Will Ospreay hopes RevPro British Heavyweight title is defended at Forbidden Door

Will Ospreay wants to see Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship defended at Forbidden Door 2025.

Forbidden Door is being held in London this year with The O2 Arena set to host the pay-per-view on Sunday, August 24. It’s the fourth straight year that AEW and NJPW have joined forces for the event. While speaking with Q101’s Case Lowe, Ospreay said that — in addition to AEW, NJPW, CMLL, ROH, and Stardom wrestlers — he’s hoping that RevPro will be involved because of how important the British indie promotion was to his development.

“I really do hope we can get RevPro on there, because they was such a huge hand in my upbringing and my journey in pro wrestling,” Ospreay said. “Like, I would really love to have the British Heavyweight Championship defended on that show.”

The Undisputed British Heavyweight title is currently held by Michael Oku, who is on his second reign as champion. Oku competed for AEW at an ROH taping in Boston earlier this month.

AEW star Mercedes Mone is RevPro’s Undisputed British Women’s Champion, holding that belt in addition to the TBS Championship and NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.

RevPro has an official partnership with NJPW and has also worked with AEW despite not having a formal relationship with them at the moment.

Ospreay is the most prominently featured wrestler on the poster for Forbidden Door 2025. He told Q101 that being able to wrestle at The O2 is truly a blessing. He grew up 35 minutes from the venue and will now be competing there for the first time

“The fact that I’m going to be front and center for that show truly is a blessing and a huge responsibility that I’m willing to take on and ready for that responsibility,” Ospreay said.

No matches for Forbidden Door have been announced yet.

Mercedes Mone retains Undisputed British Women’s title at RevPro High Stakes

Mercedes Mone retained the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship today at High Stakes.

Mone defeated Kanji on Sunday’s show from the Doncaster Dome in Doncaster, England. It was her first defense of the title since winning it from Mina Shirakawa at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, and also marked her in-ring debut for RevPro. The match aired live on Rev Pro’s streaming service.

Kanji is a seven-year pro from Nottingham. She’s a two-time PROGRESS Women’s Champion and faced Stephanie Vaquer at last year’s CMLL/RevPro FantasticaMania show in London. She has also wrestled on NJPW Royal Quest events in London in 2022 and 2024.

Today’s match was Moné’s third singles win of the month. She’s wrestled five times in April and holds a 3-0 singles record, with wins over Julia Hart, Athena, and now Kanji. Her tag team with Harley Cameron is 0-2.

Mercedes Mone to defend Undisputed British Women’s title at RevPro High Stakes

Mercedes Mone is set for a title defense next month.

RevPro confirmed on Sunday that Mone will make her first Undisputed British Women’s title defense on April 20 at the Doncaster Dome for their High Stakes event, taking on Kanji. The match will also serve as Mone’s official debut in RevPro, as she won the title in Japan earlier this year.

At Sunday’s RevPro Epic Encounter, Kanji defeated AEW star Deonna Purrazzo. After the match, Mone appeared in a video and congratulated Kanji on the win, saying she was next in line and would show everyone next month why she is the CEO.

Mone won the title at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5 at the Tokyo Dome, defeating Mina Shirakawa. It was a winner take all match that had both Shirakawa’s Undisputed British Women’s title and Mone’s NJPW Strong Women’s Championship on the line.

Kanji is a freelancer who has also wrestled for the likes of Pro Wrestling Eve and Progress, where she is a former two-time Progress Women’s Champion.

Mercedes Mone announced for RevPro High Stakes 2025

Revolution Pro Wrestling has announced Mercedes Mone for an upcoming show.

Mone, the current Undisputed British Women’s Champion, is featured on the poster released today for RevPro High Stakes 2025 on April 20 at the Doncaster Dome in Doncaster, England.

Mone won the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship at Wrestle Dynasty in the Tokyo Dome on January 5, 2025, defeating Mina Shirakawa in a title vs. title match. Shirakawa had previously won the belt from Dani Luna at RevPro’s anniversary show last summer.

RevPro has announced several other events for the year, including the British J Cup on June 14, the Revolution Rumble on June 22 at York Hall, and its anniversary show on August 22 and 23 at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

Before heading to England for RevPro, Mone is set to wrestle her first indie match since 2012 at House of Glory’s March 15 event. Her opponent has yet to be announced.

Double title match agreed to between Mercedes Mone & Mina Shirakawa for Wrestle Dynasty

Mina is coming for Mercedes Mone.

After Mone successfully defended the NJPW Strong Women’s title against Hazuki in the main event of Strong Style Evolved on Sunday, Mina Shirakawa came out and said she wanted Mone for Wrestle Dynasty. Mone agreed to a match for January 5 at the Tokyo Dome, but only if Shirakawa agreed to put up her RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship. Shirakawa agreed as the two danced together to end the show.

If Mone were to be successful in defeating Shirakawa at Wrestle Dynasty, she would hold three championships in three different companies. Shirakawa has been the Undisputed British Women’s Champion since August, defeating Dani Luna at RevPro’s 12th Anniversary Show.

Shirakawa was most recently seen on AEW television last week, losing a match for the Women’s Championship against current champion Mariah May after May turned on her former friend at Full Gear last month. Mone is scheduled to defend the TBS Championship against Anna Jay at this week’s AEW Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite.

AEW wrestler Dante Martin set for RevPro British J-Cup

Rising AEW star Dante Martin is set to compete in the United Kingdom’s top junior heavyweight tournament.

Barbaro Cavernario, Cameron Khai, Lio Rush, Robbie X, Kid Lykos, Robbie Eagles, and Kid Lykos II will also be participants.

It’s an offshoot of the Super J-Cup tournament that originated in NJPW in the 1990s.

The 23-year-old Martin made his RevPro debut this August, wrestling at the promotion’s 12th anniversary show during All In weekend. He teams with his older brother Darius as Top Flight in AEW/ROH, where they are aligned with Action Andretti as a trios team.

The Gordon Craig Theatre at the Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre is the venue for British J-Cup 2024.

MJF to defend AEW American Championship vs. Michael Oku at RevPro event

MJF is a traveling champion.

The holder of the newly-renamed AEW American Championship has been announced as defending his title against Michael Oku at RevPro Summer Sizzler 2024 in London on August 11.

MJF appeared via video on today’s RevPro event in Coventry.

“Michael Oku. Will Ospreay, you earned his respect, which means you have my undying hatred. You are scum of the Earth, you are disgusting, you are scrawny, you are indy trash and you hail, let’s face it, from the worst country in the entire world, a third-world country, if we’re being honest.”

“I remember the Boston Tea Party,” he continued. “I remember what your people tried to do to mine but we fought back! And I’m ready to fight back, Michael Oku. I’m ready to take you out and prove a point that everybody from the UK, hell everybody from Europe, is a bum.”

MJF is also scheduled to defend his title against Templario in Arena Mexico for CMLL on August 2. Following that, he’s set to defend the belt, provided he’s still champion, against Will Ospreay on August 25 at AEW All In.

Oku had a Match of the Year candidate at RevPro’s event on February 18, 2024. He defeated Will Ospreay to retain his Undisputed British Heavyweight title in a match our own Dave Meltzer rated six stars.

UK wrestler James Castle passes away at 35

Jamie Stacey, better known to wrestling fans as James Castle, has died.

Castle passed away on Saturday after a four-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He was 35. His passing was first revealed by his partner, Zoe Lucas, on social media.

Lucas wrote:

“On Saturday 15th June after 4 years of treatment, 12 rounds of chemotherapy, 2 bone marrow transplants, radio therapy and countless experimental trials we lost Jamie Stacey @JamesCastle49 to Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Thank you for giving me the best 9 years of my life”

RevPro shared the below message regarding Castle’s passing:

“We are saddened to share the loss of our dear friend Jamie Stacey aka. James Castle after a 4 year battle with Leukaemia. A former tag team Champion, Jamie was a super talent in the ring. The first wrestler trained from scratch at our Portsmouth School & without his help behind the scenes RevPro would not be here today. A truly wonderful human being. A warrior. A fighter. The most interesting & intelligent man to ever step foot inside a RevPro ring There are so many stories to tell and we will make sure they are all told. We love you and will make sure you are remembered forever.”

Before getting sick in 2020, Castle had been a regular with RevPro. His team with Sha Samuels, known as The Revolutionists, held the promotion’s tag team titles for 364 days in 2015/16.

Castle revealed in January that his Leukemia had returned and that doctors had advised they could only manage the disease. He was told at the time that he had “months rather than years” left.

There has been an outpouring of tributes to Castle online from those who knew and worked with him.

“James & Zoe are the definition of a warrior. All my love to you. RIP James Castle,” wrote Will Ospreay.

Sha Samuels posted:

“The Jamie in Jamie Hayter was suggested by Gideon, ribbing James Castle Will Kaven was originally called Will Castle for similar reasons & the Lucas in Zoe Lucas came from James’ Mums maiden name as we all joked about them getting married a few months into a new relationship,” wrote RevPro’s Andy Quildan.

Gabe Kidd pulled from RevPro High Stakes due to injury

Gabe Kidd is out of RevPro’s High Stakes event due to injury.

Rev Pro wrote on X that Kidd would be out of Sunday’s show due to injuries he suffered in a cage match that took on NJPW’s New Beginning in Osaka event back on February 11. Trent Seven will be replacing Kidd in his match against NJPW’s Shingo Takagi.

The company wrote the following:

Unfortunately, as a result of injuries sustained in last weeks historic NJPW cage match, Gabe Kidd has not been cleared to compete at tomorrows High Stakes. A late call which nobody (including Gabe) wanted to make, however a call we had to make.

Whilst we are disappointed we believe the health of our wrestlers is paramount and that we should be thinking of tomorrow, not jus t today.

Trent Seven, coming off the back of his show stealing performance against Connor Mills, will now take his place competing against Shingo Takagi.

We thank you for your understanding & hope you will join us in wishing Gabe Kidd a speedy recovery.

Kidd was part of a ten-man steel cage match that took place at New Beginning in Osaka. Bullet Club War Dogs emerged victorious over United Empire in what was Will Ospreay’s final match as a contracted NJPW wrestler. Ospreay will wrestle at High Stakes against Michael Oku.

Will Ospreay set for final independent wrestling match

Before starting full-time with AEW, Will Ospreay will compete for Revolution Pro Wrestling one last time.

Ospreay will wrestle his last RevPro match at High Stakes 2024 on Sunday, February 18. He’s challenging Michael Oku for the RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship.

“We’ve been saying don’t take him for granted for a long time & now this is it,” RevPro wrote. “WILL OSPREAY’S LAST REVPRO MATCH & HE SAYS HE IS LEAVING WITH HIS PROPERTY.”

Ospreay confirmed that this will be his final independent wrestling match.

The match was set up last weekend when Ospreay issued a challenge to Oku at RevPro’s Uprising event.

At High Stakes nearly two years ago, Ospreay defeated Oku in one of the best matches of 2022. That match was rated five stars by Dave Meltzer and placed 10th in our Match of the Year voting.

Oku has been Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion since defeating Great-O-Khan in July 2023. Ospreay held the title from February 2020 to August 2022.

During last month’s Full Gear pay-per-view, it was revealed that Ospreay has signed a multi-year deal with AEW. Ospreay is still under NJPW contract until February 2024.

Ospreay is also set to wrestle for TNA Wrestling at the company’s television tapings in Las Vegas on Sunday, January 14.

RevPro High Stakes 2024 is taking place from Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in London. Former WWE wrestler Mustafa Ali has also been announced for the show, facing Robbie X.
