Impact holding tournament to decide next Tag Team title challengers

A tournament will determine the next challengers for Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster’s Impact Tag Team titles.

The tournament is set to feature four teams: The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz), Mike Bailey & Jonathan Gresham, Rich Swann & Sami Callihan, and ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey). It begins with The Rascalz vs. Bailey & Gresham airing on Impact this Thursday night.

The team that wins the tournament will get their Tag Team title shot at Impact Emergence on Sunday, August 27. Emergence is airing live on Impact Plus, Impact’s Ultimate Insiders YouTube service, and Fite TV.

Andrews & Webster became the Impact Tag Team Champions at Slammiversary last month, winning the titles in a four-way match. Austin & Bey were the champions heading into Slammiversary. Interference by The Rascalz led to Austin & Bey being unable to retain the titles.

Swann & Callihan and Moose & Brian Myers were the other teams involved in the four-way match at Slammiversary

The Rascalz also interfered when Andrews & Webster retained their Tag Team titles against Austin & Bey on Impact two weeks ago.

Motor City Machine Guns regain Impact Tag Team titles

The Motor City Machine Guns are now three-time Impact Tag Team Champions after defeating Heath & Rhino on Thursday’s edition of Impact on AXS.

The end came when Chris Sabin survived a Rhino gore and later jumped over a second attempt, getting the pin off a sunset flip to give them the win.

The Major Players were banned from ringside after interfering in last week’s title match between the same two teams.

With the win, Sabin and Alex Shelley join FTR as multi-promotional tag team champions as they also hold the NJPW Strong Tag Team titles. The victory gives them their third Impact Tag Team title reign and their first since the summer of 2020.

Conversely, Heath & Rhino had a short first reign after winning the gold in November by defeating The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett).

The champions now await their first title defense which is assumed to be set for January’s Hard to Kill. It appears it could be against the Major Players as they attacked Shelley & Sabin backstage:

The Good Brothers win Impact World Tag Team titles at Slammiversary

The Impact World Tag Team titles changed hands at tonight’s Slammiversary event.

The Good Brothers defeated The Briscoes to win the titles for a third time. Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson regained the titles after Anderson pinned Jay Briscoe following the Magic Killer.

After the match, both teams had a staredown until America’s Most Wanted’s music hit. James Storm and Chris Harris, the former six time NWA Tag Team Champions, came to the ring. Storm cut a promo praising Impact Wrestling and tag team wrestling. All three teams toasted one another as the segment ended.

The Briscoes end their run as champions after 43 days. They had defeated Violent By Design back on May 7 at Impact’s Under Siege event in Newport, Kentucky.

Other title changes that have taken place tonight include Speedball Mike Bailey winning the X Division title and the team of Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie defeating Tenille Dashwood & Madison Rayne to win the Knockouts Tag Team titles.

Violent By Design win Impact Wrestling Tag Team titles

Even though they weren’t scheduled to even have a match Thursday, Violent By Design’s Rhino and Joe Doering ended the night as the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions.

Following FinJuice’s successful title defense over Ace Austin and Madman Fulton in the night’s main event, the VBD faction hit the ring and cashed in Rhino’s Call Your Shot trophy which gives him the ability to challenge for any title.

What followed was a squash as Doering ran through both men, leveling Robinson after a lariat clothesline for the pin, giving he and Rhino the gold. This is the first Impact title for either man.

David Finlay and Juice Robinson had talked earlier in the evening after how they were leaving for Japan soon and were planning on taking the titles with them. They had defeated the Good Brothers for the belts at March’s Sacrifice. They defended the titles twice in their short reign, defeating Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson in a rematch before beating Austin and Fulton Thursday.

Three title matches added to Impact Wrestling’s Sacrifice

Three title matches were announced Tuesday for March 13th’s Sacrifice on Impact Plus.

A match for the Tag Team titles was announced as The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson) will defend against New Japan Pro Wrestling’s David Finlay and Juice Robinson, aka FinJuice.

The two teams have traded exchanges in the last few weeks. On this week’s Impact, the two teams defeated XXXL (Larry D and Acey Romero) and Reno Scum (Luster The Legend and Adam Thornstowe) in an eight-man tag. The winners all had a staredown afterward.

The X-Division title will be on the line as TJP will defend against former champion Ace Austin. Austin defeated Black Taurus and Chris Bey in a number one contenders three way Tuesday. Austin later confronted TJP backstage, which then led to Chris Bey appearing and challenging Austin for a match on next week’s Impact.

Finally, ODB will challenge Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo. Tuesday’s show ended with ODB attacking the champion for her attack on ODB backstage last week. The Impact veteran made it clear as the show was going off the air that she wanted a title match.

Here is the current card for Sacrifice:

  • Impact World Champion Rich Swann vs. TNA Champion Moose
  • Knockouts Tag Team Champions Fire ‘N Flava vs. Jordynne Grace and Jazz
  • Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo vs. ODB
  • Impact Tag Team Champions Good Brothers vs. David Finlay and Juice Robinson
  • X-Divison Champion TJP vs. Ace Austin
