WWE NXT video highlights: Zoey Stark betrays Nikkita Lyons

After failing to become Women’s Tag Team Champions, Zoey Stark betrayed Nikkita Lyons on last night’s episode of NXT.

Stark & Lyons came up short in their NXT Women’s Tag Team title rematch against Katana Chance & Kayden Carter. There was a miscommunication near the finish that led to Chance & Carter getting the victory. Stark nearly hit Lyons when Chance moved out of the way. Chance and Carter tried to hit a double superkick on Stark, but Lyons pushed Stark away so that she could take the bullet herself. With Lyons out of the picture, Chance & Carter defeated Stark to retain their titles.

Stark took the NXT Women’s Tag Team title belts away from the referee after the match. Stark and Lyons were going to present the championships to Chance and Carter, but Stark instead turned against Lyons, dropping her with a belt shot.

Stark blamed Lyons for their loss, screaming that Lyons ruins everything for her. Stark then laid out Lyons with a kick.

WWE had been building to Stark’s heel turn as she became increasingly unhinged after the last time she and Lyons lost to Chance & Carter.

WWE NXT live results: Women’s Tag Team title rematch

Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark are getting another chance to become Women’s Tag Team Champions tonight on NXT.

Lyons & Stark are challenging Katana Chance & Kayden Carter in a return match for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles. The teams previously faced off for the titles two weeks ago.

In their prior tag title match, Stark seemingly had gotten the win for her team by pinning Chance, but the decision was reversed due to the referee missing an unseen tag. Chance & Carter then went on to retain their titles by pinning Lyons.

Last week on NXT, Stark lost her temper in a singles match. That cost her the match, despite Lyons attempting to calm her down. Stark was later apologetic over the incident in a backstage skit.

Tonight’s NXT also features a talk show segment. Before Von Wagner challenges Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship next week, Breakker and Wagner will both be guests on The Grayson Waller Effect tonight.

Plus, Brutus Creed takes on Damon Kemp in a five-minute challenge, Axiom faces JD McDonagh, Charlie Dempsey returns to the ring against Andre Chase, Hank Walker will be in action against Stacks, and Cameron Grimes battles Joe Gacy.

Grimes vs. Gacy is opening tonight’s show. It will be Ava Raine’s ringside debut as The Schism accompany Gacy.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opens with the entrance of Joe Gacy and The Schism. The team of The Dyad is alongside Ava Raine in flanking Gacy on his way to the ring.

Cameron Grimes enters the soundstage in Orlando with a stern look on his face, looking determined ahead of the opening match on tonight’s card.

Joe Gacy (with The Schism) defeats Cameron Grimes

Gacy pins Grimes after interference by Ava Raine. The Dyad also interfere throughout the match, but Grimes thwarts most of their attempts to help Gacy. It was Raine that eventually costs Grimes the match.

Gacy is wrestling in trunks and boots, ditching his previous gear of street clothes. It is a much better look, especially since Gacy is such a good wrestler. He also looks like a wrestler with the new gear.

They match goes through a commercial break. Grimes has to fight off Schism. Despite their interference, Grimes makes a comeback. His rally continues, despite Schism trying to cut him off.

Schism tries to interfere again, but that backfires. Gacy takes a poison rana, and Grimes signals for his finisher. The Dyad help Gacy to powder out of the ring. Undaunted, Grimes leaps over the top rope with a flip dive on Schism.

Grimes climbs the turnbuckles, and Ava Raine shoves him off the top rope. Gacy then hits Grimes with the Upside Down World, and Gacy scores a three count.

Axiom is waiting outside the trainer’s room for Nathan Frazier, who tells Axiom it will be a few more weeks before Frazier is cleared to wrestle again. Their conversation is interrupted by JD McDonagh.

McDonagh sarcastically guesses that Frazier has a herniated disk. Axiom takes up for Frazier, and he banters with McDonagh. This sets up a match between Axiom and McDonagh.

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are back at the barber’s shop for a vignette. Hayes wants his North American Championship back, and Hayes notes he was not pinned in losing the title. He lost the strap in a ladder match, where Wes Lee won the North American title.

Hayes has some respect for Lee, but Hayes claims Lee is not the true champion until he beats Hayes. Williams calls a Lee a “transitional chump,” and everyone has a big laugh at Lee’s expense.

A barber named Josh gives Lee some props, much to the astonishment of the group gathered in the barber shop. Josh asks Hayes how long he will let Lee hold the title. “Two weeks” is the answer from Williams.

Hayes announces that next week there is a contract signing where he and Lee make the match official. This was a good segment, and very unique in the presentation.

Scrypts interrupts the show with another cryptic message warning everyone of his arrival.

Elektra Lopez defeats Sol Ruca

Ruca is running wild when Lopez pulls her off the top rope. Ruca takes a bump onto the mat, and Lopez then executes a sit out choke bomb. Lopez then covers Ruca for a pinfall.

After the match, Indi Hartwell runs in to attack Lopez. There is a pull-apart brawl. Hartwell’s sneak attack is a receipt for Lopez jumping Hartwell last week in a similar manner. This is clearly building to a match between the two.

Duke Hudson hypes Andre Chase in a pep talk for the ages. Thea Hail is also hyped for Chase’s match.

NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose is facetiming with Jacy Jayne, and Jacyne is attacked by Alba Fyre. She was apparently posing as a “mall cop” when Fyre attacks Jayne. Fyre then gives Rose a warning that she is coming for her too.

Charlie Dempsey defeats Andre Chase (with Thea Hail & Duke Hudson)

Dempsey wins after Hudson throws in the towel to stop the match.

Dempsey keeps getting the better of Hudson in grappling exchanges. Nevertheless, Chase is able to do a Garvin Stomp as the live studio audience spells out C-H-A-S-E-U.

Dempsey ties Chase in a crossface. Hudson is at ringside cringing at the hold, and Hudson could finally take no more. Hudson grabs a towel, and he attempts to throw it into the ring. Like Helen Hart at Survivor Series in ’94, he misses at first as the towel awkwardly lands on the middle rope. Hudson throws it a second time, and the referee then sees it on the mat.

A confused Hudson wonders what happened, saying he did not quit. Hudson checks on Chase, and Hudson also glares at Dempsey. Chase has a look of bewilderment.

Kaina James and her assistant go to Fallon Henley’s dive bar. Briggs and Jensen are also there as James scouts the place looking to buy the property. Henley does not wish to sell the place, as it has a rich history in her family. James makes her final offer, and Henley again declines to sell. Henley then orders them to leave.

Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo (with Tony D’Angelo) defeats Hank Walker

Lorenzo pins Walker in a match where both guys wrestle in pants.

When making a comeback, Walker rips his shirt off like he pulling a strap down on his singlet. Walker then hulks up. Lorenzo counters with an eye poke for a near fall.

Lorenzo follows up the near fall with a knee drop curb stomp. Lorenzo then hooks a legs and covers Walker for a pinfall.

The Grayson Waller Effect with Bron Breakker and Von Wagner

As part of the segment, there is a bunch of graphics on the screen. It is very busy. The set includes fake ferns like the show is hosted by Zach Galifianakis, except there are more than two ferns.

NXT Champion Bron Breakker sits across a desk from Von Wagner and Mr. Stone. Grayson Waller is seated between them. They proceed to have a boring talking segment where they banter back and forth. Things eventually heat up.

Building to a title match next week, Wagner cuts a promo on Breakker. In response, Breakker jumps to his feet and challenges Wagner to an impromptu fight. They get face to face and have a staredown. Mr. Stone is aghast, but he is kicked aside.

McKenzie Mitchells interviews NXT North American Champion Wes Lee, who brings up what Carmelo Hayes said earlier in the barber shop. Lee vows to retain his championship against Hayes.

Cora Jade in a vignette cuts a promo on Wendy Choo, which hypes a match next week with Jade against Choo.

JD McDonagh defeats Axiom

McDonagh wins via referee stoppage after targeting Axiom’s knee.

Fast paced match at the start, as things heat up. The match goes through a commercial break, and the paces has slowed when the show returns from the break.

McDonagh works a leg, but Axiom nonetheless launches into a comeback. Despite selling his knee, Axiom springboards into a quebrada to the outside. Back in the ring, McDonagh again targets Axiom’s knee. Axiom counters for a near fall.

Trapped in a Boston crab, Axiom struggles and claws for a rope break. They go on to trade strikes, with both landing big blows. McDonagh drops Axiom with a strike.

McDonagh attempts a moonsault press, but Axiom has a counter, Axiom catches McDonagh in a triangle. McDonagh goes for a deadlift powerbomb while looking to break the triangle. Axiom counters the counter, and he executes a hurricanrana for a two count.

In a final hope spot, Axiom was another counter when McDonagh goes to again target the leg. Axiom applies a rear naked choke, and McDonagh tries to escape. Axiom transitions into a Fujiwara armbar, but McDonagh block it by barring the injured knee.

McDonagh cranks on Axiom’s knee, and the referee jumps in to pause the action. Booker T on commentary screams that he heard Axoim’s knee pop. Axioms sells big, but he pleads with the ref to not stop the match. Trainers come over to check on Axiom. The ref and the trainers rule that Axiom cannot continue, and the match is awarded to McDonagh.

McDonagh cuts a post-match promo saying his match was a lesson to the rest of the roster. McDonagh then issues a warning to Apollo Crews.

A plug for next week announces that Shawn Michaels will “issue a statement” related to Deadline, which is the next NXT supercard.

Damon Kemp defeats Brutus Creed (with Julius Creed & Ivy Nile) via disqualification

Brutus is disqualified after using a chair before his five minute are up.

The gimmick to this match is Brutus gets five minutes with Kemp, based on Julius Creed winning a stipulation match a few weeks ago at Halloween Havoc.

The first few minutes are all Brutus, as he pummels Kemp from pillar to post.

Kemp eventually cuts off Creed around the three minute mark. Kemp then grabs a metal folding chair from ringside, and Kemp brings the chair into the ring. Creed blocks a chair shot, and Creed fires up.

Brutus smash. Creed then picks up the chair, and he contemplates using it as a weapon. He hits Kemp with chair shots to the back, and the ref disqualifies Creed.

Creed stands over Kemp, and then Creed again picks up the chair. Creed hits Kemp with the chair one more time for good measure.

This may be a blow off for now to the angle with Kemp, based on a post-match staredown. Veer & Sanga from a perch overlooking the ring stare at Diamond Mine.

A vignette teases the return of Dijakovic, or whatever name he is going to use. He is no longer T-Bar, and he takes about dishing out justice. Whatever that means.

Roxanne Perez stops Indi Hartwell backstage to ask if she is okay. Earlier in the show, Hartwell cut a heelish promo. Her heelish behavior continues, as she dismisses Perez’s concerns.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter & Katana Chance defeat Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons to retain their titles

Carter pins Stark to win the match. Stark turns on Lyons after the match.

The champs clear the ring midway through the match, and they stand tall as the show cuts to its final commercial break. The challengers are fighting back as the show returns from the break.

Chance is cut off from her Carter, and Chance falls prey to Lyons. Stark tags in, and she lands a kick on Chance for a near fall. Meanwhile, Carter wipes out Lyons with a dropkick on the floor.

Starks almost crashes and burns on a Phoenix Splash, but she is able to roll trough. Stark attempt to suplex Chance, but Chance counters her. Starks takes a stunner.

All four are down on the mat selling in the final moments of the match. They head home as Stark almost collides with Lyons. They stop short of each other. Lyons then takes a bullet for Stark. Lyons pushes Stark aside, and Lyons is hit with double superkicks.

Stark springs into action with a superkick on Carter. Chance counters Stark to deliver a tornado DDT. Chance and Carter then execute their tandem finisher, and Carter covers Stark for the deciding pinfall.

Seemingly in a show of sportsmanship, Stark and Lyons present Carter and Chance with the title belts after the match in a symbolic gesture.

Just as the challengers are handing over the belts to the champs, Stark smacks Lyons with a title belt. Stark follows up with dropkick on Lyons, and Stark stands over a fallen Lyons as the show fades to black. Looks like Stark is going heel.

WWE NXT live results: Halloween Havoc fallout, Tag Team Title Tuesday

The fallout from Halloween Havoc takes place on NXT tonight.

NXT Champion Bron Breakker and NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose kept their titles at Halloween Havoc, while Wes Lee was crowned the new NXT North American Champion. We’ll see if new challengers emerge tonight.

Tonight’s show is also Tag Team Title Tuesday. The women’s and men’s Tag Team titles will both be on the line. Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons are challenging NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Katana Chance & Kayden Carter. NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly are defending their titles against Malik Blade & Edris Enofe.

After hosting Halloween Havoc, Shotzi will be in action against Lash Legend. Legend tried to interrupt Shotzi and Quincy Elliott at Saturday’s event, but Shotzi put a stop to that by laying her out with a DDT.

The newest member of Schism will also be unmasked tonight. Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

After a highlight recap of Halloween Havoc, the show is opening with a tag team title match. The participants are already in the ring for the pre-match introductions.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter & Katana Chance defeat Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark to retain their titles

Chance pins Lyons for the champs to retain. A Dusty finish teased a title change, but the match is restarted. The champs then go on to retain the belts.

The defending champions continue to adopt what on commentary is called a “more aggressive” style. They still do flashy moves, but they are subtle heels in this bout between two babyface teams. Shades of grey, or something like that.

The challengers look strong as the show cuts to a commercial break. The champs regain control during the break, but Lyons comes back when the show returns. She is soon cut off, but not before she give Chance a hard slam.

Hot tag to Stark, and she is a house of fire. Starks gets a few near falls before she clotheslines Carter over the ropes. They seemingly were both supposed to go over the ropes like a Cactus Jack clothesline, because Stark jumps over the ropes after not initially going over. This was so she could skin the cat back into the ring, where Stark rolls up Chance with a schoolgirl. Stark scores a pinfall, but it would count.

Stark & Lyons celebrate in the ring, as a second referee comes into the ring to overturn the call. The second ref, who is apparently the “head referee,” informs Taylor of the Dusty finish. Taylor announces the match must continue because of an unseen tag.

The match restarts with a slugfest, and the fight is on again. Lyons gets a near fall that is broken up, and Lyons then takes Carter & Chance’s tandem finisher. Chance covers Lyons for a deciding pinfall, and the champs retain their titles.

Ilja Dragunov cuts a promo on JD McDonagh in a vignette. This builds to Dragunov against McDonagh in a bout tonight, which comes off both failing to win the NXT title at Halloween Havoc in a triple threat match.

T-Bar is getting a new gimmick, as a clip shows him burning his mask. Formerly in NXT under the Dominik Dijakovic moniker, he is set to return to the developmental brand.

R-Truth cameo appearance sets up match for next week

New NXT North American Champion Wes Lee heads to the ring for his first appearance since winning the title last Saturday.

The live studio audience chants that he deserves it. Lee thanks the fans for their support, and he talks about some of his struggles in his journey to the championship.

Lee talks about being grateful, and he thanks the fans. Lee goes on to talk about his plans, but he is interrupted by Grayson Waller.

Waller gets into the ring to confront Lee, but there is another interruption. R-Truth enters the soundstage to a big pop. He does the “what’s up” call and response with the studio audience.

Truth welcomes everyone to Halloween Havoc, which is a joke since that took place on Saturday. Waller interrupts Truth, and Truth compliments his British accent. That is another joke, as Waller is Australian.

Waller informs Truth that Havoc happened three days ago. Truth busts out laughing, but Lee assures Truth the card was days ago. Truth clowns on Waller for losing in casket match on Saturday.

Waller challenges Truth to a match next Tuesday, and R-Truth accepts the challenge. Waller tries a cheap shot on Truth, but Waller is thwarted by Truth and Lee. Truth tosses Waller out of the ring, and Truth tells Waller he will see him next week.

Edris Enofe tries to hype up of Malik Blade with lyrics from an Eminem song. It works, as they are hyped to get a tag title match later on tonight.

McKenzie Mitchell interviews Apollo Crews, and Crews is putting Grayson Waller behind him (after Crews beat Waller on Saturday in a casket match). Crews says NXT Champion Bron Breakker returns to the show next week, and Crews is interested in what Breakker has to say. Previously, there was a tease of Crews challenging Breakker. That looks like a possible direction.

Shotzi Blackheart defeats Lash Legend

Blackheart pins Legend in a short match.

Quincy Elliott is at ringside, after being involved in an angle that set up this match. He briefly gets involved with a staredown with Legend when teh fight spills outside the ring

Balckheart delivers her DDT finisher called “Never Wake Up,” and she covers Legend for a pinfall. Elliott celebrates with Blackheart after the match.

Julius & Brutus Creed are heading to the ring, as Brutus is supposed to get five minutes against Damon Kemp (based on a stipulation from a match on Saturday).

The Creed Brothers get in the ring for a promo. Julius talks about being in pain after his win on Saturday when he defeated Damon Kemp. Julius’ hands are bruised and swollen from the match.

Brutus thanks his brother for what he did, as Brutus’ career was on the line. Julius won, so his brother thanks him for it. Brutus then yells that it is now his turn, and Brutus calls out Kemp.

Kemp appears on a video screen. This is a swerve, as Kemp informs the Creeds he is not medically cleared to compete tonight. Suddenly, there is a sneak attack.

Veer & Sanga ambush the Creeds with a blindside attack. Veer & Sanga beat them down. Sanga pauses briefly, as if he is second guessing the attack. Sanga then attacks again, and he delivers a chokeslam.

Veer & Sanga leave the ring with the Creeds down selling the attack. Ivy Nile walks out to confront Veer & Sanga. Nile yells at them, “Why?” Nile then goes to check on the Creeds.

Toxic Attraction are facetiming each other. NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose announces that next week they will celebrate the one year anniversary of her title reign.

NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson & Elton Prince) defeat Edris Enofe & Malik Blade

Wilson pins Blade to win the match.

The challengers start off strong with a flurry of offense at the start. The champs cut them off, but the challengers soon fight back. The challengers are standing tall as the show goes to a commercial break.

Having turned the tide, the champs are working over Enofe when the show returns from the break. Hot tag to Blade, and he runs wild. Blade then does a huge dive over the ropes to the floor.

Blade gets a near fall after flying crossbody. Blade is soon cut off following a bling tag by Pretty Deadly. The two teams continue to trade near falls.

“Boo/yay” chants during a slugfest, and the trading of near falls goes on. Pretty Deadly attempts their Spilt Milk finisher, but Blade counters for a good false finish.

For the finish, Enofe is neutralized. That left Blade alone in the ring, and he takes Spilt Milk. Wilson then cradles Blade for a pinfall, and the champs retain the titles.

JD McDonagh in a vignette cuts a promo on Ilja Dragunov ahead of their match tonight.

McKenzie Mitchell interviews Zoey Stark in a locker room. Stark is upset over losing the title match earlier in the show. Nikkita Lyons rushed in to apologize for the loss, but Stark assures her it was not Lyons’ fault. Stark vows to win the titles in a rematch.

Here comes The Schism. Oh joy. Anyway, they all get into the ring wearing drama masks. Joe Gacy takes off his mask, and he begins to cut a promo. He usually talks a lot, but he keeps it short tonight as The Dyad also say a few words before the unveiling of the newest member of their group. Their promos play on the words written on their respective mask.

This all leads to the newest member of Scism being revealed as Ava Raine (Simone Johnson).

Sol Ruca is doing an interview backstage when she is interrupted by Indi Hartwell. This leads to a match up next.

A voice message left at the Performance Center has an ominous warning from someone named Scrypts, who threatens to rip NXT apart. The voice reminds me of the Black Scorpion in WCW.

 Indi Hartwell defeats Sol Ruca

An aggressive Hartwell pins Ruca in a short match. Hartwell shows a lot of fire and viciousness.

Elektra Lopez runs in after the match, and she attacks both Hartwell and Ruca. Lopez lays out Ruca, and Lopez says warns the roster she is back.

Chase University is the setting of a pre-taped skit. Bodhi Hayward is absent from a class, but Duke Hudson is there to take his seat, much to the chagrin of Thea Hail. Andre Chase is giving a lecture when Hail’s pen stops working. Hudson gives her his pen. Chase yells at him for not having a pen to take notes. Hail tries to take up for Hudson, but he insists in taking the heat. Hudson then steals another student’s pen.

Roxanne Perez in a vignette reflects on her grudge match against Cora Jade, where Perez defeated Jade at Halloween Havoc.

JD McDonagh defeats Ilja Dragunov

McDonagh wins via referee stoppage in what is by far the best match on the show. An injured Dragunov is caught in a submission at the finish, but he refuses to tap.

Dragunov jumps McDonagh before the bell sounds to start the match. This leads to them exchanging chops and strikes. Dragunov goes into the match with taped ribs, and McDonagh targets the injury during the bout.

Sent sailing off the apron, Dragunov crashes into the announce desk. He lands on his injured ribs, and medical staff rush in to check on him. Dragunov is pleading with them to let him continue the match as the show goes into its final commercial break.

McDonagh is working over Dragunov as the show returns from the break. Dragunov fights back, but he continues to sell his ribs. Dragunov fights through the injury, and he executes a superplex.

Dragunov briefly falls to his knees selling his injury. He rises to his feet with a look of rage in his eyes. He charges towards McDonagh, only for McDonagh to counter him. McDonagh applies a crossface that also targets the injured ribs. Dragunov refuses to tap, but the referee stops the match. Despite Dragunov being bloody, he never quit.

Dragunov is carried from the ring on a stretcher as the show closes.

New Tag Team title number one contenders crowned on WWE NXT

Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark are the new number one contenders to the WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Lyons and Stark defeated Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne in a number one contenders match on Tuesday’s WWE NXT, putting themselves next in line for a shot at Katana Chance and Kayden Carter’s titles.

No date has been announced for the future title match.

Lyons, Stark, and Alba Fyre had been announced as facing Dolin, Jayne, and Mandy Rose in a trios match on Tuesday’s NXT show, but Rose and Fyre were taken out of the match in an angle.

In the angle, Fyre attacked the Toxic Attraction in the NXT parking lot with a baseball bat. After using the bat on Dolin and Jayne, Fyre carjacked the SUV that Toxic Attraction arrived in and drove off, presumably kidnapping Rose. Fyre challenging Rose for the NXT Women’s Championship looks to be in the cards, perhaps for Halloween Havoc on October 22.

WWE NXT live results: Toxic Attraction vs. Fyre, Lyons & Stark

Cold open, meaning no introductory video package aside from the Together montage that opens every WWE show.

Fresh look from the start with a new commentary combination for the night. Wade Barrett introduces Byron Saxton and Sudu Shah.

Barrett says Vic Joseph is not there tonight, because he is “stuck in immigration.” Joseph recently got married to McKenzie Mitchell in Italy, but that was not mentioned on the show. Joseph will be back soon on commentary.

New white and gold graphics as part of the new color scheme. Same for the soundstage, as the set is upgraded with the updated color scheme on the ring skirt and posts. The set design is otherwise essentially the same.

The British are coming … and so are The Brawling Brutes

NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly come out dressed like Redcoats of British Colonial times. It is time for the “State of the Commonwealth Address” from Pretty Deadly.

This is rather silly. They crack jokes and such. Everything is tongue and cheek, and seemingly played for laughs. Lord Steven Regal and Sir Robert Eaton did this gimmick far better as The Blue Bloods.

Pretty Deadly cuts a promo on the NXT tag division. To me this was dying a death, until they are interrupted by a surprise appearance.

The Brawling Brutes from Smackdown interrupt Pretty Deadly’s promo. Ridge Holland and Butch are here to confront the NXT tag champs after Pretty Deadly tweeted jokes about Sheamus.

Pretty Deadly claim they were hacked, but the Brutes are not buying that. They attack Pretty Deadly, and the Brutes are apparently looking for a title shot. Pretty Deadly powder and flee. This sets up a tag title match as tonight’s main event.

Just as the angle is over, out comes Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. Hayes is set for action in the opening match on tonight’s card. But first, another angle.

Alba Fyre attacks Toxic Attraction

A skit from earlier today is set in what is referred to on commentary “the most dangerous place in NXT,” meaning the parking lot. A lot of angles and attacks do take place there.

The skit spoofs the infamous angle from Jim Crockett Promotions, where the Horsemen ambush Dusty Rhodes with a baseball bat in a parking lot.

Toxic Attraction arrives in a SUV, and they are attacked with a baseball bat by Alba Fyre. She hits Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolan with the bat. Fyre then gets into the SUV and speeds away. This changes the advertised six-woman tag match.

Carmelo Hayes (with Trick Williams) defeats Oro Mensah

Hayes pins Mensah in a good match.

Mensah is getting to shine when Williams jumps on the apron to interfere. Mensah knocks Williams off the apron with a kick, but the distraction allows Hayes to deliver a codebreaker.

Hayes then climbs the turnbuckles, and he leaps off the top rope with a guillotine legdrop. A three count later, and Hayes wins the match.

Hayes grabs a headset after the match, as he is joining commentary for the next match. He is going to see who else is joining him for the ladder match at Halloween Havoc.

Andre Chase (with Bodhi Hayward & Thea Hail) defeats Von Wagner (with Mr. Stone) in a North American Championship Qualifying Match

Wagner pins Chase. Thus, Wagner qualifies for the five-way ladder match at Halloween Havoc for the NXT North American Championship

During the match, Mr. Stone as an altercation with Chase U. Stone takes the Chase U flage from Hayward, and Stone hurls the flag onto the floor. Thea Heal in retaliation, bodyslams Stone on the floor at ringside.

Chase beams with pride at his students, but he takes his attention off Wagner. False finish as they play off the ending of the first match on the show. This time around, there is a counter after the distraction. Chase counters for  two count. From there they head home.

Although Chase gets a near fall, he then turns around and eats a big boot from Wagner. Chase is dropped by the high kick, and Wagner covers him for a pinfall.

Wagner is added to the ladder match at Halloween Havoc.

Hayes is talking trash on commentary when he is attacked by Wes Lee. Referee separate Lee and Hayes in a pull-apart brawl.

Veer Mahaan joins Sanga backstage during a pre-taped skit. They both are wearing very nice suits.

In another skit from “earlier today” (even though it was filmed at night), Grayson Waller arrives at the building driving a Hummer, and he meets with his security detail.

Wendy Choo defeats Lash Legend

Choo pins Legend in a return match from a previous episode. Choo gets the win this time around.

For the finish, Legend misses a pump kick. Choo counters with kicks of her own. Choo climbs to the top turnbuckle and she leaps into a super Vader splash. Choo then wins via pinfall.

Kelly Kincaid is interviewing Wes Lee backstage when Lee is confronted by Channing “Stacks” Tatum. Stacks looks to avenge Tony D’Angelo, who was injured in a match with Lee on a previous episode of NXT. The confrontation her tonight sets up a match next Tuesday with Lee against Stacks.

Gallus in a video package warns they will soon return to NXT. They are suspended in storyline.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter & Katana Chance are featured in a vignette.

Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons defeats Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolan & Jacy Jayne) in a number one contenders match

Lyons pins Dolan. In winning, Lyons & Stark become the next challengers for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship.

The match goes through a commercial break, as they are given plenty of time. They build to a hot tag after the break. The heels work over Lyons, until she tags out. Stark runs wild on Toxic Attraction, and the babyface team is making a comeback.

Several near falls where the tag partner jumps in to make save by breaking the count. Toxic Attraction go for a tandem finisher, but Lyons trips Jayne. Stark & Lyons both then deliver their finishing moves.

Stark with her version of a GTS, and Lyons does the splits into a legdrop. Lyons then covers Dolan for a pinfall.

Ilja Dragunov is featured in a great vignette building up the NXT Championship match at Halloween Havoc, where Dragunov and JD McDonagh challenge NXT Champion Bron Breakker in a triple threat match.

The Grayson Waller Effect with faceoff between Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez

Basically a modern day Piper’s Pit, and the guests this week are bitter rivals. Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez meet in a face-to-face confrontation. They sit down opposite each other at a desk, with Waller seated between them.

There is lots of bickering, including from Grayson Waller. He announces a match a Halloween Havoc with Perez against Jade. Waller also adds a Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal stipulation.

Waller goes on to declare he will spin the wheel right now to decide the stip at Halloween Havoc. Waller tells his security detail to stay with Jade and Perez, seemingly to keep the peace.

Waller spins the gimmicked wheel, and it lands on a “Weapons Wild Match,” whatever that means. Meanwhile, Perez and Jade get into a pull-apart melee.

Apollo Crews suddenly appears at ringside, and Crews drags Waller underneath the ring. Waller crawls back out with his eye bleeding.

Julius Creed defeats Duke Hudson

Creed pins Hudson in a short match. Julius looks dominate before landing a sliding lariat, and he then covers Hudson for a pinfall.

This was set up earlier in the show when Hudson confronted Creed in a backstage skit. No other members of Diamond Mine are at ringside, per Julius’ request. He wanted it win all on his own.

Brutus Creed runs out after the match, and he attacks Hudson. Ivy Nile and Julius have to pull Brutus off Hudson to end the beatdown.

Suddenly, Damon Kemp interrupts from a perch overlooking the ring. The Creeds and Kemp cut bad promos on each other, leading to Kemp saying Brutus is “my bitch.” This of course angers Brutus greatly, and he is restrained by his brother and Ivy Nile.

Kemp proposes a stipulation for his upcoming match against Julius. Kemp agrees to give Brutus a rematch with him if Julius can beat Kemp, under one other condition. If Julius loses to Kemp, then Brutus must leave NXT.

Julius adds another stip, making the match an ambulance match. Stips galore in this match at Halloween Havoc.

JD McDonagh is the focus of a vignette that hypes the triple threat title match at Halloween Havoc.

Hank Walker is getting a pep talk from his fellow security guards ahead of Walker’s match tonight.

Axiom is featured in a video package that build up the third match in the best of three series with Nathan Frazier. The deciding match in the series takes place next week.

Xyon Quinn defeats Hank Walker

Walker in storyline was just signed a contract with the NXT brand, so he now has music and a full-fledged entrance.

Much like Jerry Lawler pulling down the straps on his singlet, Walker rips his shirt off before he fires up.

Walker makes a comeback on Quinn, but Walker is soon cut off. Quinn delivers a Tito Santana flying forearm smash, and he covers Walker for a three count.

Quinn goes to attack Walker again after the match, but Quincy Elliott makes a save as he confronts Quinn in the ring. Quinn backpedals and leaves the ring. This makes Walker and Elliott friends now in storyline.

Cameron Grimes is attacked by The Schism in a backstage assault. Grimes is beaten with a trash can, after being set up by a mystery person wearing a red hoodie. After the hooded person lures Grimes into a trap, Joe Gacy welcomes that person into his cult.

In yet another skit, NXT Champion Bron Breakker challenges Javier Bernal to match for next Tuesday on NXT. A cocky Bernal interrupts an interview with Breakker, so Breakker says he is requesting a match for next week.

NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) defeat The Brawling Brutes (Ridge Holland & Butch) to retain their titles

Pretty Deadly retain the titles after interference by Imperium.

Decent enough match, although it was missing something. Maybe it was just overbooked, like much of the show. There were several great near falls.

Imperium interfere, which costs the Brutes the match. Pretty Deadly execute their Spilt Milk finisher, and Prince pins Holland to win the match.

The Brawling Brutes and Imperium brawl their way out of the soundstage. My guess is they fight all the way to Smackdown on Friday.

Edris Enofe & Malik Blade enter the soundstage after the match for a staredown with the tag champs. Pretty Deadly had mentioned Enofe & Blade in their promo earlier in the show.

Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen also show up on a perch overlooking the ring. This seems to set up a triple threat tag match, but nothing is made official. The show closes with the three-way standoff.

Overall, a very lackluster episode of NXT. A lot happened, but it was maybe too much at times.

Toxic Attraction replacing Stark & Lyons in WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament

Update —

WWE has confirmed that Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne are replacing Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons in the Women’s Tag Team title tournament. Shawn Michaels said Stark was injured at NXT Heatwave and Lyons is “medically unavailable.”

Dave Meltzer reported that Stark’s injury is a concussion.

**********

A change has been made to the lineup for WWE’s Women’s Tag Team title tournament.

The first round of the tournament was supposed to conclude with NXT’s Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons facing Natalya & Sonya Deville on SmackDown tonight, but PWInsider reports that Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) will instead be facing Natalya & Deville in the match. PWInsider wrote that Lyons isn’t at SmackDown tonight.

On the latest edition of the Bryan & Vinny Show, Bryan Alvarez noted that he was told Stark was injured during her match against NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose at Heatwave this past Tuesday. Alvarez said he didn’t know how serious Stark’s injury was or how long she would be out of action, but he believed Stark & Lyons were out of the WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament.

Dolin, Jayne, and Rose are all members of Toxic Attraction in NXT.

The winner of tonight’s tournament match will advance to face Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah in the semifinals. IYO SKY & Dakota Kai vs. Asuka & Alexa Bliss is the semifinal match on the other side of the bracket.

Tonight’s SmackDown is being held at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The show will feature a face-to-face segment with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and his Clash at the Castle challenger Drew McIntyre.

WWE NXT Zoey’s Stark worked as producer while injured

Zoey Stark has opened up about working as a producer while she was injured.

Stark suffered a torn MCL/Meniscus in November and was out of action until returning last month. During her time away from the ring, she worked backstage in NXT as a producer. She spoke with Corey Graves on After the Bell recently about the experience.

“I knew I was going to come back and I knew producing was going to help me inside the ring,” Stark said. “When you coach somebody, two people are learning. And I’m learning at the same time because now I’m really having to think about it. It’s amazing to be able to do both sides and then you get a different side, and like ‘Oh, this is what producers have to go through, I had no idea.'”

“People kind of want to go off and do their own thing and it throws off the producer, it throws off the camera guys, it throws off everyone. You have to be in full communication with everyone, we’re all a team in this so you can’t just go rogue and do your own thing. We need to help each other, we all have the same goal, we all want to have a great match, we all want to tell a story.”

Earlier in the conversation, Stark also spoke about how she enjoys training others in the WWE Performance Center as well.

“I love coming into this Performance Center and I love being here, and talking with all the coaches, learning as much as I can, and then even helping out other students here who are learning,” she said.

“This is my home. I would live here if they would let me.”

WWE NXT video highlights: Zoey Stark vs. Cora Jade

Last night’s NXT saw Zoey Stark pick up significant momentum heading into Heatwave.

Stark defeated Cora Jade in the main event of last night’s NXT. Stark then was able to avoid an attack by NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose after the match. Stark saw the attack coming, laid out Rose, and posed with the NXT Women’s title belt.

Stark will challenge Rose for the NXT Women’s Championship at Heatwave next Tuesday.

Near the end of the main event, Jade went to hit Stark with a kendo stick. But Roxanne Perez pulled the weapon away when Jade tried to get it. Perez then chased Jade with the kendo stick following the match.

Perez vs. Jade has been added to the Heatwave card. Carmelo Hayes vs. Giovanni Vinci for the North American Championship has also been confirmed for Heatwave, along with a street fight between Tony D’Angelo and Santos Escobar. If D’Angelo wins, Escobar will be banned from NXT. If Escobar wins, Legado del Fantasma is free from the D’Angelo family.

Bron Breakker vs. JD McDonagh for the NXT Championship will also take place at Heatwave.

WWE NXT live results: Heatwave go-home show

NXT will finish setting the stage for next week’s Heatwave special with a go-home show tonight.

Zoey Stark is scheduled to challenge Mandy Rose for the NXT Women’s Championship at Heatwave next Tuesday, but Rose is trying to stop that from happening. Rose approached Cora Jade last Tuesday, trying to get Jade to take out Stark ahead of Heatwave.

Rose’s selling point is that would leave Jade as the next challenger. That set up a featured match for tonight’s episode of NXT, when Jade meets Stark in a singles match.

Stark returned from injury last month, last eliminating Jade in a number one contender’s battle royal.

Jade’s former tag team partner Roxanne Perez has challenged Jade to a match at NXT Heatwave. Last week, Jade said “absolutely not” to the challenge.

Wes Lee vs. Trick Williams in a Rounds Match is also set for tonight, along with Nikkita Lyons vs. Kiana James. Plus, Santos Escobar and Tony D’Angelo have agreed to meet in The Final Accord, whatever that means.

Ahead of Heatwave, we’ll also see the final build to Bron Breakker and JD McDonagh’s NXT Championship match.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opens with a grudge match a few weeks in the making.

Nikkita Lyons defeats Kiana James

Lyons pins James clean to win, but James is a poor sport. So she attacks Lyons afterwards. Thus this feud will likely continue, or James is just getting her heat back. We shall see since she clearly lost clean here.

In the story of the bout, James cuts off Lyons by targeting a knee. James works the leg, and Lyons attempts to sell.

Lyons roars back as she begins a rally. Lyons charges into a corner with a flying attack of some sort, which clearly misses. They keep going, leading to them trading near falls near the ropes. They go home soon thereafter.

Lyons with a roundhouse spin kick, and then her finisher where she does the splits into a legdrop for a three count.

James attacks Lyons after the match. A sore loser, James hits Lyons with a large purse after sneaking up behind her. James seemingly gets her heat back with the post-match attack, but she still lost clean.

Apollo Crews is backstage with the Creed Brothers, and they are studying the Creeds’ match from last week. Roderick Strong enters the room. The Creeds are upset with him for no-showing their match last week, but Strong insists he never intended to show up. Instead, it was a test. The Creeds won the match, so Strong says they passed the test. The Creeds are not buying it. Crews agrees Roddy is being shady. Crews and Roddy bicker, which leads to a singles match between the two for later tonight.

Lash Legend stops Malik Blade, because she needs to holler at him. They are talking when the scene ends abruptly, but not before Legends admits to Blade she does not like his tag team partner. However, she apparently likes Blade.

Later in the show, Legend and Blade are still talking when Edris Enofe approaches them. Legend changes her tune, and she suddenly like Enfoe. Odd set of skits, and then a third and final skit involves Pretty Deadly. Somehow this all leads to a match involving Pretty Deadly. Stay tuned for that.

Rules for the rounds match coming up next:

  • Six three-minute rounds
  • 20 breaks between rounds
  • Falls can be won by pinfalls, submission or countout
  • Once a fall occurs, the round ends
  • First to win two falls is declared the winner
  • A KO or DQ automatically ends the match (but not really as it turns out)

Wes Lee defeats Trick Williams (with Carmelo Hayes) in a rounds match

Lee wins after pinning Williams in the fifth round. Lee pins Williams twice in the match, thus the bout ends when Lee scores a pin with seconds left in the round five.

Early on it looked to go the way of infamous boxer vs. wrestler fiascos of the past, but they ditched the gloves after the first round, and it turned into what is mostly a pro wrestling match with rounds. Billed as a six round fight, the match ended in five. As per the rules, or sort of.

Lee knocks out Williams, before he pins him. Despite the rules, the match did not end after a KO. Why add that rule and then do this finish? The pinfall made perfect sense without the KO rule, but it still hopefully helps in getting Lee over. He looked strong in winning.

Both are wearing boxing gloves, and Williams played up the gimmick by also wearing other boxing attire. NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes seconds Williams in his corner for the bout. Hayes would go on to interfere.

Round One

Williams was getting the better of Lee, pounding him with punches. Lee fires back and Williams is in trouble, but Williams is saved by the bell.

Besides the save at the bell, they also save the quality of the match itself by soon ditching the gloves, getting rid of them for the time being. A glove from each would later factor into the story of the match.

Round Two

The gloves comes off at the start of the round, and Lee charges towards Williams. Williams is on the ropes again, and Lee does a plancha to the outside.

Hayes interferes by grabbing Lee, which allows Williams to rock Lee with a pump kick. Williams then covers Lee for a pinfall, before a full minute even expires in round two. That leaves Williams up one fall to none.

Round Three

Ending during a commercial break, the third round is mostly Williams working over Lee. No falls in this round. Williams remains up by one fall.

Round Four

During the rest period, Hayes loads one of the boxing gloves. Hayes puts it on Williams’ hand as the fourth round begins.

Lee dodges the loaded glove. He ducks and dives out of the way, catching Williams in a crucifix. Lee then scores a three count, evening the bout at one fall apiece.

After the bell to end the round, Williams with a cheapshot decks Lee with the loaded glove. He crumples to the mat. Lee is laid out between rounds.

Round Five

Still selling the cheapshot from the loaded glove, Lee is in peril when the fifth round begins. He fights from underneath.

While in trouble, Lee still manages to kick out several times. Williams misses a kick, and he traps his leg on the top rope. Lee capitalizes, and Lee begins a comeback.

Lee puts on one of his boxing gloves, and Lee clobbers Williams with a punch. Lee then hooks a leg, and he pins Williams with mere seconds left in the fifth round. Having won two falls, Lee is declared the winner of the rounds match.

In a Chase U skit, Thea Hail is booked for her debut match in NXT. Andre Chase was great here, and Hail was very good in her comedic role.

Hail hit Arianna Grace in the face with a ball on campus. Grace is upset and has a black eye. So Andre Chase books the two women in a match. Grace is upset, saying she wanted to sue. Chase flips out at the threat of a lawsuit, yelling a Grace that at Chase U they settle difference in the ring.

Giovanni Vinci challenges North American Champion Carmelo Hayes at NXT Heatwave

Carmelo Hayes, wearing his title belt around his waist, is back in the ring. He is without Trick Williams, who is still selling being KO’d. Hayes is bemoaning Lee winning the rounds match, accusing him of cheating.

Giovanni Vinci comes out to interrupt Hayes. Vinci takes off his suit jacket, and he challenges Hayes to a title match at Heatwave. They go back-and-forth on the mic. Hayes accepts the challenge, setting up a North American title match next Tuesday.

They both try for a cheapshot on the other, but it is a stalemate. Both counter the other’s moves, until referees separate them.

A great video package hypes JD McDonagh against NXT Champion Bron Breakker as the main event of Heatwave. Really good stuff. Comparing this to their live segment last week, this hype is much better.

Arianna Grace defeats Thea Hail (with Andre Chase & Bodhi Hayward)

Grace pins Hail in Hail’s debut match, after Grace tricks Hail.

Hail gets worked over, but she makes a comeback. They trade punches, and Grace sells her already injured eye.It was a trick. She was playing possum, and she boots Hail with a cheapshot.

After tricking Hail and booting her with sneaky kick, Grace delivers a fireman’s carry slam. She then covers Hail for a three count. Hail loses her debut match to Grace.

Solo Sikoa is out four to six weeks with a sprained PCL. Cameron Grimes approaches Sikoa in the training room. Sikoa gives Grimes a pep talk of sorts, and Grimes was sort of mild about it.

Apollo Crews defeats Roderick Strong

Crews pins Strong in what is a strong match … pun intended. Good match, regardless.

By the far the best workers on the show so far tonight, and the best bout thus far as well. Grappling early on in the match builds to a spot outside the ring. Double clothesline and double down just before the show cuts to a commercial break.

Back in the ring after the commercials, the match continues with them going back-and-forth. Very evenly matched, until Strong briefly works over Crews. That gives way to Crews firing up with a rally.

Near falls for Crews after delivering some suplexes. Strong counters a suplex, and he gets Crews on the ring apron. Strong with a sidewalk slam on the apron, leading to another near fall.

Seemingly trapped in the Stronghold (Boston crab), Crews powers out and catches Strong with a powerslam. Crews signals for a military press, but Strong counters his attempt.

Crews delivers a gutbuster, and they fight on. Strong leaps into the air, Crews catches him, and Strong is slammed to the mat. Crews then covers him for a three count.

Later on, the Creeds Brothers are backstage studying film. Strong barges into the room demanding to know why the Creeds were not out at ringside for Strong’s match. The Creeds gives Strong the same BS answers he gave them earlier. They bicker, and there is a hint of a tipping point within Diamond Mine next week.

One Final Accord

Santos Escobars arrives for his meeting with Tony D’Angelo, who is waiting for him outdoors at a place with a water fountain in the background. They sit down to talk, and they sure do a lot of talking.

This is very well produced and shot from a production standpoint, but this came off to me like a bad spoof of a soap opera. Kind of boring as well. I kept getting distracted by the water fountain.

Escobar proposes a match next week against D’Angelo, and if Escobar loses he is “gone” from NXT. If Escobar wins, El Legado del Fantasma is free from being part of the D’Angelo Family. So, loser leaves town on one side, or human servitude on the other.

D’Angelo accepts the proposal for a match, but D’Angelo also adds a stipulation of his own. D’Angelo proposes a street fight, and Escobar agrees. The match is on for next week in what appears to be a blow off to this feud.

Wendy Choo jumps Tiffany Stratton, after Choo waited for Stratton in her locker room. Choo warns Stratton this is not over. Choo is supposed to be the babyface in the feud, but this was a heel tactic. Whatever.

Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) defeat Malik Blade & Edris Enofe

Enofe takes a pin after Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen involve themselves in the match. Their help backfires.

Pretty Deadly mock Briggs & Jensen during the match, which plays into the finish after Briggs & Jensen come down to ringside.

Enofe is running wild after a hot tag, and he delivers a Macho Man flying elbow drop off the top rope. A pinning attempt is broken up.

Pretty Deadly try to cheat using a metal folding chair as a weapon. Briggs jumps on the apron to take away the chair. He inadvertently gets hit, when Enofe collides with him, sandwiching the chair between them.

Briggs falls off the apron, and Enofe takes a Hart Attack neckbreaker.

Lash Legend attacks Fallon Henley, who is at ringside alongside Brooks & Jensen. Legend beats her up, and she leaves. This looks to set up a possible trios match with Legend and Pretty Deadly against the redneck trio.

Joe Gacy and Schism confront Cameron Grimes, asking where he is going. Grimes says he is going home. Gacy asks who Grimes is going home to, and Grimes rolls his eyes before leaving. I rolled my eyes too. Spare us this, please.

Nikkita Lyons gives Zoey Stark some encouraging words ahead of the main event.

McKenzie Mitchells interviews Apollo Crews after his victory earlier tonight. In walks Grayson Waller to interrupt Crews. Waller tells Crews that “on behald of 2.0, you aren’t welcome here.” Crews challenges Waller to a fight, but Waller leaves instead.

Cora Jade apparently had to wait in the ring through a entire commercial break, while also waiting for the Crews/Waller backstage skit to play out. In addition, the announcers ran down the card for Heatwave. Jade waits. Finally, the entrance for Stark, and the main event is underway.

Just before the match begins, the announcers plug Roxanne Perez against Jade for Heatwave. That makes their grudge match official, even though Jade in storyline scoffed last week at the idea.

Zoey Stark defeats Cora Jade

Stark pins Jade, with maybe a little help from a slight distraction by Roxanne Perez.

NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose is ringside at the announce desk providing guest commentary. She tries a sneak attack after the match, to no avail.

Jade and Stark wrestle through a commercial break. Jade is in control when the show returns from the break, as she works over Stark.

Trying to cheat, Jade retrieves what appears to be a kendo stick painted black. Stark ducks the kendo stick, and Jade takes a German suplex. Stark rallies, and she makes a comeback.

Jade flips inside out taking another German suplex. They trade near falls. Jade eats a superkick before a two count. Stark takes a hammerlock DDT, but she kicks out at two and half. Stark also kicks out after taking sliced bread.

Roxanne Perez appears at ringside, and she now has possession of the kendo stick. Jade is distracted by Perez being at ringside. Stark delivers a superkick, and she executes her modified version of the GTS. Stark then covers Jade for the deciding pinfall.

Perez confronts Jade after the match, with Perez pointing the stick at Jade like Sting would a baseball bat. Jade flees, and Perez chases her up the ramp and out of the soundstage.

Meanwhile, Mandy Rose tries to jump Stark with a sneak attack. Stark dodges a belt shot, and she executes her finisher on Rose. Stark then poses with the women’s title belt, holding the strap overhead as the show closes.

WWE NXT video highlights: Diamond Mine vs. D’Angelo family

NXT this week featured a title being pulled out of the trash and an eight-man tag team match in the main event.

Zoey Stark would kick off the show after winning the battle royal last week and earning the next shot at Mandy Rose’s NXT Women’s Championship. Stark challenged Rose to put the title on the line then and there but instead would face Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin later in the show. After Stark defeated Dolin and fended off an attack from Jacy Jayne, Cora Jade came out of nowhere to hit her with a kendo stick. This led to Roxanne Perez making the save and sending Jade scurrying out of the ring. It was later announced that Stark will challenge Rose on the August 16 episode branded as NXT Heatwave.

The future of the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles was also addressed on this week’s show. After Jade tossed her title in the trash last week, Alundra Blayze helped Roxanne Perez pull it back out again this week. Blayze then announced the titles will be decided in a fatal 4-way match next week.

It was also announced that at NXT Heatwave, Bron Breakker will defend the NXT Championship against JD McDonagh.

In the night’s main event, The D’Angelo Family picked up the victory against the Diamond Mine, which may lead to further dissension amongst Roderick Strong, Damon Kemp, and the Creed Brothers.

Two NXT title matches set for August 16 Heatwave special

Two title matches have been set for NXT’s next television special.

It was announced on Tuesday’s NXT that Bron Breakker will defend the NXT Championship against JD McDonagh at Heatwave, which will air on the August 16 edition of NXT. Mandy Rose, meanwhile, will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Zoey Stark.

Breakker confronted McDonagh on tonight’s show and revealed he would be defending the title against McDonagh in three weeks, and there would be a summit on next week’s NXT to make things official. McDonagh headbutted Breakker, but Breakker struck him back to end the segment.

On Tuesday’s show, Stark came out to open the show and mentioned the title match at Heatwave. Toxic Attraction came out, which led to a match being made for later in the show between Stark and Gigi Dolin. Stark defeated Dolin. After the match, Cora Jade came out from the crowd and attacked Stark. However, Roxanne Perez, who Jade turned on two weeks ago, came out to make the save.

WWE NXT video highlights: Zoey Stark returns, wins battle royal

A former tag team champion returned to NXT last night and became the new number one contender to the NXT Women’s Championship.

Zoey Stark made her return last night, winning a 20-woman number one contender’s battle royal for the next shot at Mandy Rose’s title. Stark had been out of action since tearing her ACL at NXT Halloween Havoc last October.

After bailing at the start of the battle royal, Cora Jade returned and attempted to steal the win at the end, but Stark sent Jade over the top rope to get the victory.

Jade turned heel by attacking Roxanne Perez on last week’s NXT. Last night, Jade explained her actions, claiming that Perez challenging for the NXT Women’s Championship last week showed that Perez didn’t care about her. Jade said Perez used her to get to NXT.

Jade ended her promo by throwing her NXT Women’s Tag Team title belt in the trash.

Zoey Stark returns to WWE NXT, wins 20-woman battle royal

Mandy Rose has her next challenger for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Zoey Stark returned from injury at tonight’s NXT and ended up winning the 20-woman battle royal, last eliminating Cora Jade. The finish had Stark eliminating Tiffany Stratton. Stark was celebrating on the turnbuckle when Jade, who was chased away early in the match but never eliminated, came into the ring. Stark saw her and threw Jade over the top rope and to the floor, officially eliminating her. The show ended with Stark and Rose having a staredown.

Stark had been out of action since suffering a MCL injury during a ladder match for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles at Halloween Havoc. On the November 2, 2021 edition of NXT, she was written off television after Toxic Attraction attacked Stark backstage.

Signing with the WWE in January 2021, Stark made her NXT televised debut in February. At the Great American Bash on July 6, Stark and Io Shirai defeated Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.

WWE NXT’s Io Shirai, Zoey Stark expected to return from injury ‘relatively soon’

Io Shirai and Zoey Stark are expected to return from injury “relatively soon.”

Shirai hasn’t wrestled since NXT Stand & Deliver on April 2. Speculation regarding her injury began when photos of her wearing a walking boot circulated later that month. The exact nature of her injury is unknown, however.

Stark hasn’t wrestled since NXT Halloween Havoc on October 26. She posted to social media on November 9 and revealed that she had surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus. In storyline, her injury was said to be due to an attack by Toxic Attraction.

Our own Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that both wrestlers are expected back shortly.

“Io Shirai and Zoey Stark, who have both been out with injuries, are expected to be back relatively soon,” he wrote.

Shirai and Stark won the NXT Tag Team Championships from The Way at The Great American Bash on July 6, 2021. They eventually dropped the belts to Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jane at Halloween Havoc.
