Brian Myers signs contract with Impact Wrestling

Brian Myers has signed with Impact Wrestling.

Myers confirmed this afternoon on Twitter that he has signed with the promotion.

“Thanks for the money Eddie,” Myers wrote, referring to Anthem Wrestling president Ed Nordholm. “You just made the best decision of your life. You now have a workhorse in the prime of his career with a massive chip on his shoulder signed to your roster. The Most Professional Wrestler. @IMPACTWRESTLING is now mine. #IMPACTonAXSTV.”

Myers has made appearances for the promotion since July. In August, he challenged then Impact World champion Eddie Edwards in a losing effort on Impact. Back at Turning Point this past November, he defeated Swoggle.

After re-signing with WWE in 2016, Myers (known as Curt Hawkins) had most recently appeared on the Raw brand, teaming with Zack Ryder (Matt Cardona). Both were released in April of last year, with the company citing the COVID-19 pandemic as reason for the cuts.

Now going by his real name of Brian Myers, there was no date announced for when he will be in action.

The 35-year-old was released along with dozens of others as part of the April pandemic-related WWE cuts. Meyers has competed in Impact before as part of the failed Global Force Wrestling invasion angle in 2015. He and Trevor Lee held the then-TNA tag titles for just one day as they beat, and then lost to, The Wolves.

Impact has been adding some of the aforementioned released talent as of late, signing Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Eric Young, and ECIII. Those four men made their on-screen debuts/returns at last Saturday’s Slammiversary.

Ryder & Hawkins to challenge for WWE Raw Tag Team titles

The Raw Tag Team titles will be on the line on Monday’s go-home show for Survivor Series.

WWE has announced that Raw Tag Team Champions The Viking Raiders will defend their titles against Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins on Monday’s Raw. WWE set up Ryder & Hawkins getting the title shot by them defeating The OC’s Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson and The Street Profits in a triple threat match at today’s house show in Mannheim, Germany.

Hawkins rolled up Anderson to get the win.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) also have a title defense before Survivor Series. Former champions The Revival will get their rematch for the titles on tomorrow’s SmackDown.

The Raw Tag Team Champions and SmackDown Tag Team Champions will face NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish) in a non-title triple threat match at Survivor Series on Sunday, November 24.

Monday’s Raw is taking place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

WWE Main Event results: Hawkins & Ryder vs. Rowan & Young

The Big Takeaway: Shelton Benjamin defeated No Way Jose to make it two wins in a row after making his Main Event debut last week. Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins also went two for two, seeing off Eric Young and the new tag partner he had this week — Erick Rowan.

With no Byron Saxton or Dio Maddin, the commentary team was Vic Joseph with Mickie James.

**********

Shelton Benjamin defeated No Way Jose (5:50)

Benjamin made an impressive Main Event debut last week. Despite it being a pity that he has nothing creatively at the moment and so is being used on Main Event, he immediately brought some relevance to the show.

Here against No Way Jose, there was much more of an even feel and he gave a lot of the match to Jose. The first two minutes were all Jose, with Benjamin looking rattled by the approach.

They went back and forth, with Jose hitting Benjamin with a double knee backbreaker before setting up for the knockout punch. Benjamin just about had it scouted before he then popped up and hit Jose with Paydirt for the win.

This was fine, but Benjamin being booked as a merciless wrestler who bullies and torments his opponents — just as he did against Akira Tozawa last week — would be way more interesting.

Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins defeated Erick Rowan & Eric Young (6:08)

Ryder and Hawkins have new ring gear to make them look like a unit. It’s taken long enough, as even when they were Tag Team Champions, they were still coming out to their own individual music and wearing their old gear.

Last week, they saw off Eric Young & Mojo Rawley, but Rowan was infinitely better as a difference-maker here.

Ryder and Hawkins cut the ring in half in the early going, but when Young knocked Ryder off the top rope to the outside, he tagged in Rowan, who absolutely annihilated Ryder with a charge on the floor.

Young and Rowan softened up Ryder. He played babyface in peril until finally giving Hawkins the hot tag. Eventually, Hawkins sent Rowan outside and launched Ryder on top of him so that he could turn around and cover Young with a sunset flip.

This was a good shock finish, with Ryder and Hawkins celebrating up the ramp while Rowan and Young stayed in the ring shaking their heads in disbelief.

WWE Main Event results: Cesaro & EC3 vs. Ryder & Hawkins

The Big Takeaway: Lacey Evans saw off Dana Brooke in the opener. The team of Cesaro & EC3 then defeated Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins to leave the latter without a televised win since May.

**********

Lacey Evans defeated Dana Brooke (5:09)

Evans and Brooke faced off against each other on Main Event two weeks back with the result going in the same direction. This was probably a better match all told, with the ending putting Evans over strong.

Evans spent much of the match working over Brooke’s left arm, but Evans does look to have improved in recent weeks. They did a spot where she mimicked Brooke’s one-handed press-ups, but this was otherwise quite a slow, formulaic match.

The ending looked good, with Evans using a sleeper hold, taking Brooke up to the second rope. When she then released Brooke, Brooke lay prone and Evans waited for her to get to her feet. Evans then came off the top with the Women’s Right for the win.

Cesaro & EC3 defeated Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins (3:53)

EC3 and Cesaro tagged together in six-man tag action back in June when they teamed up with Robert Roode. They defeated the Lucha House Party then and looked strong again here.

For Ryder and Hawkins, things seem to have returned to normalcy. They are without a televised win as a team since May and are being used more on this show than they are on Raw, where their appearances have been sporadic since they lost the Tag Team titles in June.

Cesaro looked so smooth and comfortable throughout and Hawkins and Ryder both had spots where they impressed. Hawkins came off the top rope to nail EC3 and Cesaro on the outside and Ryder did a tope on them both before the finish.

It was an all-action finish, though, after they had all hit their finishing moves. Cesaro pinned Ryder with the Neutralizer to give these two their first tag team win together.

WWE adds The Usos to Raw Tag Team title match

WWE has added a third team to tonight’s Raw Tag Team title match.

Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins will now defend their titles against The Revival and The Usos in a triple threat match on tonight’s Raw. The match was originally announced as Ryder & Hawkins defending against The Revival before The Usos were added.

The Usos defeated The Revival on the Super ShowDown pre-show this past Friday.

Ryder & Hawkins became Raw Tag Team Champions by defeating The Revival on the WrestleMania 35 pre-show. They haven’t had a televised title defense since retaining against The Revival on the Raw after WrestleMania.

Tonight’s Raw is taking place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. United States Champion Samoa Joe will appear on Miz TV, and WWE has announced a segment where Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre will celebrate Shane’s win against Roman Reigns from Super ShowDown.

Due to Rey Mysterio having a shoulder injury, Mysterio relinquished the United States title back to Joe on last week’s Raw.

Tag Team title match, two segments confirmed for WWE Raw

A Tag Team title match and a couple of segments have been made official for this Monday’s episode of Raw.

WWE has announced that Raw Tag Team Champions Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins will defend their titles against The Revival on the episode. A Miz TV segment with Samoa Joe is also set, and Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre will celebrate Shane’s win against Roman Reigns from Super ShowDown.

Ryder & Hawkins became Raw Tag Team Champions by defeating The Revival on the WrestleMania 35 pre-show. They haven’t had a televised title defense since retaining against The Revival on the Raw after WrestleMania.

The Revival lost to The Usos on the Super ShowDown pre-show this past Friday.

Rey Mysterio relinquished the United States title to Samoa Joe last week, with Mysterio giving up the title due to a shoulder injury. Mysterio had won the title from Samoa Joe at Money in the Bank, though Joe’s shoulder was up when he was pinned.

Before Shane pinned Reigns at Super ShowDown, McIntyre hit a Claymore Kick on Reigns while the referee wasn’t looking. Reigns will face McIntyre at Stomping Grounds in Tacoma, Washington on June 23.

This week’s Raw is taking place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

WWE Main Event results: Ryder & Hawkins vs. Gallows & Anderson

The Big Takeaway: Two regular matches this week — one that was too long and one that was too short. EC3 lost again in a rematch against Cedric Alexander from last week. In the main event of the show, Raw Tag Team Champions Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins had a fun-while-it-lasted non-title bout, seeing off Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson.

**********

Byron Saxton and Renee Young were back as a two-person announce team this week. Saxton has done a remarkable job at merging his voice to sound just like every other generic WWE announcer.

Cedric Alexander defeated EC3 (5:46)

Well, he lost again. EC3’s apathy is certainly apparent these days if you check out his Twitter. From a gif of him raising a red cup and an eyebrow from Raw to a picture of an out-of-shape-looking, pot-bellied Chris Hemsworth from Thor, EC3’s posts seem to say it all.

If you saw their match last week on Main Event, it was pretty much the same as this one. They did a big spot where EC3 hit a superplex on Alexander, but otherwise they would have benefited from going home earlier and giving more time to the tag match.

The finish was much the same as last week, too. EC3 went to set up for the One Percenter, but Alexander flipped out of it and then hit the Lumbar Check for the win. EC3 sold it like it killed his back and Alexander leaped on him for the pin.

Raw Tag Team Champions Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins defeated Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson in a non-title match (3:47)

This was very entertaining for what it was. All four of these men are very good at what they do, with Hawkins the standout here. Why it had to run at under four minutes and why it has to be relegated to Main Event is up there with asking why they called up EC3 and why he keeps losing.

There were a few looks and little wry smiles in this match that showed that these two teams probably get on pretty well on the road. Hawkins and Ryder are extremely smooth together — and for Gallows and Anderson much of this is now like muscle memory.

They went back and forth until the ring filled and Ryder was able to take out Anderson. Hawkins gave Anderson a sweet-looking Pele kick to stagger him so that they could set up the Long Island Express for the win.

The Revival vs. Ryder & Hawkins officially added to WrestleMania

The Revival vs. Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins for the WWE Raw tag team titles has been added to Sunday’s WrestleMania 35.

The 33-year-old Ryder and the 33-year-old Hawkins issued a challenge in a video posted to WWE.com after Raw ended on Monday. The Revival answered the challenge via Twitter Thursday, and the match was officially announced on WWE.com.

The challengers are both New York natives, and previously held the WWE tag team titles together in 2008. Since reuniting as a team in January, the duo are winless in tag matches.

Hawkins is currently involved in a losing streak storyline which stands at 269 consecutive matches according to WWE.

The Revival won the Raw tag titles on the February 11, 2019, edition of Raw by defeating Bobby Roode and Chad Gable.

That brings the WrestleMania match total to sixteeen with nine title matches. The SmackDown version of the titles will be defended in a four way featuring the Usos (champions) vs. Aleister Black/Ricochet, The Bar, and Nakamura/Rusev.

WrestleMania notes: Revival-Hawkins & Ryder, Demon Balor

– While a Raw Tag Team title match has yet to be made official for WrestleMania 35, the build to one continued after last night’s Raw.

WWE uploaded a post-Raw video where Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins challenged The Revival to a Tag Team title match at WrestleMania. Dash Wilder told them that The Revival would take it under consideration.

Hawkins’ storyline heading into WrestleMania is that he’s gone 269 straight matches without a win.

The Revival defended their titles against Ricochet & Aleister Black last night and won by countout. Scott Dawson was under the ring and stopped Ricochet from being able to make the count. Black laid out Wilder and Dawson with Black Mass after the match, then Ricochet hit the 630 on Dawson.

Hawkins and Ryder are both from New York, with WWE pushing that WrestleMania is taking place in their home area. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey is hosting WrestleMania 35 on Sunday.

– On last night’s go-home episode of Raw, it was confirmed that Finn Balor will be using his “Demon” character for his Intercontinental title match against Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania.

Lashley and Lio Rush did an in-ring interview and were asked about rumors of the Demon showing up on Sunday. Balor appeared on the video screen and then became the Demon. Balor said his Demon will be Lashley’s nightmare.

Balor defeated Jinder Mahal & Lashley in a handicap match last week to set up him getting the Intercontinental title shot at WrestleMania.

WWE Main Event results: Revival win, Hawkins’ streak continues

The Big Takeaway: Not much of a show to kick off 2019. Titus O’Neil picked up a win against perennial loser Curt Hawkins. The Revival headlined the episode for the first time since November to see off Tyler Breeze & Zack Ryder.

**********

Happy New Year, everyone.

The episode opened up with a graphic paying tribute to the late, great “Mean” Gene Okerlund.

Titus O’Neil defeated Curt Hawkins (4:52)

A new year, but the same old Curt Hawkins. Now at 0-252, the losing streak storyline appears to still be going nowhere, but a light “let’s go Hawkins” chant started up as these two locked up.

O’Neil got the crowd back on his side when he nailed Hawkins with a big open-handed chop that caused an audible “ooh,” followed by calls for “one more chop.” O’Neil smiled at the reaction, but Hawkins quickly took over the momentum.

There was really nothing much to this one in the end. The finish saw O’Neil connect with a big boot, followed by a hip toss and a running splash to Hawkins in the corner. O’Neil then hit the Clash of the Titus for the win.

The Revival defeated Tyler Breeze & Zack Ryder (7:44)

The Revival arguably spent far too much of 2018 on Main Event, despite calls from keen followers for them to be used more creatively on the main roster, and they find themselves back here again at the start of 2019. That said, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder were easily the best thing about this match, that by the end was 100 mph.

It might have been poor editing, but a lot of Breeze’s moves were quite obviously whiffing at thin air in the opening minutes and made Dawson and Wilder look a lot more legitimate in their move set. The rather expectant pre-Raw crowd seemed to get into it later on as they traded near falls.

The end of the match saw Ryder incapacitated outside. Breeze got a two count on Dawson and rolled to the apron and then drove his shoulder into Dawson’s midriff. When he then flipped into the ring over Dawson’s back, Wilder tagged in. As Breeze ran the ropes, Wilder and Dawson hit the Shatter Machine for the win.

WWE Main Event results: The B-Team & Ryder win again

The Big Takeaway: After his strange pairing with The Ascension on the show last week, it was business as usual for Tyler Breeze, who beat Curt Hawkins in the opener.

Taking Breeze’s place in a repeat of last week’s main event, Mojo Rawley teamed up with The Ascension. They lost in a ridiculously short six-man tag match against Zack Ryder & The B-Team.

**********

After his absence last week, Percy Watson returned from assignment to make up the three-man announce booth alongside Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness.

Tyler Breeze defeated Curt Hawkins (5:55)

Fresh off his Mixed Match Challenge debut with Ember Moon, where he replaced the injured Braun Strowman this past week, Hawkins returned to singles action. Breeze had played a pawn in last week’s six-man tag match here on Main Event, when he teamed with The Ascension, and so this was a return to the normal run of things for both men.

Hawkins looked like he was going to finally snatch a win, as Breeze very much played the heel. After both men had put each other in the tree of woe and both had kicked out of near falls, Hawkins nailed Breeze with a running lariat. But much to Hawkins’ chagrin, Breeze kicked out at two and a half.

With the referee trying to break Hawkins off at the ropes, while Breeze grabbed a rest, Hawkins was ushered away and Breeze was able to nail him with a superkick and then the Unprettier for the win.

The loss for Hawkins took him to 0-238 as of this match. He is winless since November 2016.

The B-Team & Zack Ryder defeated The Ascension & Mojo Rawley (2:26)

When the entrances run longer than the match itself, it’s rarely a good sign — and this was no different. As the time suggests, this wasn’t much to write home about and, inexplicably, it even ran through a commercial break.

Curtis Axel was the star of the show. After Rawley had played his usual bull in a china shop role, the ring filled and they all started to go at it. Ryder gave the Rough Ryder to Rawley and Viktor sent Bo Dallas outside. With the match running at 100 mph, Axel had to take control.

Viktor tried to roll Axel through and use the ropes for leverage, but the ref saw it and called it, stopping the count. Axel seized the opportunity to roll Viktor back through and snatched the three count before celebrating wildly with his team mates.

This trio are now 2-0 and are certainly fun to watch.

WWE Main Event results: Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins reunite

The Big Takeaway: Dana Brooke grabbed a rare solo win against Alicia Fox and Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins made their first tag team appearance together in nearly 10 years.

**********

Dana Brooke defeated Alicia Fox (5:20)

Its sometimes easy to forget that Alicia Fox is the longest tenured female performer on the Raw roster — and yet she’s only 31. Having been signed in 2006 and debuting in 2008, she’s been doing this for a very long time — and yet there’s still no spot for her on this weekend’s Survivor Series card.

In Brooke’s case, you’d have to argue that she has really struggled since Titus Worldwide was disbanded. This was her first solo win since January and she pretty much stole it here in a match that felt like a long five minutes.

They were supposed to trade small packages at the finish, after Fox rolled Brooke into one, but instead of Brooke rolling her over into her own, she essentially just covered her. It was an underwhelming finish, but Brooke showed her delight at finally getting a win.

Apollo Crews & Tyler Breeze defeated Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder (6:02)

For those still following along, Hawkins is still on his losing streak that began back in November of 2016. He is currently 0-236. He and Ryder are now producing their own YouTube content for WWE — Figure It Out – where they hunt down vintage action figures.

Ryder and Hawkins’ reunion as a tag team wasn’t quite met with the approval that you might expect. Given that this was their first tag match together since late 2008, its significance may well have been lost on some. Whatever anyone says, these are two men who have been around the block, fighting the mad and the bad and are good enough to still be filling a main roster spot.

Ryder and Hawkins took a lot of the match, were slick and smooth, and as a match it was perfectly good. It led to a finish where Hawkins was sent outside after he and Ryder looked to have Crews beaten. Ryder sent Breeze outside too but then got caught by Crews: first with a Gorilla press drop and then with the standing moonsault for the win.
