WWE SmackDown spoilers: New champion crowned

Here are spoilers for next week’s SmackDown, taped after tonight’s live show in New Orleans. WWE will be traveling to Saudi Arabia next Friday ahead of their Elimination Chamber event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on February 19 at the Jeddah Super Dome.

  • The face-to-face between Roman Reigns and Goldberg opened the show. No fighting took place as the two exchanged words.
  • Ricochet defeated Sheamus
  • Sami Zayn defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. WWE announced the title change on social media during the tapings.
  • Ivar defeated Jimmy Uso
  • There was a promo segment with Drew McIntyre, Madcap Moss, and Happy Corbin.
  • There were also extended promos for the Elimination Chamber match and the Universal title match between Roman Reigns and Goldberg.
  • The show ended with a contract signing between the teams of Ronda Rousey & Naomi and Charlotte Flair & Sonya Deville. Adam Pearce hosted the signing. The teams exchanged words until Rousey threw the SmackDown Women’s title at Flair. The four ended up in a brawl, with Rousey slamming Flair’s face into the table and Naomi kicking Deville in the head. The show ended with Rousey & Naomi flipping the table on Flair and Deville, eventually clearing the ring.

Zayn’s win tonight marks his third run with the championship. He had won a 12 Days of Christmas 12-man battle royal to become the number one contender on the episode of WWE SmackDown that aired on Christmas Eve.

Nakamura had held the championship for 182 days, defeating Apollo Crews on the August 13, 2021 edition of SmackDown.

Following last night’s SmackDown at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, WWE taped next week’s Christmas Eve edition of the show.

SmackDown will air on Fox in its normal time slot next Friday. Here’s what was taped for the episode:

– Sami Zayn won the “12 Days of Christmas” gauntlet match to become the number one contender to Shinsuke Nakamura’s Intercontinental title

Angel, Mansoor, Erik, Shanky, Ivar, Sheamus, Drew Gulak, Cesaro, Ricochet, Humberto, and Jinder Mahal were the other participants in the match. Zayn defeated Ricochet at the end of the match to get the win.

Zayn will challenge for the Intercontinental title at WWE Day 1.

– Charlotte Flair defeated Toni Storm to retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Charlotte reversed a pin by Storm to get the win and retain her title.

– Drew McIntyre & The New Day (Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston) defeated Madcap Moss & SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight

WWE SmackDown spoilers: Three title matches on Christmas Day

This Friday’s Christmas Day edition of SmackDown was taped at the WWE ThunderDome on Tuesday night.

Like live WWE television episodes, the tapings included a virtual crowd on the screens of the ThunderDome. Three title matches were taped for Friday’s show, which will air on Fox at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Here are the results:

– Universal Champion Roman Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in a steel cage match to retain his title

From outside of the ring, Jey Uso handcuffed Owens to the cage near the finish. Reigns then exited the cage to retain the Universal Championship.

– Women’s Tag Team Champions Asuka & Charlotte Flair defeated Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair and Bayley & Carmella in a triple threat elimination match to retain their titles

There was a pre-match segment in the ring to set this match up.

This was Asuka & Charlotte’s first title defense after defeating Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax to become Women’s Tag Team Champions at TLC. Bayley & Carmella were the first team eliminated.

– There was a backstage segment with The Street Profits. They gave Sami Zayn an “I Was Intercontinental Champion” T-shirt, mocking his new “I’m the Intercontinental Champion” shirt.

– Daniel Bryan defeated Jey Uso

– Big E defeated Sami Zayn in a lumberjack match to win the Intercontinental Championship

Big E celebrated with some of the lumberjacks to close the show.

WWE SmackDown spoilers from Manchester, England

Ahead of the show airing on FOX, tonight’s SmackDown was taped at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Next Monday’s Raw is also being taped at the arena today.

– King Corbin started the show by cutting a promo on Roman Reigns.

– The New Day were interviewed backstage ahead of challenging for The Revival’s SmackDown Tag Team titles.

– The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) defeated The Revival to win the SmackDown Tag Team titles

– Sami Zayn invited Daniel Bryan to ringside for Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro’s match against Ali & Shorty G

– NXT UK’s Imperium stable appeared and attacked Heavy Machinery in the ring. Members of the SmackDown roster came out to chase Imperium off.

– Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro defeated Ali & Shorty G

Zayn helped Nakamura & Ali get the win. Bryan watched the match from the ramp but didn’t accept an invitation to join Zayn, Nakamura, and Cesaro in the ring after.

– Sasha Banks defeated Nikki Cross

Banks had a remixed version of her theme music. Bayley attacked Cross after, but Shayna Baszler then appeared and laid Bayley out.

– Dana Brooke & Carmella defeated Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville

This was a qualifying match to decide who would join SmackDown’s Survivor Series team.

– King Corbin defeated Roman Reigns

Corbin won with help from Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

– Tyson Fury’s appearance was the main event segment of the tapings. After their match at Crown Jewel, Fury and Braun Strowman joined forces here and laid out The B-Team.

WWE SmackDown & 205 Live TV taping spoilers from London

WWE was back at the O2 Arena in London, England today to tape tonight’s episodes of SmackDown and 205 Live.

SmackDown spoilers —

– Roman Reigns started off SmackDown and brought out The Miz, then Shane McMahon and Elias came out and said Miz is banned tonight.

Shane, Elias, Daniel Bryan, and Rowan attacked Reigns and Miz. The Usos made the save.

– In a backstage segment, Shane announced a four-on-three handicap match for later and said his steel cage match against Miz at Money in the Bank would be off if Miz gets involved in the handicap match.

– Andrade defeated Finn Balor, Ali, and Randy Orton in a fatal four-way match

Ricochet appeared after the match and stopped Andrade from unhooking the briefcase above the ring. Ricochet then got the briefcase himself.

– Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods took part in a backstage segment. Kingston asked Woods to let him go on the KO Show alone later.

– Charlotte Flair cut an in-ring promo and said her rivalry with Becky Lynch will culminate with Charlotte winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship on Sunday.

– Pre-taped videos for Aleister Black and Lacey Evans aired.

– Shane McMahon, Elias, Daniel Bryan & Rowan defeated Roman Reigns & The Usos

The heels won after Shane hit a Coast to Coast. Miz then stopped the heels from beating down the faces.

– Paige and Ember Moon cut backstage promos.

– Asuka & Kairi Sane defeated Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville

Paige announced that Asuka & Sane are now known as the Kabuki Warriors. The IIconics were on commentary for this match.

– Lars Sullivan appeared.

– Kevin Owens cut a backstage promo and was cut off by Kingston coming out to the ring. Owens eventually came out, fought with Kingston, and Sami Zayn appeared and helped Owens. Woods then evened the odds for Kingston.

Owens and Zayn had the advantage, but the segment ended with Kingston standing tall.

205 Live spoilers —

– Humberto Carrillo defeated Jack Gallagher, Mark Andrews, and James Drake in a fatal four-way match

Carrillo pinned Gallagher to get the win.

– WWE Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese defeated Ligero in a non-title match

Notable spoiler from WWE SmackDown tapings

A title change will be airing on the Christmas Day edition of SmackDown.

Next week’s episode was taped at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California after tonight’s SmackDown. In the main event of the tapings for next week, Rusev defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to win the United States Championship.

Nakamura had been United States Champion since winning the title from Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules this July. With his win, Rusev has now held the US title three times in his career.

On this week’s SmackDown, Rusev did a backstage interview and a promo from Nakamura aired. Rusev promised to win the title on the greatest day of them all — Rusev Day. Nakamura mocked clips of Rusev from Total Divas.

In addition to next week’s episodes not being live, the New Year’s Eve episode of Raw will be taped on Friday, December 28 and the New Year’s Day edition of SmackDown will be taped on Saturday, December 29.

WWE SmackDown TV taping spoilers: United States title match

Here are next week’s SmackDown spoilers from Fresno, California. WWE is taping tonight as they’re now off the road until 12/26.

– Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows and The Usos defeated Sanity and The Bar

The New Day were on commentary wearing Santa outfits during the bout. Anderson and Gallows got the win after hitting the Magic Killer on Cesaro.

R-Truth and Carmella came out. Truth was dressed up like Santa Claus. They are interrupted by Daniel Bryan, who calls the crowd “fickle” for buying into the comedy act and calls Truth’s career a joke. This eventually led to a dance break where Bryan jumped Truth before it could conclude.

– Mustafa Ali defeated Andrade Cien Almas

Ali defeated Almas after hitting the 054.

Shane McMahon was on Miz TV. After asking the WWE Universe (which was said to have gotten a mixed reaction), it appears that they are now a tag team.

– Jeff Hardy defeated Samoa Joe by count out

The finish had Joe escape the Whisper in the Wind by rolling out to the floor. Hardy then attacked him on the outside which eventually led to the cout out. Hardy went for a twist of fate on the announce table after the match but Joe countered with the coquina clutch and choked him out.

– Rusev defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to win the WWE United States title

Rusev won the title after hitting the machka kick. He and Lana celebrated in the ring to close out the show.

WWE SmackDown TV taping spoilers from Manchester, England

WWE returned to the Manchester Arena for the second straight day as this week’s SmackDown was taped in England.

– With the WWE World Cup trophy in the ring, a segment with Paige and Shane McMahon began the tapings. Shane acted like a face but was booed by the crowd. He said the World Cup belongs to SmackDown as a brand.

Daniel Bryan and The Miz were named co-captains of SmackDown’s Survivor Series men’s team. Bryan and Miz agreed that Shane will also be on the team.

Raw Tag Team Champions AOP vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Sheamus in a non-title match was confirmed for Survivor Series.

Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas was announced for later in this episode, along with The New Day vs. The Usos. New Day vs. Usos will determine who captains a team of tag teams from SmackDown at Survivor Series.

– The Usos defeated The New Day to become captains for the Raw tag teams vs. SmackDown tag teams match at Survivor Series

New Day will also be on SmackDown’s team for the match.

– Bryan wanted Mysterio to be on SmackDown’s men’s team at Survivor Series. Miz said Mysterio can be added if he impresses against Almas.

– Becky Lynch cut a promo responding to Ronda Rousey’s comments from Raw. Lynch issued a challenge, which was answered by Nikki Cross. Cross came out with the rest of SAnitY (Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, and Killian Dain).

– SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defeated Nikki Cross in a non-title match

Lynch won with the Dis-Arm-Her.

– Bryan selected Jeff Hardy and Miz selected Samoa Joe to face off in the main event. The winner will be the final member of SmackDown’s men’s team.

– Shinsuke Nakamura cut a promo on the video screen to promote his match against Seth Rollins at Survivor Series.

– Rey Mysterio defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas

Mysterio was confirmed for SmackDown’s Survivor Series men’s team. Randy Orton gave Mysterio an RKO after the match.

– AJ Styles cut a promo on the video screen about his Survivor Series match against Brock Lesnar.

– Paige announced Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Carmella, Naomi, and Sonya Deville as SmackDown’s Survivor Series women’s team. Charlotte didn’t come out for the segment. Mandy Rose wanted to know why they got chosen instead of her, which led to a brawl.

– Samoa Joe defeated Jeff Hardy for the final spot on SmackDown’s Survivor Series men’s team

Joe joins Bryan, Miz, Shane, and Mysterio on the team. He choked out Hardy to get the win.

Bryan brawled with Joe after, Miz pulled Bryan off, and Bryan punched Miz. Shane McMahon tried to calm everyone down, but Bryan gave him a hip toss. The show ended by teasing dissension between SmackDown’s men’s team.

WWE SmackDown taping spoilers: MITB qualifiers, Styles-Nakamura

WWE returned to the O2 Arena for the second straight day as SmackDown was taped in London tonight.

– Daniel Bryan opened the show by doing an in-ring interview with Renee Young. That led to Big Cass coming out and insulting Bryan, but Bryan beat him down, applied a submission, and wouldn’t let go until after referees and other officials came out.

– The New Day defeated Cesaro & Sheamus in a Money in the Bank qualifying match

Big E hit a spear on Sheamus to the outside and Woods pinned Cesaro with an elbow drop. One of the New Day members will be added to the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

– A Bludgeon Brothers video aired.

– Paige was confronted by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville backstage. Becky Lynch vs. Rose vs. Deville in a Money in the Bank qualifying match was announced for later in the show.

– AJ Styles cut a promo where he promised to beat Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event.

– Andrade “Cien” Almas (w/ Zelina Vega) defeated an enhancement wrestler

Vega cut a heel promo hyping up Almas following the match.

– In a backstage segment with Rusev, Aiden English, and Lana, it was revealed that Lana will be in a Money in the Bank qualifier against Billie Kay next week.

– Carmella came out for her “Royal ‘Mellabration.” It resulted in Paige announcing Carmella vs. Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank. Carmella bailed after Asuka entered.

– Shinsuke Nakamura did a promo, also promising to win in the main event.

– Becky Lynch defeated Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in a Money in the Bank qualifying match

Lynch submitted Rose with an armbar.

– Big Cass vs. Samoa Joe in a Money in the Bank qualifier is set for next week. Joe cut a promo on Cass, and The IIconic’s did a promo about Kay’s qualifying match with Lana.

– Ronda Rousey will be wrestling at Raw’s house show in London on August 29th.

– Shinsuke Nakamura defeated WWE Champion AJ Styles in a non-title match (winner picks the stipulation for their title match at Money in the Bank)

This was said to be very good. Nakamura won with the Kinshasa after a distraction where he faked a low blow.

WWE SmackDown TV taping spoilers: Two title matches

WWE was at the Manchester Arena for the second straight day as the venue hosted tonight’s SmackDown tapings, with AJ Styles challenging for Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship and The Usos defending their tag titles against Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable. Here are spoilers from the show:

– Shane McMahon opened the episode and ran down the card for the night. He announced that Daniel Bryan would be back next week, then The New Day came down to the ring. They talked about their appearance at Raw last night, which brought out Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and led to Zayn vs. Kofi Kingston being made.

– Kofi Kingston defeated Sami Zayn

– Jinder Mahal did an interview saying he’s going to defeat AJ Styles tonight and Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.

– Another Bludgeon Brothers vignette aired.

– Randy Orton defeated Rusev

Orton pinned him after hitting an RKO. Rusev would have joined SmackDown’s Survivor Series team if he won.

– Becky Lynch defeated James Ellsworth

Charlotte Flair, Naomi, Carmella, Lana, and Tamina were all out for this. Lynch and Ellsworth actually had a match, though there was obviously comedy. Carmella kicked Ellsworth after he lost.

– It was announced that Natalya would defend her title against Charlotte next week.

– Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable defeated SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos by countout

With the countout finish, the titles didn’t change hands here.

– Baron Corbin will defend his United States title against Sin Cara next week, plus The New Day will face Owens & Zayn.

– AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to win the WWE Championship

Styles got a huge reaction for winning. There was a near fall where Mahal caught Styles with the Khallas, but Styles got his foot on the ropes. Styles won clean with the Phenomenal Forearm.

WWE SmackDown TV taping spoilers: Six-man action headlines

Here are quick results from today’s SmackDown tapings at the O2 Arena in London:

– Randy Orton opened the show with a promo. A talking segment set up Orton, AJ Styles & Sami Zayn vs. Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin for the main event. Everyone in the match got involved in the segment.

– Natalya defeated Becky Lynch

Natalya won with a roll-up. Naomi, Charlotte Flair, Carmella, James Ellsworth, and Tamina were all at ringside. They set up a six-woman tag team match for Backlash, where it will be The Welcoming Committee (Natalya, Carmella & Tamina) vs. Naomi, Charlotte & Lynch.

– There was another “Fashion Files” segment.

– Erick Rowan defeated Luke Harper

– Dolph Ziggler and Shinsuke Nakamura had a confrontation. Nakamura wanted to face him in a match tonight, but Ziggler backed down and said he’ll wait for Backlash instead.

– Breezango defeated The Ascension

– Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin defeated Randy Orton, AJ Styles & Sami Zayn

Mahal pinned Orton to win the match.

Spoilers: Cruiserweight title match set for WWE Survivor Series

The fate of the WWE cruiserweight division will be on the line at Survivor Series.

It was announced at today’s SmackDown tapings in Glasgow, Scotland that Brian Kendrick would defend his WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Kalisto at the upcoming co-branded Survivor Series pay-per-view. If Kalisto captures the title, the cruiserweight division will move to SmackDown.

The updated card for Survivor Series on November 20th in Toronto, Canada is:

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg
  • Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler defending against Sami Zayn
  • WWE Cruiserweight Champion Brian Kendrick vs. Kalisto (SmackDown gets the cruiserweight division if Kalisto wins)
