WWE has revealed how Becky Lynch’s challenger for WrestleMania 36 will be determined.
It was announced via The Wrap this afternoon that Shayna Baszler, Asuka, Ruby Riott, Natalya, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan will be the six participants in next month’s women’s Elimination Chamber match. The winner will challenge Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 36.
Baszler is expected to be Lynch’s challenger for WrestleMania. She appeared on Raw last week and took part in an angle where she bit Lynch after Lynch retained her title against Asuka. Lynch refused to get in an ambulance, drove off in it herself, and then returned later in the show. She cut a promo where she told Baszler that she better find Lynch before Lynch finds her.
This year’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view is taking place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 8. The Wells Fargo Center is also advertising that there will be an Elimination Chamber match to decide who will challenge for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 36.
Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida is hosting WrestleMania on April 5.
Ruby Riott returned to WWE television tonight on Raw.
Liv Morgan had just defeated Lana when Riott made her return. At first, it appeared she was there to congratulate her fellow Riott Squad member. However, Riott attacked Morgan and put the boots to her. Once Riott left, Lana took advantage and laid out Morgan with an x-factor.
Riott had been for an extended period of time after undergoing double shoulder surgery. Her last in-ring appearance was back on May 15, when she lost a fatal four way match for the Raw Women’s title.
Since Riott’s injury, the rest of the Riott Squad broke up. Morgan was initially traded to SmackDown, but after months of not appearing on television debuted as a member of the Raw roster late last year, confronting Lana over her marriage to Bobby Lashley.
Sarah Logan, the third member of the Riott Squad, remained on the Raw roster but has mostly been working matches on Main Event.
Ruby Riott has undergone her second shoulder surgery of the year.
After having surgery, Riott posted a picture on her social media accounts on Tuesday and captioned it with: “Round 2… Fight!”
Riott had surgery on her right shoulder in May to repair a bilateral injury. WWE announced at the time that she would have to undergo surgery on her left shoulder at a later date for the same injury.
Riott’s last match before having surgery was a fatal four-way against Becky Lynch, Tamina, and Lacey Evans at WWE’s house show in Cardiff, Wales on May 17.
The Riott Squad (Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan) were split up when Morgan moved to SmackDown in April’s Superstar Shake-up. Morgan made an appearance on the July 16 episode of SmackDown and lost to Charlotte Flair. After the match, Morgan teased a character change where she’s going to be “real” when she appears next.
Logan has recently been feuding with Dana Brooke on Main Event.
Ruby Riott is out of action following what will be the first of two shoulder surgeries.
WWE.com reported this afternoon that Riott underwent successful surgery on 5/21 to repair a bilateral injury to her right shoulder. They also said that she will undergo similar surgery in her left shoulder at a later date. There is no current timetable for her return.
Riott hasn’t appeared on television since the 4/22 episode of Main Event, losing to Dana Brooke. But she has been wrestling on house shows, with her most recent match being on 5/17 when she competed in a fatal four way match for the Raw Women’s title that involved champion Becky Lynch, Lacey Evans and Tamina.
The Riott Squad hasn’t been seen on television since the Superstar Shake-Up went into effect. Riott and Sarah Logan were kept on Raw, but Liv Morgan was traded to SmackDown. Morgan also hasn’t appeared on television since the split, but was teaming with her Riott Squad teammates during the recent European tour.
Two matches have been announced for Raw’s go-home show for WrestleMania 35.
Ahead of WrestleMania, Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair will team up on next week’s Raw. They’re facing The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan) in a six-woman tag match.
WWE has announced a stipulation where Rousey, Lynch, or Charlotte will forfeit their place at WrestleMania if they betray their team against The Riott Squad.
Rousey will defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Lynch and Charlotte in a triple threat match in the main event of WrestleMania.
Next week’s Raw is taking place at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. Kurt Angle’s farewell tour will continue, with him facing Rey Mysterio on the episode. Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is also set to appear.
Angle has defeated Apollo Crews, Chad Gable, and Samoa Joe on his farewell tour thus far and has a match against AJ Styles on this week’s SmackDown.
Baron Corbin has been announced as the opponent for Angle’s farewell match at WrestleMania. Mysterio will challenge for Samoa Joe’s United States title at the event.
