AEW is promoting that Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, and Brandi Rhodes will “reveal spectacular new signings, exciting new partnerships, ticket on-sale information, and a surprise special guest” at the party.

Hangman Page and SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky) are also advertised as appearing.

This week’s episode of Being the Elite ended with a cliffhanger where a countdown clock began for Kenny Omega. It ends on the day of the ticket party.

The ticket announcement party will be open to fans on a first come, first served basis. It will stream live on the Being the Elite YouTube channel, AEW’s Twitter account, The Young Bucks’ Facebook page, and Brandi’s Instagram.

Double or Nothing is taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, May 25.

“We promised to change the wrestling landscape in 2019, and it’s already starting to shift,” Cody Rhodes said in the press release. “Our roster is growing every day with awesome acquisitions, we’re gathering incredible momentum among our fanbase, and we’re poised to sell out the Double or Nothing event in record speed. Whether you can join us in person next week or plan to follow the news socially, get ready to party with us on February 7, and let’s start the countdown to Double or Nothing on May 25.”

VIDEO: The Elite appear at Bar Wrestling show

Following last week’s AEW Double or Nothing rally, The Young Bucks, Cody & Brandi Rhodes, and Hangman Page all showed up at Bar Wrestling’s show in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday night.

The event was headlined by fellow AEW wrestlers SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) facing the RockNES Monsters (Johnny Yuma & Kevin Martenson) & Eric Watts in a six-man tag match. The match led to an angle where Joey Ryan stopped Watts from hitting Sky with a chair, and Page, Cody & Brandi, and The Young Bucks all ended up making saves. Referee Rick Knox counted the pin for SCU after they hit the Best Meltzer Ever.

Page made a save for Ryan, with them teaming up and shaking hands after the storyline on Being the Elite where Page “murdered” Ryan.

SCU, Cody & Brandi, The Young Bucks, Page, and Ryan stayed in the ring after the main event, with Kazarian closing the show by leading the crowd in an “SCU” chant.

The Elite appearing at Bar Wrestling had been teased on Twitter prior to the show.

Figure Four Weekly: AEW roster starts to take shape

Plans for All Elite Wrestling started to come into focus at a rally in Jacksonville, Florida last Tuesday.

A surprise appearance by Chris Jericho closed the event, with Jericho instantly becoming the highest profile signing AEW has made in its brief history.

“I’m Chris Jericho, and I am all in with All Elite Wrestling,” Jericho said to begin his speech. “Surprise — I think we just took things to a different level, didn’t we?” Jericho said he’s not here with AEW for the money — he’s here because he believes in doing something new and different. Jericho announced that he’ll be at AEW’s first show, Double or Nothing, and hyped up the promotion by calling it the real deal and saying they’re not there just to change the world — they’re going to change the whole universe.

While Jericho appearing was kept secret until his music hit, him being part of AEW wasn’t a total shock.

VIDEO: Being the Elite covers All Elite Wrestling rally

Last week’s All Elite Wrestling Double or Nothing rally is the focus of the latest episode of Being the Elite.

The episode covers the rally and The Young Bucks’ travel to the event, with them saying this is one of the first times they’ve left Japan without a return date. Matt and Nick Jackson said they have no clue what their future wrestling in Japan is, but Matt said he’s hoping this isn’t the end and they can come back.

Britt Baker, Joey Janela, and MJF, who were all part of the rally, made appearances on this week’s Being the Elite. There was also footage shown of Chris Jericho and PAC’s appearances at the rally.

The episode didn’t include any follow-up to last week’s cliffhanger of Kenny Omega’s phone ticking. Omega’s contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling expires at the end of January.

This week’s Being the Elite is available to watch below:

Chris Jericho signs with All Elite Wrestling

Tuesday’s All Elite Wrestling rally concluded with an appearance by Chris Jericho.

Jericho announced that he’s “all in with All Elite Wrestling.” He said he wasn’t there for the money — he’s there because he believes in doing something different and new. He hyped up the promotion, saying that they’re going to change the whole universe.

AEW’s Twitter later posted video of Jericho signing with the promotion.

Jericho also announced that he’ll be at AEW Double or Nothing at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 25, 2019. The show is the sequel to All In.

At the first All In, Jericho made a surprise appearance and attacked Kenny Omega, promoting Jericho & The Young Bucks’ six-man tag match against Omega, Cody Rhodes & Marty Scurll at last year’s Jericho Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise.

Jericho lost the IWGP Intercontinental title to Tetsuya Naito at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 13 on January 4. In his post-match comments, Jericho said he was interested in going after Hiroshi Tanahashi’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

AEW Double or Nothing set for Las Vegas

The sequel to All In officially has its date and location.

At Tuesday’s All Elite Wrestling rally in Jacksonville, Florida, it was confirmed that AEW Double or Nothing will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, May 25, 2019. That’s the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

This will be the first show produced by AEW. All In was held in the Chicago area over Labor Day weekend in 2018.

Starrcast II was also announced via Twitter.

Chris Jericho made an appearance at the AEW rally, announcing that he’ll be at Double or Nothing. Jericho said he’s “all in with All Elite Wrestling” and that AEW is going to change the whole universe.

Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks noted that AEW’s second show will be taking place in Jacksonville. Further details weren’t provided, but it was noted that “a large portion of the gate” will go towards benefiting victims of gun violence.

VIDEO: All Elite Wrestling Double or Nothing rally

After months of speculation, All Elite Wrestling is, indeed, real, and the group will hold their first public appearance Tuesday at a “Double or Nothing” rally in Jacksonville, Florida, which you can watch here starting at 5 p.m. Eastern:

The Young Bucks, Cody, Brandi Rhodes, Christopher Daniels, Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian, and Hangman Page will appear along with other “special guests.” The event is free to the public and will be held outside TIAA Bank Field, which is where the Jacksonville Jaguars play.

The group is expected to make some announcements about the promotion and more about Double or Nothing, their follow up to last September’s All In event.

One name missing from the list of attendees is Kenny Omega. The now-former IWGP Heavyweight Champion said he’s leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling and has reportedly received offers from both WWE and AEW, with Omega to AEW being teased on this week’s Being the Elite episode. Omega’s contract with NJPW is up at the end of January.

As the clock struck midnight and we entered 2019, All Elite Wrestling finally became official.

Weeks of speculation culminated with AEW being formally announced at the end of a Being the Elite episode that was released at midnight Pacific time on January 1, 2019. With that came the announcement of Double or Nothing, which is the sequel to All In.

While there are plenty of questions about what the roster for AEW will look like, the initial group of wrestlers has started to come into focus. The Young Bucks, Cody and Brandi Rhodes, Hangman Page, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, and Britt Baker have all either officially signed or were reported to have signed with AEW. In addition to their in-ring roles, The Young Bucks and Cody are executive vice presidents of the company and Brandi is the chief brand officer.
