New Women’s Tag Team Champions crowned on WWE Raw

Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Rousey & Baszler won a four-way for the vacant Tag titles on Monday’s Raw to win the titles for the first time as a duo.

Former title holders Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan were forced to relinquish the Tag titles after Morgan suffered an injury. Rodriguez teamed with Shotzi in Monday’s title match, which also featured teams of Bayley & IYO SKY, plus Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville.

Rousey secured the victory for her team by submitting Shotzi with an armbar.

The win is the third Women’s Tag title reign for Baszler, who twice captured the titles with Nia Jax. Baszler & Jax spent a combined 215 days as Tag champs over their two reigns.

Rousey once again holds gold in WWE for the first time since December 2022 when she dropped the SmackDown Women’s title to Charlotte Flair.

Sasha Banks vs. Queen Zelina announced for WWE SmackDown

Two matches have been announced for SmackDown next Friday.

Queen Zelina will face Sasha Banks, while Big E and Kofi Kingston will face Sheamus and Ridge Holland following an angle that took place on tonight’s show.

Zelina will face Banks after Naomi defeated Carmella on tonight’s SmackDown. On last week’s SmackDown, Banks and Naomi declared their intention to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles at WrestleMania 38. The following Monday on Raw, champions Zelina and Carmella accepted their challenge.

Big E and Sheamus were scheduled to face off in a match on tonight’s show. Kingston went to The New Day’s ATV and honked the horn. The scheduled match turned into an angle, where Holland grabbed a chair and struck Kingston. Sheamus then attacked Big E. Both Sheamus and Holland got into the ATV and drove away. Later backstage, footage was shown of Sheamus and Holland destroying the ATV.

Next week’s SmackDown will be held at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Carmella & Queen Zelina vs. Sasha Banks & Naomi set for WWE WrestleMania 38

Carmella and Queen Zelina have accepted the challenge from Naomi and Sasha Banks for a Women’s Tag Team title match at WrestleMania 38.

On tonight’s Raw, Carmella and Zelina said they accepted the challenge Naomi and Banks made on SmackDown this past Friday. The two were talking about Carmella and Corey Graves’ reality show on YouTube. Zelina remarked that all they talked about was sex. Carmella said if you thought that was something, when they retain the titles at WrestleMania, she planned to “celebrate” with her fiance in the ring.

After Banks defeated Shotzi on SmackDown Friday, Naomi entered the ring and announced they were going after the Women’s Tag Team titles.

Here are the current cards for both nights of WrestleMania, which will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas:

Night 1 (April 2)

  • Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship
  • Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship
  • Rey and Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz and Logan Paul

Night 2 (April 3)

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE and Universal Championships in a title unification match

Also announced:

  • Queen Zelina and Carmella vs. Sasha Banks and Naomi for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

WWE Main Event results: Liv Morgan vs. Queen Zelina

This week’s Main Event was taped at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina before Monday’s Raw.

Veer Mahaan defeated Apollo Crews (w/ Commander Azeez) (5:00)

This was a rematch from last week and ended with the same outcome. It was definitely a better contest than last time out and felt much pacier.

While Veer Mahaan is still undefeated and may or may not appear on Raw one day soon, Apollo Crews now only has one singles win since last August. They just aren’t pushing the act with Crews and Commander Azeez like they had been — and they looked weak again here.

Azeez got a cheap shot in early on but was sent packing far too easily at the finish. He’s such an enormous presence but isn’t being booked like he should be.

In this one and in last week’s match, Crews tried to get all his stuff into the short bout, but Mahaan had an answer for everything.

Mahaan is slowly improving and seems to enjoy being a babyface as he was here. He finished this one by pulling Crews down from the top rope and using a running splash/Thesz Press.

It remains to be seen what Mahaan’s finisher will be if and when he joins the main roster, as he’s now used three over the last few months.

Liv Morgan defeated Queen Zelina (w/ Carmella) (8:01)

This dragged a little as they were given too much time, but Zelina Vega is enjoying her gimmick and Liv Morgan looked good again here.

Not only was this the first time I can recall one half of the women’s tag team champions working a match on Main Event, this match also marked Vega’s debut on this show.

Logically, Morgan should have been given a tag partner and they could have worked a better match, but nothing tends to make much sense on this show. Carmella didn’t do much other than help Vega out of a pin late on.

Morgan recently worked the women’s Elimination Chamber match and has been up against Rhea Ripley and Doudrop of late, but this was the second time this year she has found herself on Main Event.

After the ad break, they got going into a much better pace and Morgan managed to come back and hit the Oblivion out of nowhere to get the win.

The way that Morgan powers up to quickly snap on Oblivion is really effective and is the kind of thing they could make way more of. This was a good win for her.

Final Thoughts —

Two pretty average matches this week on a show that continues to exist in a vacuum. It will be interesting to see what happens with Veer and whether post-WrestleMania we get any roster shake-ups that would bring some fresh faces to Main Event.
