The Young Bucks and company were in Cincinnati for this week’s episode.
Last week, Matt Jackson’s own thoughts were angry with him for having messed up the Hung Bucks IP rights deal, which he sold to The Dark Order for an amount of money far lower than he thought. This week, Matt was obsessed with finding out what other members of The Elite are thinking. However, it turns none of them was thinking about anything important at all. Nick Jackson was really enthusiastically daydreaming about eating a steak and Hangman Page wondered if he could still do a cartwheel.
Footage from Brandon Cutler & Colt Cabana vs. Johnny TV & Aaron Solo was also featured on the show.
Will Washington was back on the episode this week too. Kip Sabian had no idea who he was.
The Dark Order approached Matt in the locker room and thanked him for making them rich. They bragged about all the money they’ve been spending from a sponsorship deal they signed with both Chili’s and Wendy’s. They also mentioned they bought Starbucks and renamed it to Hung Bucks Coffee. They gave Matt a sample of their new coffee but the scene ended abruptly when Silver revealed a special ingredient he put in the beverage.
Matt Jackson apologized to The Elite for the poor financial decisions he has made of late.
Jackson issued his apology to the group on this week’s edition of Being the Elite. He had previously promised Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and his brother Nick that a huge sponsorship deal with Chili’s or Wendy’s was all but signed and that they should all spend as much money as they can. Now that they are all in debt, they have begun giving Matt the middle finger as often as they can.
Ryan Nemeth was also featured on this week’s episode. Nemeth hasn’t wrestled since the Ring of Honor tapings from Universal Studios in May, although reports are he was booked for some recent tapings but didn’t end up performing on the shows. He explained what he has been doing with his “summer vacation” on this week’s BTE. Nemeth appeared later in the episode along with Johnny TV as well.
Highlights from The Young Bucks vs. The Hardys from Dynamite last week also aired on the show.
Further details regarding The Elite signing new contracts with AEW have become available.
Our own Dave Meltzer addressed Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and Hangman Page’s decision to remain in the company, interest they received from WWE, and more in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Details regarding the length of the new deals is being kept under wraps, Meltzer reported. However, he did mention the unconfirmed “story going around” is that they are for four years.
“There was no specific length of time mentioned on the deals past the term several years and the belief is that the agreement was to keep the time frame under wraps. The unconfirmed story going around was that they were four-year deals,” Meltzer wrote.
Meltzer continued to say the money offered by AEW was enough that The Elite opted to sign early and not wait until WWE would legally be able to negotiate with them. The Young Bucks and Page’s deals expired at the end of 2023 while Omega’s deal was set to expire earlier this year but was extended due to the nine months he was out with injury from Full Gear 2021 to August 2022.
The better schedule and executive positions for Omega and The Young Bucks played a factor in their decision to sign as well.
As previously reported, WWE had significant interest in Omega.
“No formal offers could have been legally made for months but Omega was number one on [WWE’s] most wanted list. All four would have been in a great position in an open market so Khan must have made a strong deal to get them to stay without even strongly playing the WWE card,” Meltzer wrote.
It is believed the deals were completed ahead of Blood & Guts in Boston last month, although that is not confirmed.
Agent Barry Bloom represented all four members of the group, who made a pact to stick together with only a majority vote, as opposed to a unanimous one, needed to decide if they would sign with AEW or WWE.
“You’d probably be surprised who voted where,” noted one member of The Elite.
Meltzer reported the group went back and forth on where they wanted to end up.
“Votes changed at times during the discussions based on the emotions of the time, but ultimately all agreed the key, with the strong AEW offer, was to accept the offer made at this point with the other key factor being the AEW schedule,” Meltzer wrote.
Bloom told The Young Bucks that, as far as he knew, the new deal they signed with AEW is the highest guarantee any tag team has received in wrestling history, including the WCW deals for Scott Hall & Kevin Nash, although it’s not clear if that takes inflation into consideration
“The term was that Khan had really put his money where his mouth was and that because of that they were confident that he still saw great value in all four of them,” Meltzer continued.
Meltzer also commented on the still unresolved backstage issues regarding The Elite and CM Punk.
“Even with the signing, there do remain significant behind-the-scenes issues that haven’t been settled, between them and C.M. Punk, which keeps Khan having to do a balancing act,” he wrote.
Swerve Strickland posted a clip of The Young Bucks discussing their new deals on an episode of his podcast that will be released on Monday.

Congratulations to the @youngbucks on re-signing with @AEW, but it wasn't as simple a decision as you may think😳……

Matt Jackson had to obtain a special license in order to deliver an exploding superkick to Jon Moxley.
Matt performed the move during the Anarchy in the Arena match when Moxley had Nick Jackson in a single-leg crab. Our own Dave Meltzer reported in today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he was required to get a fire performers license from the state of Nevada.
Meltzer wrote:
Matt Jackson came up with the exploding superkick spot about a month ago. He wanted to do something that hadn’t been done and to do so he had to get a Nevada State Fire Performers license that other entertainment acts in Las Vegas using things like that as part of the show have to get.
Meltzer gave Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing 2023 a five-star rating. Last year’s Anarchy in the Arena match also received the same rating.
The Young Bucks have now been in 10 matches rated five stars or above, Kenny Omega has been in 23 (the record is 25), Moxley has been in four, Danielson has been in five, and Hangman Page has also been in five. Sunday’s match at Double or Nothing was the first five-star match for both Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.
Matt Jackson says doctors advised him to undergo surgery to repair the torn biceps he suffered in March.
Had Jackson gone through with the surgery, he would have been out of action for six to seven months. This likely would have disrupted The Elite’s program with The Blackpool Combat Club and reunion with Hangman Page.
He detailed his decision to avoid surgery in a social media post on Tuesday.
Matt Jackson wrote:
I got hurt about 10 weeks ago, literally on day one of the beginning of a very important story that we started. I was told there was a good chance I wouldn’t be cleared to perform again for 6-7 months after surgery. Surgeons insisted I get the muscle repaired immediately. I opted not to do surgery, but rather try other therapeutic options that’d get me back quicker. I had faith that through proper rehabilitation, supplementation & prayer, I’d be back wrestling with a target goal of Double or Nothing.
There was clearly a lot of doubt, but I wasn’t going to miss it no matter what. In fact, I wasn’t going to miss any of the events leading to it either. During the process, I lived in fear that I was making a huge mistake. That my arm would never be the same again, or that I’d lose a bunch of strength. I had anxiety and many sleepless nights, that I’d let everyone including myself down.
Thankfully my wife Dana, my family, close friends, & various medical staff members supported & showed their love these past couple of months. And, I hit my target. Wrestling with my ELITE family by my side in Las Vegas meant so much to me because the journey there was pretty rough.
Thank you to everyone who’s put up with me, my endless chatter about my rehab, and asking you to watch me flex so you can tell me how great I look.
A few days removed from my first match back, my arm is great. My strength is completely back & I couldn’t be happier. Everything else on my body, including my foot? Not so much.
Jackson suffered the injury on the March 15 episode of Dynamite during the three-way Trios title match featuring The Elite, Jericho Appreciation Society, and House of Black. He was cleared to return on May 12 and wrestled his first match back at Double or Nothing.
Following interference from Don Callis and Konsuke Takeshita, The BCC defeated The Elite in the Anarchy in the Arena match on Sunday’s pay-per-view.
Matt Jackson has been medically cleared to return following a partially torn biceps.
Jackson suffered the injury early into the three-way Trios championship match on the March 15 episode of AEW Dynamite. He then worked hurt throughout the remainder of the 21-minute match.
Jackson would later reveal that he opted against having surgery to repair the injury and was hopeful to return in time for Double or Nothing on May 28. Surgery would have put him on the shelf for approximately seven months.
Our own Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Jackson was cleared ahead of the May 10 edition of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, weeks ahead of schedule.
Meltzer wrote:
Matt Jackson’s recovery from a partially torn biceps has obviously gone quicker than expected with all the stuff he’s done on television. He was actually cleared this week, a few weeks ahead of schedule and was bumping and running the ropes in the ring before the 5/10 show and has done resistance training for a few weeks
The Young Bucks currently do not have a match scheduled for Double or Nothing. However, The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club rivalry has been a focal point of AEW programming as of late and could potentially be building to a match on the pay-per-view.
Meltzer said the timeframe he was given for Jackson’s recovery is six-to-eight weeks that would put him back in time for the Sunday, May 28th pay-per-view. It’s not a guarantee that Jackson will be ready by then, but it’s a “strong hope” that he will be good to go by then or very soon after if not.
Both Matt & Nick Jackson were written off in storyline by an off-screen attack by the Blackpool Combat Club two weeks ago that saw the former AEW Tag Team Champions taken away in an ambulance.

AEW’s Matt Jackson is currently dealing with an injury.
On the post Raw edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said Jackson had suffered a partially torn biceps during the three-way AEW Trios Championship match with House of Black, Jericho Appreciation Society and The Elite that took place earlier this month in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on Dynamite.
“Apparently it happened early in the match and he worked the whole match with it,” Alvarez said.
“He opted to not get surgery and is hopeful he’ll be back quicker,” Meltzer added. “(With) surgery, you’re looking at seven months.”
Meltzer did not know what the timetable is for his return. He said the injury angle from last week’s Dynamite was designed to write him off TV to explain his absence. The Young Bucks were attacked by the Blackpool Combat Club and were taken away in an ambulance.
“As far as timetable, it’s probably not too long? I don’t know. (Double or Nothing) is in two months. Two months feels short which is too bad if they are not on pay-per-view,” he said.

After suffering a stinger nearly two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite, Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks may be out of action for a few more weeks.
In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Jackson is doing “a lot better” since the injury he suffered in the Wednesday, July 13th three-way match with Swerve In Our Glory and Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs where the Bucks lost the AEW Tag Team titles.
“He described it as like bad whiplash. He’s had no loss of strength, and his mobility and range of motion is already back to normal. He passed a strength test right after the injury so major concerns about the injury were alleviated quickly. But he was very sore and it may be a few weeks before he’s back in the ring,” Meltzer wrote.
Matt Jackson suffered a stinger in the AEW Tag Team Championship match on Dynamite.
The Young Bucks dropped the titles to Keith Lee and Swerve Scott on Wednesday in a triple threat match that also involved Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs. Our own Bryan Alvarez stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that Jackson was hurt in the opening minutes of the match.
“About, I don’t know, three, four, five minutes into the match, Matt Jackson gets a stinger,” Alvarez said.
“This is one of those things where people talk about toning down because there are so many injuries, but dude, I’m telling you 80% of these injuries are on things that nobody should ever get hurt doing and what he got hurt on was Keith Lee and Hobbs giving him a basic vertical suplex and just when he fell… you could see it immediately. He hit ass first and then his head snapped back and he grabbed his neck.”
“From that point forward, he was being super careful, he was being super careful on his bumps. For the most part, everybody was being super careful with everything they did to him. I think he took one double-team powerbomb from Keith and Swerve near the end but other than that, you could just see everyone working around him and they still had this great match.”
Dave Meltzer also noted that Matt has a history of neck problems.
“The thing with Matt though is Matt has had neck issues just from the wear and tear,” he said. “It’s one of those things where you get hurt on a basic move but it’s because you’ve been doing so much stuff.”
“He’s probably worked a very bump-heavy style for 18 years, 17 years, however many years it’s been, it’s been a lot of years. I think we’ve seen that with a lot of the injuries, they are on basic stuff but they are on body parts that are very worn out.”
