First two matches announced for next WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Two matches are already announced for the next Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WWE’s next Saturday special will take place in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 23. On Raw, two title matches were announced, with The Vision set to defend the World Tag Team titles against The Street Profits. Meanwhile, the Intercontinental title will also be on the line when Penta defends against Ethan Page.

The Street Profits have been a thorn on Austin Theory and Logan Paul’s side ever since they returned on the Raw following WrestleMania. The two teams met face-to-face in the opening segment of Raw, with Montez Ford saying they were coming after the titles. After Joe Hendry came out and sang his ‘Fire Logan Paul’ song, he and the Street Profits went on to beat Bron Breakker, Paul, and Theory after Seth Rollins ran in and laid out Bron Breakker, causing a distraction and allowing Angelo Dawkins to pin Theory with a schoolboy.

Later in the night, Penta arrived and said if Ethan Page wanted a title match, he should say it to his face. Page came out and said that since he pinned Penta last week, he should get a title match. Penta offered to defend the title right then and there, but Page said he wasn’t ready and challenged Penta to a match for Saturday Night’s Main Event instead. Penta accepted, saying he was ready for war.

Hijo del Vikingo to confront Penta on next week’s AAA Rey de Reyes week 3

Vikingo wants to move on, and has selected his next target.

During week 2 of AAA Rey de Reyes, Dorian Roldan was seen talking on the phone with his mother while Vikingo threw a fit in the background, upset that he could never challenge for the AAA Mega title again while Dominik Mysterio was champion. He blamed Mini Vikingo for his loss in the main event of last week’s program. Roldan told him to let it go and focus on something else: Penta’s Intercontinental title. Later, it was confirmed that Vikingo would call out Penta next week.

Also scheduled for week 3 of Rey de Reyes is El Fiscal facing off against Abismo Negro again. The two have feuded for some time over the Abismo Negro name, with Fiscal being the son of the original Abismo Negro. The two met recently with Abismo winning by DQ, and later participated in a Rey de Reyes qualifier but ended up brawling to the back.

A four-way match will also take place for the AAA Cruiserweight title. Laredo Kid will defend against Jack Cartwheel, TJ Perkins, and Dragon Lee.

Penta to defend Intercontinental title on WWE Raw

A match for the Intercontinental title is set for Raw.

It was announced on Sunday by Adam Pearce that new champion Penta will defend against the Original El Grande Americano (Chad Gable). This is based off a segment from last week’s show that saw Americano wish Penta the best of luck in his upcoming title match, saying he wanted a future title match. Penta agreed and went on to become champion, defeating Dominik Mysterio after miscommunication between Mysterio and his Judgement Day stablemates.

Aside from John Cena’s short reign with the title, Mysterio had held the Intercontinental title since WrestleMania 41. Shortly before the match on Monday he ran into Danhausen, who had made his debut a few days earlier. The meeting didn’t go down well and the new WWE personality ended up cursing Mysterio, perhaps leading to his downfall shortly thereafter.

Chad Gable returned to WWE as the masked Original El Grande Americano at the Royal Rumble and has been feuding with the second El Grande Americano (Ludvig Kaiser) since then. In AAA, the new Americano has been a face while the original has been a heel while on main roster WWE television, those roles have been reversed.

The updated lineup for Raw:

WWE Raw (March 9)

  • Intercontinental title: Penta defends against Original El Grande Americano
  • Women’s Intercontinental title number one contender’s gauntlet match: Raquel Rodriguez vs. Bayley vs. Lyra Valkyria vs. IYO SKY vs. Asuka vs. Ivy Nile
  • Oba Femi vs. Rusev

Roman Reigns return, Intercontinental title match set for next WWE Raw

Roman Reigns will resurface on the next episode of Raw.

CM Punk announced during this week’s show that Reigns would be appearing on next week in Indianapolis. After fans booed the fact that Reigns wasn’t on Monday’s show, Punk said they wouldn’t be booing him because he was here every Monday making every town on every tour, unlike Reigns. He then turned his attention to his Elimination Chamber opponent Finn Balor.

Reigns was last seen on the Raw following the Royal Rumble confronting Punk. The two exchanged words before Reigns revealed he had already made his choice for WrestleMania, telling Punk that he hated him.

Dominik Mysterio will also be in action, taking on Penta in a match for the Intercontinental title. Penta defeated El Grande Americano on last week’s show to earn the title shot.

Gunther will also face Dragon Lee, who is seeking revenge on behalf of AJ Styles. This week’s Raw opened with The Ring General coming out and telling fans in Atlanta they should be celebrating him instead of Styles. Adam Pearce came out and had security escort Gunther out of the building. Gunther started to make his exit but was jumped by Lee as the two brawled backstage.

WWE Raw (March 2)

  • Roman Reigns returns
  • Intercontinental title: Dominik Mysterio defends against Penta
  • Gunther vs. Dragon Lee

Two title matches added to WWE Survivor Series WarGames

Two new title matches are set for Survivor Series.

The open of Monday’s Raw saw new Intercontinental Champion John Cena come out for a promo but was immediately interrupted by former champion Dominik Mysterio, who was unhappy about his loss the previous week. He threw out the challenge for a rematch on his home turf: Survivor Series in San Diego. Cena agreed to the match, setting the stage for what will be his final premium live event match.

After some more back and forth, Cena wrestled his final match on Raw. He teamed with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio to defeat Dominik, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh, scoring the win for his team with the AA.

Stephanie Vaquer will defend the Women’s World Championship against a newly-heel Nikki Bella, who last week attacked Vaquer from behind after initially making the save for her against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. As Vaquer made her entrance on Monday, Bella again attacked her from behind. She cut a promo saying she didn’t return to WWE to sit at the sidelines and thanked Vaquer for reminding her who she is.

The updated lineup for Survivor Series:

WWE Survivor Series: WarGames (November 29)

  • Men’s WarGames match: CM Punk, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes vs. Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed
  • Women’s WarGames match: Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, Alexa Bliss, and Charlotte Flair vs. Nia Jax, Lash Legend, Asuka, and Kairi Sane
  • Intercontinental Championship: John Cena defends against Dominik Mysterio
  • Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer defends against Nikki Bella

John Cena wins Intercontinental title on WWE Raw

John Cena is the new Intercontinental Champion.

Cena was talking to his hometown Boston crowd on Raw when he was interrupted by Dominik Mysterio, who claimed he could have whooped Cena in any era. Triple H, who opened Raw by introducing Cena, took those words to heart and set up a title match right then and there. Althought Mysterio attempted to cheat similar to Eddie Guerrero, Cena absorbed a frog splash, floated over, and pinned Mysterio to win the Intercontinental title for the first time in his career.

Cena celebrated his title win after the match, pyro going off as he posed on the top rope. When he got backstage, he was applauded by most of the roster, including Rey Mysterio, who has recently reignited his longtime feud with his son. At the very end of the line was Cody Rhodes, who also offered his congratulations.

With the win, John Cena now only has three appearances left in his retirement tour. One will be at next week’s Raw at Madison Square Garden, and another will be at Survivor Series in San Diego later this month. His final match will be at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.

Intercontinental title match added to WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

A fourth title match is now set for Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Dominik Mysterio will now defend the Intercontinental title in a triple threat match this Saturday in Salt Lake City against Penta and Rusev. This follows events on Monday’s Raw that saw the number one contendership match fall apart thanks to the actions of Mysterio and El Grande Americano.

Before the bout, Dominik was upset about the number one contenders match and wanted help from his Judgement Day friends. Finn Balor and JD McDonagh instead decided to focus on getting the World Tag Team titles back while Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez chose to focus on Perez’s match against Nikki Bella. Mysterio was seen on the phone with someone as he made his exit. Penta and Rusev were wrestling on Raw when suddenly, Americano and his two associates Rayo and Bravo ran in and attacked both men. Rusev took out Rayo and Bravo, but Grande managed to escape before Penta could lay him out.

Later backstage, Mysterio seemed stunned by the events that took place and told Adam Pearce he assumed that Penta and Rusev would naturally want to go after Los Americanos next. Pearce dismissed that idea, making the triple threat match official for Saturday.

Saturday Night’s Main Event (November 1)

  • WWE World Heavyweight title: CM Punk vs. Jey Uso
  • WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes defends against Drew McIntyre
  • WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton defends against Jade Cargill
  • Three-way for WWE Intercontinental title: Dominik Mysterio defends against Penta and Rusev

Intercontinental title match official for WWE Night of Champions

A match for the Intercontinental title is set for Saudi Arabia.

It was made official on Raw that Dominik Mysterio would be defending the Intercontinental title against AJ Styles on June 28 in Riyadh. This comes following an altercation the two had on Monday’s show in Green Bay.

After Styles defeated Judgment Day member JD McDonagh, Mysterio attacked Styles, who ended up getting the upper hand and sent Mysterio out of the ring. He posed with Mysterio’s championship as the champion retreated to the back with Finn Balor.

Later backstage, Styles handed the title back to Aldis who told Styles he’ll get a chance at keeping the title if he was able to defeat Mysterio at Night of Champions.

Back in May, Styles told Mysterio that he would be coming after his title.

Night of Champions lineup for June 28:

  • WWE Championship: John Cena defends against CM Punk
  • WWE Intercontinental title: Dominik Mysterio defends against AJ Styles
  • King of the Ring finals: Sami Zayn or Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes or Jey Uso
  • Queen of the Ring finals: Roxanne Perez or Jade Cargill vs. Alexa Bliss or Asuka

Dominik Mysterio wins Intercontinental title at WWE WrestleMania 41

Dominik Mysterio is Intercontinental Champion.

Mysterio outlasted three other men at WrestleMania 41 Sunday to become the new champion. The finish of the match had Finn Balor lay out Breakker with the coup de gras. However, Mysterio was ready on the top rope and pinned Balor to become champion for the first time.

Breakker had been champion for over 180 days, defeating Jey Uso back in October on an episode of Raw. It was his second reign as champion, defeating Sami Zayn last year.

Breakker had wins over Penta, Balor, and Mysterio in the weeks leading to the match. He had also successfully defended the title against Penta and Balor. During that time, dissension also grew between Mysterio and Balor, with Liv Morgan encouraging Mysterio to get involved and put himself in the title picture.

This was the first title change of the second night of WrestleMania 41. In the opener, IYO SKY retained the Women’s World title over Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley.

Penta challenges Bron Breakker to WWE Intercontinental title match

Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker might have his challenger for WrestleMania 41.

Monday’s episode of Raw made clear that Penta is next in line to challenge Breakker for the IC title. After Breakker retained against Finn Balor in tonight’s main event, the show-closing angle saw Penta save Breakker from an attack by The Judgment Day. They worked together to take out Dominik Mysterio and Carlito, then Breakker and Penta went face-to-face as the episode ended.

Penta defeated Ludwig Kaiser in a no DQ match earlier in the night and gave a post-match interview where he declared that his next goal is to win the Intercontinental title. An official announcement of the Breakker vs. Penta match has not been made yet — and WWE has not confirmed if it will be one-on-one.

If the match is booked for WrestleMania 41, it will be both Breakker and Penta’s WrestleMania debut. Penta has not been pinned or submitted since joining WWE this January.

A two-time Intercontinental Champion, Breakker’s current reign began in October 2024. He retained against Balor on Raw tonight after botched interference by Dominik, who accidentally caused Balor to lose his balance on the top rope. A Frankensteiner and spear then got the win for Breakker.
