AEW Collision live results: FTR vs. Grizzled Young Veterans

A long-awaited match between FTR and Grizzled Young Veterans is set for tonight’s AEW Collision.

The feud between the two teams dates back to All In when GYV made their AEW return by jumping FTR after failing to capture the Tag Team titles from the Young Bucks.

TNT Champion Jack Perry will put the title up against Christopher Daniels who answered Perry’s open challenge during Rampage. He said while he is still an interim EVP, he is still a wrestler at heart.

Yuka Sakazaki, who has been out of action with injury, will make her return to take on Serena Deeb.

Other matches will see The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly) team with Hologram against The Beast Mortos and the Premier Athletes, Private Party & Komander will be in action, Bang Bang Gang will take on the Cage Of Agony, Queen Aminata will face Robyn Renegade, and Wheeler Yuta will face Anthony Henry.

**********

Collision began with TNT Champion Jack Perry riding to the Nutter Center in his Scapegoat bus. He walked in from the parking lot and made his entrance for the opening match. Tony Schiavone & Arthur Ashe Stadium headliner Nigel McGuinness were on the call.

AEW TNT Title Match – Jack Perry defeated Christopher Daniels to retain

A simple TV win for Perry. I understand Daniels going for a measure of revenge against the Elite, but what are we doing here? Is Daniels still the Vice Principal? Is this power struggle still happening? Most importantly, would anyone care if this aspect of the Elite was dropped cold? It’s a bad story that would serve everyone better if they left it in the rearview.

This match came about after Vice Principal Daniels accepted Perry’s open challenge on last night’s Rampage. It was announced during the entrances that Hook vs. Roderick Strong for the FTW Championship was official for Dynamite: Grand Slam.

After the opening exchanges, Perry took advantage with a rebound lariat. Perry held serve, scoring a nearfall off of a missile dropkick. Daniels got a cut on the top of his head but was able to catch Perry with an STO. He fired up, hitting another STO and a Death Valley Driver for a nearfall. An Angel’s Wings counter led to a pinning predicament that ended with Perry sending Daniels into the mat with force by holding onto the ropes on an O’Connor Roll. Perry hit the Glass Jaw knee to retain the title.

After the match, Perry said that the people who don’t like him are the ones who can’t handle the truth. He then got on his bus and drove away.

A visibly distracted Wheeler Yuta was in the back with Lexy Nair, saying that he didn’t want to share any information about Bryan Danielson out of respect for his family. He hadn’t spoken to any of the other BCC members since All Out and would try to use Danielson’s lessons to focus for his match tonight.

Hologram & The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly & Mark Briscoe) defeated The Beast Mortos & The Premier Athletes (Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese) (w/Josh Woods & Mark Sterling)

During their entrance, Sterling explained that he used some of Daivari’s money to pay off Mortos to help the Athletes with their Conglomeration & Hologram problems. Mortos seemingly took control with shoulder blocks to all three of his opponents, but Hologram came back with a lucha armdrag that sent Mortos to the floor. O’Reilly got caught on the wrong side of the ring, getting boots from everyone on the floor as we went to a commercial.

O’Reilly fought for the tag as we came back, getting the hot tag to Briscoe. Briscoe ran wild, getting the fisherman’s buster on Nese for a nearfall. Briscoe sent Mortos to the floor, but Nese caught the now-legal Hologram with a rolling uppercut. Hologram hit a Destroyer to Nese, kicking off a move train that turned into a dive train, ending with Briscoe hitting his step-up dive off an interfering Sterling’s back. Hologram hit a 720 DDT for the win.

After the match, Mortos attacked Hologram before O’Reilly and Briscoe fought him off.

We got footage of Orange Cassidy & Chris Jericho at last night’s CMLL Anniversary show. Cassidy was in a trios match, while Jericho wrestled Mistico in the main event. After Jericho’s match, Cassidy helped Mistico fight off a Jericho & Big Bill post-match attack. Cassidy was with Renee Paquette for an interview but was quickly attacked by the Learning Tree. They stuck Cassidy’s head in the stolen backpack before Jericho broke the Best Friends picture over Cassidy’s head…which was in a backpack. Seems a little backwards.

There was a short video – no pun intended – with Stokely Hathaway looking for some AEW tape to watch. All of his choices were tag team matches from AEW/ROH history, like Swerve in Our Glory vs. The Acclaimed & The Young Bucks vs. Sting & Darby Allin. It seems like Stokely may be interested in the tag team titles.

AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May was backstage with Lexy Nair, where she announced that she wouldn’t be having her championship celebration in the Wish version of Cincinnati known as Dayton, Ohio. May said that she had her best times with Mina Shirakawa and that she needed Shirakawa to properly celebrate. Yuka Sakazaki introduced herself and said that she wanted May’s belt. May said that she would rip Sakazaki’s head off, and Sakazaki promptly no-sold her.

Wheeler Yuta defeated Anthony Henry (w/ Beef)

This was a good match, with Henry taking advantage of Yuta’s absentmindedness until he brought up Bryan Danielson. Yuta is going to be a pivotal part of this BCC implosion angle one way or another, so it’s good to see him get some TV wins in the meantime.

McGuinness noted that Yuta forgot to tape his wrists, noting that he wasn’t in a good headspace and was forgetting details. Henry had control early on, hitting a double stomp. Yuta got hit with a forearm and attempted his rebound into the ring but fell to the floor instead. Henry dumped Yuta into the barricade with a suplex.

After a commercial, Henry scored a nearfall with an Air Raid Crash. Yuta was able to hit his rebound into the ring on the second attempt, scoring with a German suplex. Henry rocked Yuta with a knee, then caught Yuta on the outside with a running dropkick. Henry hit a top-rope double stomp in the ring for a nearfall.

Henry mocked Bryan Danielson, which fired Yuta up. Yuta clubbered on Henry in the corner before hitting a dive to Henry on the floor. Yuta took Henry on a barricade tour around the ring and dropped Beef with a boot. Yuta drilled Henry with the hammer-and-anvil elbows and got the submission with the Cattle Mutilation.

Serena Deeb & Queen Aminata were backstage with Lexy Nair. Deeb said that Aminata had a lot of potential, but she wasn’t ready to be a top star. Her offer to join Deeb’s Dojo still stood, but Aminata didn’t have time for it as she had her own match to get ready for. Deeb turned her attention to her opponent tonight, Yuka Sakazaki. She brought up their abandoned feud from earlier this year, saying that the mere thought of fighting Deeb caused Sakazaki to break her leg, and that Deeb would make things much worse tonight.

Anna Jay was backstage. She talked about her Japanese tour with Stardom, noting that she was tired and beat up, but still wanted more. She owed Mariah May a receipt and had never been in the ring with Mercedes Mone. Jay said that if anyone wanted to see how much better she was, they could try her.

Komander & Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) (w/Alex Abrahantes) defeated Jon Cruz, Lord Crewe & Ren Jones

In a pre-match interview, Private Party wasn’t happy with how their match got taken away from them on Dynamite by Jon Moxley’s Fight Cult – not an official name – and said that they have never backed down from a fight. Kassidy said that they would cross paths at some point. I don’t like Private Party’s chances.

This is apparently the match that was meant to happen on Dynamite. I like the continuity of running the match on the weekend show. Komander hit a big ropewalk dive, then elevated Quen into position for the Gin & Juice to get the win.

Tony Schiavone asked Nigel McGuinness how he could be sure that Bryan Danielson would be able to compete at Grand Slam. McGuinness said that he nor Tony Khan were sure. He explained that Jon Moxley was only speculating that Danielson would miss Grand Slam. Since Darby Allin put his scheduled title shot against Danielson on the line instead, McGuinness asked for a match with Danielson in case he was cleared in time for the show. McGuinness said that if Danielson didn’t show up, it would be out of cowardice, not out of physical inability.

McGuinness threw to a highlight package of his matches with Danielson in Ring of Honor, saying that no one had beaten Danielson as convincingly as he had. Sixteen years later, McGuinness was in the best shape of his life, while Danielson was a physical wreck. At the commentary desk, McGuinness said that even though Danielson would still be World Champion after Grand Slam, he would still end Danielson’s career in New York.

(This was both build for the McGuinness/Danielson match, and an attempt to patch over the plot hole from Dynamite regarding Darby Allin’s title shot. It was a fine attempt, explaining that Moxley basically conned Allin into putting his title match on the line. But if Danielson can possibly be cleared for Grand Slam, then Allin should still get the title match that he earned for that show. They worked themselves into a logic gap, then tried to smooth it over after the fact. I get doing the violent angle on the PPV to get people talking and get some late buys, but it would have been smoother to do it at Grand Slam itself to get Allin’s title match out of the way. He can earn another one down the line if that’s the direction they want to go.)

Yuka Sakazaki defeated Serena Deeb

While Sakazaki’s music annoys the hell out of me, she’s a fresh name for Mariah May to defend against.

AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May came out to commentary, asking McGuinness if she inspired his comeback. Sakazaki took Deeb around the world in a pinning combination, but Deeb came back with a neckbreaker in the ropes as we went to commercial.

After the break, Sakazaki made her comeback, scoring with a missile dropkick and a suplex. May kept assuming that Sakazaki was a child. Deeb hit a German suplex and a short-arm clothesline for a nearfall. Sakazaki fought out of a Detox position and hit a sliding lariat for a nearfall. Deeb hit a powerbomb and locked on a Stretch Muffler. Sakazaki got to the ropes and got back to her feet, trading forearms with Deeb until Deeb dropped her with a lariat. Deeb went for Detox, but Sakazaki pulled her up into a Northern Lights Bomb. Sakazaki hit the Magical Girl Splash for the win.

After the match, May jumped Sakazaki on the ramp. May went for the Storm Zero, but Sakazaki fought out and dropped her with a superkick. Sakazaki held up the Women’s Title belt as the crowd chanted her name.

We got another stylized video from The Outrunners.

Top Flight, Lio Rush, & Action Andretti were walking outside when Andretti got hot about their recent results. He was upset at how all of them had lost big opportunities this week, while the rest of the group tried to calm him down. Andretti said that they needed to get their act together and stormed off.

Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson, Austin & Colten Gunn) defeated Cage Of Agony (Bishop Kaun, Brian Cage & Toa Liona)

Kaun cut off Austin Gunn with a lariat to take control after the opening exchanges. After a commercial, Colten got the hot tag and ran wild, scoring a nearfall with a jumping chop to Liona’s head. The referee missed a small package trying to clear the ring, allowing Liona to hit a Pounce. The Pendulum Powerbomb from Cage of Agony got a nearfall broken up by Robinson.

Austin low-bridged Cage as he hit the ropes, allowing Colten to drop both Gates with a DDT. Robinson tagged in and ran wild on Cage. Cage countered The Juice Is Loose and hit a discus lariat, running wild on all three of his opponents. Another pendulum powerbomb got cut off, with the Gunns hitting Cage with the 3:10 To Yuma. Robinson hit The Juice Is Loose to get the win.

An angry Serena Deeb was in the back when Queen Aminata walked past for her match. She mockingly asked Deeb if her performance in her loss was how it was done.

Queen Aminata defeated Robyn Renegade

Aminata vs. Deeb can be a solid feud to get Aminata some focus.

Renegade gave a solid effort in her hometown, but Aminata scored the win with the Brain Drain headbutt. After the match, Serena Deeb jumped Aminata after the match with a chop block. Deeb held Aminata in a single-leg crab until the referee corps forced her away.

The House of Black were in their dark room. Matthews said that someone challenged them and that they didn’t like their odds. I think they were referring to Top Flight, as Andretti said something about Brody King in their segment earlier tonight.

FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) defeated Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson)

This was an odd result. The Grizzled Young Veterans just came in, and FTR are bulletproof as a team. Why put them over instead of the new team? This was a solid match, but it felt like they were holding back for another match.

Harwood and Drake traded shots to start, with Wheeler scoring a quick count on a slingshot shoulder block. Drake dragged Harwood to their corner and got a tag to Gibson, who helped Drake hit quick offense on Harwood to get the upper hand. Wheeler laid out Gibson with a lariat, allowing Harwood to get a nearfall on Drake with a sunset flip. Harwood hit a belly-to-back suplex as we went to commercial.

After the commercial, the Veterans had control of Harwood, hitting another flurry of offense to keep Harwood from making the tag. Harwood made the tag, but Gibson took the referee’s attention to keep the tag from being registered. Harwood ducked a leg lariat and made his way to the corner for the legal tag, allowing Wheeler to run wild. Drake countered a powerslam into a small package for a nearfall.

Gibson snuck a tag, holding Wheeler in place for a Drake enzuigiri. They went for Grit Your Teeth, but Harwood pulled Drake out of the ring. We got a pinning predicament, ending with Drake cutting off a spike piledriver and Gibson hitting a hammerlock driver. Wheeler cut off a Doomsday Device, allowing Harwood to lock on a Sharpshooter. Drake submitted, but the Veterans kept brawling with FTR after the match. The Outrunners came out to make the save for FTR and shook hands with them afterwards.

The card for Dynamite was run down, with the addition of Mariah May & Serena Deeb vs. Queen Aminata & Yuka Sakazaki. Also announced for next week’s Collision was Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara vs. Matt Taven & Mike Bennett in a Bunkhouse Brawl for the ROH World Tag Team Titles.

TNT Champion Jack Perry vs. Christopher Daniels set for AEW Collision

Image: AEW

The full card has been rounded out for Saturday’s AEW Collision as the road to this month’s Grand Slam in Queens, New York, continues.

On Friday’s edition of AEW Rampage, authority figure Christopher Daniels called out TNT Champion Jack Perry, saying he and Perry haven’t seen eye-to-eye but Daniels didn’t want the champion to forget he was still a wrestler. He then said he wanted to answer Perry’s open challenge for the title.

A trio of trios matches are on tap, headed up by The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly) and Hologram) taking on the unorthodox team of The Beast Mortos and Premier Athletes, represented by Tony Nese & Ari Daivari.

After the match was agreed to recently, the Bang Bang Gang will face the Cage of Agony.

After being beat up by the new Jon Moxley-led faction on Wednesday, Private Party and Komander will be in action.

After the shocking events of All Out where the Blackpool Combat Club turned on Bryan Danielson as Wheeler Yuta (seen above) was held back by PAC, Yuta will return to singles action for the first time since then as he battles Anthony Henry.

After unsuccessfully challenging AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May in a title eliminator Wednesday, Queen Aminata will look to get back on track against Robyn Renegade.

The new additions join the previously announced FTR vs. Grizzled Young Veterans, and Yuka Sakazaki vs. Serena Deeb matches.

Here’s the current lineup set for TV:

  • FTR vs. Grizzled Young Veterans
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Christopher Daniels
  • The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly) and Hologram vs. The Beast Mortos and Premier Athletes (Tony Nese & Ari Daivari)
  • Wheeler Yuta vs. Anthony Henry
  • Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) & Komander in action
  • Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn) vs. Cage of Agony (Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona)
  • Yuka Sakazaki vs. Serena Deeb
  • Queen Aminata vs. Robyn Renegade

New Trios champions crowned at AEW All In

In one of many memorable moments from AEW’s return to Wembley Stadium, hometown favorite PAC, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta became the new AEW Trios Champions at All In in London.

The makeshift threesome defeated reigning champions The Patriarchy, the House of Black and the Bang Bang Gang in a four-way London ladder match to take the titles.

The end came when Christian Cage was moving up the ladder on the shoulders of Killswitch and was about to grab the belt when PAC ran up the ladder to engage Cage in a exchange of fists. Cage eventually got shoved off the ladder which left PAC alone to grab one of the belts to win the match.

The 38-year-old PAC is from England’s Newcastle upon Tyne.

It’s PAC’s second run with the gold as he, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix won the titles in September 2022, holding them for 126 days before losing them to The Elite (Young Bucks & Kenny Omega) in the final match in a best-of-seven series in January 2023.

It’s the first AEW title of any kind for either Castagnoli or Yuta who have both held Ring of Honor titles before.

The win ends the short run for Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne which began just over a month ago on Collision. Sunday was the first defense of their titles.

PAC, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta advance to AEW All In London Ladder match

The final team for the upcoming London Ladder match has been decided.

The Wild Card in Cardiff match on Saturday’s Collision saw the team of PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta defeat Top Flight and Lio Rush. They will now advance to All In, where they will compete in a four-way London Ladder match for the AEW Trios titles.

After PAC, Castagnoli, and Yuta won, one third of the Trios Champions Christian Cage came out and declared he was the godfather of the ladder match. This all served as a distraction as the other two thirds of The Patriarchy, Killswitch and Nick Wayne, attacked their future opponents with steel chairs. The Bang Bang Gang and The House of Black both came out and started to brawl with the other two teams as the show went off the air.

The All In card for Sunday, August 25:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Bryan Danielson
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mariah May
  • AEW American Champion MJF defends against Will Ospreay
  • TNT Champion Jack Perry defends against Darby Allin in a coffin match
  • AEW Trios Champions The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Killswitch, and Nick Wayne) defend against The Bang Bang Gang, The House of Black, and PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta in a London ladder match
  • AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defend against The Acclaimed and FTR
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Britt Baker
  • Casino gauntlet match for future AEW World title shot (Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Hangman Page, Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe, Evil Uno confirmed entrants)
  • FTW Champion Chris Jericho defends against Hook
  • Zero Hour: Willow Nightingale & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway, winners get to pick stipulation to Nightingale/Statlander CMLL Women’s title match for All Out

AEW Collision live results: All In go-home show

The final show before All In has arrived with Saturday’s Collision from Cardiff, Wales.

The taped show will feature a Wild Card in Cardiff match to determine the final spot in the London Ladders match for the AEW Trios titles at All In. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) and PAC will face Top Flight & Lio Rush to determine who makes it to Wembley Stadium.

Other matches will see The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly) take on The Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Matt Taven & Mike Bennett). Hook will face Big Bill, Willow Nightingale will square off against Harley Cameron, Jeff Jarrett will compete against Ariya Daivari, and Katsuyori Shibata will take on Jay Lethal.

Kris Statlander and Stokley Hathaway will also be in action ahead of their mixed tag match against Nightingale and Tomohiro Ishii on All In’s Zero Hour pre-show.

Additionally, TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz will narrate the story of Toni Storm and Mariah May ahead of their All In title match.

**********

AEW Collision comes to us this week live – to tape – from Cardiff, Wales, just one day before All In Wembley. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call as the Conglomeration made their entrance for the opening match.

The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe & Orange Cassidy) defeated The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven, Mike Bennett & Roderick Strong)

While I don’t need any more of the Conglomeration/Kingdom pairing, this was a fun opener. The cut to a stoic, unmoving Ishii on commentary did make me laugh very hard.

Conglomeration member Tomohiro Ishii joined the booth, and he was a real chatterbox. Briscoe and Bennett started the match with chops. O’Reilly tagged in and brought the fight to all three of the Kingdom, including a train of leg whips to Bennett and Taven. Cassidy tagged in and continued the offense, taking Bennett and Strong down with tornado DDTs. Bennett and Taven caught Cassidy with a spike piledriver, but some confusion on the legal man allowed Cassidy’s partners to break up the cover.

Cassidy fought his way to the corner and tagged in Briscoe, who ran wild until Strong cut off a dive attempt. We got a dive train, ending with Strong dropping Briscoe on a chair as he went for his chair-assisted tope. The Kingdom was working on Briscoe in their corner after a commercial break. Briscoe fought to the corner and got a tag into O’Reilly, who ran wild. The Conglomeration hit a set of dives for a nearfall.

Bennett caught O’Reilly with a DVD, with Taven following with Just The Tip for a nearfall. Strong beat on O’Reilly for multiple nearfalls, but O’Reilly countered a Tiger Bomb into a guillotine. O’Reilly transitioned to an ankle lock, but the hold got broken up. We got a move train ending with Briscoe hitting his chair dive. O’Reilly caught Taven in a guillotine choke and scored the win.

We got a video package recapping the recent history of the Trios Titles, going over Death Triangle’s challenge of the Bang Bang Gang at Double or Nothing, The House of Black earning a Trios Title shot, and The Patriarchy cheating their way to the titles.

Willow Nightingale defeated Harley Cameron

Ishii is still sitting at the commentary desk, where Nightingale gave him a big hug during her entrance. Nightingale handled Cameron until she tried for the Babe With The Powerbomb, when Cameron fought out and hit a Side Russian Leg Sweep for a nearfall. Cameron hit Sole Food and a Shining Wizard for a nearfall.

Nightingale got a glimpse of Ishii on commentary and fired up, dropping Cameron with a forearm and hitting the Babe With The Powerbomb for the win. Ishii came into the ring and raised Nightingale’s hand in victory.

Private Party was backstage with Lexy Nair, where she announced that they were the official emcees for All In. They were excited, then got a call from their assistant and left. Nair welcomed the ROH World Tag Team Champions Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes. There was an open challenge laid out for a ten-man tag match at Wembley, with Guevara and Rhodes teaming with the Von Erichs and Katsuyori Shibata. Shibata entered the frame and, through text-to-speech, said that he would lasso them a win at Wembley.

(I don’t need hosts for wrestling shows. I am excited about a little pre-show action with the ROH crew.)

Katsuyori Shibata (w/Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) defeated Jay Lethal (w/Satnam Singh & Sonjay Dutt)

A professional encounter, if not a very heated one.

Lethal focused on Shibata’s leg, setting up a Figure Four, but Shibata kicked his way free. Shibata hit a pair of bicep stomps before kicking Lethal to the outside. After a commercial, Lethal caught Shibata with a Dragon Screw before locking on the Figure Four. Shibata got to the ropes and cut off a Lethal Injection attempt, but Lethal caught him with the Lethal Combination.

Lethal went for Hail To The King, but Shibata caught him in an armbar. Shibata sent Lethal to the corner and hit his hesitation dropkick. Lethal went for kicks to the knee before Shibata dropped him with an STO. Shibata hit the Rainmaker-style slap, locked on the Von Erich Claw, and then transitioned into an armbar for the submission win. Shibata offered a handshake after the match, and Lethal accepted.

We got a video package of MJF & Will Ospreay’s face-off from Dynamite.

Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway trained for their Wembley match at Create A Pro Wrestling Academy. Statlander said that she had been overlooked for too long and that it was their time now.

Kris Statlander & Stokely Hathaway defeated Kid Lykos II & Nina Samuels

Hathaway shook hands before Statlander clotheslined both of them. Hathaway tagged in and hit Lykos with a main-event spinebuster. Statlander tagged in and hit Lykos with an F-5 and a Babe With The Powerbomb. Statlander tagged Hathaway in and dumped him onto Lykos, with Hathaway getting the pin.

After the match, Hathaway said that this match was a preview of what would come at Wembley against Willow Nightingale & Tomohiro Ishii. Hathaway said that when they were done, Nightingale & Ishii’s careers would be like the food in England: absolutely rubbish. McGuinness made sure to note that they were in Wales.

We got a video package recapping the history between Toni Storm and Mariah May, narrated by Ben Mankiewicz of Turner Classic Movies.

Hook defeated Big Bill (w/Bryan Keith)

A wild atmosphere, as this rowdy crowd suddenly decided that Big Bill was the top babyface in the territory.

FTW Champion Chris Jericho joined commentary as Hook charged Bill to start. Bill dumped Hook with a fallaway slam. The crowd started cheering for Bill as he clubbered on Hook. After the commercial, we came back to the crowd giving Bill a standing ovation. Jericho said that the crowd was cheering Bill to spite him after he told the crowd to shut up. A decent attempt from Jericho to contextualize this.

Bill mocked Hook then told the crowd to shut up as they continued cheering him. Hook dodged a couple of charges from Bill, then hit a big suplex. Bryan Keith charged Hook, but Hook dumped him with a T-Bone suplex. Bill sent Hook into the corner, but Hook caught him with the Redrum and got the submission. Hook stared down Jericho at the desk.

We got a video package of Jack Perry with his TNT Title. He said that no one was worthy of holding his TNT Title, as no one had made the sacrifices that he had made. Perry told Darby Allin that the only way he would close the coffin on him was if he was dead.

We got a recap of the face-off between Swerve Strickland & Bryan Danielson from Dynamite.

Jeff Jarrett (w/Karen Jarrett) defeated Ariya Daivari

If Jeff Jarrett was this over at any point in the last 20 years, TNA would still be on Spike TV. This Wales crowd was fired up for some Double J.

Daivari came to the ring getting some cheap heat, noting that Wales doesn’t have a Premier League team. After both men hit the corners for cheers, with only Jarrett getting them, Daivari jumped Jarrett and mocked the Fargo Strut. Daivari mocked him again before Jarrett socked him in the face and sent him into the turnbuckles. The crowd chanted for Jarrett as we went to a commercial break.

Jarrett pinballed Daivari around the outside as we came back from the break. Daivari caught Jarrett with a baseball slide as he came back into the ring. Jarrett almost caught Daivari with a sleeper hold, but Daivari reversed into one of his own. Jarrett fought out and fired up, getting a nearfall with a Russian Leg Sweep. Jarrett hit an enzuigiri and the squisher before hitting the Fargo Strut. Jarrett ducked a high cross attempt and hit the Stroke for the win.

We got a Hologram highlight reel.

We got a rundown of the All In card, with a ten-man tag match added to the Zero Hour. It will be Dustin Rhodes, Sammy Guevara, Katsuyori Shibata, & The Von Erichs vs. The Cage of Agony, Mike Bennett, & Matt Taven.

Winning Team Enters London Ladder Match at All In – Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & PAC defeated Lio Rush & Top Flight (Dante Martin & Darius Martin)

An odd way to get PAC his “Wembley Moment,” but he got there. Credit to Claudio Castagnoli, wrestling 20 minutes on Dynamite, working this match on the same taping, then flying to Mexico to wrestle in the CMLL Grand Prix before flying back to Europe to work All In. A fine main event, but the crowd did feel tired by this point.

Yuta and Darius started, with Dante tagging in and double-teaming Yuta with his brother. PAC tagged in to a hero’s response, matching speed with Dante until he got caught with a headscissors and a dropkick. Castagnoli and Rush tagged in, with Rush trying to catch Castagnoli in the Giant Swing and catching an uppercut for his troubles. Top Flight helped Rush triple-team Castagnoli as we went to a commercial.

Yuta dropped a knee on Darius as we came back from the break. Darius came back with a DDT/Death Drop combination on PAC & Yuta and fought through Castagnoli to get the tag to his brother. Dante ran wild, with Rush assisting with a moonsault off of the apron to Yuta. Rush tagged in and hit a pair of topes to PAC that almost destroyed the announce table. PAC and Rush traded strikes until Rush hit a Falcon Arrow for a nearfall.

We got a move train ending with Dante hitting a dive to Castagnoli. Rush hit a stunner to PAC, but PAC came back with a snap German suplex, but the Martins cut him off. Darius hit a second rope Stunner, with Rush and Dante following with frog splashes for nearfalls. Another dive train ended with Castagnoli drilling Rush with an uppercut. Castagnoli snatched Rush into the Giant Swing before Yuta hit the low dropkick to cut him down. PAC hit the Black Arrow to score the win and punch his ticket to Wembley Stadium.

Christian Cage & Mother Wayne made their entrance. Cage heeled on the crowd before calling himself the godfather of ladder matches. He told them to have eyes in the back of their heads, leading to Killswitch and Nick Wayne hitting them all with chairs. Christian went for the Con-Chair-To on PAC before the Bang Bang Gang came out and pulled tabled from under the ring. The House of Black arrived with a ladder on the stage. All the teams brawled as the show went off the air. I’ll note that my TNT feed went silent after the Bang Bang Gang came out, but I think that was just on my end.

Bryan Danielson: Wheeler Yuta ‘has so much upside,’ he’s an incredible human

Bryan Danielson believes the sky is the limit for his Blackpool Combat Club protege Wheeler Yuta.

“Wheeler has so much upside,” Danielson told Bleacher Report in an interview published on Thursday. “He’s an incredible human being and that’s the part I really look at with people. If you were to look at me when I was 27, I had a lot of holes in my game.”

Danielson, Yuta, Claudio Castagnoli, and Jon Moxley make up the Blackpool Combat Club in AEW. This Sunday in London will be a big day for the group. At All In, Danielson is challenging Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship. The match has a title vs. career stipulation where Danielson will retire if he loses.

The All In card also includes a London Ladders match for the AEW Trios Championship that Yuta, Castagnoli & PAC have the chance to qualify for. Moxley is currently away from AEW programming after being given some time off.

In the Bleacher Report interview, Danielson said social media criticism makes it hard for younger wrestlers today, but Yuta is doing a great job and having fantastic matches.

“It’s hard to be a TV wrestler now in your 20s because everybody expects so much of you. And then you have social media to criticize anything that you do. If social media was around when I was 26 and they were able to see everything, every promo that I did, I might have to stick my head in the sand,” he said.

“I have a deep empathy for them being criticized so much at this stage. I think Wheeler, from an in-ring standpoint and from a promo standpoint, he’s getting better all the time. He did a match with Rocky Romero on Rampage that was just fantastic. I just think he’s doing a great job.”

Yuta is a three-time ROH Pure Champion. He dropped the title to Lee Moriarty at ROH Death Before Dishonor this July.

Swerve Strickland vs. Wheeler Yuta, Britt Baker in-person return set for next AEW Dynamite

After Bryan Danielson was successful in defeating Jeff Jarrett in the main event of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Swerve Strickland said he wanted his own tune-up for next Wednesday ahead of their title vs. career clash at All In.

After Danielson’s win, the AEW World Champion came out unannounced to give the impending challenger his props and then offer up a challenge to Danielson’s Blackpool Combat Club teammate Wheeler Yuta who was standing next to him.

Strickland said he wants Danielson at ringside as well so he can see why he is the most dangerous man in AEW.

After making her on-screen return on Wednesday following a suspension, Britt Baker promised Mercedes Mone she will be in Norfolk, Virginia, and has seven days to figure out how she will get her hands on her.

The other announcement was that AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada and no. 1 contender Claudio Castagnoli will come face-to-face. Castagnoli won a three-way on Collision to earn a shot at Okada with the date yet to be announced.

Here’s the current lineup for Norfolk:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland vs. Wheeler Yuta in a non-title match
  • Britt Baker appearance
  • Claudio Castagnoli and Kazuchika Okada face-to-face

Ring of Honor TV live results: Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs defend the Six-Man titles

This week’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub emanates from the eSports Arena in Arlington, Texas, and is the follow-up to last Friday’s buzzworthy Death Before Dishonor streaming special.

After their emotional title win at Saturday’s AEW Battle of the Belts XI, new ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs will defend for the first time ever as they face the Iron Savages & Jacked Jameson.

After his crushing title defeat to Lee Moriarty last Friday, former ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta will take on Anthony Henry.

Fresh off his win on Wednesday in a big trios match, The Beast Mortos will look to continue his momentum against AR Fox; Rocky Romero will battle Brian Cage; and the returning Fuego Del Sol goes one-on-one with Jacoby Watts.

Robyn Renegade will work in singles action against Maya World.

Top Flight will be in tag team action while the Premier Athletes take on the Supastarz.

**********

After a quick Paul Wight-Narrated recap of Death Before Dishonor, ROH on Honorclub began what felt like a new era! They kicked it off in big style too with a championship match!

ROH World Six-Man Champions Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs (Ross & Marshall) defeated Jacked Jameson & The Iron Savages (Bronson & Boulder)

Those belts look good on Rhodes and the Von Erich’s shoulders, but are they enough to get them past the gates of Titty City? The Savages and Jameson aimed to take those newly won ROH Six-Man straps from the fighting champions!

The Savages and Jameson came to the ring with their usual brand of trash talk. Sauce, Hoss, and Titty City were all named check. The Champions arrived to much more fanfare, the crowd really loving seeing Rhodes with a title for the first time in a decade.

The Savages definitely had the beef advantage, with the Von Erichs and Rhodes giving up significant size to their opponents. Ross and Marshall were able to get so offence in on Boulder with a great double team in the corner. Ross also managed a really nice looking slingblade on Boulder for a two count. Rhodes got a big cheer as he tagged in to take on Bronson. The veteran hadn’t lost a step and caused a miscommunication that saw Boulder flatten his partner with a big splash.

Rhodes hit a classic powerslam on Bronson followed by a hot tag to Marshall. Marshall cleaned house, dropping Jameson on his head. Boulder tried to interfere but Rhodes caught him with a Canadian destroyer before he could to much damage. Rhodes set Jameson up for a shattered dreams and Marshall finished him off with a Claw Slam to retain the titles.

-Mark Briscoe cut a promo with his baby (that’s with the baby, not on the baby) congratulating Roderic Strong on their match at Death Before Dishonor. It was a hell of a match, but Briscoe is still the champion and that’s what matters.

Top Flight (Duante and Darius) w. Leila Grey defeated Ace of Space Academy (LSG and GKM)

This match served to (re)introduce us to Leila Grey as Top Flight’s new ring valet. LSG and MSG weren’t really much of a challenge for Top Flight. Duante took to the sky early and nearly pinned GKM while Darious flew over the top rope to crush LSG.

It wasn’t even a finisher that ended the squash, with Top Flight coming out on top. This does extend their winning streak in ROH, so they may be headed towards a Tag title shot in the future.

-Next, The Infantry cut a promo wondering why they aren’t getting the opportunities that other teams are getting. Stewardess Leila Grey was brought up and Bravo was mad that she chose them and not the Infantry as a group to join. They put ROH on notice and that was that.

Robyn Renegade defeated Maya World

Both Renegade a World have recently enjoyed some ring time in ROH, taking on some of the heavy hitters of the Women’s Division. Hopefully the winner of this match would get a little closer to that upper echelon and maybe even a title shot.

Right away, Renegade was in control. She faked out the shorter World, but the momentum flipped and it was World laying out the heavy kicks and strikes. Renegade got her footing back on the outside and slammed World onto the floor, tossing her back in for some more punishment.

Renegade, sensing that she may have taken World too lightly, nailed a Pump Handle Slam with gusto and got the 1,2,3.

-Anthony Henry was being interviewed backstage and suddenly, his cousin, Beef, interrupted. Beef was there to support his second cousin by marriage and said he’d be in his corner in his match tonight. Henry seemed irritated but played along as the next match began.

The Beast Mortos defeated AR Fox

Here’s what Mortos had been up to in just the last week:

  • Competed in the Royal Rampage match on AEW Rampage last Friday.
  • Spent 20 minutes throwing  Komander at the ground at Death Before Dishonor.
  • Fought Hologram on AEW Collision.
  • Took on The Conglomeration last night  on AEW Dynamite!

So, he’s been busy. Fox was looking to avenge a loss to Mortos back in April, but it remained unclear if Mortos’ packed schedule would allow him to do that, or even have any effect on the Beast whatsoever.

Spoiler: It didn’t.

While Fox did get some interesting pinning combinations in, Mortos just wasn’t going down. He popped right up after everything Fox threw at him, inside and outside the ring. There was a bright spot for Fox, when he leapt through the ring ropes at a charging Mortos and knocked him into the barricade.

In the end a series of backbreakers and slams put Fox down for good and Mortos stood tall.

-the MxM Collection joined us backstage and reminded us that they will always come out on top.

Wheeler Yuta defeated Anthony Henry

At Death Before Dishonor, The Blackpool Combat Club’s Yuta lost the ROH Pure Title to Lee Moriarty in a fantastic match. This bout with Henry would hopefully put Yuta on the road to reclaiming that title.

The match deteriorated into a chop-fest on the outside, with Yuta taking out his frustration on Henry’s chest. Yuta also ground Henry’s head right into the steel joist of the ring post. The two continued, trading moves and blows in a fantastic back and forth match.

In the end though, Yuta picked up the win, showing that he’s more than just a Pure wrestler.

-The man that took the title from Yuta, Lee Moriarty cut a promo next, letting ROH as a whole know that #Tigastyle is here to stay!

The Premier Athletes (Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese) defeated Supastarz (Nikki Eight & Tommy Mars)

This match had neither much of a point, or much of an interesting outcome. I suppose the intention was to give the Premier Athletes a win, but it was such a one sided affair that it wasn’t interesting to watch. Something of a miss on a pretty good night.

-To make matters weirder, Anthony Henry was joined backstage by Beef again to discuss how their family will get wins all over the place. It might be part of the effort Tony Khan seems to be making to jazz up the show, but I don’t know if this is the way to go.

Fuego Del Sol defeated Jacoby Watts w/ Nick Comoroto

When last we saw Watts, he was tagging with Nick Comoroto, kind of. Watts was doing really well at letting Comoroto do all the work, while he sucked up the accolades. He managed to win his last singles match, but would the fight against Del Sol be a different affair?

Watts began the match by running down Del Sol on the mic. Sol responded with a dropkick. From there it was a great bunch of heeling done by Watts. He oversold everything and snuck around the ring trying to get in cheap hits. Sol was able to keep up with him easily though, flying around the ring with springboard moonsaults and stomps, leading to a quick pin and a surprising win.

Even though he didn’t get involved, the real winner here was Comoroto’s shirt.

-The Minions joined us backstage in a taped post-Death Before Dishonor promo. ROH Women’s World Champion Athena was showering Lexy Nair with love since she helped her retain her title. This made now-former Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz jealous and a rift began to appear…

Brian Cage defeated Rocky Romero

Brian Cage has been machining all over ROH recently, taking part in a 6-person match that was more of an assault than a wrestling contest. At Death Before Dishonor, he can within a hair of winning the ROH TV Title in a six-man elimination match. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get the pin and that made him mad. Like, real mad. This this match against Romero had the potential to give Cage a chance to blow off some steam, but what’s next for him remaind a mystery.

It was almost a comical mismatch of size, with the beefy Cage dwarfing Romero and throwing him around the ring. Romero had brief flashes of offense, incuding a great dropkick from the ring apron (the ahrdest part of the ring) that sent Cage flying into the barricade. An avalanche hurricanrana got a close 2.5 count on Cage. Romero even resorted to biting at one point before a superplex on his massive opponent.

It almost looked like Romero’s high-flying style would get the jump on Cage, but Cage hit a massive driver and finally got a pin.

-The Undisputed Kingdom, the current ROH Tag Champs, were interviewed back stage. Matt Taven and Mike Bennett let us know that they are closing in on one full year as ROH Tag Champions. Suddenly, The Infantry appeared. They brought up losing to the Kingdom in April, but since then, they have beated teams like FTR and The House of Black. They challenged the Kindgom to a match next week, which was gladly accepted by the Champs.

-To cap off the evening, Dustin Rhodes came down to the ring to address the Texan ROH crowd. Rhodes mentioned that it’s been a long time since he’s had a title around his waist (almost 10 years). “You deserve it” chants broke out in the arena, and in my living room.

Rhodes thanked the crowd for sending him their energy for the last 36 years. Rhodes talked up the Von Erichs, discussing how their families were part of wrestling history and it was an honor to be champions with Marshall and Ross. Rhodes spoke of his father, Dusty, and how his encouragement has kept him moving all these years.

Rhodes then announced that he wants more. At that moment, he was interrupted by The Dark Order’s Evil Uno. Uno stomped to the ring and screamed that they were robbed in their eliminator match against Rhodes and the Von Erichs last week.

Uno said that he doesn’t give a damn about Rhodes’ or the Von Erich’s family name. He’s been in ROH every week working his ass off. Uno said that Rhodes should step aside and let people like the Dark Order represent ROH as 6-man Champions. Uno said they had one more thing for Rhodes, and immediately Silver and Reynolds arrived to jump him.

However, a surprise Sammy Guevara arrived to even the odds! Guevara cleared the ring of the Dark Order and helped Rhodes to his feet. Rhodes cautiously shook his hand and the two embraced as the show came to a close.

This episode definitely felt different, with a lot more things happening and stories developing. Maybe Tony Khan is paying more attention to ROH after all.

Lee Moriarty, Red Velvet become new champions at ROH Death Before Dishonor

For the first time in both of their AEW & Ring of Honor runs, Lee Moriarty and Red Velvet can each call themselves ROH champions after Friday’s Death Before Dishonor.

Moriarty won the Pure title after pinning Wheeler Yuta while using the ropes which was legal due to both men using up their allotted rope breaks under Pure rules. After the match, Yuta showed Moriarty respect by handing him the title himself.

Moriarty earned the shot by taking Yuta to a ten-minute draw in a June Proving Ground match. They are now 1-1-1 against each other in ROH after Yuta defeated Moriarty in a November 2023 bout.

The win ends the 245-day third Pure title reign for Yuta which was elongated due to him being out of action for a considerable amount of time due to a concussion. He defended the title three times after winning it in November, but this was his first defense since January.

Then in the next match, Velvet took out inaugural ROH Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz to become the second-ever titleholder.

The closing sequence came when Starkz pulled out an old trick and pretended to be injured as she had against Queen Aminata in the TV title finals. She then sprung up and hit Velvet with an enziguri and began mugging to the crowd. Velvet then faked her own injury which threw Starkz off, allowing Velvet to hit Mama’s Recipe to get the victory.

Velvet is now 3-0 against Starkz in both AEW and ROH action and is on a four-match win streak. Starkz never defended the title after winning it at April’s Supercard of Honor.

Wheeler Yuta vs. Lee Moriarty Pure title match official for ROH Death Before Dishonor

The ROH Pure title will be on the line this Friday.

Tony Khan announced on X that Wheeler Yuta will defend the title against Lee Moriarty on Friday’s event that will stream live on ROH Honor Club.

“After he survived the Proving Ground + following Thursday’s BCC vs STP tag on ROH TV Moriarty will challenge Yuta for the Pure Title Friday at Death Before Dishonor!,” Khan wrote.

Moriarty went to a time limit draw with Yuta in a Proving Ground match on the July 4 episode of Ring of Honor. Friday’s title match will be the first title match for Yuta since January, as he was out of action due to concussion issues. He returned to in-ring action last month and has since teamed with his Blackpool Combat Club partners.

ROH Death Before Dishonor 2024 announced lineup —

  • ROH World Championship: Mark Briscoe defends against Roderick Strong
  • ROH Women’s World Champion Athena defends against Queen Aminata
  • ROH Women’s World TV Champion Billie Starkz defends against Red Velvet
  • ROH Pure Championship: Wheeler Yuta defends against Lee Moriarty
  • Texas death match: Leyla Hirsch vs. Diamante

Ring of Honor TV live results: Wheeler Yuta vs. Lee Moriarty

Ring of Honor returns to HonorClub tonight as the brand is building to this month’s Death Before Dishonor. Multiple ROH champions will be on tonight’s episode, possibly to build some title matches for the upcoming streaming special.

As it’s the 4th of July holiday in the U.S., The Infantry (Shawn Dean, Carlie Bravo & Trish Adora) will host tonight’s episode.

ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta will wrestle his first match in the promotion since Final Battle 2023 as he faces Lee Moriarty in a Proving Ground match.

ROH Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Kingdom (Mike Bennett & Matt Taven) will also be in action as they take on Metalik & Komander in a Proving Ground match.

Additionally, ROH Women’s World Champion Athena and ROH Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz will be heard from tonight.

**********

With three big time Proving Ground Matches driving this week’s holiday ROH card, the show was packed from pillar to post! Kicking things off was The Infantry with a Fourth of July message for everyone! They declared themselves Official Hosts for the Independence Day edition of ROH TV!

Juice Robinson & The Gunn Club (Austin and Colton Gunn) defeated The Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, John Silver)

This Trios Proving Ground match gave the Dark Order a chance to fight for a future shot at the ROH Trios Championships, currently held by Bullet Club Gold. All the Order had to do was last 10 minutes or pin one of their opponents.

Fun Fact: The Unified ROH/AEW Trios Titles are the only ones defended on both AEW and ROH shows, so the Champions must pull double duty.

Using a modified Freebird Rule, Robinson took the place of Jay White, who was “out with injury.” Uno kicked things off against Austin and the crowd was hot. Austin found himself isolated early, but Robinson and Colton broke things up, keeping the match on an even keel.

Robinson at one point climbed into the ring and pretended to be a dog and pee on Uno (no, really), causing an enraged Reynolds to chase him around the ring. That left Reynolds open to an attack by Colton though, to the frustration of Uno and Silver.

Time began getting short as Robinson and Reynolds both leapt for hot tags, pitting Uno against both Gunns. He hit relentless splashes into the corner(s), and when Robinson tried to help, all three Bullet Clubbers were set up for a big triple dropkick.

Eventually, the Gunns hit a 3:10 to Yuma on an unsuspecting Reynolds and managed to put an end to the Proving Ground match and get the win for their team.

-The Infantry joined us for a US History lesson, marking the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They then ran down the card, mentioning that they would like to punch the Kingdom in the face with some Iron Gauntlets that they had for… some reason. They promised to be back, and the show moved into a MEM (Minion Empowerment Meeting)!

-ROH Women’s Champion Athena, ROH Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz, Lexy Nair and their Minion Security appeared back stage. Before anything could happen though, Red Velvet and Queen Aminata joined the party. Velvet said that she’s been awarded a shot at Starkz’ TV Title at Death Before Dishonor! To make matters worse for the Minions, Aminata will be challenging for the ROH Women’s World Title at the same show, no matter if Athena is cleared to wrestle or not! Athena stomped off to find Tony Khan and find out what is going on!

-The Infantry then came back, but this time under the backdrop of the US Capitol. They ran down some of the monuments and attractions in Washington, declaring it America’s HonorClub!

ROH Tag Team Champions Matt Taven and Mike Bennett defeated Metalik and Komander in a Proving Ground match

Taven and Bennett have been on top of the ROH tag division for quite some time now. Last week, they lamented the lack of competition and literally prayed to “booker-man” Tony Khan for someone to fight on their level. Khan’s response can seconds later in the form of Metalik and Komander. If they could pin or outlast the Champions to a 10-minute Draw, they would get a guaranteed title shot in the future.

Taven and Komander started things off and it was apparent that Taven was little confused by the luchadore style. He tried to utilize his height advantage though but the speed of Komander was hard to contain. A missed double team led to a hot tag to Metalik and he managed to put Taven down and take Bennett on one-on-one.

Metalik and Komander held control through the first half of the match, landing big splashes and dives through the ropes, keeping the champions on their heels, both in and out of the ring. A miscommunication though left Metalik on his own against a double team from The Kingdom at the halfway mark of the match.

Bennett picked up the urgency, looking to put away Metalik as fast as he could to avoid time running out. The luchadore wasn’t going down easily though, hitting a sunset bomb off the top rope. Komander followed it up with a spinning DDT on Taven.

As the time limit crept closer to expiration, Bennett and Taven resorted to a little bit of good ol’ fashioned heeling and hit a bit double team on Metalik after taking out Komander. This got them the pin and the win.

-Continuing their tour of American historical locations, The Infantry joined us from Mount Rushmore. They talked about the Presidents on the Mount and suggested that they add themselves to Rushmore, Twice. They reminded us all that Death Before Dishonor is on it’s way and signed off to go “watch some Will Smith movies.”

ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta vs. Lee Moriarty went to a Time Limit Draw in a Proving Ground match

As with all Proving Ground matches, if the challenger (Moriarty) can pin or wrestle the Champion (Yuta) to a 10-minute draw, then Moriarty would get a shot at the ROH Pure Title at a later date.

Yuta, a member of the Blackpool Combat Club, matched up with Moriarty in size and speed really well. Unlike the previous two Proving Ground matches, a countdown clock was shown for this match which greatly added to the tension. Being able to see how little time was left really added an exciting aspect to the match.

At 7:43 Moriarty literally kicked Yuta out of mid-air, taking a bit of an upper hand in the match. Borrowing from his BCC teammate, Yuta tried a series of European uppercuts, but Moriarty was able to defend against them and lock in an arm-based submission move. Yuta reversed it though and the two took a breath.

Yuta, with about 5 minutes left managed to reverse a straightjacket hold, forcing Moriarty to use a rope break. As time ticked down, Yuta tossed Moriarty to the outside and dove through the ropes after him. Tossing him back in the ring, Yuta executed a series of suplexes on Moriarty.

With 90 seconds remaining, the match stayed pretty even. Yuta tried to pick up the pace, and caught Moriarty in an attempted pile driver. The two exchanged pinning attempts as the clock ticked down to less than a minute.

Fifteen Seconds were left as the two resorted to simple brawling, exchanging shots as time ran out relegating the match to a draw. However, Moriarty lasted the 10 minutes, so he gets a guaranteed shot at Yuta’s ROH Pure championship!

Wheeler Yuta medically cleared, return match set for AEW Dynamite

Wheeler Yuta’s return match is set for AEW Dynamite.

Tony Khan announced on Tuesday that Yuta had been cleared. In his first match since January, he will team with the rest of the Blackpool Combat Club to take on the CMLL team of Volador Jr., Magnus, Rugido, and Esfinge.
