Two matches added to WWE Raw lineup for next week

Following the conclusion of last night’s WWE Raw, two matches were added to the lineup for next week’s episode.

Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser is now scheduled for the show. The match will be their third singles bout dating back to June. Kaiser defeated Sheamus on the June 3 Raw, while Sheamus avenged the loss two months later on the August 5 episode.

“After engaging in a fierce battle over the summer, the two Superstars are one win apiece and will seek to settle the score in this grudge match,” WWE.com wrote of the match.

Also announced for next week is the LWO’s Zelina Vega vs. American Made’s Ivy Nile. This match was made after Nile attempted to interfere in Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee’s match against The Creed Brothers last night but was thwarted by Vega. The LWO won the match and advanced to the tag team contenders tournament finals next week.

“After Zelina Vega and Ivy Nile tussled during The LWO’s match against American Made, the two Superstars will meet one-on-one for the first time ever,” wrote WWE.com.

The lineup for the Monday, October 28 WWE Raw:

  • World Tag Team Championship contender’s tournament finals: The New Day vs. The War Raiders vs. Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee
  • Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser
  • Zelina Vega vs. Ivy Nile
  • Dominik Mysterio vs. a former World Champion

WWE Raw live results: Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio team up

WWE is in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada tonight for the Money in the Bank fallout episode of Raw.

For the first time ever, Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio will team up as they take on Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega in a mixed tag team match. After accidentally costing him a win last week, Morgan will attempt to ramp up her seduction by helping Dominik defeat his father tonight.

Morgan retained her Women’s World Championship against Vega last Monday after botched interference by Dominik, who has supposedly been trying to make things right with Rhea Ripley by attempting to get Morgan to lose the title.

Judgment Day’s Finn Balor & JD McDonagh will team with Carlito tonight against Braun Strowman, The Miz & R-Truth. There’s also a six-woman tag match set with Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance taking on Damage CTRL’s IYO SKY, Kairi Sane & Dakota Kai.

Plus, Jey Uso vs. Chad Gable will take place tonight. Join us for live coverage starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Pat McAfee returned to commentary as the show emanated from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

– CM Punk kicks off the show, addresses a suspended Drew McIntyre

Punk professed his well-wishes to the soon-to-retire John Cena before going on a tirade regarding McIntyre. While patting himself on the back, Punk pointed out McIntyre’s faults and why he had been getting in his way. Seth Rollins came out to confront Punk instead.

Rollins beckoned Punk back into the ring, accusing Punk of getting into his business when he cost Rollins the match at Money in the Bank. Punk apologized to Rollins, admitting his rage got in the way before saying he “isn’t that sorry.” Rollins poked at Punk, commenting that he gaslights everyone and thinks the world revolves around him. Rollins concluded by threatening to snap Punk’s arm once he is cleared.

– Dominik Mysterio pleaded with Adam Pearce to call him off of the Liv Morgan tag match, Morgan appealed to Mysterio

Jey Uso defeated Chad Gable

With his torso taped up, Gable immediately administered his skills to Uso with suplexes and holds. Throughout picture-in-picture, Gable remained largely in control, with spirited defenses from Uso sprinkled in between.

Uso briefly fought out of Gable’s fingers only for Gable to ensnare him via an Ankle Lock. The Wyatt Six sound effects sounded as the arena darkened. Uso speared Gable for the win and gave a goodbye Yeet to the crowd.

The match was fine. Gable showed his range and power, and looked strong in defeat as anyone traumatized by the Wyatt Six would be understandably distracted. Uso’s star power was on full display and had to take advantage of the situation.

– Post-Match

Chad Gable woke up in the mist when Sister Abigail (Nikki Cross) scared him away and delivered yet another VHS tape to Michael Cole and Pat McAfee at commentary. The segment ended with an Abigail jumpscare.

– Sheamus backstage interview

The Celtic Warrior discussed his aspirations and competition when Bronson Reed came into frame, telling Sheamus he’s waiting if he defeated Sheamus’s old friend Pete Dunne. Commentary would later state that Dunne’s tag team partner Tyler Bate was out of action due to injury.

Bronson Reed defeated Pete Dunne

Reed immediately flattened Dunne, but he rebounded quickly, capped off with a floating moonsault to the floor outside. After a commercial break, Dunne fought out of another control segment by Reed. After some finger joint manipulation, the large Reed powerbombed Dunne onto the mat, following a brief struggle on the top turnbuckle with Dunne targeting the fingers again. Reed won with a finished Tsunami Splash, and was ready to use another one before Sheamus came to Dunne’s aid.

Sheamus tried to embrace Dunne, but he refused, still bitter about the dissolution of The Brawling Brutes.

This was a fine outing by Reed, and Dunne’s finger snapping spots put him at an advantage. The match suffered from a commercial break that took up most of its time, but otherwise a decent TV match. I’m interested in the sewn seeds between Dunne and Sheamus.

– Seth Rollins and Damian Priest backstage segment

Rollins approached Judgement Day, seeking one-on-one counsel with Priest, and acknowledged that the World Heavyweight Champion stuck to his word. Priest retorted, stating that he’d be willing to throw out the gentlemen’s agreement from before Money in the Bank since Rollins was unfairly costed. He then answered the phone to an unknown caller.

– Sami Zayn in-ring promo

Proudly touting his successful title victory at Money in the Bank, Zayn professed that he was no longer an underdog and deserved respect. Bron Breakker, fresh off his loss to Zayn, admits his defeat and that he would accept not receiving a rematch. Then he speared Zayn until officials came out, and then he speared him again. Ilja Dragunov appeared, quickly rushing to Zayn’s side.

– Ilja Dragunov demanded Adam Pearce give him a match against Bron Breakker

Judgement Day (Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, & Carlito) defeated Awesome Truth & Brawn Strowman

Former tag champs R-Truth and Miz were attacked during their prolonged entrance. JD McDonagh was promptly chased out by Braun Strowman, charging like a bull seeing red. During picture-in-picture, Carlito gloated as McDonagh and Balor assaulted the legal Miz. Strowman came in for the hot tag, dismantling McDonagh without mercy. Attempting a chokeslam on Balor, Strowman was interrupted by Carlito & McDonagh but he laid them flat. Strowman and R-Truth proceeded to run a train all across Judgement Day.

McDonagh evened the odds by enticing Strowman, who proceeded to chase him out of the ring. Balor took advantage of this with a Coup de Grâce for the win as Strowman was too late in returning to the ring.

Not that I was a big fan to begin with, but I hope the Awesome Truth push slows down if not outright stopped with all the tag teams Raw can feature.

– Adam Pearce asked CM Punk backstage to stay away from July 15’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Punk obliged in the hopes of resting and getting cleared

– Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio are caught in an awkward predicament by Judgement Day

Morgan sought to alleviate Mysterio’s tension and massage him into a position that bordered on non-PG territory. Judgement Day laughed and yelled at Mysterio, who repeated he’d take care of it. Damian Priest said he’d let Mysterio learn the consequences of his actions on his own.

– Bo Dallas VHS promo

This VHS recording detailed the motivations and pain of each member of The Wyatt Six (Erik Rowan, Nikki Cross, Joe Gacey, and Dexter Lumis). Uncle Howdy and Dallas agree that the team are “sick”.

– Adam Pearce backstage segment

Pearce was approached by an angry Chad Gable, pleading that as General Manager, Pearce needed to do something about The Wyatt Six. Pearce opened the door to his office to find Bo Dallas sitting in a chair. He then closed the door.

Damage CTRL claimed the team needed to go through a change

Ilja Dragunov defeated Bron Breakker via DQ

Breakker began this match in control of a spiteful Dragunov who matched his intensity. After a commercial break, Dragunov was in dire straits. The pair traded blows, with Dragunov’s resilience and Breakker’s tenacity on full display. Powerbombing Breakker from the top rope and following it with a senton, Dragunov nearly had the match won. He got some nice air from that senton.

Breakker tried a Gorilla Press + Knees-to-midsection that didn’t pay off, but neither did Dragunov’s top-rope maneuvers. A sprinting Breakker sought to spear Dragunov but was met with a knee instead. The match ended after Breakker threw a chair at Dragunov, disqualifying him.

Sami Zayn entered the fray to prevent a post-match beatdown but Breakker decimated both men.

Each time I see Dragunov and Breakker go at it, they improve upon the match before. The intensity from both men is palpable each time they step into the ring. I see this post-match leading to a triple-threat match for the Intercontinental Championship down the line.

– Damian Priest vignette

A confident Priest celebrated his successes and challenged Gunther to show up and take advantage of his King of the Ring win opportunity for the World Heavyweight Championship.

– The Final Testament backstage vignette

Karrion Kross reiterates his intentions to draw Xavier Woods out of New Day, while addressing John Cena’s impending retirement.

Damage CTRL (Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, & Dakota Kai) defeated Lyra Valkyria, Kayden Carter, & Katana Chance

Frenzy ensued after the bell with each team picking a partner to lock up with. Sane kept Carter at pace, and tagged in Kai. Valkyria, Carter, & Chance solidified their offense with a synchronized kick through the ropes. Damage CTRL regained momentum as they delivered a united front onto Chance. After a Sliding Elbow, the legal Sane sought pinfall in repetition to no avail.

Sky served as the hot tag, striking with agility and precision to Chance until Valkyria leveled her with her dynamic powerhouse style. All six women engaged in a double suplex that flattened Damage CTRL with a resounding thud. Carter & Chance nearly ended the match with their Keg Stand finisher. Sky launched Sane through the air onto Valkyria and Chance while Kai and Sane dragged Carter to the middle of the ring. Punctuating the match with her moonsault, Sky ended the match.

Post-match, Zoey Stark, Shayna Baszler, & Sonya Deville laid out Damage CTRL, closing the scene and standing tall.

In a perfect world, Carter and Chance would be thriving in tag team action without being set pieces for someone else. They worked well in tandem with Valkyria. Sane in particular shone more than she has for a while since her WWE return.

– Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega backstage interview, promised to stop Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan

Shayna Baszler, Zoey Stark, & Sonya Deville explain why Deville joined them, Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre taunt them

– Gunther promo vignette

The Ring General walked down memory lane, detailing his past accomplishments and proclaiming the sport was too sacred for lesser wrestlers following their dream. Gunther acknowledged his upcoming match with Damian Priest at SummerSlam.

Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio defeated Rey Mysterio & Zelina Vega

It was on-sight for Vega onto Morgan, so much so that she quickly had to tag in Dominik, and Rey for Vega. Rey quickly outpaced Dominik, and it certainly didn’t help that Rey included Vega. Morgan was again no match for Vega, but Dominik stood in Vega’s way and Rey took advantage with no hesitation. Morgan sacrificed herself for Dominik, pushing him to absorb Vega’s flying knees herself.

Running circles around his son, Rey lined up his 619 finisher, but Morgan tripped him up, leading to Dominik to gain control for the first time in the match. The uneasy chemistry between Dominik and Morgan built throughout the match. Contrasted to the hard-hitting style of Vega and Rey, Dominik and Morgan were underhanded and rotten in their approach.

In a callback to Eddy Guerrero vs Rey Misterio at Halloween Havoc 1997, Dominik tore at Rey’s mask and spammed his elbows across his father’s face. Finally gaining a moment of respite, Rey tagged in Vega who again was too fiery for Morgan, leaving little opening for the Women’s World Champion. Now, it was Morgan’s turn to gain control for the first time as she used Eddie Guerrero’s Three Amigos finisher to no success. Tagging in Rey, the masked veteran kept Dominik in his paces. Vega and Rey teamed up with each employing a 619 on Dominik, but Morgan quelled this and slammed Vega into the ring post. Throwing a chair into the ring to distract the ref, she gave a cheap shot to Rey and Dominik followed up with a Frog Splash for the win.

Post-match, Dominik hugged Morgan in excitement but quickly realized his mistake. Morgan responded in kind by jumping into Dominik’s arms as she dropped them to the mat and held him there for an uncomfortable amount of time. She would leave in a hurry though, as Rhea Ripley made her surprise return and she did not look too happy to see Dominik. In fact, she chastised him and stormed off in fury.

This mixed-tag team match actually had a fun pace to it despite the comedic soap opera angle. Rey’s a legend and Zelina’s a very fine worker. Couple that with Dominik’s heat magnet status and Liv’s star power, and this was an energetic bout with big spots. It dragged her and there, but there were important wheels turning that brought it to its conclusion and the awkwardness of Rhea finally catching Dominik in the act.

Overall the show was good. It could have had more than five matches, however, and preferably without The Awesome Truth. The Wyatt Six angle seems to be heading somewhere but they could possibly come up with alternative means for VHS tapes to reach the production truck each week, and I’m glad to see there may be an actual follow-up with Sheamus and the rest of his Brawling Brutes. I’m looking forward to Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, and Sami Zayn to inevitably clash. Rhea Ripley’s return solidified how sorely missed she was.

Two Money in the Bank qualifying matches booked for WWE Raw

Money in the Bank qualifying begins with two triple threat matches taking place on WWE Raw tonight.

This afternoon, WWE uploaded a video with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce announcing a pair of Money in the Bank qualifying bouts for tonight. IYO SKY vs. Zelina Vega vs. Kiana James will determine the first women’s ladder match participant. The first men’s participant will be determined by Jey Uso vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Finn Balor.

SKY was last year’s women’s Money in the Bank winner. She successfully cashed in her briefcase on Bianca Belair at SummerSlam last August and held the WWE Women’s Championship until losing it to Bayley at WrestleMania 40.

Damian Priest won the 2023 men’s Money in the Bank ladder match and held onto the briefcase until a successful WrestleMania cash-in on Drew McIntyre. At Clash at the Castle last weekend, Priest defeated McIntyre to retain the World Heavyweight Championship after CM Punk got involved in the match.

Scotiabank Arena in Toronto is hosting Money in the Bank on Saturday, July 6. Including tonight, there are only three episodes of Raw and three episodes of SmackDown left before the event.

The venue for tonight’s Raw is American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Zelina Vega pulled from WWE Queen of the Ring due to injury

Zelina Vega is out of the Queen of the Ring tournament.

Adam Pearce announced today that Vega is not medically cleared to compete in her scheduled match against Shayna Baszler at WWE’s house show in Macon, Georgia later tonight. Maxxine Dupri will replace Vega on the show.

“Zelina Vega will not be medically cleared to compete tonight and therefore will be stepping out of the Queen of the Ring tournament, which is unfortunate given her past history as a Queen of the Ring, it would have been nice to see her try to regain that crown but (the) injury bug strikes again, which opens the door to opportunity for one Maxxine Dupri, who will receive the biggest opportunity of her young career as she will step in tonight against Shayna Baszler,” Pearce said.

Vega reacted to the news, saying she is heartbroken at not being able to defend her crown.

The nature of Vega’s injury has not been disclosed. She hasn’t wrestled since her loss to Elektra Lopez on the April 5, 2024, edition of WWE SmackDown.

Vega won the WWE Queen’s Crown tournament in 2021.

Report: Zelina Vega signs new WWE contract

WWE has reportedly re-signed another member of its roster.

Zelina Vega recently agreed to a new multi-year agreement with the company, PWInsider is reporting.

Terms and length of the deal have not been disclosed.

Vega joins a growing list of wrestlers WWE has re-signed recently, including Cody Rhodes, Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Rey Mysterio, and Dominik Mysterio.

Vega, who turned 33 yesterday, first signed with WWE in 2017 after having made several appearances in NXT dating back to 2014.

She was released in November 2020 following WWE announcing restrictions for its roster regarding agreements with third-parties such as Twitch. Vega returned to the company in July 2021 and comments about supporting unionization were deleted from her social media accounts.

Vega is currently a member of the LWO but has also been teaming with Michin in tag team matches at house shows, dark matches, and most recently in a loss to Asuka and Kairi Sane on the December 15 SmackDown.

Zelina Vega would ‘absolutely’ like to see CM Punk return to WWE

Zelina Vega would “absolutely” like to see CM Punk return to WWE.

In an interview with Newsday that was published on Thursday, Vega was asked about a social media post she made after Punk’s AEW firing was announced. Vega said the post wasn’t about Punk — but she would like to see him in WWE again.

“I wish him the best,” Vega told Newsday. “Would it be great to see him again? Absolutely.”

Vega posted a red “X” on Sunday morning. Some people thought the message was in support of Punk, but Vega said it was referencing a jacket Rey Mysterio wore at WWE Payback. The jacket had an “X” over Dominik Mysterio’s face. Vega is part of the LWO with Rey in WWE.

Vega added that she’s always had a fantastic relationship with Punk.

“I don’t know much about his situation with AEW, but I have always had a fantastic relationship with CM Punk,” Vega said. “You hear all these things about him. I am so big on not listening to other people’s experiences, the dirt sheets, all that crap.”

Vega said there are so many reasons she’d like to see Punk return to WWE, both for herself and the fans.

“He’s always been a fantastic person,” Vega said. “There’s layers to people. And when people are just so hung up on the outer layers of what a person can be, you get stuck there. And if you want to stay there, that’s great. But when you get to know the core of a person, that’s where I like to hang out.”

Vega’s husband, AEW wrestler Malakai Black, was part of the Collision roster with Punk in AEW.

It was announced on September 2 that Punk’s AEW contract had been terminated with cause. He was fired less than a week after a physical backstage altercation with Jack Perry that took place at All In. The altercation was the second major backstage incident involving Punk in less than a year.

WWE Women’s title match announced for SmackDown

A WWE Women’s Championship match has been added to the lineup for this week’s SmackDown.

IYO SKY will defend her title against the LWO’s Zelina Vega on the show. The match was officially confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

It will be SKY’s first televised defense since cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase on Bianca Belair at SummerSlam. She defended it twice last weekend on house shows in triple threat matches against Belair and Charlotte Flair, however.

Vega will be going for her first singles title in WWE. She’s a former WWE Women’s tag champion with Carmella and won the Queen’s Crown tournament in 2021.

Friday’s edition of SmackDown will take place from the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Rey Mysterio vs. Grayson Waller is the only other match announced thus far. WrestleTix currently lists 8,261 tickets as having been distributed for the show.

WWE SmackDown August 25, 2023 lineup:

  • WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY defends against Zelina Vega
  • Jimmy Uso appears
  • Rey Mysterio vs. Grayson Waller

Zelina Vega vs. IYO SKY set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Zelina Vega and IYO SKY are set to face off ahead of Money in the Bank.

On The SmackDown LowDown, a match between Vega and SKY was set up for next Friday’s episode of SmackDown. Vega interrupted an interview with Damage CTRL and challenged either SKY or Bayley to face her next week. Before Bayley could respond, SKY accepted.

Vega, SKY, and Bayley have all already qualified for this year’s women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. There has been dissension between SKY and Bayley leading into the pay-per-view.

Vega qualified for Money in the Bank by defeating Lacey Evans last week. SKY and Bayley defeated Shotzi and Michin in their respective qualifying matches.

Money in the Bank is being held in London on Saturday, July 1. The women’s ladder match will also feature Becky Lynch, Zoey Stark, and one more participant who has yet to be confirmed.

The updated lineup for next Friday’s SmackDown is listed below:

WWE SmackDown (June 16) —

  • Roman Reigns returns
  • AJ Styles & Michin vs. Karrion Kross & Scarlett
  • Gauntlet match to determine number one contenders to the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles: LWO vs. Brawling Brutes vs. Pretty Deadly vs. Street Profits vs. Gallows & Anderson
  • The Grayson Waller Effect with guest Charlotte Flair
  • Zelina Vega vs. IYO SKY

Two wrestlers qualify for WWE Money in the Bank ladder match

LA Knight and Zelina Vega have qualified for the upcoming Money in the Bank ladder matches.

Vega became the first to qualify for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match on Friday’s SmackDown, defeating Lacey Evans with a code red. The two confronted one another on the Grayson Waller Effect talk show prior to their match, with Evans striking Vega with the woman’s right before the match started as the ring was being cleared.

LA Knight defeated Montez Ford to qualify. The finish had Knight reverse a pin, using the ropes for leverage.

Qualifying matches began Monday on Raw, with Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura becoming the first to qualify for the men’s match. Qualifiers that will take place on next week’s SmackDown include Butch vs. Baron Corbin, Santos Escobar vs. Mustafa Ali, Michin vs. Bayley, and Shotzi vs. IYO SKY.

Money in the Bank will take place on July 1 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

New Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned on WWE Raw

Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Rousey & Baszler won a four-way for the vacant Tag titles on Monday’s Raw to win the titles for the first time as a duo.

Former title holders Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan were forced to relinquish the Tag titles after Morgan suffered an injury. Rodriguez teamed with Shotzi in Monday’s title match, which also featured teams of Bayley & IYO SKY, plus Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville.

Rousey secured the victory for her team by submitting Shotzi with an armbar.

The win is the third Women’s Tag title reign for Baszler, who twice captured the titles with Nia Jax. Baszler & Jax spent a combined 215 days as Tag champs over their two reigns.

Rousey once again holds gold in WWE for the first time since December 2022 when she dropped the SmackDown Women’s title to Charlotte Flair.

WWE’s Zelina Vega: Teaming with Rey Mysterio is ‘a dream come true’

Zelina Vega says teaming up with Rey Mysterio has been a dream come true.

Between the passionate response she received in Puerto Rico and being part of a major angle with the LWO, it’s been a whirlwind last couple of months for the 32-year-old. During a recent appearance on Wrestling with Freddie, Vega said that eight-year-old Thea Trinidad would be asking, ‘What is life?’ if she could see herself now.

Vega told Freddie Prinze Jr. that she was skeptical when first told she’d be managing Santos Escobar and Legado Del Fantasma. However, things have evolved considerably since then.

Vega said:

I was like, ‘[Escobar] doesn’t need me, though.’ He’s a great wrestler and a great promo, why does he need me? And the way it was explained to me was, well the group is new to the main roster, your very known by the SmackDown audience so by putting him with you, people go, ‘Oh okay, what’s this about? We already know her to be the heel manager, we know her to be the heel wrestler, so if she’s introducing them then that’s what they are about.’

Since then it’s evolved so much that it started there, and I didn’t even really do all that much talking to be honest, but it’s evolved so much. Being with Rey – and first of all, a dream come true, eight-year-old Thea is like what is life? – Now having Rey on our side and having the LWO be a thing again, it’s crazy, especially because Rey’s like, ‘You’re going to be the first-ever female ever in the LWO.’

Vega and Mysterio have teamed together twice since the reformation of the LWO. Along with Escobar, they were defeated by Judgment Day’s Priest, Dominik, and Ripley on the May 1 Raw. Mysterio and Vega then teamed together on the May 5 SmackDown and defeated Ripley and Priest.

Vega opened up about a variety of other topics during the interview. She spoke of her love of anime, being trained at an early age by her cousin, Amazing Red, and also an incident that happened between her and Sasha Banks in the summer of 2021.

Vega said:

When Sasha had just come out to save Bianca from Carmella and I and she had hit me with a Meteora and dude, I felt like my orbital bone broke. I was like, ‘Oh my god.’  And, of course, she was like super apologetic and whatever. But then I was like, ‘Just know, girl, you got a receipt…

I was so mad and then she’s like, ‘Okay, cool, like, whatever.’ Royal Rumble happens and I knew I was going to eliminate her and I was like, this is my moment. This is it. So, bruh, I think I kicked the soul out of her. I kicked her so hard, she flew back, and she landed on the floor and I see her just shaking her head like this, and I knew she knew that was what I was waiting for. Of course, we were fine after and it was funny but I remember Rhea going, ‘Oh, she was waiting for that one, yep, that’s the one.’

Asuka vs. Zelina Vega added to WWE SmackDown

Ahead of challenging for the Raw Women’s title at Night of Champions, Asuka will be in action on SmackDown tonight.

WWE has announced Asuka vs. Zelina Vega for tonight’s episode of SmackDown. The show is taking place at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina.

Asuka returned to WWE television last Friday and resumed her feud with Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. A celebration for Belair was being held, but Asuka ruined it by spitting mist into Belair’s face.

Belair retained the Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka at WrestleMania 39 this April. Both were then selected by SmackDown in the WWE Draft.

The rematch between Belair and Asuka is set for Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 27.

Vega was also recently in Women’s title contention. Rhea Ripley defeated Vega at Backlash to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

The updated card for tonight’s show is listed below:

  • Face-to-face segment with Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa and Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

Zelina Vega reflects on WWE Backlash: ‘My life changed forever’

Backlash was a life-changing night for Zelina Vega.

Vega, who is of Puerto Rican heritage, challenged Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Saturday’s pay-per-view in San Juan. Though she didn’t win the match, Vega received a huge reaction from the crowd that made her emotional.

Reflecting on the moment in a social media post on Sunday, Vega wrote that she’s so grateful for the support she received from everyone. Vega said it’s a match she’ll never forget — and it’s just the beginning of her journey to becoming a WWE Women’s Champion someday.

Vega also revealed that, after the match, Paul “Triple H” Levesque told Vega how proud he is of her.

Vega’s full post can be seen below:

Yo soy Boricua…pa’que tu lo sepas!!!

I woke up this morning with happy tears rolling down my face and PRAAAAYING that it wasn’t a dream like it always was.

I wish I could hug every. single. one of you in the audience and everyone sending their love from home. You have NO IDEA how much this meant to me. This weekend.. my life changed forever. I’m so honored.. so grateful and feel incredibly blessed to have had the support I had last night.. from the fans, my beautiful family, my hero’s, to my coworkers.. to finally hearing HHH say ‘I’m so proud of you.’ …and he was talking to me this time  I’m crying even typing this. To represent my people IN Puerto Rico.. man, I’ll never ever forget this.. neither will my family.. and I promise, you’ll get all of me EVERY TIME. This is not over, this is just the beginning.. someday I will become @wwe Women’s Champion.

Have to say, hitting the 619 for Rey, shimmying for Eddie Guerrero and then dropping Rhea with a meteora for my husband was the coolest thing ever.

Daddy, I love you.

The match between Vega and Ripley was part of the LWO’s feud with Judgment Day. While Ripley was successful in her match, Damian Priest lost a street fight to Bad Bunny later in the PPV.

The LWO and Judgment Day ended up on opposite brands in the WWE Draft. Judgment Day are now on Raw, while the LWO are on SmackDown.

Before Backlash, Vega, Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, and Cruz Del Toro all got matching LWO logo tattoos.
