AEW’s MJF, Cash Wheeler react to New Day’s WWE departure

AEW’s MJF and Cash Wheeler posted references to New Day after news broke that Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston are leaving WWE.

On Saturday, our own Bryan Alvarez confirmed that Woods and Kingston were granted their release from the company after being asked to restructure their current agreements with TKO.

MJF posted to Instagram Stories:

“It’s a new day…. yes it is.”

Cash Wheeler of FTR posted:

“Cot damn
It’s a new day
Cot damn”

New Day vs. The Revival in WWE

Wheeler and his tag team partner Dax Harwood previously wrestled New Day several times while both teams were in WWE in 2019.

That year, New Day exchanged wins and losses in six-man tags against The Revival and Randy Orton. On the November 8 episode of SmackDown that year, taped in Manchester, England, Big E and Kofi Kingston defeated The Revival to win the SmackDown Tag Team titles. New Day then retained the titles against The Revival at the TLC pay-per-view in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 15.

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods part ways with WWE

Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have parted ways with WWE.

On Saturday, fans online noticed that Kingston and Woods had been moved to the Alumni section of WWE’s website. Both are also no longer listed under the Raw, SmackDown, or NXT sections of the company’s roster page.

Our own Bryan Alvarez has since confirmed that Kingston and Woods decided to leave the company after being asked to restructure their deals.

Alvarez wrote to his subscribers:

“We can also confirm that in the case of New Day, it was their decision to leave based on what TKO was offering for a new deal.”

“To be specific, New Day’s deals were not up. They were asked to restructure to TKO deals, they didn’t like the deals, so they were then granted their release.”

Alvarez also confirmed that both Kingston and Woods are under 90-day non-compete deals.

New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in WWE

Kingston, Woods, and Big E first appeared together as New Day on the July 21, 2014 episode of Raw. The team went on to become 13-time WWE tag team champions, while Kingston and Big E both won the WWE Championship during their run together.

Kingston had been with WWE for nearly 20 years after signing a developmental deal in 2006. Woods had been with the company since 2010.

WWE Raw wrestler responds to Penta’s Intercontinental title open challenge

Kofi Kingston has stepped up to answer Penta’s open challenge.

On Saturday, Penta posted on his Instagram Stories that he will hold an open challenge for his Intercontinental Championship on Monday’s WWE Raw from Madison Square Garden in New York.

On Sunday, Kingston responded to Penta, writing that he will see him on Monday.

Kingston wrote on X:

“No se diga mas, cabron. I would love nothing more than to walk into the depths of Hell (New York) and pry the Holy Grail (IC Title) from the vile grips of the Devil himself (Penta). See you tomorrow, amigo.”

The updated lineup for Monday’s show is below.

WWE Raw lineup for March 30, 2026:

  • Street fight for World Tag Team titles: The Usos defend against Austin Theory & Logan Paul
  • Women’s Tag Team titles: Lash Legend & Nia Jax defend against Bayley & Lyra Valkyria
  • IYO SKY vs. Raquel Rodriguez
  • Brock Lesnar will appear
  • CM Punk and Roman Reigns will be under the same roof
  • Intercontinental Champion Penta defends against Kofi Kingston

Big E addresses ‘very real criticism’ of New Day WWE betrayal angle

Big E understands why fans were so critical of how things played out following his split from The New Day.

In December 2024, an angle took place where Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods betrayed Big E and kicked him out of New Day. Fans were hoping the angle would lead to something more, but there wasn’t much follow-up since Big E is unable to compete after breaking his neck in 2022.

Big E, speaking with The Takedown on SI, said he took part in the angle despite knowing that there would likely never be a big payoff with him returning to the ring. His hope was that he would align with other babyfaces or get payback on Kingston & Woods in a different way. But there ended up not being any subsequent angle with Big E getting his retribution.

“I think that is a very real criticism,” Big E said about not being able to deliver an appropriate payoff to the angle. “Creative, as you know, is a give and take. And I’m only one component of it. There are a lot of other people involved. The creative team kind of just talked to me about the general idea and I initially thought at least being able to kind of, not pass the baton, but if Kofi and Woods were going to work with another team, and I was able to kind of give them my blessing, or I had an idea I wanted to do around Rumble to kind of foil Kofi and Woods.

“Because I’m with you in that, us continuing to build this angle or to build heat with someone who’s not coming back, I think doesn’t make sense. It leads fans astray. But I thought if anything, ‘Okay, if we’re going to do this, there’s a way for me to kind of pass the torch to someone else or give them my blessing, or say, I’m aligned with you, or say, whatever it is.'”

Big E noted that there are a lot of people involved with the creative process and sometimes things can fall through the cracks even though everyone is trying to do their best.

“There are a lot of cooks in the creative kitchen, and we felt like this was us making the best of what we were given, and yeah, that’s kind of how that went down,” he said.

“But no, I agree with you and a lot of people who felt the same, and I saw a lot of that feedback after it was clear that I wasn’t coming back in a timely fashion, that it was, ‘Okay, why are we putting so much stock into an angle where one person is never coming back? There’s no retribution?’ So I think that’s a very real criticism. And I heard it, and I think people have a right to feel that way.”

Big E announced earlier this month that he officially considers himself retired from the ring after breaking his neck in March 2022. He is able to live a normal, pain-free life despite the injury and still contributes to WWE in a broadcasting role.

Xavier Woods taking time off due to shoulder injury

Xavier Woods is taking time off.

During a commercial break on Raw, Kofi Kingston came out and explained that he had some devastating news: Woods has been battling a shoulder injury for the last three months and now medical staff were “forcing” him to take time off in order for the shoulder to recover. Grayson Waller proceeded to “read a message” from Woods where he insulted the Memphis crowd and called them ugly.

On social media, Woods reacted to the promo by writing “BRB.”

Woods last wrestled in a dark match that was held prior to the Royal Rumble late last month. He, Kingston, and Waller lost to Shinsuke Nakamura and The Motor City Machine Guns. On television, he was last seen teaming with Kingston losing a four-way number one contender’s match for the World Tag Team titles. Alpha Academy emerged as the winners and ultimately lost to The Usos.

Since turning heel at the end of 2024, The New Day have been a fixture on Raw’s tag team division, winning the titles at WrestleMania last year. Since losing them, they have often been seen complaining about the “death” of the brand’s tag team division.

Kofi Kingston thanks fellow WWE stars for free Super Bowl ticket

Due to the kindness of a couple of his WWE colleagues, Kofi Kingston got to attend the Super Bowl for free on Sunday night.

Kingston sent out a message this morning thanking Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch for having him as their guest at Super Bowl LX. The game did not go the way Kingston (a New England Patriots fan) wanted it to, but he still had a great time seeing his team play on football’s biggest stage.

“Wish the result was different, but I have to thank Seth & Becky for making this possible,” Kingston tweeted. “Watching your team play in the Super Bowl is such a rare experience & I’m beyond grateful for their thoughtfulness. BIG Salute to the Cap’n & The Man! I am forever indebted…”

In his tweet, Kingston included an image of the text thread where Rollins invited him to the Super Bowl. Kingston offered to pay for the ticket, but Rollins said he himself had received the ticket for free and would not allow Kingston to pay for it.

Rollins is a big NFL fan and has been branching out into sports media, including a recurring role as a guest host on the NFL Network series “Good Morning Football.” Leading into the Super Bowl, he made several media appearances at Radio Row last week. Rollins is currently recovering from a rotator cuff injury but is hoping to be cleared to return in time for WrestleMania 42 this April.

Report: Former WWE Champion re-signed with company earlier this year

According to a new report, Kofi Kingston re-signed with WWE earlier this year.

Fightful is reporting that Kingston is believed to have signed a five-year contract that expires in 2030. He first signed a WWE developmental deal in 2006 and has remained with the company ever since.

It’s not clear exactly when Kingston’s previous deal would have expired, but all three members of The New Day signed five-year contracts with the company in 2019.

Kingston made his main roster debut in 2008 and, along with Big E and Xavier Woods, formed The New Day in 2014. He won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35, defeating Daniel Bryan after fans pushed for him to be included in the world title picture.

Yesterday, news broke that Xavier Woods had also reached an agreement with WWE on an extension, although terms and length have not been disclosed. Woods confirmed the news later in the day on Tuesday, writing: “How do yall know this stuff? I didnt say anything! But yes. You’re gonna see my sexy face for a while longer even though you dont deserve it. 22 years in the game and about to make the next bit even better than the rest.”

Kofi Kingston update following WWE Raw

An update on Kofi Kingston following WWE Raw.

Bryan Alvarez is reporting that Kingston isn’t on the internal injury list after getting hit with a knee during his match Monday night against LA Knight.

“Kofi got rocked with a knee on RAW, but wasn’t listed on the internal injury report after the show, so apparently he’s OK,” he wrote.

The match was set up earlier in the night when LA Knight told Adam Pearce he wanted a World Championship match, noting he was the last person to pin Seth Rollins. The New Day interrupted asking for their own World Tag team title match. Knight attempted to dismiss them, but Kingston said he is the only one with World title experience. Knight said he’d be World Champion pretty soon and asked Pearce to set up the match, which he did.

The New Day in recent weeks have formed an association with Grayson Waller, who has served as a third man of sorts. They have usually been involved in comedy skits, asking other wrestlers to sign a petition banning the Mexican Destroyer that Penta has used on all three men.

Kofi Kingston voices support for WWE’s ‘really, really cool’ expansion efforts

New Day member Kofi Kingston is a big fan of the recent attempts WWE has made to expand its footprint.

While speaking with the Battleground Podcast, Kingston voiced support for some of the steps WWE has taken in recent years like adding in-ring sponsorships and holding more PLEs overseas. He believes these are things the company should have been doing a long time ago.

“We are in such a special time right now. And I was just talking about this in another interview, how, you know, WWE has always been about expanding, right? And branching out into different areas. But I feel like in the past year and a half, two years, we have really just kind of sunk our teeth into anything and everything that we possibly can,” Kingston said. “Bro, even like having advertisements in the ring — we should have been doing that, like a long time ago. The Slim Jim tables, the Prime station, you know what I mean. There’s just so many different ways of interacting, and we have just sunk our teeth into all of them. And I think it’s really, really cool.

“Not to mention all the international shows that we’ve had this year. We’ve had so many Premium Live Events overseas, Clash in Paris, Crown Jewel coming up in Australia. It’s just wild to me, man — like how we can keep on pushing the boundaries. And I love it, man. It’s really cool. And especially like worldwide, we have such a rabid fan base throughout the entire world. And they also deserve to have shows brought to them. They deserve to see shows live. And we are doing our best to get all over the world and get in front of the people who are some of our biggest fans.”

Kingston also likes how WWE has started to collaborate with places like TNA Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA. Following WWE’s acquisition of AAA earlier this year, the two promotions will present a Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas tonight (September 12). The card includes a AAA Tag Team title match with Kingston and his New Day partner Xavier Woods challenging Psycho Clown & Pagano.

“Like you were saying, the collaborations with different companies. With AAA, like, who would have ever thought? Getting to wrestle for the AAA Tag Team titles is going to be amazing at Worlds Collide,” Kingston said. “I’m still kind of in like awe that it’s actually even happening. We have a chance to bring some more tag team gold to the New Day side.”

Worlds Collide will stream live on YouTube in both English and Spanish starting at 10 p.m. Eastern. The card is headlined by El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship.

WWE Raw lineup: Two new matches added

Two new matches have been added to the card for today’s WWE Raw in Paris, France.

Following Clash in Paris, WWE is back at Paris La Defense Arena this afternoon for the final stop on its European tour. It was already known that an Intercontinental Championship bout between Dominik Mysterio and AJ Styles would be taking place on the episode. Now, two more matches have been confirmed.

The Kabuki Warriors will team up against Judgment Day’s Roxanne Perez & Raquel Rodriguez. Plus, there will be a six-man tag match pitting New Day and their new ally Grayson Waller against The War Raiders & Penta.

Today’s show has a special start time of 2 p.m. Eastern, streaming live on Netflix worldwide. Here is everything that has been announced:

  • There will be an update on the vacant Women’s World Championship

Tag Team title match official for WWE WrestleMania 41

Another new match is officially on the books for WrestleMania 41.

WWE confirmed this afternoon that The War Raiders (Ivar & Erik) will defend their World Tag Team titles against New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) at WrestleMania in Las Vegas. The match was expected to be added to the Mania card after their title bout on Raw earlier this week ended with New Day winning by disqualification. It was made official via a social media announcement from Raw general manager Adam Pearce.

During their match on Raw, Woods introduced a chair into the ring but had it wrestled away from him by Ivar. The referee then called for a DQ after Ivar struck Woods with the chair. New Day launched a post-match steel chair attack on The War Raiders until officials broke things up.

A stipulation for War Raiders vs. New Day has not been announced, but Dave Meltzer reported earlier today that it’s possible one could be added. Meltzer wrote that the bout is expected to be part of the card for night one of WrestleMania.

Ivar & Erik have been World Tag Team Champions since winning the belts from Judgment Day’s Finn Balor & JD McDonagh in December.

As things stand, the matches set for WrestleMania are expected to happen on the following nights:

CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Kofi Kingston announced for WWE Raw

CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and New Day’s Kofi Kingston will all be on WWE Raw this week.

CM Punk didn’t appear live on last week’s show, instead participating in a sit-down backstage interview with Jackie Redmond. However, he’ll be back on Monday and is advertised to respond to Seth Rollins.

From WWE.com:

“CM Punk is aspiring to enter the championship picture, but he seemingly has unfinished business with Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Rollins has frequently called out The Voice of the Voiceless, though Punk called Rollins a “second-stringer” while being interviewed by Jackie Redmond. Don’t miss CM Punk live on Raw, this Monday at 8/7 C on USA!”

Rollins is also advertised to appear live on Monday’s show.

From WWE.com:

“This Monday, Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins will be live on Raw, potentially on a collision course with CM Punk. Rollins berated Punk last week and is focused on a match with his nemesis. What will The Visionary say regarding The Best in the World this week? Don’t miss Rollins live, this Monday at 8/7 C on USA!”

This week’s WWE Raw will take place at TD Garden in Boston, MA, the hometown of New Day’s Kofi Kingston. He’s also advertised for Monday’s show.

From WWE.com:

“The New Day have set a new path after shockingly berating Big E and kicking him out of the group during their 10-Year Anniversary Celebration. The emotional moment sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe, leaving Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods with very little support. This Monday, Kingston will return to his hometown of Boston with the hopes of getting a much better reception than he and Woods received last week. Will Kingston receive a warm welcome or be met with more hostility?”

Two title matches have also been booked for Monday’s show. Bron Breakker will defend his Intercontinental title against Ludwig Kaiser, and Finn Balor and JD McDonagh will put their titles on the line against The War Raiders.

WWE Raw, Monday, December 16, 2024, announced lineup:

  • WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker defends against Ludwig Kaiser
  • World Tag Team Champions The Judgment Day (Finn Balor & JD McDonagh) defend against The War Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
  • CM Punk to respond to Seth Rollins
  • Seth Rollins to appear live
  • Kofi Kingston returns to his hometown of Boston

The New Day turn against Big E on WWE Raw

The New Day have turned on one of their own.

During The New Day ten-year celebration on Raw, Big E made a surprise return, offering to manage Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods and help fix their problems until he’s medically cleared to return. In a shocking turn of events, however, both Woods & Kingston rejected the offer and accused Big E of choosing himself over the team.

The segment started with Kingston & Woods, who had shown animosity towards one another in recent weeks, saying they were ready to make an announcement. That was when Big E came out, catching both by surprise. He said he was troubled to see the two argue and offered to manage them. That was when Woods accused Big E of not being there for him, saying he chose things like a desk job and his girlfriend over them. After Big E reminded them that he broke his neck, Kingston said people like Steve Austin and Kurt Angle broke their necks, but they came back while Big E didn’t even need surgery for his injury.

Woods told Big E to stop teasing people and admit that he’ll never be cleared from his neck injury, then told him to leave the ring and get back to the desk where he belongs, saying they’d call him if they needed him. Big E refused, saying he wanted to work things out and offered a hug. Kingston rejected the hug and Woods looked the other way. Big E, stunned, eventually left the ring to end the segment.

Kingston & Woods had been teasing a split despite their ten-year anniversary as a team coming up. On last week’s Raw, the two tore into each other verbally over past grievances, further hinting at a breakup.

Kofi Kingston hopes Big E is part of New Day’s 10th anniversary celebration

Kofi Kingston hopes Big E will be able to make an appearance during The New Day’s 10-year anniversary celebration.

While there are not many details yet, WWE announced earlier this month that there will be a celebration for New Day’s 10th anniversary on an upcoming episode of Raw. The group debuted in 2014 but is currently going through a breakup angle with Woods on the verge of turning against Kingston.

Big E has not been able to wrestle since suffering a broken neck in 2022. His in-ring future remains in doubt, but he has worked for WWE in other roles including as a panelist for PLE pre-shows and post-shows. Kingston told the New York Post that he hopes Big E will be available to make an appearance when their anniversary celebration happens.

“I don’t think that we can have a New Day celebration without Big E there. It wouldn’t feel right. It wouldn’t taste right, you know? So I’m hoping he’s available,” Kingston said. “But like I said, man, he’s busy doing a lot of things out there. I don’t know what his schedule is gonna look like, but hopefully he will be there. It would feel incomplete if he was not involved in The New Day 10-year anniversary in some way.

“He had so much to do with the foundations of The New Day and what people think of when they think of The New Day. There’s still people to this day that when they see us, you know, like, ‘Hey, New Day.’ They put their hand on their head. They put their hand on their hip as they twirl their hips, just like he did, you know? So, yeah, yeah, I would be willing to bet he’s going to be a part of it in some way, shape or form.”

Kingston said the key to New Day’s longevity has been the real-life connection they share. When one member of New Day succeeds, they all succeed.

“All of us, we really strive to push our brothers, to lift our brothers up,” he told the New York Post. “That’s what The New Day is all about. It’s all about brotherhood. And we really believe that to our core.”

The three New Day members recently reunited for an episode of the WWE digital series Break It Down, looking back at some of their past gear.

Kingston & Woods will team up against Otis & Akira Tozawa on Raw next Monday (November 25).

WWE to celebrate New Day’s 10th anniversary with special Raw episode

Amid the group’s ongoing breakup, WWE is planning to celebrate 10 years of The New Day.

WWE will be celebrating New Day’s 10th anniversary with a special episode of Raw. The announcement was made in a post-Raw video last night, but details on when the episode will be taking place were not provided.

“Ten years as New Day, it’s time to celebrate, man. You guys are one of the most decorated tag teams in WWE history. Because of that, if it’s cool with you guys, I actually wanted to dedicate a special episode of Raw to celebrating you,” Raw general manager Adam Pearce told Kofi Kingston.

Kingston agreed that it was a good idea and said he thought this celebration could help fix the “rough patch” that he and Xavier Woods are going through. Pearce said he would start making arrangements for the episode.

Woods was not present for the segment with Pearce and Kingston. Pearce said he had wanted to talk to both of them and didn’t want to assume anything, but Kingston thought Woods would be fine with the celebration.

A split within New Day has been brewing on WWE television with Woods growing insecure about his place in the team and his lack of success as a singles wrestler.

On Raw last night, New Day lost to The War Raiders after Woods tagged himself into the match while Kingston was closing in on a victory.

New Day debuted as a faction in November 2014. Whether Big E will be involved in their anniversary celebration has not been announced. After suffering a broken neck in 2022, Big E is currently a broadcaster for WWE PLE pre-shows and post-shows. He said this September that he would be getting new scans on his neck in the next 3-6 months.
