Powerhouse Hobbs wins Face of the Revolution ladder match on AEW Dynamite

Powerhouse Hobbs is next in line to get a TNT title shot.

Hobbs won the Face of the Revolution ladder match on Wednesday’s Dynamite, earning himself a TNT Championship match on next week’s show. The finish had Hobbs knocking Konosuke Takeshita off the ladder, then climbing it himself to grab the brass ring on the top, winning the match. He’ll either face Samoa Joe or Wardlow depending on the outcome of their match at AEW Revolution on Sunday.

The match featured a ton of crazy spots, mainly by the likes of Action Andretti, Kommander, and Sammy Guevara. Konosuke Takeshita, AR Fox, Eddie Kingston, and Ortiz were also in the match, though Kingston and Ortiz ended up brawling to the back early on.

Some of the highlights included Kommander running across the ring ropes and doing a big dive, wiping out the rest of the participants in the match. Sammy Guevara also hit a dive off the top of a ladder onto Andretti, with Daniel Garcia aiding him.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz, as he throws it to Justin Roberts for our opening contest.

Orange Cassidy defeated Big Bill (w/Stokely Hathaway) to retain the AEW All-Atlantic Title

(This was completely different from Cassidy’s defense in last weeks opener against Wheeler Yuta. They played the size differential very well and Bill looked good as the monster. As usual, Cassidy played his comedy into the match perfectly.)

Cassidy played early cat and mouse with Bill, as it nearly backfired after an altercation with Hathaway on the floor. Cassidy was ultimately planted with a side suplex when trying a satellite DDT. Bill sent Cassidy up and over to the apron and leveled him with a big boot to the floor. Hathaway cleared off the ring attendant table, as he & Bill set it up. Cassidy tried a huge Orange Punch off the ring steps, but leapt right into the clutches of Bill, who chokeslammed Cassidy through the table. The doctor checked on Cassidy as they went to picture in picture.

Danhausen came out to check on Cassidy and remained at ringside. Cassidy tried to fight back, but Bill locked on a Full Nelson. Cassidy got his hands in the pockets and rolled to the floor as Danhausen was about to curse Hathaway, but Bill put a stop to it. Hathaway clocked Danhausen with his cast, as Cassidy wiped both men out with a dive. Cassidy hit an Orange Punch to the knee and sent Bill into the steps. Back inside, Cassidy hit a Stundog Millionaire, satellite DDT, two Orange Punches and super Orange Punch off the top for the win.

-We see a recap of last week’s main event with Jon Moxley vs. Evil Uno and get post match comments from a badly busted open Moxley backstage. Moxley said he lives for this, he’s not the guy you want to go down a dark alley with. He reminds Hangman Page that he tried to leave this alone, but Page wanted this. There’s only room for one animal in AEW, Moxley will die to protect what is his. This was a gruesome visual, as Moxley is pouring blood and absolutely filled up his right eye.

The Elite were about to make their entrance to Carry On Wayward Son, as the lights went out and House of Black were behind them. The lights went out again and when they came on, House of Black were holding the Trios Titles while The Elite were down.

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Eddie Kingston, Ortiz, AR Fox, Sammy Guevara, Action Andretti, Konosuke Takeshita & Komander to win the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match

(As a result, Hobbs will face the winner of Samoa Joe & Wardlow’s TNT Title match at Revolution next week on Dynamite. This was a hell of a ladder match with a ton of high flying and high impact moves. Komander looked super strong in his debut, the crowd was behind Takeshita, Guevara & Andretti continued their feud and Hobbs got a huge hometown reaction for anything he did. I have zero clue why Kingston & Ortiz were even in this match, as they went to the back almost immediately.)

TNT Champion Samoa Joe joined commentary for this one, as Ortiz & Kingston immediately battled up the ramp and to the back. Komander wasted no time showing his athleticism with a rope walk dropkick onto Andretti holding a ladder. The hometown Hobbs mowed down Fox, Andretti & Komander, as Guevara almost became the next number, but thought otherwise. Takeshita didn’t back down and had a slugfest with Hobbs, getting the upper hand, as Don Callis was shown watching backstage. While Fox took out folks on the floor with a dive, it was Komander who did what he does best, walking the ropes from one side of the ring to the other to take out everyone.

During picture in picture, Guevara set up a ladder bridge in the ring, but was cut off by Komander, but in turn was cut off by Takeshita. Another ladder bridge is set up outside the ring, as Fox was planted by Hobbs with a DVD off the apron onto the bridge, which didn’t break. Takeshita & Hobbs collided again, as Guevara tried to pick the scraps and grab the ring, but Andretti scaled the ladder bridge and tried a Falcon Arrow off it, as both men landed super awkwardly. With Fox still set up outside on the bridge, Komander hit a rope walk Shooting Star Press. Komander went for the ring, but Takeshita cut him off with an incredible Blue Thunder Bomb off the ladder.

The crowd was loudly behind Takeshita, who was cut off by Andretti. Daniel Garcia hit the ring to stop Andretti, as he & Guevara quickly set up a ladder between two chairs on the floor. Guevara took out Andretti with a senton off the ladder, as Garcia helped Guevara try to get the ring, but Takeshita wiped out both men. Takeshita was a fingertip away, but Hobbs appeared and mowed down the ladder with Takeshita falling hard. Hobbs climbed the ladder and got the ring to win the match in his hometown. Hobbs literally had to stand on the very top of the ladder to win it. Joe was about to have a faceoff with Hobbs when Wardlow appeared, wiped out security guards, as Hobbs looked on in amusement.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with a medical update saying Chuck Taylor & Trent Baretta aren’t cleared to compete in the battle royal tonight following their attack on Rampage. Danhausen says he & Orange Cassidy will take their place, as Cassidy is still being checked on by the doctor. He doesn’t care, as all hands were in for the Best Friends.

Chris Jericho defeated Peter Avalon

(The biggest miscarriage of justice was the TV audience being robbed of the smooth sounds of Avalon’s entrance theme. This match was 99.9% Avalon, as one move got Jericho the win.)

The bell sounded right when we returned from break as Avalon attacked immediately, taking out Jericho with a dive outside, as he lit up Jericho with chops and drove him into the steps. Back inside, Avalon got a near fall off a springboard cross body and swinging DDT to follow. Avalon briefly played to the crowd and turned into a Code Breaker to give Jericho the win after hitting one move.

Jericho grabbed his baseball bat and beat down Avalon post match until Ricky Starks hit the ring. Jericho took the mic and said the JAS isn’t allowed at ringside on Sunday, but they’re here tonight. Jake Hager & Daniel Garcia appeared and helped Jericho beat up Starks. Garcia hit a Rock Bottom, while Jericho connected with a Judas Effect to leave Starks laying.

-Hangman Adam Page has pre-recorded comments for Jon Moxley ahead of their Texas Death Match. Page said this is all he has left to lose, as he’s lost the AEW Title, Mox has already beat up his friends, but Moxley can’t take away his spot. On Sunday, Page will take Moxley’s spot at the top of AEW. Beating Moxley is Page’s last glimmer of hope, as there’s only two ways out of this match, living or dying and Page isn’t ready to die. This was an excellent promo from Page.

-Renee Paquette is in the ring and introduces Christian Cage. Paquette said after Jungle Boy beat Luchasaurus at Full Gear, the feud should’ve been over, but Cage’s return changed that. Cage said it’ll be over his dead body that Perry will win a title in AEW in 2023; he’s going to do it instead. Cage said last week he left Perry in a pool of his blood, but realized he only wants to win a title so he can show his family and post about it online. Cage called him a dime a dozen, while Cage is 1 of 1, who challenges Perry to a fight, not a match, on Sunday. If Perry doesn’t show up, he’s just like his father, a no talent hack who doesn’t have what it takes.

The lights went out and we see a video package of Jungle Boy digging a grave along with clips of his time with Christian as a mentor. There are tears in his eyes as he digs what we see is a grave with a tombstone that said Christian Cage’s name. Paquette asks Cage for his thoughts, as Cage just slowly backs up silently.

-Tony Schiavone is backstage with Jamie Hayter & Britt Baker, as Hayter said she doesn’t know what’s sweeter, getting to beat up one bitch or two on Sunday. They’ll be watching Toni Storm’s upcoming match with Riho later tonight.

HOOK defeated Matt Hardy (w/Stokely Hathaway, Isiah Kassidy & Ethan Page) to retain the FTW Title

(As a result, HOOK now gets Stokely Hathaway in a No DQ match with The Firm banned from ringside. This was a quick little match with HOOK overcoming the odds and Hardy tapping immediately, thus screwing over Hathaway, which was pretty intentional.)

Hardy showed aggression early, but tried his Delete chant, as it allowed HOOK to get a knee bar. Hardy got the ropes and went outside, as Page sent HOOK into the post with the ref’s attention turned. Back inside, HOOK quickly recovered and hit Hardy with an overhead throw, but charged into a Hardy Snake Eyes. The first Side Effect connected, as HOOK fought off the second as both men collided for a double down. Hathaway took his cast off and handed it to Page, who clocked HOOK. Hardy made the cover, but HOOK kicked out. Hardy went for a Twist of Fate, but HOOK floated over into REDRUM and Hardy tapped instantly.

-The House of Black emerge from the shadows backstage with the Trios Titles. Malakai Black said they’ll leave the titles here, they belong to The Elite now, but on Sunday, they’ve already lost. Julia Hart said they’ll see them at Revolution.

Riho defeated Toni Storm (w/Saraya)

(I wish this match got more time, as this felt like it was just getting going. I understand though, as Saraya, Hayter & Soho are the focal point of this feud right now.)

Storm attacked before Riho even got her ring jacket off, as Riho tried to fight back, but Riho used her speed to hit a corner charge. Saraya ran distraction long enough for Storm to regain control, as Riho hit a roll up into a double stomp on Storm. Riho was sent to the apron and Storm hit Sweet Cheek Music to send her outside where Saraya connected with a charging knee. Storm violently sent Riho into the post as Jamie Hayter & Brit Baker came out from the back as Storm controlled the action throughout the break.

A tilt a whirl head scissors sent Storm into the ropes, but Storm blocked a Tiger Feint Kick. Storm missed the hip attack again, as Riho went up top for a huge cross body to the floor. A double foot stomp off the top led to a Riho Northern Lights for a close two. Storm tried for an Avalanche Storm Zero, Riho tried to counter into a sunset flip out of the corner, but Storm hit a hair mare, John Woo dropkick and Sweet Cheek Music for two. Storm stared down Baker & Hayter as she applied a Cloverleaf on Riho, but as this happened, Riho countered into a roll up for the flash pin.

Post match, Storm & Baker brawled outside as Hayter & Saraya slugged it out before Ruby Soho hit the ring and started swinging at both ladies. All three women had to be separated by officials all while Ruby’s theme was playing.

-Keith Lee & Dustin Rhodes are backstage and address Mogul Affiliates. Lee won’t stand for what they do to others, as Rhodes said this Friday, they don’t like playing games. Mogul Affiliates will remember their names, Naturally Limitless.

John Silver & Alex Reynolds made their way out for the Casino Battle Royale when they were attacked by Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli. They continued to brawl during the commercial.

Danhausen & AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy last eliminated The Butcher & The Blade to win the Casino Tag Team Royale

(Well, a whole lot was crammed into this match and it felt like they were rushing quite a bit. A lot of matches could come out of this though, so the chaos will presumably lead to something. I was a little disappointed we didn’t get FTR, but we were never told a Joker team would be in this, so my expectations were tempered a bit.)

Taz informed us teams enter every 60 seconds, which was ultimately nowhere close to being accurate as entrant times were all over the place. Both teams need to be thrown over the top to be officially eliminated.

As previously mentioned, Silver & Reynolds and Yuta & Castagnoli started things before the break Rush & Preston Vance hit the ring as team three as it was Castagnoli & Rush who picked up where they left off in the Texas Tornado Tag a few weeks ago. Lucha Bros were fourth to a huge ovation, as they ran wild briefly before being outnumbered. Aussie Open are fifth, as Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher immediately laid out Fenix with an assisted pump kick. Reynolds & Silver tried to eliminate Yuta & Castagnoli, but Aussie Open cut them off and the Blackpool Combat Club eliminated the Dark Order duo.

Matt Menard & Angelo Parker entered sixth during break as the other most notable thing to occur was Rush trying to unmask Fenix. Top Flight were next and used their speed, despite the ring filling up. Menard was eliminated as The Kingdom entered eighth and went right after Top Flight who they’ve had their hands full with in Ring of Honor. Aussie Open wiped out The Kingdom with half and half suplexes as Tony Nese, Ari Daivari, Josh Woods & Mark Sterling hit the ring and attacked the Lucha Bros outside. They tossed Penta & Fenix back inside and were immediately dumped by Rush & Vance.

Top Flight eliminated both Vance & Rush as a long time went by with The Kingdom, Aussie Open, Top Flight and the BCC fighting it out. Finally Top Flight were both eliminated and Danhausen & Orange Cassidy entered ninth. Angelo Parker, who was hiding, tried to eliminate Danhausen, but was tossed by Cassidy. The Btcher & Blade were the tenth team with Excalibur calling them the most dangerous team in AEW. Maria Kanellis was pulled up on the apron by Aussie Open when Bennett & Taven accidentally superkicked her to the floor. Both The Kingdom & Aussie Open were dumped.

The BCC, Cassidy & Danhausen and Butcher & Blade are the final three teams, as Silver & Reynolds hit ringside to distract Castagnoli & Yuta, who were dumped by Cassidy & Danhausen. Butcher & Blade hit Drag the Lake on Danhausen, who rolled to the floor. Cassidy was holding on for dear life, as Danhausen snuck up from behind and dumped both Butcher & Blade to win the match.

Post match, Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal & The Gunns hit the ring and laid out Cassidy & Danhausen until The Acclaimed hit the ring. The Gunns bailed, leaving Jarrett & Lethal to get beat up.

-A video package is shown highlighting the AEW World Title match this Sunday between Bryan Danielson & MJF talking about their Iron Man match. This included Jim Ross, Dean Malenko, Excalibur and others. This would be the kind of video packages you’d see on a Countdown or pre-show. It was a good video recapping everything that has led us to the Revolution main event.

Bryan Danielson & MJF’s final confrontation

(They were really trying to cram this final segment being so short on time, but Danielson knocked it out of the park and it was refreshing not to hear MJF cut a heel promo, instead just hear his challenger talk before their showdown this Sunday.)

Renee Paquette welcomed Bryan Danielson to the ring, as she brings up a post from 2014 MJF made when he was dropping out of school mentioning how Bryan Danielson was the reason he wanted to become a wrestler. Danielson talked about how he was forced to retire years ago and if you fight for your dreams, your dreams would fight for you. MJF’s music interrupted, but Danielson told him to shut up before he could even say a word. Danielson said MJF hates him because of the family he has and it’s something MJF thinks he deserves. MJF has done nothing to earn or fight for any of that. Danielson said MJF has taken every shortcut to get to where he’s at and deserves his fiancé leaving him. Danielson has fought for everything he has gotten in life, leaving a job that would’ve paid him the rest of his life so he could fight. Danielson’s new dream is becoming AEW World Champion and he’s willing to fight for it. If MJF isn’t willing to fight on Sunday, he’s going to get his F’ing head kicked in.

Wardlow wins Face of the Revolution ladder match at AEW Revolution

Wardlow won tonight’s Face of the Revolution ladder match at AEW Revolution, earning a future TNT title match later this month.

The finish of the match had Wardlow fight Ricky Starks on top of the ladder. Starks had his hands on the brass ring, but Wardlow was able to transition into a powerbomb, sending Starks onto another ladder below. Wardlow then grabbed the ring and won the match.

Other participants in the match included Powerhouse Hobbs, Christian Cage, Keith Lee, and Orange Cassidy.

With the victory, Wardlow will get a TNT Championship match on the March 16th episode of AEW Dynamite. He will face the winner of the TNT title match between champion Sammy Guevara and Scorpio Sky that will take place on this coming Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.

In recent months, tension has been building between MJF and Wardlow, with MJF reminding Wardlow that he works for him, not for AEW. On last week’s Dynamite, MJF told Wardlow that he would let Wardlow keep the TNT title if he won, but also said he didn’t think he’d actually win. After Wardlow told him it was only because he was making sure MJF won his matches, MJF slapped Wardlow and threatened to fire him.

Christian Cage advances to Revolution ladder match on AEW Rampage

Christian Cage defeated Ethan Page on AEW Rampage to earn the final spot in the ladder match at Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view.

The ladder match winner will earn a future TNT title shot at the March 16 St. Patrick’s Day Slam Dynamite episode.

Ethan Page signs with AEW, appears in Face of the Revolution match

Ethan Page was the surprise entrant in the Face of the Revolution ladder match, and has signed with AEW.

Page was the unannounced sixth entrant in the ladder match that took place at tonight’s Revolution event. He did not win the match; Scorpio Sky laid out Cody and grabbed the brass ring to win, earning a future TNT title match against current champion Darby Allin that will take place this Wednesday.

On commentary, the announcers pushed that he was a former Impact and PWG Tag Team champion with his former tag team partner, Josh Alexander. In Impact, the duo were known as The North. Alexander has remained with Impact.

AEW’s social media later confirmed that he had signed with the company.

Page left Impact Wrestling at the end of last year after his contract expired. He was last seen facing off against his alter ego The Karate Man in a cinematic match that ended after Karate Man ripped Page’s heart out.
