Shane Taylor Promotions are all over this week’s episode of Ring of Honor, but they are starting by defending their ROH World Six Man Titles against The Workhorsemen and second cousin BEEF.

Henry and Bravo kicked off the match with a fast collar and elbow exchange ending with Bravo workign the arm of Henry. Henry flipped it into an armdrag of his own and sent Bravo intot he Workhorsemen’s corner to get a tag from Drake.

Drake flipped over the rope to squash Bravo and then the two started throwing chops. BEEF tagged in and threw hands at Bravo, but Bravo pulled the ref into the line of fire so Dean could pull Beef to the ring apron. Taylor dropped a leg on him for good measure.

Somehow, that made Taylor legal and he threw headbutts at BEEF, sending him into the STP corner for some open handed chops. BEEF tried to fight out of it, but the numbers game overtook him. Taylor started throwing Bravo at BEEF in the corner and Dean tagged in for a bronco buster. Bravo tagged in and he and Dean hit a double neckbreaker on BEEF.

Six Man Tag Team Match: SkyFlight (Dante Martin, Darius Martin & Scorpio Sky) (w/Christopher Daniels & Leila Grey) vst The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) & Matt Menard

Caprice Coleman and Ian Riccaboni debated what team name the Kingdom and Menard should use, completely missing “Magic Kingdom.” Then again, the house of mouse is notoriously letigious, so maybe it was for the best.

Bennett and Darious started things off with Darious getting a facebuster on Bennett before Dante tagged in and went for the cover. Bennett kicked out and Taven tagged in. Dante hit a crazy parkour-style flip off the bottom rope and Darious tagged back in.

Darious threw Taven into the corner, but Taven ducked the charge and Menard tagged in. Darious went off the ropes, but Bennett grabbed the ankle, pulling him out. Dante dove after him and took out Taven and Bennett.

Dairus got a hot tag to Dante and Taven tagged in, taking out both Martin brothers. Taven hit a spinning DDT on Dante and went for a spingboard moonsault, but Dante rolled out of the way. That allowed Darious to hit an around the world DDT.

Dante got a tag to Sky who started clearing the ring. He eneded up with Bennett who he dropkicked. Taven came in and Sky hit a Sky High powerbomb, but Taven kicked out at two. Taven hit s superkick and tagged in Menard. Bennett grabbed Sky in a spiccoli driver and Taven hit him with Just The Tip.

Sky threw Bennett out and caught Menard with a cutter and that was it. Skyflight picked up the victory.

Match Result: SkyFlight defeated The Kingdom & Matt Menard

After the match, respect was show and everyone shook hands.

The Don Callis Family (Hechicero & Lance Archer) (w/Rocky Romero) vs Orion & The OXP

Archer and Hechicero entered individually, with Romero, but no Don Callis. OXP and Orion were already there, so Hechicero played to the crowd to draw things out as much as he could.

The bell rang and Hechicero faced off against OXP. Hechicero wasted no time in destroying the leg of OXP, wrenching and stomping it while he howled in pain. He set OXP up against the rope and whe OXP came off with a leapfrog, Hechicero caught him in a suplex.

Archer tagged in and continued the assualt. He thew a lariat, but Orion got a blind tag. So Archer threw OXP at Orion and flattened them both. Hechicero tagged back in, but OXP actually got a boot in before Hechicero hit a spinning facebuster.

Hechicero put OXP in a surfboard and Archer came off the ropes with a catalpult. Hechicero hit a high knee on Orion, and Archer chokeslammed OXP. Hechicero locked in a swinging cobra clutch and OXP tapped out.

Valkyrie and Windosr traded shots until Windsor tried a suplex. Valkyrie reversed it and Windsor hit her with a dropkick. Sakazaki tagged back in and they hit her with stereo diving clotheslines. Windsor finally got that suplex on Valkyrie and Sakazaki went for a pin, but only got a two count.

Valkyrie got mad and started throwing kicks at Sakazaki, setting her up in the corner for a suplex. Renegade got a blind tag and took out Windsor with a forearm. Sakazaki tried to roll her up, but Renegade started punching her in the face.

Renegade and Valkyrie double teamed Sakazaki in the corner, with Valkyrie getting a high knee in before a pin attempt. Valkyrie set Sakazaki up in her corner and she and Renegade tagged in and out throwing strikes at her. Valkyrie set Sakazaki up in the middle of the ring for an arm bar, but Sakazaki fought out of it and started throwing dropkicks.

Renegade and Windsor got tags and Windsor started throwing lariats, knockingn Renegade to the mat. Windsor tried to lock in a sharpshooter, but Valkyrie interfered. Windsor sent her out of the ring and Renegade attacked. Windsor caught her with a blue thunder bomb, but Valkyrie knocked her over before she could pin.

Windsor went for a pumphandle slam on Renegade, but Renegade caught her with a big boot. The to came off the ropes and collided in a double crossbody. Sakazaki and Valkyrie tagged in and Renegade and Windsor fought on the outside, with Windsor hitting her with a diving cannon ball.

Purrazzo tried to get Adora up on her shoulders, but Adora spun out of it into a bridged german suplex. Adora hoisted Purrazzo up into a suplex/brainbuster combo, but only got a two count. Adora set up Lariat Tubman, but Purrazzo dodged it and caught her in a fujiwara in the middle of the ring.

Purrazzo transitioned into a Venus De Milo, cutting off Adora’s ability to reach the ropes. Adora tapped out at 52:58 and Purrazzo goes on to face Queen Aminata in the semifinals.

Match Result: Deonna Purrazzo defeated Trish Adora

Mixed Tag Team Match: Death Riders (Marina Shafir & Wheeler Yuta) vs Aaron Solo & Angelica Risk

Shafir, Yuta and Yuta’s hair all entered through the crowd and Yuta and Solo kicked things off. Yuta had Solo’s number from the jump, wrenching him over in a wristlock. He sent Solo into the corner, but Solo bounced out and hit an armdrag followed by a dropkick.

Yuta tagged in Shafir which brought in Risk who started talking trash. She shoved Shafir who grabbed her by the neck and thew her, following that with a side slam. Shafir tossed Risk around with some judo throws and locked in a Kimura lock.

Yuta hit a hurricanrana into an armbar, but Solo was able to get to the ropes to break the hold. Solo tagged in Risk who tried to push Shafir, but Shafir got her in a mother’s milk choke hold. Solo tried to break it up, but Yuta intercepted him with a high knee. Risk tapped out and that was that.

Match Result: Death Riders defeated Aaron Solo & Angelica Risk

-Next, an adorable video package showing Bandido bringing his abuela to watch him wrestle for the first time aired. Seriously, how great is Bandido?

Satnam Singh vs Gino Adonis

Adonis is a large man, but still gave up about a foot to Singh. The bell rang, Singh threw Adonis at the ground a few times, chopped him, choke slammed him and one minute and thirty-eight seconds later got the pin.

yay.

Match Result: Satnam Singh defeated Gino Adonis

The Swirl (Blake Christian & Lee Johnson) vs Alex Zayne & Willie Mack

Jay Lethal was shown in the back watching the match at that odd angle that wrestlers watch tv at. He and Christian have had beef for a while now, so he was interested in seeing the Swirl rotate in a clockwise manner.

Mack started things off against Johnson, which was a good matchup because they both like crazy. A test of strength ensued and Johnson backed out of it. Mack put a headlock on, but Johnson forced him into the corner and threw a stiff kick. Mack punched out of that and hit a shoulder block sending Johnson to the mat.

Johnson tried a hip toss, but Mack blocked it via dancing. The two went off the ropes and Mack landed a ring-moving high knee, sending Johnson to his corner to tag in Christian. Mack tagged in Zayne and the two flew around the ring bouncing off the ropes and ducking moves.

Christian offered his hand for a shake and Zayne fell for it. Christian hit a dropkick, but Zayne responded with a shooting star press. Christian sent Zayne to the corner and threw hands at his midsection. Johnson tagged in and bounced Zayne off the turnbuckle, then raked his eyes on the ropes.

Christian got a blind tag and Johnson slid out of the ring taking Mack with him. Christian sent Zayne out and Johnson dropped him on to the barricade. Christian leapt off the ring apron (the swirliest part of the ring!) and guillotined Zayne off the barricade. He threw him back in the ring and locked in an arm strretch, dragging him around.

Johnson tagged back in and stomped Zayine in the corner. Quick tag and Christian was back in. Lethal was shown in the back, not approving of Christian’s antics. Johnson and MAck tagged in and Mack absolutely levelled Johnson with a lariat. Christian tried to help, but Mack knocked him into kext week and set them up in the corner for hip drops.

Mack hit a cannonball on Johnson and went for the pin, but Johnson kicked out at two. Zayne tagged in and ate a Superkick from Johnson. Christian knocked Mack off the apron and Johnson and Christian hit a spinning kick brain buster combo, but Mack came back to break up the pin.

Christian sent Mack out, and went to set Zayne up for a finisher, but He sent Johnson into Christian who was on the top rope. Mack climbed up and Johnson went up with him. Zayne hit a ripcord hurricanrana, and Mack grabbed Christian for a stunner off the top rope.

Mack went for the pin, but Christian kicked out at two. Zayne went up top, but Christian dodged the stomp and dove outside to take out mack. Johnson scrambed in and hoisted up Zayne for a double stomp driver and that was in. The Swirl got the win without even having to be jerks about it.

Match Result: The Swirl defeated Alex Zayne & Willie Mack

ROH Pure Title Proving Ground Match: Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes) vs. Lee Moriarty [c]

The last STP-associated match of the night pit Komander against Lee Moriarty in a Proving Ground match for Moriarty’s ROH Pure Title.

The bell rang and the 10 minute countdown began. The two locked up and Komander flipped out of a Moriarty wristlock. Moriarty put Komander in a stretch, then an armbar, but Komander rolled out of it, locking in a full nelson on Moriarty.

Moriarty broke the hold and worked Komander into a Border City Stretch. Komander made it to the ropes and used his first break at 8:12 to break the hold. Komander kicked out of a pin attempt as the clock crossed the five minute mark. Moriarty put an octopus on Komander and Kiomander fell into the ropes, using his second break at 4:15. Moriarty went for a suplex, but Komander wormed it into an abdominal stretch, forcing Moriarty to use his second rope break at 3:25.

The speed picked up from there with Komander walking the ropes into a hurricanrana followed by a DDT. with 2:30 left on the clock, Komander caught a kick from Moriarty and the two ran the ropes, resulting in a double dropkick, leaving both men on the mat.

Moriarty charged Komander in the corner, but Komander dodged it into a tornado DDT. Komander went up top with a minute left on the clock and hit a spingboard moonsault from the top rope. The two rolled around on the mat trying to get a pin but neither could.

Moriarty managed a sleeper hold with 0:32 left on the clock. Komander rolled out of it though and and grapevined him into a knee bend hold but time expired and the bell rang. The match was declared a draw, meaning Komander gets his future title shot at Moriarty’s Pure Championship.

Match Result: Komander vs. Lee Moriarty went to a Time Limit Draw (10:00)

The Shane Taylor Promotions faction has grown larger after Thursday as The Infantry are now part of the group.

Six-Man Tag Team title match announced for ROH Final Battle

An ROH Six-Man Tag Team title match is the latest addition to the card for Final Battle.

On today’s edition of ROH Week By Week, it was announced that Shane Taylor Promotions (Moses, Kaun & O’Shay Edwards) will defend the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles against The Righteous (Vincent, Bateman & Dutch) at Final Battle. The pay-per-view is taking place at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore on Saturday, December 11.

Edwards, who is a member of Shane Taylor Promotions, is a substitute for Shane Taylor in the Six-Man Tag Team title match. Taylor is facing Kenny King in a singles match at Final Battle.

Shane Taylor Promotions have held the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles since winning them from Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus this February.

Vincent has previously held the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles three times. All of those reigns came when he was a member of The Kingdom.

Before Final Battle, Shane Taylor Promotions (Taylor, Moses & Kaun) will have a Six-Man Tag Team title defense against Violence Unlimited (Homicide, Chris Dickinson & Tony Deppen). That match will premiere on ROH’s YouTube channel on Thursday, December 9.

ROH TV results: Six-Man Tag Team Championship match

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Quinn McKay revealed she was out of her usual hosting duties due to her match that is scheduled tonight, meaning Delirious is the guest host. Before Delirious came in, McKay drew names out of a pumpkin to decide wildcard tag teams to compete in a special Halloween four-corner tag team bout later on in the night.

Delirious came in and spat out a bunch of inaudible words as the match cards ran across the screen, including a ROH Six Man Tag Team Championship bout between the current champions Shane Taylor Promotions (Taylor, Moses, and Kaun) and the trio of PCO, Danhausen, and Sledge. Also, ROH Women’s World Champion Rok-C teams up with Quinn McKay to face Miranda Alize and Max The Impaler.

Max The Impaler & Miranda Alize (w/ Amy Rose) defeated Quinn McKay & Rok-C (6:37)

This match was ok, but suffered from a lack of a real rhythm and never felt like it hit its full stride.

Rok-C and Alize started off the match, but went to blows immediately. Both women showed fierce striking abilities as they spilled into the corner, prompting McKay to tag in. McKay tried to separate the women and let cooler heads prevail, but would go blow for blow with Alize as the first commercial break ensued.

When the break returned, Alize began to get weary due to the amount of time she’d been in the match. Although weary, she was constantly distracted by Rok-C and took her off the apron at one point. After McKay had missed a few moves, Alize was able to tag in Max.

Max came in and lifted McKay on their shoulders, while also picking up Rok-C with their hands. Both were slammed on top of each other, but Alize tagged herself in and went to pick the bones. After nailing McKay with a go to sleep and only warranting a two count, Alize tagged out to Max. Max lifted both McKay and Rok-C on their shoulders, dumping them on the mat. Max would lift McKay back up and hit her signature backbreaker, as Alize tagged in one last time and made the pinfall herself.

Rey Horus & Silas Young defeated Demonic Flamita & O’Shay Edwards, Flip Gordon & Matt Taven, and EC3 & World Famous CB in a Wildcard Trick Or Treat Halloween Tag Team Four-Corner Survival Match (11:29)

Despite being a very gimmicky-type match, I enjoyed this match for what it was. Maybe a bit too long, but it was still largely fine.

CB and Young started off the bout. After exchanging a few pinfall attempts, Young seemed impressed with CB and tagged out to Horus. Flamita stormed the ring and threw CB out, meaning Flamita and Horus were the legal men. Horus sent Flamita packing after a sweet head scissors takedown, meaning Gordon would springboard off his turnbuckle and take down Horus. Gordon hit a series of moves from his 2018 persona, including a dropkick that sent Flamita to the hills.

EC3 got in the ring, prompting Gordon to introduce himself like it was 2018. Gordon dodged a few clotheslines from EC3 before tagging out to his partner, Matt Taven. Taven got the advantage over EC3 and drop kicked him as a commercial ensued.

When the break returned, Edwards was beating down Taven. Edwards tagged out to Flamita, who asked Horus to come help him double-team Taven.  After the duo hit a few moves together, Flamita superkicked Horus.

The match broke down at this point, with nearly everyone in the match getting in the ring. Taven dove onto Edwards at ringside, who had CB in his hands. Horus would then dive onto Taven and CB, followed by Flamita diving onto all three of them.

The finish of the match saw Horus and CB have a small exchange, but Horus was able to nail a 450 splash. Horus’ partner, Young, came in the ring and disposed of Horus, before making the successful pinfall himself.

ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, Moses, Kaun) defeated PCO, Danhausen and Sledge in a title match (8:33)

Although this was extremely entertaining, I would have preferred the match to be extended by a few minutes to give it more meaning and purpose.

Danhausen and Moses started out. Danhausen tried to take the big man off his feet, but was met with a shoulder block. Before Moses could inflict any more pain, Danhausen requested him to tag out to Taylor. Taylor came in, wrenched the arm of Danhausen, and delivered a flush strike to the jaw that sent him rolling out of the ring. Sledge and Taylor went face to face and traded strikes into a commercial break.

PCO did his shtick as the match returned from break, hitting everybody in sight. He removed the turnbuckle cover and threw all three members of STP into it head first, before diving head-first onto the hard floor at ringside. After PCO regained his composure, he tagged out to Sledge who was met with a right knee from Taylor. Danhausen came in and had some success against Taylor, hitting a standing pump.

The finish of the match saw PCO dive onto Sledge, while Danhausen was attacked 3-on-1. Moses and Kaun hit a double team move on Danhausen that was followed up by a piledriver from Taylor, which secured the pinfall victory.

Final Thoughts:

With the ROH hiatus news, it’s hard to be super invested in the product given that it’s all coming to an end very soon. It’ll be interesting to see if the company pivots to a non-storyline focused show in the coming weeks and just puts on really good matches. Overall though, this was a fine edition of TV that had three fun matches heading  into Final Battle. This wasn’t a can’t miss show by any means, but if you’re looking for just an easy to watch one hour show. this should be on your list.

This week’s episode of ROH TV gets a grade of: Recommended Viewing

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

The Big Takeaway —

The fallout from Best in the World continued with three eventful and very different bouts.

**********

The show started with The Foundation in the locker room consulting Jonathan Gresham about a knee injury. Gresham revealed that he tweaked his knee while sparring with Joe Keys, to which Tracy Williams took concern with. Williams offered Keys a spot in the eight-man tag main event to allow Gresham some rest.

Not Quinn McKay, not Ian Riccaboni, but Brian Johnson joined us from the ROH studio. Johnson did his usual insult shtick and ran down the card.

**********

Rey Horus defeated Fred Yehi (7:02)

Yehi’s swagger was unmatched to start off, casually brushing off any offense that Horus had to offer. Yehi would keep Horus grounded to the mat and applied a Koji Clutch about three minutes in, but Horus escaped quickly. A commercial break ensued shortly after.

When the match resumed, Horus cleared the top rope to dive onto a staggering Yehi on the outside. Horus took control for the moment and capitalized with a rotating frog splash for a close near fall.

Yehi took back control after trying to snap Horus’ neck. He locked in the Koji Clutch, but Horus broke the hold with a rope break. Yehi continued to hammer away at Horus with his brutal offensive style, eventually going to the second rope.

Yehi perched and positioned for a move, but Horus ran at him full speed and jumped up to Yehi’s level. Horus then took Yehi back down to the mat with a bodyscissor driver, pinning him to get the win.

**********

Mandy Leon (w/ Angelina Love) defeated Quinn McKay (8:49)

If McKay wins, she gets the final spot in ROH’s Women’s World Championship tournament.

Right as the Code of Honor was adhered to, Leon clocked McKay with a cheap shot forearm. Leon grabbed a microphone and told McKay that she didn’t belong in The Allure’s ring.

McKay would muster up some offense, but Leon shut it down rather quickly. They also had a nice mat wrestling exchange that resulted in Leon on top.

After a short commercial break, Leon remained in full control. McKay was a sitting duck at ringside when Leon did an awesome running dropkick from the apron.

Leon’s trash talk would finally catch up to her when McKay delivered a great float-over neckbreaker. McKay got some more offense in and eventually locked in a sleeper hold.

Once McKay had the hold applied firmly, Angelina Love jumped up on the apron and distracted referee Joe Mandak. Leon tapped multiple times while Mandak was distracted. Once McKay realized what was happening, she screamed at Mandak, which allowed Love to slip brass knuckles to Leon.

McKay showed some more fight and lifted up Leon for a powerbomb, but Leon nailed her in the cranium with the brass knuckles and followed up with a pin for the win.

Maria Kanellis-Bennett, who was on commentary for the match, said Mandak may only be able to call what he sees — but she’s on the ROH Board of Directors and can do what’s necessary.

**********

Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, Moses, Kaun & O’Shay Edwards) defeated The Foundation (Jay Lethal, Tracy Williams, Rhett Titus) & Joe Keys (16:54)

Edwards and Keys started off the match. Edwards attempted multiple power moves on Keys, but he seemed to reverse them easily — much to the applause of The Foundation. Taylor asked for an opportunity at Keys and took advantage of it by clocking him with a clothesline.

After a short commercial break, Lethal tagged himself in. Lethal and Taylor had a short encounter that saw Lethal tag out once he barely dodged the freight train of a knee strike that Taylor threw.

Moses and Williams got their turn afterwards and had a great striking battle. Williams draped Moses’ arm over the ropes and cinched in an armbar for a moment before referee Todd Sinclair broke it up.

At this stage in the match, frequent tags began. Kaun and Lethal had a small interaction that led to a Taylor and Lethal square-off. It resulted in Lethal being knocked out of the ring by a forearm.

Titus and Moses got great hot tags, allowing Titus to hit a few of his signature moves, including an inverted Sky-Splitter. Edwards tried to get involved to help out his teammate, but he ate a great belly-to-belly suplex from Titus instead.

Titus’ hot streak would result in another really cool moment that saw him dropkick Moses right into a half-and-half suplex from Keys. This almost resulted in Moses getting pinned, but Edwards broke it up at the last second.

The final minutes of the match saw Keys get a lot of shine. He was able to fend off three members of Shane Taylor Promotions by himself while The Foundation recovered at ringside. Keys did his best but ultimately fell short in the end, succumbing to Taylor’s strikes.

The final sequence saw the ring get cleared of all members of the match except for Edwards and Keys. Keys hit a few moves before eventually being crumbled by a Edwards’ powerbomb, allowing Edwards to score the win via pinfall.

Final Thoughts —

It’s quite nice to see Shane Taylor Promotions back on my television screen. Considering their last appearance on ROH TV was around two months ago, I genuinely appreciate when they get the screen time they deserve. They had a great bout with The Foundation & Joe Keys that really allowed each individual their own shine.

Rey Horus and Fred Yehi had a good match. Yehi’s swagger really jumps off the screen, and I’m loving his work in multiple companies. Horus seems to be in line for a title match soon.

I liked the story that Quinn McKay vs. Mandy Leon told, but that was the wrong result. ROH really played into the fact of McKay getting one more shot at her dream, but still had her lose this match. Leon didn’t really need this win and I felt like the result takes away a lot of steam from the feud.

In recent weeks I’ve introduced a scale in order to let you know if the current week of ROH TV is worth your while. The scale is as follows:

  • Must-Watch TV
  • Go Out Of Your Way
  • Recommend Viewing
  • Watch YouTube Clips
  • Avoid At All Costs

This week’s episode of ROH TV is: Go Out Of Your Way

Six-Man Tag Team title match added to ROH Best in the World

A new title match has been announced for ROH Best in the World.

ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor, Moses & Kaun) will put their titles on the line against Dalton Castle, Eli Isom & Dak Draper at Best in the World. The pay-per-view is taking place at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland on Sunday, July 11.

In storyline, the Six-Man Tag Team title match was made without Castle telling Isom and Draper about it first. Castle said Isom and Draper may not see it, but they know that the three of them have something powerful here.

Isom and Draper went to a 15-minute time limit draw against each other on ROH TV this April. They each wanted five more minutes added to the match, but Castle made his way out before it could be restarted. Castle said he was blown away by their match and wasn’t there to fight them. Castle said he’s been watching Isom and Draper since they came to ROH and has seen the growth that they’ve shown.

Castle told Isom and Draper that things have gotten a little dull around here. Castle said he wants to spice things up — and Isom and Draper can help him with that. Castle looked at Draper and said he sees so much inside of him that he likes. Castle then looked at Isom and said he sees so much that he doesn’t like. Castle kicked Isom in the groin but then did the same thing to Draper.

Isom and Draper then faced off in the first round of ROH’s Survival of the Fittest tournament last month. Castle came out to ringside during the match and watched on. Castle leaving near the end of the match distracted Draper and caused him to lose.

Shane Taylor Promotions have held the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles since winning them from Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus this February.

Best in the World will feature ROH’s first live crowd since February 2020. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • ROH World Champion Rush defends against Bandido
  • ROH Television Champion Tony Deppen defends against Dragon Lee
  • ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham defends against Mike Bennett
  • Brody King vs. Jay Lethal
  • EC3 vs. Flip Gordon
  • Last Man Standing match: Josh Woods vs. Silas Young
  • ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor Promotions defend against Dalton Castle, Eli Isom & Dak Draper

Six-Man Tag Team title match set for ROH 19th Anniversary PPV

Another title match has been confirmed for Ring of Honor’s 19th Anniversary pay-per-view.

ROH has announced that Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor & The Soldiers of Savagery) will defend their ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles against former champions MexiSquad (Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus) at the 19th Anniversary PPV. Shane Taylor Promotions won the titles by defeating MexiSquad on ROH television last month.

A Six-Man Tag Team title match between MexiSquad and Shane Taylor Promotions was originally supposed to take place at December’s Final Battle PPV, but Bandido and Flamita were pulled from that show due to pre-travel COVID-19 testing. There was an angle where Shane Taylor Promotions refused to win the titles by forfeit and said they were going to win them the right way.

Taylor pinned Flamita to get the win in last month’s Six-Man Tag Team title match. This will be the first time Taylor & The Soldiers of Savagery (Moses & Kaun) have defended the titles since becoming champions.

ROH’s 19th Anniversary event will air on PPV and HonorClub on Friday, March 26. Here’s the updated card for the show:

  • ROH World Champion Rush defends against Jay Lethal
  • Grudge match: Jay Briscoe vs. EC3
  • ROH Television Champion Dragon Lee defends against Tracy Williams
  • ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Shane Taylor Promotions defend against MexiSquad

ROH TV results: MexiSquad vs. Shane Taylor Promotions title match

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

The Big Takeaway —

New number one contenders to the ROH Tag Team titles were crowned in Dragon Lee and Kenny King, EC3 made his return, and Shane Taylor Promotions defeated MexiSquad to win the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles.

**********

Quinn McKay welcomed us to the broadcast and hyped this week’s card, including a star-studded main event with MexiSquad defending their ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles against Shane Taylor Promotions. McKay also announced that Shane Taylor will get an ROH World Championship match against Rush on next week’s episode.

McKay also noted that next week’s show will feature ROH Tag Team Champions Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham defending their titles against the winner of this week’s Briscoes vs. Dragon Lee & Kenny King number one contender’s match.

**********

Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were on the call this week, per usual. One of the more underrated commentary booths in all of wrestling.

Number one contender’s match: Dragon Lee & Kenny King (w/ Amy Rose) defeated The Briscoes (12:03)

King and Mark Briscoe started the match. King applied a stiff headlock early on, trying to wear down Mark. Mark fought back and tried to get King in an armbar, but King rolled to his corner and tagged out to Dragon Lee. Mark tagged out to Jay Briscoe as well.

Jay was aggressive with Lee, but Lee retaliated with seemingly triple the aggression, causing Jay to tag back out to his brother. Mark and Lee engaged in a chopping war for a moment before Lee trapped Mark in his corner and tagged out to King. King came in and was double teamed quickly by The Briscoes, with Mark hitting a flying elbow off the apron onto the floor. This took us into a commercial break.

Back from the break, King and Mark hit a double clothesline on each other which caused Lee and Jay to get ready for the hot tag. Both tags were made, Jay and Lee came in, and they exchanged stiff forearms. Jay ended the exchange by catching a running Lee in a rolling fireman’s carry slam. Jay positioned Lee on the top rope and followed him up there, but King came from behind and swept Jay’s legs, allowing Lee to perform a top rope stomp on Jay. Lee followed it up with a diving top rope stomp, but Jay kicked out.

King tagged in and hit a beautiful leg hook suplex and then applied a submission on the leg of Jay, but Mark came off the top rope with a flying elbow drop on King.

The final sequences of the match saw Jay hold down King as Mark went to the top rope, but Flip Gordon ran in out of nowhere and kicked Mark as he was on the top rope, allowing for King to roll up Jay for the win.

As The Briscoes were heading to leave, EC3’s music hit. EC3 came out and said that he sees more in Jay then what he’s doing now. He also said there’s no honor in the almighty dollar, implying that he paid off Gordon to attack The Briscoes. EC3 told Jay to control his own narrative and chase the ROH World Championship.

Mike Bennett defeated Bateman (w/ Vita Von Starr)

Bennett immediately opened the match with a running spear. Bateman tried to recover on the outside, but Bennett followed him and stayed on the attack. Bennett went to spear Bateman through the barricade — but he moved out of the way just in time, sending Bennett shoulder-first into the barricade. Bateman stayed in control, launching Bennett throat-first into a piece of metal underneath the apron mat. This took us into a commercial break.

Both men were back in the ring as we came back from the commercial.

Bennett and Bateman engaged in a chopping war that turned into a constant exchange of forearms, ending with both down and out. Bateman nailed Bennett with a brainbuster that only got him a two count. Bennett got right back up and speared Bateman. Bennett then followed up the spear with a piledriver for an anticlimactic win.

After the match, Matt Taven ran into the ring and began nailing Bateman with punches. Taven introduced a wooden block and a chair into the ring while Bennett held Bateman down. Taven grabbed a microphone and told Vincent that he can stop all of this now if he agrees to another match.

Vincent appeared on the video screen and told Taven something he never gets to hear: No. Taven proceeded to smash the chair into Bateman’s ankle and told the camera that he’ll do this every week until Vincent agrees to a match.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor & The Soldiers of Savagery) defeated MexiSquad (Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus) to win the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles

Maria Kanellis-Bennett joined the commentary booth for this match.

Taylor and Horus started the bout, but all hell broke loose quickly as Moses and Kaun jumped in to fight off Bandido and Flamita. The whole match spilled outside quickly and Taylor clocked Bandido with a forearm to the skull. Kaun unloaded a few chops on Flamita as referee Todd Sinclair restored control and brought the match back in the ring.

Kaun and Flamita exchanged a few strikes and reversals before Kaun tagged out to Moses. Bandido tagged in and dropkicked Moses, but it didn’t rattle the big man. Moses leaped over Bandido and then bulldozed him with a clothesline. Taylor tagged in along with Horus. Taylor demolished Horus with a brutal shoulder tackle that took us into a commercial break.

Back from the break, Moses and Horus were the legal men. Horus sprung off the top rope and planted Moses with a spinning DDT. Moses and Horus both got the hot tags to their respective partners Bandido and Taylor. Taylor tried to take down Bandido, but he ducked out of the way multiple times. Flamita tagged in and sprung off the top rope and then off Bandido’s shoulders to complete a hurricanrana on Taylor. MexiSquad took advantage of Shane Taylor Promotions being on the outside and all took turns diving onto the group.

All three members of MexiSquad took their turns performing signature moves on Kaun in the ring. Taylor made the tag and began using bodies against bodies, catching Bandido’s kick and sending it into Horus instead. Taylor sent both Bandido and Horus out of the ring while Moses flew onto them with a running cannonball from the apron.

Taylor took advantage of Bandido and Horus being out by spiking Flamita with his Welcome to The Land piledriver for the win.

Final Thoughts —

Another week, another great episode of ROH TV. It’s like clockwork at this point. The first point I’m going to make is that Dragon Lee is a top 10 wrestler in the world, bar none. ROH is very fortunate to have him on the roster and it’s a genuine pleasure to write about him every week. I’m not quite sure that Kenny King fits into the La Faccion Ingobernable stable or vibe, but they’ve only been together a few times so hopefully chemistry will be built.

Bennett vs. Bateman was good, but the focal point was the aftermath where Taven crushed Bateman’s ankle. I suppose this leads to one last match between Taven and Vincent, hopefully with a big stipulation.

Ever since i began writing these ROH TV recaps, Shane Taylor and The Soldiers of Savagery have stood out like nobody else. Taylor has vastly improved as a wrestler and as a talker, almost weekly it seems. Moses and Kaun are guys who only joined the ROH Dojo system in early 2019, so to see them come full circle and win their first titles in ROH is impressive as hell. I would have preferred the match to get a little bit more time, but the outcome was still correct and doesn’t hurt MexiSquad at all.

ROH crowns new Six-Man Tag Team Champions

New Six-Man Tag Team Champions were crowned on the latest episode of Ring of Honor television.

In the main event of the ROH TV episode that premiered this past weekend, Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor & The Soldiers of Savagery) defeated MexiSquad (Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus) to win the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles. Taylor pinned Flamita to get the win after hitting his Welcome to The Land sit-out piledriver.

The Six-Man Tag Team title match was originally supposed to take place at December’s Final Battle pay-per-view, but Bandido and Flamita were pulled from the PPV due to pre-travel COVID-19 testing. Taylor & The Soldiers of Savagery (Moses & Kaun) were interviewed at Final Battle and declined to win the Six-Man Tag Team titles via forfeit. Taylor said they wanted to win the titles the right way.

Taylor instead defeated Jay Briscoe in a singles match at Final Battle. Shane Taylor Promotions also defeated The Foundation (Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham & Tracy Williams) on ROH TV last month.

Prior to losing the titles to Shane Taylor Promotions, MexiSquad had been ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions since January 2020.

The episode of ROH TV that premieres this coming weekend will be headlined by Taylor challenging for Rush’s ROH World Championship. Lethal & Gresham will also defend their ROH Tag Team titles against La Faccion Ingobernable’s Dragon Lee & Kenny King in a Pure Rules match on the episode.

Taylor is also challenging for Rush’s ROH World Championship on the ROH TV episode that premieres the weekend of Saturday, February 27.

Bandido, Flamita & Horus have been ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions since January 2020.
