Chris Jericho attacks Will Ospreay at RevPro’s 11th anniversary event

Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at Saturday’s RevPro event in London.

After Ospreay defeated NJPW’s Shingo Takagi in the main event, Zack Sabre Jr. came out and challenged Ospreay to a match at NJPW”s Royal Quest III event on October 14. It was then that a masked man jumped Ospreay, nailing him with a codebreaker. Jericho eventually revealed himself under the mask to close out the show.

Jericho and Ospreay are scheduled to meet at AEW’s All In event on Sunday morning at Wembley Stadium. The two kickstarted their feud earlier this month when Jericho decided against joining Don Callis’ family after he found out that Callis was set to attack him if he had said no. It was then that Ospreay appeared, attacking Jericho to set up their match at Wembley Stadium.

This past week’s Dynamite had a contract signing between the two men. After exchanging words, the two ended up brawling and having to be pulled apart by security.

Other top matches from Saturday’s RevPro show had Michael Oku defeat Trent Seven to retain the Undisputed British Heavyweight title and Alex Windsor defeating Mickie James and Hyan in a three-way to retain the Undisputed British Women’s Championship.

Former NXT UK wrestler Eddie Dennis announces retirement

A former NXT UK wrestler is stepping away from the ring.

Eddie Dennis retired from in-ring competition at Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Revolution Rumble event in London on Sunday. Dennis said going into the show that he would retire if he didn’t win the Revolution Rumble match.

Michael Oku won the Revolution Rumble. Dennis was eliminated by Connor Mills.

Dennis was released by WWE in August 2022. Most of the NXT UK roster was released at that time, with WWE announcing that NXT UK was ending in its current form and would become NXT Europe.

The 37-year-old Dennis was both a wrestler and a manager in NXT UK. He was part of the Symbiosis faction with Primate and T-Bone.

Dennis, who is from Wales, is a former PROGRESS Wrestling World Champion and Tag Team Champion.

PROGRESS tweeted about Dennis’ retirement: “We didn’t want to believe the news, we didn’t think it could be true.  The reality has set in and now we know this is the end. #ThankYouEddie  We will forever party hard with your amazing memories from what you created with us at PROGRESS.”

Before becoming a full-time wrestler, Dennis worked as a math teacher. “It was a risk giving up teaching altogether to pursue my dream,” Dennis told the BBC in 2022. “It was pretty terrifying… I had a very much established a life, my fiancee and I had a mortgage. I was leaving that to go and wrestle independently.”

Will Ospreay out of RevPro Epic Encounter due to kidney infection

Will Ospreay is out of Sunday’s RevPro Epic Encounter event in London due to a kidney infection.

RevPro released a statement on their website this afternoon saying on Thursday Ospreay had developed what initially was thought to be food poisoning. As time went on, he became more ill and was eventually diagnosed with the kidney infection. He was scheduled to face Minoru Suzuki on tomorrow’s show.

“We appreciate that there will be disappointment surrounding this announcement, no one was looking forward to the Suzuki Vs Ospreay contest more than us & we will do everything we can to reschedule it for a later date,” they wrote.

RevPro also said in their statement that Suzuki had arrived in the United Kingdom this afternoon and will still be wrestling on the card.

Ospreay recently returned to action after testing positive for COVID-19, and as a result had to miss Wrestling Dontaku on May 1, where he was scheduled to face Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP United States Championship. He later wrestled at NJPW Capital Collision on May 14, where he lost a four-way for the title in a match that also involved winner Juice Robinson, Tanahashi, and Jon Moxley.

Will Ospreay will defend the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship against Minoru Suzuki at RevPro Epic Encounter on Sunday, May 22.

RevPro announced the match today. Epic Encounter will be held at York Hall in London.

The bout will be Suzuki’s first for RevPro since 2019. Suzuki is a former Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion, having held the title for 105 days in 2018.

Ospreay has held the top RevPro title since defeating Zack Sabre Jr. for the belt in February 2020. He has since defended the title against Kyle Fletcher, Ricky Knight Jr., Doug Williams, Shota Umino, and Michael Oku.

2022 is shaping up to be a busy year for Suzuki, who will embark on a tour of the United States in March and April, including appearances at WrestleCon’s SuperShow, NJPW Lonestar Shootout, Joey Janela’s Spring Break, and Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport over WrestleMania weekend in Dallas, plus GCW shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit, as well as NJPW’s Windy City Riot event in April.

The United Empire has two new members following today’s RevPro High Stakes event.

Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis of Aussie Open joined RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay’s NJPW stable after Ospreay defeated Ricky Knight Jr. to retain the title.

As Ospreay beat Knight down after the match, Shota Umino ran in for the save. Aussie Open and Young Guns then ran in. Ospreay and Aussie Open then beat down Young Guns and Umino to seal Aussie Open’s defection to the United Empire.

Fletcher and Davis join Ospreay, Great-O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Aaron Henare as members of United Empire. Only Cobb and O-Khan are currently competing in NJPW’s main unit due to a variety of pandemic-related travel issues and restrictions. Cobb and O-Khan both won their first G1 Climax 31 tournament matches this weekend.

Bea Priestley, now NXT UK’s Blair Davenport, is a former member of the group. Ospreay turned on her and kicked her out of the group in her NJPW swan song.

Will Ospreay reveals positive COVID-19 test

Will Ospreay is currently suffering mild COVID-19 symptoms.

On Twitter, RevPro announced that he had tested positive despite being fully vaccinated.

“Will Ospreay has tested positive for Covid-19. He is fully vaccinated, only has mild symptoms & is otherwise healthy. He will be following protocols and will be out of this weekend’s shows. He is still expected to be able to compete at September 19th’s High Stakes,” RevPro’s statement reads.

“I’m sure I’ll be back in no time so other than that, I hope everyone is well,” Ospreay said in a video. “I can’t go to the RevPro shows this weekend, so unfortunately, you’ll have to deal with only really good wrestling, not the best wrestling, because the best wrestler is currently battling COVID. I’m going to beat COVID and why? Because I am on another level.”

Ospreay recently returned after four months due to a neck injury, appearing at NJPW’s Resurgence event last month. He was scheduled to team with The Young Guns to take on Brendan White, Doug Williams, and RKJ at RPW’s Live at the Cockpit 53 event on Sunday.

Will Ospreay vs. Doug Williams set for RevPro 9 Year Anniversary

A British Heavyweight title match between Will Ospreay and Doug Williams has been announced for this weekend’s RevPro event.

Ospreay on Twitter posted a picture of the match graphic, writing “Lamb to the slaughter. Come watch Doug’s 2nd retirement match. I’m bringing both belts”. The show will take place at the Manchester Victoria Warehouse in England on August 21.

The news comes as Ospreay made a surprise appearance at NJPW Resurgence this past weekend, declaring that after four months of inactivity due to a neck injury, he was medically cleared. He said he would be staying in New Japan Strong, taking out the IWGP World Heavyweight title he never lost. He said that current champion Shingo Takagi was an interim champion and he would defend his own title going forward.

Ospreay also considers himself the current British Heavyweight Champion, the top title in RevPro. He hasn’t appeared on a RevPro card since November of 2020. Ricky Knight Jr. was awarded the title back in July due to Ospreay’s neck injury.

Williams originally retired back in 2018. However, back in March, Williams announced his return to wrestling, competing for the likes of RevPro and ICW.

Following that match, Ospreay was able to score the win over Sabre in an elimination match featuring members of CHAOS and Suzuki-gun on the February 4 Road to New Beginning show. Ospreay then challenged Sabre to a match at High Stakes on Twitter, saying the win was proof that he could pin Sabre’s shoulders.
