CM Punk to team with FTR in AEW Dynamite six-man tag match

CM Punk’s first match as AEW World Champion has been announced for Dynamite.

Tony Khan revealed on Wednesday that Punk will team with FTR to face Max Caster and the Gunn Club on the show. The match comes after Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler came out to celebrate with Punk following his title victory at Double or Nothing.

In an interview with ESPN last week, Punk praised the ROH World Tag Team Champions.

“They’re f—ing artists,” Punk said of FTR. “People who don’t understand pro wrestling will read that and groan. I understand that. But we’re operating on a different level and it’s OK not to understand it. We get it and I appreciate the s— out of both those guys.”

Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite will take place from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The updated lineup for the show is as follows:

  • AEW World Champion CM Punk & ROH World Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. Max Caster & The Gunn Club (Colten & Austin Gunn)
  • Darby Allin, Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, Matt Hardy, and Christian Cage vs. Hikuleo, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and The Young Bucks
  • Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter vs. Ruby Soho & Toni Storm
  • Jon Moxley vs. Daniel Garcia

AEW suffers power failure during Dark: Elevation taping, two matches affected

AEW suffered a power failure during the Dark: Elevation tapings on Wednesday.

Two matches scheduled for the show were unable to be filmed. The problems started during a match between Cheeseburger and Max Caster and continued as Nyla Rose faced Skye Blue.

Our own Dave Meltzer addressed what happened on Wednesdays’ edition of Wrestling Observer Radio

“The entrance and the announcing place all of a sudden went dark,” Meltzer said. “So, they did the match, Max Caster won, and then they did another match that they announced which was Skye Blue and Nyla Rose and they just said, ‘This match is only for you fans in the arena, it will never air.’ Because they couldn’t tape it because they had the power failure, or whatever it was. Luckily, they got the thing fixed by eight o’clock and there was no problem with Dynamite.”

The scheduled Dark: Elevation main event between Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs. Nick Comoroto & QT Marshall was then taped after Dynamite.

Samoa Joe vs. Max Caster Owen Hart Cup qualifier set for AEW Dynamite

Samoa Joe’s in-ring AEW debut is set for this week’s Dynamite.

AEW president Tony Khan announced on Twitter on Tuesday that Joe will face Max Caster in an Owen Hart Foundation men’s tournament qualifier on this week’s Dynamite.

Joe appeared at Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor pay-per-view, saving Jonathan Gresham from an attack at the hands of Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt. Following the event, Khan announced that Joe had signed with AEW.

In a post-show press conference, Joe mentioned the Owen Hart Foundation tournament as the likely first step in his quest for domination in AEW.

This week’s Dynamite takes place at the Agganis Arena in Boston.

The announced lineup so far:

  • Owen Hart Foundation tournament qualifier: Samoa Joe vs. Max Caster
  • Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament qualifiers continue
  • Adam Cole vs. Christian Cage
  • Tables match: The Hardys vs. The Butcher & The Blade
  • ROH World Tag Team Championship & AAA Tag Team Championship: FTR (c) vs. The Young Bucks

John Cena says AEW’s Max Caster is a ‘really, really spectacular’ rapper

John Cena offered praise for AEW star Max Caster in a recent interview.

Speaking to Forbes, Cena praised Caster, saying that he was the better rapper and had no advice for him, as he was doing better than he did during the early part of his WWE career.

“He’s extremely gifted,” Cena said. “I remember hearing him for the first time, and asking a good friend of mine to please pass his information on to me. I immediately checked out his raps, out of the blue, and I saw what he was doing was spectacular. I wish him all the best of luck, but I can’t give him any advice because he’s punching far above my weight class. He is very gifted. He’s gifted enough to rhyme to the beat live, where I kind of did my stuff acapella to let the punchlines sink in.”

“Hip-hop constantly evolves, and it constantly moves forward, and he is the better version of what I did,” Cena added. “He’s really, really spectacular. As long as he keeps everything in realistic perspective, he shows great potential.”

Caster, one half of The Acclaimed along with Anthony Bowens, is known for his rapping before the team enters the ring for their matches. On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, he lost to CM Punk in the opening match of the card, submitting to the anaconda vise following a piledriver.

CM Punk vs. Max Caster, Jon Moxley vs. Jay Lethal announced for AEW Dynamite

AEW has revealed two new matches for Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.

Tony Khan announced on social media that Jon Moxley will face Jay Lethal on the show, also disclosing on a Wednesday Busted Open Radio appearance that CM Punk will go one-on-one with Max Caster.

“I’ve got something I’m very excited about planned for Max Caster tonight on Dynamite. I really like Max Caster and Anthony Bowens, the Acclaimed, very, very much,” Khan said.

Tommy Dreamer then suggested a rap battle between Caster and P.N. News but the AEW president announced a match with Punk instead.

“While I can’t do Max Caster vs. P.N. News, I can do Max Caster vs. CM Punk. I’m going to do it tonight. I can’t wait to see the look on CM Punk’s face when Max Caster freestyles to the ring and says whatever Max Caster is going to say to CM Punk tonight on TBS on Dynamite.”

Khan continued to say that Bowens is currently out with a knee injury. He hasn’t wrestled since March 9, but is not expected to be out long-term.

Khan also announced Jon Moxley vs. Jay Lethal on social media earlier Wednesday morning. He noted that the match will pit a former AEW World Champion against a former Ring of Honor World Champion.

This week’s edition of Dynamite takes place from the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina.

The updated lineup for the show is as follows:

  • CM Punk vs. Max Caster
  • Jon Moxley vs. Jay Lethal
  • Darby Allin (w/Sting) vs. Andrade El Idolo (w/Jose the Assistant)
  • FTR vs. The Gunn Club (w/Billy Gunn)
  • Women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament qualifying match: The Bunny vs. a new AEW signee

Max Caster makes AEW return during Dark: Elevation tapings

Max Caster returned to AEW at tonight’s Dark: Elevation tapings following controversial comments made on a recent episode of Dark.

During tonight’s tapings, which were held prior to Dynamite, Caster helped Acclaimed tag team partner Anthony Bowens defeat Griff Garrison, then helped him to the back after the match. The Acclaimed have been feuding with The Varsity Blonds in recent weeks.

A rap by Caster that aired on the August 3 episode of Dark contained references to Simone Biles and her mental health situation during the Olympics, PCR tests being fake, and a sexual joke on 19-year-old wrestler Julia Hart. This episode of Dark was later taken down and re-uploaded with the rap removed.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan said that it should have been caught in editing and would be overseeing the editing of Dark in the future.

“We deleted the episode and re-posted it with that edited out, but it shouldn’t have aired,” Khan said. “I put such tight controls on Dynamite, and this would never have happened there because Max’s raps, I have always gone over them with him. And, frankly, every segment on Dynamite, I don’t script or write wrestlers’ promos, but the bullet points, I give. In this case, it shouldn’t have happened. What will happen going forward is I will be taking over the editing of Dark and Elevation myself. I was already editing Dynamite and Rampage. And I do a lot, and now I will also be editing Dark and Elevation. It’s unfortunate that it came to that.”

Tony Khan: ‘Terrible’ Max Caster AEW Dark rap shouldn’t have aired

During his Wednesday appearance on Busted Open Radio, AEW president and CEO Tony Khan addressed Max Caster’s rap from this week’s episode of AEW Dark.

The rap included references to Olympian Simone Biles’ mental health situation, the Duke lacrosse rape case from 2006, PCR tests being fake, and a sexual joke about 19-year-old AEW wrestler Julia Hart. The episode of Dark was taken down after it aired last night and then re-uploaded with the rap taken out.

Khan called Caster’s rap “terrible” while addressing the situation on Busted Open Radio. Khan said it should have been caught in the editing process and never should have aired. Khan said he’ll be taking over the editing of Dark and Dark: Elevation going forward.

“On the subject of Dark and one of those teams that broke through and really came and did a good job through Dark, one of those teams is The Acclaimed. That’s Anthony Bowens & Max Caster. And speaking of Dark, last night on Dark, Max Caster’s rap was terrible. I was not out there in the moment when he did it. It was not during Dynamite. I was out back when Max had said this rap. I had not heard it until last night, truthfully,” Khan said.

“In the editing process, it should have been caught. We deleted the episode and re-posted it with that edited out, but it shouldn’t have aired. I put such tight controls on Dynamite, and this would never have happened there because Max’s raps, I have always gone over them with him.

Last night’s Dark was the 100th episode of the show. The Acclaimed teamed with Matt Hardy & The Blade to defeat The Varsity Blonds (Brian Pillman Jr. & Griff Garrison), Matt Sydal & Mike Sydal in an eight-man tag match on the show.

Hangman Page vs. Max Caster announced for AEW Dynamite

A match between Max Caster and Hangman Page has been added to this week’s Dynamite.

AEW announced the new match on their social media after Caster defeated Colt Cabana this week on AEW Dark: Elevation.

“After @PlatinumMax Caster’s win on Elevation, taking him to 7-1 with 3 straight wins over Dark Order members (10, Reynolds, Colt), AEW GM @TonyKhan has granted Caster’s request for a bout on #AEWDynamite this week vs. AEW’s #1 ranked wrestler + friend of #DarkOrder, #HangmanPage!” their post read.

Caster, who is a part of the tag team The Acclaimed, has been wrestling as a singles wrestler since his tag team partner Anthony Bowens has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Also announced for this week’s AEW Dynamite:

  • Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers vs. Jon Moxley and The Young Bucks
  • Darby Allin vs. JD Drake for the TNT title
  • The Inner Circle officially returns following last week’s bloody brawl with The Pinnacle

Left My Wallet: AEW’s Max Caster on sports, hip-hop and wrestling

Left My Wallet is back talking hip-hop, sports, and wrestling with AEW’s “Platinum” Max Caster.

Max is one half of the The Acclaimed with Anthony Bowens and over the last year, the team has experienced a meteoric rise from the indies to challenging for the AEW Tag Team Titles.

We talk about Max’s love of hip-hop and how it isn’t a gimmick for him, but rather who he is and what he does in everyday life. He has worked in radio and has been MCing and writing lyrics for years. For him, wrestling is a natural extension.

We talk about his love for Atmosphere, what got him into hip hop, who some of his favorites are from yesterday and today, and how he successfully morphed that with wrestling.

We then shift to sports and what it was like growing up the son of an All-Pro NFL tight end for the New York Jets, and to what extent he went with his own athletic career. We then talk about his hometown Jets, his love for Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks, and how working at SiriusXM turned his love of sports into his career of wrestling.

Finally, we discuss what has made so many Create-A-Pro graduates successful, his journey to AEW, working with the Young Bucks and SCU, the intricacies of tag team wrestling, and why a former Ring of Honor team is his favorite to watch and emulate.
