Sting’s son Garrett Borden to make pro wrestling debut

Both of Sting’s sons are now attempting to continue the Borden family legacy in pro wrestling.

It’s been announced that Garrett Borden, the eldest of Sting’s two sons, will make his pro wrestling debut this weekend for Rhodes Wrestling Association in Leander, Texas. Garrett is facing off against Brandon Barretta at the Sunday, May 17 Final Reckoning event.

Rhodes Wrestling Association and the Rhodes Wrestling Academy are both run by AEW wrestler/coach Dustin Rhodes.

“The son of the legendary @stinger makes his in ring debut at Final Reckoning!,” the promotion announced. “Standing in his way is up and coming midwest native @brandonbarretta98! Brandon is looking to rain on the parade of @garrett_borden, and make his mark in RWA!”

Like his brother Steven Borden, Garrett did not show any interest in becoming a wrestler until catching the bug during Sting’s retirement tour. Steven Borden is further along in the process than his brother, already competing on the indies and wrestling in dark matches at AEW events. Garrett and Steven Borden are both in their 30s.

Garrett’s wife Katelyn Borden works in community outreach for AEW and is also pursuing an in-ring career, having trained at the Rhodes Wrestling Academy. She competes as Jael but has been on hiatus from the ring since 2025, when she and Garrett welcomed their son Bronson into the world. During her pregnancy, Katelyn posted that she missed the ring and was excited to return when she was able to.

Though he hasn’t posted any new content since 2024, Garrett has a YouTube channel with videos and live streams mostly focused on the game Destiny 2.

Wrestler pulled from wXw show on short notice due to ‘major career opportunity’

The wXw European champion has been pulled from an upcoming show due to what the promotion described as a “major career opportunity.”

21-year-old Dutch wrestler Ricky Sosa had been scheduled to compete in Sunday’s 16 Carat tournament in Oberhausen. However, on Friday morning, the promotion announced that while Sosa will still be in attendance, he will not be performing on the show.

The promotion added that the opportunity came up on short notice.

wXw wrote (translated):

“wXw European Champion @rickysosa508 is unfortunately unavailable for the 16 Carat Gold Tournament due to a major career opportunity that has come up at short notice. We wish him the best of luck. However, Ricky will be in Oberhausen on Sunday at the 16 Carat Tournament.”

Sosa has never wrestled in the United States but has said in interviews that working with WWE is a career goal.

Mark Henry posted a photo of him and Sosa together last month, writing, “I don’t know if you guys know Ricky Sosa, but he is going to be an unbelievable talent in the future. He’s young athletic and he’s got that extra thing that you need for pro wrestling.”

Florida independent wrestler detained by ICE, Gangrel asks fans for support

Florida independent wrestler Nicolth Hernandez-Lucero’s husband is speaking out after the 24-year-old was taken into ICE custody earlier this month.

Lucero was trained by Gangrel and has wrestled in Florida alongside her sister Tiffany as The Lucero Twins.

Lucero’s husband, Noah Lazega, told NBC Miami that she was taken into custody following a traffic stop by federal immigration agents in Fort Lauderdale on February 11 and has remained in detention since. Lazega said Lucero is originally from Colombia and moved to the United States at age 15. She also works as a surgical technician at a local hospital.

Gangrel later shared a GoFundMe to support the family during her detention, writing:

“Please help if you can, great people in a terrible situation.”

Lazega hopes that Lucero’s situation helps raise awareness for others going through similar issues.

“She’s a kind, compassionate person, selfless,” Lazega told NBC Miami. “She helps people, saves people. She has a whole community behind her right now rooting for her.”

“I hope we can get her out, get her help, raise awareness to other people that are going through this right now. They don’t deserve this. Nobody deserves this,” he continued.

Lucero’s attorney, Justin Gould, said she entered the country legally as a dependent through her parents and has no criminal record.

“This is a person, once again, who entered legally, who filed a case legally as a dependent through her parents and has been in this country with no criminal record,” Gould said.

“So now it is basically everybody’s illegal unless otherwise noted, and it’s just not OK,” Gould continued. “This is not what the president promised.”

NBC Miami reported that Lucero is being held at a detention facility in Pompano Beach, Florida.

MLW bringing back Fusion TV series

After a two-year absence, MLW is bringing back its Fusion television series.

The promotion released a teaser today hyping that Fusion will return in 2026. The show has been on hiatus since the end of 2023, with MLW instead opting to present regular specials instead of weekly TV. A return date has not been announced, but MLW says the show will be coming back soon.

“You waited. You demanded. Soon it returns. MLW Fusion 2026,” the teaser says.

It was announced this week that MLW, NJPW, and CMLL will be joining forces for Fantastica Mania USA in Charleston, South Carolina on April 12. That event is listed as a Fusion taping.

Fusion debuted in 2018 and has served as MLW’s primary TV show. It aired on MLW’s YouTube channel and beIN Sports before the series went away in December 2023.

The next event on MLW’s calendar is Battle Riot VIII in Kissimmee, Florida on January 29. It’s being headlined by the annual Battle Riot match, where Mads Krule Krugger is putting his MLW World Heavyweight Championship on the line against 39 other challengers. The show will be broadcast live on YouTube.

Colby Corino re-signs with NWA despite rumored outside interest

Despite rumored interest from WWE and AEW, Colby Corino is staying put in the NWA.

The NWA announced today that Corino has re-signed with the promotion on a new contract. While the exact length was not disclosed, the NWA stated that it is a multi-year deal. Corino has been featured in the NWA for several years now and is a former NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Corino, the son of former ECW World Champion Steve Corino, is still recovering after being forced to undergo emergency neck and back surgery in July 2025. The NWA notes that an in-ring return is getting closer, but there is no date for it yet. Corino recently posted that a neurologist told him that he’s “healing beautifully” — and Corino said he’ll definitely be back soon.

“Just because I’m broken now doesn’t mean I won’t come back stronger, smarter and better than ever to fulfill my destiny,” Corino said on a recent episode of NWA Power. “That’s to win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.”

Bodyslam reported earlier this month that WWE and AEW had both inquired about Corino’s contract status, though the report also stated that Corino was in discussions with the NWA about a new deal. His father Steve works behind the scenes in NXT.

Corino has overcome significant adversity in his life, including battling drug addiction at one point.

“Not even 10 years ago I was a homeless iv dr*g addict living in a tent under a bridge,” he tweeted last year. “Today, I have an amazing son, beautiful, supportive wife, and am able to live my dream of supporting my family by wrestling full time. Anything is possible with enough passion and hard work.”

Former WWE star Lana planning indie return

Former WWE and AEW personality CJ Perry (Lana) is planning a return to the professional wrestling industry.

On a new episode of TMZ’s Inside the Ring podcast, Perry laid out some of her plans for 2026. She is now part of Inside the Ring as a regular contributor, and Perry is about to start attending stand-up comedy classes ahead of her first comedy show happening this March. Perry also stated that she will be returning to the indies as a manager.

“I will be returning back to professional wrestling and I’m going to be hitting the indie scene,” she announced. “Definitely on the mic and managing, 100 percent. And that’s also why I’m enrolling in stand-up, because I want to be so good on the mic. I want to be so sharp. I want to be so iconic. Paul Heyman is my favorite manager of all time. I’m always studying him and watching him. And yeah, I’m going to go on this journey. So I’m going to start going to wrestling events, and I’m going to start searching for the next super athlete.”

Perry said it’s to be determined whether she will be appearing as herself or going back to her Lana persona. She is also not closing the door on competing in the ring.

“My goal is not to start wrestling, but if someone has an issue with me and I need to resolve some conflict in the ring, you better believe I’m going to be ready,” she hyped.

When her husband Rusev returned to WWE in 2025, Perry signed a Legends contract with the company. She’s said the Legends deal could potentially lead to her getting involved in WWE storylines when the time is right.

Perry hosts her own podcast called Identity Crisis along with appearing on Inside the Ring. Her husband Rusev is opening up his own wrestling school in their home city of Nashville in March.

Update on Stardom mystery wrestler vignette

Stardom continues to hype the arrival of a mystery wrestler — though it does not appear to be who fans initially thought it was.

The vignettes began airing during Christmas week and showed a mystery figure sitting in front of several screens. Initial speculation was that Stardom was hyping the return of either former WWE wrestler Dakota Kai or former NXT wrestler Stevie Turner, who both have been associated with video game streaming. But, as we’ve gotten a better look at the figure, that does not appear to be the case.

With the gear the mystery person is wearing in the latest video, fans are now speculating it to be Maki Itoh. She has been a free agent since departing Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling in August 2025.

Along with her work in Japan, Itoh has frequently wrestled in the United States and become popular with fans due to her foul-mouthed “Fired Idol” character, which is a reference to her real-life past as an aspiring pop singer. She is a regular for Game Changer Wrestling and also worked a match for House of Glory in November 2025, losing to Shayna Baszler.

Itoh has experience for AEW as well, having made appearances for the promotion from 2021-2023.

Fans attempt to rush the ring at independent event

An incident occurred at a C4 Wrestling event in Ottawa on Friday.

The independent promotion was holding its 18th Anniversary show at the Preston Events Center when two people entered the ring and attempted to assault the referee before the main event. The men were subdued and ejected from the building. However, they attempted to re-enter and a second scuffle occurred.

A fan in attendance posted their personal account of what happened to Reddit on Monday:

“Just prior to the main event, after the Referee was introduced, two large males jumped into the ring and attempted to assault the Ref with punches.
Security was quick to intervene and was able to grab them before they could actually land a punch.
Security did there best to subdue the assailants and get them out of the Event Centre venue. There were punches thrown throughout the process from both sides but the secruity seemed to be doing it through self-defence. Once the men were thrown out they tried to come back in and another scrum ensued until they were finally cast out for good.
After some recuperation time and checking everyone was okay, the show continued with a standing ovation of support for the Ref and staff. The Ref was shaken but contiuned working.”

The author of the post later added that it seemed as though the crowd, at first, thought it was part of the show as the two men were wearing similar clothing.

The post continues:

“The crowd was confused intially thinking it was part of the story line. The two men were wearing similar outfits (grey shirt, caps, jeans) and some thought it was a tag team or something similar but soon realized it was not.”

“The Ref seemed okay and was visibly shaken by the experience. The Wrestlers made sure that he was recognized before the match started.”

John Pollock of Post Wrestling spoke with C4 owner Mark Pollesel, who stated that security overheard two fans discussing rushing the ring, and that the C4 team subdued them when they did so. He said that while punches were thrown, it does not appear anyone from either side was hurt. Pollesel says he got into a shouting match with the two men when they attempted to claim their actions were part of the show.

Pollesel was quoted as saying:

“The incident as a whole is absolutely not something that ever happens at our shows. I can count on one hand how many times fans have gotten into the ring or confronted talents on one hand in 18 years.  I absolutely hate that this all happened. The group that jumped in the ring was absolutely not regular fans, and not representative of our community.  Something we are incredibly proud of is that we have an awesome, inclusive, and welcoming crowd.  I just hate that anybody would try to cause problems on our anniversary like that”.

Capital City Championship Combat, aka C4, was created in 2007 and typically runs monthly shows in Ottawa. The promotion teamed with Evil Uno’s Mystery Wrestling earlier this year for the World’s Longest Match fundraiser in August.

Jonathan Gresham set for in-ring return after suffering stroke in August

Jonathan Gresham is returning to the ring.

In early August, Gresham revealed that he had woken up unable to use the left side of his body and was struggling to talk. He was taken to the hospital, where he was told he had suffered two strokes.

Game Changer Wrestling has announced that Gresham will return to the ring for its Jersey Championship Wrestling show on Sunday, February 1, at the Melrose Ballroom.

GCW wrote on Monday:

“JON GRESHAM makes his return to the ring on February 1st for GCW & @JerseyCW’s SuperPower Slam!”

The show is a charity event and will raise funds for the Little Oaks Center for Neurodevelopment. The center provides resources, services, and therapies for neurodivergent children and their parents. Paul Walter Hauser, Matt Cardona, Mance Warner, Man Like Dereiss, and Effy are also booked for the show.

Gresham will return to the promotion for the 2026 Jersey J-Cup the following weekend on February 6-7 at the White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Gresham last wrestled at GCW Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIV on August 2 in Rutherford, New Jersey, where he lost to Pete Dunne.

Vince Russo: Violent J is ‘the closest to a Vince McMahon’ I’ve ever worked with

Vince Russo says Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse is the “closest to a Vince McMahon” he has ever worked with.

Last month, Russo was announced as the new head writer of Juggalo Championship Wrestling, the promotion run by the Insane Clown Posse. Russo appeared as a guest on The Ariel Helwani Show on Wednesday and spoke about what he enjoys about his new role.

Russo said:

“I have to say this because I want everybody to know this. I hadn’t seen (Violent) J in 26 years. I worked with him for four days. Violent J, out of everybody I’ve ever worked with, is the closest to a Vince McMahon, without a shadow of a doubt. This guy is a genius.”

“And let me tell you Ariel, how I know he’s a genius. When you are creative, you are not detailed-oriented. You’re not because your mind is out here, you’re always thinking outside of the box. You need somebody else to dot the Is and cross the Ts. That’s where Ed (Ferrera) and I worked so well together. Ed was a detail guy. I sat there and I watched Violent J for four days, this guy did both.”

And this was unbelievable to me because whether people want to believe it or not, Vince McMahon was really not a creative genius. The genius of Vince McMahon was he could see things that nobody else could see. And what he used to call that all the time is the nuances. Vince would see the nuances that nobody else saw.

“If I wrote a script that was a 9, Vince would tweak a nuance here, a nuance there, now the show was a 10. But you give Vince McMahon a blank piece of paper, Vince McMahon cannot write you a wrestling show.”

“And that’s why when I saw the creative genius of Violent J, I was like man, this is the guy I want to work with. There’s no politics, there’s no BS, this is a guy who knows we need to expand this and bring it to the world once again and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

New episodes of JCW’s weekly show are published on Psychopathic Records’ YouTube channel on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Eastern. The most recent episode features Matt Cross vs. Mecha Wolf, Caleb Konley vs. Ninja Mack, Kerry Morton vs. Suicide, and appearances by Big Vito, Vampiro and Violent J.

Russo and the Insane Clown Posse previously worked together in WCW in late 1999 and early 2000. JCW was formed by ICP’s Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope in December 1999. The duo had also finished a three-month stint with WWE in 1998, where they had a brief role as members of the Parade of Human Oddities. ICP also had a run in ECW in 1997.

February 20, 2008 Observer Newsletter: WWE scores record profits, Georgia looks to regulate pro wrestling

The most successful final quarter in company history, boosted by 29 overseas events, strong DVD releases and profits from the DVD releases of “See No Evil” and “The Marine” have resulted in the highest grossing year in the history of the promotion.

WWE broke the record set during the 2000-01 period during the Rock and Steve Austin heyday, taking him $485,700,000 for the year and finishing with a profit of $52,100,000. Another reason never talked about why this year looks so good is with the weakening of the dollar on a worldwide basis and everything being figured into dollars with such a heavy percentage of the revenue coming outside the U.S., it makes enough of a difference that without it, they would not have broken the revenue record.

The big difference is the foreign market which accounted for 40% of the profits this year. For actual profit margin from wrestling itself, the company had its fourth most successful year in history, trailing the three years from 1998-99 to 2000-01.

Andrade to face lucha legend in indie dream match

New AEW signee Andrade is set to compete in an indie dream match later this month.

Mucha Lucha Atlanta has announced that Andrade will face off against lucha legend LA Park at the promotion’s show in Norcross, Georgia on Sunday, October 26. It marks the first time the two have ever faced each other one-on-one.

“A fight never seen before, a true dream match, something that seemed impossible,” Mucha Lucha Atlanta wrote. “Andrade ‘El Idolo’ El ingobernable goes head to head against the living legend LA Park ‘La Autentica Parka’ The ring assassin, a one-on-one clash that will shake MLA!

“A clash of generations, styles, and egos. Two wrestling giants who will hold nothing back.’

Espacio Discotheque ATL will be the venue for the show.

On the sixth anniversary edition of AEW Dynamite last night, Andrade made his return to the company by joining the Don Callis Family and targeting Kenny Omega. Andrade then posted a tweet today teasing that Omega was only the first name on his AEW hit list.

Andrade is back in AEW after his first run ended at the end of 2023. He returned to WWE at that time but was released from his WWE contract last month.

In addition to this show and his AEW return, Andrade has also booked appearances for The Crash and House of Glory.

LA Park — the original La Parka — is a member of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame. Along with his work in Mexico, he’s spent time in the United States with WCW and MLW during his career.

Shayna Baszler announced for new indie date

Shayna Baszler is set to compete for indie promotion House of Glory Wrestling next month.

It’s been announced that Baszler will make her House of Glory debut at Superclash on Saturday, November 15. The event is being held in Long Island, New York in collaboration with the Big Event Entertainment and Sports Expo convention. Suffolk Credit Union Arena in Brentwood will be the location for the show.

An opponent for Baszler has not been named yet.

Released by WWE in May, the 45-year-old Baszler is returning to the ring this weekend for her first match in nearly six months. She will face off against Dani Luna at Prestige Wrestling’s show in Portland, Oregon on October 5.

Baszler did make an appearance at WWE NXT’s recent Homecoming special, which took place at Full Sail University and celebrated the history of NXT. Though WWE has hopes of bringing Baszler back in a coaching or producing role, there is nothing in place for that at the moment.

Another former WWE talent — Andrade — will also be making his House of Glory debut at Superclash. He was released from his WWE contract in September.

Saraya opens up about fan support: ‘Oh my god, people still like me’

During an emotional appearance on Busted Open Radio this week, Saraya opened up about how much recent fan support has meant to her.

The former Paige was asked if AJ Lee’s return to WWE has inspired her to want her own comeback. She responded by expressing interest in the idea, along with potentially working with Lee on-screen again at some point.

“You know, I’m always going to have that feeling, because WWE is doing amazing things right now,” Saraya said. “And you’re just like, man, I miss being in the locker room. I miss being around people like Nattie. I miss my sisters. You know, I do miss that. And I miss being a part of these things.

“And then when I watched AJ, I’ve watched that over and over again, because she’s my fairy godmother, dude. I love her so much. She was one that kind of took me under her wing when I first came up on the roster, too. And we traveled together and we had the frenemies thing.”

Saraya said, after Lee’s return, there have been a lot of fans on social media voicing that they want her back. That’s especially meaningful to Saraya because she thought fans didn’t like her anymore.

“And my social media has not stopped. It has blown up. I cannot go on there without hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people doing videos being like, ‘Please bring Saraya back, please bring Paige back.’ And I get excited — because I keep forgetting, I feel like people don’t like me anymore,” she said. “And it sounds pretty, you know, insecure and I’m not trying to get sympathy, but it made me really emotional for the past couple of days.

“And I have like shed some tears about it. Because I’m like, ‘Oh my god, people still like me. And they still want me to be around.’ That’s probably the best feeling in the world for me. Like, you know, I get insecure about these things. This world can be a little stressful and you get insecure. And so, yeah, that’s been amazing.

“With AJ, I would love to be her tag partner again or run it back eventually. You know, I’m not saying right away. She needs her moment. Like, people are excited for her to come back. Maybe one day, we’ll see.”

Saraya departed AEW this March, with the split being mutual and the sides remaining on good terms. She has taken some time away from the ring to focus on other pursuits, including launching a new podcast called “Rulebreakers.”

Despite moments of insecurity, Saraya said she does realize that she’s had a great career. Right now, she feels like she’s fallen in love with wrestling again and wants to advance her style in the ring.

“I feel like the past couple of years, I wasn’t fully invested in it as much. But I just found my love for it again,” she said. “And I’m just like, man, this is such an exciting time for wrestling. And I miss it. And I want to get back. I want to be Paige again — like the way she wrestled — the way Paige wrestled in NXT. I want that back, and I want to upgrade her. I’m not going to be crazy, but like I’m going to be — I want to do the new generation style of wrestling.”

If Saraya were to return to WWE competition, it would be her first time wrestling for the company since 2017. She was medically disqualified due to neck issues but remained with WWE in a non-wrestling role until her departure from the promotion in 2022. After that, she joined AEW for a two-plus year run that included a reign with the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Former NWA TV champion announces departure from promotion

A former NWA champion has announced their departure from the promotion.

Max the Impaler, who joined the NWA in 2022, revealed last night that they are no longer with the company. They were a Television Champion for the NWA in 2023-2024, along with challenging for other titles like the NWA World Women’s Championship and NWA National Heavyweight Championship over the past few years.

“I am no longer with NWA,” Max wrote. “I am thankful for my time there and everyone that supported me. For now that is all I have to say.”

Before coming to the NWA, Max made appearances for Ring of Honor and was a participant in the 2021 ROH Women’s World Championship tournament that was won by Rok-C (WWE star Roxanne Perez).

Max has made regular trips to Japan in recent years for Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling along with their NWA work.

The next major show for the NWA is the company’s annual Halloween-themed Samhain event, which is being held at Center Stage in Atlanta on October 17.
