A match for the Strong Tag Team titles has been made for next month’s Battle in the Valley.
The Motor City Machine Guns will defend the titles against World Class Wrecking Crew (Jorel Nelson and Royce Issacs). WCWC confronted the champions backstage on a recent episode of NJPW Strong, asking for a tag team title match on February 18 in San Jose. Alex Shelley said they’ll sign the contract, saying that the WCWC aren’t going to realize their goals through the Motor City Machine Guns.
Additionally, an eight-man tag team match has been added to the card. Rocky Romero will team with Mascara Dorada, Josh Alexander, and Adrian Quest to take on Volador Jr., The DKC, and Kevin Knight. It was Romero who defeated Volador Jr. for the NWA Historic Welterweight title this past weekend at a CMLL event.

NJPW Battle in the Valley pre-show, Saturday, February 18, 9:20 p.m. Eastern time, free on YouTube and FITE TV —
C4 is a younger team from DEFY Wrestling based in the Pacific Northwest who have actually squared off with WCWC in DEFY over the years. There were some nice chants going for C4 early on.
On commentary, Kevin Kelly shouted out Jim Valley of F4W, who also happens to take on announce duties at DEFY from time to time.
There was a point in this match where Isaacs, who was outside the ring, hoisted Chhun up in the air with a stalling vertical suplex and proceeded to walk with Chuun around the ring before dropping him on the floor, and in stereo with Nelson to boot. Nelson used a stalling vertical suplex of his own on Rosas and synched the slam with Isaacs’ on the floor.
Nelson lifted Chhun up into a power bomb hold and looked like he was about to pass Chhun off to Nelson, as the Wrecking Crew is known for their creative tag team offense. Instead, Chhun countered with a hurricanrana, which sent Nelson flying into Isaacs with an inadvertent spear. Chhun tagged out to Rosas, and the two hit an assisted Liger bomb on Nelson for two. Rosas got fired up and shook the ropes like Ultimate Warrior. Chhun hit a backspring cutter before diving out of the ring with a tope.
Nelson caught Chhun with a fisherman’s buster for two. Isaacs later put Chhun down with a dominator before Nelson came off the top rope and hit Chhun with a diving elbow drop. Isaacs was the legal man, so he pinned Chhun to pick up the three-count for WCWC.
KENTA defeated QT Marshall
This was good, and it sounded to be a real crowd-pleaser of a match. The crowd was loud in their support of KENTA in his debut at The Vermont Hollywood. They relished KENTA’s heelish antics, like cheap-shotting QT Marshall in the face with a slap coming off a rope break. Marshall was basically doing Heel 101 and delivered. He was perfect in giving the crowd everything they *didn’t* want from this match.
After almost five minutes of ring introductions and general jaw-jacking, the match was finally underway. It was a total “KENTA fan service” match in that he got dozens of moments to shine and do his signature spots. It was exactly the kind of match a fan should expect.
In the end, KENTA hit Go 2 Sleep on Marshall for the win. He basked in the “KENTA!” calls before heading to the back. This was a good one.
STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship Match: Motor City Machine Guns (c) defeated Roppongi Vice
Sabin and Beretta kicked things off. After a nice exchange, Sabin offered Beretta a sportsman-like hug, then quickly turned it into a sneaky school boy cradle for two. Sabin then walked over to his corner and hugged Shelley before tagging him in. Beretta would also tag Romero into the match.
Romero and Shelley would later have a short dance-off which saw Shelley bust out a bit of the “Ravishing” Rick Rude hip swirl. It was all a ploy from Romero, though, the self-proclaimed “King of Sneaky Style”. We should have known. While in mid-swivel, Rocky tripped Shelley up and slapped on an ankle hold.
MCMG played heel to Roppongi Vice’s hometown babyface. They wrestled with a bit of an edge, more so than usual.
Beretta was able to swing the momentum back his way and trapped Sabin in the corner and began chopping him. This was right before he’d spike Sabin with a jumping piledriver for two. Beretta went for another piledriver on the apron, but Sabin back body dropped him onto the apron instead, where Beretta would ultimately crash onto the floor.
“Come on, you son of a bitch!” Shelley shouted at Romero. The two started decking each other. MCMG would later catch Beretta with a double superkick to the head while he stood on the floor. When MCMG went for a dive, Roppongi Vice blocked it with a double jumping knee. They hit Strong Zero on Sabin for two. Sabin landed a power bomb for two. He caught Beretta with a huge kick to the face in the corner. MCMG landed a power bomb/sliced bread double team maneuver from the top on Beretta but again, only for two. They did Roppongi’s Dudebuster + dropkick combo finish and *again* a count of two. The crowd was chanting “RO-PON-GI!” over and over.
The finish saw MCMG hit their finisher on Romero for the pinfall in 18:12. As one would imagine, this was a very good match. The Machine Guns retain their tag titles.
Final thoughts:
It was one more solid episode of Strong tonight, with a lot of tag team action plus a really good story match between KENTA and QT Marshall. The main event between MCMG and Roppongi Vice stole the show, though.
Tonight saw the next set of Detonation tapings from Hollywood, California.
Bateman of Stray Dog Army appeared at the top of the show with Ian Riccaboni & Alex Koslov. He talked about his match on the show against newcomer Jakob Austin Young. Bateman mentioned that the two had wrestled long ago, and that tonight he’d be checking to see how much “love” is in Austin’s violence these days.
Bateman defeated Jakob Austin Young
Bateman bullied Young for a long while until Austin connected with a leg lariat after a few minutes. The crowd then got behind Bateman, the heel, chanting “Let’s go Bateman” when Austin would get in any offense. Young hit a back suplex for a count of two. In the end, Bateman put Young away with a tombstone piledriver for the win.
KENTA defeated Bad Dude Tito
This was good. KENTA got a great reaction on his way to the ring. Early on, Tito bullied KENTA, knocking him off his feet with shoulder blocks and shouting things like “You’re too small!!” and “Too much power!!”
Throughout the match, KENTA targeted Tito’s knees and worked them over for a good while. Later, he smashed Tito with big kicks to his chest. Tito would return with a short kick to KENTA’s breadbasket followed by a nice spinning enzuigiri to the back of the head. KENTA would take Tito off his feet again with a dragon screw leg whip, then blast him with a big basement dropkick in the corner, Shibata-style.
When KENTA went for the GTS, Tito reversed it into a Blue Thunder for two. The finish saw KENTA grab the ref while Tito held him in a fireman’s carry. He used this moment to slip out of Tito’s clutch, and then, behind the ref’s back, kicked Tito in the groin then cradled him for the hollow victory. I’d love to see another one between these two next year.
Emily Mae interviewed STRONG Openweight Champion Fred Rosser and talked about his upcoming title defense against JR Kratos, who didn’t reveal his full gameplan, though he did mention that he was planning to run Kratos’ gas tank down to empty. They’ll face off in the main event on next week’s episode.
STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship: Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) (c) defeated Stray Dog Army (Barrett Brown & Misterioso)
Motor City Machine Guns, the second tag team champions, took on Stray Dog Army, who recently won their number-one contender match to earn their title shot this week.
After about five minutes, the Stray Dog Army took control. Brown finally tagged out to Misterioso, who quickly dove onto Sabin on the floor then hit a slingshot double-knee drop onto Shelley in the ring. Later, Stray Dog Army double-teamed Shelley, with Brown connecting with a basement dropkick before Misterioso used a quebrada in the ring for two.
When Misterioso went for a second-rope moonsault, Shelley got his knees up and Misterioso crashed into them. Shelley tagged Sabin in and Misterioso tagged Brown. Sabin caught Brown with a huge tornado DDT for two. They did an assisted flatliner to Brown for another close nearfall.
Brown did a dive onto MCMG onto the floor and Misterioso followed up with a big Asai moonsault. He followed up back in the ring with a guillotine legdrop onto Sabin for two.
In the end, MCMG put Brown away with the Dirty Bomb in 12:11 to pick up the win and successfully retain their tag titles.
Final thoughts:
This was a short but solid episode of Strong, with KENTA and Bad Dude Tito and the main event tag match being the highlights of the show this week.
The next set of matches from Detonation will air next week and features Fred Rosser defending his STRONG Openweight championship against Team Filthy’s JR Kratos.
With the win, Sabin and Alex Shelley join FTR as multi-promotional tag team champions as they also hold the NJPW Strong Tag Team titles. The victory gives them their third Impact Tag Team title reign and their first since the summer of 2020.
Conversely, Heath & Rhino had a short first reign after winning the gold in November by defeating The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett).
The champions now await their first title defense which is assumed to be set for January’s Hard to Kill. It appears it could be against the Major Players as they attacked Shelley & Sabin backstage:
The Openweight Tag Team titles will be on the line on Saturday’s NJPW Strong Detonation episode.
In the show’s main event, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley of the Motor City Machine Guns will defend their NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship against Barrett Brown and Misterioso of the Stray Dog Army. The Machine Guns captured the Tag titles at Rumble on 44th Street in October.
KENTA is also set for singles action on Saturday’s show, facing Bad Dude Tito.
In Saturday’s opener, Stray Dog Army’s Bateman will face Jakob Austin Young.
Strong’s Detonation episodes were taped Sunday, November 20 in Los Angeles at the Vermont Hollywood.

But Aussie Open said The Motor City Machine Guns are first in line for a title shot. Aussie Open proposed a three-way title match for Rumble on 44th Street. It will be Aussie Open vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Knight & The DKC.
Motor City Machine Guns getting a shot at the titles was set up when they defeated Aussie Open in a non-title match on Impact Wrestling last month. Aussie Open said they’re desperate to avenge that loss.

The Motor City Machine Guns are heading to AEW for All Out.
AEW announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite episode that MCMG’s Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin will team with Jay Lethal against FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler in a trios bout at All Out on Sunday, September 4.
It had been suggested when this trios bout was originally announced that FTR and Wardlow would take on Lethal, Satnam Singh, and Sonjay Dutt, with the challenge being issued on last week’s Dynamite.
Impact Wrestling has announced two more matches for Lone Star Stampede.
The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) will take place on Friday’s show. Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley will then face The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) on the second night of the upcoming television tapings.

KUSHIDA’s debut, plus the Motor City Machine Guns facing off have been announced for next week’s Impact Derby City Rumble television taping.
Impact announced on Thursday that NJPW’s KUSHIDA will make his debut for the promotion at the Derby City Rumble taping in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16. Also announced for Louisville, the Motor City Machine Guns will square off in a singles match, as Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin go head-to-head.
KUSHIDA has been announced for both days of the TV taping, while Shelley vs. Sabin was specifically announced for the Friday, July 15 event.
KUSHIDA recently returned to NJPW after a stint with WWE as a member of the NXT brand. The six-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion left WWE following his contract expiring in April after a three-year run with the company.
Impact World Champion Josh Alexander, Sami Callihan, Eddie Edwards, Tasha Steelz, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson, Ace Austin, and Matt Cardona have also been advertised for appearances at next week’s events.
AEW World Champion Kenny Omega will reunite with two of his former Bullet Club stablemates as he makes his Impact Wrestling in-ring debut next month.
It was announced at the end of tonight’s episode of Impact that Omega & Impact Tag Team Champions The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) will face Impact World Champion Rich Swann & The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) at Impact Wrestling’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view. The PPV is taking place on Saturday, January 16.
Throughout tonight’s Impact, Omega met with Anderson, hyping him up for his match against Sabin in the main event. Anderson proceeded to defeat Sabin after rolling him up, grabbing his tights. Omega and Don Callis, who were seen watching the match on a nearby bus, celebrated Anderson’s win.
The closing segment of the show saw Swann confront Anderson backstage about the finish. Gallows, who had been out injured, then returned and attacked Swann and The Motor City Machine Guns, who had come in to make the save.
It was here that Omega arrived, taking out Swann with a caution sign. Omega taunted Swann, telling Callis to show Swann the AEW World Championship title belt. Callis said it was the real World Champion’s belt. Omega then proposed the six-man tag team match for Hard to Kill and Callis made it official.
The finals of the Impact Knockouts Tag Team title tournament will also be held at Hard to Kill. Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan advanced to the finals tonight, defeating Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie. The winners of the Havok & Neaveh vs. Jordynne Grace & Jazz semifinal match will meet Steelz & Hogan in the finals.
The Impact Tag Team and Knockouts titles changed hands tonight at Bound for Glory.
Su Yung won the Knockouts championship for the second time from Deonna Purrazzo after hitting the panic switch in a back and forth match. The match was originally advertised as Kylie Rae vs. Purrazzo. Before the match, Purrazzo cut a promo saying that Rae had no showed and issued an open challenge, which Yung accepted. No one, including the announcers, discussed Rae’s status.
Purazzo held the title for 98 days, defeating Jordynne Grace at Slammiversary on July 18.
The North regained the Impact Tag Team titles, defeating the Motor City Machine Guns, Gallows & Anderson, and Ace Austin and Mad Man Fulton in a four way match.
As the Machine Guns made their entrance, The North jumped the team, with Josh Alexander laying out Alex Shelley with a piledriver on the entrance stage, taking him out of the match. Sabin opted to wrestle on his own.
The finish had Anderson rolling up Alexander, but Alexander kicked out, sending Anderson into the ropes. Page took one of the titles and smashed it into Anderson, allowing Alexander to cover for the win.
MCMG won the titles for the second time on the July 19, 2020 Impact tapings, defeating The North, who previously held them for 380 days.
Opening video was a combined recap of both last week’s Impact episode and Victory Road this past weekend. It particularly focused on the ongoing tag team four-way feud surrounding the tag team titles and the Eric Young vs. Eddie Edwards title match.
Tommy Dreamer defeated Brian Myers by DQ
Dreamer got the advantage early on, spilling the match to the floor for a couple of minutes until Dreamer accidentally chopped the ring post, giving Myers the opening to suplex Dreamer on the ramp for the countout tease.
Now in control, Myers worked over Dreamer’s back and neck. Dreamer had a couple of small comebacks but kept getting cut off by Myers at each attempt.
Dreamer eventually caught Myers with a desperation powerslam to stop the momentum. Dreamer hit a cutter for a two count. Myers came back with a sky high for a near fall too.
Dreamer dodged a top rope elbow from Myers, and hit a DDT for a near fall. Myers paid it back, dodging an elbow from Dreamer, and also hit a DDT for a two count.
Myers got a kendo stick, but Dreamer got ahold of it. He stopped himself before he could use it. Myers took the kendo stick and attacked Dreamer for the DQ.
After the match, Myers kept attacking Dreamer with the kendo stick until D’Amore and security came out to stop him. Not as good as the Victory Road match and it’s only going to get worse with weapons.
– Josh Matthews and Madison Rayne ran down tonight’s card, plus an update on the current Bound For Glory card.
– We saw Moose roam around the arena looking for the TNA World Championship belt that is scheduled to be destroyed tonight by ECIII.
– Backstage, John E. Bravo told his groomsmen that he needed them all to chip in for the wedding. Fallah Bahh took on the responsibility to get money. The Deaners, Swinger, and Crazzy Steve all argued about who owed money to who.
Rohit Raju came to the ring and called out anyone that wanted to answer the “Defeat Rohit” challenge. Willie Mack came out, but Raju told him that he already had an opportunity at Victory Road and he had failed to win. Raju asked for new competition and Jordynne Grace came out.
Jordynne Grace defeated X-Division Champion Rohit Raju in a non-title match
Raju stalled as much as he could, not wanting to give the title belt to the referee. In that distraction, Grace rolled up Raju with the O’Connor roll for the win.
Grace thought she had won the title, but the referee announced that since he wasn’t given the title to raise and announce the match as a title match, the title had not been under contest and thus Raju was still the champion. I got excited for Grace as the X-Division champion, but they got me. Grace has a win over the champion, hopefully it leads to a proper title match.
D’Amore waited for Raju at Gorilla position and told him that since he was a great fighting champion, he’d be defending the championship against Willie Mack, TJP, Trey Miguel, Chris Bey, and Jordynne Grace at Bound For Glory.
– Fallah Bahh challenged Hernandez for another arm wrestling match to get the money for Bravo’s wedding. Bahh ended up spilling coffee all over Hernandez.
The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz) defeated XXXL (Acey Romero & Larry D)
Romero and D jumped The Rascalz during their entrance, eliminating Wentz so they could double team Xavier, stretching and dropping him with a big powerbomb.
XXXL kept Xavier away from his corner with quick tags, strikes, and a couple of power moves. D at one point hit a military press slam into a kick for a two count.
Xavier eventually kicked himself away from D to get the tag to Wentz, who came in with a series of dropkicks to drop D and earn a two count with running shooting star press. He quickly transitioned to a sleeper for the submission attempt. The Rascalz double teamed D when he wouldn’t submit.
Finish saw Romero accidentally lariat D, who was then superkicked by Wentz. Rascalz hit hot fire flame on D for the win. Good, short match.
– We were back with Bahh, who successfully tricked Hernandez into taking a shower to get the coffee off. Bahh managed to steal the money away from Hernandez.
– Jimmy Jacobs interviewed both Dr. Foreman and Rich Swann about Swann’s rehab. Dr. Foreman said that Swann was not only good for BFG, but he was cleared as of today. Suddenly, Eric Young, dressed as a nurse, attacked Swann from behind and went after his recently recovered leg with a kettlebell. Dr. Foreman called for the cops, bless his heart.
– Gia Miller interviewed the Motor City Machine Guns. Shelley said that tonight they’re wrestling Ace Austin and Madman Fulton. They put over Austin’s ability before The Good Brothers interrupted them.
Anderson bragged about being undefeated on Impact, so Shelley responded that they were the better team and thus they were the champions. Gallows told them that they would make sure that they’d take care of them tonight because they wanted to make sure the champions made it to Bound For Glory safe and sound.
Valkyrie and Hogan started the match for their teams, with the former dominating the latter with her power advantage, tossing her from corner to corner. Taya hit her running hip attack and double knee for an early pin attempt.
Rosemary and Steelz tagged in, and once again, the power disadvantage was too much for Steelz, who was just punished from turnbuckle to turnbuckle. It wasn’t until Rosemary locked in the upside down that Hogan kicked Rosemary off the ropes and they successfully turned the match around.
Steelz and Hogan used their speed to keep Rosemary down and Taya off the apron. They got a couple of double team moves and near falls before Rosemary managed to hit Steelz with a backplex out of desperation, but it was enough to tag in Taya.
Valkyrie ran wild on both Hogan and Steelz, getting a two count with a blue thunder bomb on Hogan. She transitioned to a curb stomp and into a STF.
Finish saw Rosemary take out Hogan with a German suplex, but ate a codebreaker from Steelz. When Steelz went to take out Taya, Rosemary got her with a spear and hit standing butterfly bomb for the win. Pretty good match.
All throughout the match, we got the visual of Havok and Nevaeh watching the match in the back.
The Deaners (Cody Deaner & Cousin Jake) defeated Johnny Swinger & Crazzy Steve
Before the wrestling started, the Deaners offered a beer to Crazzy Steve, who drank some and then shared with his monkey puppet. Swinger had to tell him to take the match seriously.
The story of the match was that Swinger couldn’t get Crazzy Steve to secretly hand him the weapons from his gimmick bag, and instead was exposing everything Swinger had to the referee. Fed up, Swinger tried to use the monkey as a weapon, Steve took it away, and so Deaner took advantage, hit a DDT and won.
– We got a recap of Deonna Purrazzo breaking Susie’s arm at Victory Road after she had successfully defended the championship.
Afterwards, Miller interviewed Kylie Rae, who was distraught for not being able to do anything to save Susie. Kimber Lee interrupted Rae and teased her that she should be worried because she would suffer the same fate at Bound For Glory. Rae had enough and jumped Lee, attacking her to the point that Rae herself felt that she had gone too far with the attack.
– D’Amore met with Heath about offering him an Impact contract. Heath thanked D’Amore for the opportunity. D’Amore said that he wanted to write an offer, but Heath jumped ahead and gave D’Amore a proposal instead. Heath asked for more than D’Amore could offer, so they went back and forth on whether Heath had even earned anything. The discussion got the point that D’Amore just straight threw Heath’s papers to the air, rejecting any proposal.
Outside the office, Heath berated Rhino for telling him to reject the WWE offer he had after that RAW with McIntyre to instead join Impact as now he was left with nothing. Interesting development.
– ECIII cut a promo to Moose telling him that it was too late and that Moose had to break his attachment to the past and material possessions. ECIII threw the TNA title belt to the river saying ‘Free Moose’.
– Ken Shamrock was having second thoughts about attacking Eddie Edwards, but Sami Callihan hyped him up telling him that his attack was trending and that he was going to become the old Shamrock. Callihan got Shamrock to rage up and attack an innocent passerby.
– Matthews and Rayne announced the matches for next week, including Hogan & Steelz vs Havok & Nevaeh vs Taya & Rosemary, Kylie Rae vs Kimber Lee, Fulton vs Gallows, and an update on Rich Swann.
Impact Tag Team Champions Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) defeated Ace Austin & Madman Fulton in a non-title match
Sabin and Austin started the match with a series of counters and reversals for wrist control, quickly transitioning into both men exchanging dropkicks before Shelley tagged in.
Shelley and Sabin kept control of the match, working over Austin’s arm with quick attacks and double teams.
After some time being away from his corner, Austin managed to get Shelley’s back and fall to his own corner where Fulton was jumping to get in. Fulton went straight for Shelley, got him with snake eyes and a big boot to turn the match around.
Fulton’s attack consisted of ramming Shelley’s head to the turnbuckle over and over and over. Fulton and Austin hit a side slam and leg drop combo for a two count before Austin did his paper cut trick. They kept working over Shelley’s arm until he managed to trick Austin into hitting Fulton accidentally, and with that distraction, Shelley tagged out.
Sabin got the hot tag and went straight for Austin’s arm and neck, but Austin managed to tag in Fulton, who they sent to the floor immediately.
MCMG tried to double team Austin, but Fulton saved him, so instead they double teamed Fulton for a two count when Austin interrupted the pin with a splash. They hit the reverse STF into a dropkick combo on Austin and went to finish Fulton, but Fulton reversed and hit a double suplex.
Suddenly, The North came out with chairs to attack, but the Good Brothers jumped them before they could. Amidst the chaos, Gallows hit Fulton with an uppercut, giving Shelley and Sabin the opening to hit skull and bones for the win. Great main event.
All four teams eyed each other as the show went off the air.
Final thoughts —
Overall a good show, easy to watch and enjoyable. They properly used all the fallout of Victory Road to add some fuel to the BFG stories.
Impact Wrestling’s Tag Team titles will be on the line in a four-way match at Bound for Glory.

On this week’s episode of Impact, Gallows & Anderson challenged The Motor City Machine Guns to a title match at Bound for Glory.
