Tony Khan AEW media call: Grand Slam Australia updates, WWE ID, new event strategy

Ahead of Saturday’s AEW Full Gear, AEW & ROH head Tony Khan spoke with the media for an hour, hitting on the WWE ID program, a ticket update for February’s Grand Slam event in Australia, and their new event strategy.

The full audio from the call can be found below.

Khan said they have sold “thousands” of tickets for their debut in Australia which is also taking place in a stadium. Asked about how fans will be able to watch, Khan was reluctant to commit to it being a pay-per-view due to the time zone difference between Brisbane and the U.S. In the same answer, he mentioned Max and how his key shows will be simulcast there, perhaps a strong hint that is how it will be made available.

Asked about how the WWE ID program will affect their recruitment of talent on the indies, Khan was unsure as he still isn’t clear about all the parameters but did hear something about matching rights. He said it will be interesting to see how it goes the first time they have a WWE ID talent they want to bring in. As such, he will reserve his thoughts until he “tests such a mechanism.” It hasn’t been a conflict yet, but he’s interested to see how that goes when it does.

Khan said with running smaller venues, he hopes to recapture some of the atmosphere of some of the early AEW shows, specifically putting over venues in Cedar Park, Texas, and Austin, Texas, that he loves running. Khan said the instances of Dynamite/Collision tapings on the same night will be rare and only in cases where they have international travel planned or some other circumstance that necessitates it.

Other notes:

  • Khan said he’s learned a lot about marketing and entrepreneurship from Big Boom A.J. and Big Justice of the Costco Guys fame. He will appear on Fox Business Friday with A.J. to promote Full Gear.
  • He said they are having active negotiations about Ring of Honor and/or other AEW programming.
  • He said news of Toni Storm’s retirement and her demise has been “greatly exaggerated” and hopes to have her back soon.
  • Khan said he would also like to get Kenny Omega back soon and that it “would help them a lot and would be a great thing for AEW.”
  • Khan said it would be months before they announce anything regarding the PPV buying capability on Max.

The Rizzler to be in Costco Guys’ corner for AEW Full Gear

As if Big Boom A.J. and Big Justice weren’t enough for this Saturday’s AEW Full Gear, the stakes were raised during Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite.

In a backstage segment, A.J. and his son revealed that “The Rizzler,” a member of their extended family and fellow social media star, will indeed be in attendance for A.J.’s match against QT Marshall.

Rizzler (a third grader named Christian Joseph from New Jersey) initially rose to fame for a viral Instagram video of him wearing a Black Panther costume. He eventually found his way to the Costco Guys crew.

A.J., a former indie wrestler in the New York/New Jersey scene, will take on Marshall as part of the pre-show. He said he signed a one-match deal but has also he’s open for more.

‘Champagne championship celebration’ announced for AEW Full Gear

After successfully defending her AEW Women’s World title on Collision, reigning titleholder Mariah May will host a champagne celebration with Mina Shirakawa at next Saturday’s Full Gear.

May defeated Anna Jay in their trilogy bout, a no DQ affair that saw May pick up the win after hitting Storm Zero onto a chair. Jay is now unable to challenge May for the title as long as she holds it.

Shirakawa, May’s past tag team partner in Stardom, made her in-ring return to AEW a successful one by defeating Harley Cameron. It was her first match and win in AEW since a late-August victory on Rampage.

May defeated former champion and friend Toni Storm at this past August’s All In. Storm hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since then, but recent vignettes have teased her return — a strong possibility for next Saturday given the storyline between all three women.

They join reigning champions Private Party, House of Black’s Malakai Black & Brody King, and The Outrunners in the four-way at the pay-per-view. The duo haven’t held the titles since their 140-day reign ended in February 2023.

The use of the song was first revealed on Tuesday with Khan saying the song will be used to both promote Full Gear and their current “November to Remember” campaign to push their live shows through the end of the month.

Tony Khan told the live crowd during Thursday’s taping in Albany, New York, that the video would close the show Saturday.

Here’s the current lineup:

House of Black advances to AEW Full Gear four-way Tag Team title match

Image: AEW

The Kings of the Black Throne portion of House of Black will now be part of a four-way for the AEW Tag Team titles at next Saturday’s Full Gear.

Malakai Black & Brody King earned their spot on Wednesday’s Dynamite after defeating FTR when King put Dax Harwood out with a sleeper. While the two have held the AEW Trios titles, neither Black or King have been an AEW Tag Team champion.

It’s FTR’s first loss in a traditional tag team match since this past April’s Dynasty — a streak of eight bouts.

The two join reigning champions Private Party and The Outrunners in the match. The Acclaimed and LFI’s Rush & The Beast Mortos will clash this Saturday to determine the fourth entrant.

Here’s the current card for Saturday, November 23rd in Newark, New Jersey:

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Orange Cassidy
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Kris Statlander
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Daniel Garcia
  • Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher

  • Zero Hour: Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall

MJF vs. Roderick Strong official for AEW Full Gear

After Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, former AEW World Champion MJF now knows who he will be facing at next Saturday’s Full Gear: Roderick Strong.

Strong (seen above) defeated Lance Archer in a falls count anywhere match Wednesday to go 3-0 while friend Adam Cole lost to Konosuke Takeshita thanks to the use of MJF’s Dynamite diamond ring, putting him at 2-1 in his last three.

The reason that matters is MJF declared that in order for Cole or Strong to face him at the pay-per-view, they must win three straight matches. Cole said last week that Tony Khan changed the stipulation, saying that if both men won three straight, it would be a three-way instead.

MJF was not on Wednesday’s show in person, appearing in a quick pre-taped segment watching on after the Cole/Takeshita match ended.

As of this writing, Cole wasn’t announced as a special referee or having any involvement in the match which remains a possibility.

Assuming it remains as is, Strong vs. MJF would be a first time ever match and MJF’s first action since September’s All Out when he defeated Daniel Garcia.

  • Jay White vs. Hangman Page
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Swerve Strickland
  • MJF vs. Roderick Strong
  • Four-way match for AEW Tag Team titles: Private Party defends against The Outrunners, TBD, and TBD
  • Zero Hour: Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall

Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher announced for AEW Full Gear

Two former partners and friends will go head-to-head at next Saturday’s AEW Full Gear as former International Champion Will Ospreay will take on Kyle Fletcher.

The match for the Saturday, November 23rd pay-per-view was made on Wednesday’s Dynamite during an in-ring promo between Ospreay and Fletcher — one week after Ospreay made his surprise return. It was his first appearance since October’s WrestleDream when Fletcher turned on him, costing his friend the title in a three-way with Konosuke Takeshita and Ricochet.

After the two argued about the past and what brought them to this spot, they agreed on a match for Full Gear and then Brian Cage & Lance Archer came out to back Fletcher. Ospreay had it scouted and brought out both Mark Davis and Powerhouse Hobbs. The six men then brawled throughout the arena.

It’s the first singles match between the two since a March 2024 encounter done under much friendlier circumstances that Ospreay won.

  • Jay White vs. Hangman Page
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Swerve Strickland
  • MJF vs. Roderick Strong
  • Four-way match for AEW Tag Team titles: Private Party defends against The Outrunners, TBD, and TBD
  • Zero Hour: Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall

The end came when Turbo Floyd pinned Dante Martin after he and Truth Magnum hit the combo Total Recall.

Another qualifying match is set for this Wednesday when FTR takes on the House of Black while LFI faces The Acclaimed next Saturday in the final qualifier.

AEW reveals ticket information for All In Texas

Ticket information has been announced for Grand Slam Texas.

AEW announced on Wednesday that VIP packages for All In Texas will go on sale on November 20. Ticket presales will start on December 2, with tickets officially going on sale on December 9.

Next year’s show will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on July 12. This will be the first All In event in the United States since 2018, when the first show took place in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

AEW’s biggest show of the year was brought back in 2023 and 2024 at Wembley Stadium in London after AEW purchased Ring Of Honor, who owned the 2018 event. All In will return to London in 2026.

Highlights of this year’s show include Bryan Danielson defeating Swerve Strickland to win the AEW World Championship, Jack Perry defeating Darby Allin in a coffin match to retain the TNT Championship, and Will Ospreay defeating MJF to capture the AEW International title.

TBS title match, Bobby Lashley vs. Swerve Strickland announced for AEW Full Gear

Two new matches are now set for Full Gear.

Bobby Lashley will meet Swerve Strickland on November 23 following a confrontation that took place between Strickland and The Hurt Syndicate on this week’s Dynamite. MVP cut a promo saying that if you accept a Hurt Syndicate card it will change your life but if you reject it, this is what happens. MVP proceeded to show a video of Lashley’s debut and attack on Strickland last week. Strickland and Prince Nana came out as they were held back by officials. Swerve issued the challenge, with MVP accepting.

On social media, it was confirmed that Mercedes Mone will defend the TBS Championship against Kris Statlander. The two have been feuding since WrestleDream, with things picking up after Statlander defeated Mone’s associate Kamille. On Wednesday, Statlander was accidentally hit by a car that was being driven by Kamille. As Mone angrily told Kamille to check what happened, Statlander quickly recovered and dragged Mone out of the car as the two brawled.

Here’s the current card for Saturday, November 23rd in Newark, New Jersey:

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Orange Cassidy
  • TBS Championship: Mercedes Mone defends against Kris Statlander
  • Jay White vs. Hangman Page
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Swerve Strickland

Four-way Tag Team title match announced for AEW Full Gear

A four-way match for the AEW Tag Team titles is official for Full Gear.

It was announced on this week’s Collision that Private Party will be defending the Tag Team titles at Full Gear in a four-way match. Contenders will be determined via a Full Gear 4-Way Contenders Series that will begin on next Saturday’s Collision. The series will include the following matches:

  • AEW Collision on November 9: The Outrunners vs. Top Flight
  • AEW Dynamite on November 13: FTR vs. House of Black
  • AEW Collision on November 16: La Faccion Ingobernable vs. The Acclaimed

The winners of these three matches will advance to Full Gear on November 23, where they will face Private Party for the titles.

Quen and Zay defeated The Young Bucks on Dynamite this past Wednesday in a match where if they had lost, they would have been forced to break up as a team. Saturday’s Collision saw the babyface tag team celebrate in the ring with Private Party while the heel teams on the stage seethed.

Here’s the current card for Saturday, November 23rd in Newark, New Jersey:

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Orange Cassidy
  • Jay White vs. Hangman Page
  • MJF vs. either Adam Page or Roderick Strong
  • Four-way match for AEW Tag Team titles: Private Party defends against three teams TBA
  • Zero Hour: Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall

Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy World title match official for AEW Full Gear

The rivalry between AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and Orange Cassidy will be renewed at next month’s Full Gear pay-per-view.

Cassidy opened up Wednesday’s AEW Fright Night Dynamite by calling out Moxley for a title shot which was later accepted and made official for the Newark, New Jersey, PPV. The two were eventually part of a mid-show brawl that included the new-look BCC, Cassidy, a returning Darby Allin, Dark Order, and others.

The two men battled twice in a three-month span in the fall of 2023, headlining last September’s All Out when Moxley defeated Cassidy for the then-International title. Two months later and after Cassidy regained the title over Rey Fenix in October, he successfully defended the title against Moxley as part of last November’s Full Gear.

It will be Moxley’s first title defense since beginning his fourth title reign at this month’s WrestleDream with a win over Bryan Danielson. Cassidy has yet to hold the promotion’s biggest prize.

Here’s the current card for Saturday, November 23rd in Newark, New Jersey:

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Orange Cassidy
  • Jay White vs. Hangman Page
  • MJF vs. either Adam Page or Roderick Strong
  • Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall

Costco Guy AJ vs. QT Marshall official for AEW Full Gear pre-show

One of social media’s biggest breakout stars of 2024 is officially set to make his AEW debut.

AEW has confirmed that AJ Befumo — a former indie wrestler who has gained famed on TikTok — will step back into the ring against QT Marshall on the Full Gear pre-show next month. Befumo has signed a one-match deal with AEW and, earlier this month, challenged Marshall to face him at Full Gear.

The pay-per-view is being held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, November 23.

“You wanted to do this for free on the Zero Hour, in front of all your friends and family. Well, AJ, just because you think that New Jersey is your hometown — I got another thing coming for you,” Marshall said in a promo. “New Jersey, I was born. New Jersey, I was raised. And in New Jersey, at Full Gear, I’m going to beat you. I’m going to embarrass you. I’m going to prove to you that 20 years ago when you walked away from professional wrestling and passed the torch to me, QT Marshall, you made the absolute right decision of your life.

“And I’m going to send you back to TikTok land. I’m going to embarrass you in front of your friends, your family, in front of Big Justice. Because AJ, you’re going to bring the boom — but QT Marshall is going to bring the doom.”

Befumo went by the name Eric Justice in his past career as an indie wrestler. He’s billed as Big Boom AJ for this match against Marshall.

On TikTok, Befumo and his son Big Justice (Eric Befumo) have become known as the “Costco Guys,” filming their trips to the wholesale store and expressing their love for Costco’s chicken bake and double chunk chocolate cookie.

They went viral with their song “We Bring the Boom” this summer.

Big Justice will be in Befumo’s corner for the Full Gear match.

Here’s what’s been announced for Full Gear so far:
