Middleweight title match set for Eric Bischoff’s MLW One-Shot

A new match has been announced for MLW One Shot.

MLW World Middleweight Champion Mistico will defend his title against Trevor Lee on the show.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Melrose Ballroom in New York. It will air live on YouTube and revolve around Eric Bischoff’s MLW debut and him having “total control” of the matchmaking.

“For Eric Bischoff, the legendary figure who introduced luchadores to American audiences in the 1990s, the opportunity to spotlight Místico—Mexico’s biggest box office star of the 21st century—is one he couldn’t resist,” reads an MLW press release for the match.

Mistico defeated Rocky Romero in February to win the MLW Middleweight title. He’s defended it five times since then in CMLL and MLW.

Eric Bischoff’s MLW One Shot announced lineup for December 5, 2024 —

  • Matt Riddle vs. Donovan Dijak
  • MLW World Middleweight Champion Mistico defends against Trevor Lee

Also booked for the show: Satoshi Kojima, CONTRA Unit, Minoru Suzuki, AKIRA, Alex Kane and the Bomaye Fight Club, Matthew Justice, Tom Lawlor, Okumura, Janai Kai, Delmi Exo, and The Andersons (CW Anderson & Brock Anderson).

Riddle vs. Dijak set for Eric Bischoff’s MLW One-Shot

The first match has been announced for One-Shot 2024, a show that’s being built around Eric Bischoff’s MLW debut.

Former WWE wrestlers Matt Riddle and Donovan Dijak will face off at the Thursday, December 5 One-Shot event in New York City. Airing live on MLW’s YouTube channel, MLW is billing that Bischoff will serve as executive producer for one night only and will have “total control” of the matchmaking.

Riddle was released by WWE in September 2023, while Dijak departed WWE earlier this year when his contract was not renewed. Both are looking to become World Heavyweight Champion in MLW. The championship is currently held by Satoshi Kojima — and Riddle is owed a future title shot as the winner of MLW Battle Riot 2024. Dijak could also be in line for a title shot if he’s able to defeat Riddle.

Kojima will be in action at One-Shot but an opponent for him has not been revealed yet.

Melrose Ballroom in Queens will be the venue for One-Shot. The YouTube broadcast has a start time of 9 p.m. Eastern.

Eric Bischoff coming to MLW for One-Shot event

Eric Bischoff is coming to MLW for an event in New York City this December.

Touting that he will have creative control for one night only, MLW has announced Bischoff for their One-Shot show in Queens on Thursday, December 5. MLW is hyping that this is Bischoff promoting a show in “enemy territory” after going against the Northeast-based WWE while leading WCW during the Monday Night Wars.

The news was made official after actor/wrestler Paul Walter Hauser invited Bischoff to MLW during an appearance on his Wise Choices podcast.

“Bischoff will have total control over MLW for one night only. From matchmaking to the TV trucks, Bischoff will oversee the event in his vision,” the promotion wrote. “The unique opportunity for Bischoff to call the shots came about during a recent episode of Bischoff’s YouTube show, Wise Choices, where he was joined by MLW’s Paul Walter Hauser. When asked what he would do if he had one more chance to run a wrestling show his way, Hauser seized the moment, calling MLW owner Court Bauer live on the air to pitch the concept. Bauer gave an enthusiastic YES.”

One-Shot 2024 is being held at the Melrose Ballroom on December 5 and will air live for free on MLW’s YouTube channel. No matches have been announced for the show yet.

This will be Bischoff’s first-ever appearance for MLW. He previously had a show on the MLW Radio network.

MLW announced the news on Tuesday, writing, “The stakes couldn’t be higher as Janai Kai, the reigning MLW Women’s World Featherweight Champion and member of CONTRA, faces the challenge of not one, but two of CMLL’s finest luchadoras, Lluvia and Persephone, in a triple threat, one-fall-to-a-finish title fight.”

The event takes place on Saturday, November 9, at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois.

MLW cancels Florida show due to Hurricane Helene

The effects of Hurricane Helene in St. Petersburg, Florida, have prompted MLW to cancel a show scheduled for next weekend.

MLW was set to put on their annual Slaughterhouse show next Friday, October 4th at the Coliseum, but opted not to given the massive amount of flooding currently in the city.

There is no rescheduled date for the show, and ticket buyers will get a full refund.

“The safety of our staff, talent, crew, and fans in the Tampa/St Pete area is our top priority, and we believe this is the most responsible course of action given the current conditions,” MLW stated.

It’s not the only wrestling promotion forced to change things up as TNA Wrestling bumped two TV taping dates in Spartanburg, South Carolina, this weekend due to the storm, choosing to run on Sunday and Monday vs. Friday and Saturday instead.

WWE is set to run Saturday in Columbus, Georgia. As of this writing, the show is still on.

  • All six episodes of the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries are available to stream on Netflix starting today. Dave Meltzer spoke with TV Insider about the series.
  • Fightful reports that many people within the industry are of the belief that AJ Styles’ WWE contract is slated to expire either later this year or in early 2025.
  • During an appearance on Ringer Wrestling Worldwide, Trick Williams praised how CM Punk has helped NXT talent:
    • Man, honestly, CM Punk has been great to us here at NXT. As you know, we’ve got athletes from all over, all different backgrounds… we’ve got a little bit of everything here at NXT. And CM Punk has found a way to be able to be helpful to us all. Not just me, but all of us. We sit down and we take the knowledge, man. And we learn from CM Punk. The fact that he’s special guest referee [for Ethan Page vs. Williams] when we go to Chicago October 1 is huge for us. I’m super excited about it. I know he’s going to call it down the middle.
  • Adnan Virk, who had a brief stint as a WWE commentator in 2021, told Sports Media with Richard Deitsch that he thinks Joe Tessitore has done a great job since joining the Raw commentary team:
    • I wish I had more time to watch… But I think he’s done great and I’m with you, I’m like, that’s a very tough audience as you know. They’re very tough to impress. So if you can come in and let’s say, 60 percent of them like Tess, that is a resounding victory and I’m sure that number is higher but, it’ll only grow because again, people… eventually, they’ll understand Tess and his cadence and like I said, the fact that he’s passionate about it and he knows it and he’s a hell of an announcer. Like I said, I think Michael Cole is outstanding. But I’m sure Tess at some point can reach those levels as well and it’s obviously a great hire for Nick [Khan].

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • AEW has a Road To video hyping up tonight’s Grand Slam edition of Dynamite.
  • In an interview with Undisputed, Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks looked back on the first All In from 2018:
    • The couple of years leading to All In and the time surrounding the event itself were my favorite ones in wrestling. It was such an exciting time. There was a groundswell of momentum that you could just feel. We really felt like we were making a difference as we went from town to town. The fans who followed our every move matched the passion we had. The feeling I would have after a show, speaking to the audience who would hang on to our every word, made me feel like eternal life was a possibility.
    • All In was a gathering and celebration for all of us misfit wrestlers and wrestling fans who wanted to get together and throw one large party under one roof. It was the closest I’d felt to a religious experience outside of a church. The idea of fitting that many people into one building did seem a bit far-fetched, but the timing for even the possibility was too ideal so we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Besides, at the time, it felt like anything we touched would turn to gold, so maybe it’d work out? Luckily, it did.
  • Jackson believes Kazuchika Okada is a future AEW World Champion:
    • I feel like Okada is definitely a future world champion and it would elevate the title to new heights. Nobody does big matches better than him. Nobody has more aura than him. If I need someone out there who has to follow a four-hour show, I’m sending Okada out there every time.
  • On Busted Open Radio yesterday, Darby Allin used a music reference to compare AEW and WWE:
    • If people are going to compare the two companies – WWE or AEW or whatever – I like to put it as kind of music references. For example, you can say WWE is like the Taylor Swift and AEW is the Slayer. You know what I mean? Taylor Swift can sell more records, but that doesn’t mean that Slayer doesn’t have a huge following.
    • Our brand of music is a little bit more intense and violent, but we don’t have to change anything, you know what I mean? We don’t have to try to sell the same records as a Taylor Swift. We’re kind of in our own world. And that’s what I like to compare the two things to.
  • Willow Nightingale told amNewYork that support from the fans has helped her overcome moments of self-doubt:
    • I think there have been a lot of moments of self-doubt, questioning my own worth. Every time that I do feel those things, the fans and audiences have helped reaffirm the good things that I think or feel. There might be the voice in the back of my head that might say, like, ‘You don’t deserve this, or you’re not good enough,’ but then how am I supposed to argue with like, a wave of support from all these fans.

MLW announces change to Slaughterhouse 2024 match

MLW has announced a change to one of its matches planned for Slaughterhouse 2024.

After announcing yesterday that Donovan Dijak vs. TJP would be taking place at the event, MLW shared an update today revealing that it will now be Dijak vs. Trevor Lee at Slaughterhouse. The show is taking place from The Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Florida on October 4 and will air for free live on MLW’s YouTube channel.

“In a shocking twist ahead of MLW Slaughterhouse on October 4 at the Coliseum, Trevor Lee has stepped up to face the unstoppable force known as Donovan Dijak. Following TJP’s unexpected withdrawal from the match, MLW’s roster was notified of an open contract to fight Dijak,” the promotion wrote. “Wasting no time, a fearless Trevor Lee raced to sign his name, setting the stage for an electrifying debut.”

Dijak and Lee both departed WWE earlier this year. Dijak left the company in June when his contract was not renewed, while Lee (formerly known as Cameron Grimes) was released by WWE back in April.

Lee is making his MLW debut at Slaughterhouse. Dijak arrived in the promotion last month at MLW Summer of the Beasts.

Here’s the updated card for Slaughterhouse:

MLW Slaughterhouse 2024 (Friday, October 4) —

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Satoshi Kojima defends against Ultimo Guerrero
  • MLW Tag Team Champions Minoru Suzuki & Ikuro Kwon defend against Bomaye Fight Club (Alex Kane & Mr. Thomas)

World Heavyweight title match set for MLW Slaughterhouse

NJPW and CMLL legends are set to clash over the MLW World Heavyweight Championship next month.

Satoshi Kojima will defend his World Heavyweight Championship belt against CMLL’s Ultimo Guerrero at MLW Slaughterhouse on Friday, October 4. The show is taking place from The Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Florida and will air live for free on MLW’s YouTube channel.

For more than seven months now, Kojima has held the MLW World title. He had a title defense against Mads Krugger at MLW Fightland this past weekend, but the match ended in a disqualification after Contra Unit interfered and Krugger threw a fireball at Kojima. There was then a post-match angle where Matt Riddle and AKIRA made the save for Kojima.

Kojima celebrated his 54th birthday on the day of Fightland.

Ultimo Guerrero, 52, has only wrestled for MLW once before, losing to Atlantis Jr. in May. MLW posted a video on Sunday with him calling out Kojima for this title match.

JBL makes surprise appearance at MLW Fightland

JBL is everywhere.

The former WWE star made a surprise appearance at Saturday’s MLW Fightland in Atlanta. CW Anderson & Brock Anderson were wrestling the Bomaye Fight Club (Alex Kane & Mr. Thomas) when JBL came out. This time, he took out Mr. Thomas with a punch and then gave him the clothesline from hell. JBL whispered something to Brock Anderson before leaving. Brock then covered Thomas for the win.

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1835141379149775251?

In the last month, JBL has appeared in three other promotions. At AAA’s Triplemania event in Mexico City, he seconded Nic Nemeth to the ring for his match against Alberto El Patron and later shook Patron’s hand after the match. At TNA Emergence, he took out The System’s Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards, then did it again at Friday’s Victory Road event. At GCW Homecoming, he took out Effy with the clothesline from hell.

In the main event of Fightland, Mistico defeated KENTA to win the Opera Cup tournament. They had won their semifinal matches earlier in the show.

Trevor Lee debuting for MLW at Slaughterhouse 2024

Trevor Lee — the former Cameron Grimes in WWE — is coming to MLW soon.

Lee will debut for MLW at Slaughterhouse 2024, the promotion announced today. The event is taking place from the Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Florida on Friday, October 4. An opponent for Lee has not been announced.

This April, the 30-year-old Lee was released from his WWE contract. He was let go around the same time that Jinder Mahal, Xia Li, Veer, Sanga, Xyon Quinn, and Von Wagner were also released from the company. Lee had a successful NXT run while with WWE but was never heavily featured after being called up to the main roster. He has been competing on the indies since his release and is still a free agent.

Former WWE wrestler Donovan Dijak also recently arrived in MLW. Dijak departed WWE in June when his contract was not renewed.

No matches have been made official for Slaughterhouse 2024 yet. The show will air live for free on MLW’s YouTube channel.

MLW books Matt Riddle vs. Tom Lawlor stipulation match

Former UFC fighters Matt Riddle and Tom Lawlor will do battle in a pro wrestling match this weekend.

MLW has announced that Riddle vs. Lawlor will take place on the TV taping portion of the promotion’s Fightland event in Atlanta this Saturday (September 14). It’s a “Vale Tudo rules” match, which MLW hypes as being a no holds barred martial arts-inspired street fight.

“Before MMA was an organized sport, pit fighters would battle in the underground fight world of Brazil in no-rules, no-holds-barred martial arts street fights. They called it Vale Tudo Rules! A dangerous, controversial, and arguably barbaric form of combat sports, Vale Tudo tests the limits of human endurance, skill, and sheer will to survive,” MLW wrote.

“Now MLW brings Vale Tudo to Center Stage in Atlanta, where two of the sport’s most dangerous competitors will collide in a match that harkens back to the true, gritty roots of MMA. Matt Riddle and Tom Lawlor will throw down in a clash that promises to be one of the most unpredictable encounters in MLW history.”

An air date for the match has not been announced. It’s the first one-on-one matchup between Riddle and Lawlor since 2017.

Fightland will include both a live special and TV tapings. The live special is airing for free on MLW’s YouTube channel.

Donovan Dijak to make MLW in-ring debut at Fightland

Former WWE wrestler Donovan Dijak is set for his first MLW match.

Dijak will make his MLW in-ring debut at Fightland 2024, facing off against Timothy Thatcher. The show is being held at Center Stage in Atlanta on Saturday, September 14 and will stream live on MLW’s YouTube channel for free.

Last week, Dijak arrived in MLW by disrupting a scramble match between Jimmy Lloyd, LSG, Little Guido, and Nolo Kitano. He laid out everyone in the match and then cut a promo saying his aim is to become the next MLW World Heavyweight Champion. The belt is currently held by Satoshi Kojima. Dijak also mentioned Thatcher, Matt Riddle, and Minoru Suzuki as targets.

The 37-year-old Dijak is a free agent after departing WWE this June when his contract was not renewed by the company. On June 27, Dijak posted a statement saying he tried to negotiate with WWE, but they never made him an offer. He was informed at the “eleventh hour” that WWE would not be renewing his contract.

Mister Saint Laurent is Dijak’s manager in MLW.

Here’s the updated card for Fightland:

NJPW’s Kevin Knight to make MLW debut

NJPW wrestler Kevin Knight is set to debut for MLW later this month.

At MLW Fightland, Knight will make his debut in a singles match against Bobby Fish. It will be part of the TV taping portion of the event, which is being held at Center Stage in Knight’s hometown of Atlanta on Saturday, September 14.

Knight is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, holding the titles with KUSHIDA. Knight recently teamed with Rocky Romero & YOSHI-HASHI in a victory over Bullet Club War Dogs (David Finlay, Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney) at NJPW Capital Collision.

In MLW, Fish is part of a newly formed stable with The Andersons (Brock Anderson & CW Anderson) and Brett Ryan Gosselin. They laid out Paul London at MLW Summer of the Beasts.

The Andersons made their MLW tag team debut at Summer of the Beasts and are set for action at Fightland, but their opponents have not been announced.

Fightland’s main card will stream live on MLW’s YouTube channel. The show is being headlined by Satoshi Kojima defending his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Mads Krugger.
